6 Takeaways From AEW Dynamite (12/4)

AEW Dynamite aired live form the State Farm Center in Champaign, Illinois tonight. In addition to the takeaways below, Ray Fenix defeated Trent in a very solid match tonight on Dynamite. It was also announced that The Young Bucks will face Santana and Ortiz next week in a Street Fight.

Here are 6 takeaways from the show:

AEW’s Audio Issues Detracted From The Opening Match

The Young Bucks & Dustin Rhodes battled Santana & Ortiz and Sammy Guevara in the first match of the night. Once again, the audio was all screwed up at the start of the show. One cannot claim that NXT is the minor leagues when All Elite Wrestling has not figured out their audio issues for weeks now.

The Young Bucks dominated the match early as muffled “AEW!” chants could be heard through the audio on the broadcast. Matt planted Sammy Guevara with several German Suplexes. Inner Circle battled back and isolated Matt Jackson. Dustin hit a Crossbody onto Inner Circle as the audio was finally fixed ten minutes into the show.

Sammy Guevara hit Dustin with a 630 Senton but Rhodes kicked out at two. Nick tagged in and connected with a Bulldog on Sammy. Matt leveled Sammy with a Spear. Nick hit Ortiz with a Superkick as Sammy brought Matt back into the ring. Sammy started vlogging and went for a Shooting Star Press but leaped right into dueling Superkicks from the Young Bucks. Young Bucks and Rhodes hit a Senton/ Piledriver combo for the pinfall victory.

While this was a fun match, it is inexcusable for AEW to still have these issues with the audio. AEW clearly wanted to start this show off with a great match but the audio issues made it a tough watch.

    Cody Challenged MJF

Cody joined Tony Schiavone in the ring tonight on Dynamite. Cody pointed at the scar above his eyes and said it serves as a reminder of his failure to capture the AEW Championship.

Rhodes brought up The Blade and The Butcher attacking him last week and how nobody is around to help him. Cody suggested a match against Butcher and Blade and added that they can even pick his partner.

Cody stated that he needs to wrestle MJF and claimed that his scarf is fake and joked that he does the worst Cross Rhodes in all of wrestling. Cody said that MJF was nothing but a NWO version of Chris Jericho.

He then said that MJF could have his truck, his watch, his shoes, and a briefcase full of money for a match. Cody added that he still believes MJF is the future but an education is a passport there. Cody stated that all MJF has to do is name his price for the match to happen.

Cody had another excellent promo tonight and this feud with MJF should be very entertaining. MJF responded to Cody with a video posted on social media. MJF stated that he bought the assistance of Bunny, Butcher, and Blade and boasted about winning the Dynamite Diamond ring. MJF bragged about costing Cody his chance at the title and announced that he will pick Cody’s partner in his upcoming match against Blade and Butcher. It was later announced that Cody’s partner will be QT Marshall.

Jericho Will Face Jungle Boy In Two Weeks

AEW Champion Chris Jericho came down to the ring with Jake Hager to begin the 2nd hour of Dynamite. Hager held a bottle of A Little Bit Of The Bubbly as Jericho blasted the crowd for not being as successful as him.

Jericho boasted about 12,000 bottles of A Little Bit Of The Bubbly sold before complaining that he was contractually obligated to have one more match in 2019. Jericho added that because he was champion he gets to choose who is going to face on December 18th.

Chris brought a new list entitled “The Lexicon of Le Champion” and said it was everyone who he refuses to wrestle in 2019. Moxley, Young Bucks, Scorpio Sky, Omega, and Kenny from South Park were on the list. Moxley appeared on the list several more times before the Jurassic Express interrupted.

Jericho stated that dinosaurs and little children were also on the lexicon. Luchasaurus stated that he has a Masters degree in medieval history and that dinosaurs have been marginalized for 65 million years. Luchasaurus added that Marko Stunt is more man than Jericho will ever be.

Chris mocked Jungle Boy Jack Perry for not winning a match in AEW and called him a piece of shit. Jericho claimed that Jungle Boy couldn’t last ten minutes with him. Jungle Boy grabbed the microphone and vowed to kick Jericho’s ass and a brawl broke out. Jericho and Hager then retreated out of the ring and Chris threw another tantrum.

Kris Statlander Defeated The #1 Contender

Kris Statlander battled Hikaru Shida tonight on Dynamite. Statlander cartwheeled around the ring and poked Shida in the forehead. Shida hit Kris with a Dropkick as Dynamite went to a break.

When Dynamite returned, Statlander and Shida were battling on the apron. Hikaru hit an Enziguri and followed it up with a running knee of the apron. Back in the ring, Shida hit another Dropkick and went for the cover but Kris kicked out at two.

Shida connected with a Suplex for another near fall. Statlander hit a Clothesline and lifted Shida up in the Electric Chair and dropped her face-first to the canvas for a two count.

Hikaru rolled up Statlander for a two count and followed it up with a knee to the face for another near fall. Statlander battled back and planted Shida with a Tombstone Piledriver for the pinfall victory.

After the match, the lights in the arena went out and Awesome Kong and Brandi Rhodes appeared on the entrance ramp. Brandi said that people loath what they cannot understand because it scares them. Rhodes stated that they make up the Nightmare Collective and told Statlander that she was all up in her business.

