  • Finn Balor Looking To Evolve In-Ring Persona

Finn Balor Looking To Evolve In-Ring Persona

With Matt Hardy successfully bringing his Broken persona to WWE, the veteran sat down with his brother Jeff, and Finn Balor on Table for 3.  The short clip below provides an introduction to the round-table interview which can be found the WWE Network.

The interview also contains Balor and Jeff Hardy discussing their use of face/body paint in the ring (transcribed by WrestlingInc.):

“It’s very hard to explain, but it’s almost like putting on a mask protects you from people’s judgments and lets you completely flow freely, like, with all your aggression and our animosity against anything. And I think everyone, deep down, has insecurities issues, especially in this business. And I find that maybe getting to hide behind the paint, so to speak, kind of protects you from those insecurities and helps me channel a different side of my personality that isn’t always available to me.”

Finn continued by describing how the mask surprised him in ways that he hadn’t previously thought about.

“I didn’t realize how much the paint was going to affect how I moved and how I walked. And it wasn’t something that consciously happened. It was because the first time I’d done it was a Tokyo Dome show, I want to say in 2013-14, and I walked out there and I was a completely different person. I hadn’t rehearsed anything, planned anything, but I remember walking to the ring almost in a limp and I was like, ‘why the hell am I limping?’ It was almost as though the paint took control and it changes the direction your mind moves in.”

Jeff also provides his own view on his use of body paint, agreeing with Finn about the freedom that it allows.

“Every time I paint my face, I’ve always thought of it as my alien skin, the reptilian inside me that makes me different. When I think of aliens, I think of the skin, like, the abstract piece I do on my face, it doesn’t matter. I’m just in such a free zone. I’m just so at peace with myself when I’m doing it. And then, when I do the deal when I close my eyes, and take a picture, I go, ‘tonight, that is my canvas. My face is my canvas.’ Then, I get that, man. You go out there and you’re just more somehow, like, because you’re not your normal self. And to me, it just feels artistically free to express yourself and don’t have a care in the world about what anybody else is thinking! And so, I would be, on purpose, I would be real messy, a lot of the time, with neon, glow-in-the-dark paint. Even after I’d paint my face, I’d go smear it all over my hands and give people confidence not to care at that point in time and just have faith and confidence in yourself and just roll with it.”

The golden nugget of this interview comes in the form of Finn’s aspirations for the future.  Balor explains that he wants to evolve, much in the same way that the Hardys have, with the goal of a new alter ego in the next 5-10 years.

“Obviously, seeing [the Hardys] continue to evolve the last 25 years, that inspires me to keep evolving my character. And I’m quite happy with how I’m doing at the moment, but I’m always trying to push myself to create something new and I think my main goal going forward over the next 5, 10 years would be maybe create another alter ego like you guys have.”

As a bonus to an already eye opening interview, Jeff Hardy hinted at the “inevitable” match-up between The Enigma and The Demon:

“I’ve heard it a lot, man, and people are kind of waiting to see us, like, ‘I can’t wait to see ‘The Enigma’ and ‘The Demon’ in the ring at the same time’ with painted up faces. Hopefully, that’s inevitable, so we’ll see.”

  • WrestleMania 34 Original Location

    WrestleMania 34 Original Location

WrestleMania 34 is set to feature in New Orleans during the city’s tricentennial celebration in 2018.  However this was not always going to be the case.  According to a source from PWInsider, the original venue was set to be the Metlife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

The last time New Jersey hosted WrestleMania was in 2013:

With New Orleans hosting a year after in 2014:

Therefore, it seems like that the Metlife Stadium is in the running for hosting WrestleMania 35, much to the disappointment of all UK fans who pleaded for a London based venue, although nothing has been confirmed yet.

    https://youtu.be/U4r26kTMakc?t=10s

    Opinion:

From an unbiased logical point of view, it makes sense to have WrestleMania in the US, both logistically and financially.  And if there were ever a venue for UK and European fans to visit, New Jersey is on the East coast which is one of more accessible points to those who can hop over the pond.

  • SmackDown Live Viewership Isn’t All It Seems

SmackDown Live Viewership Isn’t All It Seems

This week’s SmackDown Live was thoroughly entertaining, and a great boxing day treat for all fans of the WWE Universe.  The show started off with Daniel Bryan taking charge and laying out the plans for the US Title and SmackDown Live Tag Team Titles for the next few weeks.

And it all ended with a beautifully crafted Kevin Owens win over AJ Styles.  Hats off to Sami Zayn for is performance at the side of the ring with Shane McMahon.

Inbetween all that was the continued return to the ring for Breezango as they took on The Bludgeon Brothers again, and Ruby Riot’s demolition of the SmackDown Live women’s division.

All this amounted to an increased viewership from last week’s average of 2,578,000 to this week’s 2,656,000.  However SmackDown Live’s numbers are actually down compared to this time last year when the show drew an average of 2,885,000 – a decrease of over 200,000 viewers.

The B-Show also lost out to it’s big brother as RAW drew a Christmas Day viewership of 2,703,000 which, again, is down on it’s ratings from last year: 2,855,667.

WWE will understand though, as previous figures have shown a dip in viewers over holidays as only a portion of fans will tune in.  Although the company promoted the special historic shows, it was always going to be difficult to win over viewers especially with the shows being aired on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.  I mean, how can WWE compete with the inevitable family board games, post feast naps and endless games of charades that take hold over the festive holiday period!?

But does this all account for the overall decrease in ratings from last year?  Numbers don’t lie and comparing January and February’s digits to those of last year may reveal if WWE have lost out in 2017.

  • Mixed Match Challenge Reveals Potential Spoiler For Clash Of Champions

Mixed Match Challenge Reveals Potential Spoiler For Clash Of Champions

WWE made two big announcements during the week which have ground breaking implications across the whole of the company, with careers on the line… or possibly not…

The first announcement came on SmackDown Live:

The second came in the form of WWE’s twitter account:

    Notice anything?

Sami Zayn features in both.  But how can Zayn feature in the Mixed Match Challenge, which airs on Facebook in January, if he’s fighting for his career in WWE at Clash of Champions?

There are a few points to bring up here.  The first is: of course Sami Zayn won’t lose his job, well not permanently.  It is possible that he loses and is brought back in some creative plot twist that leaves the WWE Universe both aghast and annoyed at the same time.  The frustrating part of the Mixed Match Challenge tweet is that it’s an oversight which potentially destroys the kayfabe aspect of the match.

