  • SAnitY To Debut On SmackDown Live Tonight

SAnitY To Debut On SmackDown Live Tonight

For the past several weeks WWE has been teasing the SmackDown Live debut of former NXT Tag Team Champions SAnitY. Now, the promotion has officially announced that the faction will be making their official main roster debut on tonight’s (Tues. June 19, 2018) episode of SmackDown Live.

They’ll face some steep competition in former three-time SmackDown Live Tag Team Champions The Usos:

“For weeks, the impending arrival of SAnitY has been hanging over SmackDown LIVE. No one knew what the chaotic crew of Eric Young, Alexander Wolfe and the monstrous Killian Dain had in store for Team Blue after joining during the Superstar Shake-up, but the wait is over, as they will be making their debut tonight.

“SAnitY isn’t wasting any time, either, as they’ll be taking on The Usos in their first match on SmackDown LIVE. Will The Usos put the newcomers in their place, or will chaos reign in SAnitY’s arrival? “

  • Sid Vicious On Hulk Hogan ‘Acting Like A Woman’ At 1992 Royal Rumble

Sid Vicious On Hulk Hogan ‘Acting Like A Woman’ At 1992 Royal Rumble

As we’ve noted before, former WWE Champion Sid Vicious was a guest on Prime Time with Sean Mooney to talk about several professional wrestling topics. One such topic was his relationship with Hall Of Famer Hulk Hogan during his 1991-1992 run with WWE.

Face-to-face Vicious had no issue with Hogan during their interactions together, and has no recollection of Hogan talking about him behind his back:

“Face-to-face he was always great to me,” Sid said. “I don’t know if he said or did things behind my back, I don’t know that. From the very first day to the last time I saw him, the guy was really good to me.”

As far as Hogan’s 1991 run he wasn’t getting the type of pops that he used to. Vicious believes this was due to an in-ring style that fans were getting sick of at that point his his career:

“In that year of the business, Hogan was already on the downhill skid, he wasn’t getting cheered,” Sid responded. “You know that ‘Three Stooges’ comeback [‘Hulking Up’] wasn’t working anymore. You know the ‘Three Stooges’ comeback, right? He copied that from Curly of the ‘Three Stooges.’ He presented it to me like that, I wanted to have a heel match and he said, ‘No, brother, this is going to be easy.

“You just beat me up a little bit and all of a sudden I’ll get the shakes, slap my face a couple times – like Curly does – you go throw a punch, I’ll block it, we’ll do that a couple times.’ That’s how easy it was. It didn’t make for great matches, but it worked for him. So when you’re doing that kind of match for that long of a time, people are going to s— on that.”

Vicious then stated that his run with the company didn’t go well for several reasons, but a big one was wrestlers like Hogan and Ultimate Warrior behaving poorly. Sid got so furious about Hogan ranting and raving about the 1992 Royal Rumble that he told Vince McMahon he was leaving the company:

“In that company I was in the wrong place, at the wrong time. I left a big guarantee contract to come into this place,” Sid said. “I was going to do TV and PPVs for one year and after WrestleMania I was going to be the World Champion. Well, [Vince] had to fire [The Ultimate Warrior] and all that s— changed. From the very beginning things didn’t go right. We were in Albany for the [1992] Royal Rumble, Hogan pulled me out from the outside and the fans started booing him.

“We get back to the dressing room and Hogan is screaming and acting like a woman! And he’s screaming at Vince [McMahon], ‘He set this up! He made this happen’ I didn’t even know Vince was that bad of a person at the time that did things like, that was all hearsay. I went to Vince’s office, stuck my hand hand out and said, ‘I wanna thank you for the opportunity, but I’m gone. I cannot work in a place where grown men act like women.’

“He said, ‘No, no, no, I’m not shaking your hand.’ I said, ‘Well, that’s not going to do you any good, I’m leaving.’ He said, ‘Well, will you stay until WrestleMania?’ and I said ‘okay,’ and that’s what I did and finished up a couple days after WrestleMania.”

  • Jake Hager Explains Why “We The People” Gimmick Was Cut Short

Jake Hager Explains Why “We The People” Gimmick Was Cut Short

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Jack Swagger recently did an interview with Wrestling Inc. to talk about several professional wrestling topics. One such topic was the controversial “We The People” gimmick he sported alongside his former manager Zeb Colter in WWE.

2013’s Real Americans rhetoric was very anti-immigration and garnered a solid mixture of support and hate while trying to portray a heel persona. After attracting some negative feedback from mainstream news outlets, the gimmick was toned down a bit.

Swagger explained why the gimmick was so short-lived and how it tackled real-life political and controversial issues:

“It was definitely cut short but it’s one of things where it is not my company. I think ‘We the People’ is an example of why pro wrestling is so cool because it was a storyline that started out very political and very controversial and very nasty,” Hager said.

“It really evolved into a movement of the people, not just American people, but people everywhere. Our fans around the world still say it and they have taken it to make it their own. It is more of that universe than it is mine.

“I am just happy to be part of it. It’s just cool because you can do something in pro wrestling and have it evolve and just watch it transgress it’s pretty cool.”

