Shayna Baszler Returns To GCW For Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport XI

Baszler is set to return to GCW’s Bloodsport on July 28.

The wrestling world is stunned after Josh Barnett announced that WWE superstar Shayna Baszler will return to Game Changer Wrestling. On April 4, the ‘Queen of Spades’ competed at GCW Josh Barnett’s Bloodsport X against Masha Slamovich. After a successful partnership, WWE has allowed Baszler to compete again for GCW for Bloodsport XI.

Barnett broke the news on his X account. The event will occur at the Roulette Intermedium in Brooklyn, New York, on July 28. He also hyped up her return by adding that she is a natural to the bloodsport concept, as she trained under him during her MMA career.

The Bloodsport XI match card is still being developed. So far, the company has revealed that current TNA Wrestling superstar Mike Santana will take on wrestling legend Homicide. GCW has also announced that ‘Speedball’ Mike Bailey, Slamovich, Akira, and Matt Makowski are set to compete on the show. The addition of Baszler has increased interest in the event, with fans wondering who she will face.

Possible Opponent For Shayna Baszler

Baszler returning for Bloodsport XI has made the possibility of seeing her get a rematch against Slamovich realistic. In their first encounter, both gritty superstars put on a brutal technical match that was well-received by fans. Baszler won after the referee decided that the TNA superstar couldn’t continue due to repeated head strikes. GCW could have them face off again in a rematch to see who is better on July 28.

Another possibility is her ‘Four-Horsewomen of MMA’ ally and friend, Marina Shafir. While Baszler succeeded in her debut at Bloodsport X, Shafir would win the women’s tournament, defeating two opponents on the same card. GCW could make a matchup to pit them against each other for an action-packed showdown.

GCW has plenty of fun options for opponents who can face Baszler. Regardless, the former WWE NXT Women’s Champion’s return to GCW marks another sign that the wrestling world has significantly changed.

How Much Do WWE Superstars On The Main Roster Make?

WWE has been doing record business, grossing $1.32 billion in sales last year. The company’s $5 billion deal with Netflix to bring WWE Raw to the streaming platform in January 2025 will bring another massive windfall of cash. However, many fans wonder how much of that trickles down to the athletes we see on television.

Top Superstars spark bidding wars and command multi-million dollar contracts. Setting aside stars like Roman Reigns, Cody Rhodes, Becky Lynch, and Charlotte Flair, a new report from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter sheds light on the current annual baseline.

According to Dave Meltzer, the current minimum salary for WWE Superstars on the main roster is $350,000 per year. Most wrestlers sign multi-year deals, and you can be sure the top stars on each brand are making far more than the minimum. WWE is in a strong position to make lucrative financial offers to talent. However, there’s a trend emerging that should not be ignored.

Numerous Contracts Expiring

WWE is heading into an interesting dilemma as several featured stars on the main roster contract will expire soon. One of the most significant examples is Becky Lynch, who could be a free agent by the end of the week. As of now, it doesn’t seem they have yet to reach a new agreement.

Another talent that could test free agency is Chad Gable. Although he has been heavily featured on Monday Night Raw and involved in a feud with Sami Zayn, his contract will expire at the end of next week

It’s unclear why so many talent contracts are set to expire so soon. Although numerous superstars are near free agency, they may ultimately re-sign with WWE. Wrestling fans should have more clarity soon as the company must expeditiously reach new agreements with their superstars.

Jordynne Grace Hosting Open Challenge At TNA Against All Odds

All eyes are on TNA Knockouts Champion Jordynne Grace as she prepares to make history. On June 9, she will challenge NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez for the title at Battleground. The important matchup will be the first time an active TNA superstar and champion will challenge for a WWE title.

While Grace is focused on achieving a career milestone, she has announced her title defense at TNA Against All Odds on June 14.

‘The Juggernaut”‘ shared on Sirus XM Busted Open with Tommy Dreamer and Dave LaGreca that she will hold an open challenge for her championship at the TNA pay-per-view.

After Grace revealed that her title match was an open challenge, it immediately caught the attention of Dreamer and wrestling fans. TNA Against All Odds, taking place after NXT Battleground, has people wondering if a WWE talent will accept her challenge.

PWInsider’s Mike Johnson reported that the ongoing relationship between WWE and TNA could extend beyond NXT Battleground. Due to Grace hosting an open challenge, it’s plausible for anyone from the NXT women’s roster to make an appearance. That said, it’s still unclear if that is what’s being planned, and it’s possible TNA could have her face a talent from their roster.

Regardless, Grace’s announcement adds more anticipation for what will happen at NXT Battleground.

Jorydnne Grace On Potentially Becoming NXT Women’s Champion

Grace’s match against Perez will also mark the first time they will compete against each other. ‘The Juggernaut’ noted that they both grew up in Texas but never had the chance to interact. Although it will be her initial encounter with Perez, Grace feels prepared to win the NXT Women’s Championship. She has already decided that she would be willing to compete on any TNA and NXT events if needed as champion.

“…Honestly, I’m prepared to put my nose to the ground and grind it out again. I did it for years when I was on the Indies, so I’m not a stranger to it, and I’m ready to do it again,” said Grace.

The TNA Knockouts Champion will be in for the match of her life when she faces Perez next month. If she is successful, Grace holding both titles would be a historic moment for WWE and TNA.

Marko Stunt Returns The Ring on September 14th

Former All Elite Wrestling talent Marko Stunt will return to wrestling after a one-year hiatus. Stunt has been out of action since January 21, 2023, after a loss to Mike Jackson at GCW Take A Picture. He will compete at A Love Letter To Professional Wrestling, presented by Wrestle ACTION, on September 14.

The announcement was made by an independent wrestling superstar, Brayden Toon, on his X account. Alongside revealing that Stunt will compete on the show, Toon shared a highlight video of the former AEW in-ring work.

As noted in the post, tickets for the event have yet to go on sale. The event will occur at Clements High School in Athens, Alabama.

