The Miz Reveals His Big Plans Once WWE SmackDown Live Moves To Fox

The Miz has some big plans for when WWE moves SmackDown Live to Fox.

The former WWE Champion recently appeared on Bust Open Radio on Sirius XM to speak with Dave LaGreca and WWE Hall of Famer Mark Henry about various topics.

During the interview, The Miz gave his take on WWE moving SmackDown Live to Fox in October of 2019.

“Let’s put it this way, I get traded from RAW to SmackDown and as soon as I get traded to SmackDown all of a sudden, FOX puts up a billion dollars,” Miz said (transcript courtesy of Wrestling Inc). “So I want to motivate and dedicate myself to where when we are ready to move from USA to FOX in 2019, I want to be the face of that show, of this show. And so that is my goal. I want to be in the middle of every poster. I want to have merch that literally everybody wants to buy, that everybody wants to see. Sometimes I look at my merch, well I haven’t had merch in literally a year and when I get merch I’m literally looking at it going, ‘I wouldn’t wear this.’ So I want merch that people look at and go, ‘I want to buy that, I want to wear that. That is something that is amazing and incredible.’

Miz continued by stating, “Like I want to basically be the superstar I believe I can be and I want my talents to be utilized in a way that I can succeed and I really am going to motivate myself and dedicate myself to be the face of the franchise when the FOX merger happens because moving to FOX, a network show, this show will be bigger. It’ll no longer the quote unquote the B show like everyone always says it is. It will be the A show and more people will watch it. So I’ll be interested to see what happens from a creative standpoint, from a marketing standpoint, [and] from a WWE superstar standpoint.”

The Background

The biggest match of The Miz’s career was when defeated John Cena for the WWE Championship back at WrestleMania 27 in 2011 in the main event. This marked the only time that WWE had booked The Miz in the main event of the biggest event of the year for the sports entertainment company.

Since then, Miz has been booked as an upper mid card talent and primarily in the hunt for the Intercontinental Title.

It’s been well documented that WWE has agreed to make Fox the new home of the blue brand next year. NBC Universal declined to agree to the deal that WWE proposed to keep SmackDown Live on the USA Network.

It’s been reported that the TV network wants to keep WWE’s flagship show, Monday Night RAW, and are willing to pay them big money in order for that to happen.

Video: CM Punk And Colt Cabana Comment On Winning Case Against WWE Doctor

The big news on Tuesday was about the lawsuit that pitted CM Punk and Colt Cabana against WWE doctor Chris Amann.

The case had been heard by a jury since last Wednesday in Illinois, just outside of Chicago.

The WWE doctor brought the lawsuit forward due to the comments Punk made during an appearance on Cabana’s “Art of Wrestling” podcast from November of 2014 about Amann and Punk not receiving proper treatment of a “lump” on his backside while in the WWE.

The jury ruled that they are in favor of Punk and Cabana on all counts filed by Amann. Thus, neither Punk or Cabana will have to pay anything. The WWE doctor had been seeking about $4 million for defamation among other things.

Nick Hausman of WrestleZone, who has provided some great coverage of this case, caught up with Punk and Cabana after they were let out of the courtroom to get a brief interview about winning the case.

Punk lost in his MMA debut against Mickey Gall at UFC 203 in September of 2016 by first round submission. He is set to fight Mike Jackson in a welterweight bout at the upcoming UFC 225 pay-per-view event on Saturday, June 9, 2018, at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois.

Shawn Michaels Open To Wrestling Again

Shawn Michaels is no longer ruling out a potential return to the ring for one more match.

The WWE Hall of Famer recently spoke with Sky Sports to promote the upcoming WWE UK Tournament. During the interview, he was asked about possibly wrestling one more match.

He retired from pro wrestling following his match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 26 in 2010.

Despite being against the possibility in previous years, Michael is now open to the idea but has some certain expectations in order for it to happen.

“It would have to be done the right way and just for one match rather than something that ran for longer. It could be possible but people would have to accept they wouldn’t be getting the Showstopper, Mr WrestleMania, and that I’m 52 years old now.

