Darren Young Hopes To Work For ROH In 2019

Former WWE star Fred Rosser (better known a Darren Young) has been keeping busy since his WWE release in 2017. Young has been doing a lot of speaking engagements this year, which has cut into his professional wrestling career a bit. However, he’s hoping to turn all that around with 2019 right around the corner.

Young was recently interviewed by “The Roman Show” to talk about several professional wrestling topics. During their conversation, Young expressed interest in working for various promotions in 2019. He named Ring Of Honor (ROH) specifically, as well as expressing interest in working around Japan too:

“2019 for me is going to be a big year. 2018, I spent a lot of time doing speaking engagements, very little wrestling, but 2019 is going to be a big year for me. Hopefully [I will wrestle in] Japan, and hopefully [Ring of Honor].”

Back in 2005 Young signed a developmental deal with WWE and competed in their Florida Championship Wrestling (FCW) territory, before it became known as NXT. In 2010 he made his main roster debut as a member of the Nexus. He’d briefly return to NXT in 2011 and eventually formed the “Prime Time Players” alongside Titus O’Neil.

In 2014 Young began a singles career, which included a run with WWE Hall Of Famer Bob Backlund as his manager for a brief period of time. Young was released from his WWE deal in October of 2017. It will be interesting to see how his career progresses working the indy scene, and potentially getting booked for promotions such as New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) or ROH.

Check out Young’s interview on “The Roman Show” below:

  • Jay Lethal Talks His Final Battle Title Match Against Cody, How ROH Has Changed

Jay Lethal Talks His Final Battle Title Match Against Cody, How ROH Has Changed

Jay Lethal spoke with Sporting News to promote Friday’s (December 14, 2018) Ring of Honor Final Battle pay-per-view event in Manhattan, New York at the Hammerstein Ballroom where he’s slated to headline when he defends the ROH World Heavyweight Title against Cody Rhodes. This is where he noted that it’s good to be back in NYC and that this match features two wrestlers who take their job seriously and give 100 percent every single time they step in the ring

“When I wrestle, my main priority is to make sure that I give the fans value for money and that they leave the venue and go home with some amazing memories from watching Jay Lethal. Cody is exactly the same and if he’s going into next week’s match the way I am then I’m certain that we can deliver something special and everyone will go home more than happy after watching us go all out for my Ring of Honor title.”

The Baltimore-based promotion has been around since 2003 and has changed dramatically over time. When asked about it, it noted that on a personal level, he recalls just going into an office and trying to do the job of someone far more qualified and expecting to get good results for the company. He brought up how he ended up in a company that had the best wrestlers in the world He recalled seeing guys such as Christopher Daniels, Samoa Joe, and Low Ki

“It gave me a solid foundation to become the wrestler I am today. Ring of Honor taught me so much about the wrestling business, and then I had to go to TNA to learn about wrestling on TV, in front of cameras, on PPV, and that was another part of my life that went a long way to shaping my character. Today I feel like I could offer an awful lot to any wrestling company, but there’s no way I felt like that back then.”

  • Joe Koff Looks To Ring Of Honor’s Future

Joe Koff Looks To Ring Of Honor’s Future

With The Elite looking to try and shake up the pro wrestling landscape, it may leave many companies suddenly lacking in star power. This is especially true of promotions who have leaned on the draw of Bullet Club/The Elite as a cornerstone of their show.

Ring Of Honor (ROH) has utilized members of The Elite for years on their programming, but with the advent of All Elite Wrestling on the horizon, things could change pretty quickly as many of their main event players may no longer be available.

Speaking to Nick Hausman for the WINCLY podcast, Koff addressed the rumors of All Elite Wrestling and the relative impact it may have on ROH.

“I read what you read,” Koff said. “I wish I could say I had the inside on that. They’ve [The Elite] had great success in working together and I only hope that they continue to have that success because they deserve that kind of success.

He goes on to express that because nothing has been officially announced as of yet, “to speculate on that [AEW] would be senseless.”

    Looking To The Future

With the risk of his main event roster being ransacked effecting ROH, Koff rebuffed the sentiment by highlighting wrestlers he feels could step up during 2019.

“Marty [Scurll] is up in there. Jay Lethal is up in there. Jeff Cobb is an extremely exciting performer, I love watching him. Flip Gordon. Matt Taven. I could probably go deeper than five,” he said.

Koff is clearly confident in ROH and its future, stating that they have “no shortage of talent, which is why ROH is so exciting to me and we always deliver a product. We wrestle a brand. We wrestle a style. Regardless of who’s wrestling that brand or style, the fans’ expectations have always been met.”

Ring Of Honor’s December event, Final Battle, goes down December 14th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City.

