Bret Hart “Embarrassed” By WWE Hall of Fame, Says The Freebirds Were “Pill Heads & Screw-Ups”

Bret Hart recently opened up about this thoughts on the WWE Hall of Fame and questioned some of it’s inductees. In an interview with Forbes, Hart said that he’s “embarrassed” by some of WWE’s choices for the Hall of Fame. Hart mentioned Rick Rude, Demolition, and his brother Owen as names he feels should have been inducted before some of the current Hall of Famers.

“I am embarrassed that there’s so many great wrestlers out there that have never been given their credit,” Hart told Forbes. “Never got their due.”

Hart is critical of The Freebirds’ induction into the Hall of Fame over the likes of Owen and Rude.

“Why have they been overlooked when you can induct the Freebirds who never did squat in WWE? Ever. Never drew any money, never did anything,” Hart said. “When I remember the Freebirds, they were all drunk and passed out at the gate at one of the airports in my first day in WWF. None of them even made the show that day, they were too drunk to make their plane”

The WWE Hall of Famer says that he’s always gotten along with Michael Hayes, but says the Freebirds were all “pill heads and screw-ups.”

“If you’re going to have a Hall of Fame, you’ve got to have Owen Hart in the Hall of Fame,” Hart concluded.

Bobby Roode Speaks On The Ups & Downs Of TNA, Leaving For WWE

In a recent interview with RVA Magazine, Bobby Roode described his final years in TNA as having “more downs than ups.” When asked if it was a hard decision to leave TNA for WWE, Roode said it was the right time for him to move on.

“Obviously for the last couple of years in TNA, there was a lot of ups and downs. A lot more downs than ups, which was really one of the reasons I decided to go,” Roode told RVA before Friday’s NXT live event in Norfolk, VA. “At the end of the day, TNA was always very good to me and at that time, it was just time for me to move on.”

On the subject of his entrance music, Roode says his first choice for a song got vetoed by Triple H and they decided on “Glorious Domination,” which they felt better fit his character.

Roode left TNA to work for WWE earlier this year, after he was reportedly owed money by the company. Wrestling promoter David Herro said on the Pro Wrestling Report in April that Roode and Eric Young “left because they were owed a combined six-figures.”

Details On Benoit Biopic: Producers Pitch Kevin Sullivan Storyline, More

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cKPHLzsG4ms

New details are coming out about the upcoming Crossface biopic on Chris Benoit and the murder-suicide in 2007. One writer has already quit the project over a storyline proposed by the producers.

In the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, it’s reported that producers WME suggested that the film have scenes based on a conspiracy theory that WCW booker Kevin Sullivan was involved in the murders. One idea was to have a scene where Sullivan breaks into Benoit’s house, and the original screenwriter Richard O’Sullivan quit the project because he refused to write in speculation that Sullivan was the killer.

WME also reportedly suggested that they have Benoit’s close friend Johnny Grunge be the one who discovered Eddie Guerrero’s body, when it was actually Chavo Guerrero. It doesn’t seem like this idea is making it into the film, and sources say the final product will be closer to the real version of events.

  • Charlotte Plans To Headline A WWE Pay-Per-View With Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks and Bayley

WWE RAW superstar Charlotte recently revealed in an interview with SI.com that she plans to headline a pay-per-view with three specific people. The former Women’s Champion says her next career goal is to face Sasha Banks, Becky Lynch and Bayley in the main event of a PPV.

“I want to headline a pay per view, and I want it to be the fatal four-way with the Four Horsewomen,” Charlotte said of her plans for the future. “The last time I cried was watching the Women’s Revolution on WWE Network a couple of weeks ago when they asked Bayley if she felt left out of WrestleMania [32], and she said, ‘No, I felt a part of it, because even though it was the three of them [Banks, Lynch, and Charlotte] there, it took the four of us to get to where we are.’”

Charlotte feels that her greatest opponent thus far has been Becky Lynch, and compared their rivalry to Ric Flair and Sting’s.

“Becky is my Sting,” said Charlotte. “She is a white meat, pure babyface. There is no gray area. She’s my size, she’s hard-hitting, and we’re best friends.”

Charlotte is scheduled to appear at Monday night’s RAW at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA.

Paul Heyman Speaks On The Possibility Of Brock Lesnar vs. The Rock

In a recent promotional interview for WWE 2k17 in The Sun, Paul Heyman talked about the possibility of his client Brock Lesnar meeting Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson in a WWE ring. Lesnar and Johnson are both much more famous now than they were when they had their 2002 SummerSlam match, and if they faced off again it would likely be the biggest match of the year.