Brandi suggested that Kris Statlander join the Nightmare Collective and that she will have a home with them. Awesome Kong and Statlander had a stare down before someone in the crowd shouted that she wanted to pledge. Awesome Kong cut off some of her hair as Dynamite went to a break.

    Pentagon Picked Up A Win

Christopher Daniels battled Pentagon Jr. tonight on Dynamite. Daniels attacked Pentagon before the match on the entrance ramp and went for a Piledriver but Pentagon countered into a Back Body Drop.

Pentagon Clotheslined Daniels back into the ring and the match officially started. Daniels perched Pentagon up on the top turnbuckle but Pentagon escaped. Pentagon connected with a Double Stomp to Daniels’ midsection.

Pentagon planted Daniels with a Slingblade and went for the cover but Chris kicked out at two. Daniels hit Pentagon with a Dropkick that sent him to the entrance ramp. Daniels went for a Moonsault but tripped up and fell on the back of his head. Daniels hit the Angels Wings but Fenix ran down to the ring and distracted the referee. Pentagon capitalized with a low blow and a Piledriver for the pinfall victory.

Jericho Sent A Message To Moxley To Close The Show

Jon Moxley squared off against Joey Janela in the main event of this week’s Dynamite. Joey got in some offense early but Moxley battled back with a Clothesline as Dynamite went to a commercial break.

Janela sent Moxley into the barricade when Dynamite returned. Back in the ring, Moxley slammed Janela to the canvas and posed for the crowd. Janela planted Moxley with a DDT on the entrance ramp and followed it up with a Suicide Dive. Joey climbed to the top rope but Moxley caught him with a punch to the face.

Joey connected with a Crucifix Bomb for a two count. Moxley unloaded several knees to the face and leveled Joey with a Clothesline. Janela slammed Moxley’s head onto the turnbuckle and Jon rolled out of the ring. Joey connected with a Splash off the top rope through the timekeeper’s table and rolled Jon back into the ring. Janela hit an Elbow Drop off the top rope and went for the pin but Moxley somehow kicked out at two.

Janela climbed back up to the top rope but Moxley popped up. Jon connected with the Paradigm Shift onto the top turnbuckle and followed it up with another one for the pinfall victory.

After the match, Chris Jericho’s music hit and Jericho was shown on the steps in the crowd. Inner Circle surrounded Jericho as Chris smirked and raised the AEW Championship to close the show.

This week’s Dynamite was fun to watch and was a much better show than last week’s episode. Moxley interrupted Jericho last week after his victory over Scorpio Sky and Jericho returned the favor tonight. Cody’s promo tonight was excellent and Statlander vs. Shida was a great match. Nyla Rose Powerbombed an official through a table and AEW hilariously spoofed Britt Baker’s crowd shot at WarGames.

The December 18th episodes of AEW Dynamite and WWE NXT are shaping up.

Jericho talked about how had to have one more match before the year was up and was even allowed to pick his opponent. This led to him pulling out a list of names that he wouldn’t wrestle on the show in two weeks.

Jurassic Express came out to the ring and Jungle Boy challenged Jericho, who thought Jungle Boy couldn’t hang with him for ten minutes. Jungle Boy slapped him as a result.

  • Brandi Rhodes Comments On AEW Viewership and Fan Support

Brandi Rhodes Comments On AEW Viewership and Fan Support

The Chief Brandi Officer of All Elite Wrestling, Brandi Rhodes, was recently interviewed by Jonathan Snowden of the Bleacher Report. Brandi discussed a wide variety of topics in the interview, including AEW’s viewership, working with non-profits such as Kulture City, and her role in with the women’s division.

Snowden asked Brandi if AEW is where they want to be in the ratings.

“I feel like I must be missing some of the media articles. I haven’t seen anything with a really dire outlook,” Brandi responded. “We’re good, we’re happy. There’s nothing for anybody to worry about. As long as you guys are happy and continuing to support us, we’re grateful.”

She was then asked how closely AEW management follows the ratings.

“We definitely pay attention to the ratings. Numbers can fluctuate, of course, for various reasons here and there. But one thing that hasn’t fluctuated is the target demographic and that has been very strong for us from day one. TNT watches all of that and pays attention to it. They’ve been pretty happy with how we’ve fared. And that’s all you can really ask for. When they’re happy, that’s a good thing.”

Snowden then asked Brandi where she hopes AEW will be at this time next year.

“We’d like to just continue to grow. We set out at rocket speed. I guess it’s a little unrealistic to think that everything will come easy. It’s just not the way of the world. But if we always continue to have forward motion, I think that we’re going to continue to be successful.”

Brandi goes into detail regarding her current storyline with Awesome Kong, her role with the women’s division and more. The full interview with Brandi Rhodes can be read here.

New AEW Commercial Focuses On Competition With NXT (Video)

A new commercial for AEW Dynamite which aired last night on TNT during the Clipper vs Trailblazers game placed an emphasis on comparisons to NXT.

The commercial features quotes such as “AEW Dynamite buries NXT – the Wrap,” “AEW Dynamite crushes NXT – Comicbook” and “AEW Dynamite trounces NXT – Forbes.”

