Lita Sounds Off On Women Barred From Greatest Royal Rumble

There was a lot of talk about how WWE officials handled one situation regarding the Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia.

It all started when WWE Hall of Famer Jerry “The King” Lawler and guest Jim Cornette talked about the WWE Greatest Royal Rumble event in Saudi Arabia during a recent episode of Dinner With The King.

The two legends also talked about the fact that women cannot wrestle at the show. Cornette suggested that WWE give the women a hefty payday while they stay at home. Lawler replied with, “I think that’s exactly what’s happening.”

It was then reported that female superstars in WWE were being paid as if they had performed at the show. The reason that they didn’t work or event appear at the show was due to the cultural differences in the country compared to the majority of the world.

Lita spoke with WrestleZone Radio for a new interview promoting her new The UFO Sho on ASY TV. During the interview, she discussed women not appearing at Greatest Royal Rumble.

“I understand that they are a business, a global business and they are always looking to expand their global presence. However, I do feel this was a direct conflict of interest with them maintaining any integrity or truth to the fact that they say they would like to push forward women, their roles and their reputations in this business as anything resembling equal to a male. Make the money, that’s fine, but don’t try to cover it up. Don’t say, “No, we are doing this because in the future we would like to help progress their culture forward!” No, you want the money, you’re a business and businesses make money. That’s okay. From my perspective over here, I don’t own your business so that’s your call. From a PR perspective don’t say you are doing it because, “We want to help progress that culture forward.” No, it’s a direct conflict of interest, in my opinion.”

Chris Jericho Reveals He Almost Replaced Shane McMahon At WrestleMania 34

Former WWE Champion Chris Jericho almost ended up wrestling at WrestleMania 34.

On the latest episode of Talk is Jericho, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion and SmackDown General Manager Daniel Bryan was the special guest.

Right out of the gate, Jericho dropped some interesting news about how he almost competed at the biggest event of the year for the sports entertainment company, WrestleMania 34.

He noted that he was the backup plan to be Bryan’s tag team partner at WrestleMania 34 in a match against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

Originally, SmackDown Commissioner Shane McMahon was supposed to be Bryan’s partner but that idea was in jeopardy due to McMahon’s health problems leading up to the show.

If you recall, in March, just one month before WrestleMania 34, McMahon was dealing with acute diverticulitis and an umbilical hernia.

McMahon had an infection due to acute diverticulitis and was hospitalized for several days in Antigua as he was on vacation with his family before being flown back to a New York-area hospital, where he was being treated with heavy doses of antibiotics.

There was some concern that he would miss WrestleMania 34. Thus, WWE Chairman Vince McMahon reached out to Jericho about possibly replacing Shane in case he couldn’t work.

“A few weeks before WrestleMania, maybe three or four weeks, I get a call from Vince. And he’s talking about Shane and his appendix, or not his appendix, his diverticulitis, and he had an infection in his hand and he had… a staph infection and he had… a hernia. And he goes, ‘Listen, we don’t know if he can do ‘Mania.’

And he had somehow looked, or got someone to look at my schedule, and we had a Fozzy show that day… So he was like ‘I know you’re doing a Fozzy show, and you’re gonna watch WrestleMania with your fans,’ he goes, ‘what would you think about coming to New Orleans if Shane can’t do it?’”

At this point in time, Jericho was last seen on WWE television during a backstage segment with Elias at the 25 Anniversary episode of Monday Night Raw in January. He last wrestled in a WWE ring back in July of 2016.

Outside of WWE, Jericho made several surprise appearances for New Japan Pro Wrestling including his match against Kenny Omega at the Wrestle Kingdom event at the Tokyo Dome.

This was a big match for Bryan as it was his first bout back since he had to retire from in-ring competition due to his history with concussions. However, after two years of fighting for his dream, he was medically cleared.

