  • Update On Adam Cole To NXT, WWE’s New Policy Regarding ROH-Indy Signings

Update On Adam Cole To NXT, WWE’s New Policy Regarding ROH-Indy Signings

Following up on PWInsider’s report about Adam Cole signing with WWE, Sean Radican over at PWTorch has obtained new information regarding how Cole will be positioned when he joins NXT. Cole is expected to get a good push in NXT, but he won’t be the brand’s top heel any time soon.

According to the Torch, a new WWE policy is to scale back the early pushes of talent from Ring of Honor and the independent scene straight to main events in NXT.

Former ROH stars Bobby Fish and Kyle O’Reilly both joined NXT recently and both lost to Aleister Black in their debuts. Following his return to NXT after a hot run on the independents, Kassius Ohno hasn’t had any memorable feuds to date.

That’s not to say Adam Cole, Bobby Fish, Kyle O’Reilly and Kassius Ohno won’t have successful runs in NXT – they all probably will. But it seems the current plan is to slowly build these signees instead of a mega push from the beginning.

Finally, Radican noted that Triple has a large amount of homegrown talent that he feels are ready for NXT and will be debuting on TV in the near future.

  • Asuka On Breaking Records, Triple H, Who She Still Wants To Face In WWE

Asuka On Breaking Records, Triple H, Who She Still Wants To Face In WWE

NXT Women’s Champion Asuka recently spoke to Newsweek and below are some highlights from the interview:

    Her goals in WWE:

“When I decided to sign a contract with WWE, I decided two things. I was determined not only to win, but to leave [breaking] records. That is something I feel like I can do as a return to WWE [for hiring me].”

Bridging the gap between men and women in WWE:

When I got the call from WWE, I asked them why they picked me, and they told me, ‘Among all the women’s wrestlers, you’re the one we want to pick.’ I felt a lot of expectation. I felt I had to do my best to [prove I’m the best to] them. I wanted to change women’s wrestling in WWE. In wrestling, men and women do the same thing, but sometimes the men look more powerful and more impressive. I am trying my best to fill the gap between men and women.”

    Her relationship with Triple H:

“I have a big trust in him. Whenever I have an idea, I always talk to him. He always gives me amazing advice.”

Who she wants to face in WWE:

“I don’t use the words ‘respect’ or ‘admire’ toward my opponents, but I’m interested to have matches with Sasha and Charlotte. Those two women I’ve never faced before.”

Asuka will defend her NXT Women’s Championship against Ember Moon at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn III on August 19th at the Barclays Center.

NXT this week came from Full Sail University. The featured match was between Drew McIntyre and Killian Dain, with the winner moving on to meet Bobby Roode at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn III.

    1. Ruby Riot vs. Ember Moon

    • Asuka resorted to under-handed, dirty tactics to beat Ember Moon in their title match, leading Moon to believe she deserves a rematch.
    • Ruby Riot on the other hand, has never been given a singles match for the NXT women’s championship, so she believes she should be the next to challenge Asuka. Hence, the two met here.
    • The match was fairly even, with Riot getting a couple of near-falls.
    • In the end however, Ember Moon hit the Eclipse, picked up the win, and will move on to meet Asuka next month.

    Winner: Ember Moon

    • A backstage clip is shown of Hideo Itami confronting Kassius Ohno about having requested a match against him next week. Itami kicked a garbage can, spoke in Japanese, and left the room.

    • A vignette for the “Street Profits” aired.

    2. Oney Lorcan vs. Danny Burch

    • These two guys beat each other up. Burch’s nose even got busted open.
    • Lorcan got the tapout victory with a rolling single-leg crab. Mauro mentioned that Lorcan was trained by Lance Storm, who used the same move as a finish up until he started using the Sharpshooter.
    • After the match, Burch challenged Lorcan to one more match. His offer was accepted.

    Winner: Oney Lorcan via submission

    3. No Way Jose vs. Cezar Bononi

    • No highlights were posted for this match.
    • No Way Jose picked up the win here with a pop-up punch to the face.
    • This was pretty much a squash match.
    • After the match, Andrade “Cien” Almas hit the ring (w/Thea Trinidad) and beat up Bononi.
    • This caused No Way Jose to make the save and drive Almas out of the ring.
    • Jose and Almas jawed at each other a bit as the segment ended.

    Winner: No Way Jose

    4. NXT Championship #1 Contenders Match
Drew McIntyre vs. Killian Dain (SAnitY)

    • Mauro mentioned on commentary that the reason they are being given this opportunity is because they are both undefeated.
    • Dain had the early advantage in the match, using mainly power moves and clubbing blows until Drew made a comeback.
    • McIntyre hit a move Mauro referred to as a “Finlay Drop” after Fit Finlay.
    • Dain hit a fisherman suplex from the 2nd rope.
    • McIntyre hit a double-arm DDT, which I’m pretty sure was his finisher in his previous stint with WWE. Dain kicked out at 1 however.
    • Finally the end of the match came when McIntyre hit his Claymore kick, only for Dain to get right back up, then Drew hit him with another and pinned him.
    • McIntyre will now meet Bobby Roode at Takeover: Brooklyn.

    Winner: Drew McIntyre

    2. Ruby Riot vs. Ember Moon

NXT Preview: Gargano Returns, Tag Team Championship Match

NXT tonight is a taped show from Full Sail University. The episode will feature the return of Johnny Gargano to NXT for the first time since his partner, Tommaso Ciampa, turned on him at Takeover: Chicago.

Tonight’s show will also feature an NXT tag team championship match between the Authors of Pain (c) and Heavy Machinery.

    NXT Announced Segements

WWE.com previewing the NXT tag-team championship match:

“The Authors of Pain have built their NXT Tag Team Championship reign upon a foundation of brute force and physical dominance. However, against Heavy Machinery — AOP’s newly confirmed challengers tonight on NXT — Paul Ellering’s menacing monsters, for once, find themselves against opponents who can more than match their immensity.”

WWE.com Previewing Johnny Gargano’s NXT return:

“It’s been more than seven weeks since Johnny Gargano’s life was turned upside-down.

Johnny Wrestling never saw it coming when he was ruthlessly attacked by his best friend and tag team partner, Tommaso Ciampa. Just moments after Gargano & Ciampa fought valiantly for the NXT Tag Team Championship against The Authors of Pain in a Ladder Match, Ciampa viciously assaulted his #DIY partner, causing the beloved Gargano to be wheeled out of Chicago’s Allstate Arena in a stretcher and into an ambulance as the NXT Universe looked on in utter shock.

Tonight will be the first time the NXT Universe sees Gargano since the brutal assault. What kind of shape will Gargano be in, physically and mentally? Has he completely healed?

Plus, how will the betrayed former #DIY member respond to Ciampa’s explanation and rationalization for his callous actions? See what Gargano has in store for NXT and Ciampa when he returns tonight at 8/7C on the award-winning WWE Network.”