  • What Was Originally Scheduled To Close MITB, More On James Ellsworth’s Return

What Was Originally Scheduled To Close MITB, More On James Ellsworth’s Return

What Was Originally Slated To Close Out MITB

Last night’s WWE Money In The Bank (MITB) pay-per-view (PPV) was closed out by the Men’s MITB Ladder match. That bout was eventually won by Braun Strowman.

PWInsider is reporting that the RAW Women’s Championship match between Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey was originally scheduled to close out the show. This includes the subsequent MITB cash in by Alexa Bliss to win the title and walk out of Chicago RAW Women’s Champion.

Of course, eventually the decision was made to have the Men’s MITB Ladder match close the event instead – which reportedly didn’t sit well with some of the female performers backstage.

More On James Ellsworth’s WWE Return

As for the return of James Ellsworth, which occurred during the SmackDown Live Women’s Title match between Carmella and Asuka, it seems that has been discussed as far back as the Greatest Royal Rumble. There were reportedly talks of having him re-appear as early as during the Greatest Royal Rumble match.

  • Chris Jericho Recalls ‘Roughing Up’ Michael Cole

Chris Jericho Recalls ‘Roughing Up’ Michael Cole

Current IWGP Intercontinental Champion Chris Jericho recently took to his podcast, Talk Is Jericho, and shared a rather interesting story about ‘roughing up’ WWE commentator Michael Cole.

Apparently Cole was instructed by Vince McMahon to call one of Jericho’s segments on RAW, a Highlight Reel segment with Jericho, Brad Maddox, Wade Barrett and The Miz, “the worst segment in RAW history.”

Jericho wasn’t too happy with this and took it out on Cole the following night on SmackDown during one of his matches:

“I was so freaking hot on this.” Jericho recalled, “it was a Highlight Reel that led to a match. And it was, what was that guy’s name, Brad Roberts or McGillicutty or whatever his name was? Brad something-or-other was the General Manager of RAW. Brad Maddox! And it was me, and [Barrett], and [The] Miz, and Brad Maddox in some kind of promo. And we had to show a clip of your movie, I believe it was the first one.

“Was that the one with Colin Farrell? Dead Man Down. And this promo just ran off the rails and I just remember it was really bad.” Jericho continued, “well, when I came to the back, I remember Vince was like, ‘oh, that promo was terrible.’ And I was like, ‘it was bad. It was poorly written and it was just s–t.’ But I found out afterward that Michael Cole, on instructions from Vince, called it ‘the worst segment in RAW history.’ I know [that statement was a stretch].

“The next night on SmackDown, I was wrestling a match and it was one of those, I was just, no pun intended, stewing, and I was just looking at Cole and I ran over. And I ripped the top of the [table] off and slammed the desk, ‘you f–king asshole!’ He was like, ‘what are you talking about?’ I said, ‘you motherf–ker!’ I roughed him up a bit. I lost my mind! And I go to the back, and, of course, everyone’s mad at me. And then, of course, Vince knows why.

“I go, ‘why would you say it’s the worst segment in RAW history?’ And he said, ‘well, it was pretty bad.’ I said, ‘Vince, of all the s–t you’ve had on this show and of all the stuff I’ve done for this show, you’re going to call it the worst segment in RAW history?’ And he goes, ‘well, maybe I overreacted.’ I go, ‘you’re damn right you overreacted!’ I was so mad! I didn’t tell anybody. It wasn’t one of my proudest moments.”

AJ Styles Reacts To Landing WWE 2K19 Video Game Cover

As we’ve previously reported, current WWE Champion AJ Styles has been announced as the cover athlete for WWE 2K19.

Styles gets the news just hours after successfully defending his WWE Championship against Shinsuke Nakamura in a Last Man Standing match at the Money In The Bank (MITB) pay-per-view (PPV) from Chicago’s Allstate Arena.

The game is set to get released on October 9, 2018 for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. A trailer for the game has yet to be released. Styles, a huge fan of video games, joins past cover athletes such as The Rock, John Cena, “Stone Cold” Steve Austin, Brock Lesnar and Seth Rollins last year.

Styles took to Twitter to react to the big news, calling it an absolute honor to be on the cover:

Colt Cabana Reveals How He’s Feeling After WWE Trial

Colt Cabana was cleared of all defamation charges brought upon him by WWE doctor Chris Amann after his podcast with CM Punk. Cabana recently took to his podcast, The Art Of Wrestling, and discussed how he has been feeling after the trial.

Cabana explained that as a result of how mentally taxing the trial was, he has found it difficult to wrestle, train and even interact with others:

“I can feel like a gravitational pull,” said Cabana. “And I’m trying to fight it, and I’m trying to smile at kids, and I’m trying to talk the grocer, or whoever it is, but I can feel, I can feel, I can feel it. And I’m fighting it. I really am. I felt it on the road this week, I know my podcast is about talking to people, a lot of me had zero desire to do any of that, [but] I still did it.

“A lot of me was thinking almost people were judging me, or the only thing to talk about on this podcast would be this trial. And then I’m like, we’re just gonna put on the recorder and talk about this trial? That really didn’t make sense to me.”