The second point to bring up is the fact that the Mixed Match Challenge tweet was released after SmackDown Live, therefore anyone working behind the advertising/social media campaign could have swapped out Sami Zayn for another competitor.  This heavily suggests that Sami Zayn won’t be losing anything in the long run.

The final point to consider is the specific wording of the Clash of Champions match.

If Zayn and Owens Lose, then They Are fired from all of wwe

This looks at the tweet from the other side of the argument.  It makes sense that they should be working as per normal up until this match.  Therefore the advertising for the new Facebook challenge shouldn’t be affected, with Zayn being removed at a later date if he lost.

Overall, there are two ways of interpreting this clash of information.  You could see it as a mistake and a spoiler for the upcoming PPV.  Or you could interpret this as showing just how much Sami Zayn could lose on Sunday if he were to fall.

    Opinion:

I think this is a mistake by WWE, but they could make the most out of it by framing it as presented above.  My heart says Zayn isn’t leaving, but my head says that WWE will mess with the crossover between kayfabe and reality.

  • WWE Superstars Support Viral Anti-Bullying Video

WWE, and its superstars, have a variety of initiatives and charities that they support and raise money/awareness for.  However on this occasion, individual personalities have caught on to a viral anti-bullying video that features Keaton Jones:

Jones, who is from Knoxville Tennessee, questions the reasons for bullying in a heartfelt message that was recorded by his mother.  Since then, the video has hit social media and gone viral with over 37 million views.

While it has gathered support and acknowledgement from many celebrities across the globe, including Captain America and Luke Skywalker, WWE superstars have offered their voice and support to Keaton as well:

    https://twitter.com/ChrisEvans/status/939976020479938562

    https://twitter.com/FightOwensFight/status/939947180860854272

WWE highlighted the tweets that their superstars put out, as well as their own campaign that was started earlier in the year:

WWE encourages children to treat one another with respect through its Be a STAR campaign. In 2017, WWE started a new collaboration with Boys & Girls Clubs of America and the Yale Center for Emotional Intelligence to bring a revamped Be a STAR curriculum to all Boys & Girls Clubs across the United States. For more information, visit WWECommunity.com.

    Opinion:

While their in ring personalities display anger, jealousy, arrogance, as well as many other negative attitudes, it’s important to remember that this is sports entertainment; and while most adults will be able to discern between what is real and not, a younger audience may assume that acting like Kevin Owens or Baron Corbin is OK.  Therefore it’s vital that superstars support videos and examples like Keaton Jones, promoting positive well-being by breaking kayfabe on social media to do so.

  • UpUpDownDown Madden & FIFA Tournament Latest (Video)

UpUpDownDown Madden & FIFA Tournament Latest (Video)

Austin Creed has continued to develop his video-game YouTube channel with the latest matches in the 2018 FIFA and Madden tournaments.  While Luke Harper showed promise in previous rounds, Kofi Kingston cemented his place in the SmackDown Live final against AJ Styles.

Early on in the match Kofi looked to get underneath the skin of Styles, who has a history of volatile outbursts.  However AJ explained that he wasn’t going to become frustrated because he was playing “one of the greatest gamers”.

Unfortunately, AJ Styles’ modesty did not help him.  In fact, if this were last year’s tournament, AJ would have fallen victim to the mercy rule as he trailed 24-0 at one point during the match!  To the disappointment of Kofi Kingston, no controllers were thrown, which leads me to think that AJ’s skill lies in his aggressive approach; perhaps AJ should return to his brooding heel roots that saw him reach the final of last year’s tournament.

Elsewhere, the FIFA tournament continued with Grizzle Gary taking on The Dangler…?  Or in normal terms: just Sheamus vs Fandango.

With 3/4 of the semi finalists competitors from the U.K. it seemed as though the tournament would be dominated by the Brits; but Apollo Crews had something to say about that as he took on Two Feet (Finn Balor) in the first of the semi finals.

The next matches will feature Sheamus VS Noam Dar, with the winner going on to face Apollo Crews in the final.

The final of RAW’s Madden tournament is between Curtis Axel and Jason Jordan, with a prize of facing Kofi Kingston in the grand-final.

  • WWE Releases 10-Hour YouTube Video Of Woken Matt Laughing

WWE Releases 10-Hour YouTube Video Of Woken Matt Laughing

The taped promo shown on RAW last Monday has sparked a resurgence in both Matt Hardy and Bray Wyatt.  The two WWE superstars appear perfect for each other as they bounce their insane personalities and gimmicks off each other.

What’s fantastic is the apparent freedom Matt Hardy has with his new WWE persona which he previously portrayed outside the company.  It also looks as though WWE are willing to allow “Woken” Matt Hardy to take over their YouTube channel, which is a promising sign as the previous “Broken” gimmick became so successful due to promos and videos that Hardy put together.

The latest video follows suit in terms of insanity levels as the WWE YouTube channel released a video entitled: “Woken Matt Hardy laughs for 10 hours straight”

And it is just as creepy and awkward (in a good way) as you’d expect.

Pro Tip: Some people like to play ‘nature sounds’ as they’re drifting to sleep. Waves crashing. Birds chirping. Load up this video tonight as you’re going to bed and if you get a good night’s rest.

    Opinion:

WWE and Matt Hardy are doing the right thing by releasing a video of this quality.  To make the most of the opportunity in front of them, they need dive headfirst with this and allow House Hardy to do whatever they want, and this is a great step forward.

  • 5 Superstars Who Would Most Benefit From Switching Brands

5 Superstars Who Would Most Benefit From Switching Brands

WWE has previously stated that it will not be holding any further “Superstar Shake-ups” or brand trades in 2017.  However, after Survivor Series, the RAW roster was told to be prepared to move brands and change things around.

Alexa Bliss and Charlotte appear to have been most successful after their moves earlier in the year, as they have become Champions of both brands.  While on the other side of the coin, Heath Slater and Rhyno have been the least successful and hardly appear on taped shows anymore.

With this in mind, who could WWE look to move around to make the most out of all opportunities available?  Here is a list of 5 Superstars who could benefit from switching brands.

    Breezango

Ok, I admit, this should actually be 6 Superstars who could benefit from switch brands, but I’m counting Breezango as 1.  Anyway.

There was a moment when Breezango could have been something more than a comedy duo.  However, their efforts have resulted in a spat of tag team title loses, and some backstage parody videos.  Breezango are very entertaining and could look to explore YouTube, but as WWE superstars they need a fresh start to rekindle a genuine title opportunity or some entertaining in-ring action.

