Orton Says He Expects To Take Lots Of Suplexes On Sunday, Speaks On His Idols, More

WWE’s Scott Standford interviewed Randy Orton on the PIX 11 Morning News in New York City today, where they promoted Sunday’s SummerSlam event and the idea that he’s never crossed paths with Brock Lesnar before.

Orton says he’s never gotten in the ring with Lesnar (he has) because Lesnar “took off.” Orton talked about Lesnar being “very successful” in the UFC, and said he wants to face Lesnar because he’s the biggest dog in the yard and Orton has something to prove. Orton admitted he’s fully aware he’ll be going to “Suplex City,” and feels he can survive 20 suplexes and hit an RKO for the finish.

Although SummerSlam this Sunday is in New York, Orton says his favorite place to wrestle so far is Seoul, South Korea. Orton says he’s never seen a crowd as lively as the ones there.

The Viper also talked about his influences in pro wrestling, saying that he idolized his father and Jake “The Snake” Roberts.

The Real Reason WWE Fired Joey Styles

It now appears that Joey Styles’ comments during a Facebook Q&A with Cathy Kelley are what got him fired by WWE. Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that WWE felt Styles’ comments sounded like he didn’t care what company higher-ups thought, and that’s a big no-no.

During the Facebook interview, Styles talked about Roman Reigns being pushed because kids and their mothers like him. The former ECW announcer also revealed that he doesn’t like the idea of the new Universal Title, and had joked that some of his comments may get him in trouble. He said the WWE.com team was unappreciated by the company, and may have said too many “inside” things for WWE’s liking.

The interview has now been pulled from all of WWE’s social media pages.

Styles most recently appeared at the EVOLVE 67 iPPV in New York City and received a big pop from his hometown crowd.

Update On James Storm-TNA, Dixie Carter Misses TV Tapings, Godderz Note

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZzDy4XL83yU

– Jessie Godderz will be returning to Big Brother on CBS on Friday night. He’ll be taking part in the Big Brother County Fair competition “Dunk the hunk.” This is Godderz’ third appearance on Big Brother this season.

– It sounds like Dixie Carter hasn’t been around much at this month’s Impact tapings. PWInsider reports that Carter was not at the last few TV tapings, after missing the previous set of tapings due to being on a two-week vacation in Africa.

– As previously reported, James Storm may be on the way out of TNA. At one of this week’s Impact tapings, Storm cut a promo about backstage “B.S.” in TNA making him want to go elsewhere. PWInsider.com now reports that Storm did in fact miss most of this week’s Impact tapings, but it was due to a pre-approved vacation and not “contract B.S.” as explained on TV. This further adds to speculation that Storm teasing his departure is just a storyline.

Report: Backstage Heat On Dean Ambrose Over Stone Cold Interview

WWE management is reportedly not happy with Dean Ambrose after his recent Stone Cold Podcast appearance on the WWE Network. The Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that the heat has nothing to do with any of the awkward moments during the interview, but rather some of Ambrose’s answers to Steve Austin’s questions.

The first thing that got Ambrose in hot water with company management was his opinion on WWE’s creative direction. Ambrose was negative on WWE creative, which company brass sees as him being negative on Triple H and Vince McMahon.

WWE officials were reportedly also unhappy with Ambrose’s comments about Brock Lesnar, according to the Wrestling Observer. Ambrose said he felt Lesnar was lazy at WrestleMania 32, and that the former UFC Champion didn’t want to do anything with him during their match together.

“For selfish reasons, I’d like to see Brock stand tall until I get my hands on him,” Joe said of Lesnar’s match against Orton on Sunday. “I’d like to see Brock pull through so I can get my shot at him.”

Back in 2015 Joe wanted Lesnar at WrestleMania 32, now Joe says he wants The Beast at WrestleMania 33 next year.

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross also wants to see Joe and Lesnar face off at some point. Back in April, Ross said he would “love” to see the match, and predicted that Joe and Finn Balor would both become big stars on the main WWE roster.

Samoa Joe Speaks On Keeping His Name & Character In WWE, If Management Trusts Him

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-qFcFP72s2U

Samoa Joe says he’s enjoying his time in WWE so far. In an interview with Channel Guide Magazine to promote Takeover: Back To Brooklyn, the NXT Champion explained that he had hear “horror stories” about how things are in WWE before he joined the company. Joe began his career in 1999 and didn’t arrive in WWE until last year.

