First Women’s Title Defense Announced For AEW On TNT Week 3

AEW was back it on Thursday with an announcement for the third episode of their weekly television show on TNT.

The promotion confirmed that the Women’s World Championship will be on the line on this show in Philadelphia on October 16 at the Liacouras Center.

As of this writing, the competitors weren’t announced and that’s expected due to a previous announcement being made.

The promotion will crown its first women’s champion on their TNT television debut. AEW Chief Brand Officer Brandi Rhodes confirmed the news in a statement to Sports Illustrated earlier this month.

Britt Baker, Kylie Rae and Allie, Awesome Kong, and Nyla Rose are just some of the notable members of the roster for AEW.

On Wednesday, AEW confirmed the World Heavyweight Title will be on the line on the third episode as well but those competitors weren’t listed either.

Kenny Omega Discusses ‘Not Being Good Enough’ To Become The First AEW Champion

Kenny Omega is still disappointed over his loss to Chris Jericho at AEW’s Double or Nothing pay-per-view back in May.

Omega is one of the biggest stars and arguably the best pure wrestler on the AEW roster. Many believed he was primed to be the first AEW World Champion. Back at Double or Nothing, he had a chance to make that vision a reality. Omega’s main event clash with Jericho was to determine which man would challenge for the AEW World Championship at All Out.

Unfortunately for Omega, he came up short and it’s Jericho battling Adam Page on August 31st to crown the inaugural champ.

During the latest episode of AEW’s Road To All Out YouTube series, Omega reflected on the loss to Jericho and what it means for his career. After some reflection, he feels he just wasn’t good enough to earn the title shot.

Kenny Omega’s Quest for AEW Gold

Though he then went on to explain that his best performances have always come from behind and his best work has always come when he had to sacrifice something:

“Everyone trusted me to make a statement on that first show. I felt that I was on another level. Something that couldn’t be stopped. but I wasn’t good enough. All I had to do was get past Chris Jericho. I was supposed to be the chosen one. It was the expectation that I would be the champion.

Now I got a lot of work to do. My best performances have always come from behind. My best work has never been because I was handed something, it has always been because I had to work for something, sacrifice something.”

Kenny Omega then went on to thank Jon Moxley because Moxley is the one who will inspire Kenny to evolve and show the world why people call him the best. Omega and Moxley will square off in one of the featured matches at AEW All Out.

Apart from this, the Road To All Out episode also featured Adam Cole’s promo against Chris Jericho at a recent House of Glory Wrestling show and more.

Orange Cassidy Signs With All Elite Wrestling

Popular independent comedy wrestler Orange Cassidy is the newest member of the AEW roster. The announcement of Orange Cassidy signing with All Elite Wrestling was made on the latest episode of Being The Elite.

As seen below, Cassidy was shown putting oranges and an AEW contract into a blender. After mixing up the unusual concoction, a graphic appeared on the screen stating: “AEW: Now serving freshly squeezed Orange Cassidy.”

The New Jersey native made his AEW debut back in May in the Casino Battle Royale match at Double Or Nothing. His quirky, irreverent humor are a good fit for the Being The Elite and AEW universe.

Awesome Kong Talks GLOW Season 3 (Released Today)

Season 3 of Netflix’s hit-series “GLOW” was released today. AEW’s Awesome Kong (Kia Stevens) stars in the show as Tamme “The Welfare Queen” Dawson. She spoke to the Miami Herald recently about the upcoming season.

“There’s something in it for everyone,” Kong said. “It makes people appreciate wrestling, even those who never really enjoyed wrestling before.”

She also noted that she gets recognized more for her work on GLOW than she does from pro-wrestling.

“When I leave my house, more people recognize me,” she said. “Not so much when I have my wrestling braids in, no, but when my hair is regular, they’re like, ‘Oh, wow, you’re on GLOW. This one girl recognized me. All her friends talked to me, but she was too afraid. I thought that was the sweetest thing.”

Kong also noted that she was a fan of the original Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling promotion as well.

“I loved the original GLOW. I actually asked Santa Claus to make me a GLOW girl, when I was little,” she continued. “I watched it every Saturday with my little brother, and we would root for Hollywood & Vine to lose. We thought they were the most evil tag team on earth, and we would love to hate them. We hated them so much.”

Kong also played a role in helping to train the other women working on the show:

“I did, which was a big pleasure,” Kong said. “They gave me carte blanche on the big wrestling scene with Liberty Belle [ Betty Gilpin], which was awesome. Her finishing move came in a dream… I was happy with it.”

MJF & Enes Kanter Trade Shots On Twitter

On October 9th, AEW will present their second-ever show on TNT live from Boston. Off-season free agent pick-up of the Boston Celtics, Enes Kanter is a noted wrestling fan and got into a back-and-forth on Twitter with MJF regarding the show recently.

MJF let Kanter know what he plans to do if the Turkish basketball star shows up on October 9th. He also doesn’t seem too pleased about going to Boston.

Cody then chimed in shortly after MJF posted his Tweet.

