  • Vince McMahon Taking Full Control Of WWE's Movie Studio

WWE Chairman and CEO Vince McMahon is taking full control over WWE Studios after ending distribution relationships with Lionsgate and 20th Century Fox, according to an article from entertainment industry publication Variety.  Will will now be able to “fully own and exploit” all aspects of its movies.

WWE has announced new partnerships with Samuel Goldwyn Films for theatrical releases and Vivendi Entertainment for DVD releases, but Vince McMahon says WWE has “learned a great deal” about the business to handle all aspects of movie making.

“This is an opportunity for us to completely control everything from the production all the way through to release,” McMahon said. “We’re putting our money where our mouth is.”

WWE plans to film nine movies by 2012. All filming will take place in the city of New Orleans, which will save WWE a bundle in production costs due to the city’s tremendous tax breaks. To crank out 9 movies by 2010, WWE plans to film the movies one after the other, with minimal down time in between.

McMahon also said one of main reasons they want to control the production and distribution of WWE movies is to better market each film toward their TV audience. He admits WWE hasn’t done a great job working with other distributors.

“There’s a much larger number that we’re not reaching,” McMahon said. “We have the resources, we just need to leverage all of it. There are so many different things that we can do.”

  • Major Heat On Bubba The Love Sponge For Haiti Comment

    Bubba The Love Sponge
    Bubba The Love Sponge

There’s major heat on TNA backstage interviewer and radio shock jock Bubba The Love Sponge after some pretty tasteless comments he made over the weekend regarding the earthquake in Haiti.’

As everybody is aware of by now, an earthquake devastated the country of Haiti last week and tens of thousands are feared dead. Bubba the Love Sponge is apparently sick of the United States efforts to help another country when we have so many issues at home to address and wrote on Twitter, “F— Haiti”

No matter how you feel about the United States’ foreign policy and its political stance on spending American dollars to help other nations in need, the comment was pretty foolish.

As a result of the “F— Haiti” comment, Bubba was told by TNA management to stay home over the weekend and not to attend the TNA production meetings headed into Sunday night’s Genesis pay-per-view.He was reportedly supposed to be part of an angle involving The Band at Genesis. Regarding that situation, he wrote on Twitter:

“here in orlando things r all messed up. Was suppose to be at the prod meeting @11 they called and said not 2 come???”

“I was suppose 2bpart of the outsiders deal and somebody over ruled hogan on it and I sat in the back all night about”

Bubba has since posted an apology regarding his Haiti comment:

“I am going to say this one time and one time only. First of all a real man sometimes has to take a step back and maybe look at something they said or did so that being said I would like to apologize for my comments regarding Haiti in the world of live radio that I operate. Sometimes u say things that u can’t take back. So I’m man enough now to say I’m sorry for those I offended.”

Too little too late? Let’s hear your Comments below.

  • John Cena’s Injuries, More Releases Coming, New Superstar

    — It was recently reported that John Cena is suffering from back problems, but he is also having issues with his neck, both of which stem from his surgery a few years back. With Cena one of the guys who legitimately travels on the road about 300 days a year, it definitely lessens the time has to recover from any ring injuries.

    – WWE developmental talent Johnny Curtis has been working RAW brand events as of late. Curtis is cutting promos saying to look out for him on RAW soon and that he’s going to make an impact in WWE. Curtis has been signed to a WWE developmental deal since 2006 and has held the FCW Tag Team Titles in the past with Tyler Reks.

    — WWE announced the release of SmackDown superstar Eric Escobar  last Friday and it’ss expected that more releases will be announced heading into WrestleMania.

  • Big Show Talks About Shane McMahon’s Future

The UK’s Sun has a new interview up with Big Show to promote the WWE Royal Rumble pay-per-view. Regarding Shane McMahon leaving WWE, Big Show had the following to say:

“Shane is a lot like his dad. Vince struck away from his dad and ended up buying him out. Shane is the type that wants to follow his own path and he is going to do fine. I don’t see Shane starting up a rival wrestling company, but he wanted to do some Mixed Martial Arts thing then maybe. If Shane wanted to work on a production company for movies then that can happen too. Shane is a very charismatic, intelligent man, a very driven person, so whatever avenue he chooses to go into he is going to be very successful at it. He cant ask for anymore than that.”

Despite the fact that Shane has been groomed his entire life to have an executive role in World Wrestling Entertainment, Show understands that Shane has to be his own man and do what’s right for him.

“We all work together and there are a lot of guys that really love him and he loves them too. But we are business men and grown men too. There comes a time where every man has to make a decision for himself and his family and everyone respects that.”

  • WWE RAW Results (1/18): Don Johnson & John Heder Host

This week’s RAW starts with a Martin Luther King JR. video, as they do every year.

