    Kurt Angle Names One WWE Star Who Has Improved As An Entertainer

    Kurt Angle has taken notice of one WWE superstar who has pushed himself beyond the in-ring work.

    Angle was a tremendous wrestler but he also had the charisma to match. Angle was wildly entertaining in his backstage segments and promos in the ring. It’s what helped him become a legend in the business.

    The WWE Hall of Famer believes one current member of WWE’s main roster has found his entertaining side.

    Taking to his own podcast, The Kurt Angle Show, the Olympic gold medalist said that Chad Gable has been able to separate himself from the pack thanks to his improvement as an entertainer (h/t Wrestling Inc).

    “I do believe Chad Gable’s getting a better push, I wish he’d get pushed a little bit more. But I do believe that he is becoming more entertaining.

    “I do see similarities between him and myself, and I’m really proud of the kid. He’s really come out of his shell and he’s been able to show that he has the ability to be an entertainer, not just an overall wrestler but an entertainer.

    “He’s doing it, he’s succeeding.”

    Angle isn’t the only one heaping praise on Gable. The Miz recently told Ryan Satin that Gable’s current character is a “money maker.”

    Gable has found great success on WWE TV ever since he was paired with Otis. Together, the two are known as the “Alpha Academy.” They are former WWE Raw Tag Team Champions.

    At the moment, Gable and Otis have found themselves in the good graces of Kevin Owens. All three have aligned in an attempt to prove that Ezekiel is actually Elias.

    Tammy Sytch Still Won’t Take Responsibility, Blasts Hall of Fame Removal Calls

    Tammy Sytch continues to go on a rampage against those who are holding her accountable for her alleged actions.

    Sytch has had a slew of legal issues but things are far more serious this go-around. Late last week, Sytch, formerly known as “Sunny” in WWE, was arrested in connection to a fatal three-car crash. She was booked into Volusia County Branch Jail.

    Her bond was set at $227,500, which she was able to meet but prosecutors are seeking to revoke the bond. Sytch was hit with nine charges, the most serious one being DUI manslaughter, which is a felony in the state of Florida.

    Recently, Bill DeMott called for the removal of “Sunny” from the WWE Hall of Fame. He had the following to say on social media:

    “When do we start holding people accountable BEFORE they kill themselves or someone else? When do we decide as lawmakers and judges that we DO NOT get to decide who should and shouldn’t be punished? When do organizations speak up for EVERYONE not just influential cases?”

    This enraged Tammy Sytch, who took to her Twitter page to unleash a rant toward DeMott.

    “I think Bill Demott should be removed from the WWE hall of fame! Ohhh that’s rite, he was never inducted. He was too busy sexually harassing female talent and degrading male talent as well. Yet he is worried about a crime that has NOT even been proven in a court of law yet??”

    Sytch has been lashing out at those who have called for her to be locked up for many years. It’s clear that she refuses to take responsibility and isn’t keen on making changes in her life.

    If Sytch is convicted of DUI manslaughter, she could be facing up to 30 years in prison.

    AEW Rampage Spoilers: Airing May 13, 2022

    AEW Rampage was taped following the May 11 episode of Dynamite.

    The action took place inside UBS Arena in Long Island, NY. In the main event, Scorpio Sky put his TNT Championship on the line against his good friend (maybe not so much anymore) and former SCU partner Frankie Kazarian.

    This episode of Rampage also featured an Owen Hart Cup quarterfinal match between Riho and Ruby Soho.

    A six-man tag team match between Death Triangle (PAC, Penta El Zero M, and Fenix) and AFO (The Butcher, The Blade, and Marq Quen) was featured as well. Shawn Spears was also in action, taking on Bear Boulder.

    HOOK Finally Embraces Danhausen On AEW Dynamite (Video)

    HOOKHausen is alive and well … and very evil.

    On the May 11 episode of AEW Dynamite, Danhausen made his in-ring debut for the promotion. He went one-on-one with Tony Nese but it wasn’t much of a match.

    Nese had his hand raised in a matter of seconds thanks to a distraction from “Smart” Mark Sterling and a running knee in the corner for the pinfall.

    Fans didn’t know what to expect with Danhausen’s in-ring AEW debut as it’s unknown if he’s truly fully healed from his broken tibia and fibula.