  • Backstage Reaction To Ronda Rousey vs. Nia Jax

Backstage Reaction To Ronda Rousey vs. Nia Jax

The RAW Women’s Title was on the line last night during WWE’s Money In The Bank (MITB) pay-per-view (PPV) when champion Nia Jax defended her title against former UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey.

It was Rousey’s first singles match on WWE TV. To many’s surprise, both Rousey and Jax performed quite impressively. The action was fairly entertaining and well executed, with the exception of Rousey accidentally falling outside of the ring through the ropes.

Of course, their success was short-lived as Women’s MITB briefcase holder Alexa Bliss cashed in after attacking both Rousey and Jax. She won the RAW Women’s Title after hitting Twister Bliss on Jax.

According to sources backstage at the event, both Rousey and Jax received standing ovations when coming back through the curtain after their match.

Both Jax and Rousey certainly put on the best performances of their respective careers. Jax did an exceptional job of guiding Rousey through her first singles match, and The Rowdy One certainly impressed for it being her first one-on-one opportunity inside the squared circle.

Discussion: How did you feel about Jax and Rousey’s match last night?

WWE Women Reportedly Upset With Placement On MITB Card

As opposed to the expectations of some, the Women’s Money In The Bank (MITB) Ladder match did not main event last night’s WWE pay-per-view (PPV) event. The men’s MITB Ladder match, eventually won by Braun Strowman, took those honors.

The Women’s Ladder match took place earlier in the card and was won by Alexa Bliss. Little Miss Bliss cashed in her briefcase later on that night in the middle of the RAW Women’s Championship match between Nia Jax and Ronda Rousey.

Bliss attacked Rousey before focusing her attention on Jax. She cashed in her contract and hit Twisted Bliss for the three count and the RAW Women’s Title win. Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that there were some women backstage who were ‘disgruntled or bummed’ about their placement on the card.

It seems that some women thought they were going to close out the PPV event with their Ladder match. Of course, that wouldn’t have made sense since Bliss needed cash in her contract later in the night to win the RAW Women’s Title.

Discussion: Do you think the women should’ve been featured in a way that would’ve closed out the PPV?

  • Bella Twins’ Brother JJ On If He Thinks Daniel Bryan Will Fight In The UFC

Bella Twins’ Brother JJ On If He Thinks Daniel Bryan Will Fight In The UFC

The Bella Twins’ brother, JJ, and his wife, Loren, recently joined the Total Bellas Aftershow to offer their thoughts on Nikki Bella and John Cena’s relationship, as well as whether or not they think Daniel Bryan would ever fight in the UFC. JJ first commented on the rumors going around that Cena and Nikki’s breakup was staged:

“Honestly, my sister asked us not to say anything. Even though we do put our lives out there in the public, my sister is a very private person. And she loves John and what they are going through they want it between them.

“Even with how public John is, John is super private. The one thing I can tell you for a fact is that it wasn’t for the ratings or for the show at all. It actually threw the show for a loop.”

JJ then offered his thoughts on if he thinks Cena is ready to be a father:

“I definitely think he is ready for kids. When I met Loren .. things changed. I’m not the same person I was before Loren. We change as a person, especially for the person you love. There was one thing for him. John loves Vivienne and he loves Birdie.

“He has a blast with them and even my cousin’s kids he has blast with. I think it (being around kids) definitely changed for him. Once you have a kid, it’s a totally different love you will ever experience. And I think his eyes got open to that and he wants that.”

Recently JJ’s brother-in-law, WWE Superstar Daniel Bryan, noted that he thinks he could beat CM Punk’s latest UFC opponent, Mike Jackson, on the ground if WWE granted him the opportunity to do so:

“I could beat him on the ground for sure. If WWE would let me fight in UFC, maybe.”

JJ said he doesn’t believe Bryan would ever fight in the UFC, as it just isn’t “in his blood”:

“Daniel wouldn’t fight in UFC, it’s not in his blood. He is a technical guy. Bryan is not the ground and pound, want to beat someone up guy… that mentality that you probably need to have for UFC.

“He is a technical guy and probably one of the best wrestlers of all time technically, and that’s what he really enjoys. He never will get into it. I know that for a fact. He loves UFC by the way. He loves watching it.”

  • Zeda On If She’ll Continue Wrestling After WWE Release

Zeda On If She’ll Continue Wrestling After WWE Release

After being released by WWE earlier this month, former NXT star Zeda did an interview on The Roman Show to talk about her time with the company. Zeda first commented on whether or not she’ll be back for this year’s Mae Young Classic tournament:

“I have no idea if I’ll be in the Mae Young Classic. I hope I am in it. It would be awesome. In the indies I am wiling to wrestle anyone because I want to get out there because I’ve really been exposed only to NXT for the most part at least here in Florida. Of course, I want to wrestle [another WWE MYC competitor], Renee Michelle.”

Zeda then commented on what a great experience it was working the Mae Young Classic last year:

“It was a great experience, very different. Before I went to NXT it was like I had some indie wrestling friends and I saw some shows here and there, but not a lot. Going in there it’s like learning how everything is done and then coming [to the WWE MYC] I’m like, wow, they’re more for TV and more detailed because they have to be.”

