Santino Marella Details Injury That Marked End Of His Wrestling Career

There are some wrestlers who go through a public retirement and get to say goodbye to the fans. However, there are many who just disappear from the public eye for a while and then call it a career. Santino Marella is one such star who never had a proper retirement ceremony and he just settled into the life after WWE. Though, according to the former WWE star himself, he is very content with his run with the company.

The former US champion recently had an interview with The A2theK Wrestling Show. Among other things he was asked what led to his retirement from wrestling. Marella revealed that he had a double cervical fusion surgery. Unfortunately, his neck didn’t heal as expected, leading to the end of his full time wrestling career:

“It was my neck surgery. So I had my first cervical fusion. I had a double cervical fusion right off the bat. The goal was to come back and then a few months after, they noticed that one of the screws was coming out. Then at the end, at the three-month mark, one screw had completely come out, and one had come halfway out.

So they had to go back in and take out the titanium. I think going back in the second time, kind of messed things up, cutting through the scared tissue. I just never got well enough to a point where I can come back and wrestle on a full-time basis. I can have a match here and there, but to do it properly, on a full time.”

‘It Was All Good’: Santino Marella

After not having made any TV appearances since the previous December, the Canadian Star was released from his WWE contract in May 2016. This marked the unofficial end of his full-time career in wrestling. Though Santino Marella is not bitter about how things ended. He explained that while he did try to rehab his neck for a couple years after his surgery, he is content with how his WWE career turned out to be:

“To be honest, I was kind of over it. I just wanted to come home a little bit. I opened up Battle Arts Academy in 2013. I actually retired in 2016. So, the last two years was me trying to get back in shape. Not physically, my neck and my back, to get back in shape to be able to come back and perform but it just never happened. It was all good.

I had a very full life before WWE and I’ve had a very full life after WWE. It was a great chapter. Absolutely an incredible chapter. Up until the point that I retired, it was a quarter of my life, right? It’s funny, It’s not even my most recent chapter. Next year, 2023 – Battles Arts is having its 10-year anniversary. Then the last four years I have had this new family. That’s my most recent chapter. So wrestling’s kind of a few chapters back now.”

AEW Star Says Interim Titles Are ‘Bulls**t’

AEW’s insistence on keeping the Women’s Title on Thunder Rosa despite her prolonged absence has been a matter of debate among people in recent times. Shawn Spears, for one, has made his stand on the matter very clear.

The former Pinnacle member took on his Twitter to comment on the arrangement of interim champions. He shared the belief that you should either be a full-time champion or not be a champion at all:

AEW has always had the policy of crowning an interim champion if any of the belt holders get injured or have to take time off for any reason.

The absence of the AEW Women’s Champion Thunder Rosa, however, has been a controversial affair since the start. Some female talents of the company have accused her of faking the injury to avoid dropping the title.

She has also been away from the ring the longest among all the reigning champions who have taken a break from the promotion. This is why many fans believe that Rosa should be stripped of the title.

Jamie Hayter became the new Interim Women’s Champion by defeating Toni Storm at Full Gear. AEW President Tony Khan was asked about striping Rosa of the title during the post show media scrum. He said that he will make a decision once the timeline for Thunder Rosa’s recovery becomes clearer.

What do you think about AEW’s decision to keep the women’s title on Thunder Rosa? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

Tony Khan Addresses CM Punk/Colt Cabana Debacle At Full Gear Media Scrum

Tony Khan has addressed the Colt Cabana/CM Punk debacle that led to the biggest controversy in AEW history with the All Out Brawl.

The AEW President was asked about it during the post Full Gear media scrum, and he confirmed that the Straight Edge Star never asked Colt Cabana to be removed from AEW programming:

“No. No, he never asked for that. The first time it came up, I think you asked me on a scrum call and I wasn’t looking at you face to face, it was before Death Before Dishonor, I think. He never asked me that.”

