  • Mark Henry Speaks On His Diminished Role In WWE, Reactions To His Fake Retirement

WWE star Mark Henry is currently making the rounds to promote their upcoming video game WWE 2K17. In one recent promotional interview for the game, Henry addressed the issue of his television time being diminished. Henry says that he’s happy in his current role in the company, and seems optimistic about his future there.

“My role is, a lot of times, behind the camera,” Henry said. “We’ll be seeing what happens here in a little bit, I think everybody will be pleasantly surprised.”

As far as retirement goes, he says he hopes to go out with an “honorable death,” but isn’t sure who he would want his final opponent to be. One of the most memorable career highlights for Henry was his fake retirement segment with John Cena in the Summer of 2013. Henry says that angle is so popular that he still hears people referring to fake retirements as “a Mark Henry.”

“I didn’t think it would be to that degree,” Henry said of the reaction to his 2013 fake retirement. “I had professional athletes and wrestlers that I had never met before call, I don’t know how people go my number, but I guess they felt it was safe for that person to call me and say ‘hey man, you had a great career, and an even better jacket.’ I guess the The Big Show was probably the best. He left me a voice message saying that he was gonna kill me, that he was sitting on the couch with his wife crying, and ‘that’s how you do me. You used me and that’s how you use my feeling’ and I was like ‘ahh, my bad’.”

Mark Henry also talks about his favorite wrestlers to come from NXT in the full interview, which you can watch here.

  • Ric Flair Says Charlotte Has Something Big Planned For Hell In A Cell

In a recent interview with Sports Illustrated, Ric Flair says that his daughter Charlotte has moves we’ve never seen before to debut in her upcoming Hell In A Cell match against Sasha Banks. The 16-time World Champion says Charlotte isn’t afraid of anything and plans on making a statement at the pay-per-view.

“There is no talking her out of it. You didn’t see me do any moonsaults off the top of a cage, but she has something really special in mind for the cage,” Flair said.

The Nature Boy also indicates that he feels Charlotte’s performances have improved since she fired him on-air. Another change since Flair left TV is that SmackDown now airs live, which he says makes the show better.

“The pressure of being on live TV is good for you,” said Flair. “It takes you a while to get used to it, but she’s got it down now. The fact that both shows are live makes the product better because the people have got to be on top of it. There is no margin for error, and she’s responded to that pressure. No one gets it on day one, but ever since she’s fired ‘The Man,’ she’s had it going on.”

You can read Flair’s entire interview at SI.com. Hell In A Cell 2016 takes place on October 30th at the TD Garden in Boston, MA, with live coverage & discussion here on SEScoops.com at 7:30 PM ET.

  • AJ Styles Says We’ll Have To Be Patient For Samoa Joe & Nakamura Rematches, Talks Being Champ

AJ Styles Says We’ll Have To Be Patient For Samoa Joe & Nakamura Rematches, Talks Being Champ

During a recent promotional interview for WWE 2K17 on ESPN, AJ Styles says he’s excited about the possibility of facing his previous opponents Samoa Joe and Shinsuke Nakamura inside a WWE ring. Styles had several acclaimed matches outside of WWE with both Joe and Nakamura, and says he “absolutely” wants to face them again. AJ added that Joe is the kind of talent who can “make a difference” on a show.

“I mean, the chemistry I have with both those guys, and other guys that are coming up through NXT or a part of NXT, it’s kind of one of those things where you can’t rush it,” AJ said. “But all this stuff is gonna eventually happen. We just have to be patient.”

Styles captured his first WWE World Championship in September at Backlash, and says that’s the kind of recognition he worked for. Styles had won championships elsewhere, but feels that being recognized by WWE means a lot more.

“It’s huge,” AJ said. “It’s nice to know that the hard work that you’ve put in all these years is finally getting the, I don’t want to say praise, but you know. I busted my tail for so long, I’m just glad it’s getting recognized now as part of the WWE. Because let’s face it, the WWE is the biggest company out there when it comes to wrestling. I’m just happy that I’m being recognized as somebody who works hard, I guess.”

  • Note On Kane’s Disappearance On SmackDown

One of the oldest tricks in pro wrestling is hiding a wrestler under the ring. WWE used this effect during the Randy Orton & Kane vs. Bray Wyatt & Luke Harper tag match Tuesday’s SmackDown. During the match the lights cut out, and when they came back on Kane had disappeared from the ring apron.

We received several live reports from sharp-eyed fans who were in attendance at SmackDown who noted that Kane didn’t stay hidden under the ring very long. Fans in attendance noted that after SmackDown went off the air, the lights in the arena went out again for several seconds. During this time, Kane rolled out from under the ring and ran to the back. It’s unknown if WWE will continue a storyline based on Kane’s disappearance during the match.

The lights came back on as Kane was arriving in the back, and WWE taped an episode of Main Event after SmackDown.