Bryan chimed in by stating, “We’re in this stage now where they don’t tell the boys anything. So they keep all the secrets from the boys because they’re afraid all the boys are talking to the dirt sheets. And so I asked, cause when Shane called me and told me, he said ‘I’m in the hospital right now. I got diverticulitus while I was in Antigua, and then when they were giving me IVs I got a staph infection from the IVs, and then I have this hernia that’s coming out of my stomach… but don’t worry I’ll be ready for ‘Mania’…”

Jericho continued by saying, “And it’s funny because we were looking, we were googling airports, and it was in Hampton Beach, New Hampshire, like the most out of the way place. We were looking up airports close to Hampton Beach and how long is the charter to get there [New Orleans], and he [Vince] was like ‘Okay, you can make it right on time and we’ll give you a police escort, and you’ll basically have to go right into the ring.’

And I said ‘Listen, I’ve got no problem with that, and I know that Bryan has no problem with it. Kevin and Sami – especially Sami – are gonna have heart attacks calling a WrestleMania match in the ring.’ I mean, obviously we would think of some stuff beforehand, but like, I can do it. I don’t have a problem, so can you. We could do it now. But like, Sami is going to die of a frickin’ aneurysm is we do that!”

Eddie Edwards Discusses New Impact Wrestling Creative Team, Future Of The Promotion

Former World Champion Eddie Edwards continues to be one of the best wrestlers in Impact Wrestling.

Throughout his time with the promotion, which started when he and Davey Richards decided to go to TNA back in 2014 after a successful run in Ring of Honor, Edwards has won several titles in the company including the World, X-Division, and Tag Team Championships.

Edwards recently spoke with SportsKeeda to talk about various topics. During this interview, he discussed Scott D’Amore and Don Callis being in charge of creative of Impact Wrestling and the future of the promotion.

“ I do. I have total confidence in what’s going on in the office right now. Between Anthem, Scott, Don, Sonjay and stuff, it’s a great combination. The lines of communication between the boys and the office are open. Everybody’s on the same page. You can’t have people pulling in different directions.

So right now, whether it’s one or two steps at a time, we’re all going in the same direction. I have full confidence in what the office is doing right now.”

The latest pay-per-view event that Impact Wrestling held was their Redemption show, which took place on April 22, 2018, in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios. He was asked if this show was the start of a new regime for Impact.

“It’s a continuation of the regime we have right now. We’re all going in the same direction right now. Day by day, they want to make the product better. Bring it back to the heights it was at before and then pass and eclipse that.

So, the Redemption pay-per-view showed everybody being on the same page. You could tell. Everybody wants to see the product exceed and excel.”

WWE Star Suffers Minor Injury On SmackDown Live

There was one WWE Superstar who unfortunately suffered a minor injury this week.

As seen on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Baltimore, MD at the Royal Farms Arena on the USA Network, former WWE Tag Team Champion Xavier Woods took on former RAW Tag Team Champion Cesaro in a singles match.

During the match, Cesaro connected with a devastating uppercut to Woods that had him bleeding from his mouth. After the show, Woods decided to take to his official Instagram account to reveal that as a result of taking that uppercut, it made him bite his tongue and that’s the reason he was bleeding so much.

Woods wrote the following in the caption of this post on his account: “As a result of a nasty uppercut from @wwecesaro I have one hole and two partials in my tongue. Eating/talking the next few weeks should be fun.”

Kurt Angle Q&A: Dean Ambrose’s Return From Injury, Cesaro Being Underrated, Titus O’Neil’s Botch

WWE Hall of Famer Kurt Angle recently did a Q&A on Facebook and commented on a number of interesting topics.

Angle returned to in-ring competition under the WWE banner at last year’s Survivor Series pay-per-view event in November.

He teamed up with former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey to take on Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at WrestleMania 34 in a Mixed Tag Team Match at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana.

The WWE Hall of Famer last worked a match under the WWE banner at the Greatest Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. Speaking of that event, a fan asked him about Titus O’Neil’s botch at the event.

“I cringed when it occurred. But I like the fact that Titus is humble enough to make fun of it. It’s a “wrestling moment” that will never be forgotten.”