    Musicand pyro.

Vince McMahon out to the ring. Video of Vince and Bret shaking hand, but then Vince kicked Bret in the gut. Vince says life’s about decisions. You make good and bad decisions, especially in business. He made the decision to bring RAW to this God forsaken city. He made the decision to bring in Bret. Then he made the decision to kick Bret as hard as he could in the gut. He wants Bret to be remembered as he is, a broken down old war horse who needs to be put down. It’s his job to put them down when they get like that. It’s like most everyone, they chew gum. Walking at the same time’s another story. You chew gum, then spit it out when it loses its flavor. If he’s allowed Bret to stay it would have been like a disease. Like gangrene in your finger, then into your hand and arm. You have to chop it off before it takes over. He tells them to go ahead and boo. They’re all hypocritical and know it. They want faster and stronger. More action, more grandeur. He didn’t make the decision that Bret can’t come back to the WWE, the fans did. GONG! Vince was stopped dead in his tracks. Out to the ring – fire, smoke lights and all! Taker’s in the gear he had been wearing, not the throwback gear he’s been wearing lately on SD! Vince says he wasn’t quite finished saying what he was going to say. It’s his time, his show… Taker says the way he sees it, it’s his time now. He came out to address HBK, but he needs to tell Vince something his own ego won’t allow him to admit. There’s not many of them left, but he was there, 12 years ago in Montreal. He saw the whole thing. He saw the fear in his eyes then and he sees it now. Vince screwed Bret Hart. Not once, but twice. And now he’s terrified of the consequences. As he should be! What he did was the act of a coward. Vince says, with all do respect he disagrees with his point of view, but it is Taker’s time. Vince quickly leaves the ring and scurries away. Taker says stubbornness, anger, denial. Not just attributes of Vince, but also lie in the heart of HBK. Almost a year ago he said he’d go to WM and end Taker’s streak. He did prove, without a shadow of a doubt that he is Mr. Wrestlemania, but the streak is intact. For a month now HBK’s trying to get Taker’s attention. He’s requested a rematch at this WM. So he stands before him with his answer, one he wanted to deliver personally. HBK comes out in too much DX gear to face Taker. They stare at each other in the ring. “HBK” chants erupt and grow to take over the arena. “Here I am Deadman…” HBK says he’s anxiously awaiting and answer and is all ear. Taker said HBK came closer than all the others, but still failed. A rematch at this WM will only result in more bitter disappointment for himself. Taker has nothing to prove to him. His answer… Is no! HBK looks down and away. HBK says he has the audacity to come out here and look him in the eye… Taker says if HBK’s convinced he can beat him, he has the opportunity tonight. HBK says no. Taker glares. HBK says he wants nothing more than to beat Taker, but it will be on the grandest stage of them all. He realizes what he has to do now. He’ll enter the RR and when he wins. And believe him, Taker, he will win. There won’t be any mystery about the Champion HBK will face. The Champion is Taker. Taker says he’ll be the Champion at WM, so winning the RR will be HBK’s only chance at salvation. HBK says after he wins the RR, he’ll see him at WM. Taker’s streak, his title, his soul will be HBK’s. GONG! The lights go down and Taker leaves HBK in the ring looking pensive.

    – Commercial

Backstage HHH up to HBK. HBK asks if he’s seen that. HHH says he did, then Don Johnson walks up. Much friendship. Johnson is looking for Heder. HBK says he knows who Johnson is, but don’t know who Heder is. HBK asks HHH what’s up? HHH says he’ll talk later. HHH cuts on Heder. Johnson says that he did remember HHH and Heder had some problems before. HHH says at least Johnson showed up on time. Johnson says he’s a professional. HHH heads off and Johnson sees someone who looks like Dynamite from behind. He turns the guy around thinking it’s Heder dressed up, but it’s Carlito dressed up. Johnson says he must be a Napoleon Dynamite fan. The fake teeth come out and Carlito says he’s never seen it before stomping off. Johnson looks very confused.

    – Commercial

    Promo for the Royal Rumble.

Jack Swagger out to the ring. Video of Swagger talking smack last week, challenging anyone to try to throw him over the top rope. Santino comes out and manages to eliminate Swagger with a reversal. Santino shocked himself. Swagger has a mic and says last week was a fluke. He’s an all American American American American. In the RR he’ll throw out anyone who gets in his path. He’s issuing another all American American Challenge. He tells Santino to get out there if he dares. Santino comes out to the stage dressed like Don Johnson from Miami Vice. He says there’s nothing more that he’s like than to go down and throw him over the top ropes again. He’s more than just a wrestler, he’s also the president of the IDJFC – the Italian Don Johnson Fan Club. Seeing that Don Johnson’s here tonight, he’s busy. But he found a more than suitable substitution. Out comes Mark Henry. Henry started a high five and Santino figured it out and slapped his hand.