‘Taker hasn’t appeared on WWE television since defeating Shane McMahon at WrestleMania 32 back in April. He’s been reportedly telling people backstage at WWE events for the last several years that he plans on retiring, but he hasn’t officially yet. • Backstage News On Goldberg’s WWE Return

Backstage News On Goldberg’s WWE Return

As announced earlier this will, Bill Goldberg will be making his first live WWE television appearance in over a decade on Monday’s RAW from Denver, CO. Golberg will be there to address the challenge laid out by Paul Heyman on behalf of his client, Brock Lesnar.

The latest update (via the Wrestling Observer Newsletter) states that Goldberg camp negotiated with WWE for approximately three weeks before the deal was finalized. It’s worth noting TMZ first reported back in August that the two sides were discussing a return. According to Dave Meltzer, Goldberg has only agreed to one match, scheduled for Survivor Series.

Goldberg’s last pro wrestling match was against Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XX in New York City. He’s made a handful of independent appearances since then, but this will be his first full-length match since 2004.

  • Update On The Future Of TNA, Talent Wants Billy Corgan Leading The Company

Update On The Future Of TNA, Talent Wants Billy Corgan Leading The Company

While Billy Corgan had the final creatively at the last set of TNA TV tapings, Dixie Carter remains the majority shareholder of the company. Executives from The Fight Network were also backstage to meet with Carter, as they are also company shareholders. Dixie left before the end of the tapings.

According to the latest issue of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, there is a lot of frustration among company employees and wrestlers due to the extended state of ownership limbo. TNA still reportedly owes a significant amount of money to some of their performers. There is also heat on Dixie Carter for the perception that she’s handling things badly and causing deals to fall apart.

According to the Observer, things are heated behind-the-scenes between Dixie Carter and potential buyers Billy Corgan and Aroluxe Marketing. It now appears that Aroluxe may be the most-likely buyer.

There’s currently no word on who funded the previous set of tapings. It wasn’t WWE, and WWE is reportedly no longer in talks to purchase the company.

  • Ryback Shoots On Steroids & Brock Lesnar: Part-Timers Need To Be Tested

Outspoken former WWE star Ryback recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio where he discussed steroids and the highly-anticipated rematch between Brock Lesnar and Goldberg.

During the interview, Ryback admits to experimenting with steroids early on in his caeer. Ryback says he hasn’t used them in some time and is proud of what he’s achieved with his body “naturally.” He says he isn’t taking any kinds of PEDs, and could pass testing for something like an MMA fight. Ryback noted that he’s working on his own line of nutritional supplements.

When asked about Goldberg vs. Lesnar, Ryback said that he thinks he should be the one to face Goldberg. Ryback says he grew up watching Goldberg and is a huge fan of the former WCW Champion. Ryback says that fans already saw Goldberg vs. Lesnar 13 years ago, and that the current generation would rather see him and Goldberg mix it up.

Ryback made it clear that the thinks Lesnar, Goldberg, and any other part-time performers should be tested just like the full-time performers. “Anyone who steps foot in a WWE ring, whether it’s one a year or 300 days a year, should be f**king tested,” Ryback said.

  • Update On RAW’s Cruiserweight Division & Vince McMahon’s Involvement

Update On RAW’s Cruiserweight Division & Vince McMahon’s Involvement

WWE used to weigh their competitors during the Cruiserweight Classic to keep them under the 205 pound weight limit, but the company is no longer doing that on RAW. It’s unknown if WWE will maintain the strict weight limit going forward. Some fans noted that Brian Kendrick was billed as 150 pounds during the CWC, but has been billed at 170 pounds on RAW. Sin Cara was previously billed as 205, but during his cruiserweight tag match on RAW he was billed as 198.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter speculated that Vince McMahon may be behind the slight changes to the cruiserweight division. The WWE Chairman had very little to do with the CWC, but obviously is overseeing the division on RAW.

Noam Dar was backstage at Monday’s RAW, but there’s no word on when he will make his TV debut.

  • Jim Ross Speaks On World Title Match Going First At No Mercy 2016

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross he has no issues with No Mercy starting off with the World Championship match as he believes it would have lost viewers by going going head-to-head against the U.S. Presidential Debate. If the World Title match were in it’s usual main event slot, Ross feels many screens would have switched to the debate by then In his latest blog entry, J.R. says the storyline between AJ Styles, John Cena, and Dean Ambrose was “better ‘booked” than most” angles in wrestling, and thinks WWE protected the value of the Title belt.

“Not sure that AJ needed to use the chair, but so be it,” Ross wrote of Styles’ World Title defense at No Mercy. “Considering that AJ is being positioned as a villain, I understand the use of the chair but IMO the ticket buyers want to cheer Styles and will continue to do so most likely. The triple threat match had some stellar moments and the conclusion of the match was creative as the most popular guy in the match, according to the live audience reaction, cheated to win. Loved the work ethic of all three men in this opening salvo.”

