  • MVP: “Certain People” Are Responsible For TNA Not Being A “Solid Alternative” To WWE

Former WWE and TNA star MVP was recently a guest on the Sam Roberts Wrestling Podcast to discuss various subjects. He spoke at length about the difference between WWE and TNA, and has a theory about why TNA is not a “solid secondary alternative” to WWE right now. Here’s what he had to say:

“There is no competition and I don’t want to sound mean or to take the piss out of [TNA], but WWE has no competition,” MVP said. “You can have alternatives to [WWE], but there is no competition. In my opinion, certain people in managerial roles at TNA leave a lot to be desired and that’s the reason TNA is in the situation it’s in right now. They’ve been around for 13 years. At this point, they should be a solid secondary alternative to WWE [and] well in the black, but they’re not.”

MVP also touched base on Chris Jericho’s career turn from wrestler to recording artist, saying:

“I’m more inspired by what Chris Jericho has done with Fozzy because you’ve heard some of my hip hop and my songs. I’m 42 [years old] and before it gets to be too late, I want to start my own hardcore band. Yeah, I want to front my own band and I’ve got songs that I wrote years ago and that’s a project that I’ve really been thinking about a lot lately that doesn’t take much to do.”

  • Jeff Hardy Says There’s “Huge Possibility Down The Road” For WWE Return

Jeff Hardy recently discussed possibly returning to the WWE one day, among other subjects on Ric Flair’s podcast. Hardy last appeared on WWE television in 2009. Here are some highlights from his appearance on the 31st episode of the WOOOOO! Nation podcast:

    On possibly returning to WWE:

“I think there’s a huge possibility down the road. I’m not sure when, but I think both Matt and myself would love to end our careers in the WWE, and it’d be super, double great to be able to have a few more good ones with the Dudley Boyz, for sure.” Hardy added, “as far as us returning [to WWE] and having some more matches with them, it all depends on how long they’re going to be there and how long it takes us to get there. I mean, but, definitely, it’s a possibility. I’m just not sure when right now.”

On what else he wants to accomplish in his career:

“I’ve done most of everything I’ve wanted to do, but I guess there [are] two big things. I mean, and those two big things are I never got to do a Hell In [A] Cell in the WWE. That’s a pretty big one. And I’ve never main evented WrestleMania, so, ultimately, if it could all work out one day before it’s all over, I’d like to do those two things.”

Both Jeff and his brother Matt Hardy’s deals with TNA expire in 12 weeks

  • AJ Styles Says Hulk Hogan Was Embarrassed By TNA During His Time There

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfYd9fAZzPA

AJ Styles has a theory about Hulk Hogan’s TNA run, which went from 2009 to 2013 and gave The Hulkster and Eric Bischoff a lot of influence over the company’s television product. Styles recently appeared on The Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast and was critical when asked about the Bischoff/Hogan era in TNA.

AJ started by saying Hogan and Bischoff didn’t study the TNA roster before their arrival, and didn’t know enough about TNA’s homegrown talent.

“First of all, I just tried to stay positive. Pretty much anything Hulk Hogan touched at least at the beginning turned to gold,” Styles said. “But it didn’t obviously, because I don’t think he knew the roster that was in front of him and that was the problem. The names, the people who were the “brand names” of TNA that they had no idea who they were. If they didn’t know who they were they just did whatever they wanted with it. They wanted me to dye my hair blonde and be ‘Little Ric’ and just because they didn’t know me. Instead of being Ric Flair I needed to be AJ Styles with Ric Flair. Being with Ric I’ll hopefully get the rub from Ric there is no doubt about that and Fortune could have been great but they broke up Fortune a little bit too early and we were really getting some steam and they broke us up and noting came about it.

Styles feels Hogan didn’t use his many mainstream media appearances to promote TNA, instead discussing his personal turmoils. Styles believes that Hogan was embarrassed by TNA, and purposely didn’t talk about it much with the media.

“It was things like that that got weird, and Hogan seemed like he didn’t have much to do with TNA and seemed like he was embarrassed of the show because he never said anything about TNA at all,” Styles cotinued. “Even when he was on shows he just never mentioned it. I believe that he was ashamed of what was on TV. I believe if TNA were doing a lot better he would have been a lot more gung-ho about saying a lot more about it but he didn’t say a word and it bothered me but thinking back I understand it now.”

Styles has been on the injured list since 11/24 due to a bulging disc in his lower back.

  • Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Sued For Allegedly Stealing Idea For HBO’s “Ballers”

Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Mark Whalberg are being sued for allegedly stealing the idea for their show Ballers on HBO. The former WWE World Champion is an executive producer on the show with Whalberg.

A lawsuit was filed in federal court by Everette Silas and Sherri Littleon, saying they had the idea for a project called Off Season back in 2007. According to TMZ, they claim in 2009 they almost had a deal with Whalberg, Johnson and their manager to develop the project, but it fell apart. They say the reason it fell apart is because Silas and Littleton wanted to be credited as show creators.

