    The Ring of Honor World Championship will once again be defended at New Japan Pro Wrestling’s annual January 4th Tokyo Dome show.

    At Wrestle Kingdom’s 11th iteration, it will be Kyle O’Reilly will be defending his newly won title against the man that he defeated at ROH’s Final Battle: Adam Cole.

    Cody Rhode’s was officially revealed as the newest member of the Bullet Club at today’s World Tag League finals.

    New Japan have already given Cody the moniker of ‘American Nightmare’ and the video package below indicates we’all be seeing him next month at the Wrestle Kingdom Tokyo Dome show.

    Since his WWE departure Cody has been in high demand having appeared for number of high profile Independent companies across the world, including TNA Bound For Glory, PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles & ROH’s Final Battle.

    Update On The Young Bucks’ Status With ROH

    After successfully defending the ROH World tag team titles last night at Final Battle (Results), it’s looking like the Young Bucks will be staying with Ring of Honor and New Japan Pro Wrestling for the next two years.

    Update: Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Dave Meltzer is now reporting the Young Bucks have signed a 2-year deal with ROH.

    The Young Bucks have been on WWE’s radar for some time and were offered contract with terms similar to Bobby Roode’s. According to a source close to the situation, the Bucks were looking for ‘special treatment’ from WWE. The talks died down and they used the offer from WWE to get more money and creative control from ROH/New Japan. The deal is said to be significantly better than their current arrangement.

    Many top ROH stars have contracts coming due at the end of 2016 and the Young Bucks have confirmed they’re among that group. Pro Wrestling Sheet broke the news earlier this week that ROH had offered strong deals to keep Nick and Matt Jackson on board. During a Friday appearance on the Busted Open radio show on SiriusXM, the Bucks commented on their futures:

    “Our current contract [with Ring of Honor} expires on December 31st. These are our final shows for Ring of Honor for the year…Philadelphia could be, who knows? We don’t know. There’s offers on the table. We’re in a good spot right now. We’re in a really great position where we feel like we have a lot of power. We know that we’re probably the top act here, or at least one of them along with our buddy here [Adam Cole] and the Bullet Club.

    A lot of people want us, so it’s cool, and we’re happy. We’re happy to be, we’re humble to be in the position we’re in, we have families. First and foremost, we want to get what we feel like we deserve and we want to be able to come home and feed our children at the end of the day. That’s the game plan, just getting what we feel like we deserve.”

    Enuhito, one of the most reliable denizens of Wrestling Twitter for Japanese to English translations, tweeted some big news later Monday night, which he sourced from Tokyo Sports:

    Pro Wrestling NOAH had been, at different times, either the biggest or second biggest pro wrestling promotion in Japan dating back to not long after its debut in August of 2000. The company launched after the death of promoter Shohei “Giant” Baba caused turmoil on All Japan Pro Wrestling, leading to almost the entire roster and office staff, led by top star Mitsuharu Misawa, breaking away. The company didn’t immediately get network TV due to the nature of the deals that were made, but NOAH eventually landed AJPW’s old slot on Nippon TV.

    After a few years, the combination of the network TV deal, a fresh product, New Japan Pro Wrestling’s downturn, and Kenta Kobashi replacing Misawa as top babyface led to a huge boom in business. While it’s hard to gauge specifics due to the way that numbers are exaggerated, NOAH’s two shows at the Tokyo Dome were among the biggest wrestling cards in the building’s history. They legitimately packed the stadium, and unlike other promotions, NOAH lit up the building like a Christmas tree so you could tell on TV.

    The downfall of the company started with Misawa’s in-ring death in 2009. The network TV deal went away a year later due to budget cuts, which dealt a huge blow in both exposure (cable and satellite pay TV are not prominent in Japan) and direct revenue (NTV heavily subsidized all TV tapings). The company was no longer a superpower.

    A few years ago, NJPW started funding the company in some form, eventually making it more obvious by sending Minoru Suzuki’s Suzuki Gun stable over to boost business. Around the same time, Super Crazy, who had worked for NOAH for years on and off, did an interview where he suggested the two promotions were one company. NJPW co-booker Jado started booking NOAH. It all appeared to be leading to something more official when NOAH’s existing TV contracts (on cable/satellite and enhanced digital broadcast channels) expired, but now, that doesn’t appear to be the case.

    Analysis: Clearly, there’s something missing here. NJPW was not mentioned once in the Tokyo Sports article. Maybe the idea was just to get NOAH into good enough shape that the company could find a corporate savior, but that’s not how NJPW has treated NOAH for the last couple years. There was a distinct change from NOAH being just like every other company that’s friendly with NJPW to being on that NJPW was seemingly pouring resources (both financial and talent-wise) into and was reluctant to pull those out. This should be a very interesting story to track in the next few weeks.

    ROH Championship To Be Defended At NJPW: Destruction in Hiroshima

    New Japan have announced a huge match for the Hiroshima stop in the upcoming ‘Destruction’ tour. ROH World Champion and Bullet Club member Adam Cole will be defending his belt against British sensation Will Ospreay.

    It was recently announced that Ospreay had agreed to be part of ROH’s upcoming Reach for the Sky tour in the UK, his involvement with the US based company beyond the tour is unknown at this point.

    Kenny Omega: WWE Using Ibushi As A Junior Is Embarrassing, WWE’s Inferior In-Ring Product

    New Japan Pro Wrestling star and Bullet Club member Kenny Omega recently spoke about winning this year’s G1 Climax tournament, how different Japanese wrestling is from WWE and why he thinks it’s embarrassing for Kota Ibushi to be booked as a junior/cruiserweight in WWE.

    Omega has tremendous respect for WWE Cruiserweight Classic competitor Kota Ibushi. He’s been “chasing” Ibushi for almost a decade now and feels that he finally surpassed him by winning the G1 Climax Tournament. However, he can’t believe Ibushi is content working as a ‘junior’ in WWE and looks forward to wrestling him back in New Japan.

    “There are precious few people that can change the face of pro wrestling. It may even just be the two of us. So I’m going to stay here in New Japan, doing my best and waiting for him,” Omega said. “(At the G1 finals) I finally surpassed him. I was chasing Ibushi for eight years and finally outgrew him. I hope that’s inspiration for him, right? It’s not like I could go to WWE and be a junior, there’s no point in that. For him to go do that, be a junior in WWE, isn’t that embarrassing? I can do so much more here.”

    He elaborated on the differences between Japanese Wrestling and WWE. There’s no question that WWE has the best production values of any pro wrestling promotion. The pyro and music are the best, but Omega thinks WWE uses slick presentation to mask the fact that their in-ring product is inferior to New Japan.

    “For a wrestler there’s obvious pride involved. People are noticing you, for me to have a match of the year, it says that people hold my original style in high esteem. But it isn’t just for me, but Japanese wrestling at large. There are a lot of fans who think WWE is the top of the pile. Obviously their pyro, music, production is the best. But from where I stand, in ring isn’t the best. It’s fun to watch such a high budget production, but they use that to hide a lot of weaknesses.”

    The final three G1 Climax events take place over this weekend and New Japan World will have an English commentary stream available as an alternative option.

    These events will see a three man booth of Kevin Kelly, Steve Corino and Special Guest Rocky Romero.
