Report: Titus O’Neil’s Explanation For Grabbing Vince On RAW

Titus O’Neil reportedly gave an explanation to WWE management for grabbing Vince McMahon’s arm on RAW that wasn’t good enough to get him out of his suspension.

According to ProWrestlingSheet.com, O’Neil told WWE management that he grabbed Vince’s arm when he was walking to the back so Stephanie could walk in front of him. O’Neil reportedly claimed it was a gesture to indicated “ladies first,” so Stephanie McMahon could exit the stage first, ahead of Vince. O’Neil intended it in a playful manner, but Vince was having none of it and shoved O’Neil away.

O’Neil is currently serving a 60-day suspension for unprofessional conduct. ProWrestlingSheet.com reports that the lengthy suspension is to send a message to the roster to be more professional, as management feels several wrestlers have been “riding the line” when it comes to following company rules.

Titus O’Neil Update: WWE Statement, Suspension Reduced

WWE has responded to allegations that their suspension of Titus O’Neil, which has been reduced to 60 days, was racially motivated. WWE issued the following statement to The New York Post this week:

“The suspension of Titus O’Neil had nothing to do with race and everything to do with unprofessional conduct.”

WWE also sent The Post a copy of a text message they claim O’Neil sent someone high up in the company. The text from O’Neil read:

“I feel like sh** now so if you have to let me go, I understand. Stupid mistake.”

  • Jim Ross Speaks On Daniel Bryan’s Retirement, Kurt Angle Compares Bryan To HBK & Benoit

    – Former WWE & TNA champion Kurt Angle says he feels Daniel Bryan is “one of the all time greats.” The Olympic gold medalist commented on Bryan’s retirement via Twitter, comparing Bryan’s in-ring work to two of Angle’s old WWE opponents. Here’s what he had to say:

    – Jim Ross recently spoke on the news of Daniel Bryan’s retirement as an active pro wrestler. On his blog at JRsBarBQ.com, the WWE Hall of Famer says he feels strongly that Bryan and WWE should consider a behind-the-scenes role for him in the company. Here’s an excerpt:

I feel that WWE would be best served here to keep Bryan Danielson on the staff and put him in a position to help young talents adjust to life in the WWE not only from an in ring standpoint but from life away from the ring as well. No company can ever have enough people the quality of Bryan Danielson helping develop their brand and, most importantly, their young talents who I feel will respond in a big way to the coaching of one of the great overachievers ever in the business.

I don’t know of another wresting company that protects their athletes as thoroughly as WWE does their talents. Thank goodness that WWE did do all the extensive testing on Bryan’s injury and that they did not bend to the pressures of the talent or his fans to return hm to the ring. If DB had been wrestling for another company, any company, would he have received the care that he needed to determine the actual severity of the concussion issue?

In the proverbial, ‘good old days’ the concussion issue would have been largely ignored and the talent would have been returned to the ring as quickly as possible.

At the end of the day, Daniel Bryan is blessed to be wrestling in today’s marketplace and specifically for WWE where he has received amazing, medical care from a battery of specialists who certainly don’t work cheap but who likely have intervened to help ensure that the athlete who overcame numerous odds to become a star in WWE can live a productive life as a husband, father and son.

There are a litany of ways that Bryan Danielson can help the business that he loves to grow and better navigate the talent’s future

As good as he was wherever he went – from Independents, to Japan, to ROH, Bryan Danielson just did not strike many (including me) as a WWE guy. Three security guys rushed him and just pulled him out of our row and he was out of there quick. You can tell by the look on his face that he didn’t even know what was happening.”

  • Bret Hart: Lesnar Should Have Won Royal Rumble, Montreal Screwjob Was HHH’s Idea

Bret Hart: Lesnar Should Have Won Royal Rumble, Montreal Screwjob Was HHH’s Idea

Bret Hart is not one to mince words. In a recent interview with Ring Rust Radio, the former WWE Champion talked about Triple H coming out of retirement and being booked to win the title belt. Hart says Triple H believes an impressive physique is more important than in-ring skill. Hart says someone he feels has both the physique and the skill should have won the 2016 ‘Rumble: Brock Lesnar.

“I was a really big fan of Daniel Brian and CM Punk. They were great wrestlers,” said the WWE Hall of Famer. “I think Triple H is a guy in a different mindset and is more about how you look. More into a guy like Batista, The Rock and Brock Lesnar. I will say though, I think Brock is a great wrestler. If they all look like Hulk Hogan or big muscle-bound guys like Arnold Schwarzenegger, he would be really happy. That to him is what wrestling is all about. He thinks that is the type of guys you should push, and maybe that’s why he is the champion. I am personally a guy that’s more about wrestling. I don’t really have an interest in watching bodybuilders stumbling around the ring. Most of the time, they aren’t the best athletes. It’s not about how you look; it’s about how you wrestle. Wrestling fans are the priority. I’m a big fan of Kevin Owens and I think he’s a great wrestler, and I’m also a big fan of Brock Lesnar and I think he should have won the Royal Rumble.”

