Will Ospreay Calls First Dibs On Match With Neville

Will Ospreay has called shotgun on facing Neville first now that the wrestler formerly known as Pac is a free agent.

Last night, it was reported that Neville is no longer contracted to WWE. His pending return to the independents and non-WWE promotions has wrestlers and wrestling fans alike excited.

https://twitter.com/willospreay/status/1033268894998437888?s=21

Neville/Pac Free Of WWE

Few details are available at the moment as it concerns how Neville’s time with WWE ended. It’s possible that his contract ended but it is also possible he and the company came to an agreement on his early release.

It does appear, however, that Cody and the Young Bucks were aware ahead of time before news broke. The members of the Elite dropped a few hints through social media in the days leading up to the news breaking.

https://twitter.com/MattJackson13/status/1032726642823589888

Matt Jackson and Cody’s talk regarding Neville may have been a coincidence or it may not have been.

It has been over 6 years since Neville was a free agent. He began his career with WWE in mid-2012 and debuted in NXT that October. During his time with NXT, he won the NXT title once and the tag-team championships twice, once with Oliver Grey and once with Corey Graves. On the main roster, he was a former 2x Cruiserweight Champion but is believed to have become unsatisfied with his role, the product, or both.

His last match in WWE was on October 7th, 2017. He defeated Enzo Amore by DQ at a 205 Live house show.

Road Dogg Defends Becky Lynch Booking On Twitter

Creative head for Smackdown, Road Dogg, decided to spend some time on Twitter debating fans recently. There has been more than a few unhappy Becky Lynch supporters in the WWE Universe as of late. A fan on Twitter criticized the booking of Lynch recently and Road Dogg took the time to respond.

Becky Lynch Booking

Road Dogg’s defense of the booking is that Flair and Lynch each had to overcome the same obstacle to get a title match. It’s the same obstacle R-Truth is currently trying to overcome as well.

Where some are taking issue with Road Dogg’s defense is that Lynch had already earned a single’s match for the title and then had it taken away. This creates sympathy for the character who had earned something only to lose it through no fault of their own. Unless you consider a triple threat match as an equal opportunity to a single’s match for the title but some Scott Steiner match should be able to show why that doesn’t make sense.

The other issue with the booking is how Lynch was scripted to turn on the fans Tuesday night. Her character, instead of reveling in the support she received from the crowd as a normal person would do, turned on the crowd and said they had not been supporting her prior to Summerslam.

WWE Hall of Famer, Bully/Bubba Ray Dudley has been following this issue closely. He Tweeted out the following on Tuesday night:

10 Takeaways From Impact Wrestling 8/23

Impact Wrestling last night featured a Mexican Death Match between Sami Callihan and Pentagon Jr. The matches tonight were from the first show of the August 12th & 13th tapings from Rebel Nightclub in Toronto.

I was in attendance for these tapings and thought both nights were pretty fun. They aired the matches slightly out of order last night, however. The matches for next week’s “Impact ReDefined” episode were interspersed amongst the matches which aired last night.

Impact Wrestling 8/23

Sami Callihan Wins The Mexican Death Match

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PddPNrZX1VY

Sami Callihan defeated Pentagon Jr. in the night’s main event. After writing another hardcore chapter in their rivalry, Callihan picked up the win with a Cactus Jack inspired piledriver off the turnbuckle and through a table.

Callihan and oVe badly needed this win. They’d dropped tag matches to the Lucha Bros and Callihan lost singles matches to both Fenix and Pentagon prior to tonight. By avenging his loss from Slammiversary and beating a former Impact World Champion, Callihan has done much to erase the losses he suffered earlier this summer.

I don’t think things are finished between the boys from Ohio and the Lucha Bros, however…

Eddie Kingston May Have Committed Vehicular Homicide

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZelY9D-6Ug

This week we saw Konnan & LAX celebrating their street fight victory. Fittingly, they decided to celebrate on the streets of Toronto.

Last week’s street fight concluded with a mock-execution of King. Konnan ended up hitting him in the head with a slapjack, a move which is rarely fatal. Unfortunately, King survived and was able to get a bit of revenge this week.

Konnan’s crew was celebrating with a small child for some reason and evidently, nobody was willing to help this child cross the street. King drove like a maniac through the streets and ran over the child. It didn’t seem as though LAX realized it was King at the time.

Moose Is Back!

Just when it looked as though Austin Aries and Killer Kross were going to hand Edwards a beating for the 3rd straight show, Moose returned to make the save.

We haven’t seen Moose since Slammiversary. After dropping an Impact World Championship match to Aries, Moose was out of action with a concussion. He returned tonight, however, and appears to once again be aligned with Eddie Edwards.

Next Week: Triple Threat For The Knockouts Championship

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdCZC6LR70Y

Following Kiera Hogan’s victory over Alisha Edwards this week, Allie got on the mic and challenged Su Yung. Allie knows that she’ll just have to deal with Tessa Blanchard when she takes on Yung, however, so why not make things a triple threat match?

