Conan O’Brien Becomes The Rock’s “Rampage” Stunt Double (Video)

WWE legend Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson appeared on Conan O’Brien’s talk show this week to promote his new movie Rampage, which hits theaters April 13th.

Based on the 1980’s arcade video game from Midway Games, Rampage is about three giant monsters (a gorilla, a wolf and a lizard) that wreak havoc on various cities and landmarks across the United States. The official synopsis reads,

“Primatologist Davis Okoye shares an unshakable bond with George, an extraordinarily intelligent, silverback gorilla that’s been in his care since birth. When a rogue genetic experiment goes wrong, it causes George, a wolf and a reptile to grow to a monstrous size. As the mutated beasts embark on a path of destruction, Okoye teams up with a discredited genetic engineer and the military to secure an antidote and prevent a global catastrophe.”

As seen below, Conan slips on a bald cap and proves to Dwayne Johnson that he has the looks, physique, and acting chops to be The Rock’s “Rampage” stunt double.

‘The Miz’ Hopes CM Punk Does Well in His Second UFC Fight in June

A pro wrestling beef that reportedly goes back nearly seven years doesn’t mean that ‘The Miz’ wishes any ill will on former WWE superstar CM Punk as he prepares for his second fight in the UFC.

Several years ago, ‘The Miz’ (real name Mike Mizanin) and CM Punk (real name Phil Brooks) were engaged in a reported backstage feud regarding how WWE was booking each of them and it led to some back and forth comments in various interviews.

Then back in 2016, Punk made his UFC debut after leaving WWE and he was submitted by Mickey Gall in the opening round of their fight. The next night as part of the “Elimination Chamber” pay-per-view, The Miz and Dolph Ziggler choreographed an almost identical set of moves in their match that mimicked — or mocked — Punk’s UFC performance.

Well if there was any ill will shared between them, The Miz is no longer holding any grudges after he was asked about Punk’s recent message where he seemed to reveal that his second UFC fight will take place in Chicago on June 9.

“I wouldn’t say that because the guy was going after a dream,” The Miz told TMZ when asked about Punk. “He always wanted to do that and whenever you go after a dream, why smash on it? He’s going to do his best, he’s going to try his hardest and I imagine he’s training his heart out to do the best he can in the Octagon. I hope he does well.”

As far as Punk’s chances to win in his second UFC fight, the Miz says that really comes down to who he’s facing and what kind of challenge he might receive inside the Octagon.

The Miz only knows one thing for certain — anything Punk is doing is for himself and not as a response to the haters who continuously jab at him over social media.

“I don’t think CM Punk is the type of person to really look into that. If you come from WWE, you have a thick skin because you’re hated on all day, everyday,” The Miz said. “This is just the norm for him.”

Shane McMahon Steps Down As SmackDown Commissioner

Shane McMahon is taking an indefinite leave of absence as the Commissioner of SmackDown Live. He had served as commissioner since the brand split was announced back in 2016.

The announcement was made during the final segment of Tuesday’s episode. Shane said that over the past several months, he’s taken actions unbecoming of his position while attempting to contain Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn. SmackDown GM Daniel Bryan will be back next week, but for now, he’ll be running the show by himself.

Shane also announced that Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn will be squaring off in singles competition at WrestleMania.

Shortly after revealing that he’s stepping away from his post, Owens and Zayn unleashed a vicious assault on their (now former) boss.

Shane stepping away as the boss of SmackDown Live paves the way for him to physically get revenge against Zayn and Owens at WrestleMania. We’ll see how this one plays out in the coming weeks, but you can be sure we haven’t seen the last of Shane ‘o Mac on Smackdown.

RAW Viewership Up This Week (3/12)

Monday’s edition of WWE RAW averaged 3,352,000 viewers, a healthy increase from 3,099,000 the previous week.