The perfect way of doing this, while continuing the Fashion Police gimmick, is to switch brands and explore the world of RAW.  The other bonus with this pick comes in the form of RAW’s lack of tag team partnerships compared to SmackDown Live – no one would need to move over to replace them if Breezango left because Rusev & Aiden English have just been added to the tag team title scene, alongside the return of Rowan & Harper (The Bludgeon Brothers).

    Jeff Hardy

When it comes to Matt and Jeff Hardy, the WWE Universe knows that Jeff is more valuable and has greater longevity than Matt.  It’s great that Matt Hardy has finally been able to reveal his Broken gimmick to WWE, but the greatest potential comes in the form of Jeff Hardy and his road to gaining the WWE Championship again.

Jeff is currently injured and is unlikely to return before WrestleMania 34, therefore WWE has a great opportunity to move Jeff across to the SmackDown Live brand without anyone knowing, enabling them to make a surprise or shock return for him.

The other route for Jeff is to have him retrun as Brother Nero, but to make the Broken gimmick last, Matt surely needs to adventure on a quest to seek out his lost brother.

    Bayley

If WWE created a Women’s Tag Team Division, Bayley would be perfect with Sasha Banks; however this isn’t the case and she has become lost while Alexa Bliss dominates.

What’s the reason to move Bayley rather than anyone else?  It’s too soon, and currently unbalanced to have Nia Jax and Tamina in the same brand, while others like Alicia Fox wouldn’t have an impact by moving brands.  There is an argument for moving Sasha Banks instead but I think Bayley would be a better fit overall.  If this was to be a swap rather than a move, Becky Lynch or Naomi seem to work best as replacements for Bayley on RAW.

The main question/problem to think about is: Who will defeat Asuka?  Once The Empress of Tomorrow becomes RAW Champion, her reign and undefeated run will surely come to an end, but when and who?  The issue RAW faces is the competition between Alexa, Paige and Asuka; all three women are worthy title holders and look to present themselves as invincible.  This is yet another reason why Bayley would benefit from moving from the over-crowded RAW roster.

    Big Cass

Much like Jeff Hardy, a move for Big Cass to SmackDown Live could be made without anyone noticing while he recovers from a torn ACL.

There are two main arguments for switching Big Cass over to SmackDown Live:  Firstly, it would distance himself from Enzo Amore who features on RAW as part of 205 Live.  Secondly Big Cass would be closer to his partner – Carmella.  This would benefit WWE, Big Cass and Carmella, as well as the rest of the WWE Universe.  Win, win, win?

While there is a lot of negativity around tearing an ACL, the words “career ending” can be thrown about, Big Cass appears to be recovering well and, with the help of WWE, could make his return after injury into a huge dominant challenge for the US title.  If Baron Corbin is still champion, that’s one match that I can genuinely see working for both parties.

    Randy Orton

Randy Orton (Photo credit: @WWE Instagram)

It’s not that Randy Orton would significantly benefit from being moved to RAW, but WWE as a whole could benefit if they were to move The Viper and change the chemistry among the RAW superstars.

Randy has reached a point where he has feuded or come face-to-face with most superstars on SmackDown Live; he is currently being used as the SmackDown Live muscle, dealing with KO and Sami Zayn.  He could easily continue in this fashion on Team Blue and that would be fine.

But there is more potential for him if he were to move over to RAW, especially if Brock Lesnar loses the Universal Title to Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 34.

In the meantime, Randy Orton vs Samoa Joe/Braun Strowman/Seth Rollins/Roman Reigns/Finn Balor – these all contain potential feuds that could easily run for numerous weeks while maintaining good ratings.  That’s why it would benefit WWE more than Randy Orton.

Orton already knows that he’s one of the greatest WWE superstars, he doesn’t need to prove that, he’s the perfect guy to bring over to RAW to freshen up the whole locker room, without even doing very much.

  • WWE Superstars Set To Feature On Historic RAW Episode

WWE Superstars Set To Feature On Historic RAW Episode

WWE RAW is set to celebrate it’s 25th anniversary in January 2018.  The landmark occasion will feature Superstars from SmackDown Live and RAW, as well as “special appearances by WWE Legends The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Kevin Nash, among others”

However there are 2 live shows of historic significance before the 25th anniversary.  For the first time in it’s history, RAW is set to air on Christmas Day and New Year’s Day.

Many speculate that The Undertaker will feature on the Christmas Day episode as well as the 25th Anniversary special.  While that is just a rumour by fans, WWE have announced the superstars that will make an appearance in Chicago.

Alongside the likes of The Shield, Kurt Angle, Alexa Bliss, The Bar, Kane, Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, Finn Balor and Bray Wyatt, two others have been revealed to feature.

The first is John Cena, who last appeared as part of the SmackDown Live Survivor Series team that lost to RAW.

Cena is speculated to make an announcement about his participation at 2018’s Royal Rumble, or at least set up a feud to see him into WrestleMania 34.  The second superstar who is set to feature is The Miz.

The Miz had previously lost his Intercontinental Championship to Roman Reigns, before leaving to fulfill his commitments to latest Marine film with Becky Lynch and Shaun Michaels.  The Christmas Day episode of RAW could see The Miz claim his rematch clause against Reigns, but no plans have been revealed as of yet.

    Opinion:

It seems a little pointless for The Miz to claim his rematch on Christmas Day as he is still filming the latest Marine movie.  Therefore, if he did claim his rematch, it’s quite obvious that he would not be gaining the title.  He could make his intentions clear for the future, like John Cena might, but it’s also important to remember that The Miz is due to become a father which will impact on commitments and priorities.

  • Rich Swann Arrested

    Rich Swann Arrested

205 Live has been under the control of Enzo Amore and the ‘Zo Train since he retained his title against Kalisto at last month’s Suvivor Series.  Since then the divided division has been trying to figure out who is next to challenge Amore for the Cruiserweight Championship.

The next episode of RAW is scheduled to have Drew Gulak take on Rich Swann for the number 1 contender position; however WWE may need to make a change to the schedule as a leading 205 Live superstar has been arrested for “Battery” and “Kidnap – False Imprisonment: Adult”.

The source comes from mugshotsgainsville.com which holds records of anyone that has been taken into custody by the local law enforcement.  It is believed that Rich(ard) Swaan was arrested at approx. 12am Sunday morning.

