It has been revealed that NJPW star Kota Ibushi worked matches this past weekend with a 102 degrees Fahrenheit fever.
The ‘Golden Star’ took part in Riki Choshu Produce Power Hall 2018 – Set Back The Clock at Korakuen Hall teaming alongside Gota Ihashi & Riki Choshu to defeat Daisuke Sekimoto, TAKA Michinoku & Tatsumi Fujinami in the main event of the show filmed for Samurai TV in Japan.
Japanese wrestling correspondant Chris Charlton confirmed that Ibushi was suffering with the fever and revealed that Ibushi took the win for his team after hitting the Sit Out Last Ride.
Well, Ibushi did it, golden triangle and sit out last ride and all. Pat on the back (and washed hands afterward) https://t.co/HJbuqJpfhW
Ibushi going ahead with the Choshu show, despite a 38.9 fever. (He's probably got the flu, so if you're in Korakuen today, I dunno, wear a mask or something) https://t.co/HnXM7eaBiT
PROGRESS hosted their 61st Chapter event this past Sunday from the O2 Academy in Birmingham, England. The event was the first Chapter show of 2018 and and as always sold out months in advance, here are the full results:
PROGRESS Tag Team Championship Match – The Grizzled Young Veterans (Zack Gibson & James Drake) b. Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate)
Former IMPACT Wrestling star Rockstar Spud posted a rather telling image of himself and EC3 on Twitter with the words “there is an entire universe to conquer.”
The UK born performer had a lengthy run in IMPACT alongside Ethan Carter 3rd, their main event heel personas dominated IMPACT’s programming and provided some of the most entertaining segments available inside the (then) 6 sided ring.
It has been long rumored that Rockstar Spud will be signing for WWE to help boost the flagging 205 Live programme. EC3 himself lost a ‘Feast or Fired’ match during this week’s IMPACT tapings and he is heavily linked with a return to WWE, possibly even as early as the Royal Rumble.
Former IMPACT/TNA World Heavyweight Champion James Storm will be making his way to Scotland this February to be part of ICW’s Square Go event.
The ‘Cowboy’ will be facing homegrown ICW talent Jack Jester in a Number 1 contenders match to BT Gunn’s ICW World Championship.
Tickets for the event are available to purchase now via Ticketmaster. The show will be available to watch via ICW’s On Demand service, which is available for $6.99 per month.
Two of the UK’s most unique companies will be putting on a joint show this February. All women’s promotion Pro Wrestling: EVE and XWA UK’s Wrestle Friends! will be teaming up for an evening of cross branded matches from the Resistance Gallery in London, England.
The ‘Equal Fights’ event will feature 1 solely EVE match, 1 solely XWAUK match and the rest of the night will see intergender bouts between the two companies.
Tickets for the event are available to purchase this coming Thursday (11th).
The 5-star bout between Chris Jericho and Kenny Omega at January 4th’s Wrestle Kingdom show was monumental for a number of reasons. Y2J’s unexpected return to Japan and his performance shocked many in the industry and showed that his claims to being the ‘Alpha’ of professional wrestling aren’t wildly off the mark.
It appears that Jericho will now be in NJPW for a stretch, his attack on Tetsuya Naito at the New Year Dash show will eventually lead to a bout between the two…but who else in the New Japan ranks would we like to see the ‘Ayatollah of Rock n Rolla’ face?
Here are three feuds we’d like to see for “The Alpha” Chris Jericho in New Japan:
Hiroshi Tanahashi
An icon of the Japanese wrestling scene, Hiroshi Tanahashi would be an ideal opponent for the reinvigorated Jericho. The two men have grown to define the styles that they represent, Tanahashi has sat atop the NJPW Heavyweight division and was a vital ingredient in the eventual rise of Kazuchika Okada, their feud defined the spirit of New Japan and brought a lot of expectant eyes to the product.
Jericho himself has graced the main event of Wrestlemania cards and is to many the definition of what an American pro wrestler should aspire to, a bout between these two stalwarts would be very different to that of the Alpha/Omega match and would be an excellent opportunity to see how the two could work at this stage in their respective careers.
