AJ Styles Approaching Big Milestone As WWE Champion

AJ Styles is closing in on a significant milestone as WWE Champion.

As of this writing, Styles has been WWE Champion for 243 days. This is his second title reign, during which he’s defended the title 59 times, with only 7 defenses on television / pay-per-view since November.

Including his previous run with the title, Styles has been WWE Champion for a total of 383 days. Should he remain champion through next week, Styles will surpass WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels’ career record of 396 days.

The next milestone for Styles after surpassing Shawn Michaels’ record would be CM Punk’s 463 days as WWE Champion.

Of course, the man who was WWE Champion more days than anyone else in history is the late Bruno Sammartino, who held the title for a staggering 4,040 days (11+ years) during his illustrious career.

AJ Styles is slated to make his next title defense against Rusev at the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view event on Sunday, July 15, 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the PPG Paints Arena.

Dolph Ziggler Talks Winning Intercontinental Title Six Times, Working With Drew McIntyre

Dolph Ziggler has reflected on what he has accomplished as a member of the WWE roster.

The current WWE Intercontinental Champion recently appeared on “Chasing Glory with Lilian Garcia” to talk about various topics including what being Intercontinental Champion six times means to him.

Ziggler noted that in the past, he felt that he didn’t get these chances that other people get but after all of the achievements in his career, he has a different mindset as he is glad to get the opportunity.

“We don’t always follow up on them, but that’s part of the business and sometimes you’re not meant to be a long-term person. Every time you get something, I go, “Wow, I was just focusing on being a tag team wrestler, which I haven’t done in years and became champion. How can I make this the most memorable thing I’ve done in the last 10 years?”

Ziggler continued by stating that he would go to work and focus on it while watching different kinds of movies or studying different wrestlers from the 70s and 80s. By doing this, he looked at it and how he can make it different.

He added that Seth Rollins has done an awesome job and that it’s great to see what he’s done with that title.

Shortly after WrestleMania 34 earlier this year, the WWE decided to pair him up with former NXT Champion Drew McIntyre on television. Ziggler talked about the team and how when talents would be called up from NXT to the main roster, he would teach them and make them better.

Ziggler is doing just that with McIntyre and helping him get caught up to speed since the last time he was on the main roster.

Hopefully somewhere in a year, he punches me in the face and the arena erupts. Hopefully that will be the case, we’ll see. You never know around here. We’re not just a tag team with matching outfits, we’re just two dudes who want to be the champ and we’re watching each other’s back, so it’s a little bit of a nice twist on just tag teams.”

Ziggler also talked about the origin of his name, his time in OVW and more. You can listen to the full interview here.

Chris Jericho Reveals Vince McMahon’s Reaction To TNA Going Against WWE In 2010

Chris Jericho has reflected on the reaction of WWE Chairman Vince McMahon when he found out that TNA’s flagship show at the time in 2010, Impact, would be going head-to-head with WWE’s flagship show, Monday Night RAW.

Jericho talked about it during a recent edition of his Talk is Jericho podcast. If you recall, these shows would battle it out for ratings on Monday nights at the time starting on January 4, 2010.

“[Vince] said, ‘take me out of the equation. You can’t compete with WWE at this point.’ ‘It’s too much of a machine, it’s too much of a brand, it’s just the way it is.’ And he’s right.

You’re not gonna [beat] the WWE. You can compete, carve out your own niche, yes. But I also believe that [WWE] has now become entrenched in Americana, pop culture, and the world. It’s not gonna go anywhere.”

If you recall, this episode of Impact started a new era in TNA as Hulk Hogan made his promotional debut while Jeff Hardy made his return to the company. Also, Scott Hall, Kevin Nash, Sean Waltman, Val Venis, Mick Foley, and Ric Flair made appearances while Bobby Lashley departed.

The show was headlined by AJ Styles retaining his TNA World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Kurt Angle in the main event.

On the flip side, RAW featured the reconciliation of Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart after 12 years of bad blood due to the Montreal Screwjob. TNA’s time on Monday nights didn’t last long as they went back to Thursday nights in early March.

The head-to-head battle only last two months before TNA pulled the plug on the ‘Monday Night War’ experiment.

Post-Show Airing After WWE Extreme Rules, Kane’s Greatest WWE Returns

Extreme Rules Post-Show

WWE will hold their next pay-per-view event, Extreme Rules, on Sunday, July 15, 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the PPG Paints Arena on the WWE Network. The main event for this show has yet to be announced but it will likely be Bobby Lashley vs. Roman Reigns in a singles match.

