TNA DESTINATION X RESULTS: Aries Wins TNA Championship

TNA Destination X opens with a video package looking back at the main event feud between TNA Champion Bobby Roode and Austin Aries and the X Division theme of tonight’s PPV.

The pyro hits and Mike Tenay welcomes us to the show. He immediately begins hyping the fact that there will be a new X Division Champion crowned tonight before turning his attention to the main event. Tenay and JB run down the card, and it’s looking like it’s going to be a pretty good show on paper.

The Last Chance qualifying match for the Ultimate X match is going to open the show as Rubix is the first wrestler to make his way out for the match. Mason Andrews is the next man to the ring.

Dakota Darsow vs. Rubix vs. Lars Only vs. Mason Andrews

Lars Only is out next to a bit of heat, and Dakota Darsow is the final man to head to the ring, also getting a bit of heat from the crowd.

The bell rings and Darsow and Only are sent to the floor. Mason and Rubix square off in the ring with a bit of chain wrestling around on the mat. Rubix hits a low dropkick that sends Mason out to the floor. Only comes in from behind and hits a hurricanrana to send Rubix to the outside. Darsow is in and he eats a couple of arm drags from Only.

Darsow fights up and slams Only to the mat before sending Rubix and Andrews from the apron and turning back to Only with a series of elbow drops. Darsow takes Only into the corner, whipping him across the ring, but he’s rolled up. Only rolls from the ring and Rubix hits a top rope cross body to Darsow out of nowhere. Darsow is able to retaliate by throwing Rubix to the mat and hitting a sit out front suplex for two. Only pops into the match and gets caught in a submission from Darsow. Mason comes in and kicks him in the face. Only tries to spear Darsow through the ropes, but both men have a bit of a tough time and end up tangled in the ropes. Mason busts out a beautiful dive to the outside on top of Only and Darsow. Rubix, not to be outdone, does a nice flippy back dive.

Rubix rolls Andrews back into the ring, but he’s caught up in an arm bar. Rubix fights to the ropes, and Kid Kash is shown watching on in the back. Andrews transitions into a kimura but it’s broken up by Only. Only hits a stunner/neckbreaker combo on Andrews and Jigsaw with a kick to Darsow for good measure. Only locks Andrews in a front face lock, but it’s broken up by Darsow. Only sends Darsow from the ring, but he’s pushed into the corner by Mason. Mason runs into Only’s boot. Only heads to the top, but he’s stopped by Darsow.

Andrews kicks Darsow in the face and heads up after Only. Andrews hits a superplex and Darsow powerbombs them both. Rubix hits a coast to coast corner dropkick to Andrews, springboarding out of nowhere, and everyone is down.

Darsow hits Mason with a neckbreaker. Rubix hits Darsow with a kick. Only plants Rubix’s face into the canvas and Rubix falls to the outside. Only turns to Andrews, fighting off a move, but catching a knee to the face, and a big cutter. Andrews pins Only, and he gets the three.

Winner and Qualifier for Ultimate X later tonight: Mason Andrews

Kid Kash vs. Mason Andrews:

Kid Kash runs down to the ring and goes right to work on Andrews. Kash beats on Andrews around the ring before bringing Mason back into the ring and standing on his chest for a pin. Mason is able to kick out at two, but Kash mounts him and rains down punches. Kash goes for a couple more pins, but Mason won’t stay down. Kash sends Andrews into the ropes, but Andrews comes up with a couple of beautiful dropkicks. Andrews goes for a crucifix pin, but Kash kicks out. Kash hots shots Andrews on the top rope.

Kash slaps away at Andrews. Andrews tries to fight back, but Kash simply kicks him in the chest for another two count. Kash takes Andrews into the ropes and hits him with several clubbing blows across the face. Kash pulls Mason to his feet and suplexes him down hard for another near fall.

Kash puts Andrews down with a backbreaker before heading to the middle rope for a double sledge. Kash slams Mason to the mat, flips him off and slaps him, then pins him for two. Kash beats on Andrews, but Andrews tries to fight back, running right into a clothesline. Kash flips off the audience before dropping and elbow and burying more kicks in Andrews’ chest. Kash locks in a crazy key lock hold, but Mason won’t give up.

Mason goes for an opening, but catches a big kick to the face. Kash hits Andrews with a big chop to the chest before kicking him and sending him to the outside. Kash sends Andrews back into the ring, following and slamming him to the mat hard. Kash heads up to the middle rope and jumps to the top for a nice moonsault, but Andrews gets his knees up and Kash crashes and burns.

