  • ROH Owner Talks Saturday’s ROH Title Change (Video)

Ring of Honor sent us the following blog to post here at the site, written by ROH president Cary Silkin. Silkin talks about the title change that took place at Satuday’s live event from New York City. For more on the story, visit ROHWrestling.com.

    You Know When it’s Right.
    By Cary Silkin

After Todd Sinclair counted 1….2…3…. on Saturday Night, I knew we had gotten it right.

Ring of Honor returned to NYC on a big weekend for combat sports in the Big Apple. We weren’t alone in town with Vince McMahon’s WWE across the street at Madison Square Garden and the UFC in Newark, NJ. We moved our show to 4pm to make sure our fans could attend both events. We saw made sure with our event to kick the weekend off right. And when those three seconds happened and a new ROH World Champion was crowned, I knew what we all had been working for the last nine years… we had gotten it right!

Eddie Edwards became our new World Champion and it was my pleasure to get in the ring and shake his hand as the best wrestler in the world. Roderick Strong proved over the last seven months that he was fighting champion for this company. And the level of physicality these two unleashed on each other showed just how bad they both wanted to be known as the best in the world. I knew we had something special after that match when the fans didn’t want to leave; they wanted to stay and celebrate.

Ring of Honor’s events have always been a cut above when it comes to in ring action and how you, our fans, react. I want to invite anyone who has never been to one of our NYC events to come join us on June 26h at 4pm. We return to the Hammerstein Ballroom with what will be our biggest event in our history. Make a weekend out of it, see the city in the summer, attend a Yankee game and be with us at the Manhattan Center. Jim Cornette announced the show will highlight “The Best in the World” and I want you to know that means not only the best wrestlers in the world but the best fans in the world.

If you can’t wait for June 26th, we are returning to iPPV in Atlanta when “Honor Takes Center Stage.” Our Wrestlemania weekend shows are a chance for fans from around the world to see us live. And for the first time this year, if you can’t be at the shows, you’ll be able to watch both on your computer. We’re very excited by the technology and opportunity working with GoFightLive.tv; allowing every wrestling fan a chance to watch ROH live.

Your support makes us stronger. When Eddie Edwards won the title on Saturday, the news spread so fast and wide that his name trended on Twitter worldwide. That’s the first time anyone from this company has ever done that. You, our fans, made that happen. And I’m excited to see what we all can create in Atlanta, Detroit, Toronto, Dayton, Chicago, NYC and every place we go.

    Thank you!

Edwards wins World Title in NYC

  • Rowdy Roddy Piper Invites Rock & Cena To Piper’s Pit

WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper wrote the following on Twitter in response to recent war of words between The Rock and John Cena. Piper Tweeted:

“Saw interviews with Cena and the Rock talking how They paved the road to Hollywood. They did great, but only ONE man paved the way. Fact!”

He then proposed a Piper’s Pit segment with Cena and Rock:

“The Rock and Cena in Pipers Pit….Straight improv!..Book it!! I an’t scared of no ghost…”

  • The Rock Says He Will Wrestle Again

Prior to his WWE return last month, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson had stated publicly in several interviews that his in-ring career was likely forever. Fast forward to 2011’s red-hot feud with John Cena and The Great One appears to have changed his tune.

The Rock is on the cover of the latest issue of WWE Magazine and tells them he’s ready to throw down in the ring once again.

When asked how many of his old ring outfits he still has, Rock said, “I still own it all. It’s still with me in my house. It was never going away because I knew I would one day use it again.”

That sounds like he’s talking about wrestling again, so The Rock was asked, “So does that mean you’re coming back to fight as well?”

He responded,”Making movies is something that I love to do, and I know that it brings a lot of people joy, which in turn brings me and my soul great gratification. Being in the ring and entertaining the audience and kicking ass physically brings me and my soul great gratification as well. I can guarantee that I can always do both.”

  • JR Blog: Jeff Hardy, Lack Of New Top Stars, Wade Barrett

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR wrote about:

Jeff Hardy’s Legal Situation: “No…I do not care to discuss the pending legal matters regarding Jeff Hardy’s alleged drug issues in North Carolina. Firstly, I haven’t kept up with the situation nearly as much as most nor do I know all the facts surrounding the matter. I hope that this seemingly never ending tale can end sooner than later for everyone’s sake who is involved. It seems as if it has been going on forever which means that defense attorney fees will be costly.”

Wade Barrett’s Future: “Yes….I do think that Wade Barrett is a bright future in WWE and I also think that after WM27 concludes that Barrett will be among many younger talents that will be expected and counted upon to raise their game and to build equity into future, main event opportunities in WWE. Barrett is and looks athletic and can talk. I like his upside.”