Next week at Impact ReDefined, Su Yung vs Allie vs Tessa Blanchard will collide for the Knockouts Championship.

Brian Cage is Champion of the “Weapon X Division”

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZPIm_sBou0

Brian Cage spoke for the first time since debuting in Impact earlier this year. Cage spoke about how the X-Division is what put Impact Wrestling on the map. The X-Division is what has made Impact Wrestling stand out. Cage feels his abilities makes him stand out amongst the rest as well.

“Nobody can do the things I do in that ring,” Cage said. “When I came to Impact Wrestling, one goal of mine was to take over the X-Divison. Why? Because when I think Impact Wrestling, I think of the X-Division.”

Next week at Impact ReDefined, Cage will look to defend his X-Division Championship for the second time when he faces Fenix.

Johnny Impact Throws Kongo Kong Into the Cabana Pool

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJMnO_4bZu8

The Cabana Pool Bar in Toronto is right next to Rebel Nightclub. It’s a fitting venue for someone like Johnny Impact to be hanging out in while he waits for a night of Impact tapings to begin.

It is not a fitting place for Kongo Kong to be, however, and how he got passed security is still a bit of a mystery. Kong attacked Johnny while he was poolside but in the end, it was Kongo who ended up going in the pool.

Rich Swann Is Going For The X-Division Championship

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4m__UL61TzU

Alicia Atout and Rich Swann went for a walk and talk this week. The two both looked as though they were coming from a 1970s themed dance party.

Swann talked about the history of the X-Division Championship and how he wanted to add to that legacy. Earlier this year, I had the chance to ask Swann what competing for the X-Division Championship means for him. Many of his answers during that interview expressed a similar sentiment to what he said tonight.

Swann will be in tough to achieve this goal, however, considering who the current champion is.

Local Talent Upset the Cult of Lee

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bktJPTa6578

The Cult of Lee may have been busy trying to impress former Impact World Champion, Eli Drake, and it cost them a match tonight. I don’t think Drake was too impressed.

The two wrestlers who defeated them were Brandon Tidwell and Mr. Atlantis.

Scarlett Bordeaux’s Advice Is Working For Fallah Bah & KM

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ObU98wWh8ts

Scarlett Bordeaux was able to convince KM that it is time to try things Fallah Bah’s way. This week Bah and KM wore matching tights and appeared in sync. They were able to defeat the Great Gama Singh’s Desi Hit Squad tonight.

Speaking of Bordeaux, she also did some work to improve Grado’s confidence this week. If her advice has the same effect on Grado as it did Bah and KM, we could see his fortunes change for the better.

Matt Sydal Is Enlightened Again

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdN4-bpVWSY

Sydal may have lost his X-Division Championship and a later single’s loss to Pentagon Jr but he got back in the win column this week. He defeated noted PWG wrestler, Zachary Wentz in single’s competition.

Quick Results:

  1. Matt Sydal defeated Zachary Wentz
  2. Fallah Bah & KM defeated the Desi Hit Squad
  3. Kiera Hogan defeated Alisha Edwards
  4. Brandon Tidwell & Mr. Atlantis defeated the Cult of Lee
  5. Mexican Death Match
    Sami Callihan defeated Pentagon Jr.

Joe Hendry: Impact Wrestling Let’s Me Do What I Do

Joe Hendry signed with Impact Wrestling in May of this year. He only has positive things to say about the 3 months he’s spent with the promotion. “I couldn’t be more thrilled,” Hendry said on today’s Impact media call. “Impact has been amazing in letting me do what I do.”

As with many other recent additions to Impact’s roster, what has Hendry so enthusiastic is the freedom the company is giving him. “What I’ve noticed since I’ve been there is a real element of working with the talent to bring out the best in us.”

Hendry joins other Impact wrestlers, such as Konnan and Sami Callihan, who have echoed similar sentiment in recent months. “It’s just been fun since the get-go,” Hendry stated.

Impact Wrestling Across The Globe

While Anthem Sports and Entertainment’s head office is located in Toronto, they are an international company with their sights set on expanding into global markets.

Impact will head to Manchester, England on September 9th for an event before traveling to Mexico City for two nights of tapings on the 13th and 14th.

The company signed the Scottish wrestler back in May. Two months after Hendry signed, Anthem launched the Fight Network in the U.K. We asked Hendry if he feels part of his role in the company is to get more UK eyeballs on the product.

“The U.K has historically been a such a stronghold for Impact Wrestling,” Hendry said. “It just makes sense to kind of reignite that and re-tap into that. If can help facilitate that then that’s a huge honor.”

Hendry is scheduled to face Eli Drake on the company’s return to Manchester at Wrestling MediaCon in two weeks.

