Court Bauer On Relationship Between AEW & MLW

Several MLW-contracted wrestlers have become regular members of the AEW roster. Maxwell Jacob Friedman, Brian Pillman Jr and a few others have appeared on multiple AEW shows while still being under contract with Major League Wrestling. Announcer Tony Shiavone is now also in that group.

MLW’s Court Bauer addressed the relationship between the two promotions on a recent media call.

“People probably want there to be some animosity between our two organizations as that is kind of the history of wrestling where you have to go to war and stuff, that there has to be some weird tension but there isn’t here,” Bauer said in regard to the relationship between AEW and MLW.

“Funny story, I’ve been interviewed by the media once or twice and I’ve been given these loaded questions where [they were hoping] I would smash AEW, but my response has always been to give my genuine feelings and fondness towards Tony, Cody, and the guys. Guess what? They never ran those quotes! I guess it’s not as sexy, but the truth was I really want those guys to succeed.”

Bauer would continue to say he wants both promotions to succeed.

“I want AEW and MLW to succeed. It shows that there is a bigger world beyond our industry that shares the market that is completely valuable in appeal that isn’t WWE. For twenty years, frankly, probably longer, WWE has had a massive, massive dip on the market share and for media rights, licensing, you name it, they have owned it in the wrestling space and that narrative needs to change. If we’re not successful, that’s bad for the fans, the talent, the crew, and the health of our business.”

    MLW vs AEW War?

Bauer also addressed the possibility of a MLW vs AEW storyline happening someday.

“Is there going to be some big world war between promotions? Maybe that’s where this goes, maybe it doesn’t. Are there other strategic alliances? Maybe there are, maybe there aren’t, but I know that the fans will enjoy that so the media, and maybe a few companies, but I really have to say Tony [Khan] is a great guy, so is Cody. I genuinely like all of those guys. Right now it’s been great.”

    Jim Cornette Gone From MLW

Bauer also addressed Jim Cornette’s role in MLW. Bauer noted that Cornette does not have any further dates booked with the promotion.

“Jim came in to pitch in for a certain amount of dates when Tony [Schiavone] could not make his commitments that were carved out in his contract. Jim fulfilled his last date with us on July 6th so, as of right now, we don’t have any future dates with Jim.”

AJ Kirsch Joins MLW’s Broadcast Booth

Major League Wrestling has signed AJ Kirsch to join Rich Bocchini and Tony Shiavone in its broadcast team, the company announced.

The news was initially broken by SI.com, which Kirsch confirmed on his Twitter:

Kirsch first began his career as a professional wrestler in 2005 and competed on the west coast wrestling circuit. He was cast as a contestant on WWE’s Tough Enough season five.

In October 2011, he participated in the TNA Gut Check contest in Sacramento, California.

Kirsch was also the winner of The Rock’s “Rock the Promo”, a ten-episode promo competition series on The Rock’s YouTube channel. He recently voiced Buzz, the lead protagonist in the MyCAREER mode of WWE2K19.

The company has revealed that AJ will be broadcasting for the first time in Tijuana this Saturday for the MLW x The Crash Lucha Libre event.

MLW CEO Court Bauer said that he wanted to “add some youthful exuberance on the headset”, and that’s why Kirsch was picked.

The company will be holding their first-ever PPV on November 2, dubbed MLW Saturday Night SuperFight. It will will take place at the Cicero Stadium in Cicero, Illinois. Jacob Fatu (c) vs. LA Park for the MLW World Heavyweight Championship has been confirmed so far.

Court Bauer Talks MLW Talent Working For AEW

MLW’s Court Bauer recently struck a deal with AEW to allow Tony Shiavone to work for both promotions. Several MLW contracted talents, including Maxwell Jacob Friedman, work for both companies. Bauer appeared on the WINCLY podcast recently and spoke about the future of some of MLW’s roster as AEW’s TV begins in the fall.

“There’s this misnomer that it’s like Cinderella at midnight and things are gonna automatically change when [AEW] go on TV. That’s not the case because we have pre-existing contracts and the guys that are with us are for the duration of those contracts. At that point we’ll have a conversation on if we continue to work with them or they go their separate ways,” Bauer said during the interview.

“But it’s not gonna just happen overnight where October X you’re gonna be only on that show. They have pre-existing contracts with us.”

In addition to MJF, Jimmy Havoc is also with MLW and AEW.

“It’s in everyone’s best interest to find ways to work things out rather than to flex and be all ego-driven,” he continued. “Then it just escalates things and usually it’s a negative outcome. I try to approach things more holistically and pragmatically to try and find a solution where everyone can win.”

MLW & The Crash Running Joint Show 10/5 From Mexico

Earlier this month, MLW announced a strategic partnership with Mexico’s The Crash lucha libre organization. The two companies will co-promote their first show together Saturday, October 5th.

The event will take place from Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico at the historic Auditorio Fausto Gutierrez. The venue seats over 5,000 fans.

This will be a TV taping for MLW Fusion and will be MLW’s largest crowd to date. Ticket information will be released in the weeks ahead.

“This partnership is starting with a bang,” said MLW CEO and founder Court Bauer. “One of the immediate goals of this partnership was to collaborate on an event of this size and scope. Tijuana is one of the hottest cities for lucha in the world and has been for decades. For The Crash to host this monumental event is history in the making for us, the sport and our fans.”

The card will feature top ranked MLW wrestlers and represents the first-time MLW has united with another company to present a co-promoted event.

Teddy Hart Talks Carrying On Hart Foundation Legacy

Teddy Hart and the Hart Foundation currently wrestle for Major League Wrestling. Episodes of MLW Fusion can be seen Saturday nights on BeIN Sports and full episodes are posted to YouTube the following Monday. Hart is the promotion’s middleweight champion and also holds the MLW World Tag titles along with Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Brian Pillman Jr. (under the Freebird rule).

Hart spoke to Wrestling Epicenter about carrying on the Hart Foundation legacy.

“It has been a huge honor to carry the family name and to be from the Dungeon alone and to be the oldest grandson of Stu Hart,” Hart said. “It has its ups and downs. We’ve had a lot of death in our family. But, with death comes either sitting around and moping or getting up and doing something about it and trying to honor the people who are up in Heaven now watching me.”

Hart also praised the treatment he’s received in MLW.

“It has been a tough 20 years with some stuff and a good with others. MLW has probably been the best thing to happen to me except maybe the MTV show (Wrestling Society X). That was a great show but never really did anything after the first season. Hopefully MLW continues doing well and gives me a platform to show my skills.”

Teddy Hart On Wrestling Past 50

Hart also addressed how much longer he’ll wrestle in the interview. The 39-year-old says he plans to wrestle past 50.

“I’m getting a little older. Wrestling is something that you can do until you’re 50, maybe even older. I’m pretty excited about this next couple of years,” Hart said. “A lot of young guys have come up watching guys like Ricochet, Kenny Omega, Neville, The Young Bucks, myself, Jack Evans… I think the evolution of wrestling is something I’m on the forefront of. The evolution of moves. The whole thing with cool outfits and trying to expand the fan base of wrestling for the next 20 years.”

Hart will team with Brian Pillman Jr. in Chicago on Saturday as they look to defend the tag titles against the Dynasty in a ladder match.