Henry smiles as Swagger dances around. Swagger attacks Henry in the upper back a couple times, Henry just turns and stares. Henry picks Swagger up high and drops him from the ring.

    – Winner: Mark Henry

Swagger pitches a fit worthy of Christian when he was with DDP. Henry just smiles. Video of the drop from the ring.

Backstage a limo pulls up. The Bella twins climb out and then Heder. He tells the person in the limo to stay there until he says to come out (Bret Hart?). Heder says “Go Nashville!” One of the Bellas corrected him to tell him it’s Knoxville (WWE hasn’t updated their schedule, therefore I had the wrong location as well. I’m sorry for my massive screw up!)

    – Commercial

John Heder and Don Johnson out to the ring with the Bellas. Don gets the fans going. He says they’re thrilled to be hosting RAW. They know… Heder cut him off saying how awesome it is to have real life movie stars. Let’s hear it for movies! Not much response. Don says tonight’s main event will feature DX. Heder cuts on DX and says it’s not working for him. It’s not that DX isn’t great, they’re okay. They’re from southern Cali and have a new football coach. Since he started coaching at USC. He’s bringing out someone else who’s awesome, The Miz! Miz out to the ring. Miz says it’s nice to have actual celebrities as celebrity guest hosts. Miz thanks Heder for putting Miz in the RR. Miz says since they go way back, he thinks Heder should know that HHH said that Don should host alone tonight. Doesn’t HHH know that Heder’s movies have brought in over 300 million dollars? Heder says 358 million, that’s just domestic. Don offhandedly said Vice did that in a week. Miz says he has the utmost respect for Don. Back in the day Don was what Miz is now, the hottest thing on TV. Everyone wanted to be Crockett, they all wanted to be him. But then the guy who road his coat tails. Don says everyone remembers Tubbs! Miz says on RAW that have another name for him, MVP. Heder and Miz cut on the locals in an inane way. MVP’s music and out he comes. MVP says he’s from Miami and Don lived in Miami for a long time. He wants to apologize for him for having to be mixed up with this. And he wants to apologize to the WWE Universe for having to listen to Napoleon Dynamite and his sidekick Pedro. See, now MVP is officially in the RR. If he does nothing else, he’s throwing Miz out. As a matter of fact, why wait for the RR. Since Heder wants to be Miz’s buddy and dis the WWE Universe, then Heder’s being thrown out to. Big Show’s music. He comes out. Miz out to go after MVP. MVP punches Miz, but then Big Show takes out MVP. Heder says he and Big Show have the same agent and thought it would be good if he came down as a little insurance policy in case anything went sour. Heder then couldn’t figure out why DX gets to celebrate every night. Why Don’t the four of them celebrate? Don wants nothing to do with that. Heder tells him to go make out with Tubbs. Heder says he has a feeling about Miz and Big Show. It’s like the creation of a beautiful friendship. Let’s hear it for friendship.

• TNA Genesis PPV Results (1/17)

    TNA Genesis Results – 1/17/2009
    Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida
    Report by: Sean Hopkins

The pyro hits and Mike Tenay welcomes us to the first PPV of the Hogan/Bischoff era. Hogan’s music hits and he’s on his way down to the ring with Eric Bischoff. The Impact Zone looks packed and there is a traditional four-sided ring with a raised ramp leading to it. Hogan soaks up the cheers for a bit before welcoming the fans to the PPV. Hogan says on top of that, welcome to the brand new Impact Zone (which gets a lot of boos). Hogan says this is just the beginning as the crowd starts a ‘we want six sides’ chant. Hogan says six sides only got TNA so far, and they’re taking them the rest of the way. Hogan says there’s no more play-pen rings, and they’re changing it whether the fans like it or not. Hogan talks down Vince and the notion of ‘sports entertainment’. Bischoff says that nobody likes change, and it’s obvious by the reaction of the crowd. Bischoff says to get used to change because there’s a hell of a lot more coming. Hogan says, in closing, ‘What’chu gonna do Vince McMahon, now that TNA is coming for you’. Bischoff and Hogan exit the ring and head to the back.

Taz and Tenay get their chance to welcome us to the PPV, talking about how great the changes that Hogan and Bischoff are bringing. Tenay and Taz immediately begin talking about the Angle/Styles main event, before sending us down to the ring for the first match, the X Division Championship match.

