Taeler Hendrix Says Dixie Carter Told Her She Was Too “Heavy” To Appear On TNA Television

Taeler Hendrix alleged in an interview over the weekend that TNA Wrestling President Dixie Carter felt she was too “heavy” to be on television.

Carter’s reaction was in response to Hendrix’s match against Mickie James on the June 6 episode of Impact Wrestling—her final bout for the organization.

“I do have my qualms. Don’t tell me on my birthday that I’m “heavy” to be on TV,” Hendrix said about Carter on The Greg DeMarco Show. “I’m a size three, that’s not fat at all! I’m a role model for young girls, there’s nothing plastic about me.”

Compared to her figure the year prior, Hendrix felt she was “too skinny,” noting that she “got really skinny just to get on television.” She continued, “Someone said I looked like a skeleton, and then I started looking at my pictures and I was like “Oh my God, I really do!” I’m taller than [most female wrestlers] but I’m not bigger than them.”

Hendrix also revealed that she put on weight following a recent cancer scare.

“On top of that, my cancer stuff came back. I had no choice to gain weight, and I’m really happy that I did,” said Hendrix. “What I’m battling right now is cervical cancer—and when I say battling I mean I’m trying to not get it. I wasn”t setting a good example. I felt like I was a hypocrite. I would rather be healthy and stay cancer free.”

Hendrix also addressed her departure from TNA Wrestling, the mood in Ohio Valley Wrestling, Velvet Sky and other topics. Additional highlights from the interview are as follows:

Her departure from TNA Wrestling: “It was kind of a whirlwind … a long time in the making … I was super-duper unhappy … the All-American Dream … BAM! Hit in the face! It’s not happening girl, wake up! I got papers in the mail to re-sign for another year in developmental at OVW for TNA … Before I could tell them that I wouldn’t re-sign, I got the call the day before my contract expired to tell me I was released. … Maybe they can use that spot for someone they actually know what they want to do with. … I’m not offended—I’m a lot happier.”

Whether the mood in Ohio Valley Wrestling has changed since the recent TNA releases: “Yes, actually. Now that I’m not signed anymore, I think I’m enjoying it more—from an OVW standpoint. … It’s home… There’s wrestling every single week, you can’t get more work than that. … I am loving my character right now, she’s awesome. … She’s like that girl we all hated in high school. … A lot of people who were released, they’re gone.”

Velvet Sky: “She has found a way to stick it out … and she was released at one point. … Velvet Sky is money. … And if I have someone who makes me money, I’m going to keep them around. … She’s not the best wrestler in the world, but neither am I. … She makes money. … Velvet Sky has some of the most loyal fans in the world. … She has a great personality, in ring and out. … And you know what? She’s gotten much better. … I’m a fan—she can keep letting the pigeons loose. … That girl’s a hot commodity.”

Hendrix also discusses the online reaction to her release, her upcoming appearances for Shine Wrestling, how she keeps finding family in wrestling, her goals outside of the professional wrestling industry and more. To listen to the interview, click here.

Reason For Rob Van Dam’s Quick Loss To Alberto Del Rio, Mick Foley Praises Bray Wyatt & Damien Sandow

– On Friday’s SmackDown broadcast (taped Wednesday in Corpus Christi, Texas), Rob Van Dam lost in under a minute to Alberto Del Rio after the ECW Original was distracted by the match official, leading the World Heavyweight Champion to strike him with brutal kick to the face. Jim Ross Weighs In On Next Year’s WWE HOF Class, Undersized Wrestlers, Punk & Heyman’s Promos

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has published a new blog on his official website where he addressed such topics as next year’s WWE Hall of Fame class, CM Punk and Paul Heyman’s verbal talent, and what it takes for an undersized wrestler to succeed in WWE. Highlights from the post are as follows:

Next year’s WWE Hall of Class: “It seems as if I never stop getting questions on who will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame class of 2014 in New Orleans. Obviously, there are a few former Mid South Wrestling stars that would be viable candidates including Danny Hodge, who is in every wrestling Hall of Fame known to man, I think, the Fabulous Freebirds, and Dr. Death Steve Williams to name a few that come off the top of my biased brain.”

Undersized wrestlers succeeding in WWE: “Speaking of American, tackle football and WWE, I compare the red hot, @WWEDanielBryan to undersized superstars Wes Welker of the Broncos and Danny Amendola of the Patriots who are both smaller receivers with huge talent and who don’t realize that they aren’t the biggest dogs in the hunt. Skill set, passion, execution, character and professionalism cannot be measured by inches and pounds. Do smaller guys, whether it be in WWE or the NFL, etc have to be highly skilled to compensate for their physical measurables? Absolutely. But it isn’t an impossible feat as we have seen. ‘Refusing to fail’ cannot become one’s slogan but must become their way of life in professions where the “size matters” philosophy is often times over utilized.”