    That’s not the main story here, however. After the match, HOOK made his way down to the ring and Nese wanted no part of him as he made his exit.

    Danhausen extended his hand to HOOK, who actually embraced him for the first time.

    A top WarnerMedia executive who championed AEW programming is on his way out.

    Brett Weitz has found himself out of WarnerMedia thanks to the Discovery merger. Kathleen Finch of Discovery has cut off Weitz’s General Manager of TNT, TBS, and truTV position, so he is now out of the company.

    He issued the following statement (via Deadline).

    “These past 14 years have been the most fulfilling of my career.

    “I’ve had the great fortune to create and launch Emmy-winning fan-favorite entertainment, to be a part of powerful life-changing initiatives, and most importantly to have had the privilege to lead the most talented, dedicated, altruistic, and innovative team at the TNets.

    “We made huge profits for shareholders and brilliant content for fans while having the most fun and being better partners with talent than any team I’ve ever been a part of. I will for sure continue to root for you all.”

    Weitz was a big supporter of AEW TV, calling it an “overperformer.”

    Many had feared for the future of the relationship between AEW and WarnerMedia as a result of the merger with Discovery. Dave Meltzer of Wrestling Observer Newsletter recently reported that the merger is unlikely to impact AEW.

    Tony Khan Confirms AEW Trios Titles Exist and Were Made a While Ago

    AEW President Tony Khan has confirmed a report regarding the creation of trios tag team titles.

    It’s no secret that AEW has a slew of factions. From The Elite to House of Black to Blackpool Combat Club and beyond, there is no shortage of stables under the AEW banner.

    With so many groups, many have long believed it’s only a matter of time before trios titles are introduced.

    That hunch is indeed correct.

    AEW Trios Titles Are Real

    During an interview with TSN, Tony Khan made the confirmation that the AEW Trios Tag Team Titles have been made. It was first reported on Wrestling Observer by Dave Meltzer.

    Here’s what Khan had to say about the creation of the championships.

    “I saw Dave reported it and nobody’s asked me on the record yet, but it is truthful that I have made the belts.

    “I made them a long time ago, to be honest with you.

    “They’ve never been seen, and I did have them made. I do have more championship belts in my possession that have never been unveiled than anybody might suspect. The TBS Championship was in my office for months at the shows before anybody knew it was going to be unveiled, for example, recently.

    “The Ring of Honor purchase and now the great stable of champions[hips] and IP and, not only the legacy of past events, but the great slate of, I think, potential future events we can do with Ring of Honor and all that was kind of a surprise to everybody that we kept under wraps. That came together more quickly, whereas the trios championships are something I’ve thought about for a long time.

    “But there are more championship belts than people might think that I’ve had up my sleeve and the trios championship are, arguably, the foremost.”

    The fact that Khan said the gold has been made for a while now shouldn’t come as a surprise either.

    After all, he confirmed in late 2020 that trios titles were on his priority list for 2021 but the timing just wasn’t right.

    WWE has announced that Charlotte Flair is out of action indefinitely. The company is citing injuries she sustained at WrestleMania Backlash.

    Flair put the SmackDown Women’s Championship on the line against Ronda Rousey in an “I Quit” match at WWE’s latest premium live event.

    It was a very physical match that included kendo sticks, chairs, and a brawl in the crowd. Ultimately, Rousey forced her opponent to say “I Quit” with an armbar, utilizing a chair as leverage.

    For those wondering, Charlotte’s “injuries” are part of a storyline to write her off television.

    Charlotte is taking scheduled time off to prepare for her wedding to AEW star Andrade El Idolo. The wedding takes place later this year. The two have been together since 2019.

    The wedding planning, the ceremony itself and the honeymoon will keep Charlotte on the sidelines, but don’t expect this to be the end of “The Queen.”

    Charlotte Flair has not ben shy about her longterm goals inside the squared circle. She recently expressed her desire to surpass her father’s record for the most world title reigns. She’s held the Women’s world title 13 times. That is three shy of her father’s world title record of 16.

    Thunder Rosa has responded to those who feel the way she’s being booked as AEW Women’s Champion is lackluster.