The commercial can be viewed in the player or Tweet below:

NXT Beats AEW In Ratings 2 Weeks In A Row

While the AEW commercial that aired last night during the Clippers vs Blazers game focusses on AEW beating its competition, the new wrestling promotion has lost in the ratings to NXT two weeks in a row now.

NXT on the USA Network averaged 810,000 viewers for their episode last Wednesday. AEW Dynamite on TNT was watched by 663,000 viewers last week.

After spending the first 7 weeks of the Wednesday Night War on-top, NXT gained the advantage on the 11/20 shows.

NXT on the USA Network averaged 916,000 viewers for the show on 11/20. AEW Dynamite on TNT was watched by 893,000 viewers the same week.

Eric Bischoff spoke about how AEW can improve their ratings recently on his 83 Weeks podcast:

“Let’s be realistic. They are still coming in under a million viewers a week, and they’re coming in under a million viewers a week on a major cable outlet that typically does a bigger number than that. More importantly, they’re delivering under a million viewers a week within a genre, sports entertainment, professional wrestling, whatever you want to call it, that is typically not really an advertising-friendly platform. So while those numbers look good, look great, look fantastic, from a competitive position with WWE, from an ad sales position, particularly in primetime, it’s not a pretty number yet.”

  • Joey Janela Discusses Feedback To His Match With Kenny Omega, Being A Technical Wrestler

Joey Janela Discusses Feedback To His Match With Kenny Omega, Being A Technical Wrestler

All Elite Wrestling’s Joey Janela recently reflected on the reception he received for his matchup against Kenny Omega. The two competed in a Lights Out match on the 10/15 episode of AEW Dark. Despite Janela’s best efforts, Omega would emerge victorious from their encounter.

“The response was crazy. Actually, we were supposed to have a straight up, regular match on Dark. Nothing too crazy and I got the call the night before from Tony Khan, changed it to the f— fest that it became, and me and Kenny, we went 30 minutes which wasn’t supposed to be the case and it was kind of a big match for me and one of the main reasons I signed to AEW was to wrestle Kenny Omega and I got it so soon and it came so sudden,” Janela told POST Wrestling.

“I’m All The Flavors Of Ice Cream”

Although known for his proficiency in hardcore matches, Janela has faith in his technical wrestling ability. He noted how he has been delivering technical matches for a while, pointing to previous bouts with Matt Riddle and Zack Sabre Jr.

“[…] people on the indies know I can wrestle because I’ve done it all in front of these fans,” he said. “But the new fans coming into AEW, see me for the first time—saw me as kind of [a] hardcore, car accident, f— fest, f—g fall off a ladder and kill yourself wrestler which is not the case so now it’s me doing the same thing after I got thrown off that building a few years ago and proving people wrong on a larger scale and convert people and say, ‘Listen, this is not what I’m all about. I’m all the flavors of ice cream all rolled up.”

Joey Janela is set to wrestle Jon Moxley on tonight’s episode of AEW Dynamite on TNT. You can watch his matchup against Kenny Omega in the video below:

  • Cody Says AEW’s Entire Infrastructure Is Public

Cody Says AEW’s Entire Infrastructure Is Public

All Elite Wrestling announced on Monday that Hikaru Shida will wrestle with Kris Statlander in a one on one match. When Cody was hyping this matchup on Twitter, a fan replied to him and said that no one, not even Jim Ross knows who both of these women are.

Cody replied and pointed out that both Shida and Statlander are talented women and that they have been on AEW’s shows before. Shida is in fact at the first position on AEW Power Rankings as of this writing.

A fan then resorted to calling Meltzer Cody’s “boy”, implying that AEW follows the Wrestling Observer and makes their decisions influenced by it. Cody denied that and then the fan replied saying that maybe Cody is not a Meltzer guy, but the owner Tony Khan is, and he is “listening him into the ground.”

Cody explained that the accusation is nonsense and that their entire infrastructure is public. He added that AEW will rise and fall on their own merit. “That’s nonsense,” wrote Cody. “Our entire infrastructure is public. Who’s doing what and so forth. I know that’s a “brand” narrative, but it’s 100% not accurate. We will rise or fall based on our own merit. The right way.”

As reported earlier, WWE’s NXT beat out AEW in the “total viewership” department. AEW had the edge in the Adults 18-49 demographic and actually bested NXT in every demographic group except Adults 50+.

AEW Signs PPV Deal With InDemand, Quarterly Events Through June 2021

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) sent in a press release on Tuesday morning announcing a new long-term partnership with pay-per-view provider In Demand.

AEW’s programming output deal with In Demand guarantees a minimum of one PPV event per quarter through June 2021.

“We’re huge fans of AEW’s exciting wrestling talent and events, and are pleased to partner with them as they continue to build their audience, marketing and distribution,” said Mark Boccardi, In Demand’s SVP, Programming & Marketing. “This commitment from AEW demonstrates that our programming partners see the value in a long-term relationship with In Demand, and with the pay- per-view platform itself. We’re able to offer our content partners the largest distribution reach in the PPV business, as well as customized marketing and promotional support.”