Lack Of New Top Stars: “Experts can debate all they want about why there is a lack of quality, main event depth in the business nowadays but to me the answer is extremely simple. The death of the wrestling territories has caused significant damage to the major companies abilities to replace aging, main event level stars with younger albeit experienced stars who have a proven track record of main event success in a profitable, regional territory. Case closed.”

  • Chris Jericho Talks About Returning To WWE, DWTS

The WWE website has published a new interview with Jericho, which you can read here in its entirety. During the piece, Jericho said he plans to make a full-time return to WWE when he can be 100% committed to the company.

“One of the reasons I’m not in WWE now is DWTS,” Jericho said. “You have to be 100 percent physically and mentally devoted to one or the other. You can’t do both. I’m sure I’ll be back. I have to return to WWE to take my persona back.”

Jericho clarified what he meant by “taking his persona back” – and took a few shots at WWE champion The Miz.

“I watched Raw on Monday and felt like I was having an out of body experience. I was watching myself on live TV! Then I realized I hadn’t gotten that ugly and become that bad of a wrestler and realized I was actually watching the current WWE Champion, The Miz.”

After teasing last week that he’d be returning to WWE television on Friday’s SmackDown, former WWE star Chris Jericho was featured in a video package hyping his appearance on the upcoming season of ABC’s Dancing With The Stars. The video package that aired on SmackDown featured footage of Jericho and his DWTS partner Cheryl Burke practicing for the upcoming season, which premieres on Monday night.

  • John Cena Wants To Wrestle The Rock & Talks Miz, Taker

RAW superstar John Cena was recently interviewed by Anthony Castellano of Newsday.com and spoke about his current feud with The Rock.

“The fact that he tried to pick a fight with the toughest guy in the place, that’s kind of his style,” Cena said. “But you know me, I don’t back down from anyone. I think it’s going to make some good television.”

So far The Rock is only committed to be the host of WrestleMania, but Cena wants to face The Great One in the ring, and not just once either.

“I think we’re on to a point if this continues, something physical is going to happen. He’s supposed to host. That’s all I know. When he came back on that first night he said he was back for good. I can only hope that’s the truth because I would certainly like to have many, many matches with him.”

Cena put over his WrestleMania 27 opponent The Miz, saying, “He proved in the last few weeks that he is the champ. He needs to be respected as such.”

Cena also commented on the possibility of trying to end The Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak in the future if Triple H is unable to do so this year. While a Cena-Undertaker WrestleMania match is something a lot of people want to see, Cena doesn’t sound interested.

“Nooooo, he just doesn’t lose. That’s not a profitable night for anyone.”

  • Chyna Says She Wants To Wrestle Snooki & The Situation

On Monday’s RAW, Jersey Shore Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi made her WWE television debut, got physical with LayCool and was booked for a match at WrestleMania 27.

Former WWE diva Chyna says that “Snooki” is making a mockery out of pro wrestling – and wants to settle their beef in the ring.

Chyna, who last wrestled back in 2002, spoke to TMZ.com this week and said, “Snooki is trying to make a joke out of wrestling” … and needs to be taught a lesson.

Chyna said she’s also interested in laying the smack down on Snooki’s co-star Michael Sorrentino, best known as “The Situation.”

Chyna told TMZ, “I could take on Snooki AND The Situation in a tag match and have some fun doing it.”

  • POLL: What Do You Think Of The JEFF HARDY Situation?

It hasn’t been a great week for TNA star Jeff Hardy .. After Sunday’s TNA Victory Road pay-per-view lasted less than 2 minutes, word came out that Hardy was “in no condition” to perform and the decision was made to cut the match short just minutes before it began. Several big names in the industry have publicly commented on the situation (links below) and many have questioned TNA’s decision to give him multiple runs with the TNA World title while he’s facing several felony drug charges.

Without giving too much of our opinions on the matter (at least in this article) – we want to know what you think:

  • WWE Working With GLAAD After Receiving Complaints

WWE is partnering with GLAAD (the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) after the organization received a number of complaints about some comments that John Cena made towards The Rock that many WWE viewers saw as anti-gay.

GLAAD issued the following statement this week:

WWE Partners with GLAAD on Anti-Bullying Messages

World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) will be working with GLAAD to create and promote an anti-bullying initiative aimed at their core audience, and has invited us to conduct trainings for their staff of writers and editors.

Our outreach to WWE was prompted by outrage from many LGBT viewers, about a series of homophobic taunts by wrestler John Cena on the USA program WWE Raw in late February. We reached out to WWE Incorporated, which responded swiftly and positively.

GLAAD was first made aware of the incidents by several of its members following the February 21 broadcast of WWE Raw, which featured wrestler John Cena responding to taunts made by Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson with a rap song making fun of Johnson’s film roles. The song included lyrics like “You left us high and dry to play a fairy with a tooth?” and “He wore lipstick in Get Shorty, and rocked a skirt for The Game Plan.”