    Rosa has been the champion since only March but some feel the reign has already been disappointing. She had a successful title defense against Nyla Rose. The buildup to that match left a lot to be desired for the critics.

    While her upcoming Double or Nothing title defense against Serena Deeb has drawn some interest, their first face-to-face promo was less than stellar.

    Thunder Rosa Has Message For Critics

    Thunder Rosa spoke to talkSPORT and she addressed those who believe that AEW isn’t presenting her as strongly as it should.

    “I just know that people are never going to be satisfied with everything that you do, or anything that happens. Bottom line. I’m going to do my best with everything I’m given all the time and people will criticize that too – which is OK.

    “People are going to talk and if they’re talking that means they’re watching. At the end of the day that’s what we’re trying to do.

    “I had a banger of a match with Nyla Rose and I was able to show some sides that I haven’t been able to in years in that ring. It was a dynamic match and something different. David vs Goliath in that aspect.

    “Everyone is different and there’s always going to be criticism, but whatever is in my hands to make better I will. This match at Double or Nothing, and I say this now, I’m going to show that I am the best wrestler in the world. That AEW has the best women’s division in the world. That’s what I’m here for. 

    “Like it or not, I’m the AEW Women’s champion, so get used to seeing my face, get used to hearing my voice and get used to seeing me wrestle in that ring the way that I wrestle.“

    Rosa captured the AEW Women’s Title against Britt Baker on the St. Patrick’s Day Slam edition of Dynamite. The title match was contested inside a steel cage.

    AEW play-by-play ace Jim Ross has a health update on Jake Roberts and it isn’t a positive one.

    These days, Jake “The Snake” serves as a manager for Lance Archer on AEW TV. While Jake makes appearances from time to time, he hasn’t been around as much lately.

    Sadly, it looks like this is due to some health problems.

    During an episode of his Grillin’ JR podcast, Jim Ross revealed that some breathing troubles have been plaguing Jake Roberts.

    “I just saw him here a few weeks ago and he’s still battling his breathing issues. He’s not in great health. That’s whyai you don’t see him as often on AEW television as he once was when he was fronting Lance Archer.

    “But his health is not good and he’s taking the means to address it. He still has surgeries left. But he has breathing issues.”

    Many believe that Jake Roberts has cheated death more than just about anyone in the industry. Jake “The Snake” had to overcome drug and alcohol addiction.

    UPDATE: Jake Roberts Refutes Jim Ross’ Claim That He’s Not In Good Health

    Roberts had been spiraling before getting clean thanks to DDP. While Jake has seemingly been in much better health and spirits in recent times, this update is sure to leave fans concerned.

    Jake revealed back in February that he was diagnosed with COVID-19. The silver lining at the time was that he no longer needed an oxygen tank. He was preparing for another hip surgery, however, and said he will indeed be taking oxygen again here and there.

    AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door Surpasses $1 Million Gate

    AEW has now hit its second million-dollar live gate and this time, some assistance from NJPW helped put it over the top.

    The joint show will be taking place inside the United Center in Chicago, Illinois. No matches have been announced at this time as AEW has their own Double or Nothing PPV to focus on, which is scheduled for May 29.

    Despite not having any matches announced, Forbidden Door sold out within minutes.

    AEWxNJPW Forbidden Door Already Reaches Milestone

    Back in March, Tony Khan announced that this year’s Double or Nothing show became the first AEW event to score a live gate of $1 million.

    The promotion has done it again with its crossover show with NJPW. This does not include the secondary market, where thousands of tickets are sold at inflated prices.

    Khan made the announcement during an interview with News 12 Long Island.

    “[Grand Slam] was almost the first million-dollar gate in AEW history, just came shy of that, but it was real close and of course, we set that record now, for AEW Double or Nothing Las Vegas, became our first million-dollar gate for live tickets, and now just hit it again for our partnership with New Japan, for our Forbidden Door show at the United Center.”

    Speaking of Grand Slam, Khan recently confirmed that the event will be returning this year at Arthur Ashe Stadium in Flushing, NY.

    It’ll be interesting to see if AEW can reach that million-dollar gate to become the third show in company history to pull off the feat.

    Drew McIntyre and Tyson Fury aren’t letting up with their brewing rivalry.

