  • The Briscoe Brothers Announce They’re Staying With ROH

Ring of Honor has announced that The Briscoe Brothers have re-signed with the promotion. ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe and his brother Mark had been negotiating with both ROH and WWE, with ROH ultimately making them an offer they couldn’t refuse.

ROH caught up with the Briscoe Brothers at their farm in Sandy Fork, Delaware to get an official statement from the men themselves. They made it clear that they’re ‘just getting started’ and will be raising hell in ROH for years to come.

ROH sent out a press release stating:

The Briscoe Brothers have been with Ring of Honor “since day one,” and now, ROH can confirm that the Briscoes are here to stay!

Jay and Mark have nearly thirty years of combined experience between the ropes , have traveled the world, and have earned many championships along the way. Jay Briscoe is in the midst of an incredible second run as World Champion, a feat accomplished by only two men in the entire history of ROH, and together, the Briscoes hold the record for ROH Tag Team Championships with eight amazing reigns.

The Briscoes built their legacies in Ring of Honor and for Dem Boys from Sandy Fork, there’s no place like home…and no place like Ring of Honor.

  • Update On The Briscoe Brothers’ Negotiations With WWE & ROH

ROH World Champion Jay Briscoe and his brother Mark have been in negotiations with with both ROH and WWE for some time now and it’s now looking like they’ll will be staying in Ring of Honor.

The Briscoes recently received offers from both companies and were giving strong consideration to jumping to WWE/NXT. According to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio, Ring of Honor recently increased their offer – which led to the Briscoes contacting WWE again to see if they’d match it. WWE was reportedly not going to budge from their initial offer.

Another factor in their decision is that the Briscoes run farming businesses based out of Delaware, which they’re able to do since they only work 5-6 ROH dates per month. Signing with WWE would only be worthwhile if they were able to make more than their current income from ROH, independent appearances and farming.

  • Former ROH Stars Take Over WWE & NXT Title Picture, Itami-Owens Exchange Words On Twitter

    – Coming out of this year’s WrestleMania, it’s worth noting that all but two of WWE’s current male champions (John Cena and Tyson Kidd) came from Ring Of Honor. WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, NXT Champion Kevin Owens, WWE Intercontinental Champion Daniel Bryan and one-half of the WWE Tag-Team Champions, Cesaro, all spent time in ROH.

    – This week’s edition of NXT featured a look at Hideo Itami’s “Road to WrestleMania,” which led to the following back-and-forth on Twitter between Itami and NXT Champion Kevin Owens.

  • Christopher Daniels Explains Why He Left TNA, Talks Working With El Patron, ROH

Former TNA star Christopher Daniels recently spoke with the folks at Kayfabe Kickout about his decision to leave TNA, return to ROH and more. Below are some highlights from the interview.

On whether he saw the move coming that he would have to eventually leave TNA: “I was definitely surprised and disappointed. I knew that we (Frankie and myself) weren’t being used as a top tag-team despite being told repeatedly that we were one of the most entertaining acts on the roster, but I figured that there was an ebb and flow to it all, and once TNA signed Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards, I assumed there’d be an opportunity for us to come back into the spotlight in a feud against them. But that wasn’t the case.”

On whether sees himself in the ROH Title picture after his match with Roderick Strong at Supercard of Honor IX: “Well, I believe that as one of the first talents to work at the main event level in RoH, I can always be looked upon as a viable contender to the heavyweight title. But a lot of that depends on the future for Frankie and me as a tag team, which I feel is very positive at this point.”

On working with Alberto El Patron (Alberto Del Rio): “I was very proud that the company viewed me as a potential opponent for Alberto. I felt that it was a sign of their confidence in me as a wrestler to put me in such a high-profile match.”

  • Ring Of Honor Superstar Fired After Attacking Official

Ring Of Honor posted the following update on their official website this morning, stating that superstar Tommaso Ciampa has been “fired’ for “brutally attacking” ROH senior official Todd Sinclair at the company’s tapings in San Antonio. Ciampa has been storyline reprimanded before for similar actions, including attacking Nigel McGuinness, and it’s unclear when he will make his return to television.

Tommaso Ciampa has been fired from Ring of Honor for brutally attacking ROH Senior official Todd Sinclair this past Saturday night in San Antonio, Texas.
Ciampa had previously been indefinitely suspended for attacking the ROH ring crew and Ring Announcer Bobby Cruise last August. After negotiations with ROH Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness, Ciampa was given a second chance this past November to prove he was reformed. McGuinness informed him that he would be allowed back into Ring of Honor with the understanding that there would be a zero tolerance for any contact with ROH officials or employees.
Ciampa appeared to have his temper under control and had even recently earned a shot at the ROH World Championship on our 13th Anniversary Pay Per View just last month. This past Saturday night Ciampa once again attacked an official which left Nigel with no other alternative but to fire him.
We at Ring of Honor refuse to condone such actions and will work to our utmost capabilities to ensure the safety of our superstars, officials and staff. ROH executives are currently reviewing the footage to determine whether Ciampa’s actions can air on Ring of Honor Television. Please stay turned towww.rohwrestling.com for the latest update and announcements regarding this reprehensible situation.

