Cody Rhodes vs. Kenny Omega Announced For Supercard of Honor

One match that wrestling fans have been waiting to see has a date set.

It was revealed on Friday that a singles match between Cody Rhodes and Kenny Omega would take place at Ring of Honor’s Supercard of Honor XII show.

This match announcement stems from an angle that was done last Sunday at NJPW’s New Beginning in Sapporo show where Cody turned on Omega following Omega’s loss of the IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship to Jay White. This led to Rhodes attacking Omega.

The match was made official at the end of the new episode of Being the Elite, which you can see below.

Ring of Honor will hold their Supercard of Honor XIII event on Saturday, April 7th, 2018 in New Orleans, Louisiana at the Lakefront Arena. The event will air on traditional PPV outlets and the FITE TV app.

Update On Bobby Lashley’s Next Move

We’ve got an update on the status of former ECW/ TNA World Champion Bobby Lashley. On the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Lashley is no longer negotiating with New Japan Pro Wrestling.

After talking with people within both NJPW and Impact Wrestling, the belief is that Lashley is heading back to WWE.

Also, it should be noted that there has been talk of Lashley possibly working with Universal Champion Brock Lesnar after WrestleMania 34. Although

Lesnar’s contract expires in April, it’s expected that the sports entertainment company will extend the deal going through August, which would allow WWE the opportunity to promote a Lesnar vs. Lashley match.

Update On Possible Cena vs. Undertaker WrestleMania Match

With WrestleMania 34 less than three months way, wrestling fans are once again speculating if The Undertaker will lace up the boots one more time and compete at WWE’s biggest show of the year.

While there has been no official word about WWE’s in-ring future, the Wrestling Observer has been reporting that plans for the top matches at WrestleMania include a long-awaited showdown between The Undertaker and John Cena.

Undertaker returned at this week’s RAW 25th Anniversary Special, his first WWE appearance since last year’s Mania loss to Roman Reigns. Undertaker’s RAW 25 segment came and went with no mention of John Cena or what’s in store for him come April 8th.

On the latest edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer addressed the situation, noting that Cena vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania is still the plan and the feud will begin in “the next few weeks.”

Following Sunday’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view, John Cena is expected to work Elias before transitioning into his WrestleMania program. The belief is that Elias is standing in for Samoa Joe, who was scheduled to work with John Cena around this time but is out of action for several months with a foot injury.

Samoa Joe Provides Update On Recent Injury, Comments On Missing Royal Rumble

Former NXT Champion Samoa Joe has addressed his most recent injury as well as talked about some other topics during a recent interview on Booker T’s Heated Conversations podcast.

As a result of his injury, WWE has had to make some changes to their plans. It’s been reported that Joe’s return has been pushed back after he suffered a plantar fascia rupture. The original timeline for his return was early March.

Instead of returning in early March, he is now slated to return to mid/late March instead. The injury was more severe than originally expected.

“As of right now it’s kind of a week to week thing. With these injuries sometimes these things can heal earlier and sometimes later. They are going to do a little bit of an ultrasound every week. They’re going to be giving me treatments. It’s not something that requires surgery. It’s basically a lot of time, rest, elevation and letting it heal. It just depends how quickly it’s going to heal. Hopefully it will be sooner than later. Obviously we’re going to be past the Rumble but I don’t know how much further past that.”

With Joe dealing with his injury, he will, unfortunately, miss out on competing at the Royal Rumble pay-per-view event, which takes place on Sunday, January 28, 2018, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania at the Wells Fargo Center and will air on the WWE Network and some traditional pay-per-view outlets.

“Anytime you miss one of the “Big 4” shows or, really, just shows in general it’s always sad to say. A younger version of me would definitely be stressing out and probably making this situation a lot worse. For me right now, I know what I need to do to get back and be healthy. I understand the time table and what I need to do to exceed that time table. I am more accepting of the process because I realize it’s unavoidable. Now it’s just about concentrating just getting back and being healthy.”