Impact Wrestling MediaCon Twitch Special Lineup

  • Impact Wrestling Tag Team Championships
LAX (c) vs Jody Fleisch & Jonny Storm
  • Barbed Wire Baseball Bat Death Match
    Sami Callihan vs Jimmy Havoc
  • Eli Drake vs Joe Hendry
  • Su Yung vs Lana Austin
  • Rich Swann vs Matt Sydal vs Trevor Lee

Impact Wrestling returns to television tonight. Check out our preview of the upcoming episode here.

Impact Wrestling 8/23 Preview: Mexican Death Match

Impact Wrestling tonight will be their first episode from the August tapings. The promotion taped inside Toronto’s Rebel Nightclub on August 12 & 13th. Next week’s episode will be a special-branded “Impact ReDefined” show. Following the next 4 episodes, Impact will head to Mexico City for two nights of tapings there.

Brian Cage Speaks

Brian Cage still hasn’t been pinned or submitted since arriving in Impact Wrestling earlier this year. He will speak for the first time since arriving in the territory tonight.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ooJNRxXfbU

The current X-Division Champion found out last week his next title-challenger will be Fenix. The two will meet for the title next week at Impact ReDefined.

Kiera Hogan vs Alisha Edwards

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L-S0fKEaIqw&t=7s

There is said to be mutual respect between Hogan and Edwards heading into this match.

Edwards better not be too worried about the ongoing mental spiraling her husband is going through. If so, Hogan could likely pick up her 3rd televised victory for the promotion. She’s already defeated Laurel Van Ness and Taya Valkyrie (via DQ) so far this year.

Fallah Bah & KM vs the Desi Hit Squad

Last week, Bah and KM were given some advice from Scarlett Bordeaux. The Smoke Show expressed to KM that they had tried things his way and maybe they should try things Bah’s way now.

KM seemed to get behind the idea and even stressed he would be buying matching tights.

LAX Celebrate Their Street Fight Victory

LAX defeated the OGZ and took back possession of the Impact tag-team titles they never officially lost. Tonight, Santana and Ortiz will host a live in-ring celebration.

Perhaps King and the OGZ will be watching…

Matt Sydal In Single’s Action

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WGzp6buX6QA

Matt Sydal has had to find a new purpose and direction since losing the X-Division Championship at Slammiversary.

Sydal seems to have made peace with the fact that the X-Division Championship chose Cage and not him. He’ll continue his new journey tonight as he takes on a wrestler TBD (not Richard Justice).

Eddie Edwards Speaks

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kM11TQSlorM&t=182s&frags=pl%2Cwn

Eddie Edwards was robbed of his chance to win the Impact World Championship recently. Just when it seemed as though Edwards had the title won, Killer Kross interfered and cost him the match. It was then revealed that Kross and Aries are aligned.

Kross and Edwards took out Edwards again last week during a talking segment. Edwards is going to try things again tonight, however, and perhaps hope for a better result.

Mexican Death Match
Pentagon Jr. vs Sami Callihan

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6p_73F6etiA&t=8s

Impact Wrestling heads to Mexico in 3 weeks but tonight Mexico comes to the Impact ring. Callihan challenged Pentagon to this Mexican Death Match tonight.

The promotion is advertising that this will be the first Mexican Death Match ever broadcast on national television.

Last week’s quick results:

  1. Fenix defeated Sami Callihan
  2. Johnny Impact defeated Jimmy Jacobs via DQ
  3. Eli Drake defeated Joe Hendry
  4. Allie defeated Su Yung (non-title) via DQ
  5. Street Fight: LAX defeated OGZ

If you missed last week’s episode, check out our 9 Takeaways from Impact Wrestling 8/16.

NWA Announces 70th Anniversary Special Event

Billy Corgan’s National Wrestling Alliance is ready to produce their first show. The event will take place on October 21st from the Nashville Fairgrounds in Tennessee.

“It’s such an honor to be leading this historic brand into its next chapter,” Corgan said. “The enduring legacy of the National Wrestling Alliance — the men who forged it and the champions who defended it — illuminate our path in 2018. This event celebrates our first full year shepherding this brand while honoring the everlasting milestones, legends and champions of the NWA.”

The show will be available to purchase live through the FITE app.

Current NWA Champion, Nick Aldis, will next defend the title on September 1st against Cody. The result of that match could factor heavily into the booking of the NWA’s anniversary event.

NWA 70the Anniversary Special

The NWA will be running the show in conjunction with Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling. Jarrett was quoted in the press release. He had the following to say in regards to the event. “This will be an event no fan will want to miss, and I’m honored to work with Billy on a show of this magnitude,” Jarrett said.

After taking ownership of the NWA in October 2017, Corgan and company have slowly built the brand back to respectability. Then champion, Tim Storm, carried the title for a few months before dropping it to Aldis at a CZW event late last year.

Other NWA regulars in the last year have included Jocephus, Tim Storm, and Auston Idol.