Addressing Colt Cabana’s return match against Chris Jericho, TK mentioned how he had been using him as a ROH coach and talent. So it made sense for him to challenge Jericho for the ROH title:

“I’ve been using Colt Cabana both as a coach and a wrestler in Ring of Honor. I looked at the roster and he’s a very logical challenger because, not only has he held the Ring of Honor Tag Team Championship, but he’s also somebody who has been wrestling in the 2022 Ring of Honor, is undefeated, so I thought he would be a logical challenger for Chris. It’s also a good match,”

It’s widely believed that Tony Khan decided not to re-sign Colt Cabana due to his issues with CM Punk. After the intervention from The Elite, Khan offered Cabana a position in ROH. This is believed to be one of the major causes of the animosity between the AEW EVPs and Punk, which led to the backstage fight at All Out.

Jade Cargill Praises Tony Khan: ‘He Treats Us Like Athletes’

One of the biggest differences in the culture of AEW and WWE has been the treatment of stars. While WWE has historically been known to control the life of people signed to the company, AEW under Tony Khan gives them a lot more freedom. According to Jade Cargill, this quality of the AEW President is what convinced her to join the upstart promotion in 2020, over their rivals.

The TBS champion recently appeared on The Breakfast Club. She talked about many things including her debut storyline with Shaquille O’Neal. Cargill mentioned how she was going back and forth between WWE and AEW at the time. She gravitated towards the latter once Khan proved that he was willing to listen to her and collaborate:

“I was actually going between this company and another company at the same time. So I was going back and forth. But we have an owner Tony Khan, who’s hungry. [He] owns the Jaguars.” said Jade Cargill, “He owns a soccer team Fulham in England. The man is a billionaire. I love the fact that he treats us like athletes.

He understands like we need mental health days. We need time off. We have families at home. I have a five-year-old daughter so I want to be there as much as I can for her.  That’s the reason why I chose this company over the other company. They [have] seen something in me and they don’t treat me like a number. He was willing to listen to my dream and what I wanted and said ‘okay, I believe in you, and we’re gonna make this happen.'”

Edge Explains His Plans For Retirement

It’s hard to believe that The Rated R Superstar has been back in the wrestling world for more than two years and he is already talking about riding off into the sunset for good. The former World Champion discussed his intention of hanging up his boots during WWE’s tour of Canada earlier this year in August. He explained to the crowd in Toronto after Raw that he planned on seeing them one more time and ‘in a perfect world,’ say goodbye to the fans after that.

The 49-Year-Old was recently interviewed by The Nation Network. He was asked about his announcement and why he wants to retire in Toronto. Replying to it, Edge explained that he didn’t come back to win more championships. His goal was always to tell a good story before calling it a career:

“That’s the key. The first time I was told, ‘You gotta hang it up. That’s it, you’re done.’ It was WrestleMania. I retired world champ, and that sounds Cinderella, but I just didn’t know. That made it hard to chew on all those years, but I had to accept it and move on with what life is now. [I got to] start an amazing, beautiful family and the acting thing started to kind of take [off] a little but when I had the chance to get this back. The first thing I thought is, ‘I want to retire in Toronto.'” explained Edge,

He continued: “Because again, I know the window is not open for long. But if I can do it there, I think then I’ll be able to go right. I’m good. That was the last thing to kind of check off. I didn’t come back to win 4 more championships or anything like that. I really just came back to have fun, try and help teach a new generation of talent that I never got my hands on before. I always say, I call us storytellers. [I always intended to] come back and tell hell of a story for three or four years and then ride off into the sunset.”

Nick Aldis Reveals His Reaction To Being Suspended By NWA

The public feud between Nick Aldis and NWA owner Billy Corgan has become a trending topic of discussion very fast. It all started when the former NWA champion announced on social media earlier this week that he had given his notice to the company. In response to this, the promotion suspended the heavyweight star.

Aldis recently appeared on the Not Sam Wrestling podcast. He opened up about his issues with Billy Corgan and NWA in detail. When asked how he reacted to his suspension from the organization, Nick claimed that he didn’t even know about it, until someone reached out to him:

“‘Okay’ That’s pretty much what I said ‘Okay.’ One of the wrestling media guys [reached out]. Like, ‘Can you comment on being suspended?’ I went ‘Hein? Wait, I just gave my notice.’

It’s kind of like, to me I just likened it to be like when you’re in like high school or grade school. It’s like, ‘I broke up with him.’ ‘No, I broke up with him'”

– Nick Aldis

Apart from this, Nick also detailed the issues that led to him making the decision to leave NWA. According to him, he was wearing a lot of hats in the company without being compensated for it. The former TNA star claimed that Billy Corgan also put him in an uncomfortable position by asking to intervene when Corgan had a fallout with Thunder Rosa, which wasn’t his job.