    McIntyre is a former two-time WWE Champion, while Fury is widely recognized as the king of heavyweight boxing. “The Gypsy King” is the WBC and The Ring heavyweight champion. With seemingly one foot out the door in pro boxing, Fury is exploring his options.

    Drew McIntyre had an interview with Newsday and he was asked about his back-and-forth exchanges with Tyson Fury. He said he senses that “The Gyspy King” can’t keep his name out of his mouth.

    “First of all, I think we’re talking about WWE. I think I’d be insane to get in the ring with possibly the best boxer of all time, certainly top five.

    “The ball’s in his court.

    “I appreciate that my name is always in his mouth. He’s got an obsession with Drew McIntyre, which is kind of weird. But I kind of like it at the same time.

    “We’ve been going back and forth to each other nonstop for a couple of years. He’s got our number. My focus is on Roman Reigns and the titles right now. But if he wants to do business, he knows our people.

    “Give us a call.”

    Fury is fresh off a successful title defense against Dillian Whyte. He scored a sixth-round knockout victory off an uppercut.

    During the post-fight press conference, Fury said he would’ve mind giving McIntyre the ol’ one-two either at SummerSlam or Clash at the Castle in Cardiff, Wales.

    “Don’t rule me out of fighting there, you might see me at SummerSlam. I got to speak to Vince and the boys, maybe make this happen.

    “I know Drew McIntyre has been saying a lot of things about me, I’d love to knock him out. I’d love to be at Cardiff. I’d love to be back at center stage in the UK.”

    What Vince McMahon Originally Had In Mind For The New Day

    The New Day has been the most successful faction in WWE for years but the original pitch wasn’t exactly hitting home with the group’s members.

    Together, Big E, Kofi Kingston, and Xavier Woods have had great success in WWE. They have won tag team gold 11 times. In singles action, Big E and Kofi have both had WWE Championship reigns, while Woods won the 2021 King of the Ring.

    The initial pitch for The New Day didn’t exactly give E, Kofi, or Woods the chills but they knew they could knock it out of the part.

    Vince McMahon’s Initial Plan For The New Day

    Kofi Kingston was a guest on Out of Character with Ryan Satin. During his appearance, Kofi said that Vince McMahon had serious gospel vibes with The New Day when he first pitched the idea (h/t 411Mania.com).

    “When we were given the gimmick of positivity preaching preachers, I’ll never forget it. We had been going back and forth with Vince about what we wanted to be. We wanted to be some guys who were not pleased with our positions in the company.

    “He’s like, ‘Okay, well, how about you guys be preachers and you guys come out here and there’s gospel music.’ We’re just sitting there and we know that the people are going to reject this idea because nobody comes to WWE to go to church.

    “But this is what he wanted us to do. We told him, ‘Whatever you give us, we’ll make it succeed because of our chemistry. We believe in it.’ He’s like, ‘Alright, I’m going to put that to the test. You guys are going be positivity preaching preachers. Go get it over.’

    “We’re just like, alright, this is our chance, and we supported each other. There were a lot of people who took a big dump on our aspirations. They didn’t believe in us. They made fun of us when we were just trying to get over.

    “But now you fast forward, and those same people have come back around, and they admitted that they were wrong. Not that we do it to prove people wrong, but we proved them wrong.”

    Kofi certainly isn’t playing revisionist history. He’s absolutely right when he says people panned The New Day gimmick at first and didn’t think it was going to work. The faction quickly turned things around and has become one of the hottest acts in WWE.

    Unfortunately, The New Day is currently down a member. On the March 11 episode of SmackDown, Big E suffered a broken neck after landing awkwardly off an overhead belly-to-belly suplex from Ridge Holland.

    E recently gave an update revealing that his recovery has hit a snag due to his C1 not healing the way he had hoped. He’s keeping his neck in a brace for the next month or so in an attempt to avoid fusion surgery.

    Update on Drama Between Kota Ibushi & NJPW

    There is an update on recent drama between Kota Ibushi and NJPW.

    Ibushi recently posted a series of tweets in Japanese, which left many foreign fans confused due to mistranslations. While some alarming terms were seen through the translation tool on Twitter such as, “sexually harassing bosses,” things just didn’t seem to add up.

