Seth Rollins Talks Curb Stomping Lesnar & Cena, HHH Following His Progress, Facing The Undertaker

Seth Rollins joined The Rack this past Thursday night, where he discussed what it was like to be in the ring and curb stomping both Brock Lesnar and John Cena on RAW, his thoughts on Smackdown moving to Thursdays, who is he looking forward to working with from NXT in the future, his favorite Smackdown moment and what it was like working with The Undertaker, his reaction to Randy Savage going into the Hall of Fame in 2015, what he likes to do on his days off and so much more.

What it was like to be standing over both Cena and Lesnar at the end of RAW: “You know, it felt good; those big nights you were referring to are starting to pile up here and I’m starting to have them more and more and more. Last night on RAW, surely, standing over both John Cena and the WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar, was a feat that, honestly, I don’t think there are any other men that can say they’ve done that; I might be the only one in the history of the WWE, so that’s quite monumental.”

On his championship Triple Threat match at the Royal Rumble: “My strategy for this match is to go in full boar, 100 percent, 110 percent, whatever you want to call it and try to win the match. If things don’t work out and I don’t end up winning, the odds are against me for sure, I have back-up plans. I always got a Plan B and that is my Money in the Bank briefcase. It’s an unprecedented situation; I don’t think it the history of the Money in the Bank briefcase contract scenario that you’ve had a challenger with two opportunities essentially to win the title, so it should be a very interesting Royal Rumble. I think the fans are going to be at the edge of their seats the whole time.”

What it’s like working with both Triple H and Stephanie McMahon on TV weekly: “Oh, they’re phenomenal; two of the greatest minds in the history of our industry. You’ve got one, born and bred a McMahon so she knows all there is to know about what we do and she knows all the little tricks of the trade. She sees things from a completely different perspective, so you have that. On the other hand, you have ‘The Cerebral Assassin’, a man who’s been WWE Champion multiple times, who is clearly the heir-apparent to the company itself and already running the ship for the most part. There are really no better mentors; if you’re not learning something every single day, every single time you go out there, then you’re really just making a mistake trying to progress yourself. If people have kept track over the past 6-8 months, they’ll have noticed a lot of improvements in my game, at least I have, and a lot of that is due to having Triple H and Stephanie on my side, nurturing me all the way through.”

On Triple H following his progress through NXT, The Shield and now: “Yeah, clearly, the man has an eye for talent, you know? It’s been good; NXT was a good experience for me. We were really the first group of guys who were involved in that project and if you look at what it’s become now, it’s pretty impressive to think about where it started and how it began, very humbly, in a warehouse in Tampa and now, basically, it’s its own brand. To have Triple H’s support, through and through the entire way, has meant more to me than people will ever understand. It’s really helped position me to where I want to be and helped me grow as a person and as a performer.”

Is there anyone in the new crop of NXT talent that he’s looking forward to facing in the future: “I have a lot of friends down there; a lot of people who I traveled the road with in my previous life and I think those guys, the Adrian Nevilles and Sami Zayns, Finn Balor, Hideo Itami, Kevin Overs; these are the guys obviously making a name for themselves now in NXT. There’s also a lot of young guys too, who are pushing the envelope as well, really trying to make a name for themselves in the shadow, a little bit, of some of those bigger names.

You’ve got someone like CJ Parker, who’s been down in NXT for a while making waves. You’ve got Tyler Breeze, who is on the cusp of something big and stuff like that. So, there’s a lot of talent down there; I’m looking forward to seeing how the landscape up here in the WWE looks like in 2-5 years, with all of those names I mentioned, up here working with us. It’s going to be a very interesting period for the future of WWE.”