Advice for young talent looking to succeed in the professional wrestling industry: “For NXT talents who may read my blogs and any other young talents who desire a career in WWE, you cannot and will not be successful if you only invest in yourself while you are “at work.” DVD study, reading books on the biz, success stories, self help books, regular gym workouts, etc are not optional in my view but are essential. That also includes being personally responsible with one’s finances to the extend of filing and paying one’s independent contract taxes every quarter. If one isn’t mature and professional enough to handle the very basic elements of personal finance, which is a law BTW, how can the same person be depended upon to became a viable member of the locker room over the long haul? Personal responsibility is a multi faceted element in the total development of a sports entertainer. Uncle Sam rarely loses a match.”

CM Punk and Paul Heyman’s verbal talent: “Was asked on my weekly radio hit on yahoosportsradio.com today with @SeanPendergast about the promo skills of @CMPunk and @HeymanHustle this past Monday on RAW. Quite simply, Heyman and Punk are at the top of the food chain when it comes to delivering, believeable, organic, suspend-my-disbelief. verbal presentations. They are themselves. They are passionate and they believe what they are saying to be absolute fact. Young wrestlers who can execute their promos in the same manner increase their chances to find success and reach the Promised Land. A bad actor playing the role of a pro wrestler cannot or will not succeed, at least in my opinion. Bottom line for young talents….embellish who you naturally are and let the chips fall where they may.”

A few hours after the video was posted, the acclaimed independent wrestler hinted through Twitter at something occurring on August 1.

“By the way, how many days til #August1?” he wrote.

Tammy Sytch Says She’s Not Doing Prostitution, Watch The Wyatt Family Entrance Video, More

Was I your TEENAGE CRUSH?? Now is your chance to make that dream a REALITY!!!”

News of her idea garnered a lot of negative feedback from online commentators, with some comparing it to prostitution. She responded to the naysayers in a subsequent post on Facebook.

– WWE Hall of Famer Tammy “Sunny” Sytch generated another stir this past week by announcing she will be posing with fans in a bed for photo-ops at a wrestling convention in October. She stated on Facebook, “Your choice: for $50 you get to have your photo taken laying next to me in bed, and for $75 you can have your photo taken ‘spooning’ or with me lying my head on your chest! News of her idea garnered a lot of negative feedback from online commentators, with some comparing it to prostitution. She responded to the naysayers in a subsequent post on Facebook.

“I just love how some people are comparing the Photo Op at LOTR to prostitution… Im NOT HAVING SEX WITH YOU, YOU IDIOTS!!” she wrote. “We are simply smiling for a photo. When every TNA Knockout and former Diva offers the same Photo Op at conventions over the next year, will you say the same thing? NO. But because I am the Original, once again, I get scrutinized. Just face it…its brilliant. Just like I was the first one to do a Bikini Photo Op in Charlotte a couple years ago….then EVERYONE jumped into their bikinis. If you dont like it, dont buy it. Its that simple…but GET OVER IT!”

She continued, “Seriously, what would be the difference if it was on a couch? at a dinner table? Poolside? You know when you go to an amusement park, and you can get your picture taken dressed up in Wild West wear, youre not really zoomed back to the year 1785!! ITS THE ILLUSION OF A PHOTO!!!!

“I got into this business when every girl out there thought it was “corny” or “gay”…now there are thousands of girls BEGGING for a chance to do what I have done…. Same thing goes with my photo op ideas…. everyone will bash it, but then 30 other girls will do it on a convention after me…. sheesh. Get original! oh wait, thats what I do.”

In a follow-up post today, Sytch dubbed herself “the Queen of Controversy,” and added, “I wonder what I can conjour up next.”

– As seen Monday night on Raw, the Wyatt Family made their much-anticipated debut by brutally attacking Kane. The official YouTube account of WWE has already released their entrance video, which you can watch below.

Matt Morgan Reportedly Granted His Contractual Release From TNA Wrestling

Matt Morgan’s six-year tenure with TNA Wrestling has come to an end as he was granted his release from the organization on Tuesday, according to ProWrestling.net. He requested his release from the company one month ago, which was well known among his colleagues.

Morgan was excluded from the annual Bound for Glory Series and had only appeared on television once in the last month—losing a Four-way Bound for Glory Series Qualifying Match to Magnus on the June 13 episode of Impact Wrestling.