Before Stunt was advertised for the show, the first talent Toon promoted was Derek Neal on May 20. It seems Toon will announce all participants involved in A Letter To Professional Wrestling on X and will likely reveal more names in the coming days.

Stunt has yet to comment on his upcoming return on social media. However, his comeback will have his fans interested in what’s next in his wrestling career.

Marko Stunt Working In The Independent Wrestling Scene

Longtime AEW fans may recall Stunt being featured in the company alongside Jack Perry(FKA Jungle Boy) and Killshot (FKA Luchasaurus) as a group. He mainly competed in tag team matches on AEW Dynamite, with them in losing efforts. His last match with AEW was a defeat against Serpentico at AEW Dark on October 5, 2021. The following year, he was quietly let go by the company

After being let go by AEW in 2022, Stunt has been solely competing on the independent wrestling scene. He would wrestle for several different indie promotions, including Game Changer Wrestling. Currently, It’s unclear if he has any interest in signing with a promotion.

Hopefully, Stunt’s in-ring return on September 14 will lead to more appearances from him moving forward.

Who Killed WCW Preview Shares Insight on Infamous Lawn Dart Moment

Wrestling fans are in for a treat next week, as Vice TV will air the first episode of the Who Killed WCW docuseries. The project, executive produced by Hollywood megastar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and the creators of Dark Side Of The Ring, aims to share a new perspective on the rise and fall of WCW. The series will air on June 4 and will have four episodes.

Ahead of the premiere episode, the Dark Side Of the Ring X account shared a new sneak peek of what fans should expect. The first look of the series recalls an infamous moment from WCW Monday Night Nitro when the NWO attacked talent backstage. In the clip, fans get a glimpse of the former WCW talent and producers who will be involved, including Kevin Nash, Konnan, and Eric Bischoff.

Here is a look at the preview.

More On Who Killed WCW Preview

Dark Side Of The Ring noted on X that Nash is one of the producers of Who Killed WCW. He has spoken positively about the new docuseries, and it’s known that he would be featured. However, it’s the first time he’s been publicly credited as a Producer.

The clip may be fascinating to fans as the cast touches on how the infamous July 29, 1996, episode that featured NWO assaulting talent backstage came together. One of the highlights from the sneak peek was Nash breaking down the spot where he launched Rey Mysterio like a lawn dart against a trailer.

Nash reveals that Mysterio wanted the charismatic giant to throw him into the window. However, ‘Big Sexy’ nixed the idea, as he was worried that launching him into the window could’ve been fatal. It’s unclear if Mysterio is involved in the show to share his side of the story. That said, it is information that longtime wrestling fans may not have heard.

If the upcoming docuseries can share new information and perspectives not heard before, Who Killed WCW could be very exciting.

Drew McIntyre Teases TNA Involvement: “Door Opens Both Ways”

The ‘Forbidden Door’ is open in WWE after TNA Knockout Champion Jordynne Grace appeared on the May 28 episode of NXT. Grace answered the challenge to take on NXT Women’s Champion Roxanne Perez for the title at NXT Battleground on June 9. After the surprising appearance, both talents from WWE and TNA Wrestling have shared an interest in facing each other on social media.

Several notable names like X-Division Champion Mustafa Ali and WWE superstar Cedric Alexander have pitched on X facing each other after Grace NXT’s debut. While fans are also pitching dream matches from both companies, Drew McIntyre has officially put his name out to go through the ‘Forbidden Door.’

On X, ‘The Scottish Warrior’ shared a picture of himself holding the TNA World Heavyweight Championship and wrote “Doors Open Both Ways.”

Longtime TNA fans may recall that McIntyre had a successful run with the company from 2015 to 2017. The crowning moment of his TNA career was when he won the TNA World Heavyweight Championship by defeating Matt Hardy on an episode of Impact Wrestling on March 15, 2016. ‘The Scottish Warrior’ held the title for almost three months before dropping it to Bobby Lashley at TNA Slammiversary on June 12.

McIntyre’s interest in working with TNA again makes fans curious whether WWE will allow him. The cocky superstar is currently involved in a feud with WWE World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest and will challenge for the title at Clash At The Castle next month. WWE may keep McIntyre focused on preparing for his homecoming event.

Regardless, one TNA talent has responded to his post.

TNA Champion Welcomes A Match With Drew McIntyre

In response to McIntyre’s tease, TNA World Champion Moose warned him about wanting to cross over. Moose shared a photo on X from a win over McIntyre for the Impact Grand Championship on an episode of Impact Wrestling on March 2, 2017.

McIntyre has yet to respond to Moose’s comments, but it does create intrigue for a potential rematch between them. It’s unclear what WWE and TNA have planned beyond Grace challenging Perez at NXT Battleground. However, the online interactions between WWE and TNA talent are exciting fans for what is to come.

Ethan Page Claims He Hasn’t Signed With WWE Yet

The wrestling business is buzzing after Ethan Page shockingly made his debut on the May 28 episode of WWE NXT. After three years signed to All Elite Wrestling, Page left the company on May 2. ‘All Ego’ seemed interested in testing free agency and is still booked for independent wrestling shows. However, based on his appearance last night and a report from Fightful Select, it’s believed that he has signed up with WWE

Page dramatically ended the recent WWE NXT episode by assaulting world champion Trick Williams. It’s also worth noting that his attack from behind on Williams led to the champion clashing heads with Lash Legend.

Page revealed he was responsible for attacks on Noam Dar and Oro Mensah backstage. Afterward, he delivered a running knee to Williams in the corner and posed with the NXT Championship as the show went off.

Ethan Page Denies Being Signed TO WWE

It seems WWE is leading to a potential match with Williams as soon as NXT Battleground on June 9. However, Page has spoken out in a video on X, claiming he isn’t signed to WWE. He touted the media attention that the company received over his shocking debut and how this gave him leverage for a deal. Page also called on the company and NXT champion to reach out if they want a deal done.

“…Contrary to popular belief, Ethan Page is not signed to any company or any contract, and I’m going to just assume that Trick Williams would love to get a little payback and revenge on Ethan Pag, so NXT, I’m going to leave this to you,” said Page.