He was also asked about the five WWE Superstars that can carry the company, which he listed,“Roman, Seth, Ambrose, Braun, Balor, Roode, Elias. Jordan, Gable, Mahal, Ronda, Asuka…Nia. Oops…that’s more than 5. And I forgot the SmackDown talent. Lots to choose from.”

Angle was also asked about one underrated star in the sports entertainment company, which he responded, “Cesaro. He hasn’t been world champ yet.”

Finally, he was asked about Dean Ambrose’s return from injury. If you recall, Ambrose underwent successful surgery to repair a high-grade triceps tendon in December.

Ambrose’s arm injury reportedly took place at the Tables, Ladders, and Chairs pay-per-view event back on October 22nd. During that pay-per-view, Ambrose took a bump on a table that didn’t break.

Following the match, his right arm immediately swelled up. While Ambrose didn’t take any time off and continued to work through the pain, things got worse over time.

“Dean will be back very soon. I can’t comment on when though.”

Details On Creative Direction For Roman Reigns

WWE Chairman Vince McMahon is still pushing forward with his plans for Roman Reigns. Since 2014, WWE has attempted to establish Reigns as their next “face of the company.”

Reigns had headlined multiple major WWE pay-per-view events, including the last four WrestleManias (31 lost to Seth Rollins, 32 beat Triple H, 33 when he defeated The Undertaker, and 34 where he lost to Brock Lesnar).

There has never been a babyface that has been pushed like Reigns that is disliked more by fans in the history of professional wrestling. Historically, when a babyface is not getting over with the crowd, the promoter or booker would turn them heel. Reigns is truly a different case in that sense.

Dave Meltzer discussed the current creative direction of Reigns’ character on the sports entertainment company’s flagship show, Monday Night RAW, during the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio:

“They’re trying to tell the story and I can’t believe it because they’ve been trying for a couple of months, but they’re still trying to tell the story that [Roman Reigns] is Daniel Bryan and management is screwing him over and that’s why he’s not the champion. But nobody buys it.”

“They’re trying to figure out a way to get people to cheer him. We’re supposed to think that all these things that happened — the whole thing that they favor Brock Lesnar but it didn’t work. I guess for whatever reason even though it didn’t work nobody has a better idea so that’s what they’re going with.”

Jinder Mahal Reacts To Attacking Roman Reigns, WWE Stock Hits All-Time High

– WWE has started a new feud involving former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal.

As seen on this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in Uniondale, NY at the Nassau Coliseum on the USA Network, Mahal attacked Roman Reigns in the main event of the show when the former WWE Champion was competing against Sami Zayn and Finn Balor in a Triple Threat Money in the Bank qualifying match.

It appears that the sports entertainment company is building to a match between these two stars for the upcoming Money in the Bank pay-per-view event, which takes place on Sunday, June 17, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois at the Allstate Arena.

It should be noted that is pure speculation and has yet to be confirmed and/or announced. Mahal sent out the following tweets about the attack:

– WWE officials including Chairman Vince McMahon are likely very happy today (May 8, 2018) as the stock of the company passed 42.50 per share for the first time with a market cap of $3.25 billion.

With WWE’s TV rights deal expiring soon, stock for the promotion should look to increase in the coming months.

Former NXT Champion Teases SmackDown Debut, Rusev Hypes Match With Daniel Bryan

– We are about a month removed from the WWE Superstar Shakeup, and former WWE NXT Champion Andrade “Cien” Almas has still yet to make his SmackDown Live debut.

Since it was announced that the sports entertainment company decided to call him up from the third WWE brand to the blue brand, WWE has aired video packages of his business manager, Zelina Vaga hyping the debut of the former champion.

It seems like it’s just a matter of time before he steps in between the blue ropes to make his in-ring SmackDown debut. Andrade sent out the following to tease his debut:

– It’s already been announced that Rusev will take on Daniel Bryan in a Money in the Bank qualifying match on this week’s episode of SmackDown Live in Baltimore, MD at the Royal Farms Arena on the USA Network.

