On the women’s side, Lana will face Billie Kay next week. This will be Lana’s first televised match since last October. Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Alexa Bliss and Ember Moon have already qualified.

Conrad Thompson Talks STARRCAST, WWE’s Reaction, The Possibility of All In 2 & Surprises

On Tuesday, we had a chance to speak with “The Podfather” himself, Conrad Thompson, about the upcoming STARRCAST convention during “All In” weekend (8/30-9/2).

For ticket information and full details on all the festivities taking place at event, visit Starrcast.com.

Topics discussed include how Starrcast came to be, what it’s been like planning a wrestling convention, WWE’s reaction to Starrcast & All In, if there are any surprise announcements still to come and more.

Here are the highlights from our conversation:

How Did Starrcast Come Together?

Conrad: “I reached out to them. I had this idea of a wrestling podcast convention in late 2016 / early 2017 when it became apparent that Greg Price was not going to run the NWA Legends Fan Fest in Charlotte in August 2017. I thought, ‘This would be a cool time to do a wrestling podcast convention.’ At the time, I was just starting Tony Schiavone’s podcast, where I first met him, and of course JR had been at that event, so it just felt like, this could be a thing – one stage event after another, sort of bringing the podcasts to life. Well, the hotel was booked, it wound up not shaking out, and as a result, I sort of had this idea in the back of my mind.

I saw the success off All In, it was gaining some traction, so I reached out to Cody and said, ‘Hey, what if … you know, WrestleMania has WrestleCon, you guys need an official convention. Rather than it be someone who is going to run matches and sort of take away from your in-ring product, what about a wrestling podcast convention?’ Cody was intrigued. I started putting together an itinerary, I put together my ideas and he loved it. The rest of The Elite loved it, so here we are. Now it’s a thing and we’ve managed to make Chicago a destination city over Labor Day weekend for wrestling fans.”

The Planning Process

Conrad: “It’s a lot more involved that I had imagined. With what I do now [podcasting], I do have to handle some logistics, but its the logistics for two guys. Then all of a sudden, you’re trying to manage the logistics for 50? That’s pretty challenging. I’ve never had to deal with event space, I’ve never had to coordinate hotel rooms, so it’s been a lot of new territory, but I’ve learned a lot and I think we’ve got our finger on the pulse of some pretty fun ideas – and that’s really what I was after most of all. I said ‘Lets put together the best content that we can’ and I’m pretty proud of how it shook out.

Plans to stream from STARRCAST or do a DVD release?

Conrad: “That sounds like a fun idea, but for right now, no. The answer is for us to just push forward as much as we can with promoting the actual live event. That’s not to say that won’t change down the road. I don’t think anybody expected All In to sell out in 30 minutes and we’ve got a similar situation. Of course we’re not going to sell out in 30 minutes, but if we were to sell out faster than we imagined, then yeah, I might consider that. But that’s not something I’ve even given serious thought to, because I’m (pardon the pun) trying to go All In on ticket sales.”

The Evolution of Starrcast

In addition to traditional live podcast and meet & greet sessions with wrestlers and industry figures, Starrcast will feature The Roast of Bruce Prichard, a DDP Yoga session, live music, comedy and karaoke, a video game tournament, the chance to cut a promo with Tony Schiavone & Sean Mooney and more.

We asked Conrad if he planned all these unique ideas from the beginning or if he started getting creative once he saw the momentum Starrcast was getting.

Conrad: “I’ve had all of these ideas for a while. This was sort of the fun, interactive things I wanted to do. I’ve got two or three more ideas up my sleeve. The plan was always to create sort of interactive events. I think a lot of people assume, ‘Oh, a wrestling podcast convention. What is that, a bunch of guys in black t-shirts sitting behind folding tables with microphones? That’s not interesting.’

I wanted to come up with something that was a little more than that. I put a lot of time, effort and energy into creating an experience. Hopefully it comes to fruition and everybody has a great time and considers it a great value.”

WWE’s Reaction To Starrcast

Conrad: “They’re aware of Starrcast because I put it in our contract with WWE when we signed up for Something Else To Wrestle With. I had to list inclusions of things we planned to do, so we put down the next year’s worth of fun, big ideas that we’re going to be allowed to do – and this was one of them. They knew it was coming, it wasn’t a surprise. On Something Else To Wrestle With, I’ve got Starrcast all behind me, i’m drinking out of a Starrcast cup, so we’re trying to promote without being super-obvious.”

