  • TNA Negotiating With Huge Name For Monday Surprise

SEScoops.com can confirm that TNA Wrestling has been in talks with former WWE and ECW Champion Rob Van Dam in recent weeks about joining the company.

RVD and TNA have had ongoing talks for several months, including for the first live Monday iMPACT! on January 4th. While Van Dam obviously did not appear back in January, a reliable source has informed us that negotiations have heated up in recent weeks and TNA is pushing hard for RVD to make a surprise appearance on Monday’s live iMPACT!, the first night of the new Monday Night War. It is possible Van Dam has already signed and the company is keeping it under wraps to maximize the iMPACT! when he appears on Monday.

Van Dam has been outspoken in recent interviews about his desire to return to the national wrestling scene, but does not want to put himself through WWE’s grueling travel schedule. Hulk Hogan recently called in to Rob Van Dam’s online radio show and made a public pitch for Van Dam to join him in TNA, saying the company “needs” him. Van Dam sounded open to Hogan’s proposal and said the two would talk after the show went off the air.

UPDATE: Hulk Hogan Strongly Hints RVD Has Signed With TNA (Video)

Aside from Rob Van Dam, we can also confirm that TNA is working on several other surprises for Monday night.

We’ll have more on the surprises being discussed over the weekend – so stay tuned.

  • Hulk Hogan Talks About His Past Steroid Use (VIDEO)

Hulk Hogan appeared on Don Imus’ Fox Business News radio show this morning to hype his return to the ring this coming Monday night on TNA iMPACT!

After going through his usual story of hitting rock bottom during his divorce and getting his life back together, Imus asked Hogan if he ever used steroids and if so, whether he still does. Hogan replied:

“Nawwww. I think we’ve been re-educated. I’m back at my weight when I was in ninth grade here – about 290 pounds. When I was on steroids, I was about 325, 330.”

After Hogan admitted that he did used to use steroids when they were legal, Imus asked him the drugs took a toll on his body over the years.

“Yeah, I beat my body up pretty bad. I don’t think any. I didn’t abuse them. When I did them, it was a situation that it was legal at the time and the doctors would monitor you and I would always have my blood taken. It wasn’t a situation where I went to some gym and buy a bag of unlabeled bottles and try to get to 450 pounds. I had a little bit of common sense. You can tell the guys that went down that road have health problems now and things are crazy wrong with them.”

Hogan is “in character” for most of the interview and also talks about Vince McMahon vs. John Cena on RAW Monday night, Ric Flair’s recent domestic violence incident and more.

  • JR Blog: Ricky Steamboat DVD, Tag Teams & Video Packages

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here’s what JR said about:

WWE’s Upcoming Ricky Steamboat DVD: “Apparently a long awaited DVD on the career of the great, WWE HOF’er Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat will be released in June. Being on a medical leave of sorts really is a bummer for many reasons not the least of which being not involved in projects such as this one. Ricky is one of my all time favorites and his matches with Ric Flair, among many others, are simply timeless classics. Their 1989 NWA Title Bout in Chicago that I had the privilege of calling is one of my favorite nights on the job.”

The Lack of Tag Teams in WWE: “Yes, there are some good teams still competing today but not the number of outstanding teams like there was in previous generations. While many may point to the fact that some decision makers are not ‘tag team people,’ I look at the overall lack of quality depth in the business as a culprit as well. More talents that can get it done on a high level in the ring will equate to more teams being created. Personally, I am a fan of quality, tag team wrestling.”

Video Packages in Pro Wrestling: “Recent video packages on new wrestlers that have aired on TV in the past couple of weeks have been well done. I can recall when Bill Watts aired 4-6 weeks of well produced vignettes of the Rock ‘n Roll Express, I think that Jerry Lawler produced these vignettes, before Morton and Gibson made their debut in Mid South Wrestling and by the time that R ‘n R physically arrived they were stars. Point being is that systematic and well planned video introductions help any talent, no matter their skill level, to better connect with the audience.”

  • Bischoff Reveals Interesting Bret Hart – WWE Information

Did WWE have to buy out a major insurance policy in order to get Bret Hart to participate in a match at WrestleMania?

TNA executive Eric Bischoff was asked this week on Facebook if he thought the Bret Hart vs. Vince McMahon storyline was being done well. Bischoff responded with:

“For what it is..yes. Allegedly WWE found out about a Lloyds of London (insurance) policy that Bret had in effect AFTER setting up this match, and as a result Lloyds of London has to approve of the physical structure of the match. Can’t confirm this, and perhaps WWE has “bought out” the problem, but if not..could be disappointing. Either way, I am looking forward to it and am happy for Bret. Going back to WWE in any capacity was the right thing for him to do at this stage of his life.”

SEScoops Analysis: Though Bischoff is unable to confirm that validity of this story, it appears that Bret Hart has been collecting insurance money due to his health preventing him from making a living in the ring. With Bret Hart is getting physical once again at WrestleMania, those payments would stop. When Bischoff says WWE might have “bought out” the problem, he means that WWE would have to be paying Bret Hart enough for him to voluntarily wave the insurance money he’d automatically receive by not wrestling.

SEScoops Analysis: Expect a stipulation to be added to the Hart vs. McMahon match, such as a street fight or no disqualification. Also, Sheamus vs. Triple H appears to be a lock with Sheamus attacking the Game as RAW went off the air this week.