Kanter then promised to be live in attendance for AEW on TNT in Boston:

    Enes Kanter and DDP

Cody alluded to Kanter and DDP being a mutual friend. Kanter and DDP recently produced the following video which aired on The Score in Canada. In the video, DDP trains Kanter in pro-wrestling and the pair also work on possible gimmicks for the NBA player.

Enes Kanter Says He’s Serious About Pro-Wrestling

Kanter took part in an interview with VICE last October. During the interview, Kanter mentioned he’s spoken with Vince McMahon and Paul Heyman about making the jump to a wrestling career.

“I’m actually talking to the people over there now. Vince McMahon, he knows me,” Kanter said. “I had dinner with (Paul Heyman) two, three days ago. I asked him how long he’s gonna do this and he said ‘as long as Brock (Lesnar) goes, I go, and then I’m with you.’ I’m like yes! Seriously. I’m really serious about it.”

Nick Aldis Says He Turned Down AEW Offer

NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis recently revealed in an interview that he turned down an offer from AEW. Aldis was interviewed by Daily DDT and said that he counter-offered AEW by requesting to be able to work for both AEW and the NWA.

“I’ll tell you the truth: I was made an offer by AEW. I counter-offered with, ‘I’d like to be able to do both.’ I’d like to work with them because obviously I have great admiration for Cody and the Bucks for what they’ve been able to do,” Aldis said. “But I wasn’t prepared to walk away from the two years of work I’ve done with the NWA. And that was that. I left it open with, ‘If you can find a way to keep doing this and do your show, I’ll do your show.’”

AEW management wasn’t interested in his proposal, however.

“They essentially wanted to offer me a contract and have me walk away from what I’m doing here and I said that doesn’t make any sense to me,” he continued.

Aldis would also say he has a good relationship with Tony Khan as well as Cody and the Young Bucks.

“I’m still on very good terms with Cody and the Bucks and I had a very nice conversation with Tony [Khan] and everyone was aware of it. Billy and Dave were aware of it.”

  • Update On The Elite’s Response To CM Punk’s Comments

Update On The Elite’s Response To CM Punk’s Comments

CM Punk recently took part in an interview with ESPN. During the interview, he implied that offers he has received from those associated with AEW have been via text message and he doesn’t feel this is a good way to do business.

According to a recent report from Wrestling Observer, Punk’s quotes upset some within AEW.

“Some in AEW were upset about the quotes,” wrote Dave Metlzer. “They felt they were dealing up-front in business with him and felt that when people in the company have asked about Punk coming, they’ve always been honest.”

CM Punk Says He Doesn’t Hate WWE, Speculation He’d Go Back

Punk noted during the interview with ESPN that he doesn’t hate WWE.

“People still have that connotation, like, ‘Oh, he hates WWE.’ And it’s just like, no, I’ve let all that go, and I’ve let all that go so long ago. But there are people that hold on to that. They still think or want me to be who I was. I’m not who I was yesterday. This is my journey, this is my odyssey.”

Based on the above comments Punk made during the interview with ESPN, there are some within AEW who evidently feel Punk could end up back in WWE.

“On the AEW side, there are those who think that, based on this interview, that maybe he’s going to WWE,” Meltzer continued.

Cody noted in a Tweet that he thinks it’s possible Punk ends up back there as well.

  • Cody Discusses The Relationship Between AEW And TNT

Cody Discusses The Relationship Between AEW And TNT

All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is preparing for their next event All Out. Shortly after their pay-per-view, the company will be debuting their television show on TNT.

Speaking with SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, Cody has discussed AEW’s approach to working with TNT. He asserted that the promotion doesn’t work for TNT, but instead works with them in a joint effort to create something new for wrestling fans.

“We can look at it like we are answering to them or we are working together with them,” he said. “I learned right away how good of a partner Warner Media and Turner was going to be when I was tying Matt Jackson’s tie in the back of a car service taking us to the Upfronts to the carpet where we were going to announce our show, and they tweeted that fire graphic and wrote that ‘Wrestling is returning to TNT.’ Since then, we couldn’t have asked for a more finger-on-the-pulse partner.”

    Working With, Not Answering To

Cody explained that no one currently working for the Warner Media Group was there during WCW. Cody considers this a “massive blessing” as there has been no pre-existing grudges or misconceptions of what pro wrestling is or should be.

He also spoke about the current president of TNT, Kevin Reilly, and how he supports AEW’s mission.

“He has listened and looked at all of us in the eye and has asked us what is important to us. What is our passion about? What makes us different than any other wrestling out there? He likes our mission,” Cody stated. “Our mission is sometimes more popular than any wrestler on the card. The vision of what this is and the fact that there could be something else on television, there could be this alternative. So, yeah, I look at working with them instead of answering to them, and they have been wonderful in this build to the very first TV.”

Before that, however, is All Out. The fallout from this event on August 31st, which includes crowning an inaugural champion, will no doubt lay the groundwork for the promotion’s storylines ahead of their television debut on October 2nd.

Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy On Their Goal As A Tag Team

Both Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy were originally signed as singles competitors by AEW but the two hit it off with each other. Seeing the positive crowd reaction, AEW Officials have now also started pitching them as a tag team.

