WCPW To Announce New GM at Refuse to Lose PPV

It’s certainly been a busy few days for What Culture Pro Wrestling. After announcing the departure of several on-air personalities the company has now revealed that a new General Manager will be unveiled. The company will make the official announcement at their next Pay Per View offering ‘Refuse to Lose.’

WCPW sent out the following press release:

“WCPW can today announce that Adam Blampied will be stepping down from his role as on-screen General Manager

We’d like to thank Adam for all his work and wish him well in his future endeavours.

We’ll be unveiling our new General Manager at Refuse To Lose on October 2nd.”

Departing WCPW Talents Tease New Venture

It looks as though the departing on-air personalities from WCPW aren’t wasting any time…

Pro Wrestling Sheet has announced that a new business venture called Cultaholics Ventures Limited has been formed with the following primary officers:

  • Head of Creative – Adam Blampied
  • Head of Production – Sam Driver
  • Managing Director – Adam Pacitti
  • Editor-in-Chief – Ross Tweddell

None of the crew from WCPW has made any official announcement on the news however the documentation for the new business states that “video production and news agency activities” are on the agenda.

Adam Blampied recently posted this tweet teasing the new venture:

Kenny Omega ‘100%’ for Destruction in Kobe this Sunday

Tokyo Sports has announced that NJPW star Kenny Omega is ‘100%’ for New Japan’s Destruction in Kobe event this Sunday.

Omega recently suffered from an injury to his left meniscus, his time frame for return was tentatively scheduled to be Kobe on Sunday however with this report it looks to be official. Omega is scheduled to defend his IWGP United States Championship at the show against Juice Robinson.

WCPW Sees Mass Exodus of On Air Talent

WhatCulture has today announced the departure of several on air talents from their WCPW branch of the business.

Popular figures Adam Blampied, Adam Pacitti, Ross Tweddell, Sam Driver and Jack King will be leaving the company in the coming weeks to ‘pursue other projects.’

Fans of both WCPW and WhatCulture’s Wrestling YouTube channel have voiced their displeasure on social media (just check out some of the comments from the tweet below) and while WhatCulture has announced plans to ‘introduce brand new shows’ and ‘brand new personalities’ it is difficult to see how the company pushes their wrestling branded content with essentially the ‘heart’ of the project ripped out.

XWA (UK) Announce ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway?’ Concept for London Show feat. Simon Gotch

XWA, the UK promotion that brought you Kota Ibushi shooting himself with fireworks, will be hosting a five round ‘live improv’ concept called ‘Whose Clothesline Is It Anyway?’ at the Resistance Gallery in London on October 7th, obviously inspired by the extremely successful ‘Whose Line Is It Anyway’ television show.

XWA has been a company that continually strives to innovate ever since their inception, realising that the UK wrestling scene has been booming for the couple of years and therefore being more crowded than ever, XWA (as well as sister promotion Pro Wrestling EVE) has been looking to present their shows in a different way, this concept shows just one aspect of how they’re ‘different’ and in many ways weird and wonderful.

WWE.com Shares Backstage Footage after ICW World Title Match Involving Kassius Ohno

ICW recently announced that their World Champion Joe Coffey would be facing NXT superstar Kassius Ohno with his prestigious gold on the line. This was huge news for fans of the UK scene as a contracted NXT star challenging for a belt outside of WWE is obviously not considered normal practice.

The bout took place this past Sunday and WWE.com has shared footage from the aftermath of the titanic fight, check it out below:

Big Things Ahead for Pro Wrestling EVE (UK)?

Uk based company Pro Wrestling EVE has been booming recently, having been featured in many mainstream media outlets such as the BBC, New York Times, London’s Metro and Time Out to name a few.

The all female promotion has certainly benefitted from the mega success of GLOW and the renewed focus on Women’s wrestling with events such as the Mae Young Classic but in truth it is the rabid, hardcore fan base of EVE and the progressive nature of their presentation that has fuelled their sell out shows and driven the company into the mainstream.

With the announcement of 5* Wrestling reportedly heading for UK TV and the (currently unknown) future of World of Sport there is an opportunity for a new style and presentation of pro wrestling on UK television. Although company owners Emily and Dann Read have not revealed any concrete plans they did post the following tweet from outside one of the UK’s biggest stations Channel 4 yesterday:

https://twitter.com/ProWrestlingEVE/status/907991970668318720

Is there a chance that we could see Pro Wrestling EVE make the jump to National TV in the UK?

Kassius Ohno to Compete for the ICW World Title

Insane Championship Wrestling has just announced a huge bout for their ‘Infamous’ event on September 17th.

NXT superstar Kassius Ohno will be competing against Joe Coffey for the ICW World Heavyweight Championship. ICW and WWE have had a very intriguing business relationship, with Finn Balor, Mick Foley and Noam Dar all having appeared for the company whilst under contract to WWE. This match seems a little more intriguing however, as Ohno is one of NXT’s most prestigious former ‘indie’ guys and he has a history within the UK scene, expect this to be a hard hitting affair.