Chris Jericho To Debut New Special On Travel Channel

Chris Jericho likes to keep busy. In addition to promoting a cruise, wrestling with NJPW, touring with Fozzy, and hosting his own podcast, Jericho has signed on for a special with the Travel Channel.

“The Legend of…With Chris Jericho” will debut on November 17th, 2018 at 11 PM.

Chris Jericho Travel Channel

The network describes the show as following Jericho while he “brings his lifelong fascination for history’s unexplained legends and the figures behind them to Travel Channel. Digging into the past, Jericho searches for answers that separate fact from fiction in order to find the true story behind the legend.”

A previous special involved Jericho searching for Butch Cassidy’s treasure. Jericho will now head to the Louisiana swamp to search for swamp creatures in this new special.

https://www.instagram.com/p/BbKa35fHgGE/?utm_source=ig_embed

What’s Next For Chris Jericho?

Jericho has said he pitched an idea to Vince McMahon for Summerslam this year. He pitched the idea of an IWGP Intercontinental Champion vs WWE Intercontinental Championship match. Jericho won the title from Tetsuya Naito at Destruction in Osaka on June 9th.

Following his cruise in October, Jericho will likely be looking to build toward a possible Tokyo Dome match with NJPW in January. Once 2019 begins, however, Jericho has promised things could get interesting.

Jericho has also said he is no longer sticking to his promise of only working for Vince McMahon in the United States.

Update On Pentagon Jr. and Fenix To WWE

New details have emerged in the ongoing saga of Pentagon Jr. and Fenix. Last week, it was reported the brothers have told promoters dates they committed to in 2019 were now in question. In an update to this story, it appears neither brother is accepting bookings beyond 2018 at the moment.

“The main thing is that both are not taking any dates in 2019,” wrote Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer. “Which is usually a sign of going to WWE.”

MLW pulled the brothers from an upcoming show in October amidst the rumors. They have both been booked for Impact’s Bound for Glory show that month, however. If the brothers planned on committing to any other promotion, they’d probably still be able to accept bookings considering the attitude towards exclusivity currently exhibited by non-WWE promoters such as Impact and MLW.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d50dB48baXw&frags=pl%2Cwn

Pentagon Jr and Fenix WWE Speculation

The Lucha Bros contracts with LU contain opt-out clauses following this season. Both would have to wait for 6-months after the season airs to debut for another promotion, however.

The departure of the brothers from the non-WWE scene could potentially affect multiple promotions. As of the beginning of yesterday’s episode of Lucha Underground (I haven’t seen the episode), Pentagon Dark is the LU Champion. The Lucha Brothers are also the MLW Tag-Team Champions and play a large role in Impact Wrestling as well.

WWE Evolution Main Event Expected To Be Ronda Rousey vs. Nikki Bella

There is another reliable report out regarding the planned WWE Evolution main event. According to the Wrestling Observer, Raw Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey will face Nikki Bella in the headline match of WWE’s historic all-women’s pay-per-view.

“The lead idea for the Evolution main event on 10/28 at the Nassau Coliseum is Rousey vs. Nikki Bella,” wrote Dave Meltzer. “With the idea you are headlining with the two biggest mainstream women stars in the company.”

Over the past week, we’ve seen The Bella Twins return to WWE television and Ronda Rousey capture the RAW Women’s Championship. At both SummerSlam and Raw, the Bella Twins have had stood alongside Rousey in celebrating her championship victory.

WWE Evolution takes place on Sunday, October 28th from Long Island, New York at the Nassau Coliseum. Expect to see more interactions between Rousey and the Bellas in the coming weeks. The Bellas have been supportive of Rousey thus far. It will be interesting to see how and when things go sideways.

Visit our WWE Evolution event page for more information.

WWE Evolution Main Event

The storyline may have already started to take shape this week. The Bellas were ringside during Rousey’s segment with Stephanie McMahon on Raw. They were also shown watching Rousey win the title at Summerslam.

The Bellas and Rousey are not strangers. The Bellas would sometimes train with Ronda when they were in California before Rousey got into the business herself. Rousey and her team would teach the twins MMA and judo moves, while the Bellas taught them wrestling moves. The Bellas and Rousey appeared together at the 2015 ESPY awards as well.

In 2015, Nikki told TMZ reporters she would love to face Ronda some day.

Update On Alberto El Patron’s Withdrawal From TripleMania

Alberto El Patron (Del Rio) has had a falling out with another pro-wrestling promotion. Yesterday, AAA Lucha Libre announced the full card for this weekend’s TripleMania show. Alberto was noticeably absent from the lineup.

“The promotion soured on him when he no-showed the Impact vs. AAA show in New Orleans and just felt with his track record that he wasn’t worth the risk,” wrote Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Earlier in the year, Alberto teased he would face a legendary opponent on the show. He has said he had talks with the promotion about wrestling against or teaming with Rey Mysterio Jr. for the event. While Albero has never officially left the promotion, his name has not been mentioned on their television in months.

