  • Lashley Says He’d Fight Batista – But Batista Wants $500K

World Wrestling Insanity interview with Bobby Lashley
    Host: James Guttman
Interview available at WorldWrestlingInsanity.com via ClubWWI.

One topic that both MMA and pro wrestling fans have been talking about is the prospect of a bout between Bobby and former fellow WWE star Dave Batista. Batista has stated that he wants to enter the fight scene now that he is no longer an active pro wrestler with Bobby Lashley named as his possible opponent. How does Bobby feel about the idea? Guttman asks and Lashley explains to ClubWWI.com members:

“I have to be honest. At first, I wouldn’t even think that he would consider it. Then again, with fighting, you never know who’s going to come over and do it. So when I heard Batista was training, I was like more power to him. Because a lot of these guys come in here and they have no experience either. But they take two jiu-jitsu classes, dye their hair blonde, and they’re automatically stepping into the fight industry.”

Lashley mentions the training that Dave has been doing in preparation for a debut and his respect for his decision. He also makes it clear that friendship or not, if it were to happen, it would be a fight.

“I’m completely open to fighting him. Friends or not, when you get in that cage and start throwing punches, the friendship goes out the window for a minute. Because I like Dave, but if we were to have a fight, we would have to close that cage door, forget about the friendship, and try to beat each other up. Then afterwards, we can shake hands and walk away.”

As the ClubWWI.com interview continues, James points out that the fight itself looks less and less likely due, in part, to Batista’s reported asking price of $500,000. He asks Lashley about this request and whether it’s a sign that Dave is thinking it might be a one shot deal given his age. Bobby responds:

“Yeah. I think it’s a measuring gauge for him. Go out there and instead of taking these small fights and working his way up, figuring ‘I’ll go out there and do the bigger fights, the more important fights, the fight the fans want to see. And of course, if I’m fighting the fight the fans want to see, I’m going to want a little more money than if I’m fighting Joe Schmo. Why not go out there and do that fight? See how I feel and if I feel healthy, if I feel strong, then I can continue on with my career. But if I go out and things don’t go the way I wanted, at least I have that big fight. I made a good amount of money and moved on.’ I don’t see anything wrong with that.”

James Guttman’s discussion with The Dominator isn’t limited to MMA. Bobby’s extensive wrestling career has seen him in both WWE and TNA, both of which he talks about including differences between the two companies and working alongside his wife on TV among other topics. Unquestionably, though, the biggest moment of Lashley’s sports entertainment career was his main event at WrestleMania 23. With Donald Trump in his corner, Bobby took on Vince McMahon’s monster Umaga. Since his last appearance on ClubWWI.com, Eki “Umaga” Fatu tragically passed away. JG brings up Lashley’s history with Eki and Bobby shares his thoughts:

“Man, you know. When he passed, when I heard he passed, it was a numbing feeling, man. There were a lot of guys who passed from when I was with WWE. One is enough but there were several and when I found out it happened again…It was hard. It was hard. It was very hurtful. That guy, I’ll tell you, was an incredible, incredible, incredible guy. Always in a good mood. Always had positive things to say. Always joking around.

“He was just like that big gentle giant, but at the same time, he was a big tough dude. We had so many memories of traveling around and just battling each other. Mexico. The whole feud. There are so many things I remember about that guy. Man, it’s hard because when I think about him, it makes me sad that he’s not here anymore. But by the same token, anytime I hear his name, it puts a smile on my face because of the person he was.”

Bobby’s two ClubWWI.com interviews equal over an hour and, alongside shoot interview with over 250 of wrestling’s biggest names ranging from Jesse Ventura to Jerry Lawler to Dan Severn, can be heard the minute you log in.

  • JR Blog: His Heart Surgery, Jericho DVD, Foley’s New Book, NXT

Jim Ross posted his latest blog entry, which you can check out at this link. Some highlights from this entry:

His Heart Surgery: “Thanks for the well wishes regarding my surprise, upcoming medical procedure this Monday afternoon where apparently a stent will be put into a heart artery. I just got this info Tuesday morning even though I knew last week while I was in Florida that my stress test showed some questionable results. Ironically, my blood work from my my annual physical and the overall condition of the structure of my heart have not been better in years and years. All my #’s of importance were the best that they had been in recent memory as a result of losing about 25 pounds, hitting the gym regularly, and adhering to a new, smarter diet.”