Andrews gets some offense going with a back elbow, clothesline and dropkick. Kash misses a charge in the corner and eats a hurricanrana. Andrews heads to the top and hits a missile dropkick, but it’s only good for two. Andrews hits a running high knee, but it’s still not enough to put away Kash. Andrews whips Kash across the ring. Kash goes for a sunset flip but Andrews rolls through. Neither man can get a roll up. Kash knees Andrews in the face. He goes to do it again, but Andrews surprises Kash with a roll up. He (really this time) qualifies for Ultimate X.

Winner and going on to Ultimate X: Mason Andrews

Billy Gunn Talks About How Fans Remember DX, Rock-Asutin

Billy Gunn is back with Part 2 of his “GUNN SHOW SHOOT” video series and in this installment, he talks about how fans remember DX and what it was like putting over wrestlers like Steve Austin & The Rock during WWE’s Attitude Era:

Who Fans Think Of When They Think DX: “Honestly, I think it’s Shawn and Hunter… yeah, you’re right, me, Bryan [Road Dogg], X-Pac, we were complete degenerates, to the word… but I think when you think of it all around, from a fan’s perspective, DX is Shawn and Hunter because we were short-lived… every time they bring DX back around, which is helping, it’s always Shawn and Hunter. It’s never us. Even the book [Unauthorized History of DX] just kind of mentioned us in there… it was like a two-paragraph, ‘Oh yeah, Brian and Billy, they were in there too’, so… I get it. They kind of started it, we made it really good, and then they still finish it off.”

Putting Over Stars Like Rock & Austin: “The reason me and Brian put all these guys over, and took their finishes… one, we loved it. Two, we were very good at it. Three, we were probably the best in the whole locker room that could get it done. You know, it wouldn’t do any good if Barry Horowitz and whoever came out and did it… the New Age Outlaws, by themselves, were over, and I don’t mean to say all this just because I was a part of that.. I’m just stating what I feel is right.”

Eugene Talks WWE Wellness, Returning To TV, Orton

Former WWE wrestler Nick Dinsmore (Eugene) was interviewed this week by Mike Buda of SportstownChicago.com. Here are some highlights of what Dinsmore said about:

Possible return to television: “My legal team advises me that I can neither confirm nor deny that I am in talks with TNA and WWE at this time so take that for what it is. I can neither confirm nor deny the internet rumors that are running rampant that both TNA and WWE are chomping at the bit to get the best independent talent that you see today. The best free agent in wrestling. I can neither confirm nor deny that you’ll see me on TV in the next two months.”

Bruno Sammartino declining WWE’s invitation to enter the Hall of Fame: “I didn’t walk a mile in that guys shoes so I don’t know what he’s been through but I think it would be great for the fans, great for the Hall of Fame, and great for the WWE to really portray the legend, especially Bruno Sammartino and the great thing that he was and that he is.”

WWE’s drug testing policy: “I think they’re pretty much right on track with the Drug and Wellness Policy mostly with the equivalent to the other major sports of basketball, baseball, and football. I think years ago, as with all the sports the drugs and everything, people didn’t know that much about them and didn’t know how much they are bad for you and with the wellness policy the pure athlete, is just very good for the business I think.”

Whether WWE should allow Randy Orton to appear on the 1000th episode of Raw while serving suspension: “Would the commissioner of the NFL do that for any NFL guy? I don’t think so.”

JR Blog: Undertaker Retired? Working As General Manager

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

Would He Want To Be General Manager: “No, thanks. Anoint someone who needs the TV time in hopes of building for the future. The role needs to be tweaked in my view and now is a good time to do so.”

A Pet Peeve:: “Wrestlers who can’t act but attempt to do so on wrestling shows. When in doubt simply be yourself. For the record, I’ve been told that my acting skills suck and that would be an accurate statement. Another personal annoyance on TV wrestling is ‘faux’ laughter. It’s an eye rolling, channel changer.”

Is Undertaker Retired? “Has Undertaker retired? O.K., let’s think about this one. IF Taker had retired, wouldn’t one think that WWE would memorialize that occasion in a HUGE way? Come on folks, WWE is an entertainment company and when one of the biggest stars in history decides to call it a day, I think I can safely say, that we will all know. So the answer is ‘No’ the Undertaker has not retired and ‘No’ I don’t know when he’s returning and ‘No’ I don’t think that he will EVER lose at a WrestleMania. (Haven’t heard so many NO’s since my senior prom.)”

As always, you can check out JR’s amazing line of BBQ products at WWEShop.com.

Dragon Gate Wrestler Rumored To Be Leaving For WWE

Wrestling message boards and Twitter have been buzzing for the past few days about Dragon Gate USA wrestler Johnny Gargano leaving the company this month and joining WWE.

He wrestled a tryout match for WWE earlier this year and WWE has been interested in signing him to a developmental deal.