    TNA X Division Championship Match
    – Amazing Red (c) vs. Brian Kendrick

Amazing Red is out to the ring first to a nice pop from the crowd. Brian Kendrick is the surprise opponent for Red! Kendrick gets a nice pop, and chant from the crowd. Kendrick starts things out with a kick, but Red avoids it. Kendrick takes Red down into an arm bar, but Red is able to work out into a hammerlock. Kendrick rolls through to break the hold. Both men lock up and Red ends up in yet another arm bar, courtesy of Kendrick. Kendrick changes it up into a camel clutch while hitting a couple of cross face blows on Red. Red fights up to his feet and both men jockey for position. Kendrick kicks Red in the head, sending him outside and into the barricade. Brooke Hogan is sitting ringside, urging on Red. Kendrick follows to the outside where he kicks away at Red’s leg. Back in the ring and Kendrick continues to work over Red’s leg with a stiff kick and a leg bar.

Kendrick hits a running kick to Red’s knee before choking away at him in the corner. Kendrick wraps Red’s leg up in the ropes, just wrenching away at his knee. Kendrick locks in a modified half crab, but Red makes it to the ropes, forcing him to break the hold. Kendrick continues his assault on Red’s knee, hanging it up in the ropes and kicking away. Kendrick climbs up to the second rope, but Red hits a beautiful spinning kick sending Kendrick to the floor. Red follows out with a front flip senton from the top rope out to the floor and on top of Kendrick. Red sends Kendrick back into the ring and goes up top for a shotgun missile dropkick, Red tries for the cover but Kendrick kicks out at two. Kendrick sends Red into the corner, but he eats Red’s boot twice. Red goes for a cross body, but Kendrick ducks and locks in another modified single leg Boston crab. Winner and STILL TNA X Division Champion: Amazing Red

Bischoff is backstage with Hogan, Hall, Waltman and Nash. Bischoff says Nash is under contract, but Waltman and Nash have to prove themselves. Hogan says these guys have to get real, this is their one shot and their might not be another, so they need to make things happen for themselves before they walk off. Hall says they need to destroy BMI tonight so he looks good. Waltman says what about him. Hall says he’s got to wait his turn. Hall and Waltman play a game of Rock Paper Scissors with Waltman coming out on top. Apparently that decides who Nash’s partner will be later tonight.

    Sean Morley vs. Daniels

Morley is out first to a decent reaction from the crowd. He gives his towel, along with a kiss, to Brooke Hogan. Morley says ‘Ladies, I’m here’, before presenting his first TNA films production which is apparently a full frontal production produced, directed and starring Morley. Daniels makes his way out to the ring next, to a bit more of a positive reaction from the crowd. Daniels gets a mic and says that’s his problem with Morley, because three days ago he kicks a hole in Morley, and now Morley is out talking about movies and innuendo. Daniels says this is TNA, and this is wrestling. Daniels says the last person Morley wants to meet on his first night is him. Daniels says tonight, he is Morley’s worst critic, and he gets in the ring and things start off.

Daniels bails to the outside immediately, forcing Morley to follow him. Morley tries to suplex Daniels into the ring, but Daniels counters and responds with a couple of quick strikes, Morley comes back with a couple of running knees to the midsection before hitting a Russian leg sweep. Morley hits Daniels in the ribs several times, focusing his attack. Morley hits a pumphandle gut buster that sends Daniels to the apron. Morley bends Daniels against the ropes before hitting Daniels in the ribs, but on the second attempt, Daniels hangs Morley up on the top rope.

Daniels locks in a modified triangle choke, but Morley gets to the ropes to force a break of the hold. Daniels hits a huge chop, and a palm thrust to the throat. Daniels hits a bulldog, hanging Morley up on the top rope, before he locks in a modified octopus and hitting a fall away kick to Morley’s head. Daniels hits a springboard moonsault, but it’s only good for two. Daniels chokes Morley on the middle rope, continually going back to it, no matter what the ref says. Daniels hits a kick to Morley’s chest. Morley begins to fight back with a couple of right hands and Morley begins to build momentum. Morley suplexes Daniels onto the top rope before hitting a modified sit out powerbomb that’s only good for two. Morley hits a double underhook butterfly suplex, but when he goes for a clothesline, Daniels ducks, hits an STO, and locks in the koji clutch.

Morley turns the submission into a pin, forcing Daniels to break the hold. Daniels hits an enzugiri, and another STO, but it’s only good for a near fall. Daniels hits a rock bottom, but when he goes for the BME, Morley rolls out of the way. Morley connects with a half nelson suplex before he goes to the top himself. Daniels stops Morley, crotching him on the top rope. Daniels tries for a top rope hurricarana, but Morley swats him away. Morley hits the Money Shot, and gets the three count.

    Winner: Sean Morley