As for whether or not she’d return to mixed martial arts (MMA) or continue her professional wrestling career, Zeda seems dead set on continuing professional wrestling after already having spent a decade doing MMA:

“No, I want to focus my time in wrestling. I’ve spent ten years in MMA. After doing all that, doing MMA, and the entertainment industry, like singing and dance. I was always torn between the two. I was like ‘Should I chase the MMA career or acting/modeling career?’ Afterwards, when I realized there was [wrestling], this was more fitting for me and I really want to explore this route.”

  • Jim Ross Reveals What Big Cass Needs To Work On To Be A Star

Jim Ross Reveals What Big Cass Needs To Work On To Be A Star

WWE Hall Of Famer Jim Ross recently took to his podcast, The Ross Report, to talk about several professional wrestling topics. One such topic were his thoughts on SmackDown Live star Big Cass. Ross noted that he’s a fan of Cass and explained why his size, standing at seven-feet-tall, is such a big deal:

“I like Cass.” Ross added, “look, he’s seven feet tall, folks! You can’t teach that! I actually said that in a meeting one time at the [WWE] Performance Center in Orlando [Florida], in a meeting. I’ll tell that story one of these days, but it’s a good deal. And you can’t teach that. And the WWE has always coveted size because every great promoter knows that people get their heads turned by size.

“Why in the hell else would a fat lady in a circus sell a ticket? Because of her size and freakishness. So he’s seven feet and he’s being provided valuable TV time, folks. No doubt. You know what I say, you’d better damn sure maximize your minutes, so what this kid [has] got to do in my opinion is to continue to be aggressive.

“I don’t need a seven-footer on the roster who’s a finesse guy, a style guy. Like I said, I don’t need… I can use the basketball analogy because basketball’s ongoing. I need a [power forward] of a [center] from Big Cass, not a [shooting guard].”

Good Ole’ JR noted that if Cass wants to be a major player in WWE that he needs to work on his promo skills and address some holes he has in his game:

“I need physicality, but he also needs work on his delivery,” Ross admitted. “That’s out of the ring practice. In your car, at home, in front of a mirror, wherever you are, make sure that you are seeing what you’re saying. Look at your face when you say these things. And I think he needs to work on his promos sounding a little more organic, not memorized.

“And sometimes, because you have to memorize them by and large, it’s hard to not sound memorized. So you don’t want it to sound like a script, by the way. But I’ll tell you, being seven feet tall is an asset for him. He [has] got a great look. I have confidence that he’ll be a star, but he [has] got to fill some holes in his game and that’s a daily effort, daily plan.

“And I don’t know the kid well enough to say what his daily plan is or what they’re doing with him behind-the-scenes to work on some of these issues, but, again, you can’t teach that. He’s seven feet tall. He’s young and a good looking kid.”

  • WWE Doctor Chris Amaan Had Relationship With Former Divas Champ, WWE Issues Statement

The week before the libel & slander case against former WWE Champion CM Punk and Colt Cabana by WWE Doctor Chris Amaan, Amaan filed for several motions to make sure that some issues weren’t brought up during the trial in front of the jury.

According to a report from Deadspin, one of those issues was a relationship Amaan had with former WWE Divas Champion Jillian Hall. There were some motions that were sealed away and the only people who saw them were those involved with the case, however, others were available at the Cook County Courts at Daley Center in Chicago on computer terminals in the clerk’s office.

One of those motions argued that during the trial the defense couldn’t mention Amann’s romantic and sexual relations with Hall and another indy wrestler (who remains unnamed) he met while she unsuccessfully tried out for WWE twice.

None of this was brought up during the trial, meaning that the motion was successful. There were also some excerpts from depositions before the trial began, which included Amann answering “yes” to questions such as if he had “any relationship with [Hall] while she was a performer,” if they were “more than friends,” if they had “a sexual relationship,” and if they had “a romantic relationship.”

Two more depositions also mentioned Amann’s relationship with Hall. A friend of Punk and Cabana’s, also a former WWE Superstar, Cliff Compton, testified about a conversation he and with Hall (when he wasn’t working for WWE) who told him about the relationship. CM Punk’s sister, Chaleen Rumpf, also noted that both Punk and Compton had told her about “unethical things that the doctors were doing” in the WWE such as “the doctor is sleeping with, you know, some of the wrestlers.”

Deadspin contacted Hall about the matter and she confirmed that she had a romantic relationship with Amaan when he was working as the traveling doctor for the RAW brand. Amaan and his legal team did not respond for comment on the matter. A spokesperson for WWE did, however, issue out this statement on the situation:

“We were not aware of this. We are investigating the matter and will determine if any action is warranted.”

A source who worked on the RAW brand while Amaan and Hall were together noted to Deadspin that neither attempted to hide their relationship.

  • Natalya On Which RAW Star Brings The Best Out Of Her Opponents

Natalya On Which RAW Star Brings The Best Out Of Her Opponents

WWE Superstar Natalya recently spoke to Sun Sport to promote the new Then, Now, Forever: The Evolution of WWE’s Women’s Division WWE DVD. The Queen Of Harts talked about several professional wrestling topics, the first of those being how impressed she has been with former RAW Women’s Champion Sasha Banks.

