AJ Styles Talks Rival Promotions To WWE Not ‘Being In The Same Ballgame’

WWE Superstar AJ Styles appeared for some promotional interviews during WWE’s overseas tour this past week. The former WWE Champion gave some interesting points regarding WWE and the state of their competition.

Styles stated that it is tough to realise the size of WWE until you actually get there. AJ has of course appeared across the world for the likes of ROH, NJPW and TNA (now IMPACT). When asked what the difference is between these promotions and WWE Styles mentioned that “I think the main difference in the WWE is once you get there is you understand how huge, how massive the WWE actually is. It’s a lot bigger than you could ever know, unless you’ve been somewhere else and thought, ‘Oh, we’re going to compete with WWE,’ but really, you never were even in the ballgame.”

Styles elaborated further, saying that “It’s so much bigger than any place I’ve ever been. But you could only find that out once you work here and see how much is done, how many people work to make this the best sports entertainment place to be.”

AJ will be challenging Seth Rollins for the WWE Universal Championship tonight at Money In The Bank. Keep checking back for our live coverage throughout the night.

Tony Khan Talks About How AEW Will Differ From WWE

All Elite Wrestling/AEW will be presenting their first official PPV event ‘Double or Nothing’ next Sunday May 25th. The President of AEW Tony Khan recently spoke to ITV. The UK version of the PPV will be available on the ITV Box Office platform.

“We are going to be offering a great sporting centric product,” stated Khan. “We are going to be focused on the athletes. Focused on the work and we have some of the best wrestlers in the world and I really want to showcase them. But they also are some of the most dynamic personalities. I don’t want people to think that this is just going to be great matches. There is going to be a lot of great matches. But it is also going to be some of the most entertaining guys in pro wrestling and these guys are going to be unleashed. You are going to see their personalities and I have spoken with the men and women in this group and there are some great personalities and those personalities are going to shine.”

Khan elaborated further, saying “The shows are going to be great and not what people expect. We are going to take the matches seriously. I want wins and losses to matter. That is the point of wrestling, everyone is striving to be a champion and your stature in the company is marked by your win-loss record. I think it’s going to be a different wrestling show then people have seen, and the best wrestling show people have seen.”

It will be interesting to see if the statistics AEW are promising and the ‘win-loss’ count will help them differentiate enough against WWE.

WWE Issues Statement On Death of Silver King

Famous luchador Silver King (Cesar Gonzalez) passed away last night after suffering a stroke mid-match against Juventud Guerrera. He was 51-years-old.

WWE has released a statement on the passing of the iconic Luchador, saying:

“WWE is saddened to learn that Lucha Libre legend and former WCW star Silver King has passed away at age 51. A champion luchador in his native Mexico, Silver King, real name César Cuauhtémoc González Barrón, entertained audiences across the globe, and was a standout in WCW’s Cruiserweight division in the late ’90s. Outside the ring, he appeared under a mask as the villainous Ramses in the popular 2006 comedy ‘Nacho Libre.’ WWE extends its deepest condolences to Silver King’s family, friends and fans.

Silver King – 1968-2019

Gonzalez wrestled as part of WCW’s Cruiserweight division from 1997 to 2000. He unsuccessfully challenged Juventud Guerrera for the Cruiserweight title at Fall Brawl 1998 in what was arguably his highest profile match for the promotion. Gonzalez would also join the Latino World Order while in WCW.

After WCW, he went to Japan and wrestled as Black Tiger from 2001 to 2006. He is the 3rd wrestler to have adopted the gimmick. After losing a mask vs mask match to LA Park, however, Gonzalez returned to the Silver King gimmick. In 2008, he returned to Mexico and had been wrestling with AAA ever since.

Gonzalez is a former CMLL heavyweight champion, 2x CMLL tag team champion, 1x trios champion, and also held the AAA tag team championships along with Ultimo Gladiador.

Kofi Kingston Talks ‘Wild’ 24 Hours After Winning WWE Championship

WWE Champion Kofi Kingston won his title in rapturous fashion at WrestleMania 35. The New Day member defeated The New Daniel Bryan to win his first ever World Championship in the company back in April.

Kofi recently spoke to Vicente Beltran from ViBe & Wrestling about the ‘wild’ 24 hours he had after winning the Championship. “It’s funny you should say that regarding the first 24 hours,” Kingston said. “I got an hour and a half of sleep, had media day with Becky Lynch. I came back had breakfast with my family.”

During breakfast with his family Kofi had an interesting call. “I had a phone call that said AJ Styles was injured and unable to do his VIP Signing at Axxess. So, I had to leave breakfast with my family, go immediately to Axxess and have a two-hour signing. Finally came back, I thought I would be able to get some sleep and then my high school wrestling coach called and said someone from the Boston Globe wanted to do an interview with me. I did the interview and in the middle of doing the interview, I got a text from our talent relations team asking me to call them back and after the interview I did. They told me I was needed for Raw. I said okay let me try and get some sleep.”