Here’s the hourly viewership data, courtesy of ShowbuzzDaily:

  • Hour 1: 3,351,000
  • Hour 2: 3,429,000
  • Hour 3: 3,275,000

Overall, it was a strong showing for WWE. RAW viewership has been above 3 million viewers every week since January 15th. Aside from the RAW 25th Anniversary special back in January, the 3.275 million viewership for Hour 3 was the most-watched final hour of RAW since the night after WrestleMania 33.

RAW featured Vince McMahon ‘suspending’ Roman Reigns, John Cena once again challenging The Undertaker to a match at WrestleMania, Seth Rollins and Finn Balor in singles action, Braun Strowman winning a tag team battle royal to earn a shot against RAW tag team champions The Bar at WrestleMania.

WWE is hyping the Ultimate Deletion match between Broken Matt and Bray Wyatt next week, so expect to see RAW’s momentum continue.

Mick Foley Pushing For Vader & Chyna WWE HOF Inductions

The 2018 WWE Hall of Fame induction ceremony is less than a month away. This year’s class will include Goldberg, the Dudley Boyz, Ivory, Jeff Jarrett, Hillbilly Jim and Kid Rock.

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley appeared on the Busted Open radio show this week and spoke about two legends he feels belong in the Hall of Fame.

Foley, who was inducted back in 2013, told hosts Dave LaGreca & Tommy Dreamer that he wants to see longtime rival and former WCW world champion Vader immortalized.

“Leon was so dominant not just in WCW, I mean he’ll be the first to tell you, if he came in during the attitude era in WWE he would have been amazing,” he said. “They had him from the get-go running away from people. I remember driving with him and he would be like ‘I’m Vader and running away from people!’. Where as I was given open reign to do whatever I wanted with my character, he just seemed to have so many people in his ear to tell him how to be Vader, when he’s done it successfully all over the world…. I think when you take into account everything he’s accomplished in WCW, NJPW, Mexico and in Germany and Europe.”

Mick Foley said he’d also like to see fellow Attitude Era performer Chyna in the WWE Hall of Fame. Chyna has been persona non grata in the WWE Universe over the past several years, with Triple H famously stating that she’s an unlikely candidate because, ‘what would the children think if they Googled her?’ WWE has softened its stance on Chyna lately, including her in video packages and Triple H and Stephanie McMahon even mentioning her on WWE television in recent months. Foley feels it’s time to honor formally honor the late 9th Wonder of the World.

“I also really like just the fact that Chyna is being mentioned and she’s being shown in clips. I would love to see her in. I know how much it would mean to her mom. I tell people you can’t let that one decision dictate if your career was a success. I didn’t wander around wondering if my career had meant anything because I wasn’t in the hall of fame, but it is a big deal.”

Kid Rock To Be Inducted Into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2018

Kid Rock will officially join the WWE Hall of Fame after being announced as the celebrity inductee for the 2018 class.

WWE announced the news on Monday via Billboard with Kid Rock being the latest member of the 2018 class that also includes Goldberg, the Dudley Boyz, Jeff Jarrett, Ivory and Hillbilly Jim with the induction ceremony taking place on Friday, April 6 during WrestleMania 34 weekend in New Orleans.

“Every time I go to a WWE event I always have a good time; there is nothing like it and no better fans in the world,” Kid Rock said about his induction. “The Hall of Fame ceremony will be a fun night and it will be great to see everyone again. I have so much respect for what those guys and girls do.

“I’m grateful to WWE for letting me be a part of WrestleMania weekend.”

Kid Rock has been a mainstay with WWE after performing at WrestleMania 25 as well as also making an appearance at a WWE Tribute for the Troops show in 2012.

Kid Rock also famously had his song “American Bad Ass” serve as the entrance music for The Undertaker during his stint where he was portrayed as an outlaw biker during part of his career with WWE. Kid Rock’s music was also used for Stacy Kiebler while she was performing in WWE as well.

Kid Rock is the latest celebrity inductee for the WWE Hall of Fame where he joins past recipients such as Snoop Dogg, Mike Tyson, and President Donald Trump.