Alberto El Patron TripleMania

AAA owner, Dorian Roldan, went public in Mexico saying Alberto’s no-showing the Impact vs LU was a significant factor. Alberto has gone public and said the two sides were negotiating after his no-show.

TripleMania takes place August 25th, 2018. The main event of the show will feature a 4-way cage match. Pentagon, Psycho Clown, El Hijo Del Fantasma, and LA Park will be the participants. After 2 luchadors have escaped the cage, the final two will wrestle a single’s match. The loser of that match also loses their mask.

The Young Bucks Release New Theme Music (Audio)

The Young Bucks will debut a new entrance at All In. Their new ring entrance music debuted earlier today, however, during an episode of Chris Jericho’s podcast.

The entrance music was produced by Meat Sauce Media in conjunction with Killing the Business. Check out the new Young Bucks theme in the player below:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8sMOe1qRQc&frags=pl%2Cwn

New Young Bucks Theme Music

The song is by the band Class of 88. On August 24th, fans will be able to purchase the theme on 7-inch vinyl which will also feature bonus tracks by “Papa Buck” Matthew Lee Massie.

Fans can also purchase a “Championship Gold Bundle” which features the vinyl and various Young Bucks merchandise.

“This exclusive CHAMPIONSHIP GOLD Bundle includes the Superkick Party 7? Gold Vinyl Variant with alternate cover artwork, printed on gold foil, and the bundle exclusive Superkick Party Shirt and Bumper Sticker,” states the Meat Sauce Media webpage.

The popular tag-team announced last week that a new theme song and new entrance would debut at All In “Nick and I are excited to announce, we will be debuting our new entrance & theme song at ALL IN!” Matt Jackson wrote on Twitter recently.

“Tune into @IAmJericho’s Podcast, Talk is Jericho on Aug 22 to check out the song in its entirety! (follow @MeatSauceM on Twitter for more)”

Following All In, the Young Bucks will defend their IWGP Heavyweight Tag-Team Championships against the Firing Squad at Fighting Spirit Unleashed.

Chris Jericho Reveals Vince McMahon’s Reaction to All In

On the latest episode of his Talk is Jericho podcast, Chris Jericho revealed how WWE Chairman Vince McMahon reacted when he learned about All In. The latest episode features an interview he conducted with Cody and the Young Bucks back in June. The interview took place in Osaka, Japan following NJPW’s “Destruction in Osaka” event.

Vince McMahon All In Reaction

Chris Jericho says he told Vince McMahon about All In earlier this year. Vince’s reaction was classic Vince. “I told Vince about All In about 4 or 5 months ago,” Jericho said. “We were just discussing and shooting the breeze and I said ‘Yeah the show’s in September in Chicago’ and Vince said ‘I wish they would have called me. September is the worst time of year to promote!'”

Jericho, Cody, and the Young Bucks got a good laugh at the notion of calling up Vince McMahon to get advice.  “Hey Vince, it’s Cody, I’ve got the Young Bucks on the phone,” Cody joked. “Couple of questions about promoting in the fall.”

“Don’t say ‘Rhodes’ haha,” Jericho joked in a Vince McMahon voice.

The story takes place just after the first commercial break in the episode. Subscribe to Talk is Jericho at iTunes.

NXT Preview 8/22: Preliminary Matches From Takeover: Brooklyn IV

Tonight’s episode of NXT will feature matches taped before Takeover: Brooklyn IV on Saturday night. The main event will feature a match for the United Kingdom Championship.

Two matches have been announced for tonight’s show. Fans can likely expect several highlight packages of Saturday’s Takeover event as well.

NXT 8/22 Preview

WWE United Kingdom Championship
Pete Dunne (c) vs Zack Gibson

The winner of the NXT U.K Championship tournament in London earlier this year will get another crack at Pete Dunne tonight. Dunne defeated Gibson in Royal Albert Hall following Gibson’s tournament victory.

Meanwhile, Dunne has expressed interest in challenging for Ricochet’s newly won NXT North American Championship. He’ll have to get by Gibson tonight for that to happen, however.

Bianca Belair vs Deonna Purrazzo

A back injury forced Bianca Belair out of title contention but she’ll return tonight to take on newcomer Deonna Purrazzo. Belair is hoping the newly signed Mae Young Classic competitor isn’t the first one to hand her a loss in NXT.

Purrazzo made her in-ring NXT debut at a live event on the 17th. She competed in the MYC tapings which were held on August 8th and 9th.

The fallout from NXT Takeover: Brooklyn IV

With two new champions crowned on Saturday, fans can expect to see plenty of the Takeover fallout tonight.

Ricochet is the new NXT North American Champion but you can bet Adam Cole won’t simply let that go without a fight. Shayna Baszler was also dethroned by Kairi Sane and does not appear finished with the original MYC winner either.