What’s Next After All In & Starrcast?

Conrad: “Right now, [All In] is the destination. What I could imagine being the case is we get through that weekend and we reassess what’s next. At that point, hopefully All In has made an impression in the hearts and minds of fans who were a part of it and they want more of it. If they do, I’m sure the folks who put it together will try to find a way to recreate that magic somewhere else.

I’d imagine that Starrcast, even if that doesn’t happen, where there’s an ‘All In 2’, and I hope there is, maybe there’s an opportunity for us to do this again. With Starrcast, maybe with New Japan, maybe with Ring of Honor, maybe we’re able to do a piggyback event that’s separate from WWE. But then again, maybe it’s SummerSlam. Nobody is really doing a WrestleCon-style thing for SummerSlam. Maybe that’s the answer. We’ll see.”

Any Big Announcements Coming for All In or Starrcast?

Conrad: “Yeah, I think so. We’re still rolling out some guest announcements. We haven’t announced everybody. We’ve still got some in our back pocket, and that’s not to say we’re intentionally withholding it. It’s just a matter of logistically, it’s challenging. We’re waiting for confirmation, we’re essentially planning travel four months ahead of time, especially when you’re dealing with wrestlers, a lot of these guys are touring not just the country but the globe. So it’s a matter of, ‘when will I be then for sure.’ We’ve got a handful of those situations, but we do some pretty fun interactive things that we’re working with the guys over at All In and I think if some of that comes to fruition, it will be one heck of a surprise.”

Starrcast: Fun, Interactive & Something For Everybody

Conrad: “We’ve got tons of guests, tons of fun interactive things. But the big thing is, it’s a 4-day event. There’s something for everybody. If you’re not really a fan of the current product, I get it. You’ve got something for everybody with the old school podcasts. Guys like Terry Funk, guys like Jerry Lawler. They’re going to sit down and watch their empty arena match and do alternate commentary. For the first time ever, it’s just a good look at their decades and decades-long feud. But also too, we’ve got the same thing for WarGames with JJ Dillon, Tully Blanchard, Lex Luger, Road Warrior Animal, all your favorites, plus an nWo reunion, a Death of WCW panel, WrestleCrap, there’s literally something for everybody.

But – if you’re a fan of The Elite, this is your chance to meet the guys and interact with them and we’ve got some really fun stuff that we’re going to roll out over the next few days. It’s interactive and it’s for all ages and you can get in for General Admission for just $20. But if you want the whole kit and caboodle, 4 days, Thursday-Sunday, it’s only $179. You can’t beat that.”

Ronda Rousey vs. Nia Jax Official For Money In The Bank

Nia Jax is ready to give Ronda Rousey real welcome to the WWE – by giving her a title shot.

On Monday as part of the NBC upfront presentations that included the WWE, Jax revealed that she will face Rousey at the upcoming Money in the Bank pay-per-view event on June 17.

The two superstars were actually next to each other on the red carpet during the presentation where the revelation was made that Jax challenged Rousey to a match in June.

“We are very civil and professional ladies, so Nia did just challenge me for Money in the Bank to come after her title,” Rousey told E! News on Monday. “I happily oblige respectfully, so I can sit next to her.

“We’re professionals, so when we get in there, there’s a job to be done. We’re outside of the ring, then we can still be respectful to each other. We all have the same goals. We’re all trying to lift the women’s division and to show people that we have more to offer than they’ve given us credit for in the past.”

Jax doubled down in the respect shared with Rousey when they’re both in public but she promises that will all change once they step into the ring together at Money in the Bank.

“We can still get along for now, but once we get in the ring, it’s over. All bets are off, right?” Jax added.

“I’ve never been in a ring with somebody like Ronda. She’s one of a kind, so there definitely has to be an alternation to my regimen and I’m looking forward to it.”

WWE later confirmed the matchup as Rousey will face Jax for the RAW women’s title in June.

It’s been an incredibly fast rise for Rousey after signing to join WWE earlier this year after giving up her previous career in mixed martial arts. Rousey shined in a mix-tag team match at WrestleMania 34 where she teamed with RAW general manager Kurt Angle in a bout against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon.

After the show was over, the match was hailed as the best for the entire event despite Rousey’s relative naivety when it comes to professional wrestling.