Kota Ibushi
Kota Ibushi is an enigma. Longtime fans of New Japan would agree that right now he should be in the main event scene and should be arguably one of the biggest stars on the planet…the issue is Kota simply refuses to stay in one place for any length of time, he also seems to like setting himself on fire.
That being said a bout between the ‘Golden Star’ and Y2J has blockbuster written all over it. The dynamically wild style of Ibushi clearly works with a more traditional ‘American heel’ persona, he proved this against Cody at Wrestle Kingdom, but imagine what he could achieve being paired off with one of the greatest (and despicable!) minds in the game?
2018 could end up being the year that Ibushi finally hits the heights that he is capable of and a feud with Jericho just before an opportunity to face longtime rival Kenny Omega at next year’s Wrestle Kingdom could be the ideal way to get him there.
Zack Sabre Jr
Many people would’ve put Kazuchika Okada on their list…but realistically Jericho probably won’t be going near the IWGP Championship during his run. That leads to our next pick in Zack Sabre Jr.
Sabre Jr is one of the most underrated stars from the recent explosion of popularity in the UK scene, fellow stars Pete Dunne, Tyler Bate and Will Ospreay are far more widely recognised even though ZSJ has performed in EVOLVE, New Japan and the WWE Cruiserweight Classic.
From a stylistic standpoint Jericho should mesh extremely well with the unique Sabre, this bout could be worked almost exclusively on the mat and Y2J’s penchant for embarrassing his opponents at their own game would hopefully lead to a submission-fest akin to some of Y2J’s early WWE and WCW work.
Discussion: Who would you like to see Jericho face in New Japan? Let us know in the comments.
One of IMPACT Wrestling’s biggest stars, EC3, appears to have finished his time with the company, the recent television tapings featured the now infamous ‘feast or fired’ briefcase match and EC3 found himself with the unfortunate fate of grabbing the ‘fired’ case.
Here are the results for the ‘Feast or Fired’ match:
Moose – Took the World Title Opportunity
Petey Williams – Took the X Division Title Opportunity
Eli Drake – Took the Tag Title Opportunity
EC3 – Fired
It was recently revealed that both Ethan Carter and Bobby Lashley were likely to leave the company imminently and that a return for both to WWE was extremely likely, now that EC3 is off IMPACT he could potentially appear at the Royal Rumble in just a few weeks.
PWG’s Mystery Vortex V event took place this past Friday from the American Legion Post #308 in Reseda, California.
Here are the results from the event:
David Starr b. Fred Yehi in 18:42
Joey Janela b. Morgan Webster in 13:54
Sammy Guevara b. Rey Fenix in 13:50
Keith Lee b. Zack Sabre Jr. in 19:09
Trent b. Marty Scurll in 20:10
PWG World Tag Team Title Match – The Chosen Bros (Jeff Cobb & Matthew Riddle) (c) b. Ringkampf (Timothy Thatcher & WALTER) in 18:29
PWG World Title Guerrilla Warfare Match – Chuck Taylor b. Ricochet (c) in 23:56 after the match Ricochet said farewell to the fans following the news of his impending move to WWE
‘The Cleaner’ Kenny Omega has reportedly extended his contract with New Japan Pro Wrestling. The Wrestling Observer have revealed that his one year extension will keep him with the company until at least January 31st 2019, this of course rules him out of any potential Royal Rumble appearance this year or next as well as a potential spot at Wrestlemania in New Orleans.
There had been some rumblings of Chris Jericho’s involvement in New Japan being a plot by WWE to ‘swoop in’ and raid the company, while these were fairly out there rumors they had begun to gain some traction…hopefully this confirmation of Kenny’s contract extension will quell any doubt that he is in Japan for the foreseeable future.
AXS TV will be broadcasting the majority of New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 event over the coming weeks. AXS TV head Mark Cuban has been vocal with regards to pushing NJPW this year even further in the United States to coincide with New Japan’s own US expansion plans.