Drew McIntyre Teasing ‘Big Things’ With Bollywood Star Varun Dhawan And More

Drew McIntyre is currently in India working on an undisclosed project for Sony Sports Network and he is teasing collaborations with top Bollywood stars such as Varun Dhawan and John Abraham.

The former WWE champion has been on a tour of the country after the Crown Jewel PPV. He defeated Karrion Kross in a brutal match while battling health issues during the PLE from Saudi Arabia.

McIntyre has been engaging with local fans throughout the trip. On the very first day he tweeted about Surya Kumar Yadav, who has been the explosive face of India’s campaign in the ongoing T20 Cricket World Cup.

Drew McIntyre In India

Drew McIntyre and Varun Dhawan

WWE or Sony have not revealed the true purpose behind Drew McIntyre’s India visit. The Scottish Warrior, however, has been teasing collaborations with some top names from Bollywood.

The WWE star recently posted a photo with action hero John Abraham. He teased the Indian fans with an upcoming surprise, claiming that there are some ‘big things coming.’

Drew then shared another picture with one of the rising faces of Bollywood in India in Varun Dhawan. McIntyre touted Dhawan as a big fan of the business and interestingly mentioned the possibility of a future WWE event in India:

Varun Dhawan Loves WWE

Varun Dhawan has been pretty open about his love for pro wrestling and he had several interactions with none other than The Rock himself.

Their most famous interaction came back in 2016 when Dhawan mimicked The Great One during an appearance on Comedy Nights With Kapil.

The People’s champion had actually responded to this impression and praised the Bollywood star for it. The two fitness freaks also recently exchanged tweets over the release of Black Adam.

WWE has collaborated with many international stars from different streams who share a passion for the business in the past. People such as Bad Bunny and Logan Paul are some of the most recent additions to this list.

If their next target is to increase exposure in India then Varun Dhawan is the perfect name to bring on board and maybe even get involved in some future storylines.

Triple H Has ‘An Idea’ On Who Would End Roman Reigns’ Title Run (Report)

Roman Reigns is on a historic run as the WWE Universal Champion and he has been on the top for almost 800 days. The big question everyone has in mind at this stage of his historic reign is who will finally defeat The Tribal Chief for WWE’s top prize. It appears that Triple H finally has an answer to it.

Louis Dangoor of GiveMeSport recently tweeted about the situation. He noted that while Vince was only focused on Reigns’ run as the champion, The Game has an idea on how to conclude the unprecedented reign.

WrestleVotes Twitter account, which has broken several stories in the past added to the story of Dangoor. They claimed that there are guys that would support the idea:

“They have an idea of who is going to beat Roman. I don’t know specifically if it’s Cody. I don’t know if it’s The Rock. I don’t know if it’s Bray. But I think there’s a handful of guys that they would say ‘alright, this makes sense for future.’ But I don’t think it’s happening anytime soon, to be honest with you.”

https://twitter.com/TheLouisDangoor/status/1589274496149905408

Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre and Bray Wyatt are some of the names that fans have discussed as potential opponents who can dethrone Roman Reigns. The Rock’s name has obviously been in the mix for a while as well but a lot of people believe that instead of the 50-year-old it should be someone whose career could benefit from the win.

Who do you think should defeat Roman Reigns and become the next WWE Universal Champion? Let us know your thoughts in the comment section below.

WWE Veteran And More React To Logan Paul’s Incredible Crown Jewel Performance

While Logan Paul didn’t manage to defeat Roman Reigns and win the WWE Universal Championship at Crown Jewel, he still impressed people with his performance.

The YouTube star was challenging one of the most dominating performers in the history of the business in just his third professional wrestling match. Many predicted that the bout will be a disaster.

Paul however, managed to not only hang on with The Tribal Chief but he somehow made people believe for a while that he might actually pull off the impossible.

The end result wasn’t in the favor of the internet star but his performance managed to convert a lot of haters into a fan for Logan Paul.

A number of wrestling and non-wrestling personalities reacted to his incredible performance after the Crown Jewel PPV ended.