Heyman noted that The Rock didn’t call out Lesnar during any of his recent returns, instead choosing Bray Wyatt and Rusev. After teasing that The Rock may not be ready for Lesnar, Heyman talked about Brock Lesnar’s star power and feels that his client is the biggest draw in wrestling.

“I think Brock Lesnar against anyone is an automatic sell-out,” he said of Lesnar’s drawing power. “Brock does not wrestle 52 Monday’s a year on Monday Night Raw, he does not come to your home town every week, his appearances are rare. They are unique and extraordinary. Which is why, whenever Brock Lesnar appears it is a rare and unique opportunity for the paying customer to see the greatest living athlete in the history of WWE appear live in an extraordinary event that only Brock Lesnar can deliver on. This is why he is the greatest box office attraction.”

Angle revealed that at one point he was taking 65 extra-strength Vicodins daily, due to issues stemming from his broken neck from the 1996 Olympic games.

“I was on a lot. There was no way I couldn’t get out of it,” Angle recalled. “The only thing I could do was eventually go to rehab and try to fix my life again but I actually beat it on my own. I stayed in my house for about 10 days and didn’t leave, and I was able to get through the withdrawal effects and then I was put on another medication after that — a lower dose and then because I broke my neck multiple times, I went on Xanax too because I was always getting nervous. I was really having a lot of stress.”

Despite his success as a six-time world champion in WWE, the schedule and injuries took a toll on Angle. When he left WWE and joined TNA in 2006, that’s when Angle says alcohol issues came into the picture for him. Angle was charged with several DUIs during his first years in TNA.

“I started drinking with my meds. Then I started manipulating my meds,” he said. “I would save all of them for the evening and drink it with alcohol and it got me in a lot of trouble.” Angle was slapped with 4 DUI’s in 5 years during his time in TNA.”

Angle says he tried tackling the substance issue on his own, but it wasn’t until he went to a rehab facility that he got things under control.

“I tried to do it myself, but when you’re that deep into that stuff, you can’t do it on your own,” Angle said. “You need somebody else’s help, and I finally reached out and I did what I had to do to get it done.

“It was the worst seven days of my life as well. I went through detox again. That time it stuck. You can’t do anything; you can’t think; you’re in constant pain; your body’s shaking. You don’t wanna eat; you don’t wanna do anything; you feel like you’re gonna die. It’s the worst pain you’ve ever had in your life. And I went through it twice.”

Angle has been working select independent matches since leaving TNA in January, and there have been several rumors about the Olympic gold medalist returning to WWE next year.

  • Gail Kim Lists Her Top Three Favorite Opponents Ever, Talks TNA

Current TNA star and former WWE star Gail Kim has worked with most of the big names in women’s wrestling, but was able to narrow down her top three favorites in a recent interview with Ring Rust Radio. The top spot on her list goes to none other than fellow former WWE Women’s Champion Beth Phoenix.

“She is probably, from my recollection, the best person I have been in the ring with from a worker’s point of view,” Gail said. “She is always so calm and collected and really knew what she was doing in the ring. She was a great leader as well.”

The other two names that made her top three were Alicia Fox, and second-generation wrestler Natalya Neidhart. As far as who she hasn’t worked with yet, Gail said that Sasha Banks and Bayley catch her eye.

She spoke on the new generation of female talent in TNA, noting that her and Madison Rayne are the only two left from the previous generation of Knockouts. Gail says she is in a place in her career now where she can help younger talent and rebuild the division in TNA. She says many of the new women in TNA have a “thirst and passion” for the business, and she loves working with them on improving the entire division.

You can listen to the entire interview here.

  • Vince’s Involvement In SmackDown, His “Weird Mindset,” WWE’s New Building

Vince’s Involvement In SmackDown, His “Weird Mindset,” WWE’s New Building

    – Despite speculation that Vince McMahon favors the RAW brand, Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reported this week that Vince is still hands-on with SmackDown. Meltzer said it’s simply “not the case” that Vince only works on RAW.

    – Meltzer also commented on the possibility of WWE acting as a distributor and airing other companies’ wrestling shows on their Network, similar to Netflix. He feels that it would make sense, but is unlikely due to Vince’s “weird mindset” about any other company “getting credit” for the Network’s success.

    – As previously reported, WWE has purchased a TV production facility in Stamford, CT for $26.9 million. They made the purchase under “WWE Real Estate Holdings, LLC,” and received a loan for $23 million after paying $2 million to the seller and $1.9 million to the lender up front.

WWE uses about 20,000 square feet in the facility, and plans to double that. The main tenant is AmeriCares, which occupies 90,000 square feet of the property. WWE is honoring AmeriCares’ lease with the previous owner, which runs until 2033.