“The site makes no assumptions or representations about guilt or innocence. People charged with crimes are presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Information on this site should not be used to determine any person’s actual criminal record.”

The site makes this information public for a set amount of time.

“Mug shots are presented chronologically, by booking date, and remain online for a maximum of 90 days.”

As stated above, the source information does not act as evidence of guilt, and should not be taken out of context.  Unfortunately, innocent or not, WWE will not take this press well, especially for the leading face going into a potential title opportunity.

As of writing, no other further details have been made available.

  • UpUpDownDown Features Fifa 18 Tournament (Video)

UpUpDownDown Features Fifa 18 Tournament (Video)

While UpUpDownDown’s main tournament features Madden 18, an alternative tournament has been created for the other sport known as football… you know… the one that is known for using feet and balls… (can you tell I’m English?)

Anyway! All joking aside, Tyler Breeze, Finn Balor, Becky Lynch and Noam Dar make their debut in the new FIFA 18 tournament on UpUpDownDown that also introduces the appropriately named “Backflip Master” – Apollo Crews.

The first match was between Prince Pretty and Two Feet:

While Finn Balor and Tyler Breeze produced a close 1-0 match between Manchester United and Real Madrid, Becky Lynch had to face the experienced Noam Dar as Manchester City VS Ateltico Madrid.

It’s difficult to tell whether Noam Dar is genuine in this video as he constantly looks to engage with “banter”, but it’s also difficult to not enjoy his antics.

    Bonus:

Check out the previous final from the FIFA 17 tournament on UpUpDownDown between Neville and Rusev; they are both outrageously hilarious and worth watching just for their mockery of Austin Creed right at the beginning.

  • NJPW Star Questions Money Driven Superstars

NJPW Star Questions Money Driven Superstars

Among the many talents currently in NJPW, Will Ospreay features as a young British professional wrestler who consistently puts on entertaining and high quality matches outside WWE.

If you’re unaware, check out The Aerial Assassin’s match up against Kushida:

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kI0Sfr9ZODA

In the last few hours though, Ospreay has featured on Twitter with a picture that highlights why he may be able to produce such fantastic spectacles.

Will Ospreay suggests that money isn’t everything in the world of sports entertainment, which comes across as a veiled criticism to those who appear to “sell-out” by joining the number company in professional wrestling – WWE.  Ospreay implies that good wrestling comes from those who are happy, not necessarily rich.

An example of this might be Dolph Ziggler who has recently spoken out about his role in WWE.

Of course The Aerial Assassin isn’t stupid; the tweet is suggestive and extreme general, therefore any connection made is pure speculation, but it’s not too hard for onlookers to connect the dots.

But this doesn’t mean that Will Ospreay won’t eventually move on to the company, it is merely a comment on his lifestyle choices between happiness and money.  He also posted this tweet:

As of writing, there have been no responses by WWE superstars.

If in doubt, check out this playlist that was released by WWE to relive all of her Championship wins; including highlights from the first ever women’s Hell in a Cell match against Sasha Banks, and Charlotte’s win against Nikki Bella that ended a 301 day Diva’s Championship reign.

The Queen of WWE now looks to showcase her other skills by taking on a villain role in Psych: The Move which debuts December 7th on the USA Network.

Charlotte joins the likes of John Cena, The Miz, The Bella Twins, Big Show, Stacy Keibler and Mickie James who have all appeared on the USA Network as well.

  • Updated Card For WWE Clash Of Champions

Updated Card For WWE Clash Of Champions

After Survivor Series, but before January’s Royal Rumble, SmackDown Live hosts Clash of Champions.  The PPV is set to feature title challenges for all 4 Champions.

The WWE Universe is already aware of Jinder Mahal’s announcement last Tuesday to invoke the contractual rematch clause for Clash of Champions, which seemed to make the most sense after he lost his WWE Championship to AJ Styles:

WWE has now released a video of Byron Saxton providing the details for the other 3 title matches at Clash of Champions.

Women’s Champion, Charlotte, is set to take on Natalya, while the US Title and Tag Team Titles are being competed for in triple threat matches.

The Usos have to fend off The New Day, and Chad Gable & Shelton Benjamin who have been pushed as the next tag team to threaten Jimmy and Jey’s reign.  Chad Gable has already won the tag team title with his previous partner, Jason Jordan, as part of American Alpha, and enter the match as the underdogs:

In the final Championship match, Baron Corbin will defend his US title against Dolph Ziggler and Bobby Roode.

Roode has already proven his ability to defeat Ziggler, and goes into the PPV with strong potential.

However, Baron Corbin as a heel champion has the advantage and upper hand.

    Opinion:

Gable and Benjamin seem likely to steal a win, and I think WWE will be looking to start a Roode vs Corbin feud coming out of Clash of Champions.  As always, keep an eye out for Carmella who is still holding on to her Money in The Bank briefcase.  And I expect AJ Styles to win his match, with a speculative Styles vs Nakamura at WrestleMania 34.

  • WWE Superstar Reveals Hatred For Current Role

WWE Superstar Reveals Hatred For Current Role

It’s quite clear to see that Dolph Ziggler has not had the best of times in WWE since fighting for The Intercontinental Championship.  He has been used as the SmackDown Live Welcome Mat for superstars who have moved up from NXT.  Both Shinsuke Nakamura and Bobby Roode have started out against Dolph Ziggler in feuds that have appeared more underwhelming than anything.

Unfortunately for Ziggler, he has come out looking worse in both of these cases.  In fact, his entire in-ring persona is one of apathy, which he has made extremely believable – because it’s genuine.

Dolph has now appeared on The Pod of Awesomeness, hosted by Edge and Christian and has revealed a lot of information about his role and attitude towards the industry.

The interview almost seems therapeutic as Ziggler explains his frame of mind and how he thinks:

“I hate it […] But also I’m someone who, I hate that I’m not the champion. I hate that the show is not about me because that’s the mentality you should have if you’re in the business. If you’re the ‘Hey I want to be the opening guy who works for 10 years and saves a bunch of money,’ (guy) that’s great. But there’s a thousand other guys in the back that say, ‘I want to be the best. I want to main event WrestleMania, I want the show to be about me.’ […] So you have to have that mentality. But also I’ve been around enough to know the score, to know what’s going on. So I hate being in that position. I think I should be a bigger part of the show. But so does everybody else.”