I’ve been retired for eight years now and when it got to the five-year mark I thought people would start asking me but they just kind of stopped.  I think it’s one of those that you would never say never about and if it was just for a one-off then it’s something that I would take a look at.”

Michaels was then asked about who he would like to wrestle if he did decide to work one more match. Although there are many talents of today he’d like to work with, his top two candidates would be Daniel Bryan or AJ Styles.

Michaels did note that it would be a one-off match and most likely a tag team match with Triple H if he decided to wrestle again.

“If it was the Shawn Michaels of 10 years ago I would love to have gotten in the ring with so many of the guys that are competing today,” he said. “AJ Styles and Daniel Bryan would be good, and then there’s the guys in NXT too. Someone like a Johnny Gargano would be fantastic.

“But for a one-off match now, I’d need it to be a tag-team match where Hunter (Triple H) and I can just do a few crotch chops and have some fun.”

The WWE Hall of Famer has had a storied career in the professional industry and will go down as one of the greatest wrestlers of all time.

He has held every big championship that WWE has to offer and had some classic matches as well as a feud with the biggest names in pro wrestling. Those names would include The Undertaker, Steve Austin, Triple H, and Ric Flair.

What are your thoughts on Michaels potentially wrestling one more match?

Madison Square Garden Reportedly Unhappy With The WWE

It’s been well documented that there has been a long-standing relationship between Madison Square Garden and the WWE that goes back decades.

There have been rumors of AAA running an event at the world-famous arena held in New York City later this year. For those who may not know, the sports entertainment company has had a lock on the building for many decades in terms of wrestling events.

However, things might be changing as it was reported by Mike Johnson of PWinsider that the historic arena is not happy with the WWE right now due to the fact that the WWE has been holding TV and pay-per-view events at the nearby Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

It was noted in the report that the tipping point appears to have been once WWE announced that all of the Wrestlemania 35 week events in 2019 would be held at the Barclays Center. Those events include the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony, NXT Takeover, RAW, and SmackDown Live.

According to the report, MSG has sent feelers out to different groups and they are more open than ever to booking non-WWE events in the arena. Thus, the reason that AAA was able to get a hold on the arena.

For years now, WWE has only held live events twice per year at MSG and it’s been reported in the past that the reason WWE runs the Barclays Center instead of MSG for bigger events is due to the cost of holding an event at MSG as it’s cheaper to hold it at Barclays Center.

Report: WWE Signs Another Female Independent Wrestler

Another young exciting wrestler has signed with the WWE.

Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that the current reigning Progress Women’s Champion Jinny has signed a UK contract with the sports entertainment company.

It was noted that her contract is similar to that of Toni Storm, who has also reportedly signed a deal with WWE. It’s been rumored in the past that WWE had their sights set on Jinny as well as other top UK wrestlers for their brand.

Jinny does have a past with the WWE that dates back to March of last year. She actually worked a match against Storm during a WrestleMania Axxess event in Orlando, Florida.

It should be noted that the WWE is advertising Jinny for the upcoming WWE United Kingdom tournament show where she will compete in a Fatal 4-way match against Storm, WXW star Killer Kelly and Scotland’s Isla Dawn this month.

The winner of this match will have the opportunity to take on  NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler on Tuesday, June 19th.

In case you missed it, NXT Superstar Nixon (Steffanie) Newell will be returning home to the United Kingdom as part of their Chapter 71 show to face Jinny in a bout for the prestigious title.

Michael Cole announced at the top of the show that Jonathan Coachman was ‘on assignment’ and that David Otunga would be filling in for him on the announce team for the show.

Kane Won’t Rule Out Wrestling If He’s Elected Mayor, New WWE NXT Announced

During this interview, he was asked if he wins the election for Mayor of Knox County, would he consider wrestling again. He won’t rule out wrestling again by stating, “I never rule anything out. Impact Wrestling Merges Grand & World Championships

Impact Wrestling has decided to retire the Grand Championship.