If the shift of Smackdown to Thursdays gives people like yourself a chance to be the one the show is built around, like Edge and Undertaker in the past: “I would like to assume that both RAW and Smackdown will be built around me from this day forward, or maybe from the Royal Rumble forward. I talk a lot about how the future is now, well I’m not the future anymore; the present is upon us and I am a major part of that. Smackdown moving back to Thursday nights, where it originally began, is really exciting for me just because that’s the night I used to watch it when I was younger; all the stuff with The Rock, Edge and Christian, Eddie Guerrero and my *ahem* security guard Joey Mercury also played a huge role on Smackdown during that time as well. It’s an awesome move; I’m looking forward to reaching into another night in the week and just seeing what that brings and what that holds for us as a company moving forward. It’s going to be good for everybody involved.”

On his favorite Smackdown Moment: “Man, there’s a lot of really good ones; I would be hard pressed not to say that one of my own personal favorite moments is me powerbombing the Undertaker through a table, that’s pretty iconic as far as a Smackdown Moment gets. If I’m going to reach back in the vault, I’m going probably to the very first Smackdown with the Shawn Michaels superkick on the Rock, that was pretty awesome and I’m a big Shawn Michaels fan, so when Rock is going for the People’s Elbow and Shawn just clocked him in the tooth, I thought that was pretty sweet.”

What was it like finding out he’d get to work with the Undertaker on Smackdown: “It’s one of those things where you don’t even really think that’s ever going to happen to you in your career and not because.. I expected the level of success I have but I expected Undertaker to be long gone by the time I came around and the fact that he’s still here is a testament to him and the fact that we were able to, we in The Shield, were able to ascend to that level so quickly and get a chance to be in the ring with him before he stepped away is pretty awesome. Obviously, you know, he could still be around and maybe there’s a WrestleMania match for me and him in the future, but for now, I’ll definitely I’ll cherish those moments I got to spend in the ring with him.”

His thoughts on the announcement of Randy ‘Macho Man’ Savage for the 2015 WWE Hall of Fame Class: “Yeah, my only real thought is it’s about damn time; I know there were a lot of issue with getting him into the hall and stuff like that but I’m really glad, after all these years, people made the decision that it was the right thing to do and II think everybody knew that, it was dotting the I’s and crossing the t’s a little bit and I think they put their personal pride aside and made it well known that one of the greatest of all time, the Macho Man, deserves to be in the Hall of Fame and it’s about time. I’m glad to be involved in it in some way, shape or form; just to be part of the company while that happens is pretty cool.”

Robbie E Interview With Vince Russo: Talks Jersey Shore Gimmick, Focusing On His Character, TNA

Vince Russo hosted his podcast “The Swerve” from England via www.pyroandballyhoo.com. Robbie E of TNA and The Amazing Race was the special guest this week, and the highlights are below (audio audio available here):

Robbie spending 10 years on the indy scene before being discovered:

“I started wrestling at 16 and signed with TNA at 26. 10 years. I went through college. There wasn’t a moment when I slowed down. 2-3 shows a week. I did some WWE extra work: jobber matches, dark matches, tryouts, developmental systems. There were a lot of times where I was led on to believe I was going to sign a contract but it never happened…Other guys my size were getting signed. During that time, I was 160 lbs and I was very young when I was trying out, so I guess it wasn’t the right place or the right time.”

Robbie on starting with the Jersey Shore character:

“I wasn’t doing it period. I wasn’t doing it until you told me to spike my hair up. I never did a character until that afternoon. Never did one remotely related to Jersey Shore. I zero never remotely liked Jersey Shore; granted my real life was kind of like Jersey Shore probably. Wrestling character: I never had my hair up, never fist-pumped, nothing.”

Robbie on younger wrestlers not focusing on character as much:

“They forget the wrestling they watched when they were a kid. I don’t get why they do that. Everyone when they were younger had characters that were larger than life and polka dot shorts. I don’t know why people forget about that. Polka dot shorts is normal. It’s pro wrestling.”