Jerry Lawler Provides Update On Brian Lawler Death Investigation

Jerry Lawler appeared on Local 24 Memphis recently to speak further about the investigation into his son’s death.

“It’s like a nightmare that we can’t wake up from”, Lawler said. “It seems like every day something new comes up, we hear something from someone that was either an eyewitness to incidents that happened the day that Brian died or people that have heard stories about just different things that went on in the jail.”

Yesterday, we reported that Lawler’s lawyers are trying to make sense of an affidavit filed regarding an inmate using Brian’s identity.

“Even as recently as just a couple days ago,” Lawler continued. “Somebody in the jail is still using Brian’s identity and was caught for identity theft.”

Brian Lawler Death Investigation

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is looking into the death. The Lawler family has consistently stated they doubt the official version of events which states Brian died via self-inflicted hanging.

“It just doesn’t pass the smell test,” Lawler said earlier this month. “We’ve received literally countless calls, text messages from people, actual eyewitnesses, that were in the jail and saw things that happened on the actual day that Brian died that now has opened up a new can of worms,” he continued. “It just doesn’t seem like it was suicide.”

Experts have also cast doubt on ligature marks found around Brian’s neck.

“Just look at his neck and look at his hand,” Lawler said earlier this month. “You can see the lines on his neck all the way around here to here and what would be the length of your hand as if he was trying to keep the pressure off.”

Luke Harper and Road Dogg Praise Rowan For Working Injured

Last night on Smackdown, the New Day defeated the Bludgeon Brothers to win the tag-team championships. Rowan entered the match with a torn biceps but competed hard anyway. He will have surgery next week and is expected to be out for 2-4 months.

Following the match, both Harper and Smackdown creative head, Road Dogg, offered praise for the man who worked the main event match while injured.

Smackdown Tag Team Division

Rowan’s injury means the tag-team division on Smackdown is opened up quite a bit moving forward. Now all the teams the Bludgeon Brothers defeated while champions are back in the mix.

During a backstage segment last night, the Bar and the Club scheduled a match for next week which could determine the New Day’s first title challengers.

Bludgeon Brothers Smackdown Tag Team Championship Reign

Harper and Rowan held the Smackdown Tag Team Championships for 135 days. They won the titles at WrestleMania 34 in a triple threat tag match against the Usos and New Day. The Usos were the champions going into the match.

BB then defeated the Usos at the Greatest Royal Rumble. They defeated the Club at Money in the Bank and then again on Smackdown just two days later. Harper and Rowan also defeated Team Hell No at Extreme Rules before dropping the Summerslam match to the New Day via DQ.

Impact Wrestling Announces UK Event Will Stream Live On Twitch

Villano III Has Passed Away

The world of Lucha Libre has lost a legend today. Villano III, real name Arturo Díaz Mendoza, passed away today at 66 years old. His death is believed to have been from a cerebral infarction.

“Villano III, one of the greatest stars of LLI (UWA), has passed away today.”

Villano III’s career began in the 1970s for the Universal Wrestling Association. His older brothers had already been wrestling professionally for a few years and his father, Ray Mendoza, had been a successful luchador already in his career. He leaves behind two sons, who wrestle as Villano’s IV and V.

“Villano III has passed away, the son of the late Ray Mendoza, and one of the biggest Lucha Libre performers of the past four decades.”

Villano III

In 2000, Villano III won the Wrestling Observer’s prestigious Match of the Year award for his bout versus Atlantis in Mexico City. His retirement match in 2015, however, earned Worst Match Of The Year as well. This was on the ill-fated TripleMania show which suffered from numerous production glitches.

Villano III won the WWC heavyweight championship on two occasions in Puerto Rico. He won the CMLL world light heavyweight championship once as well. Along with his sons, he held the AAA America’s Trios Championships twice.

Chris Jericho: Great Matches Don’t Matter

Chris Jericho believes match quality is overrated. To him, what sells a match or colors how it is perceived is the characters involved.

“I’m gonna go on record here,” Jericho said on a recent episode of his podcast. “Guess what guys? Great matches don’t matter. Here’s the secret to wrestling: personalities and character. That’s all that matters.”

Jericho expressed similar sentiment earlier this year during an appearance on Busted Open radio:

Chris Jericho on Dangerous Wrestling and Will Ospreay

Jericho would continue to use Will Ospreay as an example of what he means. Ospreay is often referred to as the next Dynamite Kid. In one respect, this is a compliment considering the success Tom Billington had. From another perspective, however, being the next Dynamite Kid could also mean a shortened career and limited mobility inlater life.

“People were predicting he’s gonna be the next Dynamite Kid,” Jericho said of Ospreay. “I called him on the phone and said, ‘dude you do not want to be the next Dynamite Kid. I want you to be around when you’re 47 just like me kicking ass. Stop doing stupid moves that don’t mean anything.'”