  • Spoilers: Title Change At Ring Of Honor TV Tapings, Masked Men Identities Revealed

At yesterday’s Ring of Honor TV tapings in San Antonio, TX, The Addiction (Christopher Daniels & Frankie Kazarian) defeated reDRagon to become the new Ring of Honor Tag Team Champions.

Daniels and Kazarian also revealed that they were two of the masked men who have been appearing on Ring of Honor television over the past few months, with the third member being former TNA star Chris Sabin. Below is a promo featuring The Addiction discussing their match with reDRagon.

  • Top NJPW Talent Coming To Ring Of Honor In May

Ring of Honor’s annual “War of the Worlds” event will be held in Philadelphia at the 2300 Arena (ECW Arena) on May 12-13, and the company will also be holding a “Global Wars” pay-per-view event in Toronto on May 15-16 at the Ted Reeve Arena.

In order to build excitement for the event, the company is announcing the New Japan superstars one-by-one on their official Twitter account. The first name is one that will be familiar to anyone who watched “Wrestle Kingdom 9” in January, as he walked out as the IWGP Heavyweight Champion. That man is of course Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Often compared to John Cena, Tanahashi is one of the most popular superstars in the world and considered by many to be one of the finest wrestlers one will find anywhere. Tanahashi is a seven time IWGP Heavyweight Champion, although his most recent reign was a short one after dropping the title to AJ Styles at February’s “The New Beginning” pay-per-view.

In addition, Ring of Honor announced just moments ago that Tanahashi’s “Wrestle Kingdom 9” opponent, Kazuchika Okada, will also be performing at the events. The “Rainmaker” is one of the most accomplished wrestlers in Japanese wrestling today, having won the G1 Climax Tournament, the New Japan Cup, and the IWPG Heavyweight Championship.

Ring of Honor will continue to announce superstars in the coming days and is encouraging fans to tweet them potential match-ups @ringofhonor.

Tickets for the May 13th show in Philadelphia have already sold out, but are still available for the other three nights and can be purchased online through this link.

  • Update On Top ROH Talents Heading To WWE, Rumor Killer On The Briscoes

Update On Top ROH Talents Heading To WWE, Rumor Killer On The Briscoes

Despite rumors that top Ring Of Honor stars such as The Briscoes are headed to WWE soon, the decorated tag-team is actually locked-in to ROH until at least mid-summer, and the word going around is that they will not be going to NXT.

Other talents, however, are expected to turn up in WWE such as Jimmy Jacobs, who signed with WWE in a creative team capacity, and Samoa Joe, who is rumored to be signing with WWE next month.

  • ROH Veteran Jimmy Jacobs Signs With WWE To Join The Creative Team

ROH Veteran Jimmy Jacobs Signs With WWE To Join The Creative Team

Former Ring Of Honor (ROH) tag-team champion Jimmy Jacobs has signed a deal with WWE and is expected to start with the company in April.

Despite his decorated past as a wrestler, Jacobs’ deal with WWE calls for him to join the creative team in the company, as opposed to signing as an in-ring performer.

Jacobs’ WWE signing has reportedly been in the works for a while now. His last appearance in ROH will likely be the “Supercard of Honor” event on March 27th in California.

  • ROH In Talks With Spike TV, Mysterio’s AAA Return Postponed

    – Sunday night’s AAA Rey de Reyes iPPV was postponed to Monday night at 8pm due to extreme rain in Guadalajara. AAA President Joaquin Roldan announced the change with the roster in the ring last night.

Rey Mysterio was scheduled to make his AAA return when he teamed with Myzteziz, the original Sin Cara.

    – Spike TV President Kevin Kay recently spoke to the Boston Herald about the network’s new “Friday Night Lights Out” block of combat sports programming. When asked about whether Ring of Honor would be a good fit for the rebranded network, Kay said they’ve had some preliminary talks with them:

“I’m not sure there is a deal there. We’re just kind of getting to know each other. .?.?. I think for Spike, the big question is, do we want to get into the professional wrestling business in any way? And I don’t have the answer to that yet. I don’t know that we’re going to do anything there, but if we do something, it’s probably not part of ‘Friday Night Lights Out.’ We want to keep that for real sports.”