Robbie on teaming up with Zema:

“Zema was an X-Division guy that did a lot of that stuff. Now that he’s our DJ, doesn’t wrestle as much and has more character, he said the last year of his life has been the best year of his life, in wrestling. He’s having the time of his life, appreciating it more so much and loving it so much more – being full character, goofing off as opposed to having an X-Division match and remembering so many things, getting knocked out.”

Listen to or watch the full podcast and interview where Robbie E talks a lot more about “Character vs. Wrestling”, teaming with Zema and Jessie, his TNA contract status, and much more.

During the free podcast this week, Russo also talks about Macho Man Randy Savage going into the WWE Hall of Fame this year and whether Hogan inducting him is a genuine gesture on Hogan’s part or the biggest rib in wrestling history.

The bonus video shoot interview with Robbie E, exclusively for the VIP section, has Russo questioning Robbie about The Amazing Race, how Robbie picked up Brooke Adams, why they broke up, and more. Chris Jericho Announces He’s Signed A New Deal With WWE

After making a surprise appearance at Saturday night’s WWE live event in Montgomery, Alabama, Chris Jericho revealed on Twitter that he’s signed a new deal with WWE that will have him working 16 shows for the company through March.

Jericho tweeted on Sunday afternoon:

It’s worth noting that all of the dates are weekend shows and none of the dates are Monday or Tuesday TV tapings.

During a recent interview with Slam.Canoe.Ca, Jericho talked about his decision to only work non-televised shows:

“[To do only live events] was my choice. I had some time off [between Fozzy tours], and I thought it would be fun to go back [on that schedule]. It’s like I’m the anti-Brock Lesnar.”

In his return to the ring last night, Jericho defeated Luke Harper in a singles match via pinfall after hitting the Codebreaker.

Backstage News On Who Is Scripting Roman Reigns’ Promos, Adam Rose Speaks, WWE Network Updates

– Within WWE, there has been a lot of talk in regards to the manner in which Roman Reigns’ promos have been scripted as of late. Dave Meltzer reported Wednesday in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that many people in the company are under the impression that Reigns’ promos have put him in ‘quicksand’ and aren’t helping him reach the next level at all.

After comparing himself to Superman on Raw, Reigns delivered another cartoon-inspired promo on SmackDown while speaking face-to-face with Seth Rollins. Take a line from Looney Tunes character Sylvester, Reigns said “Sufferin’ succotash.” Regarding this, Meltzer mentioned on Twitter that Reigns’ promos are being scripted by Vince McMahon.

– In the latest edition of “The Rose Garden,” Adam Rose addresses the actions of Cesaro and Tyson Kidd on Raw. To watch the segment, click here.

– New additions to the WWE Network include four episodes of Raw from 1996 (April 15, April 22, April 29 and May 6), the documentary portion of the The History of the World Heavyweight Championship DVD from 2009, Tuesday Night Titans (October 1, 1984) and Prime Time Wrestling (May 26, 1986).

Why Jerry Lawler Was Moved To SmackDown, WWE Polls Fans On Fired Superstars, Stephanie McMahon

– With SmackDown moving to Thursday nights on Syfy, WWE announced changes to the announce teams for both SmackDown and Raw yesterday. Beginning this Monday, Michael Cole, Booker T and John “Bradshaw” Layfield will handle play-by-play and color commentary on Raw. Then, when SmackDown debuts next Thursday on Syfy, Cole, Jerry “The King” Lawler and Byron Saxton will call the action—Tom Phillips is off the announce team. The broadcast team for WWE pay-per-view events will continue to feature Cole, Lawler and Layfield.

While this change appears sudden, in the case of Lawler, WWE officials have wanted to remove him from the broadcast booth at Raw “for a long time.”

“They wanted to get rid of Lawler on Raw for a long time, but after the heart attack, they figured they couldn’t,” stated Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer on the F4WOnline.com message board Thursday night in a thread about the announce team changes. “This relaunch of Smackdown gave them the chance.”

