WWE Launching Saturday Morning Show In Two Weeks

WWE will launch a Saturday morning program geared towards children on August 25, Los Angeles Time reports.

In two weeks, Saban Brands will launch Vortexx, a five-hour block of original children’s programming aimed at young boys. The slate of shows will air on the CW television network, with WWE Saturday Morning Slam anchoring the block.

The half-hour program will feature one wrestling match a week, as well as Superstar profiles, behind-the-scenes footage and anti-bullying messages via ‘be a STAR.’

Saban Brands approached WWE about doing the show after executives noticed toys featuring WWE Superstars were among the best-selling items. According to Los Angeles Times, WWE’s research shows that children, including a “healthy contingent” of boys younger than 12, consist of 22% of their viewing audience. Saban and WWE are hoping to capitalize on the data with Saturday Morning Slam.

Eric Pankowski, senior vice president for WWE creative and development, said the organization is aware of potential media concerns of violence airing on a program geared toward children.

“We are very sensitive to the fact that we are speaking to an audience of children,” said Pankowski. “We want to make sure that the content that we put on at 10 o’clock on Saturday morning is appropriate for younger audiences.”

Knockout On Her Way Out Of TNA?, Tessmacher Plays Games

Jericho Takes Offense To Nash’s Remarks, Starts Twitter Fight

Grantland.com published a lengthy article Tuesday on the life and controversial wrestling career of Kevin Nash with the six-time world champion notably reiterating his stance on “Vanilla Midgets,” a dismissive term he used behind-the-scenes in the late ’90s in World Championship Wrestling to describe small-statured, gifted technical wrestlers such as Chris Benoit and Eddie Guerrero.

Nash said the professional wrestling industry died at WrestleMania XX when the pay-per-view event concluded with Benoit and Guerrero—both of whom were under six-feet-tall—reigning atop as world champions and emotionally celebrating. Chris Jericho, who worked his way up the wrestling ranks alongside Benoit and Guerrero, publicly took offense to Nash’s remarks and responded with another commonly used stance.

Jericho tweeted late Tuesday evening:

The oft-used point originated from Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer, who has repeated stated over the years that WWE had its worst financial period in company history in 1995 when Nash held the WWF Championship as Diesel.

Nash responded to Jericho’s tweet minutes later, writing:

https://twitter.com/realkevinnash/status/233066381141213184

Nash’s last insult is in reference to Jericho being the first contestant to be eliminated in the 2006 Fox Television singing reality show Celebrity Duets.

Jericho quickly shot back:

To recap, Nash’s interview comments triggering Jericho’s rebuttal were:

“When Benoit and Guerrero hugged [at the end of WrestleMania XX], that was the end of the business. Has business been the same since that WrestleMania? Has it come close to the Austin era? Has it come close to the nWo or the Hogan era? You put two fucking guys that were great workers that were the same height as the fucking referees, and I’m sorry, man. Are you going to watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch dick? Even if you’re not gay, you will not watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch dick. That’s not the standard in porno films. So you put a 5-foot-7 guy as your world champion.”

Why The “Scratch” Logo Is No Longer Blurred, How Old Is Sable?

– For the past ten years, video content from WWE’s “Attitude Era” (1998–2002) has been edited due to a lawsuit with the World Wildlife Fund over the WWF initials. All WWF “scratch” logos and references to the initials had to be blurred or edited out. This directive has now changed, at least in part.

In regards to the former “scratch” logo appearing unaltered in video packages in recent weeks, use of the symbol in flashback sequences is permitted after the organization’s legal proceedings with the World Wildlife Fund were settled in the last quarter. However, it is unclear whether the permission extends to complete matches and other archival footage.

Meanwhile, WWE.com published a photo gallery Tuesday chronicling the long line of Presidents, Commissioners and General Managers that have ruled over sports-entertainment and a shot of Mick Foley donning a T-shirt with the WWF “scratch” logo on display is shown.

– Former WWE Women’s Champion Sable, wife of WWE Superstar Brock Lesnar, turns 45-years-old on Wednesday. Though her age has come into question over the years, Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer noted in her $110 million lawsuit against WWE in 1999 (citing allegations of sexual harassment and unsafe working conditions) that she listed herself as being born on August 8, 1967. Therefore, she was 28-years-old when she joined the sports-entertainment organization in 1996 and 35 when she returned in 2003.

Fans have speculated that with Lesnar’s renewed partnership with WWE, the legendary Diva could return to television as well. That, however, is believed to be highly unlikely. According to people close to the couple, she has absolutely no desire to return to the spotlight and is very content on being a homebody.