Natalya has been impressed with The Boss’ in-ring work and says she brings out the best of her opponents inside the ring:

“I like it when people say that about me – we all want to be in great matches. It’s a great aspiration to have. You want to be that girl or guy who can have that great match with anyone. I’ve been working with Sasha Banks a lot on Raw and I see that in her too. I was so impressed with her in that Fatal 4-Way. Whether it’s Sasha against Charlotte, Sasha against Bayley… it’s just every girl I see in there with Sasha. She brings out the best in her opponents.”

She then revealed that she believes the moment she realized Triple H believed in her was when he entrusted her in working with rising star Charlotte Flair:

“I never knew how much Triple H believed in me until that moment. He knew I was the right person to elevate Charlotte and give her this moment. I think Triple H saw similarities in me and Charlotte. We both come from wrestling backgrounds. Charlotte had those same shoes to fill and family expectations. We didn’t even have a time limit. Triple said, ‘Just go in there and tear the house down.’

“It was my first time in my WWE career that I was just allowed to be me – to go in there and just do my thing and have complete control. It was such a special moment for me. That match sparked this surge of more incredible women’s matches in NXT. Then the girls on the main roster wanted those matches too. It was this crazy collaboration of the universe coming together – the fans, WWE management, and the girls all being on board and saying, ‘We need this.’”

Triple H On If WWE Is Willing To Do Crossover Events

Triple H recently did an interview with SunSport in the UK to talk about several professional wrestling topics. One such topic was the possibility of WWE working with other promotions such as IMPACT Wrestling, Ring Of Honor (ROH) or New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) for crossover events in the future. This is an idea that many wrestling fans would love to see happen in the future.

According to Triple H, WWE is willing to work with other promotions and listed out the deals the company already has in place with PROGRESS and ICW. If the right situation presents itself, it looks like WWE is willing to do business with just about anybody:

“We are open to doing things with anybody or anything. We have an alliance with PROGRESS in the UK, a situation with ICW in Scotland, two very well run and respected promotions that do good business – but more importantly they are cultivating talent.

“They are not just exploiting talent and grabbing guys to do a show with them, they are teaching talent and trying to make them better, which is what it is all about for me. Is there opportunity for cross-promotional events? Absolutely, with the right things. It’s a blank slate and I’m open to just about anything if the right situation shows itself”

  • UFC President Dana White Blasts CM Punk’s MMA Haters

UFC President Dana White Blasts CM Punk’s MMA Haters

Last weekend (Sat. June 9, 2018) former WWE Champion CM Punk participated in the second mixed martial arts (MMA) fight of his career at UFC 225 on pay-per-view (PPV). Punk fought former Houston Golden Gloves winner Mike Jackson.

Punk was able to last all three rounds, as opposed to his first fight where he lost via submission in just over two minutes, but that was largely due to his opponent dragging the fight out. Punk has received a lot of criticism for his MMA career, with many suggesting he should simply return to professional wrestling.

UFC President Dana White recently jumped to Punk’s aid, saying he was following his dreams and put a ton of dedication into his new venture. He also blasted fans by saying it’s easy for them to criticize Punk, who is fighting three five minute rounds inside a cage, while they’re sitting in their living rooms watching:

“This guy was actually a huge star at WWE, came over here and put it all on the line twice in front of the whole world. Now if people can’t respect that, then you’re a f–king idiot anyways,” White said about Punk when speaking to the MMA Roasted podcast.

“You can’t tell somebody don’t do the thing that you want to do the most. CM Punk wanted to be a UFC fighter. He wanted to come and he wanted to fight here. He wanted it so bad that he f–king dropped everything and focused on nothing but mixed martial arts. Next time you talk to Duke Roufus or [Anthony] Pettis or any of those guys, talk about how this guy was driving back and forth from Chicago to their place and would drive for hours to come out and train and would train forever and they all ended up respecting him.

“The guy went in there and put it all on the line. Tell me one guy that can walk into the UFC at 38 years old and compete after he’s been training for f–king months,” White said. “He was just a regular guy. The only reason Brock Lesnar did as well as he did is because he was a real wrestler. The guy actually came from collegiate wrestling and he was one of the best.”

With all that being said, White doesn’t see a third UFC opportunity in Punk’s future, but credited him for having the guts to do it in the first place:

“I don’t think he really wants a third chance,” White said. “Hopefully after this last fight, the guy he’s got balls and he’s got guts and he went on the world stage and he gave it two shots. A lot of people want to talk s–t on CM Punk, get in there, come on over. Fight one of these guys. It’s easy to f–king sit in your living room and talk s–t. Come in here.”