  • PCO Apologizes To Fans For Canceling Indie Bookings

PCO Apologizes To Fans For Canceling Indie Bookings

We recently reported on Ring Of Honor (ROH) signing the resurgent independent star, PCO (Pierre Carl Oullet). Oh, and the fact he bit the head off a fish.

PCO called his signing to ROH the “biggest contract and opportunity” of his career as he gears up to leave Major League Wrestling (MLW) and the indie scene behind.

He has since taken to Twitter to apologize to fans for pulling out of a number of those independent bookings.

Oullet, who is a former WWE Tag Team Champion and WCW Hardcore Champion stated:

“Wanted to say sorry for having to cancelled all my recent & future bookings !Yesterday @BarWrestling .Tomorow @WrestleACTION1 &others feds as well ,because of the signing of my recent full exclusive contract ! Thanks 2 my fans & promotors for understanding this delicate situation”

    https://twitter.com/PCOisNotHuman/status/1070653556401655808

His Tweet directly indicates that the cancelation of these indie dates could be attributed to his recent “full exclusive contract” with Ring Of Honor.

It’s reported that PCO will begin working for ROH as soon as possible. With the company’s December event, Final Battle, going down on the 14th with TV tapings the next night, it may be a perfect time to debut and make an immediate impact.

What do you make of this? Were you looking forward to seeing PCO at a show he’s canceled? Do you think PCO will be a major player in ROH?

  • New Matches Set For Post-ROH Final Battle TV Taping

New Matches Set For Post-ROH Final Battle TV Taping

Several matches for the final Ring of Honor television taping of 2018 have been announced. Those matches include ROH TV Champion Jeff Cobb vs. Luchasaurus in a Proving Ground Match, PJ Black vs. Juice Robinson, and CMLL star Rush vs. TK O’Ryan.

This will be an important television taping for a few different reasons. It will feature the fallout from the programs and matches that went down at Final Battle. Also, it will likely be the final appearances for The Young Bucks, Cody and Adam Page with the promotion.

ROH will hold this taping the night after their final pay-per-view event of the year, Final Battle. The Baltimore-based promotion is expected to announce more matches for this show in the coming days. Here’s the updated card:

Post-ROH Final Battle TV Taping Card

    • ROH TV Champion Jeff Cobb vs. Luchasaurus – Proving Ground Match
    • Rush vs. TK O’Ryan
    • Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Tracy Williams
    • PJ Black vs. Juice Robinson

ROH World Champion Jay Lethal, ROH World Tag Team Champions SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky), ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Champions The Kingdom (Matt Taven, TK O’Ryan, Vinny Marseglia), Women of Honor Champion Sumie Sakai, Rush, “The American Nightmare” Cody, The Briscoes (Jay & Mark Briscoe), “The Villain” Marty Scurll, Madison Rayne, Christopher Daniels, Bully Ray, Flip Gordon are also advertised to appear at the taping.

Ring of Honor is slated to hold their Final Battle pay-per-view event on December 14, 2018 in Manhattan, New York at the Hammerstein Ballroom.

  • PCO Signs With Ring Of Honor

PCO Signs With Ring Of Honor

Pierre Carl Ouelette, now known as PCO, has signed with Ring of Honor. The news comes 2 weeks after SEScoops exclusive report revealed PCO’s rival, Brody King, had done the same.

The 50-year-old will be leaving MLW as a result of his new contract with ROH. The exclusive contract will also prevent him from appearing for Black Label Pro as well.

PCO teased the news earlier on Twitter:

Signing with ROH also opens up the possibility both PCO and Brody King could compete with NJPW as well.

    PCO Revitalizes Career in 2018

PCO appeared on the Steve Austin podcast in September. During the interview, he referred to 2018 as the best year of his career, including the years he was with WWE.

“The greatest year of my life as far as a pro-wrestler because I’m making more money this year than I made in 1993 with Vince, in 1995 with Vince, in 1998, 1999, or in 1996 with WCW.”

In terms of what is left for the man who recently bit the head of a fish, PCO had this to say:

“My goal is to fight the Undertaker at Wrestlemania 35. My PCO character is a bit like a French Frankenstein, and is tailor-made to fight the Deadman,” PCO said to Grizzly Media earlier this summer. “I am presently in an incredible form, and I am in all the major events of the independent scene. I declined an offer from TNA because I really believe that I can reach WWE for one last run.”

It looks as though the rivalry between Brody King and PCO will continue in 2019, this time in Ring of Honor.

  • Joe Koff: Cody & The Young Bucks Not Expected Back In ROH Next Year

Joe Koff: Cody & The Young Bucks Not Expected Back In ROH Next Year

Ring of Honor COO, Joe Koff, is not expecting the Young Bucks, Cody, or the rest of the Elite back in ROH next year. Koff spoke to Wrestling Inc recently regarding what the future holds for ROH in 2019.

