Kevin Owens Discusses Moving From NXT To The WWE Main Roster

Kevin Owens was on ESPN SportsCenter on Tuesday night to be interviewed by Jonathan Coachman. Owens talked about diving into his wrestling career when he was 16, and how he adjusted from NXT to the main WWE roster.

Coachman asked Owens what the transition from NXT to WWE TV was like, and K.O. said his time in NXT was an amazing experience. Owens says he started training in a barn, so to work somewhere like the Performance Center in Orlando was “awesome.” As far as joining the WWE main roster goes, Owens made a point to remind everyone that he beat down John Cena on his first night on RAW. Owens says he believes he belongs on top in WWE, and attacking Cena, the top guy in the company, made perfect sense to him.

Owens added that making his WrestleMania debut on April 3rd this year was a “great experience.” K.O. says he looks forward to competing at the annual event for years to come. Owens vowed to win back the Intercontinental Title soon, after losing it at WrestleMania 32. You can watch part of Owens’ segment on ESPN.com.

Bret Hart On Backstage McMahon Family Tension At Payback: “Vince Is Loving It”

Back in March it was reported that Vince McMahon and Triple H have some real-life tension between them backstage in WWE. The Wrestling Observer reported that Vince may even be playing Shane against Stephanie and his son-in-law in their off-screen family drama, as Shane left the company in 2009 when he found out HHH and Steph would be taking over the company instead of him. Bret Hart recently added to this story, saying it seemed like there was “real tension” backstage at Payback.

On his latest Sharpshooter Show podcast, the WWE Hall of Famer says he noticed that he never saw Shane in the same room as Stephanie and Triple H. “I was just reading between the lines without knowing anything. It seemed like there was real tension there. They were all really friendly when they saw me but you never saw anybody at the same time,” The Hitman explained. “I noticed when I saw Shane after Nattie’s match, he didn’t go into the gorilla position. He kind of stayed out. I realized then that it was because Stephanie and Triple H were in there. So, I don’t know…maybe there’s real tension there.”

Hart says he thinks Vince McMahon is “loving” the tension, and he thinks the real-life drama is influencing WWE’s current television storylines. He thinks Vince’s children and Triple H are probably uncomfortable with the tension, and that Vince would be the one throwing more gas on the fire.

“I sense that there is some real tension in the family. I got the impression from watching it on TV, just like the fans do, that Vince is loving it,” Hart said. “He loves the tension between them. This little storyline that they have seems like it’s true and it’s based on a real situation. A lot of times that’s what Vince likes to play on.”

The Hitman also revealed that he mostly dealt with Vince one-on-one when setting up the “Chicago screwjob” angle at Payback, and that he thought it was “pretty lame.” Bret said putting Flair in the Sharpshooter was his idea to end the segment on a good note. You can listen to his entire podcast here.

Teddy Long Says He Agrees With Ryback On Pay Equality In WWE

Former WWE referee and on-air personality Teddy Long says he’s happy to be away from the wrestling business following his release from WWE. Long, whose WWE contract expired back in June of 2014, said in an interview with Pro Wrestling 24/7 that he understands where Ryback is coming from with his thoughts on pay equality. On Tuesday, Ryback wrote a blog post challenging WWE’s pay scale.

“There are certain guys who receive a certain amount of pay and certain guys another amount, it determines where you are on the card,” Long said of Ryback’s issue. “Sometimes you feel like you’re put into a position where you’re at the top of the card, or even midcard. And then you go to one of these big pay per views. And you expect to get more and you don’t get that, it kind of makes you feel, especially after you bust your butt, like you’re not appreciated.”

Long said he agrees with Ryback’s stance, and he’s seen other talent with similar issues.

“I’ve seen that happen to a lot of guys. Even myself,” Long said. “I’ve worked shows, like Wrestlemania and thought I was in a good spot for a good payday and then it didn’t happen, it came to be something else.”

The former SmackDown General Manager also talked about how WWE has achieved mainstream success, and that TNA isn’t really competitor for them. You can listen to the full interview here.

Santino Marella Comments On His WWE Release

As noted, two-time WWE Intercontinental Champion Santino Marella was released on Friday. Marella took to Twitter to comment on WWE releasing him, writing that his next chapter “shall be even greater.”

