Alex Shelley WWE: Signing Rumors Explained

The Motor City Machine Guns, consisting of Alex Shelley and Chris Sabin, became free agents on April 1 after departing from TNA Wrestling.

This immediately sparked rumors of their potential signing with All Elite Wrestling (AEW), but as time has passed without confirmation, attention has turned to another genuine possibility: WWE.

Alex Shelley WWE Interest and Negotiations

Recent reports from the likes of PWN on Discord suggest that Shelley and Sabin have been in discussions with WWE.

Although specific details remain scarce, the interest from WWE appears genuine. WWE superstar Tommaso Ciampa further fuelled these rumors by posting a photo of the duo on his Instagram stories.

Additionally, Alex Shelley himself has hinted at a potential WWE signing through a cryptic Instagram post, which began “This past week, I celebrated the 4th of July by (maybe) having my final match at @beyondwrestling for awhile.”

Social Media Hints and Speculation

Fans were taken aback by Shelley’s Instagram post, which perhaps indicated that he was wrestling his final matches on the independent circuit, at least “for a while.”

This sort of move is, generally, seen as a precursor to signing with WWE, given that AEW would be more inclined to allow talent to work independent dates whilst signed to All Elite.

What Signing the Motor City Machine Guns Means for WWE

Should WWE secure the signatures of the Motor City Machine Guns, it would be a significant acquisition for the tag team divisions on RAW, SmackDown or NXT.

The duo is highly regarded in the wrestling world, known for their fantastic tenure in TNA where they won multiple World Tag Team Championships.

Despite both members being over 40, they continue to perform at a high level. WWE has successfully managed to bring in TNA veteran stars like AJ Styles, suggesting that Shelley and Sabin could also thrive in WWE’s environment.

Mariah May: Everything You Need To Know About The AEW Star

Mariah May is one of the top women’s wrestlers in the world and has been a vital part of the AEW roster since her arrival back in November 2023. However, many wrestling fans who primarily consume WWE content aren’t familiar with her work and this guide aims to help change that.

May has been in the industry for quite some time, and her early run alongside Toni Storm and then turning on her ‘mentor’ is just a small part of what she has accomplished in the industry. We’ll be going over all all of the questions that fans are asking about the All Elite Wrestling star and 2024 Women’s Owen Hart Tournament winner.

Wrestling Career

Early Days in Japan

Mariah May’s wrestling career took a significant turn when she ventured into the Japanese wrestling scene. In 2022, she made her debut in Japan with World Wonder Ring Stardom, one of the most prestigious women’s wrestling promotions in the world. Her debut came at Stardom’s Dream Queendom 2, where she aligned with Mina Shirakawa and former WWE NXT UK Superstar Xia Brookside to form the faction known as Club Venus.

May’s time in Stardom was marked by notable achievements and memorable matches. She quickly established herself as a formidable competitor, donning the persona of Sexy Dynamite Princess. One of her early highlights was participating in the Cinderella Tournament 2023, where she advanced to the second round before being eliminated by Mai Sakurai.

AEW

Mariah May, a top free agent in wrestling with interest from both WWE and AEW, signed with All Elite Wrestling in November 2023. Upon her debut, she expressed admiration for AEW Women’s World Champion “Timeless” Toni Storm, which led to a well-crafted storyline where Storm adopted May as her protégé. Storm’s character work flourished, with May serving as the perfect counterpart. As they transitioned from heels to tweeners due to fan support, their dynamic evolved, culminating in memorable moments like May adopting Storm’s old persona and a romantic angle with Mina Shirakawa.

May’s journey saw her win the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament, earning a match against Storm for the AEW Women’s World Championship. In a dramatic twist, May turned on Storm after her tournament victory, attacking her with the Owen Hart Foundation title belt. This betrayal set the stage for a highly anticipated showdown at AEW’s biggest event of the year, All In, at London’s Wembley Stadium.

Personal Life

Who is Mariah May’s Husband?

Mariah May is married to British pro wrestling star Danny Duggan. Duggan has appeared for a number of companies in the UK, including PROGRESS, where he was part of the Do Not Resuscitate stable alongside Spike Trivet, Chuck Mambo, William Eaver and Drew Parker.

Mariah May Instagram

Mariah May is quite active on Instagram under the handle @MariahMayx. Her account is a mix of personal insights, professional updates, and glamorous photoshoots.

Mariah May YouTube

In addition to her wrestling career, Mariah May has a YouTube channel where she shares a variety of content, including vlogs, wrestling insights, fashion tips, and gaming videos.