“I don’t think (the Elite will return), and I don’t think that’s new news either,” Koff said regarding the pending departures. “They definitely have something in mind… and I’m very thankful for Cody and The Young Bucks and Page and their contributions to ROH.”

Members of the Elite played a pivotal role in ROH’s 2018. The promotion is used to talent making a splash and leaving, however.

“They were part of our great year,” Koff continued. “They’ll always be a part of the ROH family and I’m always excited when people choose to take a different direction or go in a different direction because it’s exciting for them as they embark on the next chapter of their lives.”

What Is Next For ROH? What Is Next For The Elite?

“These guys are very good marketers and very strong,” Koff said regarding the Elite. “Throughout the years, we’ve provided wrestlers a unique platform to showcase their talents to worldwide audiences. We’re so proud of our wrestlers, who’ve not only gone on to successful careers outside of ROH, but [also] the ones who have continued to stay here because they understand what ROH represents.”

Another big question remains for Ring of Honor as they approach Final Battle, however. What happens if Cody defeats Jay Lethal and regains the ROH World Championship.

“If he does it, then we’ll have to deal with it,” Koff answered. “I think Jay’s a formidable competitor. He’s been a great champion and I don’t think it will be a walk in the park for either. But as always, the best man will win and that speaks to itself.”

  • Silas Young Expected To Re-Sign With ROH

Silas Young Expected To Re-Sign With ROH

Despite being spotted at Monday Night Raw recently, Silas Young is expected to sign a new deal with ROH. According to a report from the Wrestling Observer, the two sides have agreed on a new 3-year deal for the 39-year-old.

“Silas Young was offered a new three-year deal that right now he’s expected to accept,” Dave Meltzer wrote. “There were rumors of him leaving because he was at the 11/26 Raw show, but he was there because his son, a big WWE fan, wanted to attend.”

Raw was in Silas’ hometown of Milwaukee, WI.

    Silas Young ROH

Young is a 16-year pro, having begun his career in 2002. He made his first appearances for ROH in 2007 and was a regular by 2012. He is a former 2x ROH TV champion and won the Honor Rumble in 2016.

Young revealed in a 2011 interview that prior to becoming a pro-wrestler, he had been addicted to heroin.

“Ya know a lot of people think that heroin addiction would be a touchy subject which is why I chose to share that part of me,” Young said to 411Mania. “I was young and stupid as fuck (obviously) but I’m a firm believer that everything happens for a reason. Wrestling is honestly what got me to get clean then start working out then wrestling training and then getting booked on every single show I could. I got to meet my wife along the way. Maybe if I wouldn’t have become a heroin addict maybe I wouldn’t be where I’m at now in life and I’m pretty happy with what I got.”

  • Joey Mercury’s Lawyers Issue Statement On Dismissed Charges

Joey Mercury’s Lawyers Issue Statement On Dismissed Charges

Joey Mercury was able to prove he was not responsible for a series of fraudulent credit card purchases recently. Mercury was arrested over All In Weekend in Chicago when it was discovered he had an outstanding warrant from Florida. His passport records and proof of him participating at wrestling events during the time in which the crimes happened led to charges against him being dismissed yesterday, however.

Just because the charges were dismissed and Mercury was proven innocent doesn’t mean he hasn’t suffered as a result, however. The arrest led to Mercury not being able to work as an agent for All In. Reports of his arrest, even though he was innocent, could also have potentially prevented other promoters from booking Joey.

Mercury’s lawyer’s released the following statement in regard’s to his case:

    https://twitter.com/joeyfromROH/status/1067535321729048576

    Seth Rollins Responds

WWE Intercontinental Champion, Seth Rollins, commented on the situation involving the former J&J Security Team member.

“Innocence should never be taken for granted. Joey’s story is just one of many, but hopefully his case can help bring attention to those who’ve been wronged as well.

Unfortunately for Joey and others, the public can often view celebrities as “guilty until proven innocent” when reports of their arrest surface. In the case of Mercury, he was able to prove his innocence but doing so isn’t always that easy, even for the truly innocent.

  • Silas Young Spotted At Last Night’s Monday Night Raw

Silas Young Spotted At Last Night’s Monday Night Raw

It was only recently that we reported on how Ring Of Honor wrestler, Silas Young, defines a ‘real man.’

Turns out ‘The Last Real Man’ can add ‘watching Raw live’ to that list.

According to PWInsider, Silas Young was present at last night’s Monday Night Raw event in Milwaukee.

Like the recent Enzo Amore debacle at Survivor Series, Young was a part of the crowd. Unlike the Amore incident, Young remained discreet and hidden throughout.

This appearance comes at an interesting time given that his contract with Ring of Honor expires at the end of the year. Because of this, rumors have begun to circulate that Young may end up signing with the WWE once his contractual obligations to Ring of Honor are completed.