    It looks like we now know what has Ibushi peeved.

    What’s Going On With Kota Ibushi?

    Bryan Alvarez took to Wrestling Observer Live to discuss what’s really at play here. Alvarez noted that he received this bit of info from Ibushi’s camp.

    Apparently, Kota Ibushi is none too pleased with NJPW as he feels the company is trying to rush him back to the ring. Ibushi suffered a shoulder injury after landing hard on a Phoenix Splash during his G1 Climax finals match against Kazuchika Okada back in Oct. 2021.

    Ibushi was initially planned to participate in this year’s New Japan Cup. He ended up being pulled from the tournament as he wasn’t ready to return to action.

    Bryan said he wouldn’t go as far as to say Ibushi blew his stack but he did say the “Golden Star” is simply frustrated with the situation. He doesn’t feel his injuries have fully healed but he’s being asked to return.

    Back in 2019, it was reported that Ibushi signed a “lifetime contract” with NJPW. Ibushi reportedly said he wanted to be with the promotion until he dies.

    Ibushi realized his dream of becoming the IWGP Heavyweight Champion back in Jan. 2021. He defeated Tetsuya Naito in the main event of night one of Wrestle Kingdom 15.

    Danhausen’s AEW In-Ring Debut Set for Dynamite

    Danhausen’s in-ring debut for AEW has been announced and it’s expected to be very evil.

    For weeks, Danhausen has been terrorizing the AEW roster with his curses. Thus far, only HOOK has been able to go unscathed. While he’s certainly had a presence on TV, Danhausen has yet to have a match on Dynamite, Rampage, or PPV.

    That’s about to change as Tony Khan has announced that Danhausen will take on Tony Nese on the May 11 episode of Dynamite.

    “The much-anticipated in-ring debut of the very nice/very evil Danhausen is set for TOMORROW vs Premier Athlete Tony Nese LIVE on AEW Dynamite! Will Nese be a hometown hero on Long Island, or will Danhausen curse him? Don’t miss Dynamite on TBS tomorrow @ 8pm ET/7pm CT!”

    Danhausen’s Injury

    Back in Oct. 2021, Danhausen suffered a broken tibia and fibula during a Next Generation Wrestling: Tennessee event. As one can imagine, those injuries take a while to fully heal so it’ll be interesting to see how the match with Nese will be booked.

    Danhausen’s character could very well give him an out if he isn’t truly ready for a traditional wrestling match. This could turn out to be a comedy-style match if that’s the case.

    The “Very Evil” curser has been trying to get in the good graces of HOOK. Will he get the assistance he’s been seeking?

    Dustin Rhodes has no plans of ever wrestling his brother Cody Rhodes again.

    Back in May 2019 at the inaugural AEW Double or Nothing PPV, Dustin and Cody put on an instant classic. Ultimately, Cody picked up the pinfall and the two embraced. The match took a lot out of the two.

    It’s enough to where Dustin promises not to have another singles match with Cody.

    Dustin Rhodes Dismisses Cody Rematch

    During a chat with Renee Paquette on The Sessions, Dustin Rhodes said that he won’t ever share the ring with Cody for a one-on-one match again (h/t Fightful).

    “I’ve talked about this a lot over the last couple of years.

    “Having an opportunity to work with my brother, and not knowing what to expect with the AEW audience and no idea if I’m gonna get any reaction at all, and just the fact that we went out there, and I got a reaction, and the match was like, just for me and him, perfect.

    “It was a long time coming that we weren’t allowed in WWE to do. Not Stardust vs. Goldust, I mean just serious brother versus brother.

    “It’s hard to do.

    “It’s hard to do as you look at all the brothers versus brothers. There’s nothing good to come from them, right? I’ll never do it again. I’ll never wrestle him again. It did a lot to me that night.”

    Cody is currently back with WWE, while Dustin remains on the AEW roster. Dustin has said he’s committed to AEW as he believes in the direction the company is heading in.

    Dustin has said that he and Cody had pitched the idea of facing each other at WrestleMania directly to Vince McMahon before AEW was even a thought. He claimed McMahon told him the match wasn’t good enough for the event.