Gargano is the reigning Freedom Gate champion and is scheduled to defend the title against Akira Tozawa at the upcoming 7/27 DGUSA show from Michigan. Gargano is expected to be gone from DGUSA by the end of the month, so there’s a lot of speculation that he’ll drop the title to Tozawa at the Michigan show.

WWE has been looking to sign several wrestlers from DGUSA, including Johnny Gargano, Sami Callihan, Brodie Lee.

DDP Talks RAW Return, Being Backstage, DDP Yoga & More

Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Diamond Dallas Page spoke earlier this week with Raj Giri of WrestlingINC.com about his return to RAW Monday night, the backstage reaction to his return and more. Here are some highlights from the interview:

The crowd reaction to his return: “If I didn’t know they were on a tight time frame and [if] it was all about me, I would have really taken some time there. But I know they were on a time frame so I didn’t want to do that… I can get my sh-t across and do what we needed to do because sometimes less is more. That time that we [Page and Slater] had, that little moment back and forth, and they [fans] started chanting ‘DDP,’ and I gotta tell ya, I was a little set back by it. I mean, the pop that I got when I came out was amazing. They started chanting ‘DDP’ and it got louder and louder… I was like, ‘Wow.’ Maybe I did make a real impression to some people… maybe I did do something right over all those years. Because you can’t make people do that, you know?”

Criticism from some fans for not wrestling a match: “Those same people that complain about me not wrestling a match are the same people who would complain that I went too long, or I didn’t do this, or I didn’t do that. Those are the reasons that my critics could never carry my jock. [laughs] If I would have come out and squashed [Slater], what would that have proved? If I would have had a match, they would have said, “Come on, three weeks in a row,” blah, blah, blah.

If people backstage were talking to him about wrestling or DDP
Yoga:
“It was a combination of things, because a lot of guys grew up watching me. One of the things Heath said was, ‘I’m getting to actually work with a lot of the guys I grew up watching.’ That’s the same with baseball — any athlete.

“The feeling is much different than it used to be. They really created something for the guys. I mean, Johnny [Laurinaitis] does a team meeting thing and it’s fun. I was like, ‘Wow, this is a pretty interesting comradery thing.’ You know?

“With me, you know, Sheamus came up to me and we hadn’t talked since WrestleMania. Chris Jericho, he’s amazing. I couldn’t afford Jericho, he’s a million dollar guy, but he’s barked about DDP Yoga because it really helps him and it’s the only workout that he does. So, when I have Sheamus come up to me and say, ‘You know, Chris [Jericho] really puts this over. Can you tell me more about it?’ Well, you know what? I’m sending it to them. [Laughs.]

“Then Tensai comes up to me and he’s like, ‘Dude, I’ve been tweeting. You going to get back to me? I need a program.’ Guys start dropping by and they see where my body is at. A lot of the guys see what my body looks like when walk, when I move around. They’re like, ‘f–k. He’s 56? He’s doing something right.’

“Then I get into it with eating. So much of how your body feels has to do with what you put in your mouth. Nobody ever really believes it until they do it. When I show some of them, they say, ‘Oh, my God.’ The worst thing you can be is injured. You get that hot angle and all of a sudden, you’re hurt. When Randy Savage was dropping those elbows on me, I pissed blood 13 out of 16 weeks. My ribs were f–ked up and so was my kidney. But you didn’t think I would quit then, did ya? [Laughs.] I was doing the impossible, I’m going to work through it. When it comes down to your knees, or your back or your hips — it’s a different animal, you know.”

On the number of wrestlers using DDP Yoga: “Yeah, they’re doing it. I was talking to Alex last night and he goes, ‘Dude, I’ll pay for it.’ I go, ‘No. I don’t want any of the boys to pay for the workout. I want to just give it to you as long as you’re going to do it.’ ‘Oh, I’ll do it. I’ll talk about it tonight.’ I go, ‘No. I want you to actually do it and then tweet about it because I don’t need PR. I just want people to know what you’re going through. On Twitter, @DDPYoga or @RealDDP — it’s intense, man. There’s been 100’s of people tweeting about the workout and right now, I’ve got a 30 day challenge. Do it for 30 straight days. I’ve got all different kinds for 10 minutes, some for 25. So, having these guys doing it, they’re going to be on WWE online. They’ve already filmed a bunch of the guys. So, it’s really cool.