Kid Rock will appear alongside the rest of the inductees at the ceremony on Friday, April 6 ahead of WrestleMania 34. There’s no word yet if Kid Rock will also perform that weekend.

RAW Preview (3/12): Road To WrestleMania Continues

The road to WrestleMania continues as Monday Night Raw rolls into Detroit, Michigan. The following items are being advertised for tonight’s show from the Little Cesars Arena:

– WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar will be on hand to face off with Roman Reigns. WWE is billing Lesnar as the “entitled” Universal Champion, which reinforces how the Beast is being portrayed in this feud.

– Can Bayley and Sasha Banks mend their fractured friendship?

– Braun Strowman is the “Maestro Among Monsters” – whatever that means.

– Will Ronda Rousey regret putting her hands on Stephanie McMahon?

WWE is also teasing when “The Ultimate Deletion” take place. With Jeff Hardy being arrested over the weekend, it will be interesting to see if WWE airs the original footage as intended or if reshoots are required to delete Brother Nero.

(Spoilers) Full Card For NXT Takeover: New Orleans

The card for NXT Takeover: New Orleans during WrestleMania weekend has been finalized. Takeover is shaping up to be a “show of the weekend” contender, especially with the accidental confirmation of one of the top matches on the card.

Over the weekend, WWE inadvertently posted the full match listing on Facebook. One of the contests, perhaps the one fans are most looking forward to, has yet to be announced by the company. The Facebook post was deleted, but it didn’t take long for fans to notice an “unsanctioned” match between Johnny Gargano vs. Tomasso Ciampa on the list.

Gargano and Ciampa have been feuding since Ciampa turned on his former parter last May back at NXT Takeover: Chicago. Ciampa had been working through an injury that ultimately required surgery to repair an ACL tear. Ciampa has been taunting Gargano ever since and even made a few surprise appearances since to deliver beatdowns on his former partner.

With that match set, here’s the final card for NXT Takeover: New Orleans on Saturday night, April 7th.

NXT Championship Match
Andrade Cien Almas (c) vs Aleister Black

Unsanctioned match
Johnny Gargano vs. Tomasso Ciampa

NXT Women’s Championship Match
Ember Moon (c) vs Shayna Baszler

NXT Tag Team Championship
Undisputed Era (Kyle O’Reilly and Adam Cole, subbing for the injured Bobby Fish) (c) vs. Roderick Strong & WWE UK Champion Pete Dunne vs. The Authors of Pain

NXT North American Championship Ladder Match
EC3 vs. Killian Dain vs. Lars Sullivan vs. Adam Cole vs. Velveteen Dream vs. Ricochet

AJ Styles Comments on CM Punk Possibly Returning to the WWE

It’s been several years since A.J. Styles crossed paths with CM Punk when both performers were working on the independent circuit before each of them became superstars in the WWE.

Most recently, Styles has become one of the most recognizable names on the WWE roster where he currently reigns as heavyweight champion.

Meanwhile, Punk is still pursuing his second mixed martial arts fight in the UFC after leaving WWE a few years ago after his contract expired while also being locked in a dispute with the company.

While Punk has given no indication that he’d ever return to wrestling much less work with WWE again, it’s tough to ignore the fantasy matchmaking to see him mixing it up with Styles in a pairing that would pit two of the best in the business against each other.

For his part, Styles knows that ultimately money will probably play a part in whether Punk decides to return to wrestling or not but he also knows some burnt bridges can never be rebuilt.

“Money talks but there’s some issues there that I don’t know enough about. A lot of guys [ have had issues] and like I said money talks,” Styles told “Loper and Randi In the Morning” on Friday ahead of his appearance at WWE Fastlane in Columbus, OH.

“But some guys have bigger issues than others. Who knows.”