After Extreme Rules goes off the air on the streaming service of the sports entertainment company, WWE will air a post-show at 10:30 PM EST. Here is the synopsis:

“Renee Young and Superstar guests catch up with your favorite Superstars and recap all the action from WWE Extreme Rules!”

Bobby Lashley Talks Desire To Face Brock Lesnar, Which WWE Stars Could Make It In MMA

Bobby Lashley continues to make it pretty clear that he wants to fight Brock Lesnar.

The former ECW Champion recently spoke to Boston’s 98.5 The Sports Hub to talk about various topics. In this interview, he gave some insight into his desire to fight the former WWE Universal Champion.

As for the reason, he said that it’s to finish business as there are a lot of reasons. He noted that in order to display his wrestling ability, he wanted to be on a big stage and the WWE is just that.

He brought up the fact that he is on the RAW brand now and Lesnar is the champion of that brand.

“I’ve been training and training and ever since I started the business everyone’s kinda compared Brock and I so I think the match needs to happen at some point in time.”

Lashley also talked about which WWE star could make the transition into MMA. He noted that believes everybody has an opportunity to make the jump because they don’t necessarily have a wrestling background or boxing or anything like that they’ve just picked it up and have been training for years.

He pointed out Chad Gable as he is an Olympian and due to him having a great work ethic. He added that Authors of Pain could make the jump due to one being a Kickboxing World Champion and one guy’s a multiple-time wrestling champion.

“As far as other guys on the main roster, I think a lot of guys have the opportunity to do it. Since I’ve been in the ring with these guys, some of these guys are just tough beyond what people actually know of. I mean Seth Rollins, Samoa Joe. I think Samoa Joe would definitely be able to do it. Samoa Joe is great at kickboxing, he’s super aggressive — he’s tough. Shelton Benjamin, I think there’s a handful of guys who could possibly do it.”

Kane Responds To Criticism For Wrestling While Running For Mayor

Not everyone is excited to see Kane back on WWE television.

Kane made his return on last week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Ontario, CA at the Citizens Business Bank Arena after Daniel Bryan faced off with Luke Harper in the main event. Once Erick Rowan attacked Bryan to cause the DQ, Kane walked down to the ring to make the save.

This led to it being announced that Bryan and Kane will challenge Harper and Rowan for the SmackDown Tag Team Titles at Extreme Rules.

It’s believed that Kane will be on WWE television at the least through Extreme Rules. Glenn Jacobs (better known as Kane) has been declared the winner of the Knox County primary for mayor by a narrow margin. Later this year, citizens of the country will decide by voting who they want to win the mayoral race.

Democratic candidate Linda Haney has criticized Kane for returning to wrestling because she felt that it was not a good strategy in hopes to become Mayor.

“I was really stunned to find out he was still pursuing it,” Haney stated, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. “I thought it was in the past. I thought in this crucial time he’d want to be here and be with the people. Being an entertainer doesn’t make you a political figure. It may get you some votes, but I believe people want someone with common sense and who is [ready to lead].”

This has led to Kane firing back with his own statement that was sent to Newsweek as he has defended his decision to resume his career with the sports entertainment company.

“After I am elected Mayor, I’ll be Mayor,” said Jacobs. “I’m sure some people will say that (I’m not focused) and some others will say that’s the coolest thing ever. Again, you can’t make everyone happy. You just do what you can and that’s it… you’re always going to catch criticism no matter what you do.”

Kane added that he may still do a few special things as he has done it or 23 years now and have quite a history. He noted that it will always be part of his life and that he is taking a run at being mayor seriously.

What are your thoughts on Kane being back on WWE TV? Sound off in the comment section.

Reason Why The Miz Is Missing WWE Extreme Rules

The Miz will in fact not be wrestling at the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view event.

The former WWE Champion is slated to miss the next PPV event for the sports entertainment company later this month due to him participating in the MLB All-Star Legends & Celebrity Softball game that day at Nationals Park in Washington, DC.

The following day, which is a Monday, the MLB will present their Home Run Derby that will air on ESPN. He sent out the following tweet to hype his appearance.

The Extreme Rules pay-per-view event takes place on Sunday, July 15, 2018 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the PPG Paints Arena and will air on the WWE Network. The SmackDown Live star sent out the following on Twitter about missing this event.

Elias Talks Working With The Undertaker At MSG, Praises Seth Rollins

Elias has a big weekend ahead of him.

WWE is scheduled to hold a live event at Madison Square Garden in New York City this Saturday night (July 7th, 2018). Elias spoke with The New York Post to promote the WWE live event and to talk about various topics.

