  • NXT News: TV-14 Rating, Filming At FCW, Otunga's Wedding

    – WWE programming is rated TV-PG and acceptable for the whole family, but Tuesday’s WWE NXT debut on SyFy was actually rated TV-14 (“Parents strongly cautioned”). According to WWE, the TV-14 rating was an error. A WWE spokesman told the Hartford Courant, “There was a miscommunication between SyFy and the programming guides. All of our programming is PG.”

WWE will be filming a lot of NXT segments at the Florida Championship Wrestling gym in Tampa, Florida. This comes as a blessing to Steve Keirn, who runs FCW, since WWE has paid for a lot of upgrades to the gym and to the production equipment.

    – WWE NXT rookie David Otunga, who has long been engaged to Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson, told E! that he would be open to marrying the one-time “American Idol” finalist in a wrestling ring.”We could do that,” said Otunga. “I don’t know if Jennifer would go for it, but I’d be up for it.”

    – WWE reported on their website via listatlas.com that the WWE NXT Rookie list on Twitter is the #3 fastest growing list this week.

  • WWE Movie News: Batista & Randy Orton’s Projects

    – WWE Studios will begin working on a movie called “Killer Karma” soon. The movie has a $10 million budget and will be released in theaters, starring WWE Champion Batista. The movie is about a guy being released from prison (presumably Batista) who is trying to get his life in order with fate, friends and enemies getting in his way.

    – WWE began filming the movie “Big Red” in New Orleans this week. It stars actors Ed Harris and Amy Madigan with RAW’s Randy Orton. The movie is based in the mid 1960’s and focuses on a smart 12-year-old boy whose teacher makes him work with a social outcast on a project and the outcast has an incident with a bully at school. Orton will star as the father of the bully who tries to get Harris fired him his job as teacher. Madigan will play the school’s principal. Big Red is an example of a new strategy being employed by WWE Studios, which is to cast big name Hollywood actors in their films and use WWE superstars as supporting characters.

  • Hulkamania Tour Company Bankrupt, Orlando Jordan Storyline

    – It was reported a few weeks back that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff wanted TNA to stop doing live events until they got everything in TNA on the right track. Their position was based on poor house show performance in November and December. Being that TNA did great live event business in January (following the successful January 4th show), the live events were never scrapped. Jeff Jarrett, Don West and Jeremy Borash are currently in charge of live events.

    – The company behind the “Hulkamania: Let the Battle Begin” tour of Australia has gone bankrupt and the expected DVD of the Hulkamania tour of Australia probably won’t be released. Hulk Hogan reportedly wouldn’t allow them to market the DVD until the promoters paid him money he was still owed for the tour. The show was scheduled to air in Australia on TV a few months ago and there was talk of another tour in China, but those plans are off.

    – The new bi-sexual storyline with Orlando Jordan got off to a bad start with TNA and Spike TV officials as neither of them were happy with the way Jordan’s male companion was rubbing him in the bit that didn’t air on iMPACT. The guy with Jordan is the same guy that was with him when he got fired from WWE a few years back.

  • WWE Signs New British Diva Jemma Palmer (Pictures)

WWE has signed a new British Diva, the sexy Jemma Palmer. Palmer, who played “Inferno” on the UK Gladiators show, told TheSun.co.uk that she’s excited to follow in the footsteps of follow Brit babes Katie Lea and Lalya El.

The 24-year old will relocate to Tampa, Florida, next month to join Florida Championship Wrestling, WWE’s developmental league. She’s been waiting on her work Visa for seven months, which finally went through.

She told SunSport, “I was bullied at school and all through that time I looked at people like the Gladiators and wrestlers — fit, strong characters who told you to go for what you wanted. So I ignored the bullies and didn’t let them distract me from my education and goals. I hope I can inspire other kids to go for their dreams. I wanted to be a wrestler and a Gladiator and I’ve done that by ignoring what anyone else said.”

Palmer auditioned for Vince McMahon back in 2005 along with Katie Lea, but was not hired at that time.

  • Update On Michael Cole’s Anti-Internet Rant On NXT

During the main event of WWE NXT last night, announcer Michael Cole went off on a rant against Internet fans and the independent wrestling “universe.”