“The majority of my career, you see people released or on their way out of the company saying various horror stories about how things are,” Joe said. “So my expectations were pretty low. But being a part of the company has far exceeded my expectations. It has been a blast the entire time I’ve worked here.”

Joe says what makes this run in NXT so enjoyable for him is management giving him certain freedoms with his character. He feels that WWE trusts him enough to get over on his own as Samoa Joe.

“It was really WWE kind of taking their hands off and letting me do me,” he explained. “They kind of gave me the reins to be Samoa Joe and do what I needed to do. They let me keep my moniker. I think the biggest thing is they respected me and my artistic integrity.”

Joe also commented on the Cruiserweight Classic, calling it “very exciting” and says WWE is trying a lot of new and exciting things. You can read his entire interview here.

The Miz: Tim Tebow Would Be The Greatest Bad Guy Ever In WWE

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MeCF3KMxNvo

The Miz recently revealed which athlete he would most like to see enter the WWE ring. On ESPN SportsNation, The Miz said he wants former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow to step in the squared circle.

Miz believes Tebow could be the “greatest bad guy we’ve ever had” in WWE. Back in September, Jim Ross also revealed that he had suggested Tebow to WWE on two separate occasions.

The Miz theorized that the WWE Universe would hate Tebow because he’s such a “good guy” in the real world, and says WWE fans like bad guys.

Tebow was released by the Philadelphia Eagles last September, and is now reportedly trying out for Major League Baseball.

You can watch The Miz’s entire ESPN segment here.

Pat Patterson Speaks On If Roman Reign’s Suspension Will Hurt His Career, The Rock

Pat Patterson recently sat down with Newsweek to promote his new book, Accepted: How the First Gay Superstar Changed WWE,” and was asked about Roman Reigns’ recent suspension. Reigns was suspended on June 21st for violating WWE’s Wellness Policy. Patterson says he doesn’t think the suspension will hurt Reigns’ career.

“Everybody makes mistakes one time or another,” Patterson said. “We all do stupid things at one time or another. We have to be smart… when you’re young you don’t know anything. I think he’ll be alright.”

Patterson also talked about Reigns’ first cousin once-removed, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson. Patterson says he did not predict that The Rock would go on to become such a big star.

“I used to wrestle his father [Rocky Johnson], and his wife, Ata, was sitting at ringside with the baby — that was the Rock,” Patterson recalled. “He called me because he wanted to break into the business. He must have been 19, 20. I called Vince and said, “You want to see that kid.” After his first movie, he said, “Pat, you’re going to walk the red carpet with me at the premiere.” That made me feel good.”

Speaking of Vince McMahon, Patterson noted that he thinks the WWE Chairman will “never” retire. You can read his entire Newsday interview here.

Buff Bagwell Files Lawsuit Against WWE

Marcus “Buff” Bagwell has filed a lawsuit in the United States District Court of Connecticut against WWE over the WWE Network. Bagwell feels he is owed royalties from content featuring him on the Network.

Bagwell feels like the wording in his WWE contract in June 2001 means the royalties clause from his WCW contract carried over to WWE. His WWE contract reportedly reads “all prior understandings, negotiations, and agreements are merged into this agreement.” Bagwell’s June contract reportedly declared that he would get a percentage of the net receipts paid to WWE for the sales of WCW pay-per-views.

The lawsuit also argues that he’s owed residuals for pay-per-views he appears in on the WWE Network, and he says he his contract claimed he would be paid from sales on “technology not yet created.”

In an interview in 2015, Bagwell said he feels Jim Ross sabotaged his WWE career. He alleged that Ross started a rumor that Bagwell got his mother to call in sick to WWE management.

Bagwell hasn’t worked for WWE since his release in the summer of 2001.

Kurt Angle Issues Challenge To Conor McGregor

Kurt Angle was among the wrestlers who took issue with Conor McGregor calling most WWE stars “p*ssies.” Angle recently spoke with Sports Illustrated to issue a challenge to McGregor, but not to a fight.

“Take five bumps with me in the ring. Just five bumps,” Angle challenged McGregor. “When I did that for the first time, I took three and said, ‘F— this, I’m quitting.’ I quit for a couple days and my manager talked me into going back. I know how Dana White and Conor continue to bash the business, but I challenge either of them to get in the ring with me and take five bumps.”