Now it appears WWE is looking to push Rousey directly into title contention without having a single’s match on her resume.

WWE Money in the Bank goes down on June 17 from the Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois.

What do you think about Ronda Rousey getting a title shot against Nia Jax at Money in the Bank? Sound off in the comments to let us know!

John Cena Says He Wants To Marry Nikki Bella & Have Kids Together (Video)

John Cena appeared on NBC’s Today show on Monday morning and dropped some bombshells regarding his recent break-up with fiancee Nikki Bella.

During the interview, Cena revealed his heart was “broken out of nowhere” when Nikki ended their engagement. Despite photos circulating online of Cena apparently enjoying the single life, Cena says that is simply not the case and he’s heartbroken.

“I love her. I want to be with her. I want to make her my wife. I want to be the father of her children. I just want us to work.”

Cena feels that Nikki might need time to figure out what she wants. There was a long period of time that he didn’t want children, but he’s a changed man. He said he is honored by the time he had with her and that they still speak and he really hopes things will get resolved.  He said he was never in love before her and he still loves her.

The MLW Fusion Report: May 11, 2018

I was excited because I didn’t have anything to do this past Friday night, so I could watch MLW Fusion live instead of recording it like I usually do. Imagine my surprise when I turned on beIN Sports at 8:00 and saw a bunch of studio analysts talking about that most un-American of games, soccer. How dare they preempt my favorite fake sport with my least favorite fake sport?!

Luckily, it was only a 15-minute delay. All is right with the world.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfhF-BHvpIs&t=823s

We open up with a video package hyping the show’s main event, Jimmy Havoc vs. Joey Janela. They play clips of hardcore wrestling by the two competitors and just like last week, I’m subjected to watching Havoc lick his lips at the thought of licking Janela’s blood. I’m uncomfortable again and there’s still 59 minutes left.

Tony Schiavone and Rich Bocchini welcome us to the show. They recap the events that took place between MVP and Sami Callihan and between Tom Lawlor and ACH from last week’s show. The cameras follow Shane Strickland as he enters the arena.

“Filthy” Tom Lawlor vs. ACH

As Lawlor makes his way to the ring, we get an ACH promo where he calls Team Filthy “Mixed Martial Asshats.” Sick burn, bro.

ACH makes his way to the ring next. He’s announced as originally being from Planet Vegeta, which Schiavone informs us is a reference to Dragonball Z. I thought ring announcer Tim Barr said Planet Fajita. Now I’m hungry.

Tom Lawlor takes his mouthguard out of his trunks and puts it in his mouth. I have no words.

Lawlor starts with a double leg takedown into the corner. He’s trying to keep ACH grounded and prevent his aerial attack. He gives ACH a kick to the back and then decides to give him a free shot. Lawlor sits down awaiting a kick in the back. ACH strikes and somehow hurts himself.

ACH ends up on his butt. Lawlor goes to kick ACH in the back again but it’s a psych out and goes for a choke instead. ACH quickly makes it to the ropes.

Lawlor ends up on his back and challenges ACH to come after him. ACH charges but gets tripped up. However, Lawlor ends up in a pinning combination but kicks out. A few more pin attempts by ACH follows. He realizes they aren’t working and hits a double front leg dropkick instead. They head to the outside and we go to commercial.

When the show returns, Schiavone is mid-sentence, saying “And that enabled Lawlor to open up this offense.” What did?! We have absolutely no context for this statement, which MLW keeps doing over and over again. It really bothers me. I understand the show is not live and the announcers are not calling the match in some studio during post-production, but it just sounds stupid to have the broadcasters talking about something that happened during commercial without any explanation for those of us not in the arena.

Anyway, Lawlor is in charge now and hits a jumping back elbow. He mounts ACH and rains down punches like it’s the octagon and he’s trying to get the ref to stop the fight. A cross armbreaker attempt is blocked by ACH. He gets to his feet and hits a hip toss but Lawlor comes back with a kick to the chest. Lawlor tries another submission with a front facelock. The ref checks for a choke. After another submission is applied, ACH goes for a pin. Lawlor kicks out and executes a vertical suplex followed by a wrist lock submission into what looks to be a Million Dollar Dream.