According to Jericho, he and Ospreay had a productive conversation and the popular junior heavyweight has toned down his style since.

Jericho also recalled the story of meeting Nick Bockwinkle at a TV taping in 1992. Bockwinkle, Jericho recalled, had a similar attitude to him that he now has given to Ospreay.

“I remember Nick Bockwinkle told me back in like 1992, at a TV taping in Winnipeg when he was there as a color commentator, ‘you do too much’.”

Smackdown and 205 Live Preview 8/21: Summerslam Fallout

WWE is back in the Barclay’s Center tonight for Smackdown and 205 Live. 4 matches have been booked for the two shows as well as several segments stemming from Sunday’s Summerslam.

Smackdown Preview 8/21

Smackdown Tag Team Championships
No Disqualification
The Bludgeon Brothers (c) vs New Day

New Day defeated the Bludgeon Brothers on Sunday via disqualification. The match result means BB keep the titles but will have to defend them again tonight.

General Manager Paige has made this match a No DQ rules bout, meaning the mallet blows which caused a disqualification on Sunday are perfectly legal tonight.

Rowan is believed to have suffered a torn bicep on Sunday so his status for the match is unclear. Big E was the one who took the mallet shot on Sunday and is probably injured in storyline. Woods is also likely banged up after delivering a flying elbow drop from the top turnbuckle to the outside.

Jeff Hardy vs Randy Orton

Sunday at Summerslam, Randy Orton walked to the ring following Nakamura’s victory over Hardy. Then Orton just turned around and went to the back. Tonight Hardy and Orton will go one-on-one.

Orton resents Hardy for being a crowd favorite when he feels he should receive that level of respect from fans.

How Nakamura and his US title factor into things here remains unclear.

Becky Lynch Explains Her Actions

Becky Lynch attacked her longtime friend Charlotte Flair following the triple threat match for the Smackdown Women’s Championship at Summerslam. The match had originally been scheduled as Lynch versus Carmela one-on-one for the title. Flair was only added after returning to Smackdown recently.

Lynch’s bitterness towards her friend for inserting herself into the title match was evident. She took the opportunity to attack Flair after she had won the title and again yesterday at a house show event.

Tonight, Lynch will explain her actions for anyone who can’t understand them already.

AJ Styles Exclusive Interview

Samoa Joe defeated AJ styles via disqualification on Sunday night. Joe had gotten under the champion’s skin for repeatedly insinuating his family is upset he’s on the road so much.

Tonight, AJ will give an exclusive interview and answer questions regarding his actions from two nights ago. Samoa Joe will likely be on-hand and could demand another shot at the WWE Championship as well.

What’s Next For the Miz and Daniel Bryan?

The Miz will likely want to gloat about his victory over Daniel Bryan and promote his reality series tonight. Bryan was seething after his controversial loss to Miz on Sunday. Maryse passed Miz a foreign object during the match which he then used to defeat his rival.

205 Live 8/21

Buddy Murphy and Tony Nese vs the Lucha House Party

Workout buddies, Buddy Murphy and Tony Nese will form a tag-team tonight. They will take on Kalisto and Lince Dorado. The 3rd member of the Lucha House Party, Grand Metalik, has been dealing with Visa problems lately. He could be back tonight but he’s not scheduled for this match.

Noam Dar vs TJP

This will be the rubber match between these two. Noam Dar defeated TJP a few weeks ago in his return to the division. TJP evened the series between them just two weeks ago, however.

Tonight, either Dar or TJP move closer to a cruiserweight title shot and the other moves farther away from one.

Brian Lawler Death Investigation Update: New Twist, Lawyer Doubts Official Record

As new details regarding the death of Brian Christopher are becoming known, what exactly happened is becoming less clear.

An affidavit filed last week is stating that inmate Danterriaus Jones committed identity fraud concerning Christopher’s information. Jones made several phone calls from prison using Christopher’s information before Christopher’s death. He used Christopher’s social security number which is required for outgoing prison phone calls. One of the calls is believed to have taken place on July 28th, the day before Christopher died.

Jones is believed to have called the Lawler family and said Brian had been assaulted and had a concussion. The next day when Christopher was being transported for medical care, Jones then called members of his own family.

Jones is being charged with identity theft but lawyers believe this is being done in an attempt to discredit potential future testimony from him. It is possible Jones would testify he was told to notify the Lawler family that Brian had been assaulted in prison the day before he died.

“If you’re skeptical, you might think that there’s a witness in the Hardeman County Jail that someone is attempting to discredit,” Lawler lawyer Ted Hamson said. “That’s one scenario that makes sense.”

The Lawler family has stated they doubt Christopher died via suicide. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is currently looking into the matter.

Private investigators have also raised concerns regarding the evidence in the case. The lack of ligature marks around the neck has been raised by experts.