    Vince McMahon is known for egging others on to do ribs but this one, in particular, was quite scary.

    Ribbing was quite common behind the scenes in the wrestling business. To this day, wrestlers still get ribbed although it doesn’t appear to be as intense as it used to be.

    This one rib that was backed by McMahon ended up going south when the person getting pranked suffered an injury.

    Vince McMahon Rib Causes Concussion

    During an edition of AdFreeShows.com’s Monday Mailbag, former WWE referee Mike Chioda reflected on the time he was egged on by Vince McMahon to prank a cameraman.

    Things went awry in a hurry (h/t WrestlingInc.com).

    “Vince used to hate to see people sleep. This one camera guy, I love him, he was a great guy and I remember he said, ‘hey, cut him down.’

    “I remember I climbed all the way up this thing cause he had his hammock on something, and I cut it by his head and he went straight down into the steel. He had a concussion.

    “I felt so bad, it backfired on me so much. We stopped in Ramstine Germany because we always did, and I remember, he had to go to the hospital there and he went back home.

    “I remember apologizing and calling him and everything. I couldn’t say ‘Vince and them made me do it.’ I didn’t want to say that, I had to do it.

    “I shouldn’t have listened to [Vince] but it was Vince and them guys, but the f***ing rib backfired.”

    Surely, current WWE talent will settle for the more harmless ribs today. For example, back in 2009, Drew McIntyre captured the WWE Intercontinental Championship.

    He went out to eat at Applebee’s with some of his fellow performers when Randy Orton told Drew it was tradition for a first-time champion to actually wear the title when eating out. McIntyre did so, which got a big laugh out of the boys.

    If you thought Lacey Evans was being set up for a massive babyface run, think again.

    WWE has been rolling out videos of Lacey telling her life story. Lacey is a former military police officer in the Marines. She served from 2009 through 2014.

    Many thought that WWE had a layup on their hands with Evans as a top female babyface star. As it turns out, the company is going in a different direction.

    PWInsider is reporting that while the promos have garnered a positive reaction from many, they are not setting up for a face run. The report claims that WWE plans on keeping Lacey Evans a heel.

    Furthermore, Evans has been moved from SmackDown to Raw. She cut one of her promos during the May 9 episode of Raw.

    Fans who watched the May 6 episode of SmackDown may have suspected that Lacey wasn’t going face after all. After that promo, the ring announcer said that Evans requested that all fans stand and show her the proper respect.

    It left fans confused as Lacey has been talking about abuse, drug use, overdoses, and suicide for weeks.

    As it turns out, we may be in the midst of a troll job from WWE creative.

    One WWE legend sees big things ahead for The Judgment Day.

    Since turning over to a more sinister side, Edge has formed his own faction. Joining him are Damian Priest and Rhea Ripley, who recently joined the stable. Since the early stage of putting the group together, Edge has looked unstoppable on WWE TV.

    The faction seems to have already won over Mick Foley.

    Edge recently teased that there’s room for more members of The Judgment Day. This has led to rampant speculation among fans.

    Some believe that Finn Balor will eventually turn on AJ Styles and join the group. Others feel Ciampa would be the right fit.

    The reception to Edge’s faction varies depending on who you ask. Some people are excited to see the direction the group is headed towards, while others feel promos from Edge, Priest, and Rhea have fallen flat.

    Obviously, the faction is still developing so it may be a while before we know whether or not it’s a success.

    Lashley defeated Omos at WrestleMania 38 but the disgruntled manager got fed up since he felt “The Almighty” brushed off his assistance for far too long.

    MVP has taken to social media to reveal that he’s cooking up a diss track aimed at Bobby Lashley called, “Fall Mighty.”

    Omos and MVP got some revenge on Lashley at WrestleMania Backlash. Omos ended up getting the pinfall thanks to interference from the former two-time WWE United States Champion.

    Bobby Lashley has had enough of the shenanigans and has called for a Steel Cage match with Omos on the May 16 episode of Monday Night Raw. The idea is that MVP won’t be able to interfere but many are skeptical.

    Lashley and MVP were a heavily praised duo, forming The Hurt Business with Shelton Benjamin and eventually Cedric Alexander. WWE broke up the faction but kept Lashley and MVP together.