Dolph further explains how he’s made a career out of losing, but how this has had a negative impact on his position and how he is being used in the WWE as a helping hand for those coming up from NXT:

“I see it both ways. Like, I don’t know, I’m not a giant guy so maybe in some other world I would have worked here for a year-and-a-half as a caddie and a cheerleader and then went away. So I see the positive, like, hey, man, I’ve been here for 12 years, almost always regularly on TV but I think at a point that becomes a burden of not going away, of always getting passed over. You get passed over a handful of times for a couple of years then you start to have more of a cult following and it gets hot but after a couple of years of not having the trigger pulled and the 8-year-old kids now know that you’re in that role… I’ve noticed in the last two years that my, even my live event matches are a little hard for me to do my job because when I come out a 10-year-old kid goes “I know you’re losing.” … It’s one thing to have, you know, 40-year-old guys going ‘I know what’s going to happen.’ That’s fine, I’m here to put on a show and we still have fun. But when you get in that role and you miss years of not going with it, it becomes a burden. Now my job of making somebody that should be ready for a world title picture becomes harder and it’s not as much of a shove and if you see the last six months or year of TV basically I am a gatekeeper to the guy from NXT coming up who they have high expectations for but if I lose for eight consecutive months before they show up, they’re no longer getting that pat on the back from me to go up a notch. So I feel like it’s almost taking back from my role.”

He makes a great point, how good does Bobby Roode look if Ziggler has lost most of his previous matches?

In the end, Ziggler is aware of his role in the company and is extremely experienced in what he does.  The revealing interview is either a cry for help from within the company, or a sign that he’s looking to move on and becoming something new.

“So I don’t know what the change would be, to switch things up or disappear here and there or… I’ve said this to the boss on several occasions, I go ‘I’ve made a career out of almost never winning, which is awesome. But at some point I have to be seen as someone who could win, not just like pulling a needle out of a haystick or a lottery ball and finally that being the night because it loses all that luster.  […]  Wins and losses don’t matter unless you’re the guy who loses every single night and if you’re that guy, then you should be maybe in the dark match, you know, not fighting someone to see who goes for the world championship the next night. And even if you do pull that rabbit out of the hat, people know that it’s not long term.”

    Opinion:

It’s also very possible that this is a fantastic publicity stunt before Dolph Ziggler challenges for the US Champion at Clash of Champions.

As always, Austin Creed has been working on his YouTube channel: UpUpDownDown.  The past week has seen 2 major features uploaded for videogame fans to enjoy.  The first is Round 2 of the Madden 18 tournament which sees RAW’s Jason Jordan take on TJ Perkins.

Jordan previously shocked the tournament in one of the most intense, yet hilarious matches as he beat 3 time champion: Seth Rollins.

TJP destroyed the inexperienced Luke Gallows in his last match-up, and demonstrated solid potential as he takes on Jason Jordan: The Champion Slayer.  Check out the game below:

However, the most entertaining video of the week on UpUpDownDown featured Austin Creed himself, and Jimmy Uso in a UFC 2 Championship Title match.  Although there is no current tournament, Creed has used a similar system to any other championship title in UFC or WWE by hosting championship matches with worthy opponents at any time.

Not only was it an excellent display of skill and talent, there were multiple cameos and moments outside the game which make this a must see.  Check out the title match below, as well as a list of highlights.

5 Highlights From Austin Creed vs Jimmy Uso:

    1. This is taking place in a University Volley Ball Court – WHAT!?  That’s dedication.
    2. Kevin Owens makes an appearance, wearing his Face of America brand t-shirt; he then partially remains in character as he removes the American flag background and stands in it’s place.  Everyone else just accepts this and says “Oh, yeah, it’s his thing”.
    3. They’re told to be quiet, and have to continue the game while trying to whisper – which doesn’t go well as Kofi Kingston, Big E, and Jey Uso are there to provide support and commentary.
    4. Sami Zayn appears, topless, and impress Big E with his New Day like dance moves.  If you watch anything from this video, skip to 6:49 just for this!
    5. The in-game fight is ridiculously entertaining and close (without giving spoilers away).
  • Natalya Opens Up On Career Setbacks

Natalya Opens Up On Career Setbacks

In last Tuesday’s SmackDown Live, Natalya took part in a match against Charlotte Flair to regain the Championship that she lost before Survivor Series.  The match saw the introduction of NXT stars Ruby Riot, Liv Morgan, and Sarah Logan to the ring as they interrupted the title match by beating down Natalya and Charlotte.

Since then, Natalya has opened up about setbacks in her career, her current performance and position in WWE as she wrote an inspirational based article for the Calgary Sun.

“Whether it’s an injury, a mistake that was made, or a loss, setbacks happen to every single one of us. I’ve learned that you have to fight through the hard times. Trust that they will pass, because they will pass.”

Natalya goes on to give an example of how a setback enabled her to re-evaluate her position and career to make a positive impact, rather than holding her back.

“Two years ago, I broke my ankle while practising for a match I was about to have on Monday Night Raw. It was the first injury I had ever suffered in my entire WWE career. Not only that, but it happened doing something small and innocuous. I was so mad at myself. I even went into complete denial that I was even injured (that’s how mad I was!) but my ankle was broken.”

While the following video from WWE shows injuries that are portrayed as not breaking kayfabe, it’s used here as an example of how intense and dangerous professional wrestling can be, and how far superstars are willing to go.

“Once I finally saw the break in my ankle on the doctor’s X-Ray, I stopped crying. I got really serious and said to myself: ‘OK. I’ve got this.’ I couldn’t deny I was hurt. I couldn’t turn back the hands of time. I couldn’t go under it, around it or beneath it… I had to simply GO THROUGH IT.”

Natalya also explains that she saw another piece of information from the report on her broken ankle.  She said that she saw her weight, and was shocked by it.  Natalya used the time off to refocus her priorities, development, and career;  she spent as much time as possible in the gym with a personal trainer to transform herself, making the result of a broken ankle add up to an overall positive step forward for her future.

“Fast forward to the present. At SummerSlam, I finally became the Women’s Champion in the WWE, and I did what I set out to do: make history. Last week, I lost my championship in a gruelling match against Charlotte Flair on Smackdown Live.”

“At first, I was sad. I cried. I loved holding that title up high every time I walked to the ring and feeling like the queen of the world! But I draw from my previous experiences with adversity — and trust me, there are so many outside of my broken ankle — and I see the setback of “losing” as an opportunity to chase something again and rediscover that fire inside of me when I wanted something SO much!”

Although Natalya is portrayed as the main heel in the women’s division on SmackDown Live, her article for the Calgary Sun, her hometown, is extremely humbling, inspirational and a positive message for all, not just those in professional wrestling.