On Monday, June 4, 2018, the promotion officially announced that the Grand title has been merged with the World Championship, thus creating one title: the Undisputed World Championship.

What are your thoughts on this decision and new design? Sound off in the comment section below.

Legacy Of The Grand Title

The Grand Title was introduced at the August 13th, 2016 Impact Wrestling tapings by then-TNA President Billy Corgan. It initially replaced the King of the Mountain Championship.

Matches for the Grand Title featured three 3-minute rounds and could be won by pinfall or submission. If there was no winner after 3 rounds, a panel of judges deciding the winner by considering physicality, aggressiveness, and control.

There was an 8-man tournament held to crown the first champion Aaron Rex (Damien Sandow) earned the achievement to be the inaugural Grand Champion at the 2016 Bound for Glory pay-per-view event.

If you recall, Austin Aries held both titles before the merger was announced. When Aries returned to the promotion in February of this year, he beat Eli Drake to become the new World Champion on his first night back. He would go onto beat Matt Sydal the following week to win the Grand Title. Although he would lose the World Title to Pentagon Jr. at the Redemption PPV, he would win it back on an episode of Impact Wrestling.

It was also announced on Monday who Aries would be defending the World Title against at the upcoming Slammiversary PPV event. For more on the two matches announced for this event, please click here.

Mickie James Talks Progression Of Women’s Wrestling, Her Career

Former WWE Women’s Champion Mickie James was recently profiled by Fredericksburg.com.

In this article, James took the time to reflect on her career and how she got into the pro wrestling business. In this interview, James spoke about how she went from working as a truck stop waitress to being a veteran of the sports entertainment company.

“It’s incredible and it’s also very humbling. I try to remember who I am and what I come from, because I didn’t come from super means. I had to work and pray and try really hard to succeed and get everything that I wanted out of life. I’m still not satisfied.”

James is grateful for those female wrestlers who came before her and is hoping that she can be remembered in that same spotlight like that before decides to retire as an in-ring performer.

“I wanted to be one of the best in the business, whether it was male or female. I recognized it was looked upon differently, but at the same time I wanted that line to be blurred. To see how far female wrestling has come is just inspiring and incredible. I’m just grateful to be a part of it and throw a little Virginia sass on it.”

What are your thoughts on James’ comments? Sound off in the comment section below.

The Background

She made her WWE main roster debut in October 2005 and was placed in a storyline with Trish Stratus. This led to her receiving a big push and her first WWE Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 22 in 2006 from Stratus.

On October 13, 2016, it was announced that James would return to WWE’s developmental brand NXT at the NXT TakeOver: Toronto event where she would compete on a match against the NXT Women’s Champion Asuka for the title. James lost the match.

On the January 17, 2017 episode of SmackDown Live, James made her return by helping Alexa Bliss retain the SmackDown Women’s Championship against Becky Lynch in a steel cage match. In April of that same year, James made her debut on the Raw brand as part of the Superstar Shakeup.

Triple H Shares His Vision For WWE’s Performance Center

WWE Executive and former WWE Champion Triple H has opened up on his vision for the WWE Performance Center.

Triple H, real name Paul Levesque, recently spoke with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated to promote the official website for the Performance Center, which launched this morning (June 4, 2018).

In this interview, he sounded off on how this website will help them further recruit athletes from around the world and transform them into a WWE Superstar.

“We’re looking for larger-than-life personalities, for quality human beings and emerging leaders, as well as the person who can handle the grind of long days on the road but still smiles when seeing children waiting at the airport,” said Levesque. “Our stars are superheroes to most of the world, so we want the right people.

“This is the path to WWE. There are some markets that are much more mature and ready to begin the process, where there are other markets that are going to need more time to create a pipeline. Over time, this path will become clear. The process is now in place.”

Before NXT, which Triple H created, WWE had OVW and other developmental brands to get talents that they saw as draws ready for the big stage.  Triple H believed that they needed to build within instead of reach out to other promotions and grab their talent. Thus, NXT was born, and later WWE created the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

WWE’s Global Talent Search

“The Game” believes that the next step for the sports entertainment company is to get talent from not just the United States but from around the world.