Kofi elaborated further on his draining day, saying “I laid down for about 20 minutes and the called back and said I was needed right now. So, I went to the Barclays Center for Raw and had the match with (Seth) Rollins that ended up being a tag match against the Bar. And then we had SmackDown the next day.”

Ryback Reveals Legal Letter From WWE Regarding Use Of His Social Media Accounts

Former WWE Superstar Ryback has been fairly vocal about the company since his departure. PWInsider recently reported that WWE has the power to control their Superstar’s Twitter accounts. When a new talent signs with the company they are reportedly told to hand over their social media passwords to WWE’s Digital Media department. The reasoning is that WWE will need their accounts to push storylines and various promotional campaigns.

Ryback recently confirmed that this is in fact the case. When asked if the report was correct Ryback responded by saying “Yes, this is correct. I chose not sign it after they corralled all talent into a room and told everyone to sign in and turn it in. They attempted to try and corner me several times that day. It’s not to post storylines, that’s a cover and they can monitor the talent.”

Legal Letter

The former WWE Superstar recently tweeted a copy of the legal letter he received from WWE back in 2016. “This is just one document from WWE where they tried to threaten me to hand over all my Social Media accounts that I created,” Ryback wrote. “I have spoke the truth 100 percent on everything and have no reason to lie. Why would a multi billion dollar company need my social media you ask?”

Ryback elaborated further, saying that “on said document WWE demanded for all social media to be handed over. No mention of just switching the handle names. They wanted possession so I would lose all power and expose them on multiple issues in time. Just to make this clear. … This isn’t now, this is from 2016. You have to understand how they act towards talent. I own everything and it’s over. You guys need to see that talent have no control and the environment they create with fear. Some people are missing the entire point of this.”

Ronda Rousey Talks WrestleMania Main Event, If It Was Her Biggest Career Moment

Former WWE RAW Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey recently spoke to the UFC’s Megan Olivi on a variety of topics. One of the most interesting areas of discussion saw Ronda talk about her WrestleMania main event and if it was the ‘biggest moment of her career.’

“Yeah, [WrestleMania 35] felt big,” Rousey stated. “I think it just has to do with the time and the perspective. Me and Liz Carmouche felt bigger to me. Even though it was years ago and not as many people watched, it was at the Honda Center which holds maybe 16k-20k compared to WrestleMania where it was in front of maybe 80k people and millions watching. I just felt me and Carmouche was the most pivotal moment had to happen that way or women’s MMA would have ended before it started.”

Rousey elaborated further, saying that “with WrestleMania it just felt like all the stars were aligned and the whole universe was conspiring for us to succeed and there was not a single doubt in my mind that we would. For Carmouche, there were so many outside factors: the numbers had to do well, I had to win the match, but I had to win the match in an exciting way, and there were so many other factors I had to worry about.”

Austin Aries Heading To MLW

MLW has announced that Austin Aries will be heading to the promotion. The former WWE Cruiserweight and TNA/IMPACT World Champion was hyped on the most recent episode of Fusion. The exact date for Aries’ joining the company has not yet been revealed. Aries has appeared for the promotion previously, having faced ACH in February 2018.

Aries left IMPACT shortly after losing their World Title to Johnny Impact. This loss took place at their Bound For Glory event last October. The ‘Greatest Man That Ever Lived’ got straight up following the loss seemingly breaking any illusion of injury and flipped off several members of the IMPACT production crew and crowd.

MLW also recently announced that Ross & Marshall Von Erich have signed with the promotion and will be debuting at their television tapings in Waukesha, Wisconsin on Saturday June 1st. Independent performer Adam Brooks will also be debuting on that event. Brooks has appeared all over the world, including for PROGRESS and PWG.

Kenny Dykstra Discusses His Reaction to Vince McMahon’s ‘Spirit Squad’ Idea

Former WWE Superstar and leader of the Spirit Squad Kenny Dykstra recently spoke to WrestlingINC on his WWE run. The former ‘captain’ of the team had some interesting comments regarding his reaction when he was pitched the gimmick.

“It was really cool, it was different,” Dykstra stated. “Vince brought us into his office and said, ‘I want five male cheerleaders’ and I thought it was a joke at first because growing up I’ve always been an athlete. I was touring with them before the Spirit Squad as Ken Doane, just doing my own thing, and I thought, ‘There’s no way that’s what they want me to do.’ But lo and behold, that’s what they want, so you just do what they want and make it work. It’s different, over-the-top, it’s not going to be duplicated because we’re going to know where you got it.”

