On Thursday, we had the opportunity to attend MLW: One-Shot from Gilt nightclub in Orlando, Florida. The return of Major League Wrestling was amazing to witness in person and the card delivered – especially the main event that saw Shane Strickland getting the win over Ricochet.

MLW: One-Shot is now streaming at MLW.TV for only $4.99.

Not only did the show deliver in a big way, but the broadcast features commentary from former NXT lead announcer Rich Bocchini and the voice of WCW Nitro, Tony Schiavone.

At the show, MLW announced they are returning for another live event from Orlando on December 7th – MLW: Never Say Never.

Here are results from MLW: One-Shot:

– Tama Tonga answered the open challenge by Martin Stone and picked up the win in a hot opener.

– Seth Petruzelli & Rhett Giddins defeated Saive Al Sabah & Parrow After the match, Parrow powerbombed Al Sabah for tapping out to Petruzelli’s armbar.

– MJF defeated Jimmy Yuta after a low blow and roll-up pin. MJF was very charismatic on the mic and was talking trash to Yuta throughout the match.

– Barrington Hughes defeated Markos Espada in a squash match after delivering a big splash in the corner in the opening moments of the contest.

– Darby Allin defeated Jason Cade in a solid high-flying match.

– Santana Garrett defeated Mia Yim in a battle of the Mae Young Classic competitors.

– “Filthy” Tom Lawlor defeated Jeff Cobb. Very physical, hard-hitting match. Cobb got busted open mid-way through. After the win, Lawler called out Matt Riddle, who later answered the challenge on Twitter, setting up a match for Never Say Never.

– MVP defeated Sami Callihan in a wild brawl that took place in and out of the ring. MVP got the win with a Fisherman’s suplex.

– Shane “Swerve” Strickland defeated Ricochet in the main event. The match went over 30 minutes and actually lived up to the incredible hype via MLW’s MLW360 documentary series.

With the final push to this Thursday night for MLW’s return to LIVE professional wrestling, the co-headliner of the HUGE main event of MLW’s One Shot Shane Strickland joins the Two Man Power Trip of Wrestling podcast.

Hyping his clash with Ricochet, “The King of Swerve” breaks down the emotional battle that he has in attempting to prove to his mentor that the time to pass the torch has arrived. We also get an in depth look at the preparation that has gone into to the promotion of this much discussed event and how the fans have a ton to look forward to with MLW’s gigantic return.

MLW’s One Shot return:

“This is a great inaugural return of MLW running live shows again. It couldn’t be run by better people and for all of the people that are promoting this between Court Bauer, Alex Greenfield , MSL this is like a great core group of guys behind the scenes and on the card as well. A lot of great new young talent that a lot of people aren’t familiar with and a lot of great upper card guys that have been doing this on the indies and on the next level WWE on television for years as well so this is a great all around opportunity for new fans and old fans that are going to be introduced to the new indies and the new style of pro wrestling industry and guys that have been watching wrestling for years.”

How the overall card is constructed:

“I am always positive about the entire show and the show in its entirety. From start to finish everything almost has to go off perfectly, especially with MLW coming back to doing live events again so I am really looking forward to and want everybody to do well. I want every match to perform and out-perform and over achieve but at the same time I am very laser focused on the task I have at hand and the match that I have in the main event. Especially all that pressure and responsibility being put on last to go after all these talented individuals to go at somebody across the ring like Ricochet. It is a lot of pressure and it is also a lot of big responsibility in my mind. ”

MLW’s 360 web series building to the main event:

“It’s been great because it’s been showing the pulling back of that curtain a little bit and showing the inside of who we are as men and individuals in our home life. We show our motivations to why we continue to do this and what doing this for so long has gotten us and all those opportunities and sacrifices we make being on the road and traveling so much and all the rewards we reap but also the sacrifices we leave behind in pursuing this business. It shows a lot of both of that in 360 and how hard we work to continue to be on top or continue to grind and progress more in this business.”

Ricochet’s influence on this generation of wrestlers:

“The past ten years he honestly has elevated the bar of what athleticism in wrestling has meant. For so long we thought that we stopped at one rotation in the air with what we are doing off the top rope. Now he is doing double moonsaults and double front flips (with 630s) and he has pushed the envelope so much and I credit a lot of my style and literally a whole generation of guys that have tried to emulate what he does. Him and PAC (Neville) in Japan then several years later moved on to him and Ospreay and he is constantly changing how we view wrestling and how we get in the ring and perform and he is always pushing the bar and raising it.”

What Ricochet means to his career:

“He honestly opened my eyes to a whole different realm of what was possible or able to be done in a ring. He has mentored me for quite some time as well and after that and I’d say a couple of years ago I pretty much took the training wheels off myself and I ventured off and started doing my own thing and I made my own waves in trying to create my own path to try and be the one who is emulated now at this point in my career. For what he is doing now, I will never say that he doesn’t work hard anymore and I definitely feel like he has let off the gas a little bit but he still continues to be a trend setter and still continues to knock down barriers and find new ways to just accomplish new things in wrestling like winning BOLA for the second time a couple of months ago. There is always a new task and he is in competition with himself and he’s been on top for so long that you get a little content but at the same time he doesn’t want to give it up and he wants someone to literally come in and be like this is mine and I feel like I am that one to do it.”