AEW President Tony Khan was also quoted in the announcement.

“AEW pay-per-view events are the best shows in wrestling, and In Demand is a perfect PPV partner for us as well as our fans,” said Khan. “With In Demand’s vast reach and connectivity, we’ll be able to bring all of our AEW pay-per-view shows into the homes of wrestling fans throughout North America.”

AEW’s first pay-per-views have included Double or Nothing (May 2019, Las Vegas), All Out (August 2019, Chicago) and Full Gear (November 2019, Baltimore). The promotion has yet to announce its next quarterly offering, which will likely take place in late February or early March 2020.

  • Eric Bischoff On How AEW Can Improve Their Ratings

Eric Bischoff On How AEW Can Improve Their Ratings

Former executive director of SmackDown, Eric Bischoff, recently gave his thoughts on All Elite Wrestling’s Dynamite and WWE NXT’s ratings and viewership numbers and discussed what the AEW show should do to make their show successful in the ratings department.

On his 83 Weeks podcast, Bischoff said that while the numbers that AEW does, which is under a million viewers a week, look good, they are not that great. At least not for a major cable outlet. They are also not that great from a competitive position with WWE, according to Eric.

Related: AEW Dynamite & NXT TV Viewership (11/27)

Bischoff compared Dynamite to Nitro and said that Nitro had a lower viewership and it grew with time. If Dynamite can grow like that in the coming months then they’ll get attention from other networks and more advertisers.

“It’s a good number, it’s a solid number, and if they can build upon that number and grow it, like Nitro did, and I think here’s a really, here’s a better comparison. I think if you go back and look at the debut of Nitro unopposed, I think we came in around a 2.5 or 2.6, which even back then, represented almost two million viewers, two million plus viewers. But once RAW came back and we were going head-to-head, we were living in that 2.4, 2.5, 2.8, 2.9, 3.0, 3.3, we were growing, our audience was building as opposed to staying flat, and what I’ve seen so far from AEW is, they’re numbers are essentially flat.”

“If AEW can go from where they are now which is, I think the last week I looked at was around 950,000 viewers or so, if they can start building upon that where six months from now or a year from now they’re at 1.5 million, now you have a viable business because other networks are going to look at that and go, ‘Wow, that audience is growing.’ If they’ve gone from 950,000 viewers on average, fluctuations week to week, but over the course of six to eight months they’ve built upon that 950,000 and now they’re doing 1.2, 1.3, 1.4, kind of like Nitro did, now they actually have something that’s real. But until that happens, it’s still kind of a wait and see for me,” Bischoff added.

He also talked about WWE NXT ratings and said that he doesn’t imagine USA Network being too happy with the show’s numbers, which is around 700,000 to 800,000 viewers. He also added that NXT has a major advantage over Dynamite which is that it is promoted on Raw and SmackDown which are the main shows of the company, but the fact that the numbers are still under a million is disappointing, according to Bischoff.

  • Jon Moxley On His AEW Debut During Double Or Nothing

Jon Moxley On His AEW Debut During Double Or Nothing

Jon Moxley’s debut at Double or Nothing is undoubtedly one of the biggest moments in the history of the company and many believe that it will go down as one of the most iconic moments in the history of wrestling.

During his recent interview on the State Of Combat podcast, the former WWE Champion discussed a number of things and also reflected on his AEW debut.

Mox admitted that his surprise appearance at the Double Or Nothing PPV was a very special moment for him because he had been through a rough couple of months and he went into radio silence during the time:

“That was a very special moment for me because that was a rough last couple of months there. I went radio silent. I didn’t say anything about anything even though all of these rumors were coming up everywhere about what I was doing and whether I was going or staying,”

Jon also talked about the days following his WWE departure saying that finally being able to come out and say that he was back felt really weird to him.

Apart from this, Jon Moxley was also asked if he has any ill-will towards his former employers in WWE and he said that now 6 months after leaving the company, he has no motivation left to prove anything to the company.

He went on to claim that his energy is now about creating positive things and there is no chip in his shoulders about showing anything to Vince McMahon.

Here is the breakdown of the live and same-night DVR viewership, courtesy of ShowbuzzDaily:

    WWE NXT Viewership

NXT on the USA Network averaged 810,000 viewers, which is down from 916,000 last week. In the 18-49 demo, they drew a 0.24, down from 0.30 the previous week.

  • Jon Moxley: WWE Creative Was So Bad, I Thought They Were Pranking Me

Jon Moxley: WWE Creative Was So Bad, I Thought They Were Pranking Me

Jon Moxley defeated Kenny Omega in a “Lights Out” match at AEW Full Gear. The match received polarizing reactions from fans, with some loving it and others hating it. According to comments Moxley made to Chris Van Vliet, he was thrilled with the match and the reaction to it.

“I was thrilled with it. I was thrilled with the reaction in the arena, I was thrilled with the people that were uncomfortable,” Moxley said.

When Chris Van Vliet brought up Renee Young’s reaction to the match, Moxley had the following to say.

“She’ll get it though, you know? When you get married to me, you sign up that you’re going to be under a fair amount of stress sometimes. Sometimes I’m going to come home and I just fell down the side of a mountain. Somedays I will come home and I’ll be bludgeoned with barbed wire. This is just how I live my life.”