  • Shayna Baszler Talks Possibly Working With The Four Horsewomen Of MMA

Shayna Baszler Talks Possibly Working With The Four Horsewomen Of MMA

NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler recently did an interview with Rock Sins during NXT’s run at the Download Festival over the weekend to talk about several professional wrestling topics. Baszler first discussed her transition from mixed martial arts (MMA) over to professional wrestling:

“It’s been smoother I think because I’m a catch wrestler, I’ve been a catch wrestler in MMA, Josh Barnett my main head coach for like 12 years he is a professional wrestler as well as a fighter. Bill Robinson would teach us for mixed martial arts as well as sports entertainment, this is what I’ve been in for a while so I think I have a leg up on people that are like ‘I fight MMA, I think I like this so I’m gonna try it’ I’ve been involved in this a lot longer than people realize as far as the training and the working for it too.”

She then talked about working in front of a British crowd and a Download Festival crowd that might not be all fans of professional wrestling:

“Yeah, I think you have to work a little bit to show who you are because they don’t just know, but that’s the stuff I did in MMA, so it’s not unfamiliar to me to let people know who I am. It’s also interesting because a British crowd is different to an American crowd, so that aspect has been more mind-blowing to me than the fact that it’s at a music festival and not a traditional wrestling show.”

Finally, Baszler was asked about the possibility of working with the other MMA Four Horsewomen in WWE:

“It’s a little of both. I’m not going to sidetrack off of my path and the things I’m doing and what I want to accomplish, but who doesn’t want their friends with them at work every day, so it’s awesome, and it’s what we’ve done, once we were living together and training together and we clicked the four of us after the Ultimate Fighter.

“It’s like when Ronda was UFC Champion and Jess was in Invicta and we were all kind of doing our own thing in MMA as well as supporting so it’s kind of the same thing just on the other side of the coin.”

  • Steve Austin On Chris Benoit Giving Him One Of The Best Compliments Ever

Steve Austin On Chris Benoit Giving Him One Of The Best Compliments Ever

WWE Hall Of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin recently took to his podcast, The Steve Austin Show, to talk about several professional wrestling topics. One such topic was working against the late former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Chris Benoit in his hometown of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada on an episode of SmackDown on May 31, 2001.

Austin said he loved performing in front of Canadian crowds, but didn’t enjoy the trip crossing the border up north:

“I always dug Canada. Like I said, it’s a great wrestling place. The biggest problem was crossing over the border and Canada is very strict at the border and they should be. And they go through everything. They makes sure that the Is are dotted and the Ts are crossed. And when the boys start coming through, due to the fact that a lot of times back in the 80s, early 80s, probably 70s, guys were carrying a lot of stuff over there. There were always stories of The Iron Sheik and how he’d have weed on him or something like that with him and he’d put it in someone else’s bag.

“The precedent had already been set. A lot of times, guys came through and they’d be carrying some stuff. There was this, that, and the other. You can probably guess what it might have been. But that was one of the biggest pains in the ass about going to Canada because you knew you’d get pulled over and you’re going to sit in a room for an hour, two, or three. They were going to go through all of your stuff and shake everything out. And 99 times out of 100, they didn’t have s–t, but every here and there, someone would have something.

“That’s why they always kept checking the boys when they came into the country, so great on Customs part – they did a very thorough job. But when you’re one of the guys and you’re just passing through there, and you’ve got nothing in your bag, and you get pulled over, that’s a pain in the ass because you’re always on a schedule, trying to hit the gym, you’re trying to hit a tanning bed, you’re trying for something to eat. You might check into your hotel room.

“It might be one of those deals where you go straight to the building and you’ve got a long road trip after that. But that was always a pain in the ass when you had to go pass through Customs on the way there.” Austin added, “coming and going across the border was a pain in the ass. Getting the directions in French was not fun. The crowds were always great.”

Austin talked about the great match he and Benoit had on SmackDown. He revealed that Benoit told him to disregard the go-home cue and he would take the heat for it backstage. Austin was underwhelmed with the match he and Benoit had the night before on RAW:

“I had a great match with Chris Benoit in Edmonton one night and I believe it was on the SmackDown show.” Austin continued, “and we had worked the previous night on RAW and they only gave us a certain amount of minutes and I wasn’t very happy with that match because we didn’t have enough time to build a proper story.

“I’ll never forget when we rolled into Edmonton that night. It was SmackDown and we were going to work together again. And I told Chris before we went out there, I said, ‘dude,’ I said, ‘I don’t care how much time they give us – we’re going to go home when it’s time to go home. And it’s all on me. I’ll take the heat, so if they give us the go home cue, disregard it.’ And we really ripped it up that night.”

During the match Austin came up with a spot where Benoit would hit him with 10 German Suplexes. Austin noted he wasn’t in any pain from his injured neck taking the moves, but said storyline-wise it made sense for Benoit to attack the injured area:

“I said, ‘hey man, we’re going to go as long as we need to go’ and it was Chris’s hometown, I believe. I think it was Edmonton. We had worked the night before. [We] didn’t have the match I wanted to have because I knew how much Chris could go and I respected him. And so, I said, ‘hey man, I don’t see you making a traditional comeback on me.

“I see this being something where you just grab me from behind and let’s go 10 German suplexes, 10 in a row, because I just don’t see a regular comeback. I see 10 German suplexes and here comes Vince [McMahon] coming down and I barely escape with the belt.’ And Chris thought about that for a minute and he goes, ‘I like that.’ And so, that’s what we went out and did. So it wasn’t in the moment.

