  • Triple H Talks About Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole From TakeOver XXV

Triple H Talks About Johnny Gargano vs. Adam Cole From TakeOver XXV

This past Saturday, Adam Cole defeated Johnny Gargano in the main event of TakeOver XXV. This victory would see Cole become crowned the new NXT Champion.

Post-TakeOver, Triple H took part in a Facebook Live discussion with Cathy Kelly to discuss the event itself, the bout between Cole and Gargano, and what Cole’s victory means for NXT.

“I think the crowd said it best when they were chanting, ‘fight forever.’ This is one of those things you could see them do this over and over and over again and never get bored with it, never feel like you’ve seen it,” Triple H said.

“They just [have] amazing chemistry. […] Then again, who does Gargano have bad chemistry with? In some ways, you can call him Johnny TakeOver. Almost every time you can make the argument that he’s match of the night. Amazing performance. He walks out of here without a championship, […] but I don’t necessarily think that he lost, I don’t think that he lost any respect from anybody. I think he earned even more tonight.”

“He Is One Of The Hardest Workers Here”

Turning the conversation to the new champion, Triple H said “It was an awesome moment, I’m happy for him. You can say what you want about Adam Cole, he is one of the hardest workers here, much like Gargano, much like so many people here, he puts his heart and soul into everything about this. I’m happy for him.”

Triple H then addressed Gargano’s status after the matchup, revealing that he was seen “hobbling” out of the arena before teasing a potential rubber match between the two NXT Superstars.

“[…] if my math is correct now they’re 2-2 in falls. We’ll see where this goes now. I saw Johnny hobbling out of here. I’m hoping he’s alright. But we will see where this goes, but for now there’s a new champ in town, and his name is Adam Cole.”

    TakeOver

NXT isn’t slowing down, and WWE is making efforts to push NXT UK in a similar way.

The company recently announced their NXT UK TakeOver event, which will take place on August 31st from Cardiff, Wales. This date happens to coincide with NJPW’s Royal Quest event in London, as well as All Elite Wrestling’s show, All Out.

  • Triple H Provides Injury Update On Tommaso Ciampa

Triple H Provides Injury Update On Tommaso Ciampa

Following NXT TakeOver XXV this past Saturday, WWE’s Executive Vice President of Talent, Live Events, and Creative, Triple H, took part in a media call. During this call, HHH provided a new update on former NXT Champion, Tommaso Ciampa.

He revealed that Ciampa is ahead of schedule post-neck surgery, and has been cleared for “non-contact” activity. Despite this good news, however, HHH clarified that Ciampa is still far from 100 per cent, and still has a way to go before the WWE Universe can see him return to in-ring action.

“Cleared for non-contact means you can’t do anything in this business,” Triple H explained. “[…] He’s ahead of schedule and doing extremely well. Ahead of schedule on all of it and moving along. But with the type of injury he had and the type of surgery he had, especially in this from a physicality standpoint, you’re not doing anything until you’re 100 per cent. It’s not like you can go in there and lightly take suplexes. You have to be 100 per cent. So, he’s still got a ways to go, but he’s way ahead of the curve and the schedule.”

Triple H added that “He’ll be back soon, and I’m sure when he does, he’ll be ready to claim his spot.”

Tommaso Ciampa suffered a severe neck injury back in February before undergoing surgery back in March. This injury, unfortunately, would see him have to relinquish the NXT championship, which he had lovingly nicknamed “Goldie.”

  • Triple H Comments On UK Takeover & All Out Scheduled For Same Day

Triple H Comments On UK Takeover & All Out Scheduled For Same Day

The NXT UK brand’s second Takeover event will occur on the same day as AEW’s All Out PPV. NJPW’s Royal Quest in London is also set for the same day as All Out and NXT UK Takeover Cardiff.

Triple H addressed the date of the NXT UK Takeover event in his post-event press conference after Takeover XXV last night. According to Triple H, the date for the Cardiff show was booked months ago.

“I will just say this to everybody in here, contrary to, I’m sure, the buzz, the date of August 31st is a date we have had for a long time,” Triple H said. “That building has been booked with us in Cardiff long before WrestleMania, I think.”

“We just hadn’t announced because it wasn’t the right time,” he continued. “You don’t want to announce something for a brand six months out.”

NXT UK Takeover vs AEW All Out – August 31st

Triple H then noted the date has nothing to do with any other event scheduled for that date. He also noted that the UK Takeover event will air in prime time in the UK and in the afternoon in the United States.

“It has nothing to do with anybody else and to be honest, we will take place live in primetime in the U.K. and be on in the afternoon here in the U.S. So it is what it is.”