  • WWE Scouting ROH Talent, Backstage News On NXT Call-Ups

WWE officials are interested in signing several wrestlers from Ring of Honor and are waiting for the contracts of key talents to expire so they can begin negotiations, according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter. Over the last year, the recruiting philosophy of NXT has changed quite a bit. While WWE was originally looking to sign wrestlers with little in-ring experience in an effort to build them completely from the ground up, WWE is putting much more of an emphasis on signing top stars from the indy scene.

Regarding NXT call-ups, there’s still no word on when NXT Champion Kevin Owens or Sami Zayn will be brought up to the main roster. NXT Women’s Champion Sasha Banks, Adrian Neville and Charlotte are seen as the next round of call-ups. WWE typically introduces new talent right after WrestleMania, so we could see Neville, Zayn or Charlotte on WWE TV as soon as next month.

  • Notes On Brock Lesnar At Monday’s RAW, Samoa Joe To Challenge For ROH World Title?

    – While still unofficial at this point, based on Saturday night’s Ring Of Honor television taping, it was strongly suggested that Samoa Joe vs. Jay Briscoe for the ROH World Championship will take place as the main event for the “Supercard of Honor” event in Redwood City, California on March 27th.

For those who missed it, Samoa Joe is also scheduled to wrestle Michael Elgin at the ROH event at The Frontier Fieldhouse in Chicago Ridge, Illinois on March 14th.

    – WWE World Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar is scheduled to return on Monday’s edition of WWE RAW, which takes place in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and features rapper Wiz Khalifa as the special guest host. If Lesnar appears, it will be his first WWE appearance since walking out during a live RAW following a major backstage blow-up with Vince McMahon.

  • Matt Sydal Talks ROH Competing With WWE, Being In Trouble Towards The End Of His WWE Run

Former WWE Superstar and current Ring Of Honor performer Matt Sydal (aka Evan Bourne) recently spoke with Aaron Oster of The Baltimore Sun to promote this weekend’s ROH show in Baltimore, Maryland. Below are highlights from the interview.

On if ROH would be able to compete with WWE if they got a big cable deal: “It’s not about competing, it’s about putting on a product that people enjoy, and fostering love for this wrestling art that we all do. If anything, it would probably boost WWE’s numbers because wrestling ebbs and flows together. So if somebody comes in and lights a spark in wrestling, which is what Ring of Honor does, then we light a fire for the entire industry. Wrestling has the ability to get red-hot again at a moment’s notice. Ring of Honor could be the coal that gets that done.”

On being in “wrestling purgatory” at the end of his WWE run between injuries and suspension: “Forget wrestling purgatory, I was in life purgatory. One of the hardest things, as someone who has based his entire life on being an agile athlete, was to be literally stuck on a couch for two years. Going from ninja-like agility to unable to walk up the stairs for 18 months. It was very much a trial of my will and forced me to adapt to a whole different life that I never experienced. I wasn’t traveling on the road. I wasn’t wrestling. That’s something I hadn’t done since I was 17 years old. It’s hard to change your trajectory in life, and very rarely do you get the chance to sit back and think about where you’ve been and where you want to go. That’s what I was able to do. Being injured physically reminded me that your body is a temporary vessel. However, you have many things that can last a lot longer, like your mind. If you exercise your mind as much as your body, you’re going to get a lot more mileage out of everything. I was able to gain certain valuable insight that I was able to use to become the best wrestler I’ve ever been.”

  • AJ Styles On Samoa Joe’s ROH Return, “Styles Clash” Controversy & More

International wrestling star AJ Styles appeared on the “Chad Dukes Wrestling Show” recently to discuss a number of topics, including the return of Samoa Joe to Ring Of Honor, the controversy over his “Styles Clash” finisher and more. Below are highlights from the interview.

On Samoa Joe returning to ROH: “Joe coming back to Ring of Honor is huge. He and I talked before he released his statement but I was excited about him maybe having the opportunity for him to come back to Ring of Honor because it’s exciting to have a guy who you know works hard and can do unbelievable things and has a history at Ring of Honor. I’m excited to see the welcome he gets when he comes back, not just from the guys in the back, because I know they will welcome him, but from the fans waiting on him.”

On ROH: “I think they’re trying. You don’t want to move too fast, you start to move fast and you make holes that cost you your company. I think they’re doing the right thing in bringing in these guys, giving these dream matches that people want to see. To me it’s not taking a step back, it’s actually going somewhere having fun and having great matches.”

On the Styles Clash: “The one thing I can’t control is your head, that’s up to you, and there’s only one thing you can’t do in the move is tuck it. There’s no reason for you to do that.

At the end of the day if they don’t want to take it I have no problem not doing the Styles Clash, there are other things that I can do. But if the promoter wants it and everybody’s cool with it that’s what we’re gonna do.”

  • Samoa Joe On CM Punk’s Cryptic Tweet, ROH Return, NXT & More

Samoa Joe recently spoke to the Chad Dukes Wrestling Show about his TNA departure, return to Ring Of Honor and whether or not he would go through NXT if WWE were to sign him.

Below are highlights from the interview.

On Returning to ROH: “I think certain times in your career you reexamine things and a change of scenery is nice. It’s good for the fans, it’s good for me, and I think it’s healthy all around. I’m excited about some new matches for me, there’s some guys out there I haven’t had a chance to work with especially some younger guys, up and comers, that I think have tremendous promise and talent and I get to get in there and mix it up with them.”

“It kinda was a culmination over the past few months of various factors, various reasons. You kind of come to these big decisions and I kind of looked around saw the landscape of things and thought it was the time.”

On the safety of the Styles Clash: “I’ve taken the Styles Clash several times and AJ’s a formidable athlete in his own right, it’s never been an issue of safety with me ever. I understand how people feel, there’s obviously been injuries involved with it, but I know especially with my very long-term experience with experiencing the move on all ends of it, it’s always been a safe as far as injuries go move and I’ve never really had an issue with it.”

On CM Punk’s tweet to him about “owing him one.” “Time will tell and that’s really up to him and obviously his obligations to UFC. I know he’s training real hard for his upcoming fight but if he wants to throw down, if he wants to scrap, you can come over here and start off with me and see what’s left when you go into the octagon.”

On if he would go through NXT if signed by WWE: “I’ve never shied away from an opportunity to prove myself. Every promotion I’ve ever worked for, initially when I started out, never wanted me. I remember my first Ring of Honor show and [Gabe Sapolsky. Former ROH booker] told me, ‘Hey listen, we can’t afford a flight out from California every month, so it will probably be a one-off deal.’ And then walking back through the curtain after that first match and him going, ‘you’re on every show.’ I think when you do get to the point where you’re not willing to go out there and prove what you can do, I understand guys they feel strongly a certain way, that’s fine, I think it’s individual for everybody, but I know for me I’ve never shied away from an opportunity to prove myself anywhere.”

“I’ve always firmly believed that you can’t deny talent and cream always rises to the top. Those are two things you always hear clichés among all sports not just pro wrestling and it’s something that I firmly believe. At the end of the day, if you’ve got it you’re going to get there. You’ve got to find the opportunities, the doors and the windows you can find and do what you need to do.”

  • Alberto El Patron Busted Open Last Night In ROH, Cody Hall Debuts for NJPW

    – Alberto El Patron got busted open at last night’s Ring of Honor live event in Dayton, Ohio. He did not suffer a concussion, as some other sites reported.

During a match with former ROH Champion Roderick Strong, Alberto was dropped on the guard rail at ringside and was bleeding pretty badly from his mouth or nose. He won via cross armbreaker.

    – Cody Hall made his New Japan Pro Wrestling debut on Monday in Japan. In a match that pitted the Bullet Club against Team New Japan, Tanahashi pinned Hall.

  • Seth Rollins Talks About The Possibility Of Wrestling Triple H, His Time In ROH

Mr. Money in the Bank Seth Rollins was interviewed by James Delow for TalkSport.com‘s new wrestling podcast, Gorilla Position. Here are some highlights of what he said about:

The Possibility of Wrestling Triple H:

“I wouldn’t mind having a match with Triple H some day, a singles match,” said Rollins. “I know that’s interesting considering our current affiliation, but there doesn’t always have to be an element of hate involved there – it could be a competitive match.

“He’s someone who is a measuring stick, he’s done a lot for me specifically and I’d just like to test the water at some point. I think it would be a really interesting match up.”

Seth continued, “For me, he’s been an incredible mentor. You really can’t ask for a better mentor than The Game himself. If you look at what he’s done in our industry over the last 20 years and his position in the company, It is incredible. He thinks about things so differently too. You may not think that about him – a lot of people may think he’s very vanilla or cut and dry – but man, he thinks about things so differently and he absolutely loves WWE. Just loves it, it is his passion.”

“He’s built for the role he’s in now. It’s an exciting time,” he added.

    Ring of Honor:

“They’re a niche product that caters to a different kind of wrestling fan, a hardcore, underground type of fan. But they do such a great job bringing in the best talent on the independent level, because you have no choice but to get better. And if you don’t get better, you’re just going to get shoved back down.”

“So, it is one of those things where if you want to get better and you want to learn, you want to grow as a professional, Ring of Honor is the place to be. I learned so much there in three years, I would never take that back. Even if you said, ‘Let’s go back in time, we can sign you to WWE today and you can skip this Ring of Honor nonsense,’ I wouldn’t have traded it for anything.”