ACH makes it to his feet and gets backdropped but he lands on his feet. After some leapfrogs, ACH sweeps Lawlor’s leg and hits a basement dropkick. Lawlor is thrown into the ropes but holds on to them. ACH charges and is backdropped to the apron. ACH lands on his feet. He gets a shoulder into Lawlor’s gut, lands an enzuigiri, springboards off the middle rope, and crushes Lawlor with a reverse STO. The fans start an “ACH” chant.

ACH chops Lawlor in the corner and Irish whips him. He hits a running forearm smash and comes off the ropes, only to be met by a jumping forearm smash from Lawlor. Lawlor tries the same move again but is caught and pays with a backbreaker/bridging suplex combo, which only gets a two count. ACH lifts his opponent up in an electric chair position, but Lawlor escapes and kicks ACH’s leg out from under him. Lawlor tries some rolling Germans but ACH elbows out after the first one.

Lawlor stops ACH’s momentum with a chinlock, which the announcers call a choke and treat it like a serious submission maneuver. I guess it is because ACH looks like he’s going to pass out. The ref raises ACH’s hand twice. On the third lift, ACH’s hand stays up. He gets up and pushes off the corner with his feet, falling backwards and pinning Lawlor the same way that Bret Hart pinned Roddy Piper at WrestleMania VIII. I love that pin. This time, though, it only gets two.

Lawlor keeps the choke locked on but ACH manages to victory roll Lawlor and land on him with a standing frogsplash. Again, the pin only gets two. Simon Gotch stands on the apron to distract the ref. Lawlor takes off the protective padding from his left arm that covers the steel rod and bolts that were used repair his injury. He channels his inner Lex Luger and knocks ACH out with the unprotected limb. The Filthy One immediately gets the choke on ACH, who the ref sees is on dream street and calls for the bell.

Winner- “Filthy” Tom Lawlor

Bocchini informs us of an incident that happened backstage. The cameras show Shane Strickland confronting Pentagon’s manager, Salina de la Renta. He takes issue with the morbid shrine that was put in his dressing room “a little bit ago,” which makes it sound like it happened an hour ago ago, not last week. Pentagon comes from behind Swerve. They stare at each other for a few seconds before Pentagon spits red mist into the champ’s eyes. Pentagon definitely telegraphed that mist spot. In reality, Swerve could have avoided the mist easily, but this isn’t reality, so he gets blinded. Renta and Penta (that’s my cute name for these two) walk away and Swerve writhes around on the ground in pain.

After a commercial, we see Strickland being aided by two officials in the back as he stands over a sink, throwing water in his eyes to try and regain his sight.

Maxwell J. Friedman vs. Fred Yehi

EC3 makes his way to the ring. Wait. Nope. That’s Maxwell J. Friedman, who I find out is from Plainview, NY, not too far from me. Not that you, the reader, should care. A fan gives him the finger and he could care less. The camera focuses on some bald guy standing and giving Freidman a glove clap. I thought he was his manager but I think it’s just a big Maxwell J. Friedman fan.

Fred Yehi comes out next. I don’t think anybody knows how to say this guy’s last name. Throughout the course of this match, his name will be pronounced “yeah-high,” “yee-haw,” and “yah-ha.” Why don’t we just replace the “h” with a “t” and call him a Yeti?

Friedman runs his mouth to start the match. We get some chain wrestling before Friedman escapes to the outside. He comes back in and wants to shake hands. Schiavone calls him a “punk.” I adore Schiavone insults.

Yehi doesn’t take the handshake. After some back and forth, Friedman falls to his stomach and expects Yehi to hop over him, but gets his hand stomped instead. Friedman wants another handshake but Yehi slaps it away. Freidman kicks him in the gut but Yehi returns with a flurry of offense.

Friedman ends up lying on the apron and calls for a time out. Yehi reaches over and grabs Friedman, but the spoiled rich kid clotheslines Yehi’s left arm over the top rope. He hits a springboard codebreaker on the arm and works it over further with some armbars. Yehi escapes the last armbar with chops and headbutts. Friedman tries to grab the armbar again, but Yehi uses more chops followed by a double stomp and a basement dropkick. Friedman falls victim to some quick knee lifts. Then, in a pretty cool spot, Yehi grabs Friedman’s arms, falls to his back, and lays in some rapid-fire boots to his opponent’s chest. A dragon suplex only gets two.