Is Mariah May Tiffany Stratton?

Mariah May and WWE’s Tiffany Stratton have often been compared by fans due to their similar looks and wrestling styles.

Stratton, addressing these comparisons in an interview with ComicBook Nation, stated: “Just because we have the same coloured hair it does not mean that we look alike or we stealing each other’s gimmicks or styles.

“I get compared to so many other people, Trish Stratus, Charlotte Flair. Honestly, I think everyone is on their own path, and I think Mariah May is amazing. She’s such a great wrestler, she’s gorgeous.”

WWE SummerSlam 2024 Card Predictions: CM Punk, Cody Rhodes & More

As WWE SummerSlam 2024 approaches, fans are gearing up for a night filled with unforgettable matches and epic showdowns. WWE pulls out all the stops for the ‘Big Five’ events and the ‘Biggest Party of the Summer’ will be no exception.

WWE SummerSlam 2024 takes place Saturday, August 3 from Cleveland, OH at Cleveland Browns Stadium. The event will stream live on Peacock and the WWE Network.

Based on the storyline developments we’re tracking for Raw and SmackDown, along with own our own insights, we’re predicting five matches to round out the card.

WWE SummerSlam Confirmed Matches

As of this writing, two championship matches are official:

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Damian Priest (c) vs. Gunther

Damian Priest will put his WWE World Heavyweight Championship on the line against Gunther after the Austrian star won the King of the Ring tournament.

Drew McIntyre and Damian Priest

WWE Women’s Championship: Bayley (c) vs. Nia Jax

Bayley, the reigning WWE Women’s Champion, will be defending her title against the Nia Jax at SummerSlam after Jax won the Queen of the Ring tournament.

WWE SummerSlam Match Card Predictions

1. WWE Tag Team Championships: DIY (c) vs. Street Profits

Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa, collectively known as DIY, will probably defend their newly won WWE Tag Team Championships against the Street Profits.

SummerSlam is taking place in Cleveland Browns Stadium, and Gargano is a big Browns fan, so the company will probably want him on the card to get a big pop.

2. WWE United States Championship: Logan Paul (c) vs. LA Knight

Logan Paul will probably defend his WWE United States Championship against LA Knight, a match that has been building for months.

This title match has been building for the past few months and Paul himself is also from Cleveland…although it will probably be Knight getting a major win here for his first main roster title in WWE.

3. WWE Women’s World Championship: Liv Morgan (c) vs. Rhea Ripley

Liv Morgan is hopefully going to face Rhea Ripley, who will be on a quest for revenge after being sidelined by Morgan and the current Champion trying to ‘steal’ her man Dominik.

It all depends on whether or not Ripley has recovered from injury, but this will be a big-time match on the card if it does happen.

4. CM Punk vs Drew McIntyre vs Seth Rollins

If you were to ask me what CM Punk’s match at SummerSlam would be just a week ago I’d say that Punk vs Drew McIntyre was a shoe-in.

However, with Punk costing Seth Rollins the chance to challenge for the World Heavyweight Championship whilst Damian Priest is Champion, it makes sense to turn this into a three way.

5. Undisputed WWE Championship: Cody Rhodes (c) vs. Solo Sikoa

Cody Rhodes will most likely defend his Undisputed WWE Championship against Solo Sikoa, who has emerged as a top contender since his rise to the defacto ‘Tribal Chief’ in the Bloodline.

We will check back when the WWE SummerSlam 2024 match card is finalized and will grade our own predictions.

Triple H Shares a Moment Backstage With WWE Legend at MITB

WWE’s Chief Content Officer Triple H shared a moment backstage with company legend John Cena during Money in the Bank tonight.

In a video posted to X/Twitter, HHH referred to Cena as “The Greatest of All Time” and they spoke for a second on camera.

Triple H shares a moment with John Cena

Cena confirmed on the Premium Live Event that he is now essentially on his retirement tour, with the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania in 2025 being the last time he will compete at those specific events.

As of writing, we do not know who Cena will be facing during his final few months with the company, but it will certainly be pushed heavily as WWE heads to Netflix in early 2025.

John Cena Announces 2025 Retirement At WWE Money in the Bank

WWE legend John Cena has confirmed that he will be retiring in 2025.

The 16-time World champion made a surprise appearance at Saturday’s Money in the Bank premium live event from Toronto to announce his retirement tour.