Dykstra elaborated further, discussing his recent run in WWE alongside Dolph Ziggler and another Spirit Squad member, Mikey. “I don’t know, I don’t really make the decisions, I just know that they stopped calling, “Dykstra recalled. “The first time, I don’t know, I’m sure there are a lot of stories out there to what could or would have happened. The second time they called out us out of nowhere and then after nine weeks they stopped calling.”

Hulk Hogan Talks IWGP Heavyweight Title Run

WWE legend and Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan is often referred to as a 12 time World Champion. Hogan won 6 World Titles during his run in the WWF/WWE and 6 Titles during his time in World Championship Wrestling/WCW.

Hogan took to Twitter today to mention that he is in fact a 13 time World Champion. The Hulkster wrote that “people always say I was 12 times champion but why does everyone forget that I was the first IWGP Heavyweight Champ, brother?! Make it 13 times Champ brother HH.”

For fans of modern day New Japan Pro Wrestling this may come as a surprise. However unlike some of Hogan’s ‘facts’ this is, in fact, true. However the original IWGP Heavyweight Championship was very different to the title held today by Kazuchika Okada. Hogan won the IWGP League back in 1983 defeating Antonio Inoki in the final and becoming the first Champion. The belt was however only defended once a year, as Hulk lost to Inoki at the next year’s tournament. When the tournament was changed in 1987 the original title was retired and the modern IWGP belt was created.

The reigning IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada will be defending his Championship against Chris Jericho on June 9th at Dominion in Osaka, Japan

Rev Pro Announces Show In Manchester feat. Los Ingobernables

Revolution Pro Wrestling (Rev Pro) has announced a show in Manchester, England for later this year. The company will be hitting the Victoria Warehouse on June 29th.

Little has been released about the show except that Los Ingobernables will be involved in some capacity. This could hopefully include Tetsuya Naito, SANADA, EVIL, BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi and Shingo Takagi from the Los Ingobernables faction.

Rev Pro recently held a big event during WrestleMania weekend. Several of New Japan’s stars such as Will Ospreay and Hiroshi Tanahashi appeared at the event. Former WWE Superstar and current Dragon Gate performer PAC was due to appear at the show but had to miss it due to visa issues.

PROGRESS Wrestling will be heading to Alexandra Palace on May 4th/5th/6th for their Super Strong Style 16 tournament. As is traditional the second night of the weekender will see some top non-tournament bouts taking place, including Championship bouts.

Three matches have been confirmed for Night 2 thus far. They are as follows:

The Title Unification match was teased as part of a recent Chapter event but is now officially confirmed. Trent Seven won his ATLAS Championship as part of last year’s Wembley Arena show. Seven defeated Doug Williams to retire the UK legend and become the new Champion. WALTER also won his PROGRESS World Championship last year against Travis Banks.

NJPW Wrestling HI NO KUNI 2019 Takes Place on Monday 29th

NJPW will be presenting their HI NO KUNI event this Monday from the Grand Messe Kumamoto in Japan. Several matches have been confirmed for the show including a showdown in the main event between Jay White and Hirooki Goto. This will be the first time that the two men have ever met in singles competition according to New Japan. White attacked Goto with a Bladerunner to pin him in their six man tag match at Nagaoka on March 24th. Goto did not take the loss lightly, remarking afterward that ‘this isn’t the end. This is just the beginning with him’. .

The IWGP Tag Team Championships will also be at stake. Toru Yano and Togi Makabe will be challenging the Guerillas of Destruction: Tama Tonga and Tanga Loa. The Bullet Club team captured the ROH Tag Team Championships at the G1 Supercard event back on WrestleMania weekend in Madison Square Garden. Yano attempted to sneak his way to ringside and steal the IWGP belts before they were returned to the champions, thus the booking of this bout.

It’s CHAOS versus LIJ in ten man tag action in the sixth match of the evening. Kazuchika Okada, SHO, YOH, Tomohiro Ishii and Rocky Romero will face Tetsuya Naito, EVIL, SANADA, Shingo Takagi and BUSHI.

‘Dream’ Tag Team Match Announced for OTT ‘Live In Belfast’

Over The Top Wrestling (OTT) has announced a ‘dream’ tag team bout for their upcoming Live in Belfast show. Trent Seven and Tyler Bate are the OTT Tag Team Champions and they will be facing the Besties In The World.

Seven and Bate are of course two of the biggest stars on the NXT UK brand. OTT are regarded as an ‘affiliate’ promotion to WWE and therefore their Superstars can appear on the brand. Other promotions that fall under this banner include ICW, Fight Club: Pro and PROGRESS. Interestingly the three men behind PROGRESS wrestling are reportedly running NXT UK. Jim Smallman, co-owner of PROGRESS has joined the NXT crew in the United States for a number of years presumably to ‘learn the ropes’ so that he, Glen Joseph and Jon Briley could hold the fort at NXT UK.