McGregor said during a recent UFC media call that he’d “slap the head off your [WWE] entire roster. And twice on Sunday’s.” Angle mentioned Dolph Ziggler as one WWE star who could “give Conor a good run for his money” if he had the right training camp. The Olympic gold medalist vouched for Ziggler’s amateur wrestling abilities, and thinks Ziggler would need six months of preparation to compete with McGregor.

Another name that came up was John Cena. Angle feels that Cena would “tap in twenty seconds” in MMA, but that he’s still the “biggest badass” he knows for his professional accomplishments.

“[Cena] has been on top for thirteen years. No one has ever done that,” Angle said. “He’s now in his fourteenth year on top. I couldn’t do it. Hulk Hogan didn’t do that, Stone Cold had four or five years tops, and it was the same with The Rock before he went to Hollywood. From a toughness standpoint, there is nobody tougher than John Cena. I would love to see Conor McGregor try to be on top of WWE for thirteen years. He wouldn’t make it.”

You can read Angle’s entire interview on SI.com.

Jesse Ventura To The Rock: “Don’t Waste Your Talent In The Political Arena”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been hinting that he has political aspirations, but former Minnesota governor Jesse “The Body” Ventura says he shouldn’t bother. In a recent interview with The Atlantic, Ventura offered some advice to the fellow WWE Hall of Famer about politics: “Don’t bother with it.”

“You have a phenomenal career in Hollywood. Why would you want to go into politics? Ride the Hollywood horse until it falls,” Ventura said of The Rock’s political dreams. “Are you kidding me? Politics, he can’t earn near the money he’s making. Unless he just truly wants to make a difference I guess. But, Dwayne’s a very talented man, no doubt about it. And I would encourage him not to waste it in the political arena.”

In addition to several hints on social media, The Rock told Time Magazine earlier this year that the thought of being governor or president is “very alluring” to him. Johnson was a registered Republican as of 2014 and spoke at the party’s National Convention back in 2000. Ventura became the governor of Minnesota back in November ’98 when he ran as an independent to narrowly and unexpectedly defeat two major-party candidates.

Ventura also talked about current U.S. Presidential candidate and former WrestleMania headliner Donald Trump. Ventura recalls meeting him at the early WrestleMania events held at Trump’s venues and Trump supporting him during his run for Minnesota governor. Ventura says that even though Trump is running as a Republican, he doesn’t believe he actually is one.

“Donald Trump is not a Republican. Donald Trump has been an Independent truly his whole life,” Ventura said. “He just chose to go after the nomination with the Republican party, just like Bernie Sanders did with the Democrats. Like I initially stated when they [ran], I said I was ecstatic over it because they were destroying the two parties and I thought that was wonderful. As you know I despise these parties; I think they’re the problem, they’re not the solution. And I believe we should ban political parties, and the forefathers agree with me.”

Ricky Steamboat Talks About WWE Refusing To Let Him Turn Heel & Working With Flair

Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat recently did an interview where he opened up about never turning heel throughout his in-ring career. In an interview with the Post and Courier, the Hall of Famer said he requested to turn heel back in the early 90’s, but then-WWF creative guru Pat Patterson shut the idea down.

“Pat [Patterson] simply told me that it would probably ruin my career,” Steamboard recalled. “I just wanted to experience what it felt like on the other side of the fence. As we all know, the heels have the most fun out there in the ring.

“When you are a face for a long time and you turn heel, your stock value immediately goes up, especially if you’re able to pull it off in the ring and on the mic,” he said.

Steamboat’s most famous in-ring rival during his legendary career was Ric Flair. Steamboat says he learned a lot from “just listening” to Flair, and from repetition.

“I think one of the biggest attributes that helped me and other guys, too, during that era was the fact that we wrestled nearly every night back then,” he said. “Monday night we’d be in Greenville and the next night we’d be in Columbia, so it’s only 90 miles.”

Conor McGregor Trashes WWE Superstars As “Messed Up P*ssies”

UFC fighter Connor McGregor says most WWE Superstars are messed up p*ssies.

During Friday’s UFC 202 conference call, McGregor was asked about the pro wrestling empire, and he didn’t have much nice to say. McGregor also expressed a lack of respect for Brock Lesnar over his failed drug test after UFC 200.

“For the most part those WWE guys are p*ssies. They’re messed up p*ssies, if you ask me,” McGregor said.

When asked about Brock Lesnar, McGregor said he’s “juiced up to his eyeballs” and questioned, “How can I respect that?”

McGregor said The McMahons, Triple H, and The Rock are “dons” but “the rest of them are f*cking pu**ies.”