These names include people such as former IWGP world champion Will Ospreay and wrestling veteran Sean Waltman. You can check out some of the top reactions to Logan Paul’s performance below:

Roman Reigns lived to fight another day with the help from The Bloodline at Crown Jewel. With Survivor Series being headlined by the WarGames matches, it’s possible that we might not see him defending his title at the show.

Logan Paul on the other hand, could be brought back by the company sooner rather than later after his incredible performance at the show in Saudi Arabia.

Bobby Lashley Explains Attack On Brock Lesnar After Crown Jewel Match

Bobby Lashley went into the match against Brock Lesnar at Crown Jewel as a babyface but things changed at the show. The All Mighty attacked The Beast Incarnate after a controversial finish to the match, leaving fans surprised. It appears that even Lashley himself is not sure why he did it.

Vic Joseph tried to get some answers from Lashley after the bout in a digital exclusive interview. He asked about the attack on the former Universal Champion. Replying to it, Bobby explained that it was the match he was supposed to win and he doesn’t know what he will do now:

“Why did I attack him? Cause I was ready to go to war. I was ready to die out there. There is not a tomorrow for me. There is not a day after tomorrow. There is a now.” said Bobby Lashley, “That was the biggest challenge that I had, was beating Brock. That’s what people had been talking about for years and I went out there and failed.

That’s what you wanna hear? That’s what you want me to tell you? I failed. That’s what happened, I failed. So back to the drawing board, or what? Quit? Give up? What do I do? That was the task. That was the match that I was supposed to win. And then now what?”

The ending of the bout suggests that we haven’t seen the last of Bobby Lashley vs Brock Lesnar. Though if the post-match interview is any indication, we might see the roles being reversed when these two go up against each other the next time.

Logan Paul Teases Major Appearance For Crown Jewel

Logan Paul is all set to challenge Roman Reigns for the WWE Universal Championship at Crown Jewel on November 5. Though he realizes that The Tribal Chief won’t be the only problem he’d be dealing with at the show. The rest of The Bloodline will also be there to hinder his momentum. Logan will need any help he can to overcome the number’s game and he is teasing a very interesting solution to even the odds.

The YouTube star recently had a 1-on-1 interview with Ryan Satin. Among other things, he was asked about his brother and boxing star Jake Paul possibly crossing over into WWE someday. Replying to it, Logan claimed that it’s inevitable. Furthermore, he teased this crossover for the upcoming Saudi event, saying that he’s going to need his own bloodline to combat the bloodline of his opponent:

“Truthfully, I think it’s inevitable. I mean, I’m biased, but I think what we’re doing is incredibly exciting, at least for me personally. It is incredibly exciting. I often try to separate me as the entertainer and me as a consumer.” said Logan Paul, “If I were watching two brothers take over, and I use that word intentionally, take over two highly entertaining sports – boxing, and wrestling, in a way that has never been done before, my curiosity would be piqued.

He’s fighting Anderson Silva, one of the greatest combat sports fighters of all time, one week before I take on the Tribal Chief, the face of the WWE for the title in Saudi Arabia [at] Crown Jewel. It’s never happened before. It’s unreplicable. You can’t duplicate this. History is unfolding in front of your eyes live. People are gonna choose whether to tune in or not, and I’m urging you to tune in. Because you’re gonna want to watch this. We’re making history as we speak. I think Jake’s crossover into the WWE is inevitable. Bro, I need a bloodline. Roman got his. I got mine. Where he at?”

Darby Allin Reveals Why He Decided To Go Homeless During Early Wrestling Days

Darby Allin was one of the first unknown names that AEW helped bring the spotlight on during the company’s initial days. Only 26 years old at the time of his signing, Darby’s daredevil style of wrestling instantly attracted people and made him a star. Though despite his early success, the former TNT champion had his own struggles before being signed. Just like he does in the ring, he also made some crazy decisions in his life to improve his chance of success. This includes going homeless for a few years.

