  • RAW Viewership Increases, But Doesn’t Crack Top 10 On Cable

RAW Viewership Increases, But Doesn’t Crack Top 10 On Cable

Monday’s edition of WWE RAW averaged 2.374 million viewers, an increase over 2.302 million the previous week. This ended WWE’s streak of declining (and historically low) RAW viewership.

Here are the hourly numbers, courtesy of ShowBuzzDaily.com:

    • Hour 1: 2.533 million viewers
    • Hour 2: 2.388 million viewers
    • Hour 3: 2.200 million viewers

Although WWE stopped the week-to-week ratings slide, RAW was not among the Top 10 most-watched programs on cable for the night. NFL Monday Night Football, the Yankees vs. Red Socks MLB playoff game, ESPN Sports Center and cable news programming all had more total viewers.

RAW featured fallout from Saturday’s Super Show-Down pay-per-view, a reunion of DX and the announcement of Shawn Michaels coming out of retirement, the Bella Twins turning on Ronda Rousey and more. To catch up on this week’s Raw, check out:

  • Daniel Bryan Defends Wife Brie Bella After Backlash Over Liv Morgan Injury

Daniel Bryan Defends Wife Brie Bella After Backlash Over Liv Morgan Injury

Daniel Bryan is standing by his wife’s side and pointing out that accidents happen in professional wrestling matches all the time.

Over the past two weeks, Bryan’s spouse Brie Bella has been receiving a relentless amount of criticism after she accidentally kicked Liv Morgan in the head twice in a row, nearly knocking her unconscious and ultimately causing her to have a concussion.

Immediately after the incident happened, Bella posted an apology on Twitter while sending Morgan her well wishes after the accidental kicked nearly knocked her out.

More recently, Bella has taken to Instagram where she wrote a lengthy post about cyberbullying, undoubtedly aimed at the amount of criticism she’s faced since the incident with Morgan in the ring a couple of weeks ago.

Now Bryan is going on the offensive to defend his wife and also point out that accidents happen in the ring constantly — and even he’s been the perpetrator in the past.

“I am proud of how strong my wife is. After accidentally injuring Liv Morgan last week, the first time Bri’s ever hurt another performer, she’s been subject to a constant barrage of social media attacks. Almost every wrestler has accidentally hurt someone but rarely do you see this kind of hate when it happens. For example, I concussed Randy Orton in 2012 after hitting him with what was supposed to be a chair to the back. Unfortunately part of the side hit him in the back of the head, and he was forced to miss a PPV. In 2009 in our last match against each other, I concussed Nigel McGuinness after doing a dive into him in the crowd, where his head hit the floor. And there are others.

“As for the Yes kicks, two weeks ago I accidentally kicked Andrade directly in the head due to a miscommunication on my part. I feel fortunate that he was ok, because there are few feelings worse than hurting someone. Despite all of that, never did I receive the backlash Bri did this week. With all the negative things said about my wife, nobody was harder on her than she was on herself. Thank you to the many people who reached out to support her, both publicly and privately. We all wish Liv Morgan a speedy recovery.”

Bryan ended his post with the hash tag ‘cyberbullying’, referencing back to his wife’s post on the subject on Instagram.

WWE had previously confirmed that Morgan suffered a concussion from the incident but outside of that, there’s been no other statement about Bella’s in ring performance.

By all accounts, she will still be a very active member of the roster with a high profile match coming up this weekend at ‘WWE Super Show-Down’ when she teams with her sister Nikki and former UFC champion Ronda Rousey is a six-person tag match against the Riott Squad — with Liv Morgan still currently scheduled to perform as well.

Mia Yim made her NXT live event this weekend. As advertised, the Mae Young Classic competitor wrestled at Saturday’s NXT live event from Fort Pierce, Florida. In her first match for NXT, Mia Yim defeated Aliyah in singles action.

Mia Yim has wrestled on and off for Impact Wrestling between 2013-2017. She was expected to sign with WWE after last year’s Mae Young Classic tournament, but was sidelined with a leg injury. During a recent interview with TVInsider, Mia revealed the hardest part of her recovery was the mental aspect.

“The hardest part of the recovery was the mental,” Yim said. “Going to physical therapy, learning how to walk again and run again, rolling around in the ring — it was all easy compared to the mental part.”

  • WWE Crown Jewel: Saudi Arabia Network Special Announced

WWE Crown Jewel: Saudi Arabia Network Special Announced

On Friday, November 2nd, WWE will present Crown Jewel from King Fahd International Stadium in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The event will broadcast live on the WWE Network.

The main event of WWE Crown Jewel has been confirmed. Roman Reigns will defend the Universal Championship in a triple threat match. His opponents will be Brock Lesnar and Braun Strowman.

Brock Lesnar made a surprise return at Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. During the main event cage match, Lesnar attacked Reigns and Strowman. The match was ruled a no contest. It was Brock Lesnar’s first appearance since losing the Universal championship at SummerSlam.

Dave Meltzer reported on Monday that Lesnar is getting paid “well into the seven figures” to wrestle in Saudi Arabia. Crown Jewel is part of WWE’s lucrative 10-year deal with the country.

    WWE World Cup Tournament

According to WWE.com, Crown Jewel also will feature the first-ever WWE World Cup tournament. Details about the World Cup tournament are scarce, but WWE is touting the competition will determine “the best in the world.”

Brock Lesnar Reportedly Making Seven Figures To Wrestle In Saudi Arabia

Brock Lesnar is reportedly in line for a seven-figure payday when WWE returns to Saudi Arabia on November 2nd.

Lesnar made a surprise return at Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. During the main event between Roman Reigns and Braun Strowman, Lesnar’s music hit and The Beast Incarnate hit the ring. Lesnar kicked down the padlocked door, entered the cage and went berserk. He laid waste to Reigns and Strowman and the main event ended in a no contest.

After the pay-per-view went off the air, fans in the arena chanted, “This is bullsh*t” at the inconclusive match finish (Video). It was Lesnar’s first appearance for WWE since dropping the Universal Championship at SummerSlam.

    WWE Returns To Saudi Arabia

The live event on 11/2 is part of WWE’s lucrative 10-year deal with the country. The Greatest Royal Rumble back in April was a financial windfall for WWE. Based on WWE’s quarterly business statement, the show brought in an estimated $45 million. The show was more profitable than even WrestleMania 34. There is a ton of money being thrown around and WWE plans to stack the show with as much A-list talent as they can find.

According to Dave Meltzer (via MMAFighting.com), Brock Lesnar will be making “well into the seven figures” to wrestle in Saudi Arabia. Expect to see Lesnar involved in the Universal title picture on that show. He could face Roman Reigns in a single match or be part of a 3-way match involving Braun Strowman.

WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels is also rumored to be coming out of retirement in Saudi Arabia. Michaels is being advertised as the special guest referee for the Triple H vs. Undertaker match at Super Show-Down on October 6th.