  • New RAW Guest Host Announced, Maria On The Red Carpet

    – Former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis made her first public appearance since being released from WWE last week at TheWrap.com’s 2010 Awards Season Nominee Celebration over the weekend in Beverly Hills. Paul Heyman covered the event on his website and posted pictures of Maria from the event, which you can see at HeymanHustle.com.

    – Contrary to speculation that WWE would be ending the RAW Guest Host angle after Steve Austin hosts on March 15th, WWE.com has announced that MLB great and WWE Hall of Famer Pete Rose will be the guest host of the March 22 edition of Raw. The show will take place from San Jose, California and will be the final RAW before WrestleMania XXVI.

  • Recap of Hulk Hogan’s Appearance on Fox News (Video)

TNA star Hulk Hogan appeared on Fox News’ “Fox & Friends” show this morning to promote his return to the ring this Monday night on TNA iMPACT!, the first night of the new Monday Night War. Hogan will team with Abyss against AJ Styles and Ric Flair.

During the segment, Hogan talked a number of topics, including his time in TNA thus far, being offered a 25-year contract by WWE before he signed with TNA, his relationship with Dixie Carter and much more.

Hogan was asked why he went back to the business if it ravaged his body. He talked about being addicted to the business and wanting to work with TNA president Dixie Carter and the talent on the roster to “make history.” He said he still gets goosebumps every time he touches a wrestling ring and wants to make TNA a legit competitor to WWE, which will raise the “water level” of the industry as a whole.

Here’s a video clip of the appearance:

  • New Details On NXT’s Format, Possible WM26 Celebrity

    – It’s believed WWE is trying to get NXT star David Otunga’s fiancee Jennifer Hudson to sing the National Anthem at WrestleMania this year.

    – It was announced on this week’s WWE NXT show that the rookies will progress through the season by having the WWE Pros vote on and evaluate the Rookies. The Pros can’t vote for their own Rookies.

    – Even with that new information regarding the format of NXT, WWE still has yet to officially announce what the winner receives. One idea that has been discussed would have the winner recieve a WWE RAW contract and the runner up receive a SmackDown contract, but as you can imagine, nobody on SmackDown likes the idea of WWE openly acknowledging that RAW is the superior brand.  This has led to talk of there being two winners – with one going to RAW and the other going to SmackDown.

  • Vince & Linda Buy $4 Million Condo In Stamford, CT

Trump Parc tower in Standford, CT

Connecticut’s Stanford Advocate is reporting that Vince and Linda McMahon  purchased a $4.1 million penthouse duplex in Donald Trump’s Trump Parc luxury tower, located in Stamford Connecticut.

The sale was actually finalized back in October. The penthouse unit has 3,900 square feet of living space.

Political blogger Aaron Blake of TheHill.com wrote this week that Linda’s political opponents “will surely be after her for the timing” of purchasing yet another luxury piece of real estate.

Vince and Linda already own eight multi-million dollar real estate holdings and do not plan on living in their latest acquisition.

Linda’s campaign spokesman Ed Patru is defending the purchase by stating, “I’ll remind you that unlike (two of her opponents), Linda didn’t inherit her resources. She was born in a middle class family, started with bankruptcy and earned the money herself through hard work.”

  • Jim Ross Blogs About Visiting RAW & Meeting With Bret Hart

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has updated his blog at JRsBarBQ.com. Here’s what JR said about visiting at WWE RAW last night from Oklahoma City:

Being at RAW Last Night: “It was great seeing so many of my friends from the WWE world Monday at the Ford Center. It is always good to catch up with long time acquaintances and how they and their families are doing. If I was asked once, I was asked a 100 times, ‘When are you coming back?’ I don’t have the exact answer to that question but my standard and honest response remains the same and that is that my goal is and always has been to return to WWE at Wrestlemania 26. If all the necessary arrangements can be made from a business perspective then that goal will hopefully become a reality.”

Meeting With Bret Hart At RAW: “Bret Hart and I had a long conversation Monday of which I enjoyed immensely. Bret is one of the all time greats, a WWE HOF’er, and has battled thru amazing adversity in overcoming a serious stroke to get to where he is today. Bret, as we discussed, will never be ‘100%’ but his heart and spirit are strong and he will no doubt do all he physically and mentally can to provide the fans their monies worth at WM26 versus Mr. McMahon. I personally can’t wait to see this attraction. Bret and I even talked casually about doing some appearances together, perhaps even some Q&A’s”

    Before RAW:

    – The dark match before last night’s RAW saw Vladimir Kozlov defeat a local wrestler.

    – William Regal vs. Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston vs. Chavo Guerrero was taped before last night’s RAW to air on this Thursday’s WWE Superstars.

    Jim Ross Appears:

    – Jim Ross made an appearance before the live crowd at last night’s RAW in Oklahoma City. There were fan reports saying Ross told the fans he would be ringside at WrestleMania but Ross cleared it up on Twitter later, saying he hopes to be ringside at WrestleMania and it’s nothing confirmed. Reports say that JR looked better than he has in a while and has lost some weight.

After RAW went off the air:

    – When RAW went off the air Shaemus came back and threw HHH into the ring. Batista’s music hits and he said you don’t just beat down a guy like HHH, you take them out, let me show you.
