Backstage News On Charlotte Winning At HIAC, Her Next Feud

At Sunday’s WWE Hell In A Cell, Charlotte was victorious over Sasha Banks to win back the Women’s Championship in Banks’ hometown of Boston, MA. It was only decided late last week that Charlotte and Banks would be the main event, and that wasn’t the only last-minute change relating to the Women’s Title match.

Dave Meltzer reported on Wrestling Observer Radio on Monday that the original plans for last night’s Women’s Title match called for Sasha to win over Charlotte. Much like the original plans for SummerSlam earlier this year, that finish changed and Charlotte went over Banks instead.

Meltzer noted that Vince McMahon made the call to change the finish. The WWE Chairman reportedly wants to move into a Charlotte vs. Bayley feud sooner than the creative team originally planned for.

Ken Anderson recently opened up about the behind-the-scenes power struggle between Dixie Carter and Billy Corgan in TNA. The former TNA World Champion was interviewed by WhatCulture and explained that he wants what’s best for his friends who still work for TNA, and he thinks what’s best for them is if Billy Corgan takes over the company.

“I just want what’s best for my friends, what’s best for the business. I think Billy Corgan is one of the best things to ever happen to TNA in a long time,” Anderson explained.

The former TNA and WWE star continued and shed some light on his time working with Corgan in TNA, revealing that Corgan worked closely with him on his 2015 TNA storyline with Bram. Anderson applauded Corgan for his creativity.

“I personally loved working with him. He was creative, he allowed me to be creative. He was in charge of the storyline that I had with Bram in TNA,” Anderson said. “We all worked together, and we all contributed to that storyline, and I think that’s the way this business should work; how the creative process should work. • Update On Which Match Will Close Tonight’s WWE Hell In A Cell PPV

Update On Which Match Will Close Tonight’s WWE Hell In A Cell PPV

According to new reports, history will be made tonight in the main event at WWE Hell In A Cell 2016. Despite changing plans and conflicting reports throughout the week, it now appears that Sasha Banks and Charlotte are scheduled to be the final match of the night and close out the pay-per-view.

As previously noted, Dave Meltzer had reported on Wrestling Observer Radio this week that Vince McMahon was cold on the idea of Sasha Banks’ Women’s Title defense headlining the show and put a stop to it. New details emerged today and in a correction first reported by PWInsider.com, Banks and Charlotte are now penciled in as the last match for tonight. If no more changes are made to the order of the card, this will be the first time female wrestlers truly headline a WWE pay-per-view.

For what it’s worth, Meltzer had also reported this week that Triple H was among several WWE staffers who wanted Banks and Charlotte to go on last. There’s no word on what caused Vince to change his mind on the issue, but it’s possible that the WWE Chairman was convinced by his son-in-law.

Hell In A Cell is being advertised by WWE as having a “triple main event.” In addition to the Women’s Title match, Kevin Owens will be defending his Universal Title against Seth Rollins, and Roman Reigns will be defending his U.S. Title against Rusev. Live coverage and discussion starts on SEScoops.com tonight at 7:30 PM ET.

  • Charlotte On Challenges In WWE, Sasha Banks Talks WrestleMania Main Event Aspirations

Charlotte On Challenges In WWE, Sasha Banks Talks WrestleMania Main Event Aspirations

WWE stars Sasha Banks and Charlotte recently took part in a piece for ESPN to promote tonight’s Hell In A Cell pay-per-view. Charlotte opened up about what she thinks the most-challenging part of being on the WWE roster is, and it wasn’t the physicality.

“The hard part for me was not the wrestling — it was showing emotion, telling a story and being able to connect with fans,” she told ESPN. “Coming out as Ric Flair’s daughter and being called athletically gifted, it’s hard to say, “Hey, like me! You can relate to me!” It wasn’t working, so I completely switched my character. I find it easier to pretend to be the person everyone already thinks I am versus being who I am.”

Current RAW Women’s Champion Sasha Banks told ESPN that her title defense as part of tonight’s “triple main event” is a step in the right direction for women in pro wrestling.

“I think once we get a women’s main event at a pay-per-view and you drop “women’s wrestling,” that will prove we are on the same level,” Banks said of gender equality in wrestling. “A couple of years ago we were seen as the popcorn match or the bathroom break for the fans, and that’s not the case anymore.”

Banks reiterated comments she made in a September interview to promote WWE 2K17, saying that she wants to main-event a WrestleMania before she retires. The Women’s Champion says that if it doesn’t happen in her lifetime, she knows she’s helping build the foundation for the next generation of female wrestlers to have a chance at headlining wrestling’s biggest event.