Friedman begs off in the corner but Yehi stomps on him relentlessly. Yehi goes to charge at Friedman but Friedman pulls the ref in front of him. Yehi pulls the ref out of the way. Friedman takes advantage of the ref’s temporary inattentiveness and pokes Yehi in the eye. He hops to the second rope and double stomps the worn down left arm, giving him the opportunity to roll up Yehi with a handful of trunks for the three count.

Winner- EC-damn it!-Maxwell J. Friedman

Andrea Ocampo meets Friedman at the top of the aisle. Friedman demands that a fan he calls “tubby” give him his chair. He has a seat after a hard-fought victory and starts insulting the crowd, telling them they probably don’t know who he is because they don’t have internet. He introduces himself and says he feels bad for Fred because he won’t be able to use the winner’s purse for his next three trips to Golden Corral. Fred seems pretty thin to me. I don’t think he’s going to Golden Corral. Friedman continues by lamenting that he’s jealous of the fans because they don’t know what it’s like to be him. He goes home to a perfect 10 that’s hard to deal with (Tye Dillenger?) and has a subpar limo driver, but it’s his cross to bear. He ends by saying he’s better than everyone and thanks Ocampo, noting that it’s hard to find good help these days.

One more commercial break airs before we get a video package showing what happened between Sami Callihan and MVP, followed by a backstage interview with Callihan. He proclaims that he talks when he wants to and calls himself a machine gun of an enigma. What? That weird description aside, he said he’s creating an army of like minded individuals. The mystery man that helped him beat MVP last week appears. Callihan says his army won’t just take over wrestling but will also take over everything. That’s vague. He and mystery man give the “thumbs up, thumbs down” gesture. I wonder if he was inspired by Batista.

We get footage of a press conference held by Court Bauer announcing that MLW will be in NYC on July 19. Hmm, maybe yours truly will have to go.

After a recap of Pentagon hocking a big, red, blindness causing loogy in Shane Strickland’s eyes, the announcers inform us that Pentagon is being forced to put his #1 contender spot on the line against Rey Fenix next week. Yes! If spitting mist into someone’s eyes means we get another Pentagon/Fenix match, then I hope the whole roster goes blind.

Jimmy Havoc vs. Joey Janela w/ Aria Blake in a Bogus Adventure Match.

It’s main event time. Schiavone says that a Bogus Adventure Match is the “ultimate mystery match.” We don’t know what kind of weapons will be used.

Both men try to bicycle kick each other twice. Havoc is sent to the outside, where Janela connects with a suicide dive through the ropes. Havoc gets control of the match and tries a suicide dive of his own but Janela throws a chair at him. He continues the punishment with a suplex onto another chair!

Back in the ring, Janela gets a two count. He hits a basement dropkick. Havoc answers back with some elbows. They go at each other with dueling chops. Janela goes to the top rope and misses a moonsault. Havoc throws him with a half nelson driver and a sit-out scoop slam. He goes to the outside and pulls…a door out from under the ring. I guess this is one of the mystery weapons. Bocchini is perplexed by the presence of the door and Schiavone responds by asking “Isn’t there always a door under the ring?” Tony, you should remember. Back in the WCW days, [Ultimate] Warrior demanded that a door be installed IN the ring so that he could disappear and mess with Hollywood Hogan’s head. The only thing it really messed with was the British Bulldog’s back when he got slammed into it.

Havoc sets up the door in the door. Janela attacks him and wraps a chair around his neck. He puts Havoc into position and jumps off the second rope with a back elbow, causing Havoc to fall into another chair. It’s not enough to keep Havoc down as he answers back with a discus clothesline and a pump handle slam on a chair for a two count.

Havoc smacks a chair over Janela’s back. My wife, who was watching this with me, saw the way Janela sold the chair shot and just said “bad acting.” My wife, everybody.

Havoc jabs Janela in the stomach with the chair and hits some elbows. He sits Janela in a chair in the corner and goes for a monkey flip, which fails. It looked like a botch but Janela wisely gets up quickly and sends Havoc to the mat with a vertical suplex. He lays a chair on top of Havoc, goes to the top rope, and Swanton Bombs Havoc. I don’t know who that hurt more.