The schedule for the upcoming weeks of AXS television has now been revealed and is as follows:

This Friday sees DEFIANT Wrestling Champion and former WWE Cruiserweight Superstar Austin Aries defend his belt against PROGRESS World Champion and international standout Travis Banks. This bout is part of the ongoing IPW:UK invasion of the DEFIANT roster, an invasion led by Aries and Mark Haskins.
You can catch the World Title match on DEFIANT’s official YouTube channel this Friday from 8pm GMT, that’s 3pm Eastern and 12pm Pacific. The #WeAreDefiant show is available to view for free EVERY Friday so it is well worth checking out, you can find last week’s episode below:
PROGRESS has announced the final two bouts for their upcoming Chapter 61 event this Sunday from the O2 Academy in Birmingham, England.
World Champion Travis Banks will be taking on his #CCK stablemate Chris Brookes, the ‘Calamari Catch Killer’ Brookes has been on a tear through the PROGRESS singles ranks since the injury to his longtime tag partner Kid Lykos and now company management have decided to grant him an opportunity to steal the show alongside Travis…this could be a barnburner.
As well as having the WWE UK Championship on the line at Chapter 61 when Pete Dunne faces Joseph Conners PROGRESS will be giving WWE UK Superstar Mark Andrews another opportunity to prove his World Championship credentials when he faces the impressive Chris Ridgeway.
New Japan Pro Wrestling’s annual Fantasicamania ‘festival’ will be taking place 1/19, 1/21 and 1/22 from the legendary Korakuen Hall in Japan, all three shows will be streaming live on NJPWWorld.com and feature stars from Mexico’s CMLL promotion.
NJPW’s English Language site NJPW1972.com has started the promotional drive for the upcoming CMLL collaboration shows and has revealed the main bouts of the three nights:
Night 1: CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship Match – Niebia Roja vs Gran Guerrero
“The main event on January 19 will see a battle for the CMLL World Light Heavyweight Championship as Gran Guerrero challenges the champion Niebla Roja. Roja is a former rudo partner of Guerrero’s, but when he decided to change his ways in September of 2017, a massive feud started. Roja would have his mask torn off by his former stablemates in Los Guerreros Laguneros, but fans would fall in love with Roja’s newly discovered good looks and tecnico attitude. Now this title match showdown becomes a must see main event to kick off the lucha festival on NJPW World.
Night 1: National Welterweight Championship Match – Soberano Junior vs Sanson
“The Light Heavyweight Championship match will be one of three title bouts on the 19th. In the fifth match of the evening, the National Welterweight Championship will be on the line as champion Soberano Junior faces the ‘infinite power’ of Sanson. Soberano made his big Japanese break at last year’s Fantasticamania and won praise for his dynamic style and thrilling aerial offense. Meanwhile, Sanson’s 187cm stature and surprising popularity for a rudo will make this an intriguing contest.
Night 1: CMLL Middleweight Championship Match – Angel Del Oro vs Cuatrero
“The CMLL Middleweight Championship will also be on the line January 19. Champion Angel Del Oro will take the challenge of Cuatrero. This will be Cuatrero’s Japanese debut; much like Sanson, Cuatrero is a tall rudo at 185 cm, and combines power with some impressive high flying. You won’t want to miss this one.”

UK promotion Fight Club: Pro will be holding their annual Dream Tag Team Invitational event in March/April from Wolverhampton, Manchester and an as yet unnamed city in the United Kingdom.
Already announced for the illustrious events is the team of Matt Riddle and Jeff Cobb (the ‘Chosen Bros’) and now Fight Club has unveiled the next two teams to be making their way across the pond from the United States to participate.
PWG’s Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta, also known as ‘Best Friends’ and Lucha Underground’s Rey Fenix and Penta El Zero M will be joining the ranks alongside some of the UK and Europe’s best in just a few short months.
PROGRESS will be making their return to the United States on April 7th/8th and will be hosting shows in New Orleans to coincide with Wrestlemania weekend. This will be the second time that the UK company has ventured over to the states following last year’s extremely successful Wrestlemania weekend shows.