Hulk Hogan Reveals His Status For Next Week’s WWE Raw 25

A fan asked former WWE Champion Hulk Hogan if he would be appearing on the 25th Anniversary edition of Monday Night Raw on January 22nd. He responded with the following:

Hogan was fired from WWE in the summer of 2015 after racially charged comments from a sex tape came to light. Gawker alleged that Hogan only filed a lawsuit against them to prevent the racial statements from being released.

Hogan’s WWE return has depended on the company being reasonably sure that bringing him back won’t cause a big backlash due to his racist comments. It’s possible that WWE hires him in an Ambassador role.

There’s no reason to do anything unless you want to be the best.”

It’s another opportunity for me to show how much I appreciate the support and the love I’ve gotten from the fans. At the end of the day, it’s a validation that I’ve done something right.”

Plans For Two Top WrestleMania Matches, WWE HOF Inductees

WrestleMania 34 is less than three months away and plans are well underway to lock in the top matches planned for the show. In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer NewsletterDave Meltzer confirmed that WWE has settled on the top two matches for the show.

The main event will surprise nobody, as Roman Reigns will challenge Brock Lesnar for the WWE Universal Championship. This match has been years in the making and was effectively set in stone going back over a year, when Meltzer reported it prior to last year’s Mania.

The other top match for WrestleMania 34 will see “free agent” John Cena finally squaring off against The Undertaker.

With Taker being backstage at SmackDown this week and the sports entertainment company promoting him for the RAW 25 Anniversary show, the feeling is that the angle for Cena vs. Undertaker will be shot in two weeks at the special edition of RAW.

WrestleMania 34 is set to be held on April 8, 2018, at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. This event airs on pay-per-view (PPV) and WWE Network and is the most successful and longest-running professional wrestling event in history.

The headliner for this year’s HOF class will be former WWE & WCW World Champion Bill Goldberg, who had a successful return to WWE after over a decade out of the ring.

She also participated in a battle royal which was won by Nikki Cross to determine one of the contenders for the vacant NXT Women’s Championship at NXT TakeOver: WarGames last October.

Gabe Sapolsky Signing With WWE

Gabe Sapolsky will reportedly be signing a contract with the WWE, according to PWInsider. Sapolsky has been working for the sports entertainment company on a handshake agreement while helping out at NXT TV tapings.

According to the report, Sapolsky will retain his position and responsibilities with WWNLive, which is the parent company of EVOLVE.

Back in August, Sapolsky commented on his role in NXT in an ‘WWN Alerts’ email blast. At the time, he denied that he was joining NXT full-time.

“It has been an invaluable learning experience being at NXT. I am all about talent development. My favorite part of this job is seeing talent learn, improve, grow and then realize their dreams. The lessons I have learned from Triple H, William Regal and everyone at NXT has made me better at my job. Everyone is incredible there.”

“There is no talk of a writer’s job at NXT. I am not there for a tryout as has been rumored. I’m there because we all want to have the best tools and ideas possible to lead pro wrestling into the future. NXT is an opportunity for me to improve my skills, and then spread that knowledge to everyone in WWN, whether it is directly to our locker room, to those who participate in the Seminar/Tryout or anyone who joins our office staff with the New Promoter Initiative.”

As noted, The Miz, who returned on this week’s show after being off television for several weeks to film the Marine 6, will challenge Roman Reigns for the Intercontinental Title on the special edition of RAW.

Former WWE World Champion Could Join Impact Wrestling Soon

Dave Meltzer mentioned on Monday’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio that former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio could finally be making his Impact Wrestling debut. According to Meltzer, a deal between the sides are still ongoing and have yet to agree to terms.

Rumors about Mysterio talking with the promotion dates back to the summer of 2017. The company is trying to get Mysterio signed for the tapings this week in Orlando, Florida at Universal Studios

Mysterio made it clear in an interview with ESPN in December that he’s not currently signed to any deal with any promotion.

“I’m not locked up to any company,” Mysterio said. “I’m an independent contractor, as we say. I could go work wherever I want. That’s the beautiful thing about being on this side of the fence. You don’t have a commitment with only one company. You can go around and pretty much wrestle wherever you want. You can choose when you want your off-days to be. That was one of my main priorities when I left WWE.”