“We’re recruiting globally, finding stars around the world,” said Levesque. “WWE is this global product that is seen everywhere and has massive appeal, almost on a level where there is nothing quite like that. American football does not translate a lot overseas, cricket doesn’t translate everywhere in the world. Soccer is probably the closest to it, but we have this amazing product that is globally massive. Seventy percent of our viewership across all our platforms comes from outside of the US. We want to keep the world engaged.

“Our goal is to find local talent to try out with the WWE, train them locally, then see the talent eventually move to the US, become part of a global brand in NXT, go to Raw, go to SmackDown, and then be a part of WrestleMania,” said Levesque. “What is that engagement then to those fans in that area? That’s transformative to a global audience.

“We’re one of the biggest, most watched products in India. But if we can take local, homegrown talent from India and create stars, there will be an even deeper involvement. We are a truly global brand. We tour globally and the product exists globally. It’s the global localization of the world, and engaging with local markets in a grassroots manner leads to an even greater local presence.”

WWE held a live event on Saturday night in Waco, Texas. At the show, the former NXT stable made their main roster debut when Eric Young and Alexander Wolfe took on Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows in a tag team match but lost by DQ once Killian Dain interfered.

If you recall, the sports entertainment company decided to call up the group that consists of Young, Dain, and Wolfe from NXT to the main roster and placed them on the SmackDown brand shortly after WrestleMania 34 in April.

Tyson Kidd Reflects On His Career-Ending Injury

Former WWE Tag Team Champion Tyson Kidd (TJ Wilson) has reflected on the injury that ended his in-ring career.

For those who may not remember, Kidd was seriously injured three years in a dark match prior to a RAW TV event with Samoa Joe after taking the muscle buster.

He ended up getting C1-C2 spinal fusion surgery, and doctors said that there was a 95 percent chance of death. Thus, at the time, it was considered life-threatening injury as well.

Now, that his in-ring career is over in the sports entertainment, he noted in a recent post on his official Twitter account that he’s really enjoying his current role with the WWE, which is being a producer on the main roster.

He wrote the following:

“3 years ago my entire world was halted.  I had no clue what the hell the rest of my life would look like.  I really enjoy my current role and look forward to many more years contributing to something I love.”

It should also be noted that the PPG Paints Arena is advertising Bryan vs. Cass in a singles match for the upcoming Extreme Rules PPV event that takes place Sunday, July 15, 2018, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Thus, it appears that this feud will be continuing for at least another month.

Steve Austin Discusses The Problem With The ‘What’ Chant

WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin has discussed the problem with a chant he helped make famous.

One of the signatures of Austin’s entrance was him talking as he walked down the ramp and as a result of being a great talker, he came up with the word that started a chant that is still around today.

During a recent episode of The Steve Austin Show (transcript courtesy of Wrestling Inc), the WWE Hall of Famer talked about the problem with the ‘What’ chant.

“I never knew the ‘What?’ chant would stick around as long as it’s stuck around,” said Austin. He later continued, “it can really mess with a guys’ or girls’ rhythm, what they are really trying to say. Sometimes they can get flustered. Sometimes that ‘What?’ chant could really be overwhelming, and you think people aren’t paying attention to what you’re saying, and sometimes on a really strong, heart-felt promo is happening, they’ll start with that ‘What?’ chant.

Austin continued by stating, “The audience is missing out what the wrestler’s saying, so sometimes you gotta time that ‘What?’ chant when there’s some bulls–t going on and you gotta be able to listen to a real deal promo so you know what’s going on in the story. I feel for ya, and I feel for when they’re trying to cut a good promo. It interrupts your rhythm, plain and simple.”

For years now, Steve Austin has been regarded as one of the biggest stars in the history of the sports entertainment company.

If you recall, Austin came up with the line around the time of the Alliance angle and kept using it a few years after that. Even though he doesn’t appear on WWE television as frequently as he used to, the fans kept the chant going.