Stephanie McMahon comes out next, and guarantees Jericho will get his list as long as he stays focused and wrestles tonight. Rollins is out next, and reveals that he is the one who stole The List. He says that even Stephanie McMahon is on the list, and claims that Owens is on the list too as Jericho’s “former best-friend.” Jericho says Owens would never be on the list, because the list is only for mutton-heads and stupid idiots like Rollins. Rollins tells Jericho to come get the list, and returns backstage.

    – Stephanie McMahon found Rollins backstage before Jericho could, and demands that Rollins gives Jericho the list because she wants the triple thread match to happen. • Cody Rhodes Explains What Influenced His Stardust Character

Former WWE star Cody Rhodes recently did a promotional interview for his appearance on The CW’s Arrow where he spoke at-length about his former Stardust character. Rhodes left WWE back in May due to creative differences after reportedly “pleading” with the creative team for months to end the Stardust character.

“I think for me, internally, the entire thing was a comic book,” Rhodes said of his approach to playing Stardust. “In terms of psychologically thinking about it, I approached it like a symbiote, like Venom, taking over my initial persona. Especially since I’d wrestled for the prior eight years as myself and here was this drastic departure. I was treating it like this symbiote thing. That’s what I would say to myself in my head.”

The second-generation wrestler says that he also pulled on old Batman characters for inspiration. Rhodes had previously expressed disappointment that WWE fans would remember him as Stardust rather than for what he had done before being given that character.

“Then performance-wise, people know I was just stealing flat out from Frank Gorshin and Jim Carrey’s Riddlers,” Rhodes told IGN. I’d watch the scene where he blew up the Batcave and study how he moved around and just plucked some of that out in certain ways. In my mind, it was a mash-up of different comic book influences. I loved the idea that I had an alter-ego but that my true identity was very well known and very much on the surface. I was the only one who didn’t know who Stardust really was. So it was very much tied to comics. Everything I’ve done. I did a whole run where I’d wear a face mask when I was on SmackDown and that was based on Dr. Doom. Comics and me go way back.”

Since leaving WWE, Rhodes has performed for TNA and Ring of Honor under variations his real name. You can read his entire interview on IGN.com.

  • Jim Ross Speaks On The Undertaker’s Hip Surgery & Brock Lesnar vs. Bill Goldberg

As previously reported, The Undertaker recently underwent a minor hip surgery which is why we’ve been seeing photos of him on crutches. WWE Hall of Famer weighed in on this news in his latest blog entry, assuring fans that the surgery likely won’t effect The Undertaker’s ability to show up at WrestleMania.

“This procedure will have little to no bearing on Taker performing at WM33 in Orlando next April based on what I know,” Ross claimed.

Ross added that he would be surprised if The Deadman doesn’t step in the ring in 2017. The former voice of RAW also talked about the possibility of this being Undertaker’s last WrestleMania performance. The Undertaker has reportedly been telling people for the last few years that he’s planning on wrapping up his career.

“If the next Wrestlemania is Taker’s last one, then one has to assume that WWE will do nothing but capitalize on this golden opportunity market the career and accomplishments of the Undertaker with an historic weekend,” J.R. wrote.

Ross also wrote about Monday’s RAW, featuring the return of Bill Goldberg. J.R. feels that Goldberg’s segment worked “in a major way,” but has reservations about WWE’s plans for the former undefeated WCW Champion at SummerSlam.

“Personally, I would not place Goldberg vs Lesnar last on the card at Survivor Series and I also think that they can tell a solid story in approximately 15 minutes bell to bell,” Ross wrote. “I’m very curious to see the match that I hope fans will be intelligent enough to reserve judgment on until they see the presentation.”

  • AJ Styles Says He Wants Shawn Michaels At Royal Rumble 2017

AJ Styles Says He Wants Shawn Michaels At Royal Rumble 2017

WWE World Champion AJ Styles wants to face the currently-retired Shawn Michaels at Royal Rumble. In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, “The Face That Runs The Place” said he wants Michaels in the Heart-Break Kid’s hometown of San Antonio, TX, where the 2017 Royal Rumble will be hosted.

“I’d love to learn from him, but who’s to say if that’s going to happen,” AJ explained. “Right now, it’s all speculation and rumors that I’m finding out like everyone else is, but man, what a match that would be.”

Styles also addressed Ryback’s story about Vince McMahon wanting Ryback to “squash” Styles at WrestleMania 32. That didn’t end up happening and rather than squashing him, Vince McMahon gave Styles a main event push and eventually the World Championship.

“I think what Ryback said may have been true at that time,” Styles said of Ryback’s story, which would have occurred either before or shortly after his debut.