The ‘bigger issues’ likely references Punk’s ongoing lawsuit with WWE doctor Chris Amann, who sued the former pro wrestler after comments he made about being mistreated by the physician while on the company’s roster.

There have been rumors that the lawsuit will go to trial soon but it’s unknown if that will put an end to the feud between Punk and the WWE or only further escalate it.

Either way it certainly seems fun to think about pairing up Styles and Punk for a match one day in the future.

Would you like to see AJ Styles take on CM Punk in the WWE? Sound off in the comments and let us know.

Update On WWE Introducing Cruiserweight Tag Titles

WWE’s overhaul of 205 Live continues.

As noted earlier, WWE will be introducing a new NXT North American Championship belt at NXT Takeover: New Orleans during WrestleMania weekend. Its now looking like 205 Live will also be getting new gold in the near future.

Last week we reported that WWE was planning to create Cruiserweight tag team titles. Self-proclaimed “Human Belt Encyclopedia” @BeltFanDan has confirmed that Cruiserweight tag titles are indeed on the way – and his sources have confirmed the accuracy of this rending that’s been circulating on social media:

A tournament is currently underway to crown a new Cruiserweight champion, with the finals scheduled to take place at WrestleMania 34. It will be interesting to see if another tournament is held to crown the first ever WWE Cruiserweight tag team champions.

Either way, expect to see more tag team matches on 205 Live in the coming weeks.

John Cena Talks About Possibly Missing WrestleMania, Gronk Joining WWE

John Cena spoke with Sports Illustrated this week about the possibility of becoming a 17-time world champion this Sunday at Fastlane, his relationship with Nickelodeon, potential opponents for WrestleMania 34 and the possibility of NFL star Rob Gronkowski becoming a WWE Superstar when his football career is over.

Cena On Possibly Missing WrestleMania 34

John Cena is without an opponent for WrestleMania. As he continues his quest to be part of the WrestleMania card, he considers the possibility that he might not be part of this year’s event.

“What a great story it would be for me to miss and have to buy a ticket,” Cena posed. “The year doesn’t stop at WrestleMania, we do Raw the next night. Now imagine if this stalwart, this statue of the WWE now has to look inside himself and ask, ‘Do I still have it?’ after being left out of the biggest show of the year.”

It seems unlikely that WWE would leave John Cena off the biggest show of the year, but Cena’s not convinced he’ll be participating on April 8th.

“Don’t put this past Vince,” Cena said cautiously. “Vince is extremely smart, and the reason he is so successful is his ability to see beyond what is immediately in front of him. A two-year or a three-year play would be smart … All things considered, with everything coming out, I wouldn’t mind my contribution to WrestleMania this year being an absence. If that’s my role in the story, I’ll play it.”

Rob Gronkowski Being a “Perfect Fit” For WWE

There’s been a lot of speculation that NFL star Rob Gronkowski could be WWE bound after his days in the NFL come to a close. Cena’s on board with the idea – but hopes Gronk has a few more years left on the New England Patriots.

“If Gronkowski wants to come on board, I think he’d be a perfect fit,” said Cena. “He does not lack in the energy department, so I think he’d be just fine.”

“I’m a fan of the Patriots, so I hope he keeps catching footballs” he added. “He’s really good at that. Hopefully Gronkowski can have a career as long as Tom Brady.”

Bruce Prichard Joins Major League Wrestling

Ahead of tonight’s MLW: Spring Break live event from Orlando, FL at Gilt Nightclub, Sports Illustrated dropped a bombshell: Bruce Prichard has joined Major League Wrestling.

Prichard, perhaps best known to most fans as Brother Love, joins MLW as a Senior Producer. He joins a very talented crew that includes former WWE creative executive Court Bauer, former head of WWE television operations Nelson Sweglar, former head WWE writer Alex Greenfield, former WWE writer Robert Karpeles and Mister Saint Laurent (“MSL”).