J.R. says Dolph Ziggler defeating The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship was the match of the night, and could have headlined the show.

“Who knew that the IC title match would be the career best for both men?,” Ross wrote. “Hindsight is 20/20 but congrats to Dolph and Mike for busting their ass, telling a good story and for selling! The IC Title match was the Show Stealer!!”

  • Ric Flair: Dixie Carter Started WWE Rumors To Drive Up TNA Sale Price

On the 13th episode of The Ric Flair Show, the Nature Boy tackled several subjects relating to the impending sale of TNA. Flair is of the belief that Dixie Carter may have spread the rumor that WWE was interested in buying TNA to drive the price up. Flair says that while they could get some use out of TNA’s content library, he doesn’t see WWE purchasing the company.

“I think that that’s a rumor that Dixie Carter put out to try and raise the ante,” Flair theorized. “Yep. I don’t see them doing that and I’m sure they’d like to have the library, but, I mean, there isn’t a lot to buy. And I’m not saying there’s not talent there. NXT, they’ve got a ton of kids in NXT right now that are all chomping at the bit to come up, so anybody that they acquire from TNA would probably just go over to NXT for a while and it’s just a lot of people.”

As far as talent that could move over from TNA to WWE, Flair indicated that he would like to see “Broken” Matt Hardy and Brother Nero return to their old stomping grounds. Flair believes the Hardy brothers could bring a lot to WWE television. He says he “keeps hearing a rumor” that they’re heading back to WWE, and that the two of them have been “looking like a million bucks” lately.

The Latest On Becky Lynch’s Status For WWE No Mercy Tonight

As previously noted, Becky Lynch has been pulled from her match at WWE No Mercy tonight due to an unnamed injury. To update on this, it sounds like Becky may still appear on the show, but won’t wrestle. Lynch may show up to film a segment explaining her match being cancelled, similar to what happened last month when Randy Orton was pulled from his match against Bray Wyatt at Backlash.

The news of Lynch’s injury was first reported by former WWE employee James McKenna. On this morning’s edition of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that Lynch won’t be wrestling due to an undisclosed health issue. He says it’s nothing serious, and she’s not expected to miss serious time.

WWE has yet to make any announcement about Lynch’s health or the match. No Mercy takes place tonight at the Golden 1 Center in Sacramento, CA.

  • WWE Producing DVD Set About Diamond Dallas Page

Former WCW World Champion Diamond Dallas Page will be the subject of an upcoming DVD and Blu-ray set from WWE. This will be DDP’s first superstar-themed DVD.

There’s no word yet on the exact format of the release, but it’s expected to cover DDP’s in-ring career and his yoga career. The set will likely include lots of new interview footage with former WCW stars. DDP has filmed a lot of interviews for WWE in recent years, while working on his DDP Yoga brand and the rehabilitation of Jake Roberts and Scott Hall.

The currently-unnamed set is scheduled for a March 2017 release. Page last appeared on WWE TV back in April at WrestleMania 32 in the Andre The Giant memorial battle royal.

Bobby Roode On If He Wants To Move From NXT To Main WWE Roster, Talks Samoa Joe

Former TNA Champion Bobby Roode says that NXT is currently the hottest brand under the WWE umbrella, and that it’s not viewed as just a developmental territory anymore. In an interview with Brian Fritz of The Sporting News, Roode talked about the possibility of moving from NXT to SmackDown or RAW.

“I’m happy to be a big part of [NXT] right now,” Roode said. “Wherever my career takes me, whether it be “moving up to the main roster” or staying in NXT doing what I’m doing now, I’m quite content having my passion back for this business and doing what I love to do.”

He cited NXT drawing 15,000 people for TakeOver at the Barclays center as a sign of NXT’s brand power. Roode feels that talent like Samoa Joe and Austin Aries joining NXT changed the landscape of the show.

“I think it’s been great for sports entertainment, getting to see guys like Samoa Joe who, back in the day, let’s be honest, Samoa Joe isn’t the kind of guy you would see on top in the WWE,” Roode said. “It just goes to show that this business is evolving and the fans have such a great input now. Samoa Joe had a huge fanbase coming there so I think it opened up the WWE’s eyes as well.”

  • Video: Ric Flair Asked About Halle Berry Story

Video: Ric Flair Asked About Halle Berry Story

Ric Flair went viral with his claims that he had relations with Halle Berry back in 1997. Last week a rep for Berry denied that she had visited “Space Mountain,” and said she doesn’t even know who Flair is.

The story is still taking on a life of it’s own online, and a TMZ cameraman caught up with The Nature Boy at LaGuardia Airport in New York.

Flair offered “no comment” on Berry’s rep denying his claims. The cameraman followed Flair until he added that she is a “great actress and a nice person.”

According to TMZ, sources close to Hally Berry say she was deeply offended by Flair’s claims.