NJPW Royal Quest – August 31st

NXT Takeover UK from Cardiff also occurs on the same day as NJPW’s Royal Quest from London. The show will take place from the Copper Box Arena.

    https://twitter.com/tde_wrestling/status/1134972406999724032

This match was insane and the right team won. Street Profits are a hell of a team and the NXT crowd loves them. I cannot get over how much punishment Kyle O’Reilly took during this match. I don’t know he was able to walk backstage once this match concluded. Once again, NXT does the tag team division right and it is frustrating that it doesn’t translate to the “main roster”.

Cole set up for the Last Shot but Johnny fell to the mat. Johnny then locked in the Gargano Escape and rolled to the middle of the ring. Cole elbowed Johnny several times in the knee to break the hold. Cole connected with Panama Sunrise and then the Last Shot for the pinfall victory. Adam Cole is the new NXT Champion. Cole and Gargano put on an instant classic tonight at TakeOver: XXV. The match started out slow and built up perfectly to the finish. It will be interesting to see where Gargano goes from here. Cole deserved this moment and I’m looking forward to his title run in NXT. NXT TakeOver: XXV was another phenomenal show for the brand. Tyler Breeze To NXT Full-Time, Comments On Tag Team With Fandango

Tyler Breeze will challenge Velveteen Dream for the NXT North American title on Saturday. Today, Triple H confirmed that Breeze is once again a full-time member of the NXT roster.

    Tyler Breeze and Fandango

Fandango has been out of action for 11 months after suffering a torn left labrum. His original timeline for return was 6 months and he reported to the WWE PC in December. It’s not clear what has led to Fandango’s extended absence.

Breeze recently joked with his former trainer, Lance Storm, about his position on the main roster in WWE.

Breeze has never won a title in NXT or the WWE main roster. He is a former Florida Championship Wrestling champion and co-held the FCW tag titles along with Roman Reigns.

In 2011, Reigns was wrestling under the name Leakee and Breeze was wrestling as Mike Dalton. They defeated the team of Corey Graves and Jake Carter (Big Van Vader’s son) for the belts. Dalton and Leakee (Breeze and Reigns) would drop the belts to the team of Juice Robinson and Jason Jordan just one month later.

  • Johnny Gargano Dealing With Knee Injury

Johnny Gargano Dealing With Knee Injury

It’s been reported that current NXT Champion, Johnny Gargano, has been dealing with a knee injury.

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, this is why Gargano has seen minimal in-ring action in recent weeks.

Further details are unknown at this time, but it is speculated that the injury could have been sustained back in March.

Although he has appeared for NXT TV tapings, Gargano was used sparingly, minimizing the amount of time actively grappling.

These precautionary measures have been taken to allow Gargano an opportunity to rest and heal. He is scheduled for a matchup with Adam Cole. The two will clash for the NXT Championship at NXT’s upcoming TakeOver XXV event.

    #JohnnyProducing

In recent weeks, Johnny Gargano has been working as a producer at NXT, learning a different side of the product.

In a recent tweet, he highlighted the importance of not becoming complacent. He called it “The #1 killer of success” before signing off with the hashtag “JohnnyProducing.”

“The #1 killer of success is complacency. Especially when it comes to this job.. there’s just so many different sides and intricacies to it, you can always get better and learn something new. I get the chance to wear a different hat this weekend! @WWENXT #JohnnyProducing?”

Undisputed Era (Adam Cole, Roderick Strong, Bobby Fish, and Kyle O’Reilly marched down to the ring to a great reaction. Adam Cole claimed that Undisputed Era is stronger than they have ever been and that they are all the same page. Cole claimed that Undisputed Era owned every superstar in the back and that they will not stop until they run this place. Adam added that O’Reilly and Fish will regain the tag titles and that he is going to take the NXT Championship from Johnny Gargano.

NXT Champion Johnny Gargano quickly interrupted and Cole got pissed off. Johnny smirked as he slowly walked to the entrance ramp. Gargano asked Cole to tell the truth for the first time in his career, and claimed that Cole knows that he could never beat him on his own. Cole called Gargano an idiot and boasted about winning the first fall at TakeOver: New York. Johnny stated that Cole doesn’t know how math works and that Adam certainly didn’t shock the school system.

Johnny broke it down for Cole, and said that you actually need to win two falls in a 2 out of 3 Falls. Gargano noted that he won two falls and asked Cole if he understood. Cole shouted that Johnny can be as condescending as he wants, but he knows that it eats Johnny alive that he pinned him at TakeOver.

Matt Riddle crashed the party and attacked Undisputed Era from behind. Johnny rushed to the ring and joined in on the brawl. Cole and Johnny traded shots as Riddle booted Strong out of the ring. Breeze stated that there can only be one Prince Pretty in NXT and then took a look at himself with his cellphone. Dream claimed that the spotlight of the NXT Universe wants a real man and not a boy that plays cops and robbers like Tyler Breeze. Velveteen added that Breeze doesn’t get to come to NXT and demand a spotlight because he failed on RAW and SmackDown.