“It was something that I called, I planned, I ran across Chris, and he dug it. And we did it.” Austin added, “I called the suplexes and I wasn’t in any pain. And the pain in referring to is because I was returning from my neck fusion and I’d figured all the bumps that I had taken leading up to that match that I would be fine taking those bumps.

“And it would be a great ploy, a great strategy, for Chris to use to focus on my weakness, or perceived weakness, which could be construed as my neck because of the fusion, because of the surgery. And I was working heel at the time, so he’s giving it back to me and then some. So it made sense for that in his comeback.”

After the match Austin claims Benoit paid him one of the biggest compliments of his career by telling him he had gotten him over:

“I’ll never forget after that match, I’ve said it on the podcast before, it was one of the highest complements I’d ever been paid by an opponent.” Austin remembered, “we always shake hands after the matches. And, man, that was Chris’s hometown, man. And we got off the headbutt off the top turnbuckle, me throwing the belt up, him getting a little bit of color from that accidentally.

“It was a real solid match. And he goes, ‘man, thanks.’ He goes, ‘you really got me over’ and he got it. He knew what I was trying to do and it was my job to do was to get him over. He was already over to a degree, but I got him more over than he was after the match than he was before the match, and he recognized that. And he told me that and I’ll never forget that complement.

“And I wish things hadn’t gone the way they had for Chris as far as down the road, but, man, the Chris Benoit that I knew was a badass worker, great dude, cool as hell, and so I remember that match vividly. Out of all the things I’ve forgotten, I remember that match.”

  • Joe Rogan: CM Punk ‘Doesn’t Have Any Physical Talent’

Joe Rogan: CM Punk ‘Doesn’t Have Any Physical Talent’

In a recent episode of his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, mixed martial arts (MMA) expert and UFC commentator Joe Rogan discussed former WWE Champion CM Punk’s UFC 225 performance this past weekend.

Punk took on former Houston, TX Golden Gloves winner Mike Jackson in a three round welterweight contest. He lost the fight via unanimous decision, getting virtually dominated throughout the entirety of the fight. Rogan wasn’t too big a fan of Punk fighting in the UFC, and said that Punk doesn’t have any physical talent like other athletes who make the transition into MMA:

“The whole thing was very weird,” said Rogan. Like, right away, when you see CM Punk holding his hands up and moving stiff and throwing kicks, [I’m like], ‘oh Jesus.’ Like, I don’t like that being on pay-per-view. I understand that they are selling pay-per-view cards, but pay-per-view in the UFC should be the elite fighters. It’s like you took a dude [with] no wrestling background, no nothing, and you go, ‘alright, this is what I want you to do. This is a jab.

“This is a right hand. When you throw a kick, I want you to pivot your hips. Go in there and spar. I mean, he just doesn’t have the ability to move his body right. There’s a lot of guys that you could take out there—track and field guys, or football players, and you could get them to fight better than him in a couple of weeks. Easily. Because they’re athletes. They’re athletes. They would understand how to shift their weight, [and] throw a punch… he doesn’t have any talent.

“That’s all it is. He just doesn’t have any physical talent. For whatever reason. Whether it’s his approach, his intensity. It’s not his coaching. He’s with Duke f–kin Roufus. If Duke just grabbed some dude from a gas station that has been drinking beer and smoking cigarettes his whole life, and had him in a fight in six months, how much can you possibly expect?”

  • Brock Lesnar Not Scheduled For SummerSlam Or Any Other WWE PPVs

Brock Lesnar Not Scheduled For SummerSlam Or Any Other WWE PPVs

Its been reported for the past several weeks that WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar is expected to defend his title against Roman Reigns in the main event of SummerSlam on August 19th. The Beast is expected to drop the title at the event and it’s rumored it would be his last match under his current WWE deal.

Per an update from Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Reigns vs. Lesnar is not yet a done deal for SummerSlam as of this past weekend. In addition, Vince McMahon has yet to confirm Lesnar for the SummerSlam event at all. Lesnar isn’t even scheduled for any upcoming WWE dates either at the moment, which is odd given he’s the top champion on RAW.

Lesnar is reportedly aware of this and, and as of a few days ago WWE officials have yet to confirm a return for The Beast. He is currently the longest reigning WWE World Champion of the Modern Era, breaking CM Punk’s previous record of 434 days earlier this week.

  • Chris Jericho: NJPW Is Breathing Down WWE’s Neck

Chris Jericho: NJPW Is Breathing Down WWE’s Neck

After winning the IWGP Intercontinental Championship from Tetsuya Naito at Dominion, Chris Jericho spoke to the Winnipeg Free Press to talk about New Japan Pro Wrestling’s (NJPW) growing popularity lately.

Jericho admitted that the promotion is growing “slowly but surely” and also said that NJPW is “basically breathing down the neck of the WWE.” His full comments can be found below:

“(NJPW) is a company that’s slowly but surely increasing its worldwide popularity and basically breathing down the neck of the WWE. It’s a Japanese wrestling company, the top stars are Japanese, but there we were, two foreigners, headlining and main eventing the Tokyo Dome. It would be like two Japanese football teams in the Super Bowl. The fact it’s two guys from Winnipeg is a really huge deal.”