    His Love Of Death Matches

Moxley also commented during the interview about how he understands not everyone will love death matches that way he does.

“I am unapologetic about my love of, whatever you want to call it, the death match style, the hardcore… I love that stuff. Some of my favorite matches ever are like Big Japan death matches. I understand most people are going to think that’s crap and there not going to want to watch that. I love that stuff.”

He added that there is a reason hardcore promotions are somewhat niche, since a lot of people get turned off by the gratuitous violence. He makes no apologies about enjoying violence in wrestling, but understands it’s not for everyone.

    Is This A Rib?

Jon Moxley has not been shy about voicing his displeasure about WWE’s creative process. His decision to leave WWE was not an easy one and was upset they were “making” him leave because things got so bad. “I was like, ‘I can’t believe they’re gonna make me walk away from all this money! Can’t you write one good f*ckin’ storyline?’”

Moxley says that WWE was pitching such ridiculous storylines for his Dean Ambrose character that he actually questioned if they were pranking him.

“It just got to the point where I’m like, the stuff I described in the Jericho podcast, ‘oh, now you’ll come out in a haz-mat suit,’ it’s just like, ‘this can’t be real. Am I on some kind of reality show? Is this the new WWE Network reality show? Is Vince actually saying these words? Does he actually run a billion dollar company? This is a joke!””

  • Kris Statlander Reportedly Offered Deal By AEW

Kris Statlander Reportedly Offered Deal By AEW

Kris Statlander recently made her debut on All Elite Wrestling’s Dynamite where she teamed up with Hikaru Shida against Bea Priestly and Emi Sakura.

But before she would appear for AEW, Statlander was negotiating with WWE. She was close to a deal with them but hadn’t sent her a contract, and then AEW booked her.

This comes from the Wrestling Observer Newsletter which says that WWE was under the impression that Kris would start with them in January, but ended up working with AEW.

The report says that both WWE and AEW want to work with her, and now that Statlander has made two appearances for AEW, it’s likely she would sign up with them.

“Regarding Kris Statlander, it looks like she’ll be signing here. She and WWE were close to a deal but they had not sent a contract and then AEW booked her. WWE was under the impression she was coming in January and both sides want her. Her working here the last few weeks, and we know AEW is looking to sign her as well, would indicate AEW is the likely final destination.”

Statlander has worked in the wrestling industry for only over two years now and has worked in many independent promotions like SHIMMER, Shine, WrestlePro, Beyond Wrestling to name a few. Apart from the one appearance for AEW mentioned above, she has also worked a match on AEW Dark episode 7 where she teamed up with Big Swole in a losing effort against Dr. Britt Baker DMD & Riho.

Ryback Discusses Why CM Punk Signed With WWE Instead Of AEW

While CM Punk is back with WWE as an analyst on WWE Backstage, there are no plans of him getting back in the ring. Many fans believed that if Punk were to go to a wrestling company, it would be AEW. Punk’s return to WWE was a shock to many and Ryback discussed this matter and gave his opinion on why Punk signed with WWE instead of AEW.

Speaking to Wrestling Inc.’s Raj Giri, Ryback revealed that he believes Punk signed with WWE because the company and FOX have allowed him to give his opinion “shoot on stuff” if he wants to. Ryback also added that this opportunity might get Punk his dream WrestleMania match that he always wanted.

“CM Punk, this weird dynamic, who at one time didn’t want anything to do with pro wrestling is all of a sudden going in and talking about WWE. And like I said, I think it is a weird chess game going on where he is going to go there and shoot on stuff in a more negative way and call bulls**t when he sees it on things that he doesn’t like, and he is allowed to give his opinion on different things. And FOX is going to allow it, where it is going to create a situation where he is going to probably be able to go back and get the WrestleMania main event match that he always wanted. That is what I feel like is going on, and that is why I feel like he didn’t go to AEW,” said Ryback.

It’s known that one of the reasons Punk left WWE was that he never got to headline WrestleMania in a final main event match. Ryback thinks Punk was fed up with not getting a WM main event and was done for good with the company. Ryback says that once you get out of the wrestling bubble you wouldn’t go back and work the exhausting full-time WWE schedule ever again. He compares it to Shawshank Redemption. “It’s like Shawshank Redemption, once you are out, it is a beautiful thing when you are truly free from there.”

Ryback added that there is a weird dynamic going on with Punk being able to come on WWE programming and shoot on what he wants. He believes Punk might have even figured out how to get himself into the main event of WrestleMania.

  • Brian Cage Teases Match Against Kenny Omega

Brian Cage Teases Match Against Kenny Omega

Impact Wrestling star Brian Cage has teased a match against All Elite Wrestling’s Kenny Omega. Cage uploaded a photo with the “Best Bout Machine” to Twitter, accompanying it with the following caption: “Who you got? Where do you want to see it? Why and how soon?” Omega responded to Cage’s tease with a GIF from Terminator 2: Judgment Day.

Both wrestlers were present at Lucha Libre AAA’s Triplemania Regia show. Omega was booked in a match for his AAA Mega Championship. He successfully defended his title against Dragon Lee. Cage, meanwhile, teamed with Puma King against the teams of Taurus and Villano Jr, Bandito and Flamita, and El Hijo Del Vikingo and Aramis.