“As we rev up the MLW production machine, we continue to seek out the best to elevate the product,” said MLW CEO Court Bauer. “Bruce brings unparalleled experience as a producer and wrestling mind. We are truly building a dream team both backstage and in the ring.”

Bruce Prichard was a longtime member of Vince McMahon’s inner circle and worked behind the scenes at the highest levels for two decades. He currently hosts the wildly popular Something To Wrestle podcast along with Conrad Thompson on the MLW Radio Network.

John Cena Channels His Inner Teenage Girl On The Tonight Show (Video)

WWE Superstar John Cena returned to The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday night for a comedy sketch, “Ew!”

Channeling his inner teenage girl, Cena (playing ‘Addison’) and his BFF Sara practice for dance team auditions and critique Hollywood actors.

Sara (Jimmy Fallon) notices that Addison looks “really different.”

“I had a little bit of a growth spurt,” Addison says, adding in a deeper voice, “My mom says I’m going through some changes.”

Cena is no stranger to comedy acting. In addition to Southpaw Regional Wrestling and various movie roles, he also got rave reviews for his job hosting Saturday Night Live back in December 2016.

Jimmy shows a clip from “Ew!” in which Sara and her friend Addison (John Cena) practice for dance team auditions to Bruno Mars’ “Finesse.”

Spoiler: NXT To Introduce New Championship

It’s official: NXT will be introducing a new championship title at the upcoming Takeover: New Orleans show during WrestleMania weekend.

At Wednesday night’s NXT TV tapings, NXT General Manager William Regal announced the creation of the NXT North American Championship.

The inaugural champion will be decided at Takeover: New Orleans in Six-Man Ladder Match. The participants for that ladder match include Adam Cole, Velveteen Dream, Killian Dain, Lars Sullivan and NXT newcomers Ricochet and EC3.

The North American title will be the NXT brand’s 4th championship. Current titles include the NXT Championship, the NXT Women’s Championship and the NXT Tag Team Championships. In recent years, NXT has evolved from simply a developmental feeder system into a full-fledged touring promotion. The brand features some of the top talent in the world, but there’s only so many performers who can be featured in the NXT Championship hunt. This new ‘secondary’ title gives the rest of NXT’s large roster something else to fight for as they climb the ranks to the main events

NXT TakeOver: New Orleans takes place Saturday night, April 7th and streams live on the WWE Network.

Alexa Bliss Offers Ronda Rousey Advice When It Comes to Her Promos

Ronda Rousey is undoubtedly one of the most gifted athletes in all of sports but that doesn’t mean she’s suddenly going to become one of the most prolific talkers now that she’s part of the WWE roster.

Through her first few appearances in WWE during the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view as well as the past two weeks on Monday Night Raw, it’s been noted that Rousey appears to be very nervous when speaking on the microphone when her segments opposite Stephanie McMahon have taken place.

Rousey was never one to hold her tongue during her UFC career when she was a six-time defending champion but talking to a group of reporters versus thousands of people in attendance in any given arena are two totally different things.

“You have to put yourself in the most uncomfortable situations and make them comfortable.” ~ Alexa Bliss

WWE Raw women’s champion Alexa Bliss offered some advice for Rousey when speaking to ESPN about her struggles on the microphone thus far.

“It took me forever to get comfortable,” Bliss said. “When I first started NXT, we had promo classes, and I used to get so upset because I couldn’t get in front of a crowd and talk. I was terrified. Actually, our referee Shawn Bennett was just talking about my first promo class. I stood up there and started crying because I was really embarrassed to be in front of a large group and speaking.

“I performed in front of large crowds before, but I never had to speak in front of them, so it’s just one of those things you have to keep doing and doing. You have to put yourself in the most uncomfortable situations and make them comfortable.”

Bliss has come a long way for her promos including the huge reaction she received after speaking at Elimination Chamber a couple of weeks ago.

Obviously, WWE is easing Rousey into her new role with the company, which is why she’s being paired alongside a seasoned veteran like Kurt Angle for most of her segments as well as her first match at WrestleMania 34.