“The one thing is that it’s going to get a better resurgence again because I’m going to get the wrestlers to start tweeting again. I showed them Arthur’s before and after photos but they’ve never seen the video — you’ve seen the video, right (posted below)? He lost 140 pounds and he went from knee braces, back brace and canes to none of that s–t and running. That was 5 years ago. I’ll give you an example (of how it works): on Monday, next week, Arthur and I will be at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina with the Marines — the baddest dudes of all the f–king dudes. The ones they drop out in the middle of f–king nowhere. I do my inspiration talk about how I started doing this workout. It’s inspirational. I started my career at 35, I was done by 40. Then I talk about people I started to help. Now, I show Arthur. Then, I show the video and at the end of the video, I go, ‘Gentleman, please welcome Arthur.’ He’ll say something, then I come back out and I say, ‘I hope you boys brought your A game today because we brought ours.’

“I could make this the easiest workout ever. Obviously, if he can do it. But were coming to do the bad ass workout. I want to make Lt. Colonel who’s said to me, ‘If these guys like your workout like I do, it’ll become part of the curriculum. That’s a huge goal of mine, getting it in the military.”

DDP also revealed his backstage conversation with CM Punk (who said DDP Yoga wasn’t real yoga earlier this year), when he found out about the apperance, if he would return to the ring and much more. You can check out the full interview by clicking here.

More On Kenny King Wrestling For TNA & His Situation With ROH

As previously reported, Ring of Honor sent out a statement saying that ROH tag champion Kenny King had violated their agreement by appearing on Thursday’s episode of Impact Wrestling.

Kenny King was reportedly supposed to sign a contract extension with ROH several months while working on a new deal with the company. After verbally agreeing to sign an extension with ROH, he flew to Orlando and wrestled for TNA on Thursday night.

King has a young daughter and needs to make money for his family, so many people in ROH are happy for him that he’s getting a chance to work more. However, there’s also a feeling that he left ROH and his tag team partner Rhett Titus in a bad spot by leaving without giving the company sufficient notice and dropping the ROH Tag Team Titles.

Austin Aries On Trying Out For Tough Enough, Kevin Nash, TNA

Austin Aries took part in a media conference call on Thursday to promote Sunday’s Destination X pay-per-view. Here are some highlights of what Aries said about:

Auditioning for Tough Enough: “It was basically an audition for a television show. People kind of want to [make more if it] more than it is, but I was dealing with a talent agency. I wasn’t dealing directly with the company itself and the decisions that were made were made through them. I’ve done other stuff outside of wrestling where I’ve gone to auditions for different roles and parts and didn’t get them. It has nothing to do with acumen as an actor or, in this case, as a wrestler, but more or less what they are looking for to fill those roles.

“It was one of those situations where I was asked if I wanted to throw my hat in the ring. I had really nothing to lose, but it certainly wasn’t something I was pinning my hopes on or that devastated me. Anyone who is an actor in the entertainment business, you go out for a lot of different roles. Sometimes you get the part, and sometimes you don’t.”

Working with Kevin Nash during his first TNA run: “I have nothing but fond memories of Kevin the whole time we did the whole Paparazzi Production thing, and I was associated with him… I think Kevin is a great guy. I think he is very smart business-wise to what we do. I felt nothing but positive vibes from him. Honestly, I look back and a lot of the guys who were doing it with me at the same time would agree that those Paparazzi Production skits were some of the most fun I had doing wrestling.

“It was really just a bunch of guys going out and creating moments and having a good time playing off each other. I think Kevin was a big part of that. I think there was always the perception that he didn’t like smaller guys or used certain situations to better himself only, but I never got the sense of that. There were a couple of situations where he had our back and wanted to make sure that we were all doing the best we could, and the company was doing the best they could for us.”

Comparing his current stint in TNA with his first: “Comparing my two runs with TNA, maybe the first time around the timing wasn’t right or the opportunities weren’t quite what I was hoping for. On the second time around they gave me some rope either to climb the ladder or hang myself. So far I’ve been climbing…

“Honestly when I walked in, I didn’t have any expectations. I just knew I had opportunity and took it one step at a time. What I did try to have this time around was patience and let my work speak for itself. Let the opportunities present themselves and then take advantage of them. I don’t think I would have foreseen myself being in this situation after a year in the company, but I’ve always been confident in my abilities and appreciate the opportunity to prove my talent and that I belong at the top of the card.”

Being a champion: ” I think not everybody is equipped to be a titleholder or a champion. I like to think whatever belt I held throughout my career, I’ve carried professionally and with a certain amount of respect that people can look at it and say, ‘Well, all right, this title belt has worth. It means something.’ I had some issues with belts that I’ve held from the people who have held them before me, but what you go out there and do is put your best foot forward. You try to make sure every time you walk out that people feel like they are seeing the main event.

“Hopefully, we are going to do that again on July 8th at Destination X with Bobby Roode. I’m looking forward to the opportunity to be in the main event against the world heavyweight champion. I think that belt has a lot of worth right now. It should be a great match. Hopefully, the best man wins.”