– The official WWE website has issued a poll asking fans which fired WWE Superstar they would bring back if allowed. With over 15,000 votes cast, Dolph Ziggler is leading the poll at 68%. Ryback follows at 26% with Erick Rowan following him at 7%.

– Stephanie McMahon and WWE Chief Financial Officer George A. Barrios will participate in a presentation at the 17th Annual Needham Growth Conference for investors in New York City on Tuesday. Their remarks are expected to being around 5:30 pm ET. You can listen to a live audio webcast on the presentation online at ir.corporate.wwe.com under Events & Presentations.

Chris Benoit Mentioned On WWE Network Show, Total Divas Preview Clip With The Bella Twins

– During this week’s episode of the Monday Night War looking back at the fall of WCW, Chris Benoit was mentioned by name. While footage featuring the late wrestler is featured in its original form on the WWE Network, this may be the first time where he was mentioned by name on an original program.

The subject of Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, Dean Malenko and Perry Saturn defecting to WWE in 2000 was addressed and a clip of the group debuting on the January 31, 2000 episode of Raw was shown with audio of Jim Ross mentioning all four by name. The accompanying clips, however, were focused on Guerrero, Malenko and Saturn.

Vince McMahon has said in the past that he is okay with acknowledging Benoit within a historical context, but not in a promotional manner.

“It’s not right to pretend he didn’t exist,” McMahon said in a 2009 interview with WWE Magazine when asked whether Benoit’s history can be acknowledged by the company. “It’s one thing to include him as part of a historical perspective, which I believe is okay, and it’s another thing to promote him, which is not okay.

“The situation is very similar to that of O.J. Simpson—despite his controversy, O.J. was still a part of the NFL scene. You can’t deny that he existed.”

– Here is a preview clip of this Sunday’s episode of Total Divas as Nikki and Brie Bella bring their personal issues to work when they get into an argument backstage.

“WWE, everybody dreams to go there. They say they don’t, they’re a liar and they’re in denial,” Kong said in response to whether she would return to either WWE or TNA if the door was open to. “TNA, I don’t know if you’ll ever see me there again. Though I appreciate what I did in TNA, I think I’m past that now.”

Backstage Fallout From WWE TLC – Unhappiness With The Show, Talent Meeting Held Today At Raw

Reddit.com user MetsFan4Ever, a former WWE backstage worker who still has ties to people in the organization, provided insight into the atmosphere backstage at Raw today at the Joe Louis Arena in Detroit, Michigan, following last night’s WWE TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs … and Stairs.

According to him, many people in the company are dissatisfied with how the show came off following the successful TakeOver: R Evolution and are hopeful this will lead to creative changes with WWE’s mainline product.

“While many knew it would be tough to top the NXT show, there were people who thought it could be pulled off,” he wrote. “There have been rumblings that some talent knew they couldn’t top NXT so in a silent protest in favor of Triple H, some superstars were described “mailing in” their matches last night. Many are in favor of Triple H and what he has done with the NXT product and feel it is time for Triple H to take the lead on the main roster.”

MetsFan4Ever added that locker room leader John Cena hosted a talent meeting this afternoon that was described as “forceful yet calm.” Cena stressed that a silent protest will not help matters. Instead, Cena feels they should step up their performance in order for their point to be proven.

  • Backstage Report From WWE TLC, Emma Makes Pancakes (Video), Dean Ambrose-Bray Wyatt Poll

    – Reddit.com user MetsFan4Ever, a former WWE backstage worker, offered insight into the atmosphere backstage at the Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland, Ohio for tonight’s WWE Tables, Ladders and Chairs … and Stairs event following NXT: R Evolution.

He wrote, “I’m told tensions are at a fever pitch and have been all day. Many guys on the card tonight want to go out of their way to be the match of the night. The feeling is that a small company rivalry has started between the main roster and the NXT roster. Many agree that is good for all sides involved.