The company has officially announced the first two names for their NOLA weekend, they are IWGP Junior Heavyweight and former PROGRESS World Champion Will Ospreay and current reigning ATLAS Heavyweight and wXw star WALTER.
Tickets for the two shows from the Pontchartrain Center can be purchased via Ticketfly now.
Former WWE/WCW/Lucha Underground Superstar Rey Mysterio will once again be making his way to the United Kingdom. The Luchador legend will be making an appearance for 5 Star Wrestling against one of the UK’s biggest rising stars, Zack Gibson.
The match will be headlining the company’s February 1st show in Liverpool’s Echo Arena, it will also be available to view in the UK on the FreeSports Freeview channel. For UK readers the channel info is as follows:
Freeview: Channel 95
Sky: Channel 424
Freesat: 252
TalkTalk TV: Channel 95
BT TV: Channel 95
You may remember the 5 Star Wrestling name, the company offered CM Punk $1 Million dollars to appear as part of their 128 man tournament that was subsequently cancelled.
Revolution Pro’s ‘High Stakes 2018’ event is once again shaping up to be one of the biggest events on the UK calendar. The company has now revealed that IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay will be making his return to the company to face ‘White Lightning’ Mark Andrews on January 20th at London’s York Hall.
Both men are considered veterans of the UK scene, both are former PROGRESS World Champions and both have seen success on a much broader, worldwide scale; Andrews won TNA’s Boot Camp show and appeared sporadically for the company before joining the WWE UK Division and of course Ospreay has been tearing it up on New Japan’s Juniors circuit.
This could easily be one of the best matches on UK shores in 2018, keep an eye out for Rev Pro’s On Demand like days after the January 20th event.
High Stakes 2018. Saturday January 20th, York Hall, Bethnal Green.
Welcome back Mandrews. The welcoming committee is waiting.
Pete Dunne will be defending his WWE United Kingdom Championship on Sunday January 14th against fellow WWE UK superstar Joseph Conners.
The pair will face off as part of PROGRESS Wrestling’s 61st Chapter event ‘Don’t Touch Me…Don’t…Don’t Touch Me’ inside Birmingham’s O2 Academy. The match was originally scheduled to take place at Chapter 59 but was postponed due to the severe winter weather conditions, forcing Dunne to remain in Dublin, Ireland where he performed for OTT Wrestling the night before.
This highly anticipated bout could well be one of the last that the ‘Bruiserweight’ has in a PROGRESS ring, his incredible rise to stardom through the WWE UK division will likely see him make an appearance in this year’s Royal Rumble event and quite possibly see him perform at Wrestlemania in April.
Insane Championship Wrestling’s (ICW) Fight Club show will be making it’s return on January 21st when they host ‘It’s Always Raining in Glasgow.’ The company always over delivers when it comes to their event posters and fans of ‘It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia’ will likely agree that they’ve pulled it off again (check out the tweet below).
Emanating from the company’s spiritual home of the Garage in Glasgow, Scotland the event will feature some massive bouts heading into the ‘Square Go’ pay per view event the next night.
The matches currently announced are:

Jimmy Havoc, Mark Haskins, Cara Noir, Kip Sabian, Chief Deputy Dunne and Chris Ridgeway have also been announced for this must see event from Milton Keynes’ Unit 9 and tickets can be found here.
WrestleMania season is arguably the best time in all of wrestling and the first quarter of 2018 will be no different. Earlier this week fans around the world witnessed New Japan Pro Wrestling’s Wrestle Kingdom 12 event, including Chris Jericho’s highly anticipated return to the promotion. Up next: WWE’s Royal Rumble on January 28th.
The Royal Rumble has more than earned its place as one of WWE’s premiere annual pay-per-view events. The Rumble has produced countless memorable moments since it’s inception back in 1988. Today, we’re looking at 3 of the most memorable WWE Superstar debuts that took place in the Rumble match.