He ended the video by saying that the ball was in WWE’s court to get a deal done.

What’s Next For Page?

Although Page has downplayed being signed with WWE, this seems to be part of his storyline with the company. He is advertised for a match against Shelton Benjamin for  Prestige Wrestling on July 12. Despite still being promoted for an independent wrestling event, WWE could allow him to finish the dates he’s committed to working.

The next storyline development should come on the June 5 episode of WWE NXT. Williams will likely address his attack and want revenge on Page. It’s unclear if the company plans to have them compete at NXT Battleground, but it will make fans interested to tune in on next week’s episode.

Alexa Bliss Downplays Her Link To WWE’s QR Code Mystery

WWE fans have questions for superstar Alexa Bliss after the recent episode of Monday Night Raw. Bliss has been out of action for over a year. Her last match was a loss against Bianca Belair at WWE Royal Rumble on January 28, 2023. She would take time off for the company soon after, and it was revealed on November 27, 2023, that she and her husband, Ryan Cabrera, welcomed their first child

As WWE continues to tease the re-emergence of Uncle Howdy and his new family, it has been speculated that Bliss may be involved. In the past, she was involved in a storyline with Windham Rotunda (AKA Bray Wyatt), and the company seemed to be teasing that she would be a part of a storyline with him yet again before his untimely passing last year. The new storyline of Uncle Howdy is reportedly led by Rotunda’s brother, Taylor Rotunda(AKA Bo Dallas), who will try to continue the character’s legacy.

Uncle Howdy has slowly revealed that he wants to assemble a group, with the speculation that Bliss could return as a member. The teases have ranged from cryptic messages to videos from QR codes that fans try deciphering. WWE has also been leaving easter eggs during their weekly shows to build anticipation for Howdy and his faction’s official appearance. As of now, Howdy or his alleged group have been seen on TV.

However, fans seem convinced on the May 27 episode of Raw that they spotted Bliss backstage.

Where Fans Believe Alexa Bliss Was Seen

During the show, Sheamus had a segment in the ring where he called out Ludwig Kaiser. The ‘heel’ would appear on the Titantron from backstage to reply to the ‘Celtic Warrior’ instead of coming to the ring. After being fed up with Kaiser, Sheamus went backstage to confront him.

At this point, when Sheamus makes it past ‘The Gorilla Position’ to find Kaiser, fans notice a blond female wearing black and white pants who looks like Bliss. The moment is brief, but the female is seen talking with someone as Sheamus walks past her. Although WWE hasn’t commented on who the individual was, fans seem convinced it was Bliss.

In response to fans questioning her on social media, Bliss has poured cold water on being backstage.

Bliss Downplays Monday Night Raw Appearance

Bliss has chimed in on the speculation about her possible involvement in WWE’s ongoing QR code mystery. For now, she’s claiming to be unaware of what’s going on.

In response to one fan inquiring about Bliss’ ties to Uncle Howdy and the surrounding characters, she replied with the infamous Mariah Carey “I don’t know her” meme.

Another fan replied to her comments with a grainy image of the figure who some theorize is the former Women’s champion. Bliss joked that she’s not as fit as the unknown figure.

“I mean, I wish I was in that good of shape “

Despite downplaying that the person backstage wasn’t her, fans don’t seem to buy the excuse. It’s possible that the female wasn’t Bliss. However, it’s also likely that even if it were Bliss, she wouldn’t say not to ruin her eventual return.

It seems fans will have to wait longer to get official confirmation of Bliss’ comeback to WWE. If she is a member of the Uncle Howdy faction, it doesn’t seem like fans will have to wait too much longer.

Dax Harwood Comments On Four-Year Anniversary With AEW

Fan-favorite tag team FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) has officially been with All Elite Wrestling for four years. They debuted with the company during an AEW Dynamite episode on May 27, 2020

After a frustrating run with WWE, AEW presented new opportunities for Harwood and Wheeler. The decision to leave WWE proved to be the right one for their careers, as they’ve cemented their legacies under the ‘All Elite’ banner. Harwood took a moment this week to commemorate their anniversary with AEW.

Thanks to the haters

Dax expressed his gratitude and also let off a few ‘live rounds’ at former wrestling personalities who have been negative about the company they’ve helped build.

“…Sometimes, online, I get a lot of flack for either defending AEW too often or being soft when it comes to criticism of the company. Mostly by ex-wrestling personalities, who now have an outlet to speak and use AEW for clicks & likes, which is completely ironic because they all hope for the very worst for the company that they monetize the most from.”

Although the AEW superstar didn’t name anyone specifically, he has recently had issues with former WCW President Eric Bischoff, and his negative comments could have been aimed at him. Regardless, Harwood took the time to thank AEW for being with them for four years and how much they meant to his career.

“…Without this company, I doubt I’d still be in wrestling. All I ever wanted was to do something GOOD for pro wrestling. That was never going to happen without AEW,” wrote Harwood

Accomplishments

Since joining the company, FTR has won the AEW Tag Team Championships twice. They’ve also added the Ring of Honor, AAA, and IWGP tag team titles to their remarkable list of accomplishments. Harwood continued to reflect on what FTR has achieved thanks to AEW.

“…I’ve become a 10(time) World Tag Team Champion. I’ve won numerous awards from internationally reputable organizations. Above all, I’ve made a living that takes care of my family(Yes, I know I say it all the time) incredibly well, all because of AEW,” Harwood posted.

He also added that he defends the company and AEW President Tony Khan out of passion for his career. On potentially their last deal, FTR seems content with finishing their career in AEW and putting on excellent tag team matches. Harwood is already looking to enjoy the rest of his time with the company and be around to see AEW succeed 40 years from now.

For this moment, FTR can appreciate four great years with the company as they aim to show why they are one of the best tag teams in wrestling every week.

Damian Priest vs. Jey Uso Title Match Is Happening Before WWE Clash At The Castle

WWE is on the road to Clash At The Castle premium live event next month. The show is expected to be headlined by WWE World Heavyweight Champion Damian Priest defending his title against Drew McIntyre. The crucial matchup will be the ‘The Scottish Warrior’ opportunity to win the title in his hometown. However, in Madison Square Garden, it seems Priest may have spoiled that Priest will remain champion.

On X, MSG advertised that Priest will defend his title against ‘Main Event’ Jey Uso at Friday Night Smackdown on June 28. It’s worth noting that it’s possible this could be a dark match instead of taking place on the show.

While the match is also subject to change, it seems Priest could be holding the title after Clash At The Castle. It will be his second championship defense, so it’s possible WWE may not be ready to end his reign. Priest has also set up a potential matchup with 2024 King Of The Ring winner Gunther at WWE SummerSlam on August 3.

Gunther Earning Title Opportunity & More Talent Teasing Heavyweight Championship Match

Gunther earned a WWE World Heavyweight Championship match by defeating Randy Orton in the finals of the King Of The Ring tournament. On the May 27 episode of Monday Night Raw, ‘The Ring General’ celebrated his win and had an in-ring segment with Priest. However, the face-off didn’t last long as McIntyre came to the ring to interrupt them.

After a brief encounter on the microphone, Braun Strowman came to the ring to confront Priest. The ‘Monster Among Men’ would go on to defeat Judgement Day member JD McDonagh afterward. The champion would later tease that he would if Judgement Day can’t handle Strowman or anyone giving them issues.

Priest has his hands full with McIntyre at Clash At The Castle, but it seems there are a few challenges, including Uso, who is in line to face him for the title.

McIntyre still has a chance to reclaim the WWE World Heavyweight championship. However, MSG advertising a title match between Priest and Uso isn’t an encouraging sign.

Tony Khan Wants Bryan Danielson To Stay In AEW Forever

The final countdown is on for Bryan Danielson’s full-time wrestling career. The All Elite Wrestling superstar plans to work as a part-time talent later this year to spend more time with his family. Although he is committed to finishing his run as a full-time wrestler, fans are curious if he’ll stick around with AEW when the deal is up for renewal. However, it seems AEW President Tony Khan fully intends to re-sign Danielson to keep him with the company.

In an interview with CBS Sports, Khan shared that he wants to keep ‘The American Dragon’ in the company forever.

CBS Sport’ Shakiel Mahjouri transcribed the following quotes.

“I would like Bryan to stay, in a perfect world, forever here in whatever capacity he’d stay with us in,” Khan said. He continued, “I’d hope that Bryan would finish his wrestling career here. I would do anything to make that happen. I want Bryan to stay with us wrestling as long as possible. I know that he’s talked about an exit from full-time wrestling, which is what he’s been doing this year whenever he’s been healthy.”

The AEW President continued the interview by praising Danielson’s career in the company and sharing his commitment to keeping him long-term.

“…I think Bryan Danielson fits on AEW like a glove. As long as he will consider wrestling with us, that door is always open. I would bend over backwards for him and do anything for Bryan Danielson.”

Khan’s public declaration of wanting to re-sign Danielson should reassure AEW fans, as the beloved superstar’s contract is set to expire soon.

When Does Bryan Danielson Contract Expire?

Danielson has shared openly that his current deal will end ahead of AEW All In on August 25. Despite his contract expiring beforehand, ‘The American Dragon’ wants to compete at the event and AEW WrestleDream on October 12

Although a new agreement hasn’t been signed, Khan hopes Danielson will stay with AEW.

“…I don’t know whether he’ll be wrestling full-time after that, but I really hope Bryan will stay with me here in the office forever… I talk to Bryan pretty much every day whenever I can. So I hope that will continue for the rest of our lives,” said Khan

It’s unclear if Danielson will consider testing free agency after he finishes his commitment. For now, he is focused on making the most out of the current AEW run and wrestling matches that fans won’t forget.

MLW Battle Riot VI Sells Out In Atlanta

Major League Wrestling is enjoying an excellent run of sold-out shows this year. They’ve celebrated selling out their MLW Azteca Lucha event in Cicero Stadium in Chicago, Illinois, on May 11. The show did so well that the company will host another pay-per-view event, Lucha Apocolypto, at the same venue in November. While it seems Chicago could be a hot market for MLW fans, the company may have found another.

On X, MLW has announced that tickets for Battle Riot VI have sold out. The event will occur at the Center Stage Theater in Atlanta, Georgia, on June 1. Although the show is sold out, fans can watch the event for free on the MLW YouTube channel

More On MLW Battle Riot VI

MLW Battle Riot VI will have several exciting matches on the card, including MLW World Heavyweight Champion defending his title against Tom Lawlor. However, the match that many fans may look forward to the most is the 40-Man Battle Riot VI Match. Like in past years, the battle royal winner will get an MLW World Heavyweight Championship opportunity in the future.

MLW has slowly started to reveal the participants that will compete in the battle royal on X. The company has announced only 20 competitors so far that will be involved. It’s very possible they will not reveal all the talent in the match until the day of the show.

As of now, MLW has announced several prominent names like Matt Riddle, Sami Callihan, and Místico, who will try to win the 40-Man Battle Royal. Another surprising name added was Golden Globe Award Winner Paul Walter Hauser. It’s unclear when the winner will get an opportunity to challenge for the world title, but all superstars will do their best to be a future contender.

WWE Smackdown Preview (5/24): King & Queen Of The Ring Semifinals, Bayley vs. Chelsea Green

Tonight’s episode of WWE Friday Night Smackdown will set the stage for the King and Queen Of The Ring premium live event. The episode will occur at the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Ahead of tomorrow’s PLE, Smackdown will host two matches to determine who will move on to the finals of the King and Queen Of The Ring.

One of the featured matches of tonight’s episode will have Randy Orton take on Tama Tonga in the semifinals of the King of The Ring tournament. While the match order can change, it’s expected that the match will be the show’s main event.

Orton earned his spot in the semifinals by defeating Carmelo Hayes on the May 17 episode of Smackdown. The former WWE NXT Champion pushed Orton to his limit and was close to stealing the upset victory. However, ‘The Viper’ showed his experience and landed an RKO to move to the next round. After the win, Orton called out Tonga and the rest of the Bloodline(Solo Sikoa and Tanga Loa) to declare that he’d destroy the faction.

Although the former WWE Champion feels confident, he will have his hands full taking on Tonga. The newly signed superstar has shown to be a threat to the roster and has his family at his side to aid in his victory. Despite the odds, Orton will aim to connect with his RKO to eliminate Tonga from the tournament.

The Rest Of the Card For Tonight’s Episode Of Friday Night Smackdown

The other tournament match on the show will have Bianca Belair face off against Nia Jax. Both earned their spot in the semifinals in last week’s episode. However, Belair comes into the match battling a knee injury(in storyline) after defeating rival Tiffany Stratton in the quarterfinals.

Jax will try to take advantage of injury to move on to the finals. Belair has shown she can defy the odds, but Jax may be too much tonight. That said, Belair’s tag team partner, Jade Cargill, has unfinished business with Jax and could come out to support the ‘EST of WWE.’

Tonight’s episode will also have WWE Women’s Champion Bayley taking on Chelsea Green in a non-title match. The champion hopes to silence Green and stay busy as she awaits her next challenger.

As the go-home show to tomorrow’s PLE event, tonight’s episode of Smackdown will be essential to see who will be eligible to be the next King and Queen Of The Ring.

Ivar Shares His Thoughts On Working Singles & If Viking Raiders Will Ever Break Up

WWE superstar Ivar has enjoyed a successful run as a singles competitor this past year. His Viking Raiders tag partner, Erik, is currently sidelined with a neck injury, and it’s unclear when he’ll return. Although WWE has presented Ivar as a tag team wrestler, he was allowed to compete by himself and flourished on the main roster.

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet during WrestleMania weekend, Ivar reflected on having to work singles. He noted that he had experience in Ring Of Honor when Erik was dealing with another injury.

“… When we were in Ring Of Honor, we got put as a team. We’re catching fire, and then he gets in a motorcycle accident and tries to ruin my wrestling career. So, here now, I got to do singles stuff in Ring of Honor. So then I get a big push in Ring Of Honor. I’m wrestling the main event of the pay-per-view for the title, and he returns and tries to ruin my wrestling career again,” said Ivar jokingly.

Ivar On If The Viking Raiders Will Split Up When Erik Returns

Despite the success of his singles run in WWE, Ivar doesn’t plan on breaking up his tag team with Erik.

“…We’re a package deal and just like the New Day(Big E, Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods) is a package deal. I feel like we’re a package deal,” said Ivar.

Vliet pointed out in response that the Usos had the same mentality for a long time and split up last year. However, Ivar downplayed the idea and explained why the Viking Raiders won’t ever break up.

“…I feel in my heart that we are a team, and we’re in this together. We wouldn’t be where we are today without each other, and I feel just like the new day, we’re not going to split up for anything,” said Ivar. He added, “Maybe each of us has singles stuff on the side, but we’re a team forever.”

Ivar’s singles career has recently been put on hold as he is dealing with an undisclosed injury. It’s unclear when he’ll return, but he’ll aim to keep the Viking Raiders spirit alive until Erik reunites with him.

WWE Employees Cut After TKO Merges WWE & UFC Live Event Teams

WWE has let go of more of its staff following the recent TKO Group Holding announcement. It was revealed this morning that TKO has decided to merge WWE and UFC live event teams to create more corporate synergy. WWE and UFC have begun collaborating more and are looking to host events in the same city.

While TKO is focused on combining the strengths of both companies, it has led to WWE firing longtime staff members. A few hours after TKO’s announcement, Fightful Select reported that WWE had fired several employees. At this time, talent is not involved in these cuts.

The report shared that one of the employees let go from WWE was Senior Vice President Of Entertainment Relations Kristen Prouty. She worked for the company for over two decades, and Fightful noted that she played an essential role in getting WWE United States Champion Logan Paul signed.

WWE or TKO has yet to release a statement on the recent firings. While it’s possible the cuts could be unrelated to the TKO announcement today, the timing is very interesting.

More On WWE Shakeups After Merging With UFC

After WWE and UFC merged last year, wrestling fans have been curious about how it would affect WWE moving forward. Fans have seen both WWE and, notably, UFC star Michael Chandler appear on opposite programming during live shows.

TKO is slowly trying to utilize WWE and UFC to generate profitable live event results.

A recent example is WWE NXT’s next premium live event, Battleground, taking place at the UFC Apex Facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, on June 9. Tickets have gone on pre-sale on AXS, and the venue looks to add a different experience that could make it appealing to WWE fans.

Another example of WWE and UFC showing their strength is the UFC advertising bundle packages for an upcoming UFC Fight Night event and a Friday Night Smackdown show at the KFC Yum! Center Arena in Louisville, Kentucky, next month.

TKO will likely try to find more ways to unify the assets of WWE and UFC. However, the hope is that more longtime WWE employees aren’t fired due to these changes.

Bryan Danielson Hailed As “One Of Tony Khan’s Best Hires”

Bryan Danielson’s full-time wrestling career is slowly ending this year. He shared in 2023 that he plans to take a step back from wrestling more to spend time with his family. While he is still expected to continue his wrestling career, it’s unclear if he’ll make sporadically appear for AEW moving forward.

Ahead of his upcoming match at AEW Double or Nothing on May 25, legendary commentator Tony Schiavone praised Danielson’s run with the company. On his podcast What Happened When, Schiavone spoke highly of Danielson and explained why he is one of AEW President Tony Khan’s best hires in the company’s history.

“…Bryan Danielson was one of Tony Khan’s best hires as far as a talent is concerned for a number of reasons. Number one because of his performance and number two because he just has great ideas and he is a great leader and he also knows talent, said Schiavone.

He continued, “…He can pick out out talent. He can pick out guys that he thinks, ‘Hey, we need to use them a lot more, and so he is so valuable to this company for everything.”

What’s Next For Bryan Danielson?

‘The American Dragon’ will team with Darby Allin and FTR (Cash Wheeler & Dax Harwood) to take on The Elite (Jack Perry, Kazuchika Okada, Matthew Jackson & Nicholas Jackson) in an Anarchy In The Arena match. Danielson hopes to gain a victory for the ‘Babyface’ group as they try to humble The Elite.

Although Danielson’s focus is on AEW Double Or Nothing, fans are monitoring the countdown to the end of his current run with the company. He has shared that his contract with AEW will expire before All In on August 25.

Danielson hopes to compete at the Wembley Stadium event and AEW WrestleDream on October 12. It’s possible Danielson can reach a new deal or an extension before shifting to being a part-time performer.  Regardless of what will come in August, all eyes will be on Danielson this weekend as he prepares to bring chaos against The Elite.

Mercedes Moné Prepares for AEW Debut with Help from Ex-WWE Wrestler

All Elite Wrestling superstar Mercedes Moné puts in extra work at the gym as she prepares for her in-ring debut. The ‘CEO’ will have her long-awaited rematch against AEW TBS Champion Willow Nightingale for the title at AEW Double or Nothing on May 25.

The rematch against Nightingale marks Moné’s first match since she suffered an ankle injury in their first encounter at New Japan Pro Wrestling Resurgence on May 21, 2023. The former IWGP Women’s Champion has shared that the injury was so severe it could’ve ended her career. Luckily, she recovered and will be motivated to get her revenge at the upcoming AEW pay-per-view.

Ahead this very important matchup, Moné has shared that she’s training with former WWE superstar Sidney Akeem (FKA Scrypts).

Moné has been honing her skills and shaking off the last traces of ring rust at the House of Champions Pro Wrestling Training Center in Seminole County, Florida.

Mercedes Moné & Sidney Akeem’s History

Longtime WWE fans may recall that Akeem has worked with Moné. He started his WWE career as Reginald, working for Carmella as a sommelier/ ringside manager in 2020. During this time, Carmella was involved in a feud with Moné, and Akeem would get involved in trying to aid his client unsuccessfully.

Akeem also competed against Moné in a losing effort on the January 22, 2021, WWE Friday Night Smackdown episode.

After the feud with Carmella ended, Akeem and Moné teased working together. However, Moné felt she didn’t need him, and they went their separate ways.

WWE recently decided not to renew Akeem’s contract after it expired on June 1. He has since started to look for opportunities on the independent wrestling scene. It’s interesting timing that Akeem and Moné have reunited as he prepares for his next career path, and she looks to avenge her last defeat. Akeem debuts for Game Changer Wrestling next month.

It seems in the end, they’ll need each other to accomplish their next career goals. For Moné, she’ll need to be at her best if she hopes to dethrone Nightingale at AEW Double or Nothing.

More WWE Content Coming to Netflix, Plans For Next Saudi Deal & More

WWE has been doing incredible business since merging with UFC to form TKO Group Holding. After the official formation on September 12, 2023, WWE has achieved groundbreaking deals, including their $5 billion deal with Netflix. While their flagship show, Monday Night Raw, will stream exclusively on the streaming service in January 2025, it seems Netflix may have more plans for WWE.

TKO Chief Operating Officer and President Mark Shapiro recently spoke about the future of WWE at the annual J.P Morgan Global Technology, Media, and Communications Conference. In his speech, he touched on WWE’s deal with Netflix, and there are discussions of doing documentaries on WWE superstars. He also noted that the popular streaming service may do a behind-the-scenes series with WWE, like Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive.

Postwrestling’s Andrew Thompson transcribed the following quotes from Shapiro.

“…I think the very first genre you’ll see out of WWE in terms of ancillary programming will be a Drive to Survive show. That’s contemplated for the first season, and we’ll also do some documentaries, probably on a few of our superstars, said Shapiro. He continued, “Our current deal is up at the end of the year for WWE, but I would expect to see a Drive to Survive-type show next year to go along with the first of our live telecasts.”

WWE legend The Undertaker recently floated an idea about WWE legends having roasts on Netflix after the success of NFL great Tom Brady’s live show. Shapiro shared that the streaming service does seem to have more roasting events planned for the future. However, it’s unclear if Netflix wants to do a WWE-style roast when Monday Night Raw joins the service in 2025.

TKO President On WWE’s Next Deal With Saudi Arabia

Along with a promising update on the WWE’s deal with Netflix, Shapiro also commented on the company’s agreement with Saudi Arabia. WWE will host their upcoming King and Queen Of The Ring premium live event on May 25 at the Jeddah Super Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The TKO president shared that an expansion of the WWE deal with the country in the next 6 to 12 months.

“You’ve seen us monetize site fees with the likes of Saudi Arabia for WWE. You can look for us to expand our current deal in the next 6-12 months. Very happy with M.B.S. (Mohammed bin Salman) and the partnership we have there. We have two events a year, but we’re already in discussions,” said Shapiro.

The TKO President also mentioned that WWE President Nick Khan is leading the conversation with Saudi Arabia to host more events in the country. The current deal is expected to end in 2028. It’s unclear how long the company wants to extend its contract with Saudi Arabia, but TKO isn’t slowing down and is continuing to seek lucrative deals for WWE.

Cody Rhodes’ Quest to Become a WWE Grand Slam Champion

WWE Undisputed Universal Champion Cody Rhodes is on top of the world as he prepares for his second title defense. ‘The American Nightmare’ will put his gold on the line against WWE United States Champion Logan Paul at WWE King and Queen Of The Ring this Saturday, May 25.

Since the matchup was announced, Rhodes has expressed interest in becoming a Grand Slam Champion, a bucket list goal he’s only one win from achieving. Rhodes has held every championship in the company except for the WWE United States and World Heavyweight Championships. Fans expected both titles to be up for grabs, with Rhodes teasing the stipulation on social media. However, in the storyline, Paul issued a new contract excluding his title from being defended. Despite ‘The Maverick’s’ underhanded tactics, Rhodes signed the deal to make his title defense official for the upcoming premium live event.

Grand Slam Goals

Rhodes appeared on Busted Open Radio on Monday morning, where he shared that he was surprised by Paul’s move to have his lawyer issue a new deal ahead of their match. Despite this, he is fully prepared to defend his championship and hopes to become a WWE Grand Slam Champion before he retires.

“…Normally, I think anybody would be frustrated because we’re all chasing titles. We’re all chasing accolades, but this is the top of the pyramid for WWE. Just objectively, this is what sits at the top, and everything else is beneath it,” said Rhodes.

He added, “…Logan not taking his title out of the equation did not make me near as mad as it would have had this not been the prize on the line and again, the Grand Slam Championship eludes me, but I got time left on the contract. I can seek it out as I go.”

Rhodes aims to retain his championship against Paul this Saturday at the Jeddah Dome in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.  While he should be the favorite to win, it’s unclear what ‘The Maverick’ has planned for their match. Paul has shown that he is willing to cheat and involve his friends to secure a victory.

In his most recent match, Paul had famous influencer and streamer IShowSpeed interfere to help defeat Kevin Owens and Randy Orton at WWE WrestleMania 40 on April 7. Rhodes must be extra cautious about who is at ringside to keep his championship.

A win for Rhodes on May 25 could put him in line to challenge for the WWE United States Championship. However, he must stay focused on successfully defending his title and be prepared for whatever underhanded tactics Paul has in store.

WWE 2K24 ECW Punk Pack Review: Excellent Start To Season Pass

WWE 2K24 fans can rejoice as the series has released the ECW Punk Pack from their Season Pass. The latest downloadable content features ECW legends The Sandman, Terry Funk, and The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray Dudley & D-Von Dudley). It also spotlights WWE fan favorite CM Punk, who returns to the video game series after his last appearance in WWE 2K15.

When WWE 2K24 was revealed on January 22, fans wanted Punk to be playable at launch. Unfortunately, the game’s roster was already set, and the developers decided to make him a part of their DLC.

The beloved wrestling game offers fans the option to buy Season Pass for $39.99 or the ECW Punk Pack as a standalone for $9.99. I’ve played with the new characters from the DLC enough to share my review, which I’ll rate from 1 to 10.

WWE 2K24 Delivers On The Realism

As the case for the base game, WWE 2K developers did an incredible job making each wrestler from the DLC look stunning. The game captures each character model to look as realistic as their counterparts.

For example, Punk looks like he is currently on TV, with great detail, from his tattoo to the greys in his beard. I was also pleasantly surprised by how much care the developers put into each character’s entrance. It’s very noticeable when Punk comes out on the stage and does his signature pose; the fans chant his name loudly as they do each week on TV.

Another fun detail is when The Sandman makes his entrance and smashes a beer can on his head; he starts to bleed like he did during his career. Unfortunately, he doesn’t make his signature walk from the crowd but instead comes from the stage. It’s unclear why the developers could not add this feature to his entrance. However, I appreciate that they try to make The Sandman entrance unique.

WWE 2K24 may have its issues, but it undeniably does a great job of capturing the performers realistically. Each ECW Punk Pack character model makes me appreciate how far wrestling games have come over the years.

Move Set For Each Character Is Great

One of my concerns was if WWE 2K24’s latest DLC would include the signature move set of each character. For the most part, I can say that the WWE 2K developers did a great job of getting the in-ring moves with a few omissions.

The noticeable move missing from my playthrough with The Dudley Boyz was not having their popular assisted Diving Headbutt to the groin. It would’ve been nice if fans would’ve been able to recreate a move that is signature to their style. However, the 3-D is in the game and could be done from the corner. Another excellent inclusion for longtime Punk fans is that the Pepsi Plunge(Avalanche Pedigree) is his super finisher in the game.

I wish certain moves were included with each wrestler. However, it’s not enough to bring my enjoyment down from playing with them. The WWE 2K developers captured most of their signature and think fans will appreciate what they put into the game.

Conclusion

I think WWE 2K24 ECW Punk Pack is an excellent start for Season Pass. Fans may complain about specific decisions, like The Sandman’s entrance, that don’t capture each character to their fullest potential. That said, I enjoyed playing with the addition to the already-loaded roster and can’t wait to play against other gamers online or local with them.

This DLC sets the tone for what fans should expect for the following four packs later this year. Hopefully, they can also deliver as well as the ECW Punk Pack for character detail and signature moves.

I give WWE 2K24’s latest DLC ECW Punk Pack a 9 out of 10.

WWE 2K24 DLC: ECW Punk Pack Preview

WWE 2K24 will be adding new content as they roll out their first of five downloadable content from Season Pass. On May 15, fans who purchased the Season Pass for $39.99 will have access to WWE 2K24’s ECW Punk Pack.

The upcoming DLC will add CM Punk, Terry Funk, The Sandman, and The Dudley Boyz(Bubba Ray Dudley & D-Von Dudley) to the stacked game roster. Fans who bought will also receive new My Faction content, with a pack of cards including an ECW version of Paul Heyman as a Manager.

WWE 2K24’s ECW Punk Pack will mark the first time in a few years that all five characters have been in a WWE gameFor The Sandman, it will be the second time he will be playable in a WWE video game since his debut in Smackdown vs. Raw 2008. While fans will appreciate playing with some of their favorite ECW legends, Punk will likely be what many players will look forward to in the game.

Punk hasn’t been in a WWE game since WWE 2K15 in 2014. After he made his return to WWE last year following a turbulent tenure in All Elite Wrestling, fans hoped that he’d be in WWE 2K24. The game’s developers considered fans’ requests to add him for the first DLC swiftly.

Next week will be rewarding for fans who bought the Season Pass as WWE 2K24 has previewed the looks of each new character ahead of the launch.