“Setbacks can be huge opportunities to grow and evolve and simply BE BETTER.”

  • Other Superstars Should Strive To Be More Like Jinder Mahal: Kane

Other Superstars Should Strive To Be More Like Jinder Mahal: Kane

Former WWE Champion Jinder Mahal has received almost constant criticism from the fans of the WWE Universe.  Many have dubbed his reign as The Jinder Experiment and claimed that it has failed.  It’s hard to disagree when SmackDown Live ratings increase the night Mahal lost the title to AJ Styles.

However Kane has recently shared his opinion on The Modern Day Maharaja as they build up for a tour in India.  Talking to The Times of India, Kane suggested that the WWE Universe should reflect on what Jinder Mahal was before he was cast as The Modern Day Maharaja.

“His is a great story. He was in the WWE years ago, then left company. And then really improved both in his wrestling and his body and came back and became a world champion. I think a guy like Jinder Mahal is really what every WWE superstar should strive to become”

Here’s an example of Jinder Mahal in action back in August 2013.

And here is Jinder Mahal taking on AJ Styles in May 2017.

It’s clear that Mahal has significantly improved since returning, which Kane highlights as a positive, suggesting that other WWE superstars should learn from.  It’s hard to deny the hard work that Jinder has put in, and I am not suggesting that other superstars in WWE aren’t putting in hard work, but Kane could be seen as suggesting that others are under-performing in their own development.

Kane goes on to praise the tour in India and those that are joining the tour of India:

“The India tour is going to be a great event. All big superstars are going be there Triple H, Jinder Mahal, The Shield, Samoa Joe, Cesaro and Sheamus and the match with Strowman, it is going to be a big match; two big guys doing their best to prove who is the dominant big man in the WWE”

Therefore Kane’s suggestion that WWE superstars should strive to be like Jinder Mahal is likely aimed at those struggling in the mid-card.  But the next question would be: who would WWE be keen to push like they did with Mahal?  Perhaps the next Superstar Shake-Up could reveal some clues.

  • Batista Talking To Vince McMahon About WWE Return

Batista Talking To Vince McMahon About WWE Return

Since leaving WWE in 2014, after a short return, Batista has made a big name for himself in Hollywood.  Starring in Guardians of the Galaxy, James Bond, Blade Runner, he has created a successful alternative career.

However, Batista recently featured on The Ross Report and explained that he has been in direct talks with Vince McMahon about returning to a full-time role in WWE, including house shows.

While some may consider this fantastic news, others have suggested that WWE has an age problem that wouldn’t be helped by the returning veteran.  But the last time Batista appeared in 2014, he helped showcase younger talent, in the form of Daniel Bryan, and many are keen to see him do the same with the current rising stars of RAW and SmackDown Live.

The fact that he wants to work fulltime in WWE is an extremely positive endorsement for the company, especially considering the amount of money he would be making in Hollywood as Drax in the upcoming Avengers movie.  Furthermore, Batista wouldn’t be able to return in full capacity before the end of any contracted Marvel, or other movie, requirements.

IMDB.com shows no future films of his in pre-production, and only 1 is listed as currently being filmed: IP Man: Cheung Tin Chi.  Once he has completed all press related duties, he would be a free agent within Hollywood, leaving him open to returning to WWE after May 2018.

    Perhaps SummerSlam?

  • The Miz Talks About Daniel Bryan’s Attempts To Return To The Ring

The Miz Talks About Daniel Bryan’s Attempts To Return To The Ring

On Monday The Miz suffered a surprise defeat to Roman Reigns, despite attempts from Shaemus & Cesaro to help.  While The Miz will be absent from RAW to shoot The Marine 6, along with Shawn Michaels and Becky Lynch, he has recently been interviewed by Sports Illustrated.

A short segment of the interview has been edited and added to the Sports Illustrated website as a video.  The question presented to The Miz during this video was centered around whether he could provide any further details on Daniel Bryan’s attempts to be cleared by medical staff to engage in professional wrestling again.

The Miz started out by joking that he’d love to beat up Daniel Bryan again in the WWE ring, but that he isn’t in the loop about any plans for Bryan.  But he added to this in a serious, yet comical manner:

I know his passion is in the WWE ring.  Now whether that’s as general manager or as a professional wrestler, I don’t know his plans. I know he’s working tremendously hard to get back in the WWE ring, and fingers crossed, because I would love to have a match with Daniel Bryan; he’s one of the best in-ring technicians that WWE has ever seen, and I would like to showcase how much better I am than him.

After being pressed again about whether he would be OK with performing with someone who had previously been ruled out with concussion, The Miz explained that if doctors had signed him up to perform in ring, he’s more than willing to kick him around seal the deal with a few Skull Crushing Finales.

I’m not sure Daniel Bryan would let The Miz forget this match though:

    Opinion:

If The Miz and Daniel Bryan can take the chemistry that they had on Talking Smack and turn it into an in-ring performance, that would be fantastically intense.  It’s almost needed as the two constantly clashed and could never move on from the disputes.

But I believe Daniel Bryan will leave WWE as soon as possible if he is unable to be cleared for in-ring action.  The next question would be where he goes after WWE, but that’s for another time.

  • 3 Reasons Why Roman Reigns Is The Right Intercontinental Champion

3 Reasons Why Roman Reigns Is The Right Intercontinental Champion

Since returning from a viral infection, Roman Reigns has been on a roll. After reuniting with his Shield brothers at Survivor Series and defeating The New Day, Reigns became a Grand Slam Champion the following night on RAW when he captured the Intercontinental Championship from 7-time IC Champion The Miz.

Love him or hate him, I think it was a smart move to put the Intercontinental Championship on Reigns at this time. Here are 3 reasons why:

The Miz Had To Legitimately Lose.

The Miz hits the Skull Crushing Finale on Seth Rollins onto a chair on WWE RAW 7/17/17. (Photo Credit: WWE.com)

It has come to light that The Miz will be taking time away from the ring to focus on his acting career as he’ll be working on a new movie.  The main point is that he won’t be around to continue a feud. Therefore, the superstar to take on the Intercontinental Championship needed to be able to legitimately defeat The Miz, as well as The Miztourage or, in this case, Shaemus and Cesaro.

Rollins and Ambrose did not interfere with the match, they just reacted to the actions of The Bar who distracted Roman to allow The Miz enough time to secure his Skull Crushing Finale; this had the added benefit of allowing WWE and Reigns to keep his face persona.