Rusev
The ‘Bulgarian Brute’ made his main roster debut for WWE during the 2014 Rumble, making his appearance as the 6th entrant in the match. Whilst still using the first name Alexander (before WWE began dropping the first names of several Superstars), the former NXT standout was made to look like an absolute powerhouse alongside WWE’s more established acts such as Cody Rhodes, Kofi Kingston, CM Punk and Seth Rollins.
Rusev also played an integral part in one of the match’s best moments, the annual “Kofi Kingston spot,” when he caught Kofi as he was falling to the outside and rested him on the black mat guardrail, allowing the New Day member to leap back to the safety of the ring.
Rusev’s current run alongside Aiden English is arguably some of the best work of his WWE career and his ‘Rusev Day’ campaign has really taken off. With some momentum behind him, it will be interesting to see how Rusev performs later this month in the match that got him started on the main roster.
Vader
Vader is considered to be one of the greatest big man ever to compete in pro wrestling ring and for good reason. The 3-time WCW World Champion made his WWE debut during the 1996 Rumble match entering as the 13th participant. The ‘Mastodon’ eliminated Jake Roberts, Doug Gilbert and Savio Vega before being sent over the top rope by eventual winner, Shawn Michaels.
The following night, Vader took part in a memorable angle on Monday night RAW when he viciously assaulted then-WWF President Gorilla Monsoon. It was the first time that an ‘authority figure’ was attacked on WWE television.
Vader actually made an appearance on New Japan Pro Wrestling’s January 4th show in 1996, then dubbed ‘Wrestling World,’ he fought (in a losing effort) against Japanese legend Antonio Inoki…fairly similar circumstances to our final name:
AJ Styles
The Phenomenal AJ Styles
Was there really another choice for the top spot? The ‘Phenomenal One’ made his WWE debut during the 2016 Rumble and has been tearing through the WWE ever since.
Making his entrance as the third participant in the match, Styles received a thunderous ovation from the live crowd after weeks of rumors that he was WWE bound. The excitement over Styles’ WWE debut was amplified by the fact that the only other man in the ring was the controversial “chosen one,” Roman Reigns. AJ Styles’ entrance into the 2016 Royal Rumble was an iconic moment that will be remembered for years to come.
The former IWGP, TNA and Rev Pro Champion is now a staple of WWE programming, but a possible Rumble debut from AJ Styles seemed almost too good to be true after he competed at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom 10 event just weeks prior. Styles battled Shinsuke Nakamura for the IWGP Intercontinental Championship on that show, a match that many are hoping is replicated in a matter of months at Wrestlemania 34.
New Japan Pro Wrestling’s January 4th show was arguably one of the most commercially successful in company history. More fans than ever where watching on NJPWWorld.com and the Tokyo Dome exceeded last year’s attendance by over 8,000.
NJPW announced several of their upcoming 2018 events during the Wrestle Kingdom stream and now their English Language site NJPW1972.com has unveiled the full details surrounding their 2018 programme:
“The big event for our American fans will be Strong Style Evolved, coming from the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach March 25th. The event was announced back in November, and we’re getting ready to reveal some big news about the show, so stay tuned to njpw1972.com.
It’ll be a busy April, as Sakura Genesis starts the month in Ryogoku on April 1. Then, on April 29, New Japan returns after a two year absence to Kumamoto for Hi no Kuni 2018.
On May 3 and 4, we’ll be in Fukuoka for two nights at the Fukuoka International Center and Wrestling Dontaku. Then, May 18 sees Best of the Super Juniors kick off, before the critical mid way point of the year; June 9 and Dominion in Osaka Jo Hall.
Then, it’s the biggest tournament in wrestling. In a first, G1 Climax 28 will kick off with two days on July 14 and 15 in the historic Ota Gymnasium, before heading to Hokkaido July 16, and then all over Japan.
Yet it’s where that tournament will end that’s most exciting. For the first time in G1 history, and with the first New Japan presence for over 15 years, the G1 will reach its Climax in the iconic Budokan Hall!”
A stacked lineup of shows announced for NJPW in 2018, including a return to the legendary Budokan Hall!https://t.co/xkp0CVJlbF