Nicknamed “The French Stallion,” La Ruffa is a top wrestler in Europe. He is a product of former WWE wrestler Lance Storm’s Storm Wrestling Academy and was featured on the premiere season of the World of Hurt reality television series in Canada. La Ruffa has competed in a WWE ring before as he was an opponent of Big Show’s in a 3-on-1 Handicap Match last November.

*Spoilers* WWE SmackDown Taping Results For Friday

Booker T came out and discussed Sheamus stealing Alberto Del Rio’s car at Raw. He said he wanted an apology from Sheamus, who made his entrance and apologized. Del Rio interrupted and wanted to press charges. He insulted Sheamus and got in Booker’s face. Booker announced Sheamus vs. Del Rio for the World Hvt. Championship will take place on tonight’s show.

1. Sin Cara defeated Cody Rhodes. Rhodes said Sin Cara wears a mask due to him being ugly and cockeyed. They used the stupid Sin Cara mood lighting again. A good match. Cody kept trying to get the mask off of Sin Cara, but it eventually led to him being rolled up for the pin.

2. Christian defeated Antonio Cesaro. Antonio said victory in five languages.
Christian was way over. Good match back and forth match. Cesaro shows promise. Christian speared Cesaro and got the win. Cesaro beat up Christian after the match.

3. Randy Orton defeated Jack Swagger. Orton was in control from start to finish in the short match, which ended with an RKO.

Booker T and Teddy Long spoke in an office backstage until they were interrupted by Tyler Reks and Curt Hawkins, who asked them about opportunities. Booker said they have the look, but they can’t seem to get the job done by beating Ryback. Booker said he wants A-plus talent.

4. Jinder Mahal beat a pair of local wrestlers. After the match, Ryback entered and ran off Jinder. Ryback demolished the local wrestlers. The crowd was very into the “Feed Me More” chant.

Jericho introduced The Highlight Reel but was interrupted by Vickie Guerrero. Jericho called her Dolph Ziggler’s mother. Dolph didn’t show for the interview so Vickie stood in. Vickie threatened to walk off show. There was a recap of Dolph losing on Raw with the Tout finish. Good back and forth mic work. Well kinda, Jericho was good. He claimed that Y2J is back. Ziggler jumped the barricade and attacked Jericho from behind. Ziggler caught him with the Zigzag and then hit him with the Money in the Bank briefcase.

5. The Primetime Players (w/A.W.) defeated Primo and Epico by DQ to become No. 1 contenders to the WWE Tag Titles. Kofi Kingston and R-Truth were on commentary. There was no sign of Rosa Mendes. A.W. threw water of Kofi and Truth. The tag champs beat down AW in the ring until he escaped. The Players won the tag match via DQ. Primo and Epico looked upset with Kofi and Truth for costing them the match. Possible triple threat for the tag titles?

Eve attempted to sweet talk Booker into giving her a job, but Booker said nothing is available. Kaitlyn entered the room. She will face Eve next week with the winner of the match becoming Booker’s assistant.

6. Rey Mysterio defeated The Miz in a non-title match. A very good backd and forth match. Mysterio looks and moves like he did ten years ago. Miz did well also. Mysterio won with a roll up. After the match, Triple H came out and Pedigreed The Miz in a segment that probably won’t air on television.

Daniel Bryan made his entrance to major heat. Great mic work by Bryan promoting his match at SummerSlam. Kane entered and then A.J. came out to my surprise. She flirted a little and was very complimentary of Kane. She asked Bryan to shake Kane’s hand and he said No!!! She demanded that he shake Kane’s hand. Kane and Daniel Bryan fought a little. Bryan rolled out and jumped the barricade. A.J. was on the stage laughing. Kane exited.

7. Sheamus vs. Alberto Del Rio for the World Hvt. Championship. Del Rio wore black and it fits his character better. The police showed up to attack Sheamus before the match (apparently they were hired by Del Rio). With Sheamus down, Del Rio locked in the Cross Arm Breaker. The match never got started. The show ended with Sheamus clinching his arm.

Maria Kanellis Cryptically Remarks About Kelly Kelly’s Personal Life

While recapping Monday’s episode of Raw for Maria Menounos’ media network AfterBuzzTV.com, former WWE performer Maria Kanellis used the open forum to cryptically remark about Kelly Kelly’s personal life.