The main event featured NXT rookie Daniel Bryan against World Heavyweight champion Chris Jericho. Announcer Josh Matthews played up Bryan’s wrestling credentials, putting over the fact that he’s been wrestling on the independent scene for nearly a decade and has established his name across the world. Michael Cole seemed to get pissed off over Matthews comments, repeatedly dismissing Bryan’s accomplishments, saying performing at “high schools” does not impress him in the least.

Cole sided with The Miz’s character, downplaying Bryan’s accomplishments and insisting he show more respect for the WWE Pros. Cole added that he had never really heard anything about Daniel Bryan prior to the debut of NXT and put down smart fans who read the “dirt sheets.”

Some fans reacted with outrage, feeling as if Cole’s comments represented a deliberate disrespect for diehard wrestling fans and what talent like Daniel Bryan have accomplished outside of the WWE ring. But it was apparent to most, however, that Cole was simply trying to stir up some controversy.

The “WWE Universe” Twitter account posted the following Tuesday night:

“Michael Cole has requested his @WWEUniverse profile be removed from our site, not wanting to associate with “online fans” any longer.”

In typical WWE fashion, there’s a real life situation that’s out of their control (smart fans going online and reading wrestling news & learning about other wrestling products) – so they’re turning it into a storyline.

UPDATE: Joey Styles posted the following messaages on Twitter in regards to the on-air exchange between Michael Cole and Josh Matthews:

“So who is the bigger online fan favorite now, Bryan Danielson or Josh Mathews for acknowledging the wrestling world outside WWE?”

“I can assure you that the exchange between Josh Mathews and Michael Cole was very real. Cole lives in the WWE bubble.”

There are now several I hate Michael Cole threads in the NXT forums on wweuniverse.com. Vintage hatred for Michael. Oh My. Josh is a hero.

  • RAW Rating, Warrior Rejects WWE Hall Of Fame Invitation

    – The original plan for the 2010 WWE Hall of Fame was to make former WWF Champion The Ultimate Warrior this year’s marquee inductee. After Warrior and WWE settled a lawsuit several months ago, the two sides began discussing Warrior being part of the Hall of Fame this year. Warrior initially agreed to be inducted into the Hall of Fame but he made the decision last week to change his mind and reject the offer. It’s believed that Stu Hart will be announced as the next inductee on RAW next week and he will likely be this year’s featured inductee.

  • Undertaker’s Entrance Changed, RAW Main Event Changed

    — Following the pyro incident at Elimination Chamber, WWE officials were extra careful with Undertaker’s entrance on RAW and kept fire of tweaking his entrance for WrestleMania to avoid another accident like the one they had Sunday night. There is also talk of his WrestleMania entrance being modified to limit his potential exposure to fire.

    — Speaking of the Undertaker incident, the story has been picked up by a number of mainstream news outlets including CNN and the Associated Press. A few of the articles brought up the WWE malfunction that led to Owen Hart’s death.

    — The main event for last night’s RAW was originally scheduled to be John Cena vs. Sheamus, with the winner getting a shot at Batista and the championship at WrestleMania. Sheamu suffered a concussion in the WWE title Elimination Chamber match and was not cleared to wrestle last night – so WWE went with the hotshot angle of Cena vs. Batista on RAW.

  • Daniel Bryan Talks About His Name Change, The Miz

WWE NXT rookie Daniel Bryan (formerly Bryan Danielson) appeared on “The B.J. Shea Morning Experience” radio show on 99.9 KISW in Seattle this morning to discuss tonight’s WWE NXT debut. Here’s what Bryan said about:

His Name Change: Well we have to accept the things that are handed down to us, but it is pretty close to my name, you know what I mean? I am comfortable with it and I think it is going to be good. Most people who watch WWE Universe have no idea who I am so they don’t know about what my name was before or anything like that.

To them I’m always going to be known as Daniel Bryan. I think that will be okay. It’s just that the WWE is an enormous corporation and it’s smart for them to have the rights of anybody they put on TV. It doesn’t matter if the person is successful; I’m successful and they own the rights and that helps them and their merchandising and that sort of thing. I don’t think it’s really a big deal; it’s a pretty standard thing.”

The Miz Calling Him Boring: “So the deal with The Miz is that that’s how he’s gotten by. He’s very charismatic, he’s gone out there, he’s really good at making people hate him. How I’ve gotten by is a little bit different. I’ve been doing this for over ten years now and what I’ve gotten by and how I made my name is by being excellent in the ring, but that doesn’t mean what he’s saying isn’t partially correct, you know what I mean?