Brian Christopher Death Investigation

In addition to attempting to contact the Lawler family, Jones did use Christopher’s identity to make calls to his own family, which is likely what is leading to the charge.

“At some point, Brian clearly gave this guy his PIN number,” Hansom continued. “He (Lawler) told him to call his family and let Jerry know what was going on. All that is consistent. After Brian was transported to the Med, this guy attempted to contact his own family to tell them what was going on. But again, nobody has complained about it.”

Pentagon and Fenix Miss Event, Promoter Questions Their Reason

Pentagon and Fenix missed an indy event Friday night in California. The promoter who booked them for the show appears unsure about the reasons he was given for their last-minute cancellation.

Pro Wrestling Revolution was only able to notify fans a few hours before bell-time that neither Pentagon nor Fenix would be attending the show. PWR owner, Gabriel Ramirez, posted the following on the matter:

“Pentagón 0M told me he hurt is back in Naucalpa,” Ramirez wrote on Facebook. “When we spoke he was at a chiropractor getting adjusted and then called me to tell me that the doctor told him he needed to rest his body for 4 days.”

Ramirez then said he offered to pay Pentagon to come to the event and not wrestle but Pentagon said the flight would be too much on his back. He continued to say Pentagon sent him a clip from the match where he was injured which can be viewed through this link.

It is being said that both brothers then wrestled a match in Mexico Sunday night but I can’t find an official record of this match.

Did The Lucha Bros No-Show An Event on Friday Night?

News that the Lucha Bros may have skipped out on a booking comes on the heels of rumors the brothers could be jumping ship to WWE in 2019. The Lucha Bros have told promoters that dates which they had previously committed to in 2019 are now in question.

As it concerns their status with Major League Wrestling, the brothers were pulled from an upcoming October event amid the rumors. In terms of their Lucha Underground contracts, the brothers are believed to be able to opt-out after the current season finishes airing. Their relationship with Impact Wrestling appears unaffected by the rumors, however. The brothers are booked for a key match at Bound for Glory and played a big role in the tapings held last week.

Hiromu Takahashi Vacates IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship, Tournament Announced

Hiromu Takahashi has officially vacated the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship. Takahashi won the title earlier this year after also winning the 2018 Best of the Super Juniors tournament.

Takahashi was injured at last month’s G1 Special in San Francisco show. He was dropped on his head by Dragon Lee during a cradle-suplex spot. Takahashi finished the match but collapsed backstage and was taken to a hospital.

He suffered a broken neck but is believed to be on track to return to the ring in 9-12 months. Takahashi has now vacated the title due to his injury.

IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Tournament

NJPW has scheduled a 4-man single-elimination tournament to declare a new IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. All 4 wrestlers have held the title on at least 1 occasion previously.

The tournament will begin on September 23rd from Beppu.

  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Semi-Final
    Kushida vs Bushi

the next semi-final will be held in Long Beach at Fighting Spirit Unleashed on September 30th.

  • IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship Semi-Final
    Will Ospreay vs Marty Scurll

The finals of the tournament will be held at King of Pro Wrestling on October 8th, 2018. No other matches have been announced for the show thus far.

The announcement of the tournament comes at the same time the promotion has released the full cards for the Destruction tour. Just two matches have been announced thus far for Fighting Spirit Unleashed.

The Firing Squad To Challenge The Young Bucks in Long Beach, Confirm New Member

Bullet Club’s Firing Squad have recently been scheduled for two upcoming title matches in NJPW. Although NJPW President, Harold Meij, threatened the group with suspensions due to their repeated interference during the G1, the faction is once again back on the promotion’s tours for September.

Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa vs the Young Bucks

The biggest upcoming match for the faction will take place September 30th in Long Beach. Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa will challenge for the IWGP Heavyweight tag-team Championships at Fighting Spirit Unleashed. They will take on their rivals from Bullet Club Elite, the Young Bucks.

Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa, and Taiji Ishimori Defend NEVER 6-Man Championships

The Firing Squad won the NEVER 6-Man tag-team Championships on the final day of the G1 Climax tour. They then threw the belts down in front of Harold Meij. Now, Meij has scheduled for the group to defend the titles on the September 15th show from Hiroshima.

The Firing Squad will defend their titles against Juice Robinson, David Finlay, and Ryusuke Taguchi.

Since their original attack following the G1 Special in San Francisco, the group has added a few wrestlers. The original names confirmed were Haku, Tama Tonga, and Tanga Loa but quickly it would be confirmed that Bad Luck Fale and HIKULEO were both aligned with the faction as well.

The group then added Taiji Ishimori on the final days of the G1 tour. They have now added Gino Gambino from Melbourne City Wrestling. The faction, Fale most notably, spend a lot of time on the continent. Fale has a dojo in New Zealand and has worked with Gambino often. Gambino frequently tags with Bullet Club members when they tour the territory.