Roman also needed to show that he had the ability to kick out of a pin after Miz’s finishing move, and for it to be believable.  During his title reign, The Miz has used The Skull Crushing Finale to good affect, which usually results in a secured pin.  To give the Intercontinental Championship a clean and fresh start, the superstar to win it from The Miz needed to legitimately and believably defeat The Miz after a Skull Crushing Finale.

There aren’t many faces on the RAW roster, other than Reigns, who would be able to do this.

What Would You Do With Roman Reigns Otherwise?

    Roman Reigns
    Roman Reigns (Photo Credit: WWE.com)

Let’s pretend for a moment that Roman wasn’t pushed and set up to win the Intercontinental Championship, and assume that he’s still scheduled/predicted to face Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania 34.  Who does he work with until then?  Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe, Bray Wyatt, Kane?  Strowman and Joe vs Roman has been done, and Bray Wyatt just can’t win a match at the moment.  Kane could work as a revenge plot for his brother The Undertaker, but Kane and Strowman are currently in a feud together and I’m not sure I’d want to see Kane vs Roman Reigns anyway.

The other option would be to give Roman a shot at Lesnar, but Roman needs to earn that back again as he has dropped down the pecking order since being away.  This would also clash with the projected timeline working up towards the major showdown between these 2 at WrestleMania.

Perhaps he could get involved in the tag-team championship as a member of The Shield?  Except there’s an unfinished feud between The Bar and Reigns’ other Shield partners – Rollins and Ambrose.  It would appear awkward and mismatched to now bring Roman Reigns in as a tag-team champion, especially when Rollins and Ambrose were the founding members that caused this particular reunion.

Without the Intercontinental Championship, Roman wouldn’t be adding anything to the company.  As one of their main figureheads in the ring, he needs a strong purpose and direction, as does The Intercontinental Championship.

Looking After The Future Of The Intercontinental Championship.

The past year has seen The Miz and Dean Ambrose hold the Intercontinental Championship.  While it could be described as stable, some may say that it has been stale, boring and predictable, without competition in recent months.  Dean Ambrose would rely on disqualification to win, while The Miz would rely on outside help from his wife Maryse, or The Miztourage.  Roman Reigns offers a fresh start for the title, which would rely on power and skill rather than alternative/easy ways to win matches.

So although Samoa Joe feuded with Roman Reigns in the last year, and I’ve said that it would be old, adding the IC title now gives value to a new confrontation.  Suddenly The Intercontinental Championship isn’t being fought over among the mid-card.

Throw Finn Balor and Jason Jordan into the mix and there’s a Fatal 4-Way match at the Royal Rumble where Roman doesn’t need to be defeated to lose the championship.  Jason Jordan would then be perfect to open the title back up to the mid-card.

If the title was given to another Superstar, it risks floating around and becoming irrelevant; and with Brock Lesnar not always present, the Intercontinental Championship needs to remain relevant and held by a consistent superstar.  What is Roman Reigns other than consistent?

It is important to remember that Roman Reigns won’t be the last Intercontinental Champion.  In 2001 and 2002 there were 21 Intercontinental Championship reigns.  There have been 9 In the last 2 years.  Roman will come and go, but for now he acts as a solid platform and gateway for the future of the Intercontinental Championship.

Also, let’s remember that Roman has had other titles, and lost all of them.  Therefore he can be beaten, even if WWE make sure that it appears he can’t.

  • A Look Into Potential Storyline Swerves At Survivor Series

A Look Into Potential Storyline Swerves At Survivor Series

RAW and SmackDown Live superstars have been building to one event over the last few weeks – Survivor Series.  While no titles are on the line (on the main card), almost every match holds some form of value or purpose.  However, Survivor Series has seen it’s fair share of surprises and upsets in the past, and there is even more potential for betrayals and interferences on Sunday’s PPV.

With this in mind, here is a guide to Sunday’s card and the potential curve-balls that could drastically change Survivor Series and the WWE Universe.

The first three matches don’t appear to hold much potential for shocks or surprises.  The Kick-Off Show starts with Enzo Amore looking to solidify his Cruiserweight Championship against Kalisto, while The Miz and Baron Corbin face off in the first of the Champion VS Champion inter-brand matches.  The newly crowned RAW Tag Team Champions then take on The Usos, in a match that doesn’t have any evidence or theories to support interference (other than from The Miztourage) or betrayals either.

The following 2 matches host WWE’s RAW and SmackDown Live Women’s Division.  The main surprise for the Women’s 5-on-5 Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match revolves around SmackDown Live’s 5th and final member of their team.  Some rumours suggest a return for Paige, while others have said that Nikki Bella could feature.

However, there is another exciting opportunity for SmackDown Live’s women’s division in the next match, as Alexa Bliss takes on newly crowned champion: Charlotte.  Most predictions see Little Miss Bliss taking the win, which could leave SmackDown Live’s champion open to attack from Carmella – if she were to cash in her Money In The Bank contract.  There will be hints, that audiences could look out for, which will highlight whether Carmella is planning to cash in her opportunity.  The most obvious is if Carmella gets eliminated early in the 5-on-5 Survivor Series match, pointing towards the need to protect her before a cash-in later on.

Much like the first 3 matches, The Shield VS The New Day doesn’t appear to have any obvious, or subtle, surprises or shocks to look out for.  These all came prior to the PPV as the 2 brands battled and built momentum, as well as re-introducing Roman Reigns and The Shield.

The penultimate match, the Men’s 5-on-5 Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match, hosts the potential for three main avenues that WWE creatives could have explored before the PPV.

The first option is to involve Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, betraying their brand by interfering and costing SmackDown Live a win.  The brilliant aspect of this option is that it utilises heat they have picked up inside and outside the ring to develop their characters.

KO and Zayn’s development has been clear as they continue to hold an anti-establishment attitude, ever since Hell In A Cell where Sami turned heel to help Owens defeat Shane McMahon.  This gives the two superstars the perfect motive to cause chaos and create an upset at Survivor Series.

The main issue though is plotting a course for the next steps.  Kevin Owens VS Shane McMahon has already been done, so it’s hard to pinpoint where to go after Sunday, or who they would face at Clash of Champions, The Royal Rumble, or even WrestleMania.

The second and third options for storyline curve-balls in the Men’s Survivor Series match come in the form of Jason Jordan.  Last week’s episode of RAW saw Jordan become injured by the hands of Bray Wyatt, and later replaced with Triple H; despite the pleas and tears from Jordan, RAW team captain Kurt Angle said that he couldn’t risk including his son in the showdown.