Tyler responded by claiming his main roster run was uninspired, but Dream and the Velveteen Dream inspires him. Breeze added that an inspired Tyler Breeze is too much for Dream to handle. Velveteen joked about Breeze sitting in catering on Monday and Tuesday nights and told him to get at the back of the line.

Dream asked Breeze if he wanted to take a selfie with the champion, and Tyler accepted the offer. Breeze added that when Dream writes his phone number on his trunk and nobody calls you up, it is because nobody is interested. Breeze then punched Dream in the face and exited the ring.

Breeze was then interviewed backstage. Tyler stated that all he wanted to do tonight was introduce Velveteen Dream to an inspired Prince Pretty. It was later announced that Dream will defend the NXT North American Championship against Breeze at TakeOver.

Below are spoiler results of the matches taped for NXT TV last night:

NXT TV SPOILER RESULTS (Taped On 5/18/2019)

KUSHIDA def. Drew Gulak in a Submission Match

The submission match between KUSHIDA and Gulak was said to be an entertaining contest, and a unique one, as there were none of the traditional near-falls and pin attempts in the match.

In the end, KUSHIDA picked up the win by submission when Gulak tapped out to the Hoverboard Lock.

      Winner: KUSHIDA

Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan def. Roderick Strong & Kyle O’Reilly

Up next was a tag-team bout pitting The Undisputed ERA’s Roderick Strong and Kyle O’Reilly against Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan. Bobby Fish came out with Strong and O’Reilly with his arm in a sling. He shook his fellow Undisputed ERA members’ hands and headed to the back.

The match was given some time and the crowd was said to be into a lot of the action. Near the end of the match, Jaxson Ryder ran in to distract Strong, setting up the finish, which saw Lorcan roll O’Reilly up for the pin fall victory.

Winners: Danny Burch & Oney Lorcan

Marina Shafir & Jessamyn Duke vs. Io Shirai & Candice LaRae ended in a No Contest

In the third match taped for television, Ronda Rousey’s Four Horsewomen members Marina Shafir and Jessamyn Duke took on Io Shirai and Candice LaRae in women’s tag-team action.

This one was kept pretty short and basic. During the match, NXT Women’s Champion Shayna Baszler came out. “The Queen of Spades” simply stood at the top of the entrance ramp and watched the match until getting involved in the finish.

At the end of the contest, Shirai was about to hit her moonsault on Duke for what felt like the finish, until Baszler pulled Duke out of the ring. Shirai then hit her moonsault on Baszler instead.

This led to a big brawl with all five ladies going at it while several NXT officials tried to break things up. Baszler and Shirai ended up battling in the crowd, while LaRae brawled with Duke and Shafir.

      Winners: No Contest

After these three matches were taped, the NXT Bel Air main event took place. The match saw Velveteen Dream retain his NXT North American Championship in an excellent Triple-Threat Match that included Matt Riddle and Adam Cole.

  • Mauro Ranallo Has Re-signed With WWE

Mauro Ranallo Has Re-signed With WWE

Mauro Ranallo has reportedly signed a new contract with WWE.

PWInsider was the first to report the news.

According to the report, Ranallo agreed to terms on a new deal approximately one month ago, extending his tenure as the voice of the NXT brand.

The deal will allow “The Bi-Polar Rock ‘N’ Roller” to continue with his outside combat sports commitments. He remains the lead voice for Showtime Championship Boxing, and also does work for the Bellator MMA promotion.

Ranallo first signed with WWE in 2015. He later debuted as the lead Smackdown announcer in early 2016.

After a 14-month run on Smackdown, Ranallo left the main roster commentary team. There was rampant speculation at the time that his departure was related to a personal issue with fellow commentator John “JBL” Layfield.

Ranallo has publicly denied that it was an issue with JBL that lead to him leaving Smackdown.

Rather, he said, it was due to the intense travel schedule that he was locked into at the time.

After a 3-month departure from WWE TV, he returned as the lead commentator for NXT TV, and the voice of NXT TakeOver events in June 2017.

His work on TakeOver events has been widely praised, and he claimed the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reader’s award for Best Announcer in 2017.

His “Mamma Mia” catchphrase has also become a popular chant at NXT, and even independent wrestling events.

Are you happy that Mauro is staying with WWE?

  • Dominik Dijakovic Injured, Undergoes Knee Surgery

Dominik Dijakovic Injured, Undergoes Knee Surgery

Dominik Dijakovic has had surgery to repair a meniscus tear.

Dijakovic announced the news himself on his Twitter account, and WWE.com later confirmed the surgery.

    https://twitter.com/DijakovicWWE/status/1126230636744859651

The NXT star had been set to feud with Velveteen Dream over the NXT North American title, and a confrontation between the two aired on the May 1 edition of NXT TV.

With Dijakovic suffering an injury, NXT pivoted to Dream feuding with Tyler Breeze in his return to NXT, as Dijakovic missed the last set of television tapings.

A search of leading medical websites, including Duke University Health, and The Cleveland Clinic, reveals that the standard surgical procedure for a torn meniscus is arthroscopic.

Those same sites pinpoint a standard recovery tie from surgery at 4 to 6 weeks.

WWE did not provide a recovery timetable in confirming the news.

Dijakovic promised to return, and says that he does not see his injury as a bad thing.

“I’m happy that I had a tear in my meniscus,” Dijakovic says.

“I had to rip away the weakness, to rebuild it to be stronger than ever, using my blood.”

Big E is also currently on the shelf after suffering the same injury, shortly after WrestleMania.

  • SmackDown Star Killian Dain Being Moved Back To NXT

SmackDown Star Killian Dain Being Moved Back To NXT

A number of teams broke up during the Superstar Shakeup this year but probably the most disappointing of them all was the disbanding of Sanity.

The team had great potential but were rarely used on WWE TV after their main roster debut on SmackDown Live last year.  They were disbanded after their leader Eric Young was moved to Raw.

Shortly after this, another member of the faction in Alexander Wolfe was shifted back to Europe to work on NXT UK and it appears that the last member of the faction won’t be staying around the Blue Branded Show either.

According to reports from Wrestling Observer, Killian Dain, who is also the husband of the group’s former member Nikki Cross is being moved back to NXT and could make an appearance at Full Sail soon.

This is surprising news as WWE went to some length to keep couples together during the Superstar Shakeup and they even backed out from a number of roster moves so couples like Andrade and Charlotte Flair could stay together.

However, reports suggest that Cross will be a part of Raw roster moving forward and it will be interesting to see how this affects the relationship of these two stars.

NXT’s KUSHIDA Addresses Moving To The States, Adjusting To NXT

NXT’s newest Japanese Superstar, KUSHIDA, began his time with NXT earlier in the month and continues to adjust to his new life in the United States.

Taking to Twitter, KUSHIDA shared his experiences in America so far, and what it has been like wrestling for a new company—one drastically different from his former employee, New Japan Pro Wrestling.

    https://twitter.com/KUSHIDA_0904/status/1122365977260433408

He comments that, although a month or so has passed since his move to Florida, it feels as though it has been more like a year to him.

“I was in a state where I didn’t understand the new practice environment, food, housing, English, Matches…but I feel that a little more open time has been created recently.”

KUSHIDA shares that on weekdays “practice picked up at the performance center” and also reveals that he has been taking one-on-one English classes in an attempt to better understand and speak the language.

His weekends are dedicated to house shows, and he states that he is “desperate every day to get through a day.” He breaks down his routine as “Driving to the venue yourself, setting the ring, wrestle, and clear the ring. Then drive back to home again … it is the life in NXT.”

These new experiences have allowed him a “series of fresh discovers”, and he feels as though he is becoming more experienced as a performer and person.

With his new life in America starting to settle, he promises that he can “finally put my feet on the pedal and 100% power on my engine. Bring all of this into the ring.”

The former 6-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion will be making his NXT TV debut next on next week’s episode. He will compete against Kassius Ohno.

Though he wasn’t the only one to get injured during the night and Raul Mendoza, who was signed by the company in 2017, also appeared to have injured his knee during a bout with Jaxson Ryker.

The referee had to throw up the X sign only a couple minutes after their match began and the bout was then called off. While there is no word yet on how severe his condition is, fans noted that Mendoza was able to walk back with some assistance.

Rhea Ripley Issues Apology For Homophobic Slur

Former NXT UK Women’s champion, Rhea Ripley, issued an apology today for using a homophobic slur during a recent live Twitch stream.

Ripley sent the following message on Twitter and said the message was coming from Demi Bennett (her real name).

“I know a lot of you are upset with me after tonight, but I just wanted to publicly say that I am sorry. My brain to mouth filter came down for a second and I forgot that some words are a big no no to a lot of people. I am a firm believer that everyone should be treated equally, whether that be race or sexual orientation. With that said, I just wanted to say how dearly sorry I am to everyone that was offended by my choice of words tonight.”

Ripley was hurling a string of expletives when the slur was used. This was actually a theme of the show. Followers could donate to the stream and Ripley would insult them in response.

A user on Twitter posted a clip of her using the word:

    Rhea Ripley in WWE

Ripley won the inaugural NXT UK Women’s Championship at NXT UK tapings last summer. After defending the belt twice she lost it to Toni Storm at Takeover: Blackpool in January. Ripley then dropped a subsequent rematch with Storm at the next set of tapings.

Since losing the title, however, Ripley has gone on something of a short winning streak. She defeated Xia Brookside in February and then defeated Kacy Catanzaro in a match which aired yesterday on WWE NXT UK.