Marella signed with WWE in 2005, and started on the main roster in 2007. During his time with the company, he also held the United States Championship and the Tag Team Championship with Vladimir Kozlov. Marella retired from in-ring action in 2014 after suffering his third neck injury.

Santino made several appearances for WWE after announcing his retirement. Most recently, he presented a Slammy Award in December, then worked an angle with The Ascension ruining his Christmas party the next night on SmackDown with Neville and Titus O’Neil coming to his aid.

TNA Re-Structuring Contracts, Backstage Talk On Expected Sale Of Company

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9EMZsv4EzzU

TNA is reportedly making some big internal changes. According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, TNA officials are currently trying to re-structure contracts for the majority of their roster. The re-structuring involves the company controlling all of their talents’ outside bookings, which reportedly is a move to give TNA more value in the event of a sale.

Regarding rumors of a sale, officials are keeping quiet and the talent seems to be in the dark on the issue. The Wrestling Observer also claims that at least one person was told that when any sale or investment is completed, Dixie Carter and John Gaburick would still be in control of the company.

For the first time in several months, TNA has also reportedly started offering deals with “significant” money attached to them to free agents in the wrestling world.

It was reported in April that TNA is in talks with three possible investors. One is a TV company that could air Impact Wrestling on it’s own channel and operate the company similar to how Turner operated WCW. Another one is a marketing agency operated by the Harris brothers, and the other is a company called Summit Strategic Investments that specializes in “troubled assets.” TNA’s international partners Sony Six in India and Challenge TV in the UK both turned down offers for 10% ownership of the company in exchange for funding.

Update On Eric Young’s Contract Status With WWE

After reportedly leaving TNA over a financial dispute, their former World Champion Eric Young made his NXT debut at last week’s TV tapings. Young’s first match aired on the May 4th edition of NXT, when he lost to current NXT Champion and fellow former TNA Champion Samoa Joe.

PWInsider.com reports that despite appearing on the WWE Network, Young has not yet signed a contract with the company. Young reportedly is expected to sign with the company soon and will join the NXT roster.

After being with TNA since 2004, Young asked for his release from the company in March of 2016. PWTorch.com reported that Young and Bobby Roode, who had also been with the company since 2004, asked for raises and were denied. A report came out in April claiming that the two were owed over six-figures by TNA at the time they left the company.

Bret Hart On Meeting With Triple H & The McMahons At Payback, Enzo’s Injury

Bret Hart typically doesn’t have many nice things to say about Triple H, but the WWE Hall of Famer says The Game was “very cordial” to him backstage at Payback. Hart was at Payback to accompany Natalya to her match against Charlotte with Ric Flair, and The Hitman says Triple H treated him “like a million bucks” backstage. Hart talked about meeting with Triple H and the McMahons on his podcast The Sharpshooter Show.

“I sensed a lot of sincerity there on everyone’s part,” said the 7-time World Champion about his experience at Payback. “From Vince down to Triple H to Shane. Shane was very gracious and had some really nice things to say about me that I had forgot about. I was a very protective guy of Shane years ago when he was just a young guy in the business. I looked out for him a lot and I think it was nice for him to tell me that. That he never forgot how much I looked out for him and protected him from a lot of the vices and evils that were lurking about in pro wrestling.”

Hart, whose career was cut short by a concussion, also used his podcast to talk about Enzo Amore getting injured at the pay-per-view. Hart shared his memory of talking with Ric Flair after the spot occured, and Flair looking “horrified.”

“He said to me, ‘He broke his neck,’” Hart said of his interaction with The Nature Boy. “They took [Amore] to the hospital. He seemed very upset and a lot of the other wrestlers were upset. Luckily within a few minutes everyone was like, “Nah, it’s ok. He’s hurt. He’s got concussion symptoms but he didn’t break his neck.” There was a lot of relief.”

Hart didn’t point blame at anyone for the injury, but pointed out that the ropes in a WWE ring “are almost like iron bars across the ring.”

You can listen to Hart’s entire podcast here.

Austin Offers Advice To Simon Gotch About Spot That Injured Enzo Amore

Stone Cold Steve Austin was among those who called Enzo Amore after he suffered a concussion at Sunday’s Payback PPV. Austin recently said he had a good talk with Amore, and discussed the spot with Simon Gotch that went wrong on his podcast The Steve Austin Show.