Janela slides some chairs into the ring, causing them to hit Havoc. He also pulls out a table. Back in the ring, Janela hits Havoc over the back with a chair, but Havoc comes back by smashing a chair over Janela’s head. He gets the Bad Boy up in a fireman’s carry but he escapes and drives Havoc’s head into a pile of chairs with a package piledriver. He lays Havoc on the table and attempts to send him through it with a senton, but Havoc moves. Janela crashes through the table, gets up, and is sent through the door by Havoc with a running double front leg dropkick. Havoc continues the onslaught with a Death Valley Driver on the chairs and finally the Acid Rainmaker for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Jimmy Havoc

The cameras follow Havoc up the aisle and into the back. Oh, you know something bad’s about to happen here. Havoc exits the arena holding his head and bumps into Tom Lawlor. This is too much for Lawlor to bear. Team Filthy beats up Havoc and leaves him lying on the ground in agony. Lawlor whines that Havoc got blood on his outfit. The last shot shows Havoc on the ground with a look on his face that says “I’m in pain and pissed off.” If there were a crowd of wrestling fans outside, they’d be chanting that Lawlor just “f—ed up!”

Final Thoughts

On an episode “Something to Wrestle with Bruce Prichard” that I recently listened to, Conrad Thompson and Prichard commented that there really are no more original ideas in wrestling because everything’s been done. That’s not a bad thing. Go with what works- just don’t do it all the time. I mention this because I liked the way the Lawlor/ACH match ended. Using an injury as a secret weapon has been an effective wrestling trope and I’m glad that a scumbag heel like Lawlor is using it.

Maxwell J. Friedman was good in the ring but he really shined on the mic. Yeah, he has a similar look and gimmick to EC3, but he was still entertaining.

Here’s what I know about Sami Callihan: he had a cup of coffee in NXT, he almost took out Eddie Edward’s eye, and his promos annoy me. I don’t like this man.

The Bogus Adventure Match was fun. I thought there’d be more surprise weapons but whatever. There was constant back and forth action and little to no stalling- and nobody licked anybody else’s blood! That’s an automatic five-star rating from me!

I suppose Lawlor’s attack on Havoc means that Havoc is a face now. It makes sense. He seems like the kind of heel that fans want to cheer.

Did I mention that I was excited by another Pentagon/Fenix main event? Well, I am.

That’s it for this week. Hopefully, that game that the United States is really bad at doesn’t interrupt my sports-entertainment next Friday.

Have a good week!

Charlotte Loses Teeth At WWE Live Event (Video)

It’s not easy being the queen. Charlotte Flair is going to require dental surgery after an incident that took place at Thursday’s WWE live event from Oberhausen, Germany.

Charlotte wrestled SmackDown Women’s champion Carmella on the show. The match ended abruptly when Carmella got disqualified for refusing the back off when the referee was breaking up her attack in the corner.

A video has surfaced of a fan trying to get a photo with Charlotte after the match, but Charlotte covers her mouth and tells the fan, “I can’t take a pic, I lost my teeth.” (Video below).

This won’t be Charlotte’s first time visiting the oral surgeon this year, as she underwent dental surgery back in March for a mouth infection.

As noted earlier this week, she’s expected to undergo surgery after WWE’s European to repair a ruptured breast implant.

The Miz: ‘The WWE Championship Should Main Event Every PPV’

The Superstar Shake-Up sent The Miz to SmackDown Live without Curtis Axel and Bo Dallas, but he brought something far more important: a plan.

The 8-time Intercontinental Champion made it no secret that he wanted to elevate that title to its former glory. You’d be hard pressed to argue that he did anything but exactly that. He now plans to do the same for the WWE Championship. Despite being held by one of the top wrestlers in the world, the sport’s richest prize rarely headlines WWE pay-per-view events. In an interview with Sports Illustrated, The Miz declared,

“My goal is to make the WWE championship as relevant and prestigious as it should be.”

He was quick to clarify that he believes AJ Styles is doing a “terrific job” as WWE Champion. However, the WWE Championship match did not headline WrestleMania, Greatest Royal Rumble or Backlash. That fact bothers a lot of people – Miz included.

“That WWE championship should be in the main event of every single WWE pay per view,” said Miz. “It upsets me when I see that it is not.”

This past week on SmackDown Live, The Miz defeated United States Champion Jeff Hardy in a Money in the Bank qualifying match. He, along with Braun Strowman, Finn Balor, Rusev and 4 more opponents TBA, will battle at Money in the Bank (6/17) to earn the coveted MITB contract. The Miz sees this match as the perfect opportunity to advance his goal.