Mick Foley’s New Book: “I’m excited about the release of Mick Foley’s book which I have read and reviewed here months ago. I really thought Mick did an excellent job with his latest literary creation and I honestly did not think that the topic felt that compelling before reading the book. I was wrong and throughly enjoyed ‘Countdown to Lockdown’ and encourage fans to check it out. I’m likely to read Mick’s latest book again before I start writing my own some day. As a matter of fact I will probably go back and read several of Mick’s books along with a few others to prime the pump of creativity when I embark on writing my first book of what could be more than one if all goes as planned.”

Talking To Stone Cold: “Got a cool phone call from Stone Cold Steve Austin yesterday and we talked a little about my stent procedure but mostly about this weekend’s football games. Steve has always been a valued friend even in the most challenging of times since we’ve known each other. I always know that I can count on Steve Austin when the chips are down in any scenario. Steve is entertaining the prospects of a couple of kick ass scripts for upcoming films and is really building a solid body of film work.”

Chris Jericho’s New DVD: “Also received a great text from Chris Jericho early this morning who had some wonderful things to say about my broadcasting work on his new DVD which is the best WWE DVD released in years and is available now. It’s always nice to hear from one’s peers, the ‘Boys’ if you will, and I keep in touch with several even though my road days have ended by and large. I’m not sure when or if we will see Chris Jericho back in a WWE ring but having the ultra talented, 20 year vet around makes any card better and Chris can compete with any one on the roster, arguably, better than most anyone.”

Tuesday’s NXT: “Interesting night of TV on NXT. Interesting is an interesting word isn’t it? I very pleased that Cole and Mathews are handling that broadcast assigning, along, of course with our teacher, Matt Striker. As caustic as Cole is at times regarding NXT, I could see where I could be worse and that would not be a good thing. I’ve never proficient in every phase of broadcasting but I know that calling a wheelbarrow race while loaded with a small person in it likely isn’t my bottle of BBQ Sauce.”

  • Dolph Ziggler Talks About His Influences, Spirit Squad, Vickie

WWE Intercontinental champoin Dolph Ziggler was interviewed by Phil Strum of the Poughkeepsie Journal this week to promote Sunday’s Hell in a Cell pay-per-view. Below are the highlights of what Ziggler said about:

Being Satisfied With His Career: “Actually, I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I’ve worked really hard to get where I am today. On my own personal schedule, I am a little behind schedule. I think I’ve dealt with things really well in my career and I’m on track.”

Being Sent Back To FCW After The Spirit Squad Gimmick: “Of course, it’s scary any time you’re coming off the main roster. But I was less than a year into the business at the time and I knew I just needed to work harder than everybody else. I had to go back and learn more of the business. I had two or three practices where I worked with some of the best guys. Working with Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Ric Flair really sped along my learning.”

Which Wrestlers He’s Learned From: “Shawn Michaels, 10 or 15 years ago, was may favorite ever in the ring. Beating someone up, getting beat up. He was the best ever. I’ve taken a lot of advice from him. It’s incredible to watch him. He’s done it better than anyone I’ve ever seen.”

Working with Vickie Guerrero: “It’s been great. I think we make a good combination. Me and her work well together. No one gets booed more than Vickie Guerrero. People hate her and I love it. I like working with her. Hopefully, I can absorb some of that hatred. I know people don’t want to boo me because I look so good.”

His Goals in WWE: “I honestly want to be considered the greatest Intercontinental champion of all time. I want to be the world champion and I wanted to be one of the greatest sports entertainers that this business has ever seen.”

  • Mike Tyson Says James Toney Looked Horrible In His UFC Fight

Legendary heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson tells CanadianPress.com that fellow boxer James “Lights Out” Toney did not do the sport of boxing any favors with his unsuccessful MMA debut against UFC Hall of Famer Randy Couture. James Toney didn’t make it out of the first round, but Tyson says a skilled boxer at the top of his game could “100 perfect” beat an MMA fighter.