“I don’t know that Vince knew exactly what he had in AJ Styles, and I think his opinion of me changed somewhat quickly,” explained Styles. “That’s OK, I’ve been doing that my whole life—changing people’s opinion of me and what I’m capable of. I’m not mad at Ryback. If it was said, it was said, and I’m not mad at Vince McMahon. Opinions vary, and they change.

  • Ken Anderson On What Would Happen If WWE Buys TNA, Talent Not Being Paid

Ken Anderson On What Would Happen If WWE Buys TNA, Talent Not Being Paid

Ken Anderson says while his time in TNA was “a blast,” there were almost constant struggles with company management. In a recent conversation with The Interactive Interview, Anderson said that every wrestler on the roster “busted their butts” and performed, and he feels TNA’s problems come solely from management.

“Any problems experienced by the company had nothing to do with the talent. There were times where things were going on behind the scenes where it was a miserable existence,” Anderson said. “Guys were late, maybe 3 months on getting paid. I remember at one time, I was owed for like 30 shows. But, the locker room — Everybody still showed up and put on their happy face. We were there to do a job.”

With TNA facing several lawsuits and the future of the company in question, it’s been reported that WWE has expressed interest in acquiring the company. Anderson says that if WWE does buy TNA, or if TNA “goes away” for any other reason, it will leave a void for fans who want something different. Anderson feels that any potential competitor against WWE should produce an edgier show to fill that void.

“I’ve said this for years and Daivari agrees with me. Everything’s PG now. If somebody comes and makes a program that is geared towards adults, I think wrestling takes off again,” Anderson said “I really do. The idea that men and women go out and fight each other and can’t curse — I’ve never been in a bar fight where there wasn’t 57 curse words slung. […] The most successful shows in the past decade have been extremely edge. Sons of Anarchy, Breaking Bad… Sometimes we insult people’s intelligence. We go for the lowest common denominator.”

AJ Styles says he’s unsure if he would like WWE to buy TNA. In a recent interview with The Phoenix New Times, the “face that runs the place” addressed his former place of employment TNA’s questionable future.

“I don’t know. I think that I would love for them (TNA wrestlers) to be them and us to be us,” AJ said of the possibility of WWE acquiring TNA’s roster. “Competition’s a good thing and to see some of my friends maybe losing their jobs, that’s never good. So I would love to see them continue to exist and do so.”

In an interview earlier this week, Styles said we’ll have to be patient to see him in the ring with Shinsuke Nakamura again. When the Phoenix New Times asked about the possibility of defending his World Championship against Nakamura, Styles says Nakamura has a long way to go.

“I think Shinsuke Nakamura’s going to have to work his way up to where I am. I don’t have to work myself to where he is,” Styles said. “I’m the world heavyweight champion. So if he wants a piece of AJ Styles and can find a way of getting onto the SmackDown roster, he can come and get some. It may sound cliché, but he don’t want none. But, would people like to see that matchup? Absolutely. And I would love to give it to them.”

AJ also noted that he would love to see WWE sign The Young Bucks and Kenny Omega. You can read the entire interview here.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7endf6T_iHA

It was extensively reported this week by David Bixenspan that TNA currently owes money to several different parties. Billy Corgan, Audience of One Productions, Aroluxe Media, Anthem Sports, and MCC Acquisitions all say TNA owes them substantial amounts of money.

According to a report from Nate Rau of the Tennessean newspaper, the total amount TNA officially owes to Aroluxe, Anthem, and MCC is listed at $3.4 million. That doesn’t include any money owed to Billy Corgan, Audience of One Productions, or the state of Tennessee.

News hit the web this week that Corgan and Audience of One Productions both filed lawsuits against the company. David Bixenpsan exclusively reported on Thursday that Dixie Carter also personally owes money to Billy Corgan, and on Friday reported that TNA is facing a tax lien in Tennessee.

  • Bill DeMott Speaks On Working With Triple H, Kevin Owens On RAW, Tough Enough

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EvsTJNyEhFA

Former WWE performer and trainer Bill DeMott recently took part in an interview with PlanetaWrestling where he names his time working with Triple H in NXT as the greatest time in his career. DeMott feels that working with the talent in NXT was his greatest accomplishment.

“There is no denying what [Triple H] and NXT are doing is successful,” DeMott said

Demott was a trainer for the third season of WWE’s Tough Enough reality show back in 2002, and ended up landing head trainer positions at several developmental territories. DeMott was a trainer on Tough Enough during the seasons that brought us John Morrison, The Miz, and Ryback.

“I was so grateful for the first opportunity to coach on Tough Enough, it turned into the biggest part of my career and I was part of the most successful shows WWE ever did,” DeMott said. “I am truly proud of everyone that competed, because win or lose I spent every day with them and know what they went through.”

