WWE Stars Show Support For Kofi Kingston After Title Loss

On Friday night’s SmackDown on FOX, “The Beast” Brock Lesnar dethroned Kofi Kingston in mere seconds to become the WWE Champion. Lesnar immediately hit an F5 on Kofi as soon as the match began and ended Kofi’s reign.

The loss was shocking in the way it ended as Kofi’s reign was a historic one and many fans believed that it didn’t deserve to end like that.

After the match Kofi reacted to his loss and said that he is dealing with a lot of emotions but he knew what kind of a man he was up against, and that he takes pride in taking up the challenge of facing Brock Lesnar. Kingston said that he is trying to figure out how to get back into the WWE Championship picture again.

Soon after the surprising upset, WWE stars recognized Kofi’s accomplishments and gave huge praises and support to him on Twitter. You can check out the posts below:

The former champ later issued a statement where he stated that he was overwhelmed by the support from fans and his coworkers alike and he considers that his mission has been accomplished. He then thanked everyone for letting him live his childhood dream of becoming a champion.

“Once again, I’m so overwhelmed by the outpouring of love I’ve seen on here over the last 24 hours. As a WWE Superstar, one always hopes to experience moments in this industry that have a real and positive impact on people’s lives. Judging by all of these messages, I’d say that mission’s been accomplished.

And again, without all of you and your support, none of this happens, so thank you all for letting me live out my childhood dream to the fullest. I am forever indebted to you.

I’m not sure what comes next, but I will always be so proud and honored to have been your champion… “

Kingston became WWE Champion at WrestleMania 35 when he defeated then-champion Daniel Bryan. It was the first time he held a major WWE title.

  • Why Jushin Liger Was Not Booked For NJPW’s Fighting Spirit USA Tour

Why Jushin Liger Was Not Booked For NJPW’s Fighting Spirit USA Tour

Jushin Liger was missing from the NJPW’s Fighting Spirit: Unleashed Tour and the reason behind it could be storyline-based.

If you haven’t caught up with what’s going on at New Japan, here’s the gist. At the recent Destruction in Kobe event on September 22, Jushin Liger attacked Minoru Suzuki and other members of Suzuki-Gun when Suzuki attempted to remove Liger’s mask. Liger delivered a low blow to get him off, then unmask himself to reveal his alter ego: Kishin Liger.

    Kishin Liger
    Kishin Liger.

This side of Liger is considered to be extremely dangerous, and there’s no saying on how he’ll try to attack his opponents. This was made clear when he tried to stab Suzuki with a large metal spike last week.

Related: Kishin Liger’s History In NJPW Revisited

Back to why Liger was missing from the tour. According to a report from PWInsider, Jushin was not booked for the tour because his alter ego Kishin was unleashed. Kishin Liger is a rare transformation which usually happens when someone tries to remove Jushin Liger’s mask. He has had his mask removed to reveal the evil Kishin Liger only four times over the last three decades. Needless to say, we only get to see this character in special events.

The Kishin Liger gimmick consists of mannerisms and imagery that is the exact opposite to that of a normal person. Jushin Thunder Liger on the other hand, is a wholesome and jovial type of character. It appears that Jushin Liger was not booked for the event because it would contradict the ongoing storyline with Minoru Suzuki.

She has a combined reign of 11,106 days, or around 30 years.

  • CM Punk And Colt Cabana’s Lawsuit Settled

CM Punk And Colt Cabana’s Lawsuit Settled

The CM Punk vs. Colt Cabana lawsuit is reportedly settled.

According to David Bixenspan of Forbes, an update on the docket for the lawsuit read “DISMISS BY STIPULATION OR AGREEMENT” which has been seemingly initiated by Punk. On Sunday, it was confirmed by Carey Stein, who is Cabana’s lawyer that the lawsuits had been settled.

According to PWInsider, both CM Punk and Colt Cabana filed for the dismissal of the case, with prejudice. However, there was no financial settlement and both parties agreed to drop their cases. With prejudice is a legal term meaning that both parties will not be able to refile the case against each other over this issue.

Cabana and Punk have been involved in this legal battle since August of 2018. Cabana sued Punk for $1.2 million for breach of contract as Punk had promised to cover all of Cabana’s legal costs related to the defamation suit filed against them by WWE doctor Chris Amann over the now infamous Art of Wrestling podcast episode.

Cabana’s suit was dismissed but he was allowed to refile, and he did multiple times. Punk filed a countersuit against Cabana this June claiming he was owed $600,000 which is half of their legal fees he spent on the Amman case. Punk also noted that the Art of Wrestling podcast episode was popular and had been monetized by Cabana, but Punk was never compensated for his appearance.