The AEW star was the most recent guest of Renee Paquette’s The Sessions podcast. During the interview, he recalled the time he went homeless during his early days of wrestling. The high-flying star explained that he wanted to give it his all:

“Yeah, that’s when I moved from Seattle to Atlanta. Because Seattle was the black hole of wrestling. There was no shows at the time. This was before Defy and everything, you couldn’t wrestle in the state. The commission wouldn’t let you have pro wrestling shows in the state. So we’d always have to go to Vancouver, Canada, or Oregon or something like that. I was like ‘I gotta do something. I gotta get out of here.’

I just didn’t have a comfort zone. I feel like a lot of people are like, ‘Oh, I really want this to work out,’ But they don’t put everything into it. I wanted to look at myself in the mirror and be like, ‘Yo, you dedicated everything in this so you have no fucking excuse if you don’t make it.'”

‘Why The Hell Does It Smell Like Salmon?’: Darby Allin

Sting and Darby Allin

Darby Allin later detailed the struggles he had to go through during his homeless days. He recalled living in his car and cooking food in the bathroom of a gym:

“When you don’t have the comfortability to sit down on the couch and be lazy and watch episodes of whatever. When you’re living in your car. Especially in Georgia, it was so hot in the summer. I would have to have like a strict bedtime so I got decent sleep before. Then I parked in this hotel parking garage.

It was connected to an Anytime Fitness and I got the Anytime fitness membership. Then I was just like, cooking all my food there at the George Foreman grill in the bathroom at like one in the morning. There would always [be] like one random guy that’s in there like ‘Why the hell does it smell like salmon in this fucking gym?’ Then I’d walk out like I didn’t know what he’s talking about. But it was fun.”

– Scott Steiner

‘It Made Sense’: Scott Steiner

Scott Steiner was then asked about his infamous promo and if he knew it would become as popular as it did. Replying to it, the former WWE star admitted that he didn’t think it’s gonna last for as long as it has:

– Scott Steiner

What Triple H Told Candice LeRae About Her Pregnancy

Wrestling is a physical sport and a lot of things can force plans to be changed at the last minute. One such thing that has led to planned angles being altered a number of times is the pregnancy of female stars. Candice LeRae however, did not want WWE officials to be put in an awkward position with her pregnancy. So she decided to tell them about her plans in advance.

The former NXT star recently appeared on Out of Character podcast. Speaking about the birth of her baby, she mentioned that she had a meeting with Triple H before taking time off. LeRae revealed what The Game told her about it:

“So earlier in the year, Johnny and I had sat down with DX of all people and discussed the fact that we wanted to have a baby and trying to kind of figure out when the right time was. Of course, they’re like, very supportive. Obviously, we don’t have to let them know but we wanted to kind of keep them in the loop because I felt like I owed it to everybody.

I didn’t want to be put in a position or them be put in a position where we’re all just kind of like, ‘Oh, whoops, now what do we do?’ They were so [supportive]. Hunter even said to me. He said, ‘There’s never gonna be a right time. So you guys got to do what’s best for you guys. And we’ll work around it,’ Essentially.”

‘Are We Planning Our Future With DX?’: Candice LeRae

The meeting with Triple H and Shawn Michaels was also a funny experience for Candice LeRae. Halfway through it, she realized that she was discussing her future with DX:

“We were sitting in there and we’re waiting for Hunter to come in. That’s all I thought. It was like ‘Okay, Johnny and I are here and like waiting for Hunter to come in.’ Then Shawn Michaels just walked in and sat down at the table with his food. I was like, ‘Oh okay, that’s fine. Shawn too.’

Halfway through the conversation, the child in me, it was all ‘Are we planning our future and our children with DX right now? Does that even make sense in any universe?’ They were very supportive where it was like we were telling our parents ‘Yeah, we want to have a baby.’ They were just supportive and awesome about it.”

AEW Has Released Name Involved In All Out Brawl (Report)

It appears that AEW is finally starting to make some decisions after the long investigation into the backstage brawl that took place after All Out last month.

Dave Meltzer on the latest Wrestling Observer Radio confirmed on Wednesday that Ace Steel has officially been released from his contract:

“So he was officially released yesterday, so I guess that is the first bit of news out of that whole situation in weeks. There’s a lot of other stuff going on.”

Ace Steel joined AEW earlier this year and he worked as a producer backstage. He also made an on-screen appearance before All Out where he encouraged CM Punk to answer the open challenge issued by Jon Moxley.