    MVP even stuck around for a little bit after Lashley turned face.

    Jim Cornette isn’t one to mince words and he isn’t about to start now.

    The legendary manager has become a controversial figure over the years. Some believe that Cornette’s rants have blackballed him from the industry. There are still a group of fans who support him through his podcast, The Jim Cornette Experience.

    Oftentimes, Jim reminisces about the old days and slams people he doesn’t like. His weekly shots towards AEW have also become a big part of his podcast.

    Jim Cornette Rips AEW Segment Apart

    Jim Cornette has made it clear that he isn’t a fan of what AEW is doing with Malakai Black, Brody King, and Buddy Matthews. Cornette believes the House of Black faction “sucks” due to bad creative direction.

    He certainly didn’t change his mind during the May 4 episode of Dynamite. On the show, Julia Hart, who had been teasing a heel turn ever since being sprayed with mist by Malakai back in late 2021, looked ready to attack Brian Pillman Jr. with a chair but ultimately didn’t.

    Cornette went off on the segment during his podcast (h/t ewrestlingnews.com):

    “This was the worst segment I have ever seen on wrestling television because there was no redeeming value to this. This material was so horrible that nobody cared.

    “Anybody who came up with this story should be sent away to prison. There’s no punishment too heinous. Nobody should have been forced to watch this.

    “You send the kid [Brian Pillman Jr] to tell this story, which is hokey b****t. He tried so hard that he ended up screaming and squeaking, trying to put his soul into it for the rotten creative.”

    In fairness to Jim, this segment has actually been widely panned online. A big criticism has to do with teasing the Hart turn for far too long.

    Another problem many had with the segment is that it made the babyfaces, Pillman Jr. and Griff Garrison, look weak. The two called out House of Black and when the group showed up, the faces just froze and got stomped out.

    Edge is in full swing with his Judgement Day faction and he has a new look to boot.

    On the May 9 episode of WWE Raw, Edge made his way to the ring with fellow group members Damian Priest and the recently added Rhea Ripley. Fans quickly noticed Edge’s new look.

    Edge’s new look makes sense given his character change. He’s taken on a more sinister role, going as far as to order Rhea Ripley to unleash a post-match attack on Liv Morgan.

    We’ve also seen the former “Rated-R Superstar” change his iconic theme song. WWE is leaving no doubt that Edge has gone in a new direction and is all business.

    On the May 9 episode of Raw, Edge speared Finn Balor during his match with Priest. The referee saw it and Balor was awarded the DQ win. Ultimately, Judgement Day delivered a beatdown to Balor and AJ Styles after the match.

    During the same episode of Raw, the multiple-time world champion hinted at adding even more members to The Judgement Day. The faction has already been dominant on WWE TV, so it’ll be interesting to see how the faction can gain even more steam.

    Former NXT star Nash Carter has found his first wrestling gig since being released by WWE.

    Going back to the “Zachary Wentz” name, Carter has been booked for the Circle 6 and No Peace Underground joint show. The event is scheduled for May 21 in Orlando, Florida.

    Nash Carter was released by WWE back in April. The move came off the heels of allegations of physical and emotional abuse towards his wife, Kimber Lee.

    Kimber alleges that Nash got drunk and punched in her the face, splitting her lip in the process. She went on Twitter and tagged the official account of NXT:

    “Hey @WWENXT this is my face after your tag champ @NashCarterWWE got wasted and hit me so hard he split my lip open. He told me I’m a wrestler so I’m always marked up. I’ve hid this for a year and even forgave him. But I can’t hide it anymore.”

    What ended up being the final straw for WWE was a photo Lee uploaded of Carter doing the Nazi salute and having a mustache resembling that of dictator Adolf Hitler.

    A female friend of Nash took to Twitter to accuse Kimber of making false accusations and simply being bitter that Carter has moved on from her.

    “Y’all… @Kimber_Lee90 got served divorce papers by Nash on Monday. He’s been done with her. She’s mad that this is all happening so she’s turning to Twitter because she’s outraged that he doesn’t want to be with her anymore. It really is that simple…”

    Carter had been one-half of the NXT Tag Team Champions along with Wes Lee. The titles had to be vacated after Carter was given his release.