WWE Fans Voice Frustration With Monday’s RAW, Guests For Table For 3 Episodes

– There were some fans in attendance of this week’s episode of Monday Night RAW in Uniondale, NY at the Nassau Coliseum on the USA Network that were not happy.

Coming off the heels of Sunday’s (May 6, 2018) WWE Backlash pay-per-view event in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center on the WWE Network, which was heavily criticized by fans of the sports entertainment company, many people believed that WWE Chairman Vince McMahon would deliver with a good episode of RAW.

It was a solid show. However, there were some people who attended RAW this week that were unhappy.

Reddit user Mattytredeuce for the following, “Just left the building after Raw tonight, and I am incredibly disappointed and need to get this off my chest. First off this was not my first raw, but this is the worst I’ve ever experienced. I know I’m not the first to point out how bad the live crowds have been lately, but tonight was ridiculous. When you buy a ticket to these shows you have every right to enjoy yourselves as you see fit, but is it so hard to show a little respect? Both Elias and Bobby Roode got decent reactions before their match, solely because Elias sings and Roode’s song is fun. The minute the match started, out came the beach balls followed by dueling chants of “let’s go yankees/let’s go mets” (get it, we’re in New York) One fan got escorted out and began throwing punches at the security guard, lovely. There were multiple good, exciting matches tonight and all anyone in the crowd could care about was their 5 seconds of fame. What a disgrace.”

Reddit user zeppelin1023 wrote, “Was live at the show and just wanted to talk about something that came across really manipulative and kind of gross. So Jinder comes out to the ring for his match against Chad Gable. Does the whole pose etc and we go to commercial. They show us a bunch of different ads and whatnot. And then we get to the last commercial before coming back. And it was an ad for Tribute To The Troops. This Immediately caught my eye because i thought it was weird they would play an ad for that so early in the year. So the commercial ends with a big flag waving and U.S.A being chanted so the arena naturally starts to chant that as well JUST as the cameras come back to Raw. I really don’t know/hope this wasn’t intentional but i am so tired of this Xenaphobic garbage WWE can’t seem to get over. Especially in this day and age where this is the last thing we need. It’s tiresome and disgusting.”

– WWE’s streaming service, WWE Network, premiered the first episode of season 2 of Table for 3 this week that featured AJ Styles, Kurt Angle, and Shane McMahon. Here are the rest of the guest list for upcoming episodes of the series:

* Edge, Christian, Jeff Hardy, and Matt Hardy

* Jeff Jarrett, Elias, and Road Dogg

* Trish Stratus, Lita, and Alexa Bliss

* Diamond Dallas Page, Kevin Nash, and Ric Flair

* Natalya, Nia Jax, and Beth Phoenix

Triple H Discusses Growing WWE NXT Into Global Brand

The vision that Triple H has for the WWE NXT brand continues to move forward.

Before NXT, which Triple H created, WWE had OVW and other developmental brands to get talents that they saw as draws ready for the big stage. At the time, the indie scene was a totally different place than it is right now.

Triple H believed that they needed to build within instead of reach out to other promotions and grab their talent. Thus, NXT was born, and later WWE created the Performance Center in Orlando, Florida.

During a recent interview with Planeta Wrestling, the former WWE Champion opened up on wanting to grow the NXT into a global brand. Here is what he had to say (transcript courtesy of Wrestling Inc):

“Those are our goals over time. Whether that would be in the Middle East, or India, or South America or Latin America, it all comes down to timing, they all take time and partnerships. They take significant business dealings. It is all in the process. Would I love for NXT to be this global, international brand in all the markets that I mentioned? Absolutely! It is all going to take time.”

WWE Teases Another Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar Match

It looks like we haven’t seen the last of Roman Reigns’ quest to dethrone WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar.

Despite that fact that Reigns has already lost to Lesnar twice in the past month (at WrestleMania 34 and Greatest Royal Rumble), WWE.com’s preview for tonight’s RAW ponders if Reigns’ victory of Samoa Joe at Backlash will “finally” put him a position to battle The Beast.