Omega recently lost a high profile match in All Elite Wrestling to Jon Moxley. The two competed in an Unsanctioned Lights Out match at the promotion’s last pay-per-view, Full Gear. He has since bounced back, picking up a victory over PAC on an episode of AEW: Dynamite. This win puts him and PAC at a win a piece.

Back in October, Cage competed in the main event of Impact Wrestling’s AXS TV premiere. He faced off against Sami Callihan, defending his Impact World Championship. Callihan would eventually defeat Cage after numerous piledrivers, including an avalanche piledriver from the second rope.

  • Dustin Rhodes Talks About Balancing Wrestling And Acting

Dustin Rhodes Talks About Balancing Wrestling And Acting

All Elite Wrestling’s Dustin Rhodes has talked about finding the balance between his AEW duties and his interest in acting. Rhodes is not only an in-ring competitor for AEW, he also assists the company in a backstage role, helping talent with their promo work.

Speaking with Sportskeeda, Rhodes spoke about his long love of performing, whether it’s for a TV show, movie or in the ring.

“[…] it’s juggling the two but it’s a lot of fun and I love it, man, I’ve got to stay busy, I can’t just sit down, I’ve got to keep moving,” Rhodes admitted. “In the acting area, I want to be considered a good actor. It’s great to be an action star and things like that, but I want to be known for acting because I really, really have a deep passion for it so I am giving it a shot. I’ve got a few under my belt.”

Rhodes credits his time and experience in the pro wrestling industry in helping him adjust to his passion for acting. He explained “[…] the biggest advantage I think is time, and I’ve had a lot of time to craft the acting backstage in WWE or AEW with vignettes and promos I have a big leap and an advantage in that area because I know how stuff is shot, I know how production goes and what goes into it.”

He reflected on his time performing as Goldust, and the adaptability he had to develop as the character continued to evolve. Rhodes credited his time improvising in wrestling in helping him to develop skills that have successfully translated to his acting pursuits.

  • Maxwell Jacob Friedman Says He’ll Never Wrestle Cody Rhodes

Maxwell Jacob Friedman Says He’ll Never Wrestle Cody Rhodes

Maxwell Jacob Friedman threw in the towel at AEW Full Gear, costing Cody his shot at the AEW World Championship. Not only did his actions cost Cody the match, as a result of a stipulation he had made before the PPV, Cody can now never challenge for the AEW World Championship ever again.

According to comments he recently made on Twitter, Maxwell Jacob Friedman says he’ll never wrestle Cody.

Full Gear was held on 11/9/19.

The Tweet is in a similar format to a famous one sent by Cody in 2016 regarding his departure from WWE:

The same format was also used by a less ambitious Stu Bennett:

After Full Gear, Cody was attacked by MJF’s new run-in buddy Wardlow on an episode of Dynamite. On the most recent episode of AEW Dynamite, Cody was attacked by the Butcher and the Blade along with Allie. The duo came up through a hidden opening in the ring mat to attack.

    Cody vs Maxwell Jacob Friedman

Cody and Maxwell Jacob Friedman have never faced each other in single’s action. They’ve previously worked as a tag-team together, however. Cody and MJF wrestled Le Tabarnak de Team (Mathieu St-Jacques & Thomas Dubois) to a no-contest at a charity show held in Ottawa, ON, Canada back in August.

    MJF In MLW’s Opera Cup

Friedman will also have to worry about MLW’s Opera Cup from New York’s Melrose Ballroom later this week. The tournament takes place on December 5th and MJF will face Alex Hammerstone in the 1st round.

  • Cody Comments On Randy Orton Using AEW For Leverage

Cody Comments On Randy Orton Using AEW For Leverage

Cody and Brandi Rhodes were recently interviewed at Starrcast IV and commented on Randy Orton using AEW for leverage in his recent contract negotiations with WWE. Orton recently signed a new 5-year deal with the promotion.

“One of the most exciting things about AEW is we’ve been able to raise the pay floor for the entire industry,” Cody said. “So, if Randy wants to take a dumb photo on an elevator and tag people he doesn’t even know in it and if they’re dumb enough to buy it and they pay him a certain amount, good for Randy Orton, you know what I’m saying?”

Cody would continue to talk about Orton in a positive light.

“He’s a good guy, he’s got like 20 kids now, I love it,” Cody said. “I love Randy, I never got to beat him, dammit.”

The discussion with Cody and Brandi Rhodes was recently posted to the Inside the Ropes YouTube page:

Cody actually had 25 attempts to beat Randy Orton in a single’s match and he lost all of them. 13 of Orton’s victories over Cody came on house shows and the other 12 were televised. They only wrestled once on PPV at Vengeance 2011 and the rest of their matches were on either RAW or Smackdown.

Jim Ross Responds To Critics Over AEW Dynamite Segment

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross pays attention to social media closely to not only interact with fans but also get feedback for his commentary of AEW Dynamite.

This past Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite in Chicago, IL at the Sears Centre Arena on TNT saw the debut of The Butcher and The Blade, who are managed by Allie, as they attacked Cody Rhodes.