When asked about the infamous 1997 Montreal Screwjob, Bret admits he would not budge on his stance against losing to Shawn Michaels, but that he would have been willing to drop the WWF Championship to anyone else — including the Brooklyn Brawler.

“I was very open to outcomes, but my issue was with Shawn and how he had disrespected me. I made that clear to Vince months ahead of time. Vince said I could leave any way I wanted to. He had said I could forfeit the belt, which was his original idea, not mine,” Hart said. “Other parties at the time had Vince’s ear, and he can be very twisted and pulled in other directions. I think Shawn and Triple H were really pushing him, and I think it was Triple H’s idea to do the screw job and Vince eventually went along with it.

“In hindsight, I don’t think anyone can look back on it today and say it was a good idea. It was a stupid idea and it worked out really poorly for everyone involved including them. There are a lot of better ways to do business than that. As far as an alternative ending, when I showed up that day Vince agreed with everything. He said we can do it my way and there can be a run in with all the other wrestlers involved and end it in a disqualification with me keeping the title and I was happy with that. I didn’t need to come up with another idea. If he had told me he wasn’t sure on what we should do about the ending, then I would have been very receptive to try to find a solution to give him what he wanted, and at the same time protected my integrity and respect I had for the business.”

  • Rey Mysterio Possibly Returning To WWE After Issues With AAA

There is speculation online that Rey Mysterio may be returning to WWE, at least on a part-time basis. On his podcast, former WCW star Konnan said that Mysterio would consider going back to WWE if he can get a reduced schedule.

Following Konnan’s statement, Dave Meltzer explained on Wrestling Observer Radio this weekend that AAA and Lucha Underground were banking on Alberto Del Rio and Rey Mysterio to be their big stars. With Del Rio returning to WWE, and Mysterio considering following suit, Meltzer feels this is very telling about the status of the companies. ProWrestlingSheet reports that Mysterio is currently in a dispute with AAA over money, and what he perceives as “shady business practices.” Mysterio hasn’t appeared for AAA since 2015 despite being under contract.

Adding to the speculation, Mysterio’s name has been mentioned on WWE programming several times in recent months. WWE.com did a feature on him, and JBL even gave him a shoutout during the Royal Rumble.

Back in August, Mysterio explained his willingness to return in an interview with Sports Illustrated.

“I didn’t leave on bad terms. I left on good terms with WWE, so I don’t want to say never,” Mysterio said. “They treated me very well, and I’m nothing but thankful with that company for letting Rey Mysterio be Rey Mysterio and be recognized worldwide. If the opportunity comes about in the future, and there is interest from both parties, then why not?”

With WWE’s roster plagued with injuries leading into the biggest pay-per-view of the year, should WWE enlist Mysterio to add more “star power” to WrestleMania 32? Sound off with your thoughts in the comments.

  • Kevin Thorn Says Wrestlers Are Owed Royalties From The WWE Network

Kevin Thorn Says Wrestlers Are Owed Royalties From The WWE Network

Former WWE wrestler Kevin Thorn has a bone to pick with his former employer over the WWE Network. In a recent appearance on the Two Man Power Trip podcast, Thorn explained that he feels WWE owes wrestlers royalties for their subscription service.

“I don’t watch the Network, I don’t have the Network, I just wish the Network would pay me some royalties,” Thorn said “I go to the mail every quarter and I get a small check and I say well that’s all great but Vince is making billions of dollars off the Network and for some reason my royalty check doesn’t reflect that. I keep waiting for it to say this is what you are getting for the Network and the Network doesn’t show up there. I often wonder how you are charging for it but I am not getting a cent for it. It is what it is. Maybe one day and now they are just trying to figure out how to pay everyone, they are good about that and they may figure out a way I guess. They are not paying me, maybe they are paying other people. From what I’ve heard people haven’t seen a check for it because to be honest when we signed our contracts it was DVD sales and VHS sales and Pay Per View buys. Now with digital downloads I just don’t know, it is what it is.”

Thorn says eventually WWE needs to figure out how to pay royalties to the talent featured on the WWE Network.

“I can only assume guys are wondering where it is that this Network is coming to be lucrative for everyone and it doesn’t have to be millions of dollars. Money here and there is for sure definitely worth it. Especially if from what I understand since I don’t own the Network you can punch in my name and bring up anything I’ve ever done. Now granted, they paid me well when I was there but that’s the point of royalties. Mr T still gets paid off the A-Team, Hannibal is still getting his cheddar and so is Murdoch. Something needs to be held accounted for or said for that.”