    U.S. Title Also Has Meaning To Cody Rhodes

    While Cody’s first title shot in his return to WWE isn’t for the world championship, it still holds significance to his family.

    Dusty Rhodes is a former NWA United States Champion, which falls under the same lineage as the WWE United States Championship. Cody’s older brother, Dustin, is a two-time WCW United States Champion.

    Cody Rhodes has never held the U.S. hardware in WWE. He’ll have a chance to add it to his mantle tonight and add another piece to the puzzle on the road to the WWE Championship.

    Taking to his Twitter account, Cody reacted to the news:

    Rhodes is fresh off a pinfall victory over Seth Rollins at WrestleMania Backlash. He grabbed a handful of tights to get the win only after Seth attempted the nefarious tactic himself.

    AEW President Tony Khan has gone in-depth on what he looks for when trying to sign talent for his promotion.

    When Khan got AEW started back in 2019, many wondered how the roster would shake out. As it turns out, AEW has signed a mix of premier talent on the indies, internationally, and formerly of WWE.

    He’s even signed some standout athletes who never had a wrestling background.

    Tony Khan’s Eye For Talent

    AEW star Swerve Strickland had Tony Khan as a guest on his Swerve City podcast. During his appearance, Khan laid out what he’s in search of when doing some scouting.

    “Well, there’s a lot of things. First of all, when you look at their body of work coming in, sometimes you get athletes, like Satnam Singh is a great example or Jade Cargill, where they didn’t have prior experience in pro wrestling, but they were great athletes, actually both of them played basketball at a high level. I thought they were worth a gamble.”

    Khan said it’s rare to sign someone who does not have prior wrestling experience. AEW does not have a performance center or developmental system, like WWE.

    In-Ring Experience

    “It’s a different business model. There are a lot of great people, but for us, we kind of pick our spots when it comes to that thing, because we’re not as much about centralized training all week long.

    Khan named Swerve Strickland as someone he saw wrestle elsewhere.

    “I had seen a lot of your matches before you came in,” said Khan. “Some other people might not have as much experience as you and might not have had as much success, or really might not be as far along or as developed or as good. There’s other people where it’s hard to track them down.”

    Fans have taken notice of AEW’s approach toward building young stars such as MJF, HOOK, Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia, and Lee Moriarty. Those names all had some level of wrestling knowledge before being signed to AEW.

    As Khan mentioned, Jade Cargill was someone who came in as an athlete outside the wrestling business. Cargill did receive a WWE tryout back in 2019.

    She ended up training at the Face 2 Face Wrestling School before transitioning to the Nightmare Factory.

    Samoa Joe Almost Missed Supercard of Honor

    Samoa Joe made a surprise appearance to close the ROH Supercard of Honor show but it almost didn’t happen.

    On April 1, ROH held its first show under a new regime. Supercard of Honor took place inside the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. In the main event, Jonathan Gresham became the undisputed ROH World Champion, defeating Bandido.

    After the match, Jay Lethal and Sonjay Dutt attacked Gresham. Lee Moriarty attempted to make the save but the numbers game was too much.

    Luckily for them, Samoa Joe made his surprise return. He sent Lethal cowering out of the ring and choked Dutt.

    Samoa Joe Barely Made It

    During an appearance on the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Joe recalled nearly being unable to make it to Supercard of Honor (h/t Wrestling Inc).

    “Oh, absolutely, I know there was weather permitting jets to get to Tampa on time. And a lot of mechanical issues on flights that went out.

    “So, I had to end up driving to Cross City, Florida, a small little rural town in the middle of Florida to catch a private jet to get up to the show.

    “The best part was, as I arrived to the airport and I walked into this little office, this little man sitting behind the counter looked at me.

    “I said, ‘hey man, I am here, I’ve got a jet coming in to pick me up,’ he said, ‘what time?’ I said, ‘I think seven o’clock,’ he said, ‘well, we close a six, man, I’ll see what I can do.’”

    Joe has already made waves under Tony Khan’s ROH. He captured the ROH World Television Championship from Minoru Suzuki on the April 13 episode of AEW Dynamite.

    He is currently involved in a feud with Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt, and their new muscle Satnam Singh.