Silas and Littleton listed several similarities between Off Season and Ballers, including the plot and location. They also say the title Ballers is ripped from one of their proposed episode titles.

The lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages. A rep for HBO told TMZ the case “has no merit.”

  • Trailer For New Chris Candido Documentary, Tammy “Sunny” Sytch Lashes Out At Candido Family

A documentary on the life and career of the late Chris Candido is set to be released sometime in 2016, and an extended trailer is now available above. Mick Foley, Balls Mahoney and Shane Douglas are among the wrestlers interviewed for the project.

Following news of the project, Candido’s long-time girlfriend Tammy “Sunny” Sytch lashed out at the Candido family on Twitter. She was not asked to be part of the documentary.

Sytch accuses Candido’s brother of being a drug addict, and claims she has never used a recreational drug in her life. She went on to say that “no one loved [Candido] more than [her].” Her claims contradict numerous first-hand stories from wrestlers on YouTube (1, 2, 3, 4) about her cheating on Candido, sometimes in exchange for recreational drugs.

Here’s what she had to say on Twitter:

In addition to her Tweets, Sytch also took to her Facebook to air out her frustrations with being excluded from the documentary:

a message to all of Chris Candido’s family and friends: Go watch the trailer, that his drug addict of a brother made.. it is all bullshit. They NEVER supported him, in anything he did, unless they could gloat about his WWF status… and get free tickets…. I WAS THERE! I lived it with him for 16 years. I was there for the good and bad, and horrible… He died doing what he loved to do. And for 10 years now, I get blamed for not getting him to the hospital soon enough, while the doc reassured me there was nothing I could do. Shame on me. Fuck you all who think otherwise… those who know me, and him, know the REAL story.. so go support a false documentary about his life….and make the family that didn’t give a shit about him, money…..sad bastards, the are. If you remember correctly, I have NEVER tried to profit off of his death, while many others have… MANY! So many “memorial shows”..where did that money go?? not to me!! not to pay his outstanding bills??!! Nowhere, but to the ‘promoter’s pocket’ I wasnt even given an option on his burial… i was told he was being cremated, and had no say b/c we weren’t legally married,,, yeah, that was my “family”.. fuck them all…. Tamara Lynn Sytch

After overcoming his addictions and signing with TNA, Candido passed away in 2005 when a freak in-ring injury lead to a blood clot in his leg.

  • Attendance For Last Night’s TLC PPV, Former WWE Superstar Backstage, More

    – WWE’s TLC pay-per-view on Sunday was a sellout at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The arena was set up to seat 13,800 fans.

    – Former WWE superstar Chris Nowinski was backstage at last night’s TLC event. Nowinski lives in the area, and his Concussion Legacy Foundation works with WWE wrestlers in addition to other athletes with concussions. Nowinski retired from wrestling in 2003 due to concussions, after making his debut only one year earlier.

    – Roman Reigns tweeted the following today, in response to fans in attendance at last night’s PPV who chanted “thank you Reigns” after he beat down Triple H:

  • Preview For Tonight’s WWE RAW: Fallout From TLC, Kevin Owens, & More

WWE RAW takes place in Philadelphia, PA tonight at the Wells Fargo Center and will feature all of the fallout from last night’s WWE TLC 2015 pay-per-view. Here’s the official synopsis for tonight’s episode from WWE.com:

    * With a little help from The League of Nations, Sheamus escaped WWE TLC with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship — a stolen victory that sent Roman Reigns into a destructive rampage that not only laid out The League of Nations, but WWE COO Triple H. After the frustrated Big Dog brutalized The Game last night, will Reigns face severe consequences tonight from The Authority?

    * Despite being well versed in the art of furniture smashing, the ECW Originals are no doubt a little worse for wear after suffering a defeat in their Tables Match against The Wyatt Family at WWE TLC, one night before Raw returns to the haven of hardcore and the birthplace of ECW, Philadelphia.

As The Dudley Boyz, Tommy Dreamer and Rhyno reel from their loss to The Eater of Worlds and his macabre followers, will they make an appearance in the City of Brotherly Love tonight?

    * Kevin Owens might still be calling himself a prizefighter after WWE TLC, but the “prize” portion of that moniker is a little less applicable after WWE TLC, where Dean Ambrose earned a decisive victory over the brawler to become Intercontinental Champion for the first time.

The Lunatic Fringe surely has big plans as he brings his newly won title to Raw, and there’s a good chance Owens won’t like any of them. Grab some popcorn and a soda, WWE Universe: The most unstable Intercontinental Championship reign in history is just beginning.

The dark match for the evening is being advertised as a tag match featuring Roman Reigns and Dean Ambrose vs. Bray Wyatt and Kevin Owens. Tonight’s show will also likely feature an announcement about the main event for Royal Rumble.