On the April 25 episode of Impact Wrestling, Morgan confronted Hulk Hogan and offered his services to take out the Aces and Eights, in exchange for being named the number one contender for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship at Slammiversary. After having his request denied, Morgan faced Sting the following week in a Number One Contender’s Match for the World Heavyweight Championship, which Sting won after locking Morgan in the Scorpion Deathlock. Morgan subsequently disappeared from television before returning for the Bound for Glory Series Qualifying Match.

Despite repeated vows to capture the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, Morgan’s plan ultimately did not come to fruition. His lone runs with gold were two TNA World Tag Team Championship reigns. He stated in an interview last year of his desire to become World Champion, “Winning the Tag Team Championship is ultra-important and anyone who has those titles should have a lot of pride in wearing them. But at the same time, I got into the pro-wrestling for one reason and that’s to be the top dog and to be the World Champion. I know it sounds like a saying or a catch-phrase but this is what I truly believe. I came out of my mom’s womb a future world’s champion. And I’m sick of waiting.”

Update On Stacy Keibler-George Clooney’s Break-up, Whatever Happened To Bushwhacker Luke?, More

– Following reports that Stacy Keibler and actor George Clooney had split as a couple, the former WWE Diva was a top-trending topic on Yahoo.com late Monday and early Tuesday. The break-up was sparked by both individuals wanting “different things in life,” according to People.com.

“Stacy called it quits. She wants to have children and a family someday. She knows where George stands on that,” a source close to the couple told People.com. “They talked and they quietly stopped being a couple several weeks ago.”

Clearwater Gazette recently caught up with Luke Williams of The Bushwhackers, who is now the proud owner of a gym in Clearwater, Florida, known as Clearwater Beach Fitness.

Williams paid a visit to Clearwater late last year and was encouraged by Hulk Hogan to move to the area. As he was searching for a gym to work out at, he was offered the opportunity to buy the area beach gym.

Formerly known as Muscle Beach Fitness, Williams has given the gym a major makeover, and has even equipped it with a few machines that once belonged to “The Hulkster.” Click here for additional details on the gym, as well as Williams’ background.

Chris Sabin On Challenging For The World Title, His Triple Threat Match On Last Week’s Impact

Chris Sabin appeared as a guest on the latest edition of Busted Open Radio, hosted by Doug Mortman and Dave LaGreca (Busted Open Radio airs every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Sirius 94 and XM 208), where he addressed a number of topics. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

His Triple Threat Match on Impact with Austin Aries and Manik: “Well, yeah it ended up being that way, Sabin vs. Aries thanks to Aces and Eights interfering of course as they usually do. Luckily the Main Event Mafia came out there and kept them at bay so I was able to just be—after they injured TJ or Manik whichever name you want to go by now. After they injured him, and we were able to actually have a wrestling match with no interference, so that was—that was something special to me because it was just a straight up wrestling match. And we got to do it just one on one and you don’t get to see many one on one in the X division nowadays with the three way rule. So it was pretty cool.”

Doing the “Hail Sabin” off the second rope: “Yeah it was reckless. Obviously we beat each other up pretty bad but you know you had to. The stakes were huge, it was for the X division title and Destination X is only a couple weeks away. And whoever has the X division title when that event rolls around can exchange it for a shot at the World Heavyweight Title. So obviously you could see how much it meant to me and Austin in the ring.”

The Triple Threat Match being a possible contender for Match of the Year and people not seeing it because it was on a holiday: “Well I mean if people didn’t get to see it hopefully they got to DVR it or record it or whatever and watch it later. If they can’t then hopefully it at least created some sort of buzz around the show. You know what I mean, that people will want to tune into the feature because hopefully they can see more matches between myself and Aries again.”

Coming back, winning the title, losing the title and then winning again creating the buzz: “I think so too. I think that all the twists and turns makes everything unexpected. It makes you anticipate seeing what’s next. It makes you want to see the show. Yeah I think that just the last couple of months have been really good and I have been really enjoying everything I have been doing.”

If there was ever any doubt that he would be in a position to challenge for the World Heavyweight Title again: “I’ve never been in this position before, really. I’ve never had a World Title shot actually. I’ve been in TNA for over ten years and have never gone for the World Title once. So this is—I’m happy just to be in this position. I’m happy to see that my hard work, everything that all my dedication over the last ten years is starting to pay off.”

Impact Wrestling Draws Lowest Rating Since Thanksgiving, Can Gail Kim Get On The List?

– Thursday’s Independence Day edition of TNA Wrestling’s Impact Wrestling scored a 0.78 cable rating, its lowest since Thanksgiving. This figure is down fifteen percent from the prior week’s program, which drew a 0.92 cable rating.