Only time will tell if Rousey will get more comfortable on the microphone or she might just become the silent killer who says less and does more.

Rousey will have plenty of time to practice as she’s currently scheduled to appear at every edition of Raw between now and WrestleMania 34 in April.

How would you grade Ronda Rousey in the WWE thus far? Sound off in the comments and let us know

Big Show Update Following Retirement Reports

Big Show posted a cryptic message on Instagram amidst reports that he will not be returning to WWE as an active competitor.

https://www.instagram.com/p/Bf_h_pJFTC2/

During a recent interview with SportingNews, the 7-foot giant spoke about his career winding down and certainly sounded like it was the end of the road for him.

“No last matches, no fanfare, just ride off into the sunset and disappear,” he said. “That’s more my style. I’ll find something else to do that is inspiring—and let these new kids take the business and the reigns and let them build the future.”

Big Show has done it all in WWE since joining the promotion back in 1999. The 4-time WWE Champion recently got himself into the best shape of his career, but has been off television since undergoing back surgery in September 2017.

He told SportingNews, “I’ve had a great career and I’m really thankful for everyone I’ve worked with, but everything comes to an end.”

Do you think we’ll see Big Show back in a WWE ring again?

Jonathan Coachman Issues Statement Responding To Sexual Harassment Allegations

WWE announcer Jonathan Coachman has issued a statement responding to sexual harassment allegations made by former ESPN anchor and legal analyst Adrienne Lawrence.

Click here to read our initial report on Adrienne Lawrence’s claims against ESPN and Coachman.

Coachman issued the following statement on Tuesday morning:

“I will address this only once because I am seething today. In 21 years of being a PROFESSIONAL I have never been more offended in my life. I my 9 years I can count on one hand the amount of times I interacted with anyone other than a co-anchor. To allow someone to spread vicious lies and flat out fabrications is not ok and it’s time someone stood up for themselves. @jemelehill addressed her lie last night. I am not a part of this lawsuit because I have never done anything wrong. My reputation speaks for itself and anyone that has ever worked with me will back that up. I am also offended that someone can dangerously throw peoples names into something for the clear attempt at getting headlines. This the only time I will address this because I am not a part of this lawsuit. My heart goes out to anyone falsely accused of anything. Trust me it doesn’t feel good. But most of you have been incredible and supportive. Onward and upward.”

Correction On WWE Bringing Back WarGames Again This Year

Earlier this week, we ran a report citing AXS.com that WWE will be bringing back WarGames once again this year for the NXT Takeover event that takes place during Survivor Series weekend. That report has since been debunked and the original article has been removed from that website

WWE revived the beloved WarGames concept match in November for the NXT Takeover event that took place from Houston, Texas. The Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly) defeated the Authors of Pain/Roderick Strong and SAnitY in the first-ever WarGames match under the WWE umbrella.

While it’s possible that we could see WarGames return once more, there has been no official announcement regarding the match at this time.

Tickets are now on sale for Survivor Series 2018 weekend, with the Staples Center in Los Angeles playing host to NXT Takeover, Survivor Series, Raw and SmackDown.

WWE Announces 50-Man “Greatest Royal Rumble”

WWE has announced that a 50-competitor Royal Rumble will take place from Saudi Arabia on Friday, April 27th. The event will be held at the King Abdullah Sports City venue, which holds approximately 62,000 people.

Talent announced for the event includes John Cena, Triple H, Roman Reigns, AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura and more.

WWE has yet to announce if this special event will air on the WWE Network, but this seems like the type of content perfectly suited for WWE’s streaming service.

WWE executives Vince McMahon and Triple H were in Saudi Arabia last week finalizing this new partnership. Turki Al-Sheikh, Chairman of the Saudi General Sports, tweeted this photo last week:

https://twitter.com/turki_alalshikh/status/968962304753717253

Here is the official announcement:
