  • WWE Trying To Pin Blame For Reid Storyline On Charlotte, Backstage Heat On Ric Flair

It looks like WWE is in damage control mode after their Reid Flair storyline on last Monday’s RAW. WWE is trying to make it seem that Charlotte came up with the idea, due to the backlash they’ve been receiving.

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that a WWE rep told him on the phone that the angle mentioning Reid was Charlotte’s idea, and that she had been wanting to do it for months. The rep from WWE told him “we really didn’t want to do it, but Charlotte was insistent on it.” Meltzer says the rep was lying to him.

With the bad publicity they’ve started getting from the Reid Flair mention, apparently WWE thinks the best thing they could do is to pin it all on Charlotte and have her take one for the team.

As previously reported, the reality here is that the angle was not Charlotte’s decision, and it came from WWE creative. They re-aired the angle on SmackDown and it’s still up on their YouTube channel as of press time.

WWE was also unhappy with Ric Flair for calling them out about the Reid angle on his podcast.

  • Kurt Angle Is Writing A Second Book And Says This Time It’ll Be “100% Honest”

Kurt Angle was recently interviewed on the In Ring Pop podcast on iTunes. He discussed TNA, his future plans, and how his new autobiography is different from his old one.

Here are some highlights from the In Ring Pop podcast:

    On his autobiography:

“Book just signed with a publisher. Did first book but was rushed and now I get to talk about everything. This will be solely my take. In WWE, they protect you on everything you say and if they thought there was a possible lawsuit you had to change the story and the name and it got to the point where I’m reading my book thinking, is any of this true? Not that everything was false but everything was a little changed or twisted so this time I get to do the whole thing and be 100 percent honest.”

    TNA Tour:

“Talk about destiny! My contract literally expires on the last day of the U.K. Tour. God did that for a reason. Our biggest and best fans are from the UK and we only come once a year and these happen to be my final matches, it’s my retirement from TNA, it’s a great feeling to know it’s going to be here and in front of thousands of fans instead of hundreds it’s a big deal for me.

It’s nice to be able to leave but I’m gonna miss these guys, been with them for 9 years and they’ve treated me extremely well, I was in WWE for 7 years, had a great run there, unfortunately due to health, I just couldn’t keep up with the 300 days a year. I didn’t have the option of a lesser schedule they wanted me to continue full time. I just couldn’t do it. So I had to ask for release and thank god Vince gave me that option, I came to TNA and I’ve enjoyed my career there just as much as I did WWE. I’ve had some of best matches here, last year against Bobby Lashley, validated for me that I could do as much at 46 as I could at 32 it was a good feeling.”

    Manchester:

“The best city is always between Manchester and London, it all depends on how your booked. Like last year my main event wasn’t in Manchester, it was in London but if it were the opposite then Manchester would be the city. Those 2 cities are the best cities, Manchester is every bit as good as London as far as the fans and the excitement we get from the crowd even when I was in WWE, it was the same.

I always remember the arena because we can park our bus in the gates and the catering is the greatest out of any city or country! We always look forward to the catering in Manchester, it’s crazy!”

Manchester spoken word event next week:

“This is new to me, I’m kinda nervous I don’t know what people are gonna ask me. Manchester United asked me to come visit and I said yeah, I get to meet some of the players, they gave me the option and any time I can do that, the success you guys have had in football here is as popular as US football and I always want to meet the guys who make it so successful so it will be fun. They are also welcome on the tour! I would love that, can you tell them?!”

It is a Q and A show, are there any questions he gets bored of?

“It’s not boring but it’s hard, what is my favourite match? It changes and I would have said my first world title against The Rock but then last year I wrestled Bobby Lashley and I validated that I was just as good now and so that became my favourite, so it does change quite a bit. You can’t deny the Wrestlemania moments, knowing that 2 million people are watching worldwide. It’s the most special moments whether it be Shawn Michaels, Brock Lesner, Eddie Guerrero or Chris Benoit.”

Who will he be wrestling on the UK tour?

“I Love Bobby Lashley but what about the uk guys that I haven’t wrestled yet and what if TNA were to bring AJ styles back? There are lots of options and I’d also like a rematch with EC3”

    On Wrestlemania:

“The wrestlers spend a week in that city, they go over the match every day, I’ve done that every year except, the year that I wrestled Shawn Michaels. Shawn and I just got to know each other I didn’t even know what kind of match I was going to have with Shawn but he was so damn good we didn’t go over anything except for 1 move. I just wanted to see if I could lift him out of a key lock over my head, we just practised that, the rest of the week we just got to know each other. I didn’t feel pressured and that was my best match ever and rightfully so – it is Shaw Michaels, he’s not called Mr Wrestlemania for no reason.”

    India:

“Looking forward to that, never wrestled there, it’s a country that’s starving for wrestling, hopefully we can do shows that will allow them to come for free, I think we owe that to them. I know in the past WWE have gone over there and didn’t draw because it costs money so it would be great for them to get in for free and watch us.”

    Retirement plans:

“Have fun, travel, move – go to Cali for a week then Florida for a week seeing how it looks what we wanna do, spending time with wife and kids as not been able to do that for 15 years, this past years been a blessing as been with TNA part time. Just signed with Hollywood and just signed with Bellator to do commentary for them.”

    Acting:

“Have a movie scheduled in March called ‘Epidemic’. Ive done 20 reads this past year and didn’t get 1. That’s the way it is, it takes time and practise and I’m very optimistic about it I love acting. Not looking at action as much as comedy or drama, more emotion so hopefully I’ll get to go down that avenue rather than down the ass kicker shooting a machine gun and beating some guys up.”

The former WWE champ also mentioned recently he may take a fight against Ken Shamrock for Bellator MMA in 2016.

  • Taz Speaks On Traveling With WWE & Vince McMahon’s Work Ethic

In an interview with Sports Illustrated, Taz talked about traveling with Vince McMahon and what his work ethic is like. He mentioned that only wrestlers are allowed to sleep on WWE’s plane coming back from TV tapings, while Vince and the other staff stay up working late into the night.

“I had the opportunity for so long to travel every week on Vince’s plane,” said Taz. “Michael Cole and I would travel with Vince and the writers because we had to get back to Connecticut to do the voiceovers for Smackdown, so I got to see Vince behind the scenes 30,000 feet in the air. He’d be sitting there at one in the morning, on a flight from Anaheim to New York, while everyone was struggling to keep their eyes open, and he’d be working non-stop.”

“I’ve seen Triple H fall asleep on the plane, and it wasn’t a problem. I fell asleep on that plane many a time and it wasn’t a problem. If you took some bumps and you fell asleep, it was no problem. If you’re a writer or a play-by-play announcer, it was going to be a problem. It was never mean-spirited, it was like high school with money. It was fun.”

  • Trish Stratus: It’s Time For Divas To Headline A WWE Pay-Per-View

In a blog post on her official website, Trish Stratus gave her thoughts on Paige and Charlotte getting the main event spot on Monday’s RAW.

“I’m just enjoying the fact that we are having conversations about women who are killing it in male dominated sports,” Stratus wrote. “And, to see it cross over to the squared circle like it did last night was incredibly smart timing on WWE’s part. A big congrats to Paige and Charlotte for earning their spot in the main event. A well-deserved accomplishment that they both proved to be ready for.”

The WWE Hall of Famer went on to say the Divas and the fans are both ready for WWE’s top female talent to headline a PPV.

“Next, it’s time for us to see ladies on the current roster get a main event spot on a PPV card – it’s clear they’re ready, and so are we. Besides, putting their top athletes into the main event spot is what WWE does, gender shouldn’t be a factor.

Here’s to more kick assery in and out of the ring, and to more ladies fighting to show we deserve the same respect, recognition and opportunities as our male counterparts in the same industry. Lord knows we fight/work just as hard for it!”

Trish was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2013 at the age of 38, making her the youngest inductee ever.

  • Taz Says Ronda Rousey vs. Holly Holm At UFC 193 Was Fixed, And Rousey Was In On It

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2PS-lmNw0Yk

Former, WWE, ECW and TNA star Taz said on his radio show that the fight between Ronda Rousey and Holly Holm at UFC 193 was fixed. He went into detail on his theory, saying UFC president Dana White used an age-old wrestling business strategy.

“Why are some people not seeing this? This has been done in the wrestling industry for years,” said Taz. “A guy or girl is going to take a break or go away, or has an injury that they have to tend to, whatever the reasons are, and they’re a champion – you take the championship off of them. You do not want your champion sitting home or making a movie, ‘Roadhouse 2′?, or whatever Rousey’s going to do, or just needs a personal break, which she’s earned. This girl’s earned it. But you don’t want that person sitting home for five, six, seven months with that championship. It’s bad for business! Take the belt off her!”

“If you look at the actual K.O. – now, she did get nailed, Rousey, with several shots before the finish of the fight. Nothing that was like ‘oh my god,’ but she got popped a few times. But if you look at the actual knockout, as Rousey, she went for kind of a lazy punch or something – not lazy but she kind of missed – and as she spun to turn around her back was kind of turned to Holm. And as she slowly turned, a high round kick, I believe it was the left foot, or left leg of Holm, catches Rousey, drops Rousey, and then Holm grounds and pounds for three shots – boom, boom, boom. Ref gets in the middle, fight’s over, new champion Holly Holm.”

“I’m telling you right now, that whole series, was the work. And I’m not sure who was in on it and who wasn’t but I know this much: the ref probably wasn’t in on it. Maybe he was I don’t know. Rousey was in on it – and again, this is all my opinion. Holm might not have been in on it.”

The Taz Show airs weekdays from 7 AM to 9 AM Eastern at play.it/the-taz-show/.

Ten years ago today, former WWE champion Eddie Guerrero passed away from heart failure in a Minneapolis hotel. One of his best friends and fellow WWE alumni Dean Malenko recently spoke with The Sun to remember Guerrero.

On his match with Guerrero at WCW Starrcade ’97:

“We’d always try different things every night — see what worked, what didn’t work. And we fell into something, some kind of move – and the place started going crazy.

“I grabbed Eddie in a rear chin lock, and he goes: ‘Listen to the crowd! They’re going nuts!’

“I looked over my right shoulder into the audience, and everybody’s looking up into the tiered seating. There was a girl who had lifted her shirt off and was well-endowed and entertaining the menfolk there in the crowd. So I turned to Eddie and said: ‘This is what they’re popping on, buddy.’

On Seth Rollins using the frog splash:

“Seth [Rollins] had a match with Kane and he hit a frog splash off the top. And the crowd responded by chanting Eddie’s name, and it gave me goosebumps.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Te2v_EV9xd4

Hulk Hogan was recently interviewed by Radio Yorkshire to promote his upcoming one-man show in the UK. The WWE Hall of Famer, who famously turned heel in 1996 with the NWO, was asked if he thought John Cena could pull off a major heel turn of his own. Here’s what Hulk had to say:

“Yeah, I mean, God, I hate to keep saying it, “Never say never.” With Vince McMahon’s machine and the WWE and the writers and John Cena’s talents. With his talent alone, if he were to turn heel and WWE let him go, let John go and pull that edge out of John. Ooh boy, he’d be a good heel!”

  • Tommy Dreamer: Dean Ambrose Should Be The Next WWE World Heavyweight Champ

In a recent interview with Busted Open Radio, Tommy Dreamer made it clear who he thinks should be the next WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

“Me personally, I think Dean Ambrose is the guy,” said Dreamer. “I think Dean Ambrose has the people’s – the people are behind Dean Ambrose. There’s an underdog way and there’s also that star way and both – to me honestly, Dean Ambrose should be the guy and it could then have Roman Reigns be like, ‘That was supposed to be my spot’. Now you’re totally flipping the switch and making Roman Reigns the jealous guy, you know, and if you want to go further down layers, you could have an awesome beat-down. Here comes, let’s say, the Wyatt Family. Let’s say they get all back together and then who comes out of his injury? Seth Rollins and then you have The Shield back together again. Because we never really had the big Shield vs. the Wyatt Family, which I thought should’ve been a WrestleMania match. They should never have touched.”

Dreamer was there to promote his company House of Hardcore. Busted Open Radio airs on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 2-4pm ET on SiriusXM 93 and on the SiriusXM smartphone app.

Last week on Twitter, Dixie Carter replied to a fan who said TNA should be back on Spike TV. She teased that something may be the in the works, writing “I hear you, stay tuned.”