The duo were part of a recent episode of the X Pac 1,2,360 podcast where they discussed a wide variety of topics and they also revealed their goal in the company now that they are being presented as a tag team.

The interview started with Jungle Boy talking about his first match with Joey Janela. He admitted that he was nervous before his match because every bout Janela wrestles is like a PWG match.

The duo then talked about their pairing as a team after initially being presented as singles competitors. Representing the two, Luchasaurus discussed their goals as a team and said that they would like to wrestle the Young Bucks:

“I mean obviously we would love to wrestle the Young Bucks, that’s like the goal there at AEW, is to have the match with you know, the team. But I don’t feel any pressure now. Once we got that first tag out of the way and we had such a great response and the crowd was so eager to see us, I feel good about it.”

Continuing on the topic, the AEW star said that he is excited to show the fans what they have in store and revealed that they have a lot of ideas for their matches.

Apart from this, the duo of Luchasaurus and Jungle Boy also talked about the upcoming Battle Of Los Angeles event of PWG and more. You can check out the full episode of the podcast featuring them below:

  • Cody Talks About AEW Appealing To Core Fanbase, Unintersted In “Casual Fans”

Cody Talks About AEW Appealing To Core Fanbase, Unintersted In “Casual Fans”

Cody Rhodes isn’t interested in attracting casual fans to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) when they debut on TNT this October 2nd.

Speaking with SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, Cody spoke openly about the idea of the ‘casual fan’ and the kind of demographic AEW are specifically targeting.

“You guys have heard the term ‘casual fan,’ right?” he asked. “‘Oh, how are you going to get the casual fan?’ The term ‘casual fan,’ honestly I just threw up a little in my mouth every time I hear it because it’s this vernacular to describe wrestling and it’s based on the Monday Night Wars.”

He argued that with the Monday Night Wars long over, the idea of the casual fan is no longer a thing in modern pro wrestling. This mindset has allowed him to instead focus solely on appealing to AEW’s core audience.

“My focus is always the base that built AEW,” Cody added. “And that base, if you’ve seen it, you get it. And if you haven’t seen it, it’s just something that you have to see and feel. Bully [Ray] knows what I’m talking about. Because there’s a lot of confidence that sometimes can get misplaced for arrogance on my half or on The Elite’s behalf, but I’ve seen the power. I’ve seen it. And that’s why I want to focus on them first and foremost.”

“There’s people who are plenty critical of what AEW does and instead of signal boosting that, I’d rather a hundred of the fans that we have in that base than that one sulky son of a bitch that’s not coming on-board anyways. You guys know that first way to fail is to try and please everybody, but I gotta take care of the people who brought us to the dance in the first place… and I think that will be appealing on a global level. I genuinely do.”

Cody will face Shawn Spears in a grudge match at AEW’s next event, All Out, which takes place on August 31st from the Sears Center Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois.

  • Big Name Confirmed For AEW’s TNT Premiere

Big Name Confirmed For AEW’s TNT Premiere

After announcing the first match for the inaugural episode of their weekly TV Show, AEW has now confirmed that another big name will be making an appearance on the episode.

AEW has confirmed that former WWE Star Dean Ambrose aka Jon Moxley will be present for their TV debut on TNT on 2nd October later this year:

Though it’s worth mentioning here that the graphic only confirms Moxley’s appearance on the show which suggests that he will be involved in a segment rather than competing in a match at the event.

Jon Moxley signed a multi-year contract with AEW soon after his WWE contract expired and he made his debut for the company during their Double Or Nothing PPV in May earlier this year.

During his debut, Moxley attacked Kenny Omega and after this altercation, the company has announced a match between these two stars for their upcoming All Out event.

Though Jon’s appearance is not the only thing announced for the show and as we noted before the company recently revealed the first match for the debut episode of their event.

AEW first announced that Cody Rhodes will be in action for the upcoming show and they later confirmed that he will be going one on one against Sammy Guevara.

AEW on TNT will premiere on Wednesday, October 2nd, taking place from the Capital One Arena in Washington DC.

  • AEW Signs Indie Star On His Birthday

AEW Signs Indie Star On His Birthday

After he made appearances at two of the first three AEW events, indie star Marko Stunt has now officially signed a contract with All Elite Wrestling.

Stunt who is celebrating his 23rd birthday today took on his Twitter account and revealed he has officially signed an AEW contract:

“It’s my 23rd birthday, and I can’t think of another way to celebrate, than by announcing something huge! I would like to announce that I have OFFICIALLY signed with @AEWrestling! Thank you to everyone who has supported me, and everyone at AEW! This is just the beginning”

Marko Stunt first gained attention last year when he performed at Joey Janela’s Lost in New York event with Game Changer Wrestling, after which he got booked for All In.

He competed in the Zero Hour Over The Budget Battle Royal at the show and he then went on to compete in the Casino Battle Royal at AEW’s first PPV event in Double Or Nothing.

While he didn’t appear at Fyter Fest, Stunt was once again brought back for Fight For The Fallen where he was at the corner of Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus for their match.

He got involved in the triple threat tag team match they were competing in and it’s likely that he will become a regular member of their team after officially being signed by the company.