The only problem is most fans not just watching on television but also in attendance didn’t know who the tag team was. Thus, with the legendary announcer also questioning who they were on commentary, some fans expressed their criticism of it.

Excalibur seemed to know who they are but he did not elaborate. There also wasn’t an explanation for why they attacked Rhodes. As a result, Ross has had enough of the critics, which is why he reacted to it on social media.

Ross took to his official Twitter account to give his reaction by writing:

“Getting my Spaulding’s busted for not knowing who The Butcher & The Blade were Wednesday night on @AEWonTNT (Hate to break this to some but I wasn’t supposed to know.)”

6 Takeaways From AEW Dynamite (11/27)

It turns out that the men are Braxton Sutter, who is best known for working in Impact Wrestling as well as the husband of Allie, and Andy Williams, who is the lead singer of the band Every Time I Die.

  • Chris Jericho On Constantly Evolving, Jon Moxley

Chris Jericho On Constantly Evolving, Jon Moxley

All Elite Wrestling World Champion Chris Jericho was a recent guest on 101WKQX. During their conversation, Le Champion opened about up how he has managed to consistently evolve over time, becoming wrestling’s renaissance man. He also broached Moxley’s recent comments, where he said Jericho was smart not enough not to mess with him.

“You’re constantly evolving, updating and not living in the past. I think that I was never cut out for that,” Jericho said. “I never wanted to do the same thing twice and I know, I feel it, when the time is right to change.”

He continued, “I knew when it was right to change out of ‘Y2J’, I knew with the countdown clock, The List; that’s one of the reasons I’m so excited to be in AEW because I know if I went back to WWE they’d want me to do The List because it’s so popular. It doesn’t fit anymore, you know? It’s one of those things where time moves on and it’s good to always update your act, update your look, update what you’re doing and still obviously pay homage to your history and your legacy, but constantly make it more contemporary. That’s not selling out.”

Jericho spoke about his willingness to drop anything that veers towards nostalgia. He’d rather push forward into unexplored, newer terrain than coast on the past. He believes that his ability to keep changing is what helps his fanbase stay engaged as they’ll never know what he might do next.

    Jericho/Moxley

Turning his attention towards Jon Moxley and his recent comments, Jericho said “I saw it. Well, the thing is—here’s the best part—Moxley is not Dean Ambrose anymore. This is a completely different guy, he’s motivated. He knows exactly who he is and he went through the system in WWE and he wasn’t able to harness and work with it—I was. I could work in WWE for years, because I understand how to take what they want and make it good. He couldn’t do that to that extent.”

He reflected on the feud the two had together in WWE, calling it a “great rivalry” before saying that their matches were a diluted version of what Moxley could do in-ring now. Jericho stressed that all he cares about is telling great stories, teasing that there could be a “great confrontation between us when the time is right.”

Jon Moxley Compares AEW And WWE, Calls Out WWE’s Predictability

It’s been several weeks since the two companies began the Wednesday Night Wars. Having been a prominent part of AEW: Dynamite since its premiere, Jon Moxley recently shared some further insight into the differences he has noticed between All Elite Wrestling and WWE.

Speaking with 101WKQX, Moxley talked about how unpredictable Dynamite can be. He said the name is apropos to the content of the show, comparing it to a powder keg.

“[…] anything could happen,” he said, “whereas in WWE or other promotions maybe, like not trying to throw any shade or anything, but it can be very predictable because they have a formula. Show opens, guy comes out with a mic, talks. Other guys’ music hits, comes out with a mic, talks. We’ve made the main event for tonight or whatever. There’s just these patterns and formulas that you see, and subconsciously you know as a fan what’s happening and you can predict stuff.”

“We don’t have any formulas or patterns yet. One week we open the show with Nick Jackson and Fenix, and you see this ridiculous match. One week we open with a promo, one week we open with who knows? Maybe we’ll open with the World Title match tomorrow night. Maybe Chris Jericho says I’m the champion and I’m going on first. That could happen. I’m not saying that’s happening, it could. You know, I think it’s a great idea. I’m going to text somebody right now. Let’s just open the show, man. World Title. We could do anything.”

Moxley recently defeated Darby Allin on an episode of AEW: Dynamite. The match came to an end after a devastating Paradigm Shift from the second rope helped secure Moxley the win.

  • Jungle Boy Reflects On Doing In-Ring Extra Work, Initially Hating His Ring Name

Jungle Boy Reflects On Doing In-Ring Extra Work, Initially Hating His Ring Name

In a recent episode of Wrestlers On The Road Ordering Room Service, All Elite Wrestling’s Jungle Boy opened up about being an extra in another wrestling promotion. His statement naturally suggested he was referring to WWE. He recalled the feedback the company gave him and also shared how he initially hated the ring name Jungle Boy.

“I did some extra work somewhere else,” Jungle Boy said, hinting at WWE. “And they basically told me, they were like, ‘look,’ they were like, ‘if you put on 30 lbs. or whatever, we will give you a job, but the way it is, it’s not going to happen.’ And I was just so bummed.”