DeMott was the head coach of NXT while Kevin Owens, Sami Zayn, and Neville were all there, and says they are changing the face of the industry now on the WWE roster. He says he’s particularly proud of those three, and gets a “nervous energy” when he sees how well they’re doing on TV.

DeMott resigned from WWE in March of 2015 following accusations of misconduct and abuse by several ex-trainees. DeMott denies the allegations.

  • Report On Billy Corgan’s Lawsuit Against TNA: “There’s Fraud Involved”

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7mQkNSXF37c

A number of lawsuits against TNA came to light this week including one filed by Billy Corgan, as was extensively covered by David Bixenspan. Corgan had funded some television tapings this year under the belief that he would be buying the company, but Dixie ended up not selling to him. The lawsuit was filed after Corgan asked for his money back since Dixie wouldn’t sell to him, and they didn’t pay.

In an update on this from Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer reports that “there’s fraud involved in the lawsuit,” in addition to the money owed.

“[Billy Corgan] not being told of certain financial things and information withheld by Dixie Carter to Corgan that he should have known,” Meltzer said.

There’s a preliminary hearing scheduled for next week in Nashville and the lawsuit may be unsealed. Impact was almost pulled from Pop TV this week due to a music clearance issue, and the show was their least-viewed episode since the company’s early days on Fox Sports 1.

  • Seth Rollins On Why He Uses Triple H’s Finisher, Wants Match With Samoa Joe

Seth Rollins On Why He Uses Triple H’s Finisher, Wants Match With Samoa Joe

Seth Rollins did a live Q&A on Facebook on Thursday night and talked about using the move Triple H made famous for his finisher. Rollins said that he started using The Pedigree as a tribute to Triple H, but now his character uses it to spite The Game. Rollins (in-character) also took the opportunity to take a few personal shots at the 14-time World Champion.

“He thinks he can stick it to me by anointing Kevin Owens as the new guy? There is no replacement for Seth Rollins,” he said. “So, every single pedigree from now until I drop Triple H on his big, stupid nose, that’s gonna mean something, that’s gonna mean something. That’s me sticking it to the man, sticking it to Triple H. So no, no new finisher, not until I’m done with Triple H.”

On his plans for the future, Rollins says he’d like to face Samoa Joe at some point. Rollins says that he and Joe have grown as performers since their matches prior to joining WWE, and thinks they would “tear the house down” now.

“It’s been a long time since I’ve been in the ring with Joe,” he said. “I think we’ve both grown a lot as performers, and I think we’d actually tear the house down. Hopefully once Joe’s done with his stuff in NXT he can come make his way up here and we can have a good fight.”

  • Sheamus Says His Last World Title Run Was Cut Too Short, Talks Daniel Bryan & Cesaro

Sheamus Says His Last World Title Run Was Cut Too Short, Talks Daniel Bryan & Cesaro

Former WWE World Champion Sheamus recently sat down with The Mirror in the UK to promote the RAW brand, and revealed his two favorite opponents so far in WWE since his 2009 debut. Sheamus says that he loved his best-of-seven series with Cesaro, and the only other person who was “as physical” as Cesaro was current SmackDown personality Daniel Bryan.

“We wrestled a ton of times, on TV and off TV,” Sheamus said of Cesaro. “I love wrestling him. The competition between me and him is great. It’s been an interesting couple of weeks since Mick Foley put us together as a team. We’ve had a lot of fun.”

Regarding the WWE World Championship or Universal Championship, Sheamus says he’s “done all that sort of stuff,” and is now exploring his character more in the tag team division. Sheamus said his run in the League of Nations didn’t give him a chance to delve into his character or bounce off each other, which he feels he’s doing with Cesaro now.

Sheamus’ last WWE World Title run lasted 22 days, and he lost the belt to Roman Reigns. Sheamus feels that he was doing a good job as a heel by getting the fans to stop booing Reigns, and at the time thought he had more life in his World Title run.

“Do I feel like I could have gone a lot longer with this? Absolutely, I kind of felt like my legs were cut from underneath me,” he told the Mirror. “To be honest. I felt like I was really starting to get some steam, to get some momentum. But ultimately my job was to get Roman back to where he needed to be with the fans behind him and as a heel I was able to do that. Which was for me I guess a special moment.”

It’s been a week full of bad news for TNA, and it’s not over yet. This week’s episode of Impact Wrestling was watched by 284,000 viewers, which makes it the least-watched show since moving to Pop TV. In fact, this may be the least-watch episode since the company’s early days on Fox Sports 1.

Thursday nights episode placed at #146 on the Cable Top 150 rankings for the night on ShowbuzzDaily.

Impact Wrestling switched from Tuesday nights to Thursday nights on Pop TV in an effort to avoid head-to-head competition with SmackDown, and regain some of their old Thursday night viewership.