“My goal is to not only win the Money in the Bank contract, cash it in and become WWE champion,” he said. “I want to put that title back where it belongs: the main event.”

These comments from The Miz preview a full-feature article that’s set to publish at SI.com this Friday.

Do you think the perception of the WWE Championship is damaged by it now headlining pay-per-view events?

John Cena Animated Series “Dallas and Robo” Premieres 5/30

Dalla and Robo, the new YouTube Red animated series starring John Cena and Kat Dennings, will premiere on May 30th.

The 8-episode series will be available on WWE’s popular YouTube channel and is produced by ShadowMachine (BoJack Horseman, Robot Chicken).

“Dallas & Robo” is a buddy comedy centered on sassy space-trucker “Dallas” (Kat Dennings) and self-proclaimed warrior-poet “Robo” (John Cena) who must navigate their way around cannibal bikers, rival space truckers, and vending machine burritos as they try to make a buck in the seedy world of interplanetary big-rigging.

In a press release sent out last summer, Cena said, “I’m thrilled to join Kat and the rest of this fantastic voice cast for Dallas & Robo. The writing for this series is flat-out funny and very creative, and I’m really looking forward to being a part of such a unique, entertaining project.”

Susanne Daniels, YouTube’s Global Head of Original Content, said, “With Kat Dennings and John Cena bringing these animated characters to life, I have no doubt viewers are going to have fun watching this imaginative, new outer space comedy from Shadowmachine.”

Rey Mysterio On Wanting to Work With Cody Rhodes In New Japan, Best High-Flyer In The World

Wrestling legend Rey Mysterio Jr. was Sean Waltman’s guest on this week’s edition of the X-PAC 1-2-360 podcast. You can Subscribe on iTunes and listen to audio of the full show at the bottom of this article.

During the broadcast, Waltman paid his respects to former WWE Superstar Nick “Big Bully” Busick, who passed away this week. Waltman knew Busick for their days together in Dallas wrestling for GWF. He called Busick a wonderful human being, a tough SOB and someone that had the respect of everyone due to the way he treated others.

Rey Mysterio joined the show and spoke about a number of interesting topic, including his son Dominic’s journey to follow in his footsteps, wanting to work with Cody Rhodes outside of WWE and more.

Here are some highlights sent in by the show’s producers:

Rey Mysterio On The Best High-Flyer In The World Right Now

“Oh, you got me there. I want to say, I guess this answer’s fair because they’re from different countries so I’m going to do one from each country. Mexico Rey Fenix, US Ricochet, and UK Ospreay. I would love to see them in a three-way.”

Wanting To Work With Cody Rhodes:

“I actually do hope to work with him and meet outside of the WWE, I think after you’ve been in the WWE and you know what the grind is like and at some point you feel that it’s not for you and you need a break, you need to speak up, be heard. And I think that’s what he did…but now he’s pretty much doing what he loves, he’s still wrestling.

He’s working with I’d say one of the biggest companies in Japan that is starting to make a big impact here in the U.S as well, but I truly hope to see him in the ring one day for New Japan.”

His Son Dominic’s Future In Pro Wrestling

“I’m very happy and honored to pass the torch on to my son, who’s actually training right now. He’s moving along with his training and there’s nothing that excites me and makes me feel proud as to what my son is doing right now, following in my footsteps. Being in the business as hard as it is and as rough as it is…you obviously hope that your kid would follow in your footsteps one day. And that day came about two and half years ago with my son. He’s actually doing a good job, going through his training phases. He started in Tampa last year with Jay Lethal…he’s back home now and in September he goes up to Canada to train with Lance Storm.

He hasn’t had a match, it’s funny how promoters book me and at the end of the conversation they’ll just throw out ‘Hey if you want to bring your son out here, if he wants to come out, we’ll take care of him.’ and I’m like nah he’s not ready yet. I’ll be the first to say he’s definitely not ready. He’s in the learning process but overall I have this mentality on how I want to prepare him to better than his old man, cause I know he will be, I am that positive that he’s gonna be better than his old man. And I wanna take him around and learn from different camps.

I wanna get him into a New Japan camp, they just opened in LA. Get him into Booker T’s school and I might even send him to Japan for a couple months. Hopefully within the next year and a half if he’s ready, I’ll be the last to take care of him. I’ll just finish it up and polish him to be ready to go.