TNA is reportedly in talks with a couple different networks with greater viewership than Destination America, but it doesn’t sound like Spike is one of them. According to PWInsider.com, no one at Spike TV has heard anything about TNA returning. • Jim Ross Questions WWE’s Wyatt Family Booking, Gives Championship Tournament Prediction

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross has answered some new messages from his fans in the Q&A section of his website. Here are the highlights:

On WWE booking Undertaker & Kane to squash the Wyatt family on TV:

The heels have to retaliate in some manner or you are right inasmuch as there is now no real reason for the match.

On the WWE World Heavyweight Championship tournament:

If booked wisely and executed in a big way by the talents, several new talents could benefit by being in the tournament. Based on the recent trends of WWE booking I have no idea where the tournament is going. I like a Corporate Champion IE Reigns winning and facing Lesnar who wins the Royal at WrestleMania.

On if The Great Muta will ever wrestle in WWE:

I guess that one never says never but Muta’s knees are shot. Perhaps a one off some day but that’s iffy.

  • The Undertaker Booked For Monday’s RAW, Segment Possibly Cut From SmackDown

    – WWE is advertising The Undertaker for Monday Night Raw in Greenville, SC. PWInsider.com reports that the creative team’s decision to add The Undertaker to Monday’s show, which is the go-home show for Survivor Series, was just made on Tuesday at the SmackDown tapings.

The Undertaker and Kane are advertised to face two members of The Wyatt Family in a tag team match at Survivor Series, but Bray Wyatt has yet to reveal which two members of the Wyatts will be in the match.

    – A copy of Thursday’s episode of WWE SmackDown has surfaced online, and it reportedly does not show The Undertaker’s segment with King Barrett. This could mean it was just a dark segment for the live audience at the taping in Manchester, England. The pirated copy of the show cuts to a backstage promo then a commercial right where the ‘Taker segment would have been.

  • Kurt Angle Says Kayfabe Needs To Return, Speaks On Why Vince Pushed Him As A Heel

Kurt Angle recently sat down with the Nottingham Post to promote his “Golden Truth” public speaking tour, where he’ll tackle any questions from his fans. Here are some highlights from the interview:

Kurt Angle on why Vince pushed him as a heel early:

“Vince wanted me to look like somebody that was just too good to be true. I didn’t think they would boo me but Vince knew they would. He saw what happened with the Rock when they tried to push him.

He wanted to do the same thing with me because this time he knew they would boo me. I had no training on the mic or anything like that. I was trained to be a pro wrestler. Vince threw me in the river and watched to see if I would sink or swim. I had a few months in Memphis and I was basically on TV. The top guys – Rock, Triple H, Stone Cold Steve Austin and the Undertaker – they carried me for a year.”

Why kayfabe returning could be a good thing:

“Wrestling is always changing. There is no shortage of talent out there,” he said. “It’s an industry that goes in cycles. It’s a little stagnant now. Something needs to change.

I was talking to my wife about it. I think it would be good to go back to kayfabe. When you lifted the curtain and showed people backstage it was new and intriguing, but if you go back to how it was, it could be the change wrestling needs.”

Angle on the Golden Truth tour coming to the UK:

“It’s something I’m really looking forward to. I’ve got a lot to tell and people can ask me whatever they want. UK fans are great. They’re a lot more intrigued by the backstage element of the business.

They respect the business a lot and hold guys in high regard. I’ve been going to the UK for about 15 years. They really appreciate your effort and that makes you work hard to put on a good match for them.”

He revealed that he will be getting knee reconstruction surgery on Tuesday.

“You know, overall, I think I’m in a pretty good spot,” Rollins said. “Physically, my knee doesn’t hurt. Like, one thing people don’t understand, a common question is, “How much pain are you in?” The ligaments don’t have nerve endings, so, that’s a good thing and a bad thing, but I don’t feel any pain, it’s just a lot of instability in the knee capsule. So, I’m doing a lot of compression to kind of reduce the swelling and stuff like that. Emotionally … could be better. Obviously it’s a tough spot to be in. I’m mostly just looking forward to getting the surgery done and getting better every day.”

He didn’t mention how long he’d be out of action, but with this type of injury you can expect him to be out until after WrestleMania.