“You are going to witness a big huge generational gap with one of my mentors that has tutored me through pro wrestling and has elevated me to the next level as far as getting me a job in Lucha Underground to changing my mindset as to maneuver and perform in different ways that I didn’t know I was capable of and me facing that man. Now showing him that I am no longer just one of your students and I am no longer one of the people that you are training and bringing up. Now it is time to prove that I am on your level. You have witnessed that with MLW 360 (our miniseries) and you can watch all six episodes that track the rivalry and our feud that is Shane Strickland vs. Ricochet. I just want you to watch our MLW miniseries and if you aren’t sold and are not brought up to speed as to what this means to me and what this means to Ricochet and that will tell you everything you need to know.”

DARBY ALLIN VS. JASON CADE ON COLLISION COURSE FOR MLW: ONE-SHOT

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – What happens when a man without fear who uses his body as a weapon faces one of the most complete aerial combatants in the sport?

Find out on Thursday October 5th as Darby Allin takes on “The Flying Gambino” Jason Cade at MLW: One-Shot at Gilt Nightclub in Orlando, FL.

Living at one point in an abandoned warehouse in the slums of Seattle, Darby Allin would find success on the underground skateboarding scene leading to appearances on ESPN and MTV.

Living by the mantra nothings over till your underground, which is tattooed on his chest, Darby Allin is unpredictable and dangerous.

Mentored by Sami Callihan, some say Darby Allin is heavily influenced by the “Worldwide Desperado.”  If so, you can’t argue with the results or Darby’s impact thus far in the sport.  Darby enters MLW as one of the most talked about wrestlers of 2017.

As you’ve seen in recent weeks, we’ve been spotlighting Major League Wrestling’s upcoming MLW: One-Shot event, which takes place on Thursday night, October 5th from Gilt Nighclub in Orlando, FL.

MLW has been producing an excellent “MLW360” online documentary series in the lead-up to the main event featuring Ricochet vs. Shane Strickland.

Chapter 4, titled “Inspirations,” was just released with footage of Ricochet sparring with Jason Cade, who was announced for the show earlier this week. Meanwhile, what inspires Strickland to continue to up his game?

On Tuesday, Major League Wrestling announced “The Flying Gambino” Jason Cade is the latest competitor to sign on for the upcoming MLW: One-Shot live event on October 5th from Gilt Nightclub in Orlando, Florida.

Cade, a high-flier trained by Norman Smiley, has been making a name for himself on the independent scene and has been featured on the MLW 360 sparring sparring with his mentor and close friend Ricochet.

“Being part of MLW is a great opportunity to show the world what I can do. I’m glad they’re taking a chance on me,” said Cade.

MLW sent in word on Friday that Jamie Iovine will be on hand for the upcoming MLW: One-Shot live event (10/5) from Orlando, FL and will serve as a backstage correspondent. Here’s the official press release:

JAMIE IOVINE JOINS MLW AS BACKSTAGE CORRESPONDENT AND COLLABORATOR

ORLANDO, FLORIDA – Major League Wrestling is excited to announce Jamie Iovine has joined MLW, serving as a backstage correspondent for MLW: One-Shot at Gilt Nightclub on October 5th in Orlando, FL.

MLW: One-Shot will be available to stream and download within 72 hours of the event exclusively at MLW.tv.

In addition to his work as a part of the backstage broadcast for MLW: One-Shot, Jamie will collaborate with MLW on additional projects.

No stranger to MLW, Jamie has been pure fire at MLW’s WaleMania events each year, serving as the DJ for the wildest after party in all of sports.

Born and raised in the City of Angels you could say Jamie Iovine was born into the entertainment industry. Growing up around some of the most influential figures in music and entertainment the knowledge he accumulated over the years you could say is invaluable. Rather than going down the path his father cultivated, Jamie Iovine decided to create his own. With his passions in music, comics, technology, and sports entertainment you could say Iovine is a renaissance man for the new generation of entrepreneur.

As a DJ, Iovine has performed at every major nightclub in Los Angeles/Las Vegas and toured nationally and internationally with the likes of Kaskade, Steve Aoki, Rusko, Eric Prydz and most notably DJ’d for hip-hop heavy weight Puff Daddy at WrestleMania 29 in New York at Madison Square Garden.

While Iovine’s DJ career started to flourish he was given the opportunity to work with top rated consumer electronics brand Beats by Dre. Iovine was featured in a nationwide TV campaign for Beats By Dre that debuted on ABC’s Monday Night Football.

Parleying his relationship with Beats By Dre and World Wrestling Entertainment, Iovine hosted one of the most successful Summer Slam Parties at the Beverly Hilton. Coming off the successes of his Beats by Dre and WWE collaborative event he then decided to take his talents officially to WWE. At the WWE Iovine was the go to backstage producer.

Creating some of the most compelling segments for Monday Night Raw, Smackdown, and WWE.com with the likes of John Cena, The Rock, and Brock Lesnar to name a few. He also worked directly with the Executive Vice President of Talent Paul Levesque aka Triple H on a few projects, which only added to his outstanding track record. Unfortunately all good things must come to an end and so did his time spend at the WWE.

Iovine had to start a new chapter or “edition” in his career. After months of research Iovine found himself with an amazing opportunity to work with and own a piece of the famed Meltdown Comics in Hollywood. Iovine knew this was exactly what he was looking for and signed the deal to become Meltdown Comics Chief Operating and Public relations officer. In his short time at Meltdown, Iovine has already put his footprint with the company. Jamie Iovine has put in the work and his resume and past performance can attest to that, but in his mind he’s only just begun.

This summer, Jamie partnered with Steve Kaye for a residency at Rehab in Las Vegas called: Jamie Iovine at Rehab at the Hard Rock Hotel.

Considered the hottest pool parties of the summer, Jamie collaborated with the likes of Ice Cube for the most interactive, wild and high-energy events you can experience in Las Vegas.