Promotion That Offered CM Punk $1 Million Dollars Get TV Deal in the UK

UK TV Channel FreeSports has announced that controversial promotion 5 Star Wrestling will be broadcasting live on the platform throughout 2018.

You may remember 5* being in the news earlier this year when owner Daniel Hinkles offered CM Punk $1 Million dollars to compete in their 128-man tournament which has since been postponed.

To further add to the confusion and controversy, highly rated UK promotion Preston City Wrestling (PCW) were reportedly in talks with FreeSports before this was announced.

Several big names in UK wrestling have slated the move, going so far as to say that it is hugely detrimental to the progress that the UK scene has enjoyed over the past few years.

Kota Ibushi Talks G1, his NJPW Return and More

New Japan Pro Wrestling star Kota Ibushi recently spoke to the New Japan English language site NJPW1972.com on a variety of topics including the G1 Climax tournament, his long awaited return to the company and his brutal Kamigoye! move, here are some of the highlights:

–OK, first let’s talk about you being back in a New Japan ring, and being such a focal part of the G1. It’s been a couple of weeks now, looking back, how was the G1 for you?

Ibushi: Ultimately I wrestled more in that one month than in the two years before. I was a little wary of that beforehand, doing two years worth of matches in such a short time, but it actually turned out OK.

–Before the G1 started, you mentioned that New Japan today is a different place from when you were last here. How do you feel about that now?

Ibushi: I think New Japan started, in about 2014, 2015 advancing to a new level. 2016 I wasn’t around, so coming back in 2017 it really feels like they’ve kicked into this higher gear… although a part of that is a little dangerous, a little frightening.

–You said about the 2015 G1 that the only word that sprang to mind was ‘tough’. How did this year compare?

Ibushi: This year was just so much fun. Some of the most pure, genuine fun I’ve had in wrestling. I haven’t felt anything like that recently.

–Not in WWE?

Ibushi: Right, not in WWE.

–Why do you think this time was so enjoyable?

Ibushi: This time it was about wrestling the way I wanted to wrestle. I always want to make the fans happy when I wrestle, but this time, more than that, I did what I wanted.

–When we talked to you at your public workout, you said you wanted to debut a new move, but that became you saying you couldn’t do it. Was debuting Kamigoe up in the air for you?

Ibushi: I actually had the move in mind for a while, so it wasn’t quite a matter of ‘this is the new move’, more that I wanted to see just how much power I could get behind that knee, and I couldn’t know for sure without trying it in a match

–To a lot of long term New Japan fans, the move and its name will have them thinking of a certain wrestler.

Ibushi: To tell the truth, I’ve wanted to use a Boma-Ye like move for a long time. I’ve given a lot of thought to using the Boma-Ye.

–That being the finish for Shinsuke Nakamura, in WWE now.

Ibushi: With that connection to Nakamura, I’d have liked to have pulled it off soon after he left for America, but I was away at that point..

–You missed your chance then, and decided to use it on your comeback instead.

Ibushi: Ever since we first faced each other in 2013, I’d felt I wanted to add something of Shinsuke’s to my moveset. Actually before he went to WWE, I met with Shinsuke. I don’t know whether he was kidding or not, but he told me ‘go ahead, you should totally use the Boma-Ye’. Those word stuck with me. I think it was a test, in a way.

NJPW September Event Listings

Havoc is well renowned for his ‘King of the Deathmatch’ moniker and he won this year’s iteration of CZW’s Tournament of Death. Nia Jax Burns Emma on Twitter

WWE superstar Emma recently spoke to Newshub on her use of social media and how it helps her ‘stand out’ in WWE, her #GiveEmmaAChance campaign has been gaining traction over the last few months.

It seems as though Emma’s attempts to get more screen time has drawn the ire of Nia Jax, she recently replied to a tweet Emma sent regarding the RAW Women’s Championship bout at No Mercy blasting her short lived ‘Emmalina’ persona:

Young Bucks No Longer Allowed to use “Suck It” Crotch Chop

It appears as though WWE are beginning to crack down on ‘parodies’ of their intellectual property…

The Young Bucks announced recently via Twitter that they would no longer be using the ‘Suck It’ crotch chop, they indicated that this was due to a cease & desist notice from WWE on Being The Elite.

https://twitter.com/MattJackson13/status/901873402423554053

The Bucks have now taken a comical swipe at WWE over the announcement of a Christmas Day RAW, you can check out the tweet that Nick Jackson sent below:

https://twitter.com/NickJacksonYB/status/904865501741907968

This may seem like a small and petty move on WWE’s part however it plays into a bigger picture, you may recall AJ Styles recently claiming that The Young Bucks would be in WWE within 5 years. Well moves like this that could affect The Buck’s livelihood certainly won’t edge them any closer to signing a contract with WWE.