Stay tuned to SEScoops.com and the SEScoops app tonight for live coverage of RAW, and all of the latest backstage news surrounding the show.

  • Daniel Bryan Says WWE Should Ditch Part-Time Wrestlers In Favor Of Younger Talent

Daniel Bryan was in Asia last week to promote WWE across the continent. In an interview with Yahoo, Bryan commented on WWE bringing back part-time wrestlers for WrestleMania season, and why he feels younger wrestlers should be getting that TV time.

Here’s what the former WWE World Heavyweight champion had to say:

“Some wrestlers have long careers and wrestle long into their 40s. Sometimes young wrestlers get left off cards like WrestleMania because of old guys coming back,” Bryan said. “In my opinion, if they had brought back guys like Hulk Hogan and Randy Savage back when The Rock and Stone Cold were starting out, The Rock would have never become The Rock, and Stone Cold would have never become Stone Cold.

“At WrestleMania, people still wanna see The Undertaker. This is kind of a balancing act,” Bryan continued. “Although we are bringing back part-time wrestlers like Brock Lesnar and older wrestlers, I would like to see more young guys in higher positions in the card.”

  • Rey Mysterio Signs With Lucha Underground, Season 2 Trailer

Lucha Underground announced on Saturday night on their official Twitter account that Rey Mysterio would be joining the promotion. There’s no word as of press time what the former WWE World Heavyweight Champion’s role in the company will be.

Back in October, Lucha Underground Executive Producer and former WWE writer Chris DeJoseph said on a podcast he would be very interested in bringing in Mysterio.

“If Rey was in Lucha Underground at all that would be amazing,” DeJoseph said. “What can you say about that guy? He is a former world champion and probably one of the most popular Luchadores ever. That would be amazing.”

We’ll keep you posted on the latest as we get it here on SEScoops.com and the SEScoops app.

  • Triple H Media Call Recap

Triple H held a conference call with the wrestling media on Thursday morning to discuss next week’s NXT Takeover: London live special. He spoke at length about NXT, and addressed the recent complaints from both fans and wrestlers about WWE’s current direction. Here are some highlights:

The idea of NXT replacing one hour of each RAW broadcast:

“If the thought would be to do it there that night, then you’re just doing a third hour. Then, it’s not NXT, then it’s not different and not a different feel and flavor. Is there a way to do that? Maybe. I think at the end of the day, three hours – no matter how you do it – is extremely difficult. I’ll be the first guy to admit that if I go to a movie and it’s longer than two hours, then I’m looking at my watch, no matter how good it is.”

On RAW being three-hours long, and dealing with fans’ frustrations:

“We just have to become more disciplined and more creative with how we do things, and how we operate the shows,” Hunter said. “We’ve had some unfortunate situations with injuries and everything else. It’s on us to be more creative and come up with a better format; a better show. We hear people’s frustrations and in a lot of ways feel the same way. It’s fixing it. And, trying to fix it. It is what it is. How we fix it, we’re not 100 percent sure yet. But, we will get there. Trust me.”

If WWE will call NXT talents up to the main roster to help strengthen RAW & SmackDown:

“The thing that I hate doing is, ‘Well, there’s a lot of injuries right now, so we’re going to pull this guy up,’ but then the injured guys will come back and then we’re not sure what we’ll do – now we have too many guys for the space,” Hunter said.

“I hate taking a guy as talented as Finn Balor and saying, ‘You’re the band-aid to hold us over until all these other guys come back and then we’ll see from there.’ If we don’t have that gameplan for when we call these guys up, especially for a Finn Balor, then it’s not the right time. You need to have something in your mind, and hopefully a long-term plan in place that gets them to where you want them to be. At least that would be the goal for me when guys come up.”

  • Photo: Fans Leaving Monday’s RAW Before Roman Reigns/Sheamus Main Event Segment

As previously noted, word hit the internet after Monday’s RAW that a noticeable amount of fans in attendance had left the arena prior to the final segment of the show. To update on this, Reddit user rayp913 shared a photo he took at the The North Charleston Coliseum during RAW, prior to the main event. He wrote:

  • The Real Reason Solomon Crowe Requested His WWE Release

Sami Callihan, who was known as Solomon Crowe in NXT, was released from his WWE contract earlier this month. It now appears he requested the release so he could go out on his own and revamp his image.

According to Pro Wrestling Sheet, Callihan was unhappy with how he was progressing in NXT and the way WWE was using him. He eventually got frustrated and wanted to leave. Callihan reportedly wants to “reinvent his image on the independent scene as one of the best wrestlers in the world.”

Callihan reportedly left the company on good terms and the door was left open for a possible return in the future.

Austin killed the rumors by saying there’s “no amount of money WWE could offer” him to get back in the ring.