The now former AEW talent was part of the backstage brawl that took place after the All Out media scrum on September 5.

CM Punk first called out AEW EVPs during his post-media scrum. He was confronted by The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega once he reached his locker room.

Steel who was on Punk’s side joined in the physical confrontation and it was reported that he bit Kenny Omega at one point.

AEW suspended everyone involved in the brawl. The company has not made any public comments about the incident and has been criticised for their silence over the matter.

Bobby Lashley Explains When He Plans to Retire

Bobby Lashley is at the top of his game right now. The All Mighty seems to only get better with every passing year and he has no immediate plans to retire. Though the former WWE Champion also does not want to be one of those people who keep competing way past their prime.

The WWE star recently has an interview with Sam Roberts on NotSam Wrestling. When asked if he has any plans for retirement, Lashley mentioned how there are many fighters in combat sports that still compete when they shouldn’t. Per the former US Champion, he doesn’t want to become one of them:

“My biggest thing was people that are around me, people that I feel that are a little closer to me. I want them to be honest with me and be real with me. You know how you see fighters that are like, they do that one last fight that they shouldn’t have done.

They could have had sparring partners, they could have had coaches or somebody saying ‘Let’s tap out, let’s go and do something else. Let’s move to that next stage of life.’ I told the people around me. I said, ‘If you feel that for me, I’m okay with telling me.'”

‘I’m Not Doing It For The Money’: Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley

Bobby Lashley then explained that he continues to wrestle because it’s his passion. If there ever comes a time when he starts feeling slower, he’d call it a career:

“I’m not doing it for the money right now. Over the years I’ve compiled a really nice real estate portfolio and different things like that. So that I’ve taken care of my kids. Right now, I’m doing [it] more [for the] legacy. I love wrestling and I have the ability to do it. I think I’m showing people something different. I’m that guy. That guy [in] the morning workouts. I’m that guy that trains hard. I’m okay with being a role model. I’m okay with all these different things.

So I want to stay in the business as long as I can for that reason. But if there ever comes a time where I am running a little bit slower, I am moving a little slower, I take a bump and it’s like, ‘Oh no, this hurts coming back up.’ You’re gonna get that anyway. But if it ever gets to that point where I feel like I’m slowing down then let’s stop.”

Saraya On Negative Reaction To Controversial Dynamite Promo: ‘It’s Like I Set Their Family On Fire’

Saraya made her AEW debut during the September 21 episode of Dynamite and received a hero’s welcome. Though her arrival in the company wasn’t free of controversy. A lot of people questioned her decision to leave WWE behind despite them keeping her employed after her injury. The first promo she cut after joining the company also attracted negative reaction.

The newest AEW star addressed all this during her appearance on Talk Is Jericho. She first explained that it was WWE that let her go. According to her, fans should be happy that she found another place to continue her career:

“They call us traitors and stuff like that. But I’m like, ‘Well, they didn’t renew my contract. I don’t know what to tell you.’ It’s not as if I just left the company.

We left on good terms and it is what it is. But, I feel like people should be happy that there’s other companies out there that are just as big and getting bigger.” said Saraya, “There’s so many different places that all your favorites could potentially go and build a career. You’re not having to just focus on one company anymore. I just feel like that’s wonderful.”

‘You Guys Need To Chill’ : Saraya

Saraya then addressed her controversial promo from the September 28 Dynamite. The former champion had claimed during the show that it was good to finally have a boss that listened to her. This remark attracted negative fan reaction with people accusing her of not being grateful for the opportunities in WWE. Speaking about the promo and the fallout, the wrestling veteran explained that it was about how the creative process in WWE often led to frustration:

“Then they were mad at me because I said a boss that listens to me about the division. Because Hunter listened to me, he always did. He was always wonderful. That’s why I liked working with him in NXT. He’s the one that helped me when I first got to the main roster, but it can get a little frustrating at times being there as you know.” said Saraya, “You feel like you’re throwing ideas and stuff like that and seeing what sticks and then you end up just sitting in catering or you end up sitting at home. That’s the thing that became really frustrating.