At this event, The Undertaker will return to in-ring action when he teams up with Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman to take on Elias, Baron Corbin, and Kevin Owens in a six-man tag team match. In this interview, Elias spoke about the match.

“I said, “That is the perfect matchup.” I would have preferred if it was one-on-one, but that would probably happen somewhere down the line. This will be the first-ever meeting of The Deadman and The Living Truth.”

Elias also spoke about the level that Seth Rollins is working at right now as the two stars wrestled for the Intercontinental Title last month at the Money in the Bank pay-per-view event.

Elias stated that Rollins has had a very successful career so far, but he’s probably at his best right now.

“The crowd is taking to him in a way almost unlike they have his entire career, which is still crazy because they have loved him for such a long time.”

CM Punk vs. Chris Amann Lawsuit To Be Covered On WWE Network

Some more insight into Something Else to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard covering CM Punk on the WWE Network has surfaced.

We noted earlier on the site that the podcast would feature Bruce Prichard and Conrad Thompson discussing the early WWE career of CM Punk from the period of 2006 through to 2008. This will be the season finale of the show.

During a recent interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, Thompson confirmed that the episode will talk about the recent lawsuit that was brought forward against CM Punk and Colt Cabana from WWE’s Dr. Chris Amann, which saw the former WWE stars win.

“It’s either the end of season one or the grand finale, I guess we’ll see, but we’re going out with a bang,” said co-host Conrad Thompson. “We’re going to do something that a lot of people are not expecting us to do, and that is talk about CM Punk.”

Thompson mentioned that although Prichard wasn’t in the company during the lawsuit and didn’t have any insight into about it, he understands how the WWE handles these situations and how WWE Chairman Vince McMahon approaches these things.

He did say that they want to examine a lot of the rumor and innuendo surrounding Punk’s release and give an inside look into the mind of McMahon.

“We’ll also talk about Bruce’s real-life experiences with CM Punk, and cover all of Punk’s run while Bruce was there. We’ll also cover those who were against Punk in the back, as it has been pretty evident that some people were big advocates and others who weren’t.”

Mark Cuban Says NJPW Has Best Pro Wrestling In The World

Mark Cuban is known to speak his mind and did just that when talking about New Japan Pro Wrestling.

The AXS TV CEO recently spoke with Sports Illustrated’s Extra Mustard to talk about various topics. In this interview, Cuban stated that he believes NJPW is the best promotion in the world right now.

Cub brought up how they are looking for great content to use on the network and that NJPW is the best pro wrestling in the world. He bragged about how the network has a great track record of acquiring top international content in sports and entertainment and adapting it for the U.S. market.

The reason he believes NJPW is the best promotion is due to their long-term storytelling that has a payoff.

The tension between Kenny Omega and Cody has been building on AXS TV since June of 2017 when Cody tried to ‘throw in the towel’ during Kenny’s title shot with Okada. Add in the iconic voice and storytelling of wrestling Hall of Famer Jim Ross and MMA champ Josh Barnett for July 7, and you have must-see TV.”

Back in May, it was officially announced that New Japan Pro Wrestling had hired a new President, Harold Meij. He will be the first NJPW President who is not Japanese.

Bushiroad President (parent owner of NJPW) Takaaki Kidani made the decision to bring him into the promotion and replace Katsuhiko Harada.

Cuban spoke about this hiring and made it clear that the network is excited by the hire because Meij has told them that this goal is to increase the amount of English content and increasing the international fanbase offers many opportunities for them to work together.

“We look forward to hearing his long-term strategy and having AXS TV play a major role in New Japan’s U.S. expansion efforts.”

Goldberg Talks Possible Opponents For WWE Return, If Undertaker Should Retire

Goldberg has two names in mind that he would want to wrestle if he came back for another run in the WWE.

The WWE Hall of Famer recently spoke with Digital Spy to talk about various topics. Goldberg noted in this interview that he would like to work with Roman Reigns or The Undertaker if he did return to the sports entertainment company.

He noted that the reason he has those two names on his list is for two different reasons but would be honored to get in the ring with either one of them. He pointed out that he still owes Brock Lesnar a match.

Goldberg was also asked about if The Undertaker should retire, which he responded by stating that it’s not his decision and that at the end of the day, it’s up to the person lacing those boots up.

“And one person’s opinion doesn’t mean that things are right or wrong. I believe that in Mark’s head, Mark knows when to call it quits. He’ll do it when he wants to, and nobody can tell him otherwise, except for Vince, maybe. You know, they can sit down and have a man-to-man, and when it gets to the point where the performance isn’t there, or you’re enduring too much pain [where] you have to prepare too many different ways to get into the match, then it’s time to do it.”