“What is usually a lighter atmosphere many hours before doors open is not the case today. I’m told that it is very quiet backstage and that talent is very focused on the show tonight. They know the NXT show is going to be considered “show of the year” among many and they want this TLC show to rival or top it.

“Many of the main matches have already been rehearsed. There was a giant black curtain covering the ringside area so nobody outside of the main players know what is going to happen tonight.”

Conflicting Reports On Former WWE Star Jimmy Del Ray’s Cause of Death

It was reported earlier today that David Ferrier, best known for his appearances in the early 1990s in the World Wrestling Federation as one-half of the Heavenly Bodies as “Gigolo” Jimmy Del Ray, passed away Saturday night at the age of 52. There are conflicting reports on the nature of his death.

PWInsider.com broke news of Ferrier’s death this morning, reporting that he is believed to have died from a heart attack. F4WOnline.com, however, is reporting this afternoon that he died from injuries in an automobile accident.

According to Dave Meltzer, Ferrier was driving near the Florida State Fairgrounds in Tampa at about 6:10 p.m. on Saturday night when he went over a grass shoulder “for unknown reasons” and crashed into a lamp post. He was transported to Tampa General Hospital, where he died from injuries suffered in the accident.

Ferrier began his career in 1985 for Florida Championship Wrestling, where he adopted the name Jimmy Backlund. He mostly competed as preliminary wrestler during the territorial days and later on in the independents, as well as in Japan for Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling. He joined Smoky Mountain Wrestling in 1993, where he replaced Stan Lane as one-half of the Heavenly Bodies with Tom Prichard after Lane retired from the squared circle to become a commentator for the World Wrestling Federation. The Heavenly Bodies were managed by James E. Cornette, and won the SMW Tag Team Championship on three occasions. During this time with he was branded with the “Gigolo” moniker. While Del Ray was an agile and able wrestler, he had a slightly pudgy midsection that shook, or “jiggled” when he did a taunting dance.

Alongside Cornette, the Heavenly Bodies debuted in the World Wrestling Federation in the summer of 1993, and would challenge the Steiner Brothers for the World Tag Team Championship—they were defeated. At the 1993 Survivor Series in the Boston Garden, the Heavenly Bodies faced The Rock ‘n’ Roll Express for the SMW Tag Team Championship. It was the first time where a championship recognized by another organization was defended on the show.

The Heavenly Bodies were generally used as a heel tag team for early matches on cards, where they would often put over babyface tandems. The duo was split in August 1995 after Del Ray was released from his contract. It was rumored at the time that an incident with a fan at a hotel led to his dismissal.

Del Ray soon made a few appearances for Extreme Championship Wrestling alongside Prichard and wound up in World Championship Wrestling in October 1996 under the name Jimmy Graffiti, where he competed for two months. He made a few appearances on WCW Monday Nitro and participated in the three-ring, sixty-man “World War 3” battle royal before a knee injury forced him to retire the following year.

After retiring, he worked as an instructor for Steve Keirn’s Florida professional wrestling school and would occasionally appear at area independent shows to manage a new Heavenly Bodies tag team. By the early 2000s, he had moved on from the wrestling industry and was running a hardwood flooring company in Tampa, Florida.

Nikki Bella’s Promo On SmackDown Heavily Edited – Nikki And John Cena React

After defeating Emma on SmackDown, Divas Champion Nikki Bella cut a passionate promo on AJ Lee that was greatly edited on the Syfy broadcast. According to a live account from Tuesday’s taping in Fort Wayne, Indiana, she received some applause from the audience when she was done.

Both Bella and Cena reacted to the promo being edited via Twitter.

What could be heard is Bella venting about Lee telling her “sob story” over and over again when she herself has worked harder and is what a champion should look like. To Bella, Lee will “always be that pathetic manipulative little girl from New Jersey.”