Now that the dust has settled, it still doesn’t look like their friendship will be doing too well judging by the tweets Punk made:

Jerry Lawler On How He Got Commentary Role On Raw Again

If you haven’t heard, Jerry “The King” Lawler is all set to head back to take the commentating role on WWE Raw.

We reported earlier that Lawler will be joining Vic Joseph and Dio Maddin on Monday night on the commentary booth of the show. Michael Cole, on the other hand, will be moved to SmackDown Live for the play by play duties of the show along with Corey Graves and Renee Young.

Lawler spoke about his return to commenting duties in an interview with the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

Lawler revealed that he got a call from WWE’s executive vice president of television production Kevin Dunn who offered him the role. “I got a call about it Tuesday morning from Kevin Dunn. He said, ‘I’ve got a proposition for you. It may be good news, and it may be bad news.’ He knows I don’t like to travel a whole lot anymore, so that was the bad part. I said, ‘What’s the good part?’ He said, ‘We want you back on Raw. He told me it’s for however long I want to do it, so that sealed the deal.”

Lawler was told that initially the plan was to have a two-man booth on Raw but Vince McMahon suggested they add Lawler in.

“It was (Raw’s executive director) Paul (Heyman’s) idea to put Vic and Dio on Raw,” Lawler said. “Apparently, what I was told, Vince (McMahon) said, ‘You can’t throw these two new, young guys on our flagship show. Call King.’ That’s how it happened.”

Lawler recalled what Vince told him when he started his job 25 years ago. He feels confident for his return.

“All I’ve been able to think about is what Vince told me when I first started over 25 years ago, ‘It’s live TV — nothing can go wrong,’” Lawler said. “I feel real confident it’ll be like riding a bike. I’ll treat it exactly the way I always have — like I’m watching the show in my living room with my neighbor. The name of the company is World Wrestling Entertainment. And I’ve always thought the commentators are an important part of the entertainment.”

Lawler began his WWF career in December 1992 as an announcer for the the company. He was also involved in a number of storylines with Bret Hart, Vince McMahon and Doink the Clown. By 1998, he rarely wrestled and was primarily focused on commentary. He quit the WWF in protest when his then-wife Stacy “The Kat” Carter was released by the company in February 2001.

He however returned to the company in November of the same year after a brief stint in the indies, and would continue to work as a commentator until 2016. Afterwards, he was kept for special events such as the Hall of Fame ceremony and would only do periodic appearances.

Baron Corbin Pokes Fun At AEW Fans Again

Baron Corbin has been vocal about standing up for WWE and has said before that he will always defend the company against haters. He also seems to can’t keep to himself when it comes to poking fun at supporters of AEW.

Recently, Corbin commented on an Instagram post about fans who overanalyze every little thing done by AEW such as the stickers on the company’s trucks, promos done on Being The Elite, its UK TV deal issues, etc.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/B272bd1gMwx/

Corbin commented on the post taking a shot at AEW and its fans. According to Corbin, AEW is for people who nitpick and complain about everything. He wrote, “The ones who criticize every detail are literally their target audience haha.”

This is nothing new for Corbin, as he has taken shots at AEW fans before too. Corbin had much to say on an Instagram post criticizing fans who complain about WWE putting their titles on older stars but supporting AEW who themselves have Chris Jericho, 48 as the current AEW World Champion.

Corbin chimed in with his opinion, and commented, “All of these smarks have hated everything we do and complained about every detail that now they are forced to love everything these guys do even when it shows dumb they really are.” Corbin didn’t really hold back and called out what he sees as the hypocrisy of the WWE naysayers.

Corbin has said before that he will always support the WWE. “I’ll always stand up for WWE,” Corbin said in an interview. “We have the best superstars in the world, and we have the best people helping. We have Triple H, Michael Hayes, Fit Finlay, and Vince McMahon. We’re the best in the world, and I’m willing to stand up for that. I hold what we do to anyone in the world, no matter if it’s another wrestling company or the MLB or the NFL.”

Corbin’s most recent accomplishment in the ring has been his win at the King of the Ring tournament where he defeated Chad Gable in the finals.

Dolph Ziggler conducted a Q&A session on Twitter with his fans, where he answered a lot of interesting questions which discussed whether he will watch AEW’s All Out, or he would he leave the main roster for NXT, and more.

Ziggler was asked if he would be watching AEW All Out, to which he said, “Nah. Hope it goes great! That’s good for everyone.”

One of the questions Ziggler was asked if he would like a name for his newly formed tag team with Robert Roode. He answered, “I’d prefer to not have one & just continues to be great at our jobs.”

He also gave a succinct “nah” for a question that asked if he would leave the main roster for NXT. He was also asked which woman he would want to tag with him and Roode. He choose Renee Young.