  • JJ Dillon On His Early Interaction With The Rock That Could’ve Changed Wrestling History

JJ Dillon On His Early Interaction With The Rock That Could’ve Changed Wrestling History

Former professional wrestling manager and WWE executive JJ Dillon was recently a guest on the Sitting Ringside podcast with David Penzer to talk about several professional wrestling topics. Dillon first discussed Sgt. Slaughter turning heel and why the WrestleMania 7 venue was changed:

“We try at times in this business to mirror the political environment. But for some reason when they tried to turn him [Sgt. Slaughter], I firmly believe people were not accepting it because of who he was. He was too identifiable with this county. It just didn’t work.

“No matter what he did, people never accepted it. The worst thing you want to have happen is having something you were so invested in not work out. To go to a big open arena / stadium it would have been promotional suicide.”

Dillon also talked about why the dream match between Hulk Hogan and Ric Flair didn’t take place at WrestleMania 8:

“These words will never come out of Vince McMahon’s mouth, but I heard it repeated a lot from others, that this match was made 5 years too late. We waited 5 years too long to make this happen.”

Finally, Dillon told the story of an early interaction he had with former WWE Champion-turned-Hollywood mega-star The Rock that could’ve changed the history of professional wrestling forever:

“I was a part of the decision process that ended up hiring [The Rock] and Mark Henry. I remember one night I think we were at The Garden, The Rock pulled me aside and said, ‘I know I can speak openly and honest with you, can you make some phone calls to get me out of here [WWE]. From all my time in college and in Florida and my time in the business, I always had money in my pocket. [Right now] I don’t have two dollars in my pocket, I feel vulnerable.’

“In this particular moment you can’t begin to imagine what is laying in front of you regarding your success and financial rewards, because you don’t have two dollars in your pocket. Because it hasn’t yet happened yet, you can’t let this moment change you. I told him, ‘this is the lowest of lows you’ll experience.’ I said, ‘give me five minutes. put this [thought process] on hold.’

“Five minutes later I come back, and I tell him to open up his hand. I put $200, $300, $500, whatever it was in his hand and told him to wrap his hand around it. ‘Now put that hand in your pocket, how does that feel to have money again?’ This moment right there changed his whole mental outlook and helped him.”

  • Why The Authors Of Pain Have Been Off WWE TV

Why The Authors Of Pain Have Been Off WWE TV

Since making their main roster debuts this past April, The Authors Of Pain have only wrestled two matches on Monday Night RAW. They defeated Heath Slater and Rhyno on an April 9th RAW, and defeating Apollo Crews and Titus O’Neil on a May 14th episode of Main Event.

According to a report from John Pollack of Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the team hasn’t been around because one of its members was having a visa issue. It turns out that issue has since been resolved and they’re being held off the show because currently the plan is to push The B Team and Dolph Ziggler & Drew McIntyre.

WWE doesn’t want The Authors Of Pain to be just another tag team, so they plan on brining them back to TV when they can focus on pushing them and getting them over. It should be interesting to see what creative has planned for the former NXT Tag Team Champs upon their return.

Discussion: What would you like to see WWE do with The Authors Of Pain when they come back to RAW?

  • How TNA Officials Felt About AJ Styles Being A Top Guy

How TNA Officials Felt About AJ Styles Being A Top Guy

Former WWE and TNA official Bruce Prichard recently took to his WWE Network special, Something Else To Wrestle, and discussed current WWE Champion AJ Styles’ run in TNA several years ago. Co-host Conrad Thompson asked Prichard what TNA officials thought of Styles as a top guy in the company.

Here’s what Prichard had to say on the matter:

“I had never worked with AJ beyond his tryout matches for WWE so immediately I’m hearing the negative,” Prichard said when co-host Conrad Thompson asked what TNA officials thought about AJ as a top guy. “I hear that, ‘AJ, he just wants to wrestle his matches and do all these high spots, he doesn’t listen, doesn’t want to change, doesn’t want to grow. He’s a pain in the ass.

“We’re trying to build him into a bigger star and he’s bucking us at every single opportunity.’ The feeling was that AJ just wasn’t willing to do what it took to become a star. For example… they wanted AJ to bleach his hair blonde like Ric Flair. AJ didn’t want to do that. They wanted AJ to wear robes like Ric Flair but it looked like something that his daughter put together. It just wasn’t a good look and AJ wasn’t comfortable being Ric Flair.

“He didn’t want to talk about being up all night with the women. AJ’s happily married and a very religious guy. He didn’t want that perception. Every time you suggest something new to AJ, he doesn’t want to do it. Unless it’s just wrestling a match with one of his buddies, he doesn’t want to do it. I learned early on in my career that you try to judge people on how they treat you.

“And I tried talking to AJ and found that he was pretty receptive to things. He had good reasons why he didn’t want to do some of the things suggested to him. So, now all of a sudden I’m trying to find a way to get into AJ, in a way to pitch him ideas and try to do some different things with him which he was open to, at least with me.”