While he did not specify when his final match will take place, he confirmed that next year will be his last time competing at the Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania. He also said he’ll be there when WWE Raw officially moves to Netflix in January 2025, so we can expect Cena to be quite active during the final run of his career.

Who could John Cena face in his final match?

Randy Orton, for example, would be the perfect final opponent for Cena, as both men were the top names of the company back in the mid to late 2000s and had arguably one of the biggest feuds of the “PG” era.

A younger(ish) name like LA Knight would also make sense, as putting over a newer talent on his way out could certainly help someone’s career (although don’t ask Austin Theory if his win over Cena helped his career trajectory…).

Cena also confirmed during his promo segment at MITB that he would be opening the MITB Post-Show Press Conference and answering “any and all questions” about his impending retirement.

WWE News: Bron Breakker Gets New Entrance Music

WWE Superstar Bron Breakker got brand new entrance music ahead of his IC Title match against Sami Zayn at Money in the Bank.

Def Rebel, the team behind the majority of WWE Superstar entrance music over the past few years, has taken a lot of flak for their work on certain themes, but this new one for Breakker appears to have been a hit with fans.

WWE News: Bron Breakker’s new theme

The overwhelming feeling on X/Twitter appeared to be that this new entrance song for the former NXT Champion is a “rare W” for Def Rebel.

Hopefully the company decides to stick with his new presentation for Breakker and he can continue to get over on the main roster.

WWE Money in the Bank Rumors: Fans Convinced Legend is Returning

WWE Money in the Bank is set to take place tonight, and a number of fans have convinced themselves that a legend is making a return.

Although it has not been reported pretty much anywhere reputable in the past week or so, many, MANY fans online believe that AJ Lee will be returning to the company tonight.

AJ Lee rumors running rampant

One of the primary reasons that people believe that she will be returning is to cost Drew McIntyre the chance to become Mr MITB, to further the feud between the Scottish Warrior and her husband CM Punk.

Again, there have been ZERO reports of her making a return ANYWHERE, but the rumor mill continues to roll on and people are getting themselves into frenzy (as always).

Here’s a smattering of the chatter on X/Twitter right now:

We aren’t saying that it won’t happen, but something of this magnitude being withheld from every outlet would be another impressive move from the Triple H regime in 2024.

WWE Money in the Bank: TNA Referee Suggests Hilarious MITB Moment

TNA referee Daniel Spencer has suggested a hilarious WWE Money in the Bank moment that we sadly won’t be seeing materialize.

Taking to X/Twitter, Spencer suggested that R-Truth should win the MITB briefcase and then try to cash in during a TNA show:

“Missed Opportunity for @RonKillings to be in #MITB match, win it and then show up at @ThisIsTNA to cash it in ??.”

R-Truth/Ron Killings in TNA

Ron Killings/R-Truth was previously in TNA in the mid-2000s following his run in the-then WWF as K-Kwik, and with his current gimmick of getting confused…pretty easily…and NXT’s current crossover with TNA, it certainly could’ve been a funny moment.

It’s unlikely we’ll see something like that happen, but it’s not that bad of an idea!

Bryan Danielson advances in the Owen Hart Tournament at AEW Forbidden Door 2024

Bryan Danielson has advanced in the Owen Hart Tournament after defeating Shingo Takagi at the AEW Forbidden Door 2024 PPV event.

It was a fantastic back and forth match between both competitors, with the winner set to face PAC ahead of All In at Wembley Stadium in August.

It was confirmed that PAC vs Danielson will be taking place this week on the special AEW Dynamite Beach Break themed event.

Bryan Danielson vs Shingo Takagi at AEW Forbidden Door 2024

Speaking ahead of the match with Justin Barasso of Sports Illustrated, Takagi revealed that he saw the match as a dream match for the fans.

“If the fans are happy, then I’m happy. I think this is the result and a recognition of all that Bryan has accomplished in his career, and all I’ve done in my career. I like that this will be on display worldwide. The whole world will see true ‘Made in Japan’ spirit. It’s a real dream match, a real dream situation for the fans worldwide. This is something that will send shockwaves through the wrestling world.”

It is not currently known if Danielson is planned to go all the way in the tournament, as a rumored match with Nigel McGuinness has apparently been on the cards for some time and it was expected to have taken place at All In last year before Danielson was injured.

Danielson is winding down his in-ring career this year, so the prospect of getting another match between he and his hated ROH rival one more time at the biggest venue possible in London, England could be too good to pass up for Tony Khan and co.