When asked who his favorite female wrestler was, Dolph replied, “Naomi. Always Naomi”.

The video features SmackDown mainstays and other Legends like Steve Austin, The Rock, Becky Lynch, John Cena, Kofi Kingston, Charlotte Flair, The Undertaker, Daniel Bryan, Ric Flair, Seth Rollins, Randy Orton, Roman Reigns, and Rey Mysterio.

A few hours after the video was posted, Batista retweeted the ad with the comment, “C’mon guys really?! ? #zerorespect”. The implication being that he should have been included in the video along with the other stars.

Someone pointed out that other stars like Shawn Michaels, Bret Hart, Hulk Hogan, etc were also not featured, to which Batista replied, “But with all due respect this is an A,b #smackdown conversation. And I’m sure they’re capable of speaking for themselves. Which I am doing. Youre dismissed”

The premiere episode of WWE SmackDown Live on the FOX network will be a 20th Anniversary special. The show will take place on October 4 from the Staples Center in Los Angeles, California. WWE Were Considering Bringing Back AOP For This Week’s Raw

    The tag-team turmoil match.

If you haven’t already been caught up with this week’s WWE RAW, you might have missed what happened at the tag-team turmoil match on Monday.

Lucha House Party, The O.C., Viking Raiders, Hawkins & Ryder, B-Team, Heavy Machinery, The Revival and the seemingly random team of Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode competed in a Tag Team Turmoil Match. The winner of this match would get a title shot at the Raw Tag Team Championships at Clash of Champions. Of course, the team of Dolph Ziggler & Robert Roode won, which means they will now face Seth Rollins and Braun Strowman on September 15.

Bryan Alvarez on Wrestling Observer Live reported that WWE were considering bringing back AOP for the match, but the company nixed the plan.

Now, the Wrestling Observer Newsletter is also reporting that the change regarding AOP’s return was made by Vince McMahon.

They were even supposed to do well in the match, but were ultimately scheduled to lose to Roode and Ziggler.

AOP has been out of action for some time now on WWE TV due to Akam recovering from a knee injury. They did however, wrestle at a live event SmackDown show in July.

It would have been brilliant if Akam and Rezar were given a return on the night and if they had been given an opportunity to shine.

Triple H Praises Jordan Devlin, Calls Him “Global Star”

WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events and Creative Triple H did an interview with The Irish Mirror and talked about one of the hottest NXT UK stars, Jordan Devlin. He heaped praises at the 29-year-old and complimented his growth on the brand.

Speaking about Devlin’s contributions to NXT UK, Triple H said, “His transformation and what he has done in the NXT UK brand with the guidance of the people around him has taken him to a whole new level. He is a different performer from the guy that I saw when we first started this was very good and had a lot of potential.”

Triple H said that he sees Devlin as a global star and it’s just the beginning: “The guy I see now is a global star on every level and he is really just getting started.”

Devlin, known as The “Ace” of Over The Top Wrestling, had a memorable feud with WALTER in the promotion, and put on some great matches that are considered one of the best matches in OTT’s history. Triple H said that he wants to bring that rivalry for WWE television.

“I want to see the best face the best. I believe styles make fights, it’s what makes them great.”

Triple H expanded on the fact that Devlin is now on a higher level and if the rivalry comes to fruition on WWE television, then it would be even better than before.

“The thing people also need to keep in mind is that as hot as that has been locally, Jordan is at a much higher standard to where he was a year ago and a year before that. When you see that rivalry on NXT UK, it’s going to be nothing like what you’ve seen before because we will take it to another level, as good as it was before, you’ve seen nothing yet!”

While Devlin is not scheduled for a match at NXT UK Takeover: Cardiff event which is streaming today, he will be paying attention on the WWE UK Championship Match between Tyler Bate and WALTER. Make sure to check back SEScoops.com for coverage of the event.

  • Drake Maverick Won’t Be Wrestling On 205 Live Again

Drake Maverick Won’t Be Wrestling On 205 Live Again

This week’s WWE 205 Live’s main event saw its General Manager Drake Maverick compete in an Unsanctioned Match against Mike Kanellis in a winning effort. This match was the in-ring debut of Maverick on the cruiserweight brand.

Although Maverick’s performance in the match was exciting, we won’t be seeing any more of him wrestling on the brand.

Speaking to Sarah Schreiber in a post-match interview, Maverick said that he has no plans to continue competing on 205 Live.

When asked if we will see more of him on the Cruiserweight division, Maverick said, “Sarah, I can honestly say… absolutely not. Absolutely not. My priorities are back to being a General Manager – that right there is why 205 Live is the best, most physical action you will ever see on the WWE Network every Tuesday night.”