“You have to admit, Toney looked horrible. He looked slow. He didn’t look like a seasoned, conditioned athlete. You only had to look at his body structure. No way, Toney didn’t get ready to fight a real, professional athlete like Randy is. It was ridiculous. He had no respect for Randy…. I know 100 percent that a boxer (could win). As long as he learns how to grapple and wrestle, he could do great. You’ve got to go in there respecting the sport, and not just thinking you’re going to knock somebody out every time. It’s a complicated sport, but a good boxer has to be a great athlete anyway.”

Mike Tyson will be appearing on tonight’s episode of The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV, sitting cageside as a guest of Dana White’s.

“Right now, Strikeforce are struggling to find me a serious opponent. Alistair Overeem keeps finding all sorts of excuses not to fight me. The remaining stars have lost in their recent fights, so the promotion has no desire to put them up against me. And Fabricio Werdum is still recovering from his surgery. In addition, I have only one fight remaining with Strikeforce.

My next fight will be last on the Strikeforce contract. I’m yet to decide whether I’m going to continue my fighting career after this contract expires. * 45% of Likely Voters support McMahon
    * 1% of Likely Voters support some other candidate

  • Kofi Kingston Gets Married, TNA Knockout Has Cancer Scare

    – TNA Knockout Tara posted a blog on her Myspace a few days ago announcing that she recently had a mole removed that turned out to be cancerous. Tara, a lifelong “sun worshiper” who grew up in the desert in Southern California, is now urging her fans to be cautious of skin cancer and check themselves out:

“I went to the dermatologist because I had a bump on my hip. It turned out to be nothing. But the doctor noticed a mole near my collar bone that didn’t look quite right. He cut it off and tested it, and it turned out to be Basal Cell Carcinoma. That is the most common form of skin cancer. He cut most of it off, and next week, they are going to cut out the surrounding tissue and I should be 100% It’s it super minor, because they caught it early. So that some of my MySpace friends can possibly catch it early also, here is a link on what to look for… http://www.wikihow.com/Check-for-Skin-Cancer. Also, always wear sun block for extended periods outdoors.”

    – WWE star Kofi Kingston was married earlier this month, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Kingston was married on Saturday, September 11th and was given the weekend off by WWE. • Sean Sherk Puzzled Over Fan Reaction At UFC 119

Following his win at UFC 119 over Evan Dunham, Sean Sherk was booed by the crowd and Indianapolis as they believed Dunham had picked up the win in what was a razor thin split decision.

Sherk talked about the win post fight and gave his thoughts on the fan reaction:

“I knew the fight was close. I think I had the first round pretty decisive. The second round was close. And the third round, I would give that to Dunham. So it depends on what the judges are watching. Anytime you go to a judges decision you’re at their mercy…. We were throwing down out there — he was hitting me hard, I was hitting him hard, he was bleeding all over the place. It had to be exciting. If I was a fan I would have had a good time, so I don’t know why [the fans] are booing me. We went out there and threw down. We left our hearts out there. There was nothing left inside that Octagon.”

  • Frank Mir Talks About His Win Over Cro Cop At UFC 199

Many are calling UFC 119’s main event between Frank Mir and Mirko Cro Cop the worst UFC main event in history and although no fight can likely surpass the shear boredom of watching the second Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn fight at UFC 9 way back in 1996, Mir doesn’t seemed bothered by his performance since he ended up picking the win up at the end of round 3:

“I guess a s—-y win is better than as—-y loss,” Mir said after Saturday’s pay-per-view event. “Other than that, I’m really pissed off about my performance.”

“I got really frustrated because with pushing him against the cage, I drilled so much on what to do from there, and I was making mistakes I wasn’t making a month ago that I thought I had corrected. So halfway through the fight, I’m actually bitching to myself. … I think that was part of my problem. I needed to clear my mind more.”

“Without a single takedown, I was able to stand up for two and a half rounds with Mirko and get the knockout. I guess that’s a bonus. That’s the only positive I can take from this.”

“At least I can rest easy knowing I didn’t go to decision.”

“I didn’t huff and puff one time, and in the past, I’ve always sort of been known for (bad) conditioning, That wasn’t a factor at all. I felt in great shape the whole time.”