Whereas I threw an idea at Tony, and straightaway he was like ‘Let’s give it a try. They can either like it or hate it, but we’ll give it a try.’ I really appreciate that. So I said that in a promo like, ‘Alright, A boss that listens to me.’ [It was like], Oh it’s the worst thing I ever said. It’s like I literally came over to their house and set their family on fire. It was like the worst thing ever. I was like, ‘Oh my god! you guys need to chill, it’s not that deep.'”

Saraya Reveals Which Stars Convinced Her To Join AEW

Saraya is the latest wrestling star to jump ships from WWE to AEW. While the new WWE regime under Triple H did try to bring her back into the company, she ultimately made the decision to join the rival promotion. According to the female star, there were two AEW stars who convinced her to join the organization.

The former Divas Champion recently appeared on Talk Is Jericho. Discussing how her AEW deal came together, Saraya revealed that it was the duo of Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley that convinced her for the move:

“People ask all the time, they’re like, so how did that come about and stuff like that. I was like, you know what? It’s a mixture between Jericho and Mox. They were like calling me about it. They were so awesome. They said you’re just gonna be happy.”

‘I Was Really Excited To Try Something New’: Saraya

Saraya

Saraya later explained the reasoning behind her call to join Tony Khan’s promotion instead of going back to WWE. According to the former champion, she is really excited to try something new at this point in her career:

“It was like a mixture. I was like, ‘What do I do? Do I do WWE? Or do I go to AEW?’ And I was like ‘I just feel like I’m at the stage in my life where I’ve done so much with WWE and I’m thankful for that. But AEW is this company where there’s so much behind the scenes that people don’t see.’ I feel like there’s like this camaraderie, if that’s the right word. It is so relaxed back there too.

I was just really excited to try something so new and then like with a division that’s completely new too. As much as I love the girls, like I saw Charlotte literally minutes before I got here and I was like, ‘I miss you ladies,’ but I’m so excited to be in such a fresh [environment].”

Chris Jericho Addresses Backstage Drama In AEW

The behind-the-scene tensions in AEW have been a major topic of discussion recently. Every time it seems like things have settled down, a new report of heat between stars or a new altercation comes out, leading to more speculation. Though according to Chris Jericho, despite all this, the positivity within the company is off the charts.

Y2J recently had an interview with Comicbook.com. He first commented on the reports of him stepping up as a locker room leader in the past few months. He explained that it’s huge because when they started the company, they weren’t sure about having even a single anniversary. Speaking about the time before her release, Kai mentioned how she wrestled a number of dark matches on the main roster towards the end of last year:

The dark matches led many to believe that Dakota Kai’s main roster call up was imminent. Turns out, the former NXT star thought this too. According to the female star, she was actually told she would be called up during the 2021 Draft:

“I was told that. I was told I was gonna be in the Draft. So it’s funny now that I look back at it. It’s all good. We can laugh at it. But I was sitting at home during the Draft, and I got told that it was going to happen

And I’m like, ‘Okay, cool. I wonder if they’re gonna tell me. I’ll just…I’ll just watch TV. I’ll watch the show and see what happens.’ Then after the weekend is done and, I didn’t hear anything I was like, ‘oh, maybe they changed their mind. I don’t know.’ Then I kind of just continued to do NXT.”

MJF On His Current Relationship With Cody Rhodes

Even though he is only 26 years old, MJF is already one of the top stars of the pro wrestling world. The Salt of The Earth is one of the smartest pro wrestlers of today’s generation so he hardly ever needs to look to anyone else for advice. When he does need a second opinion on something, he turns to none other than Cody Rhodes.

The AEW star recently joined Sam Roberts on NotSam Wrestling. He talked about things such as the backstage brawl between The Elite and CM Punk at All Out and Chris Jericho’s recent comments about him.

When asked about his current relationship with Cody Rhodes, MJF claimed that they’re ‘best friends.’ Per the 26-year-old, he calls Rhodes every once in a while, when he needs a second opinion on something:

“I’ll still call him when I honestly need… rarely do I need advice – I mean, look at me. But I’ll call him because I respect the shit out of him. I’ll call him to get a second masterful opinion.”

– MJF

MJF and Cody Rhodes had been working together since the very beginning of AEW. The latter took the young star under his wing and they had a long partnership. This partnership ended when the Wrestling Devil caused Rhodes to lose a match against Chris Jericho at Full Gear 2019 and turned on the now WWE star afterward.
