All Elite Wrestling (AEW) has announced Chris Jericho’s first title challenger. In a post to social media, the promotion announced that Jericho will be defending his AEW Championship against Cody.
AEW has previously stressed how wins and losses will matter in their promotion. It was Jericho’s victory over Kenny Omega at Double or Nothing that saw him face off against Hangman Page to crown the inaugural AEW Champion at their recent show All Out. Conversely, Cody has had a string of singles success since the promotion’s debut. He holds victories over his brother Dustin Rhodes at Double or Nothing and earned an important, grudge match victory over Shawn Spears at All Out. This momentum has helped him secure his opportunity against Chris Jericho at AEW’s next major show, Full Gear.

Jericho recently lost the AEW Championship belt while eating at a LongHorn Steakhouse. He launched a “worldwide investigation using the top private investigators” in order to locate the missing title. Thankfully, the belt was recovered by the Tallahassee Police Department.