While Thursday’s show was the lowest-rated episode of the year, it was not the least-watched episode of the year. Joey Ryan Discusses His Release From TNA, Reveals The Gut Check Process, Teaming With Matt Morgan

Joey Ryan spoke to ITRLive concerning his time in TNA and subsequent release from the organization last week. Below is an extensive recap:

How he got into TNA: “Through David Lagana. I worked with David Lagana in a few places actually Ring of Honor, NWA Hollywood and then he booked me for Ring Ka King in India. Then he got hired to be a writer in TNA and they were looking for guys. He suggested me to Al Snow and Al Snow saw footage of me and decided to make me a GutCheck contestant.”

“It kind of happened quickly. They called me up and Al Snow asked if I would be interested and I said yes. He said, “Alright, I’ll see you next week”. There wasn’t anything I had to sit on really.”

On TNA Gut Check: “They literally don’t tell you anything. I was the second ever guy to do GutCheck. The first GutCheck was Alex Silva. There was that whole thing where Ric Flair changed his decision on Alex Silva. You see, I don’t know how much of that is really a shoot or not. I think they brought me in particularly to be a “No” because they just needed somebody from the indys to make this seem more legitimate and told “no.” I think that was a work on their part.

“I think when I wrestled and I had a good match against Austin Aries, thank God I had to wrestle Austin Aries, then I came in and did my promos and stuff like that, even before I was in front of the judges, they weren’t telling me I was going to get a “No”, but I had a few people telling me things. Like Eric Bischoff and Hulk Hogan came up to me and said, “Hey, we like your look, we think you are good. No matter what happens out there, we want to do something with you hopefully down the line.” They were hinting that I was going to get a “No” vote.

“I was already going in there portraying a heel character so I knew going into this that I wasn’t just going to go out there, be told “No” and walk away with my tail between my legs. I’m going to be adamant about it. I was going to be myself, a guy who has been told “No” for the last 12 years by major companies.

“After I did that promo, there was talk of me going around. They were saying to themselves, “How can we use this guy?” Before that, there was nothing planned for me.”

Backstage following the Gut Check segment: “Well I don’t know if they do this anymore but there were cameras all over the place. Everyone was still filming me. I had an argument with Al Snow in the back. Was it a worked shoot? I don’t know. He was yelling at me, I thought it was pretty intense. I knew cameras were on too so I wasn’t sure.

“Once the cameras cut, Eric Bischoff approached me and told me, “That was incredible! That’s what the segment should be! That’s what live TV is all about!” He has a producer’s mind. He was the one who came up to me and was the most vocal about it all.”

On Taz backstage following the Gut Check: “Taz is kind of a hard-ass. I think he knew but I don’t think he liked me right off the bat because of that. He’s a prideful person, he is very proud of his wrestling and I was bad-mouthing his wrestling. I think he got to the point where he realized that I was doing anything I could to get a job.”

On signing with TNA: “I actually got a call from Bruce Prichard the next day saying, “We got a contract for you”. I signed it and faxed it back to them. At that point, I don’t really know if they knew where the storyline was going to go at that point. They just wanted to capitalize on any hype that happened.

On teaming With Matt Morgan: “Don’t know, it was a little hard to pull off because Matt is this unstoppable monster. I’m just this small guy. Matt would just look stupid if I just keep costing him all of these wins. I don’t think it went the way they planned it. I don’t know if this didn’t go the way they planned or if they just didn’t think about how long they could keep this up. It just gets to the point where you think, how long is Matt going to stick with this guy that isn’t winning.

“We were tagging against Chavo and Hernandez. I think they used me as a fall guy to keep Matt Morgan protected.”

On the negative rumors about TNA contracts: “I had a great contract. I got a monthly salary and a bonus whenever I did wrestle. So yeah, I had a great contract. They said, “Hey, I want to pay you” and I said, “Great, I like getting paid.”

On his release from TNA: “I knew there had been some office cuts and to be honest, I knew after the Matt Morgan stuff as they used me so sparingly. I think I did a PPV match that was unannounced. I did the referee stuff with the Knockouts. Then I did the random X-division 3-way match so. When I wasn’t being used, I was at home collecting paychecks, so I kind of knew that this was too good to be true. They are paying me to sit at home for months now.

“Part of me said, I know Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff like me so there’s some pull there so maybe they are waiting to come up with something for me. I got the hint myself when I was just sitting at home getting paid.”

On being notified of his release: “Al Snow called me and said “This isn’t anything against you or your work, this is just budget cuts”. I know they are on the road now and that’s much more expensive. I think they are just trying to make the company as profitable as possible.

“It was a decision they had to make. They had to cut guys without affecting the current storylines. I’m not bitter about it. I understand why. I don’t have anything bad to say about anyone there. It’s just a business thing.”