Silas Young achieved quite a lot during his tenure with ROH. He has won the ROH World Television Champion twice and featured in a number of high profile, main event feuds. A consistent member of the ROH roster since 2012, losing him would be an unfortunate blow to the company.

Ring of Honor still has their Final Battle PPV event coming up in December. Despite not currently having an opponent, Young is currently scheduled to participate when it goes down at the Hammerstein Ballroom, December 14th.

What do you think? Would Silas Young make a great addition to the WWE roster? Who could you see him feuding with?

  • ‘Hurricane’ Shane Helms Clarifies His Position In Ring Of Honor

‘Hurricane’ Shane Helms Clarifies His Position In Ring Of Honor

Earlier in the summer, Ring Of Honor announced that they had signed “Hurricane” Shane Helms to a deal that would see the wrestler become a part of the ROH roster. In that time, the Hurricane has had a number of matches with The Villain, Marty Scurll.

Despite this initial Superhero vs Villain offering, Shane Helms hasn’t been featured heavily on ROH’s TV output, leading some to speculate there could be issues between Helms and ROH.

Speaking with Jim Ross on Ross’ popular Ross Report podcast, the Hurricane took the opportunity to clear the air and clarify the situation.

Helms states that he is still a part of the Ring Of Honor roster, but confesses that “[…] we just haven’t agreed to dates.”

“We’re on wonderful terms. They are super happy with me. They’re happy with how everything worked out with me and Marty Scurll. Yeah, I like [ROH]. I like the locker room. They’re very positive. Everybody’s busy.”

His feud with The Villain saw them wrestle four times since Helms’ initial signing. The record stood at a win a piece and a no-contest before Scurll ultimately came out on top over the former WWE Cruiserweight champion.

  • Silas Young Defines What It Means To Be A ‘Real Man’

Silas Young Defines What It Means To Be A ‘Real Man’

Channelling a gritty, old-school mentality, Ring Of Honor’s Silas Young purports to be the ‘Last Real Man’ in pro wrestling.

Speaking with the WINCLY podcast, Young offered his opinion on what defines a ‘real man’ in this day and age.

“It means to stick to your guns,” he explained. “When you make a decision, [you] make a decision and stand by it. Don’t back-pedal. Stand up for what you believe in.”

He does note during the interview, however, that your core beliefs should not hurt others, and stresses the importance of remaining true and positive for yourself.

“[Being a ‘real man’] also means that realizing what you believe and what you stand for, is something that’s not hurting other people, that you’re doing something for yourself,” he extrapolated. “It’s just basically being a good person and standing by your word.”

Silas Young has made a name for himself within Ring Of Honor as a brash throwback to a time when men would say little but could hit hard, if needed. Gruff, to the point, and prone to brawling rather than talking.

Young was previously aligned with the Beer City Bruiser and, for a short time, Brian Milanos before distancing himself from them as he continues to climb the ROH rankings.

What do you think of Silas’ take on what it means to be a ‘real man’? Agree or disagree? Do you think ‘The Last Real Man’ gimmick works in 2018?

Jeff Cobb Shares His Thoughts On Ring Of Honor

It didn’t take long for Jeff Cobb to establish himself as one of Ring Of Honor’s top stars. After ripping through the roster, interrupting matches and securing his place as a top prospect, Cobb would go on to decimate ‘Punishment’ Martinez at ROH’s 10/21 TV episode, picking up the TV title in an astounding 1 minute and 27 seconds.

Speaking with Jim Ross on The Jim Ross Report podcast, Cobb covered a range of subjects, including his previous and current experiences with both New Japan Pro Wrestling and Ring Of Honor.

Effusive with his praise, Jeff Cobb shared that he was truly enjoying his time at ROH so far and that he would be a part of their roster for the “foreseeable future.”

“My time at Ring Of Honor has been fantastic!” he exclaimed. “Every taping that I’ve done, every live show, live event, that I’ve done, every pay-per-view that I’ve made an appearance in, I’ve had a blast.”

“Like, all the dudes in the back are great, from the top to the bottom, everybody has just been awesome,” he said. “Like, the staff [has] been cool, the booker’s cool, [ROH COO] Joe Koff has been super nice to me,” he said, before adding, “[…] it [has] been a great time back there and I’ll be with Ring Of Honor for the foreseeable future.”

Having made such an immediate impact within their ranks, it probably won’t be long before we see Cobb in ROH’s main event scene.

Jay Lethal is on pace to pass the most combined days spent as ROH champion record of 645 days on February 3rd, 2019. The record is currently held by Samoa Joe who held the title for 645 straight days on his only run with the belt. Cody has previously defeated Juice at WrestleKingdom in 2017 and beat him for the IWGP United States title at Fighting Spirit Unleashed in September. Juice challenged Cody to another match after replacing him and defeating Beretta at Global Wars: Toronto.