What are your thoughts on Goldberg’s comments? Sound off in the comment section.

The Background

His first stint with the WWE was between 2003 and 2004 where he became a one-time World Heavyweight Champion in the latter.

After twelve years away from the company, he returned to WWE in 2016 and headlined Survivor Series against Lesnar, and Fastlane against Kevin Owens where he won the WWE Universal Championship. He lost the title to Lesnar at WrestleMania 33 last year in Orlando, Florida. He was last seen on WWE television the night after Mania on Raw.

He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame earlier this year during WrestleMania 34 weekend.

The Ascension End Incredible Losing Streak

The extended losing streak for The Ascension has come to an end.

A user on Reddit brought up the fact that Konnor and Viktor finally ended a two-year losing streak in the WWE as they beat former SmackDown Tag Team Champions Heath Slater and Rhyno in a tag team match as part of the Main Event taping this past Monday night in Sioux Falls, SD at the Denny Sanford Premier Center.

The losing streak for the former NXT Tag Team Champions goes back to February 8, 2016. The Ascension was called up to the main roster back in 2014 after a dominant and successful run in NXT.

What are your thoughts on this team breaking the losing streak? Sound off in the comment section.

Season Finale Of Something Else To Wrestle To Cover CM Punk’s Time In WWE

CM Punk will be discussed on the season finale of Something Else To Wrestle on the WWE Network.

WWE Network News is reporting that Bruce Prichard and Conrad Thompson will be discussing the early WWE career of CM Punk. The timeline of this podcast will be the period of 2006 through to 2008. During this time, it featured his run in ECW and winning the World Title.

Since he departed from the WWE in 2014 after the Royal Rumble PPV (pay-per-view) event, fans have wanted to see Punk compete in the squared circle again. Instead, he took his talents to the world famous Octagon in the UFC.

The former WWE Champion fought Mike Jackson in a welterweight bout at the UFC 225 pay-per-view event on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

As seen in the fight, Jackson dominated it and Punk showed a ton of heart but was winded after the first round. Jackson was able to pick up the unanimous decision win.

He lost in his MMA debut against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September of 2016 by first round submission.

Awesome Kong Talks Not Liking Her Ring Name At First, Japan Crowd Reactions

Awesome Kong has not always liked her ring name and has decided to talk about it.

Kong, also known as Kia Stevens, has made a transition from wrestling to an actress as she is featured on the Netflix series “GLOW.” In a recent interview with The Ringer, Kong reflected on why she didn’t like her ring name at first.

She noted that once she went to Japan, picking her name wasn’t an option as she was training in Santa Monica at the New Japan dojo where Shinsuke Nakamura and other people called her Kong.

“I didn’t know if he was just unaware of the connotation that Kong would have for a black person, because he was from Japan, but I got really upset. Then they had to explain to me that they’d recently had a press conference, and that the company that was bringing me over had named me Kong.”

She would go onto say that she went home and considered what she got herself into and if she should go back. She thought about the meaning of N.W.A once she heard a song by the rap group.

This is when she decided that she would make the name her own that way when someone hears it they know what it’s all about.

“Anyone who sees Amazing or Awesome Kong respects that name first. I feel that that’s a goal that my people should always work towards, not a meaning of ridicule or put-down, but always respect. I owned it, and I own it today.”

Staying with her time in Japan, she mentioned how working in front of those crowds made her seem extremely serious as they take pro wrestling serious.

She pointed out how they report wrestling in the newspapers as if they were reporting on baseball and really buy into the magic of wrestling.

“There were people who, when they found out I was a wrestler, they didn’t know anything about wrestling. So when they heard my name, they were like, ‘Oh my god, girl, why would you let them name you that?’ Then I had to explain it to them—that if you’re a fan of wrestling and you hear the name Amazing or Awesome Kong, you sit up straighter.”

Details On Dr. Shelby’s Future With WWE

WWE is keeping their options open when it comes to Dr. Shelby.

As seen on this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW in Sioux Falls, SD at the Denny Sanford Premier Center on the USA Network, Dr. Shelby made his return to WWE TV as he tried to help Sasha Banks and Bayley work out their issues with one another by being their counselor.

He became popular with WWE fans him from his work with Team Hell No several years ago. WWE filed for the trademark for “Dr. Shelby” on June 29th. Here is the description:

“Entertainment services in the nature of professional wrestling; providing information on the internet in the nature of professional wrestling”

Thus, this has led to speculation that the sports entertainment company might be keeping him around for a while with this trademark filing. Time will tell when we will see him back on the flagship show of the WWE.