Jim Ross Speaks On Matt Hardy/WWE Rumors & The Cruiserweights

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myVpEpWIemU

Jim Ross has weighed in on today’s news that WWE reportedly wants to sign Matt Hardy next year, saying fans would be even happier if the company could get back both Hardy brothers. In his latest blog entry, the WWE Hall of Famer says he doesn’t know the validity of the report, but was in favor of Matt returning to the company with or without his brother Jeff.

“Matt has developed the freshest, most unique pro wrestling TV persona in the biz, which is a tribute to a talent with an established persona recreating himself with a new persona,” Ross wrote. “If more talents would think outside the box like this, more talents would have less to complain about regarding their elusive “push.” Matt Hardy will be joining me on the Ross Report Podcast in November so stay tuned for that show. “

J.R. noted that Hardy will be joining him on his Ross Report podcast in November. Hardy has appeared on recent podcasts fully in-character as “Broken” Matt.

Ross also touched on the cruiserweight division on RAW that debut this week, advising the new WWE stars that it takes more than high spots to have success. “The Cruiserweights longevity is directly tied to how well they connect to the fan base including how good their verbal skills are perceived,” he said. Ross added that this new division has “amazing potential” and that he hopes the athletes take advantage of the opportunity.

The Usos def. American Alpha: Gable starts off against Jimmy and ends up dropping Jey too. We get a look at Rhino and Heath Slater in the back watching on a monitor. American Alpha continues to dominate the opening minutes of the match until Jimmy ties up Gable’s injured leg on the ropes and stomps on it. The Usos continue to work Gable’s bad knee for several minutes. Gable fights his way over to Jordan for the hot tag. Jordan hits a series of suplexes on both Usos, including a T-bone suplex on Jey for a near-fall. Jordan takes Jey up to the top rope but Jey fights him off and hits a superkick. Jimmy tags in and hits the splash off the top rope, and Gable breaks up the pin. Gable rolls out to the floor and sells his knee injury, leaving Jordan in the ring alone to fight both Usos. Jimmy hits a superkick on Jordan while Jey drops Gable with a shot to his injured knee. The Usos hit a double superkick on Jordan then Jey hits a splash off the top for the win.

    – Heath Slater and Rhyno are in the back with crackers and cheese whiz. They are working on a new “Rhyno” chant for the fans when The Usos show up and challenge them for their Tag Title belts. Styles questions why he’s in a triple threat match at No Mercy against them. He says he’s going to enjoy sitting back and watching Cena and Ambrose rip each other apart tonight.

  • Buff Bagwell Trashes CM Punk & Samoa Joe On Podcast

Former WCW star Buff Bagwell recently tackled several topics in an interview on the Pancakes and Powerslams podcast. One subject was CM Punk’s debut at UFC 203, which Bagwell says was a “bad, bad decision.” Bagwell also questioned CM Punk’s popularity and ability to draw money in pro wrestling.

“I was rooting for him because it makes us all look good. We’re all pro wrestlers,” Bagwell said, “but, instead, he goes out there and gets his brain beaten out.” He added that when “you go out and get beat up real bad, that is really bad.”

Bagwell explains that CM Punk wouldn’t pass the “Walmart test” that he feels promoters should use when evaluating talent.

“Here’s how I look at it. If I was a promoter like Vince McMahon or Ted Turner, if I was trying to make money in the wrestling industry, I would judge it by having a person walk through Walmart,” he said. “If CM Punk walked through Walmart even as popular as he is, he’s not going to get noticed as much as Hulk Hogan walking through Walmart The reason why I say Walmart, is that’s our fan base.”

Another wrestler Bagwell took issue with was Samoa Joe. He called Joe a “fat, out of shape guy” who shouldn’t be in a wrestling ring. He said Samoa Joe was mad at him one time because he was in the main event of an independent show instead of Joe. “I’ve not heard or seen anyone ever draw a dollar with him,” Bagwell added.

He indicated that Joe might have also taken issue with Bagwell being named Sting’s partner in a 2006 TNA angle instead of Joe. “To the world of wrestling fans, who’s going to be Sting’s tag team partner? The options are Lex Luger, Marcus Bagwell, and Samoa Joe. I mean, who in the heck is Samoa Joe? And Luger wasn’t fit enough, so I fit the part perfectly,” Bagwell said.

Bagwell also spoke on his lawsuit against WWE, saying his lawyer found a “loophole” and the company owes him quarterly royalties from his matches on the WWE Network. You can listen to the full podcast here.