Lesnar is not currently advertised for Monday’s RAW TV event from Long Island, nor is he booked for next week’s European tour.

Brock Lesnar’s next advertised appearance is scheduled for the May 21st edition RAW in Albany, NY.

The Universal Championship was not defended at Backlash, so there’s a good chance Lesnar will be in action at next month’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view on June 17th from Chicago.

Roman Reigns Reacts To His Win Over Samoa Joe At WWE Backlash

Despite his recent losses, Roman Reigns came out on top in his last match.

Reigns defeated Samoa Joe in the main event of Sunday’s (May 6, 2018) WWE Backlash pay-per-view event in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center on the WWE Network.

It was originally reported that AJ Styles vs. Shinsuke Nakamura for the WWE Title would serve as the headliner of this show.

However, plans changed, and they put “The Big Dog” in the main event after he lost to Brock Lesnar for the Universal Title at both WrestleMania 34 and the Greatest Royal Rumble event last month.

WWE has posted this interview of Cathy Kelley talking to Reigns after the event. He noted that this win was all about pride and that it proved that if someone is doubting you, then you can do anything in regards to Joe talking trash to build this match.

Reigns added that he would conquer every single day and that’s why this is his yard. You can watch it here:

Details On Who Produced Matches At WWE Backlash

People are still talking about Sunday’s (May 6, 2018) WWE Backlash pay-per-view event in Newark, New Jersey at the Prudential Center on the WWE Network.

The show had a controversial finish in the WWE Title Match between AJ Styles and Shinsuke Nakamura that saw the match end a double count out despite it being a No DQ Match.

Finally, the main event saw Roman Reigns beat Samoa Joe, which ended the three and half hour show.

Lawler and fellow WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross have called some of the biggest and historic matches/segments in the history of the sports entertainment company. They were featured on the Raw brand for the majority of their time with the WWE. It’s safe to say that they are if not the best commentary team ever put together by WWE Chairman Vince McMahon.

Just last month, Lawler revealed during an episode of ‘Dinner With The King’ that he suffered a stroke at his home on March 21 and was unable to speak for almost three days. Also, his face was also sagging on one side but then woke up on a Saturday morning and was 100% better and able to continue his normal routine.

He did commentary for some of the matches that were featured on the WrestleMania 34 pre-show. Thankfully, he recovered and is well now.

On the most recent episode of his podcast, Lawler gave some more details on the situation. Here is what he had to say:

“I had my first follow up with a neurologist, Dr. Weaver here in Memphis that came to see me while I was in Intensive Care and everything with my stroke. I had to get a cat scan today; but, the cool thing is he showed me a picture, brought me back and showed me a picture of my brain and this was not something I wanted to hear. He said, ‘Let me show you your brain & your brain damage.’ I said, ‘What?’ And he said, ‘Yeah, take a look.’

Lawler continued, “So anyway he shows me the scan of my brain and there was a spot on it, a dark spot, about the size of a quarter. He said, ‘When you were in the hospital that spot was solid white because it was solid blood. Now the blood has been absorbed and that is cells that have been damaged.’ I said, ‘So that amount of cells were damaged?’ He said, ‘Oh yeah, you’re just very fortunate…if that amount, that size, had been further down inside your brain, you could have lost the whole use of the whole left side of your body.’ I have no residual effects at all, I’m lucky.”

Potential Spoiler: Two Former World Champions Spotted At The Site Of Backlash

WWE fans should expect to see two former WWE World Heavyweight Champions appear at the Backlash pay-per-view event.

Pwinsider.com is reporting that WWE Hall of Famer Edge and Christian have been spotted in Newark, New Jersey, which is the site of tonight’s Backlash PPV event.

They were last seen on WWE programming when they inducted The Dudley Boyz into the 2018 class of the WWE Hall of Fame last month during WrestleMania 34 weekend.

There is speculation that they will be appearing at the event to promote the second season of their WWE Network series.

It always possible that they will be just filming stuff backstage for The Edge and Christian Show.