WWE Reaction To CM Punk Interview, Vince McMahon Unhappy, Triple H Furious

Nearly ten months after his final appearance for WWE, CM Punk finally addressed the circumstances behind his departure from the sports-entertainment organization in an explosive two-hour interview with Colt Cabana on the Art of Wrestling podcast. On Figure Four Daily on F4WOnline.com on Friday, Bryan Alvarez offered insight on the reaction around WWE to the former Superstar’s controversial remarks (click here to listen).

Even with Punk having a number of detractors in WWE, Alvarez was told that virtually everybody in WWE who listened to the podcast “thought it was awesome.”

Alvarez said, “Now if you know CM Punk, CM Punk is a guy who has his lovers—maybe that’s the wrong word—he has his fans, and he has his detractors. There’s a group of people in WWE who are big fans of CM Punk, and there are people in WWE who just can’t stand the guy. When he left, I heard from people that were like, ‘Thank God this guy has left! He drove us crazy. He was so angry.’ When he did his podcast with Colt Cabana, he admitted that at the end, he was actually sorry for how many times he told people to fuck off. When it happened, I had been told from people that he was so miserable, he was such as a crabby individual, they were glad he was finally gone out of the locker room because they couldn’t handle him anymore. Now with that said, the impression that I got was, even people who did not like CM Punk, even people who really thought he was a miserable guy and were not CM Punk’s fans in the slightest, they were fans of a lot of the stuff that he talked about in the podcast.”

He continued, “It is true, there are a lot of guys in the company who are afraid to speak out, they’re afraid to say anything, they’re afraid to approach management, they’re afraid to ask questions, and CM Punk got a lot of that out in the podcast. And he opened a lot of people’s eyes that didn’t know anything about what goes on internally in WWE. So there were even people that don’t like CM Punk and don’t want him back in the company, who are happy that he did this podcast and said everything that he said.”

Alvarez said Vince McMahon is upset with Punk, but he’s not “fuming.” With the WWE Network airing a live “Stone Cold” Steve Austin podcast with the WWE Chairman and CEO immediately following Raw next Monday, Alvarez was told that it is very unlikely that he will talk about the matter in-depth. If he does, the feeling is that he will offer a “corporate answer.”

Paul “Triple H” Levesque was among those hit the hardest in Punk’s two-hour long speech as The Straight Edge Superstar addressed his issues with the WWE executive throughout the show. During his meeting with Levesque and McMahon that led to his exit from WWE, Punk went off on Levesque for not putting him over in 2011 when he was riding high on the momentum from his infamous “pipe bomb” promo in Las Vegas, Nevada. Upon being told by McMahon that he would be wrestling Levesque in a ‘main event’ at WrestleMania 30, Punk recalled turning to Hunter to say, ‘All due respect, I do not need to wrestle you, you need to wrestle me. I do not want to wrestle you. I seriously resent you for not putting me over three years ago when you should have. That would have been best for business but you had to fucking come in and squash it. And then I had to lose to fucking Truth and Miz. It didn’t make any business sense then, it doesn’t make any business sense now, and I am in a position now where I can tell you that I don’t have to nor do I want to wrestle you at WrestleMania. I don’t care if I was supposed to win.'”

Punk then noted, “Which I was. I didn’t care. I didn’t want to give him the fucking privilege. I said a lot of shit in there. I told them again and Hunter, he was gritting his teeth and I knew… he never liked me. It’s one of those situations where you always hear those stories in the dirt sheets about ‘Hunter says this about Punk’ and all this negative stuff but me and him in a room together? Never any good vibes. Always negative, the way he would always look sideways at me, the way he always treated me.”

According to Alvarez, Levesque is furious with Punk over his remarks. He said he received a text message from a person in WWE reading ‘Triple H wants to kill Punk.'”

Alvarez added that Levesque, as well his wife, Stephanie McMahon, have ‘an abject hatred’ for Punk. He is also considered to be on their no-call list.

WWE officials are also extremely unhappy with Cabana. Cabana, who was being courted by the organization for an announcing role as recently as last year. He is said to be on their “shitlist.”