Besties In The World consist of Davey Vega and Mat Fitchett. The team have performed for the likes of Rev Pro and Fight Club: Pro in the UK, the team are FCP Tag Team Champions. The team also appeared for IMPACT and Ring of Honor back in 2018.

WrestleMania WWE Title Match Contract Signing Announced for Smackdown

WWE has announced that there will be a contract signing this Tuesday. The Daniel Bryan vs Kofi Kingston match for WrestleMania will be made ‘official’ on Smackdown Live. The WWE Championship match for WrestleMania has been locked in for quite some time backstage, but on television Kingston has been made to work for it.

Kofi was added to the Elimination Chamber match earlier this year when Mustafa Ali was unable to compete in the structure. Fans rallied behind Kofi who appeared to once again be in his “good hand” role for the evening. Kingston had stolen the show in a gauntlet match on the Tuesday night prior. The winner of that bout would be entered into the Chamber last, Kofi was eliminated by AJ Styles after an incredible showing. Randy Orton went on to win the bout and enter the Chamber last, but fans were right behind Kingston.

This spot had originally been slated for the aforementioned Ali, who if reports are to be believed would’ve faced Daniel Bryan at Fastlane. Kevin Owens would then have gotten the Championship bout at WrestleMania. Owens ended up facing Bryan at Fastlane, giving Kofi the opportunity to challenge for the belt at WrestleMania.

What is intriguing is that Kofi is one of the only performers who could’ve had this run. Ali, whilst an impressive performer does not have the tenure that Kingston has, not even close. Kingston is also in that class of ‘never used to their potential’ in WWE and he has seen many Superstars come and go. Kofi is the ‘Royal Rumble spot guy’ and nothing more…until the fans got right behind him.

Kenny Omega Returns to Action, Gets Pinned (Video)

Kenny Omega returned to the ring Saturday night from Winnipeg, Canada for Premier Championship Wrestling.

This was Kenny’s first in-ring contest since January 4th, when he lost the IWGP Heavyweight Championship to Hiroshi Tanahashi at Wrestle Kingdom 13. He left New Japan to accept a contract with the new All Elite Wrestling (AEW) promotion, headed by Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks.

Omega appeared in a 6-man tag match against a team headed by longtime friend Don Callis. The two have been building a rivalry in PCW, with Callis turning on Omega back in October of 2018.

This was Don Callis’ first match in 15 years. The former ECW personality shockingly defeated Omega with a Codebreaker. The fact that he won the bout with Chris Jericho’s finishing manoeuvre was of course quite apt.

Kenny Omega faces Chris Jericho at All Elite Wrestling’s Double or Nothing PPV event on May 25 in Las Vegas.

Check out some highlights from the match below:

UK Wrestling Pays Tribute To Kris Travis On 3rd Anniversary of His Passing

During his time in the UK independent wrestling scene Kris Travis was extremely well liked and respected by both fans and peers alike. He unfortunately passed away from stomach cancer on March 31st 2016, he was 32 years old.

UK Wrestling has mourned the loss of one of its brightest stars over the past three years. Preston City Wrestling (PCW) was one of Kris’ favourite promotions to work for and since his passing a number of tributes and events have been organised by the company to honour his memory, both in and out of the ring, including the Kris Travis Memorial Tournament. The inaugural tournament took place back in 2017.

ATTACK! Pro Wrestling have also held events in Travis’ name. The initial ‘Kris Travis Tag Team Invitational’ tournament featured some of the best tag competitors in the UK such as #CCK (Chris Brookes & Mondai Lykos), F.S.U (Mark Andrews & Eddie Dennis) & eventual winners Project Lucha (El Ligero & Martin Kirby). This also took place back in 2017.

These were the Cruiserweight Title bout and both the Men’s and Women’s Battle Royals. There is a good chance that the Andre The Giant Memorial Battle Royal is featured on the pre-show once again.

Those stars include Colin Jost and Michael Che, Braun Strowman, Andrade, Apollo Crews, Titus O’Neil, Tyler Breeze, Jinder Mahal, No Way Jose, Bobby Roode, Chad Gable, Kalisto, Gran Metalik, Lince Dorado, Bo Dallas, Curtis Axel, Heath Slater, Rhyno, Viktor, Konnor, Ali, Shelton Benjamin, Luke Gallows, Karl Anderson, Matt Hardy, Jeff Hardy, Otis, Tucker, EC3. There are now 28 Superstars confirmed for the match.