WWE 2K24 ECW Punk Pack Character Models

In the lead-up to the official release of WWE 2K24’s ECW Punk Pack, fans have been given a sneak peek at how each character looks. The developers have done a great job making each wrestler look realistic to their actual counterparts. It’s noticeable that the developers were also selective in choosing which version of the characters they wanted to use in the game.

For example, a fan on X/Twitter pointed out that the WWE 2K24 version of Funk may be inspired by his appearances at ECW Barely Legal from 1997. However, The Sandman and The Dudley Boyz character models are from their time in the WWE. It’s unclear why the WWE 2K developers choose not to have each ECW legend be a version of what they were during their time in the company.

That said, each character model looks impressive and shows the evolution of video gaming to make each wrestler look realistic.

Overall Ratings

In addition to sharing a special look at each character in the upcoming DLC, WWE 2K24 has also released their overall ratings. The developers wanted to ensure they gave the correct stats based on wins/losses and championships when making decisions. This new strategy has led to some interesting comparisons as The Sandman (86) has a higher overall than the likes of Booker T(85), Harley Race (84), AJ Styles (85), and others.

Among the ECW Punk Pack characters, Punk has a higher rating at 90. The second highest overall is Funk, with an 87. Unfortunately for D-Von, he was awarded the lowest of the group at 84 overall.

It’s worth noting that the game’s roster still has talent active in WWE below each DLC playable character’s stats.

Conclusion

ECW Punk Pack should be a welcomed addition to the current WWE 2K series installment. The new content may urge fans to jump back into WWE 2K24 to play with Punk or Funk.

SEScoops will have a full review for the upcoming DLC update next week. You can also check out our review for WWE 2K24

Although the underdog, Cavernario will try to pull off an upset to end Mistico’s reign as MLW World Middleweight Champion. The odds may not be in his favor, but Cavernario can push Mistico to his limit.

Elsewhere on the card, MLW National Openweight Champion Ricky Shane Page will put his title on the line against Bad Man Tito. Adam Copeland On Being ‘Really Close’ To Signing With AEW In Late 2019

After signing with them late last year, Adam Copeland is having a career resurgence in All Elite Wrestling. He is currently the AEW TNT Champion and is competing against great wrestlers he’s never faced before in the company. Although AEW fans are enjoying his run, they could have seen him on the roster a lot sooner than 2023

In an interview with Chris Van Vliet, Copeland shared that he was in talks with AEW in late 2019 and almost joined then. At the time, he was trying to get medically cleared to wrestle after retiring from wrestling in 2011. While he was having talks with WWE about returning, he admitted that he had great conversations with AEW and was “really close” to signing with them.

“…So when I first started talking with AEW, I wasn’t yet cleared,” said Copeland. He continued, “…I still wasn’t cleared by company doctors, right? So once all of those clearances started to come, I was like, Oh, this is real now. Okay. So before I did anything, I had to go kind of get the final clearance needed for either company, and I had negotiated with everybody.”

Ultimately, Copeland had a sit down with former WWE Chairman Vince McMahon, and he was able to convince him to make his return at the WWE Royal Rumble on January 26, 2020. He acknowledged that he had no regrets about signing with WWE because of the moment he had made his entrance in the match.

Copeland would stick around with WWE for over three years before jumping to AEW on October 1, 2023.

Adam Copeland On What’s Next After AEW Contract Expires

Copeland’s contract with AEW is a multi-year, full-time deal with the expectation that it will expire in 2026. Although he looks in great shape at 50, he is still uncertain if he will wrestle after his deal ends.

In the interview, he shared that he is balancing his career and family life well. That said, it will depend on how he feels when it’s time to renew.

“…If I can keep performing at a level, but more importantly on a level I can feel proud of. I just don’t want to get to a point where I’m really struggling, and it’s just pulling teeth to get it done. I don’t want to do that, and thankfully, I’m at a point in my career where I don’t have to do that,” said Copeland.

The AEW TNT Champion also mentioned how he hopes his work ethic can be a life lesson for his daughters and that he can inspire them. That said, he also wants to make sure he is there for them, and thankfully, his schedule hasn’t impacted his family time.

Copeland is having fun and is motivated to compete with the best in AEW. For fans wondering about his future, he seems open to re-sign if he can still compete at a high level and manage his life outside wrestling.

Monday Night Raw To Stay On USA Network For Fourth Quarter of 2024

WWE is heading into new territory as they prepare to stream Monday Night Raw on Netflix in 2025. The $5 billion deal was made on January 23, with fans curious and skeptical about the brand moving exclusively to streaming.

While the company plans to move to Monday Night Raw off TV, fans became aware that its deal with USA Network would end in September. WWE not having an agreement in place would’ve left the brand without a home until January 2025 to Netflix. However, TKO Group Holding has announced that they have reached a new deal, a $25 million deal with NBCUniversal, to keep Monday Night Raw on the USA Network for the rest of the year.

TKO shared their 2024 first-quarter results today and revealed that Monday Night Raw would stay on the USA Network for the fourth quarter of 2024. The deal will also allow NBCU Universal to have Monday Night Raw and Friday Night Smackdown on the network later this year.

It’s unclear if WWE may have considered other possible suitors to host Monday Night RAW later this year. However, this may be a win for fans as both brands will be on one network until Monday Night Raw moves to Netflix. It will also allow fans to slowly transition from cable to streaming to watch their favorite superstars on the Raw brand.

More On WWE’s Move To Netflix Next Year

WWE’s decision to move to Netflix will be game-changing as they hope to bring the same weekly audience to the streaming service. CBS News’ William Lankford reported earlier this year that Netflix has over 200 million subscribers, with 13.1 million added by the end of 2023.

Netflix’s decision to add the WWE flagship show will be interesting as it aims to compete with other streaming services, like Amazon Prime Videos, for live sports. While other platforms have a season or games of a sport, Netflix will benefit from having Monday Night Raw every week.

WWE’s new deal with NBCUniversal has secured the future for the rest of the year. The company will have to figure out if they can get fans to watch their brand on streaming in 2025. However, the $25 million agreement has given them time to get their audience to follow Monday Night Raw’s transition to Netflix.
