Rumored Dates For Next Monday iMPACT!, Hogan-Bischoff, nWo

– Following reports that Spike TV was very happy with TNA’s ratings performance against WWE RAW on January 4th, another live Monday iMPACT is being planned for March. March 1st and March 8th are the two dates Spike is considering.  Regarding going live permanently, everyone expects it to happen this year.

– Spike TV played a big part in TNA bringing Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff in. Spike reportedly earmarked money and helped out with the contracts as they have done in the past with other major TNA signings such Kurt Angle, Sting and Mick Foley. Spike executives Kevin Kay and Brian Diamond are firmly behind Hulk Hogan and his importance to TNA when they ultimately look to challenge RAW on Monday nights week after week.

– Scott Hall and Hulk Hogan were  in noticeable pain after last Tuesday’s iMPACT tapings. Hallw was having hard time getting around after the show. Some were surprised that Hogan was able to jog backstage at the end of Monday’s show because he was struggling to get around backstage so much.

– As noted before, Sean Waltman had some heat on him after showing up late to the iMPACT tapings last Tuesday. Waltman told TNA officials that he was battling a stomach flu on Monday, but many were skeptical about Waltman’s excuse because of his track record.  TNA is counting on Waltman to take the majority of bumps for Scott Hall and Kevin Nash, just as he did in the nWo days.

Details On Bret's WWE Return, Storyline Plans, Limitations

Bret Hart first contacted WWE in February of 2009 to let them know that he was open to returning for a storyline. Hart’s girlfriend was going to school in Calgary and he would be based out of Calgary for a few years instead of Hawaii, where he had been. Bret was getting bored with retirement and thought of getting back into wrestling.

Bret notes that there were times when WWE seemed interested and other times when they really didn’t seem interested in his return at all. He told them a few times that if they weren’t that interested, he was fine with that and then he would always hear immediately back from them with interest. Talks for this year’s WrestleMania angle got serious last September.

There is a storyline in place through WrestleMania between Hart and Vince McMahon with hope for some sort of street fight or at least a showdown between the two at WrestleMania. Due to concussions from the past and his stroke in 2002, Hart is very limited to what he can do in the ring. He can’t take a traditional flat back bump. Obviously challenges like these could affect what happens between Bret and Vince. The original script for the RAW angle a few weeks back was for Vince to slap Bret in the face. Because of the concussion issue, they changed it to a kick in the stomach. It actually ended up being a kick to the groin from Vince, a miscue that Bret felt made the segment better.

Both Bret and WWE have laid out the basic details of the storyline and agreed on them. Each side has veto power regarding minor details. Hart is scheduled to return at next week’s RAW and is scheduled to be a regular on RAW through February. Bret’s contract with WWE is for through April and is only for this storyline. Bret is said to be open to ideas if WWE is interested in using him past that point and is open to signing a longer contract. If no contract would be offered, he is still open to appearing on the occasional show for the next few years while he’s mostly based out of Calgary.

Other sources report that revealing Bret’s stroke from 2002 in the storyline has been talked about. Apparently it will be a significant part of the angle at some point. Bret’s concussion issue is less likely to be brought up because it’s such a sensitive issue right now.

On the plane trip from Hawaii to RAW, Bret’s sciatic nerve in his lower back was acting up badly, causing concern that he would be limping to the ring. Bret rested after the trip and was pain free by the time RAW came on Monday night.

John Cena

John Cena

The word going around WWE is that John Cena is suffering from a back injury.

Reports indicate that Cena is suffering from a few bulging discs, which can be very painful and might require surgery.

Not much more is known about the injury at this time and the severity is hard to assess.

Nonetheless, it does appear that Cena’s condition is the reason Cena will not be wrestling WWE Champion Sheamus at the Royal Rumble.

Bischoff Says He's Better & More Creative Than Vince McMahon

Eric Bischoff

Eric Bischoff

Eric Bischoff spoke to Alez Marvez of ScrippsNews.com about his new business partnership and on-air  and  Here are some highlights:

Why He Joined TNA: “It was the combination of a lot of things,” Bischoff said of his TNA interest. “Most of all, I like Dixie. She has a lot of integrity and I like to be in business with people like that. Secondly, I saw an opportunity. The way we have our deal structured is great for Bischoff-Hervey Entertainment. And this provided me with a chance to get back into a business I love. I believe a creative person who has a certain feel for this business can change the fortunes of this company in a good way.”

His Strategy To Make TNA #1: “No matter what people have said or written about me, I know what I accomplished changed the business and had a positive impact. I also made a lot of mistakes and have the scar tissue to prove it. I’m going to try and repeat the good stuff and avoid the bad stuff.”

His Relationship With Vince McMahon: “I have a tremendous respect for Vince and, in a perverse way, I like him. But at the end of the day, I think I’m better than him. I’m more creative than him and have a better feel for the business.” Bichoff laughed, “It’s just that he happens to be a lot more successful than I am.”

Vince Russo Calls Out "Dirt Sheet" Writers

TNA writer Vince Russo has posted a message on his Facebook page calling out “dirt sheet” writers for over analyzing his every move.

“I want to thank those dirt sheet writers for analyzing my every syllable … As far as watching our competition, before Russo and Ferrara came to WWF, VINCE McMAHON thought ECW was a protein supplement. Let me translate that for the analyzers–Vince McMahon NEVER WATCHED ECW, WCW, or any of his competition. I imagine he watches ECW now, only because he has no choice–he owns it.

Now, in order for you guys to have fodder for your afternoon columns, blogs and tweets, the Creative Team is going out to eat Gyros for lunch.

Analyze that for the next three days.”

JR Blog: Cornette's Criticism, Favorite Announce Teams

Jim Ross has posted his latest blog entry at JRsBarBQ.com. Some highlights:

Cornette Blasting WWE & TNA Recently;Jim Cornette is in the news a great deal here lately with his “stinging” comments about the wrestling biz in general. I’ve known JC for over 25 years and over that length of time I’ve discovered that most folks either really like Corney or they really dislike him. He is outspoken and controversial which are two of the traits that made him one of the greatest, wrestling managers to ever live. Plus he likes to create controversy as it creates traffic for his website, JimCornette.com. I have not always agreed 100% with some of Jim’s assessments but I have never doubted for one second his passion and love of the business. Ring of Honor is fortunate to have Cornette on their team.

Wrestling at 60: Wrestlers over 60 who I can recall still being good at that age obviously include Jerry Lawler and Ric Flair but let’s not forget that Lou Thesz was still a solid hand when he was north of 60. I don’t recommend every wrestler performing when they reach the age of 60, obviously, but a few guys have been able to pull it off on occasion especially “Naitch” and the King. Several men have returned to the ring in their 60’s for “one off” appearances, more often than not in tag bouts, and many times these “returns” drew good money. It was the 2nd and 3rd “return from retirement” that usually didn’t work so well.

His Favorite Announce Teams: “I loved [Gorilla] Monsoon and [Bobby] Heenan. I could watch and listen to them for hours. Mean Gene Okerlund and “The Brain” were also great together on All American Wrestling back in the day. Funny, funny stuff that was largely ad libbed. I thought Tony Schiavone was really good before Atlanta’s WCW sucked the passion out of Tony who had a distinctive voice and a tireless work ethic when we were together in Charlotte and Atlanta. I also felt that Mark Madden could have been a superb analyst if he had been provided a the right opportunity as he was intelligent, very witty and caustic all in a good way. Lance Russell and Dave Brown had the best chemistry of any duo I think ever saw. The Memphis based duo were excellent in their tenure for many, many years.”