Austin used his podcast to offer some advice to Gotch of the Vaudevillains, who threw Amore into the ropes which caused the concussion. “When you’re throwing a man through the ropes at that short of a distance,” Austin advised, “you back off the horsepower.” Austin says Gotch threw Amore into the ropes with “way too much force,” and instead he should just be guiding him towards the ropes with “a little bit of momentum.”

Austin also criticized Gotch for trying to pick up Amore by his head when he was in a bad position. His second piece of advice to the Vaudevillians member was not to pick his opponent up by their head if he has an “inkling that something went wrong.”

The WWE Hall of Famer said he thinks Gotch got excited in the moment and didn’t want to come down too hard on him, but that it was a “really scary bump.”

“Gotch, check on a man before you grab someone by the head if you suspect anything,” Austin stated. “And that’s just words of wisdom. I’m not eating your ass out. I’m just saying, ‘hey, ease up on the horsepower’.”

You can listen to Austin’s podcast here.

Report: Ryback Sent Home Over Contract Dispute

Ryback is in the midst of a contract dispute with WWE that will keep him off television indefinitely, according to a report at PWInsider.com. After losing to Kalisto on Sunday night’s Payback kickoff show, he was advertised for the the battle royal on RAW to determine the new #1 contender to Kalisto’s US title, but did not appear.

Dave Meltzer spoke about the situation on Monday night’s Wrestling Observer Live, noting that Ryback met with Vince McMahon on Monday to negotiate. Ryback didn’t like WWE’s offer and the discussion ended with Vince suggested maybe Ryback needs time off. Ryback reportedly obliged. Meltzer said, “The feeling is that unless there’s a reconciliation, then that’s it.”

Ryback’s current deal with WWE expires this summer and it appears the two sides are having difficulty finding common ground as they assess his value to the company moving forward.

In recent months, Ryback has been outspoken about WWE not utilizing him properly. the way WWE has booked his character, noting that he’s not satisfied with his character’s booking. During a recent interview with Dubai radio personality Myles, Ryback said he was “absolutely not” satisfied with working the WrestleMania kickoff show, noting that “the last 3 WrestleManias have not been great.”

He’s very eager to get back to the top of the card and isn’t afraid to walk away from wrestling if he can’t achieve his goals. “I’ve heard in this business hard work doesn’t always pay off,” he said. “So maybe The Big Guy has to go find another world where that does pay off.”

Stephanie says she wants to hear Shane’s ideas for tonight’s show, but before he can start he’s interrupted by Kevin Owens. Owens says he has an idea for tonight: Give him a title match against The Miz. He’s interrupted by Cesaro, who says he’s the one who deserves a rematch with The Miz. Shane tells them they’re going to fight over it tonight, and the winner gets a shot at The Miz’s IC Title.

Hulk Hogan Launches New Lawsuit Against Gawker For Ending His WWE Career

Hulk Hogan has launched another lawsuit against Gawker, who he successfully sued for $140 million earlier this year for releasing his sex tape. The New York Post says Hogan, real name Terry Bollea, is suing the website again, this time for leaking the transcripts of his racially-motivated rant that got him fired by WWE. The suit says that his “income was cut off, his legacy in entertainment was severely damaged (if not completely destroyed), and his global brand was forever tarnished.” Gawker founder Nick Denton allegedly taunted Hogan before the transcripts leaked, saying Hogan’s “real secrets” would come out.

The lawsuit alleges that Gawker and radio host Mike “Cowhead” Calta were behind leaking the transcripts, and that Gawker had threatened to release them months before they leaked. Calta is a rival of Bubba the Love Sponge, who filmed the sex tape between his ex-wife and Hogan.

Gawker’s stance on the new lawsuit is that Hogan is “abusing the court system” for PR purposes, and that he needs to blame himself for WWE firing him. Below is a statement from Gawker about the case:

Hogan’s lawsuit is for unspecified damages, and there’s no word on how much he expects to get. His lawyer could bring up lost earnings from WWE merchandise and WrestleMania 32. Gawker is working on appealing the original $140 million verdict from March.