Maverick went back to focus on his General Manager role as soon as his match was over. “But as my duties as General Manager become priority, my first order of action is to find Drew Gulak a challenger at SummerSlam for the WWE Cruiserweight Championship.”

    Drake Maverick And Mike Kanellis

Kanellis started having problems with Maverick as soon as he arrived on the purple brand in late 2018. He blamed the General Manager for the reason why things didn’t go his way.

Kanellis had a losing streak since arriving on 205 Live, and he was able to break it only with the help of Maria Kanellis. On the July 16th episode of 205 Live, Mike Kanellis demanded a Cruiserweight Championship title shot which was declined by Maverick, and that resulted in a brawl between the two when Kanellis insulted Maverick and his wife.

And thus, an Unsanctioned Match was set in place, and if Kanellis had won, he would have become Drew Gulak’s challenger for the Cruiserweight title.

  • Kofi Kingston To Randy Orton: “I Am Not The Same Kid You Buried In 2009”

Kofi Kingston To Randy Orton: “I Am Not The Same Kid You Buried In 2009”

After successfully retaining the WWE Championship, Kofi Kingston set his sight on the next block – WWE SummerSlam. Kingston wrote, “And we’re on to #SummerSlam…”

The man who is set to face Kingston for the WWE Championship at SummerSlam – Randy Orton, replied to the tweet, coldly reminding him that he’s coming for his title and how lucky he has been at SummerSlam events when it comes to title matches.

To this, Kingston snapped back and said that he’s not the same person that Orton was able to bury back in 2009. He warned Kingston that SummerSlam will be very different.

You can see their interaction below:

Orton still didn’t stop with his jabs and posted a pic in a jocular vein from his vacation with his wife in the Maldives. The caption read, “Day 3 of my #WWE Championship winning workout regimen. I can already feel the gains, and yes I am tan af. Today was balancing while intoxicated and tomorrow @kim.orton01 will help me with my oxygen deprivation training.”

The back and forth between Kingston and Orton has been entertaining so far and it only builds up well towards their eventual meeting in the ring. Meanwhile the current card for the event looks something like this:

    • WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar vs. Seth Rollins
    • WWE RAW Women’s Champion Becky Lynch vs. Natalya
    • WWE SmackDown Women’s Champion Bayley vs. Ember Moon
    • Kevin Owens vs. Shane McMahon – If Owens Loses He’s Forced To Quit WWE
    • WWE Champion Kofi Kingston vs. Randy Orton
    • Finn Balor vs. Bray Wyatt
  • Lisa Marie Varon On Not Being Inducted Into WWE’s Hall Of Fame

Lisa Marie Varon On Not Being Inducted Into WWE’s Hall Of Fame

Lisa Marie Varon, better known as Victoria to WWE fans, recently spoke to Kevin Kellam of WrestleZone.com. During the interview she was asked about possibly being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame.

Varon said that she gets that question all the time and all she really needs is to hear from fans that she did good and that she deserves the honor of getting inducted into the Hall of Fame.

“I get that question all the time. When I hear it from the fans that I deserve it, that means I did my job. They were entertained by me and they appreciated my work, my ethic in the business and they’ve appreciated what I’ve done. That makes me feel good when I hear it from fans, and that’s all I really need.”

Varon also explained that ultimately it only depends on WWE – not on her or fans’ support.

“It’s not my decision to be inducted into the Hall of Fame; we don’t call and say, ‘hey, it’s my turn.’ It’s not something we do. Or it’s ‘well, why don’t you go back?’ You don’t understand—we don’t pick up the phone and say we want to come back, you have to be invited.”

Varon said that it would be amazing if she gets inducted in the future, but for now support from fans is enough for her.

“When that next time comes, it will be amazing, but when I hear it from the fans it’s enough right now. Getting a shout-out from Torrie Wilson—it’s nice, but it’s a hard question to answer because it sounds pompous to say ‘yeah, I deserve to be there’. At the same time, will it happen? I don’t know. It’s not my decision.”

Varon was encouraged to become a professional wrestler by then WWF star Chyna, who she met through a chance meeting. She trained for three years in WWF’s developmnental territories and then made her debut in June 2002. She got a push as soon as she stepped in as she would go on to become the WWE Women’s Champion in just four months of her debut. She won the title from Trish Stratus in a Women’s Championship Hardcore Match at Survivor Series 2002.

She was a part of many Hardcore Matches and Street Fights, and even won a Divas Steel Cage Match against Lita in 2003. She would go on to win the Women’s Championship a second time in February 2004.

She subsequently left WWE in 2009 and debuted in TNA as Tara, where she would go on to become five-time TNA Knockouts Champion.

While it’s no question that she deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, we wonder when the time will come.