Update On Charlotte Undergoing Surgery, When She Was Injured

As noted earlier this week, Charlotte Flair will be undergoing surgery soon to repair a ruptured breast implant. The 5-time WWE Women’s Champion is currently overseas for WWE’s European tour and is expected to have the procedure after she gets back to the United States later this month.

Timeline of Charlotte’s Injury & Surgery

The latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter provides exclusive details regarding the situation. Charlotte kept the injury a secret from most people up until this week.

Charlotte’s implant ruptured before WrestleMania 34. Initially, she decided to hold off on the surgery because she wanted to work WrestleMania 34 against Asuka. When WWE decided to put the SmackDown Women’s Championship on Carmella, Charlotte was asked to work against Carmella at Backlash.

Charlotte decided to put the surgery off until after the European tour, which is lucrative for the performers. The surgery will happen later this month, as Charlotte wants to be 100% in time for SummerSlam.

As of this writing, Charlotte is advertised to compete at Money in the Bank. The Observer report notes that she’s only expected to miss “a few weeks” – but her recovery schedule will dictate that.

Charlotte in ESPN’s The Body Issue

She recently did a photo shoot for ESPN magazine’s annual “The Body Issue” – which depicts athletes nude and semi-nude – and they were able to ‘shoot around’ the injured part of her body.

The 2017 edition of ESPN’s The Body Issue was released in the first week of July, so expect a similar early-summer release for this year’s installment.

WWE Superstar Ronda Rousey posted for The Body Issue back in 2012.

Report: Charlotte Undergoing Surgery

Charlotte is scheduled to undergo surgery soon to correct a ruptured breast implant, according to Bleacher Report.

The former SmackDown women’s champion competed on this week’s show, defeating Peyton Royce in a match to qualify for the upcoming Women’s Money in the Bank ladder match.

At this time, it’s unclear whether or not she will be medically cleared in time for the June 17th pay-per-view.

Charlotte is scheduled to head overseas for WWE’s European tour, which kicks off Thursday and runs through May 20. PWInsider speculates that Charlotte will wait until after the tour to undergo the procedure.

Charlotte had been scheduled to appear at the ACE Comic Con event on June 22nd in Seattle, but she’s been pulled from that appearance. Lucha Underground Season 4 Extended Trailer

ESPN has published a full preview for the upcoming fourth season of Lucha Underground. The 22-episode fourth season premieres Wednesday, June 13th on the El Rey Network.

The ESPN features a first look at the Lucha Underground Season 4 Extended Trailer, which will air during tonight’s “Season 3 Greatest Hits” episode.

Filming Season 4

Lucha Underground head writer and co-executive producer Chris DeJoseph explained to ESPN that they’re taking a new approach with season 4.

“When we were doing [Seasons] 2 and 3, we finished two and then we went right into three. Here, we’re trying to tell as many stories as possible but in a shorter period of time. It’s obviously a little bit different, but I think sometimes it’s good because we put the pedal to the metal and go for it.”

Season 4 began filming in February, a full year later than originally planned. They shot the entire season in a month, a much faster shooting schedule than previous reasons.

“It was really hard, really stressful. Really hard on everybody,” DeJoseph admitted. “It was a really crazy ride doing it that fast and doing that many [episodes], but we all stuck together, hung in there, and pushed through it. There’s a lot of late nights and a lot of hours worked, but in the end I think the show will prove once again ‘Lucha Underground’ separates itself from anything else that’s out there.”

The New Temple

In addition to the new faces joining the cast of Lucha Underground, the show was filmed from an a different location. Departing from the warehouse in Boyle Heights that hosted the first three seasons, the new episodes will take place from an old icehouse in downtown Los Angeles across the river the old warehouse. Just as the original Temple was an integral part of the Lucha Underground universe, DeJoseph says the location change will be part of the storyline of season 4.

“[Switching locations] gave us a lot of new things to play with,” DeJoseph said. “It will play out over the storyline — there’s a reason why “The Temple” has been moved to this particular location. It’s a really great set. You’ll see some of the cool sets and the things we were able to do that we weren’t even able to do at our last location.”

Visit ESPN to read the full article, including DeJoseph talking about Prince Puma and Rey Mysterio leaving the cast, new talent like Jack Swagger and Tommy Dreamer joining the show and much more.