He continued, “I was like, ‘it bums me out that that’s the one thing that it gets hung up on because I know what I can do and I can do a bunch of stuff, but I think there are a bunch of guys who are way bigger than me who are not nearly as good and it’s silly to me to get so hung up on that.”

Jungle Boy confessed how, when he first heard “Jungle Boy,” he felt it was the dumbest name he had ever heard. He stated how a random announcer came up with the name after seeing him soaking wet and “kind of crouching like a monkey” before a show. Crediting the crouch to Conor McGregor, he adopted the same animalistic stance and was attributed the nickname. He reflected on how people liked it, so he went along with it, admitting that the name changed everything for him.

Bea Priestley & Emi Sakura Picked Up A Win

Bea Priestley & Emi Sakura battled Hikaru Shida & Kris Statlander tonight on Dynamite. Statlander Moonsaulted onto Priestley to start off the match and then Dropkicked Emi to the outside.

When Dynamite returned, Sakura connected with a Dropkick on Priestley in the corner of the ring. Bea connected with a German Suplex but Hikaru battled back with a knee to the face.

The Butcher & The Blade Debuted With Allie

Cody battled Matt Knicks tonight on Dynamite. Knicks targeted Cody’s ribs in the beginning of the match but Cody shrugged it off and hit a Cutter. Cody then quickly locked in the Figure Four for the quick submission victory.

After the match, Cody called out MJF but The Butcher and The Blade popped out from under the ring. Butcher and Blade attacked Cody and beat him down. Allie then popped out from under the ring and posed with Butcher and Blade.

The crowd had no idea what was going on and were completely dead for this segment. I’ve enjoyed pretty much every episode of Dynamite so far but the first hour of this show was been a mess.

    MJF Won The Dynamite Diamond

MJF faced Hangman Page for the Dynamite Diamond ring tonight on the show. Wardlow was in MJF’s corner for the match. It was announced that it will be an annual match for the Dynamite Diamond ring.

Hangman knocked MJF out of the ring and went out after him but Wardlow got in his face. Page went around him and continued to beat MJF as Dynamite went to a commercial break.

When Dynamite returned, Hangman hit MJF with a Moonsault outside the ring. Back in the ring, Page set up for the Buckshot Lariat but MJF pulled the referee in the way. MJF poked Hangman in the eye but Page was able to hit a Lariat for a near fall.

Page hit the Buckshot Lariat and went for the cover but Wardlow put MJF’s foot on the bottom rope. Wardlow then hit Hangman with a cheap shot and MJF capitalized by hitting the worst Cross Rhodes I’ve ever seen for the pinfall victory.

Diamond Dallas Page then came down to the ring to present the Dynamite Diamond. MJF put on the ring as the crowd chanted “a**hole!”. DDP told MJF that some of his actions have been very disappointing to him but tonight he is the man. DDP added that since he is the bigger man, he will congratulate MJF like a man. MJF took out his gum and put it in DDP’s hand. DDP got in MJF’s face but Wardlow got in the way. A brawl broke out for a moment but security quickly broke it up as Dynamite went to a break.

Chris Jericho Retained & Jon Moxley Appeared In The Crowd

Chris Jericho defended the AEW Championship against Scorpio Sky in the main event of this week’s show. Scorpio Sky hit Jericho with an elbow to the face to start off the match.

Sky connected with a Dropkick and then bounced Jericho’s face off the top turnbuckle. Jericho leveled Scorpio Sky with a Dropkick that sent him tumbling out of the ring as Dynamite went to a break.

Scorpio Sky hit a Cutter when Dynamite returned for a near fall. Jericho locked in the Lion Tamer but Scorpio was able to reach the bottom rope to break the hold. Jericho started arguing with referee Aubrey Edwards and Sky capitalized with another Cutter.

Jake Hager ran down to the ring and hopped on the apron. Sky knocked him to the floor and turned around into a Clothesline from Jericho. Frankie Kazarian and Christopher Daniels rushed the ring and brawled with Hager.

Jericho tried to hit Scorpio with the title but Sky got out of the way and hit the TKO for a two count. Scorpio Sky connected with an Enziguri and went for the cover but Jericho was able to kick out at two.

Chris Jericho hit the Codebreaker for another two count. Jericho went for the Judas Effect but Scorpio countered into a backslide for a two count. Jericho once again locked in the Lion Tamer in the center of the ring and Scorpio Sky quickly tapped out. After the match, Jericho applied the Lion Tamer once again but Jon Moxley’s music hit. Jon stared at Jericho from the crowd to close the show.

    https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1199885171975245824?s=20

The ending to tonight’s Dynamite was good. Jericho and Scorpio Sky had an entertaining match and I’m excited for a feud between Jericho and Moxley. The story line wont revolve around a potted plant and lead to a ridiculous Ambrose Asylum match this time around.

Overall, I thought this was just a subpar episode of Dynamite. The audio issues during the opening promo simply cannot happen. The Butcher and The Blade debut wasn’t done well at all. Excalibur shouted their names as if everyone should know them while the crowd sat in silence. I’ve complained about WWE having the same matches over and over again, so it would be disingenuous not to point out that we’ve seen PAC versus Omega enough by now. There is plenty to like about AEW but they still have a lot of room to improve.