But the real kicker came near the end when he said: “Just don’t go racing to Witch Mountain, Rock, cause your mountain is Brokeback.”

The next incident occurred on the show a week later (Feb. 28), when Cena was challenging another wrestler known as “The Miz” while in the ring with him, and had the crowd roaring when he joked about the Miz and his wrestling partner secretly being a couple. It began with Cena saying “Do you really want to look back years from now and realize you shared your legacy with another man?! ….Wait don’t answer that.” Cena continued:

“Now The Miz and Alex Riley are co-champions and to celebrate it they’re going to move in together. They’re going to buy one of those tandem bikes and ride to bed bath and beyond to buy some duvets. And every evening they’re going to relax with a glass of warm piot noir and watch The Notebook, or reruns of last season’s Bachelor. ……….You want to be a mentor and train him? Well, tonight I’m going to train you on how to be a man.”

The incidents were particularly troubling because WWE recently began promoting itself as PG-rated entertainment marketed primarily towards adolescent males. Young boys are of course the demographic most likely to experience homophobic bullying or to be bullying themselves. And there was wrestling superstar John Cena performing what amounted to scripted homophobic bullying of other wrestlers on a nationally broadcast show for kids.

GLAAD contacted WWE executives and explained the problem after receiving our first reports. They then spoke to John Cena and the show’s writers. We have been assured that not only will such incidents not happen again, WWE intends to reach out to their adolescent audience, with messages aimed making it clear that bullying someone with homophobic taunts or for their perceived sexual orientation is wrong. WWE released the following apology statement to that effect:

“WWE takes this issue very seriously, and has already spoken with our talent about these incidents. We are taking steps and working with GLAAD to ensure that our fans know that WWE is against bullying or discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. We strongly value our fans in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community, and apologize to them for these incidents.”

We are very much looking forward to developing our relationship with WWE, and we thank them both for hearing our message loud and clear, and for planning to send an anti-bullying message of their own.

  • Hulk Hogan Says He’s Now In Charge Of TNA Creative

We reported earlier this week that Eric Bischoff recently received a promotion in TNA and is now the executive producer of TNA programming. In another sign that the Bischoff-Hogan regime is on solid ground in TNA with more power in the company than virtually anybody, Hulk Hogan is now claiming that he took control of TNA’s creative process three weeks ago.

Hogan had an online exchange this week with former WWE superstar Kizarny, who was asking Hogan why he never got a job opportunity in TNA. Hogan responded:

    HulkHogan4Real
@SiNNbODHi just took over creative 3weeks ago, shoot. Now I understand why nobody is using you HH

Update: A TNA source we contacted this week was unaware about any formal shakeups with the TNA creative team, so for now, it’s just Hogan’s word on this.

Christian won by escaping the cage when the two got tangled up. Before Del Rio could attack Christian, Edge appeared in Del Rio’s car. He threatened to destroy it before Brodus Clay made the save and the two destroyed Edge with a con-chair-to on Edge’s arm to close the show.

  • JR Blog: Jeff Hardy, Angle-WWE, Snooki Wrestling

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

Snooki Wrestling: “While Snooki’s in ring expertise may never be confused with many past or present WWE Divas, the value of having Snooki on the Wrestlemania card has already been established with the massive amount of main stream PR that the ‘Jersey Shore’ personality has garnered. I was amazed at how short Snooki was as she seemed to be cooperative and professional based on my limited observations of her.”

Kurt Angle Back in WWE: “Will Kurt Angle ever return to WWE? How would I or any one other than Kurt and the WWE decision makers know the answer to this? However, I’d suggest that most former WWE talents who had the chance to come back to WWE and earn a good, steady living would all entertain that thought. Angle’s greatest professional moments IMO were in WWE and him being able to finish in WWE might make for some compelling TV. Again, not my call.”

Jeff Hardy’s Recent Issues: “I choose not to respond in detail to recent TNA internal issues as I don’t follow their product closely nor do I know the actual details of what may or may not have occurred over the past few days. However, I do still profess to the philosophy that if one can’t solve a problem one must eliminate it.”

  • More On Why Jeff Hardy’s Case Was Delayed Today

As reported earlier, TNA star Jeff Hardy was scheduled to appear in a North Carolina court on Wednesday morning for the latest hearing related to his pending drug charges, but the case was delayed once again and a continuance was issued.

According to FayObserver.com, the case was delayed because prosecutors are still awaiting the results of lab tests from the State Bureau of Investigation on some of the evidence that was seized from Hardy’s home on the day of his arrest back in September 2009.

Hardy’s lawyer has stated publicly that Hardy will plead guilty to some of the charges and prosecutors are still working on the terms of a plea deal.

A TNA spokesman had no comment on how the company is dealing with Jeff Hardy in the midst of these charges, but did say that TNA has a drug policy. No further details were given.