“There is this huge aspect there where for me it’s always been what goes on in the ring. And with the WWE…that’s a big part of it, it’s presenting yourself as a superstar. And when he said I look like an accountant, I kinda do! I don’t watch television, I don’t e-mail. He was asking me, ‘What do you do with yourself?’ and I said, ‘Well, I read!’ (Miz responded) ‘What? Who reads?’ It’s just one of those things where there’s going to be a learning curb there because it’s completely different then anything I’ve every done.”

You can listen to the interview it’s entirety at KISW.com.

  • More On The Undertaker’s Pyro Malfunction – HBK Involved?

Undertaker had first and second degree burns on his chest and neck. Those within WWE consider him very lucky, having escaped with the burns he had, as opposed to how badly it could have been.

Despite the burns, Undertaker continued to work through the match in tremendous pain, and even refused to shorten the match. The sleeve of his jacket and part of his hand had melted when the pyro went off prematurely.

There was talk of having Shawn Michaels take responsibility for the pyrotechnics incident that happened at the Elimination Chamber PPV. The decision was made prior to RAW, and that idea was ultimately shot down.

One of the key things in the decision making was going to be based off how their camera angles had the incident, if it came off impressive, the idea would have been used on TV.

  • WWE Draft Date Confirmed, News On Bret’s Car Crash

    – It was announced last week that the April 26th edition of WWE RAW from Richmond, Virginia would be a 3-hour show, which lead to speculation that the WWE draft might take place that night. This has now been confirmed by the Richmond Coliseum website, which is promoting the event as the night the 2010 WWE Draft will take place.

    – Some WWE RAW viewers are under the impression that Bret Hart really was injured in a backstage car crash last week on RAW. It appears some viewers saw the number on the ambulance used in the angle and actually called the ambulance company to check on Bret’s condition. On the Midwest Ambulance website, there is a message that states:

“ATTENTION: Please do not call 222-2222 regarding the condition of Bret “Hit Man” Hart. Contact the WWE for updates. Our number is for emergency calls only. Thank you.”

WWE superstar Gregory Helms has posted a picture on Twitter of himself along with several WWE and TNA wrestlers. Helms asks if readers can name all the people in the picture, which you can see here (for the record, it’s The Pope, Mr. Anderson, Chavo Guererro, MVP, Hornswoggle, Gergory Helms and Dean Malenko).

  • TNA Gearing Up For March 8th, Jeff Hardy Outdraws TNA

    – TNA has no live events scheduled until the live iMPACT on March 8th in order to give the crew a chance to rest up and get ready for the big night.

    – As noted before, Orlando Jordan’s new male valet is a friend of his outside of TNA and his new female valet is independent women’s wrestler Santana G. The angle with two valets is the same thing Jordan pitched to WWE before he was released years ago, with the idea Trinity would have been the female and another male friend of his outside of WWE would have played the male role.

    – Jeff Hardy and Shannon Moore were at an autograph signing in Middletown, New York this weekend and reportedly their signing outdrew both TNA live events in the Northeast this weekend. Moore said on Twitter that over 1,500 people showed up and they had to turn some away.

    – One of the reasons Kaz is no longer playing Suicide and has returned to his previous gimmick is because Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff felt he shouldn’t be wrestling under a mask because of his looks and facial expressions.

  • What You Didn’t See On WWE RAW Last Night

(Partial thanks to reader Seth Fisher for sending in some of these live notes)

    Pre-RAW Dark Match

    – Vladimir Kozlov defeated Cyrus Young in a squash match.

    WWE Superstars Matches:

    * William Regal and Jack Swagger vs. Santino Marella and Chris Masters

    * Zack Ryder vs.  Primo Colon

    Live Notes:

-During the commercial break where ShowMiz were in the ring, Big Show complained the bull should be “tested” and then The Miz cut a heel promo on the Colts.

    – It was a solid show, and the crowd seemed really into all night. I’d say the arena was about 95% full.

    Post-RAW Dark Match

    – Triple H & Edge defeated Chris Jericho & Batista in the dark main event. After Cena was helped to the back, Triple H came out and called out Batista. After Batista came out, Jericho came out picking a fight with Triple H until Edge came out and suggested the tag match. Triple H and Edge were both in t-shirts and jeans. 6 or 7 minutes, Triple H gets the pin on Jericho after a pedigree.