It is therefore possible that Jordan appears during the match to seek revenge for his dismissal from the team, going after either Triple H or Kurt Angle.  However an alternate version of events could unfold which sees RAW winning the Survivor Series match, with Kurt Angle as the last remaining superstar.  During the celebration, Jordan could enter the arena to congratulate his dad, only to betray him, with an ironic ankle lock or suplex, to set up a feud for The Royal Rumble or WrestleMania 34.

The final twist that could occur during Sunday’s PPV involves Brock Lesnar, AJ Styles, and Jinder Mahal.  The Modern Day Maharaja has made it more than clear that he shouldn’t be considered an experiment, and that he worked hard to develop as an athlete.  WWE have a good motive to cause an upset and prevent AJ Styles from winning: it would enable the match to end without a clean win which would benefit both brands and superstars.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/BbPYTbVDVkl/?hl=en&taken-by=jindermahal

The main problem with Jinder appearing is the question of what would he gain from it?  Mahal already has a contracted rematch, likely to be at the next SmackDown Live PPV, Clash Of Champions.  The interference would certainly create heat and build a feud to lead up to the title re-match, however it’s not necessary, and it may appear as a wasted opportunity for other superstars.

WWE won’t pass up this opportunity to capture our attention, there is too much potential to have the whole event proceed as planned.  Anything is possible in the WWE Universe…

…but please let Jason Jordan come back and attempt to break Kurt Angle’s ankle!

  • Rejected Championship Plans For James Ellsworth At WrestleMania 34

Rejected Championship Plans For James Ellsworth At WrestleMania 34

With the release of James Ellsworth from WWE, most have speculated about his future within the world of sports entertainment.  Many have suggested that he could easily demand more money when appearing in other promotions, and that he has an open and easy career ahead of him.

However, James McKenna has revealed some outrageous plans for James Ellsworth that were discussed at creative meetings.  The plans, that are reported to have originated from Vince McMahon, would place Ellsworth in a championship match at WrestleMania 34.

    What championship match?

The SmackDown Live Women’s Championship match.

Around the time of Money In The Bank, after James Ellsworth won the first Money In The Bank match for Carmella, Triple H was interviewed on Sky Sports saying: “I wasn’t there, but it doesn’t seem right […] although we are still trying to confirm that James Ellsworth is 100% a man.”

The comment came across as a joke, however the source from James McKenna suggests that Triple H’s interview wasn’t just a joke, but a potential seed for Vince McMahon’s idea – to reveal that James Ellsworth was transgender.

McKenna said that the Chairman and CEO of WWE brought this idea forward and that the creative team had to debate and discuss how it would work.  The whole plan would be for James Ellsworth to eventually feature at WrestleMania 34 to compete with Charlotte (as the champion) for the SmackDown Live Women’s Championship.

WWE have done some pretty weird and offensive things in the past; usually resulting in some form of relationship or feud that results in a wedding and nudity.  But using, or even suggesting, gender transitioning is not only ridiculous, but also insensitive.  Thankfully it was stopped in its tracks well before getting out of hand.

    Unfortunately, these plans weren’t…

You can find the rest of the interview with James McKenna here.

  • WWE Superstars React To Ellsworth Release On Twitter

WWE Superstars React To Ellsworth Release On Twitter

This week saw WWE release yet another superstar from their roster, James Ellsworth.  Whether you were a fan or not, he had memorable moments and added a certain something to the company.

After making the announcement, numerous superstars added their comments to Ellsworth’s release:

    https://twitter.com/ScottDawsonWWE/status/930920041389969408

    https://twitter.com/OfficialTAZ/status/930861323126263826

Most expect James Ellsworth to hit the independent scene as soon as possible.  He became a household name within the WWE Universe and achieved a lot in the time that he had at the company.  It’s also worth considering that this isn’t even the last time he’ll be at WWE; Ellsworth could always sign a new contract a few years down the line to return.  Popular or not, it’s a possibility.

Among all the best wishes, one WWE superstar took the opportunity to make the news a little more self-centered and build some extra heat to his in-ring persona by tweeting a special message to James Ellsworth.

    https://twitter.com/HEELZiggler/status/930926226465636352

However Ziggler followed this up the next day with a Throw Back Thursday tweet showing that it’s not all about him:

    https://twitter.com/HEELZiggler/status/931199944140111873

Many have actually speculated that Ziggler is trying to suggest that he is leaving the company soon as well.  However this is pure speculation and rumour built up around Dolph using the word “independent” in a tweet, but perhaps worth noting.

  • Big Cass Introduced On Total Divas

Big Cass Introduced On Total Divas

On August 21st Big Cass was injured during a Street Fight with Enzo Amore; he tore his ACL and will be sidelines until after Wrestlemania 34.

The video underneath shows the moment that Big Cass tore his ACL on RAW as he went over the ropes and landed awkwardly outside the ring….

Since the injury, Big Cass has had surgery and is attending rigorous rehabilitation to repair his knee, but hasn’t made many promotional appearances for WWE.  However this recently changed as he attended an interview with the Sun Herald to promote WrestleMania 34.

In the interview Big Cass explained his relationship with the fans of WWE and how he felt he was doing within the company.

“It’s very disappointing. I was on quite a roll at the time. The night I got hurt, during a commercial break, I cut a promo and loaded up to the fans. It felt good to have the fans boo me.”

Big Cass also appears on tonight’s episode of Total Divas as the 7 foot tall superstar is dating Carmella, who features in the latest season of the WWE TV show on E! along with Alexa Bliss and Nia Jax.  Here is a preview of Big Cass’s introduction by Carmella:

As filming began for season 7 in June 2017, the timing suggests that Total Divas could cover aspects of Big Cass’s injury, from Carmella’s point of view.  I doubt she’ll be flaunting the Money In The Bank briefcase as much while Big Cass sits sidelined for 6 months.

An important aspect of this is the possibility of an insight behind Big Cass’s in-ring persona.  Since breaking away from Enzo Amore, he has turned heel and consistently booed by the crowd.  This may give fans the opportunity to see a more realistic aspect of Big Cass that has been hidden behind strong characters and gimmicks throughout his WWE career.  His initial introduction to Total Divas comes across as extremely shy and uncomfortable in the preview, but this is probably due to have cameras following him and his girlfriend around all the time.