The WWE Diva appeared on Raw for the first time in over two months and scored a singles match victory over Eve following a surprise hurricanrana. “There was a lot of speculation that [Kelly Kelly] was leaving for good. So they must have come to terms on her contract and she’s still here,” Kanellis states.

Co-host Josh Padgett and special guest Nigel McGuinness then ask Kanellis whether she had “backstage heat” with Kelly, who she worked alongside with in WWE from 2006 to 2010. She responds in a cryptic manner.

“I just think that sometimes you gotta be careful what photos end up on the Internet when people are involved with other people because it makes us girls that work our tails off to be very good individuals and be good at our job look trashy,” stated Kanellis, who prides herself in being a ‘Lady’.

McGuinness says he never saw “those photos” and feels that Kelly should set up her own website. “Trending now, naked pictures of Kelly Kelly,” he jokes. “The First Lady of Ring of Honor” responds, “I don’t mind those, naked it up if you’re by yourself, but if you’re with someone else’s someone else…I don’t like that. Scandalous and I don’t like it. It’s exact opposite of what I’m about. I think that you have to be careful with that stuff. Especially if you’re trying to change…”

At this point, Kanellis is directed by the producer to change the subject to Kelly’s match. She responds, “I don’t want to go the next match.” She then continues, “Especially if you’re trying to change the opinions people are having about a certain group of individuals. You know what I mean? I have a problem with that because I fought my entire life to try and be just as strong as men and just as smart, and of course, the first thing that happens, is I get a stupid gimmick. So what did I do? I got on Celebrity Apprentice. And as soon as I was out of WWE, I started to make a change with my life, but it was not random photos of me with someone else’s someone else—because they don’t go away.”

Regarding the photos in question, Kanellis appears to be referencing some images that surfaced online in early 2009 of Kelly canoodling with a married man in fellow WWE Superstar Chris Jericho—the batch included a shot of the two kissing. It has been heavily speculated that the two were involved in a secret romantic relationship then; a Google.com search for the term “chris jericho kelly kelly” leads to numerous suggest results including “chris jericho kelly kelly kissing,” “chris jericho kelly kelly dating,” “chris jericho and kelly kelly a couple” and “chris jericho kelly kelly together.”

Kelly appeared to respond to Kanellis’ cryptic remarks Tuesday evening via Twitter, herself cryptically stating, “I will never mention your name, you will never be relevant. If I have something to say about you, I will say it to you ? #thebiggerperson.”

Kanellis responded, “Relevant enough to call me. #IMALADY.” She then deleted the remark, but stands by her show comments.

She tweeted, “@afterbuzztv is a show about a show. Every show discusses the show, news and gossip. If you don’t like you’re dirty laundry aired maybe you should be more careful about what shows up on the Internet.”

Nash Says Benoit and Guerrero As Champs Killed Pro Wrestling

Grantland.com has published a lengthy article on the life and controversial wrestling career of Kevin Nash, who has begun to gain traction in Hollywood. A notable point in the article has the six-time world champion reiterating his stance on “Vanilla Midgets,” a dismissive term he used as booker in the late ’90s in World Championship Wrestling to describe small-statured, gifted technical wrestlers who didn’t project larger than life personalities but were beloved by fans, such as Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero and Dean Malenko.

“Big Sexy” feels the professional wrestling industry died in 2004 at WrestleMania XX when WWE’s “Super Bowl” concluded with the image of the under six-foot-tall grapplers reigning supreme as champions and emotionally celebrating. Even though the two wrestlers are now deceased, he still believes they never belonged in the main event scene due to their small stature.

UPDATE: Jericho Responds To Nash’s Remarks & Starts Twitter Fight

“When Benoit and Guerrero hugged [at the end of WrestleMania XX], that was the end of the business,” Nash says. “Has business been the same since that WrestleMania? Has it come close to the Austin era? Has it come close to the nWo or the Hogan era? You put two fucking guys that were great workers that were the same height as the fucking referees, and I’m sorry, man. Are you going to watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch dick? Even if you’re not gay, you will not watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch dick. That’s not the standard in porno films. So you put a 5-foot-7 guy as your world champion.”

Nash has the same problem with today’s “Internet heroes,” CM Punk and Daniel Bryan.

“They are not bigger than life,” he says. “I bet they could both walk through airports and not be noticed unless they have a gimmick shirt on and the belt.”

Nash also discussed how The Kliq shifted financial compensation in the wrestlers’ favor, how his 1995 heel turn inspired the “Attitude Era” and the subsequent ascent of “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, cursing out Tom Cruise’s makeup artist on the set of Rock of Ages and more. The full article is available here.
