  • Alberto El Patron’s Match Set For ROH’s 13th Anniversary Pay-Per-View

    ROH issued the following …

THE WORLD TV TITLE WILL BE DEFENDED IN LAS VEGAS
Alberto El Patrón vs Jay Lethal – Live on PPV – Sun, March 1st

Rumors of a dream match have swirled on social media but now it is official. The legendary, 2nd generation Mexican wrestling star, Alberto El Patrón, will challenge Jay Lethal for the Ring of Honor World Television Championship live on Pay Per View at our 13th Anniversary event.

Upon his arrival in ROH, Alberto El Patrón wanted an opportunity to speak with his fans on ROH Television. Alberto proclaimed that he was finally among the best wrestlers on the planet and he wanted a shot at the most important title in professional wrestling, the ROH World Championship. Lethal and his manager, Truth Martini took major offense to this and Lethal interrupted Alberto, telling him he should have done his homework before coming to class. Lethal made it known that he is the measuring stick for the best professional wrestler on the planet and that his championship was the most important.

This meeting of two very different athletes in the prime of their careers is something that does not happen very often. This rivalry has taken on a personal twist as Lethal feels Alberto overlooked him as a champion. El Patrón believes Lethal has challenged his manhood, something for which Alberto will not stand.

Can Lethal add Alberto El Patrón to the record list of contenders he has defeated? Can Alberto El Patrón make history by ending the historic reign of Lethal? To find out you will either need to be live in Las Vegas or on Pay per View!

  • Main Event Announced For ROH’s 13th Anniversary PPV On March 1st

    ROH issued the following …

The Main Event Has Been Set for the 13th Anniversary Pay Per View

With Ring of Honor’s 13th Anniversary on the horizon, the ROH World Championship scene is in chaos. But with a championship so universally respected, it should come as no surprise that so many ROH stars are all in hot pursuit of gold – and it’s up to Head Matchmaker Nigel McGuinness to make the final decisions. It’s an unenviable task, and it’s only getting more difficult. Neither Michael Elgin nor Tommaso Ciampa is known for being calm and collected. Two of the most driven – and volatile – athletes in the history of ROH, both Elgin and Ciampa believe they are the rightful number one contender. And it looks as if they are willing to destroy everything in their path until one of them gets a title shot!

Ciampa’s ROH career could have ended at FINAL BATTLE when he collided with an official and violated the “zero tolerance” policy governing his reinstatement. But as we saw on ROH TV, Nigel McGuinness stepped in and made the call. While he does believe that Ciampa accidentally struck an official he ruled that this is Ciampa’s last chance. The zero tolerance policy remains in effect and Ciampa will be held fully responsible if he violates it.

If it’s about earning opportunities, who has done more to elevate himself in the past year than Hanson? Nigel has already decided to make the night’s scheduled contest of Elgin vs. Hanson a Number One Contender’s match. That battle would have been incredibly heated no matter what, given the growing rivalry between the competitors. But then Nigel added Ciampa to the mix! The resulting three way match recently aired on ROH TV, with many calling it an early match of the year contender! But the hostilities couldn’t be contained, and the match degenerated into a disqualification. We STILL have no number one contender.

We really can’t discuss the top contender without talking about the ROH World Champion, Jay Briscoe. One of only two men to capture the title twice, Briscoe never backs down from a challenge. And with several ROH stars gunning for him, he’s sworn to go “all in”! The champion himself has asked that all three men with a claim to the number one contender status get a shot at him – because he can beat them all!

After taking the time to consider all the options, Nigel McGuinness has finally decided. If Jay Briscoe wants to go “all in,” then what better place than Las Vegas? Now it’s official. Live on pay-per-view on March 1st.

HIGH STAKES FOUR CORNER SURVIVAL FOR THE ROH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP
Jay Briscoe (c) vs. Michael Elgin vs. Tommaso Ciampa vs. Hanson

With just one match confirmed, Ring of Honor’s 13th ANNIVERSARY is already a must-see event! If you can’t be there live, you can watch on pay-per-view.

  • Two Top Ring Of Honor Stars To Leave ROH To Work For TNA Or Lucha Underground?

Former WWE Diva Maria Kanellis, along with her husband, longtime Ring Of Honor star Mike Bennett, are currently working with ROH without contracts, as their previous deals with the company have expired.

Both Kanellis and Bennett have been negotiating with ROH for the past few months, however they are still committed to work with ROH and the two are scheduled to work tours of Japan later this year.

As things stand now, there’s a feeling that both Kanellis and Bennett are talking with TNA, as well as the Lucha Underground promotion. Whether or not a deal has been reached, or is in the process of being figured out, remains to be seen..

  • “Rowdy” Roddy Piper Confirmed For Ring Of Honor TV Taping On January 4th

Ring Of Honor issued the following on Monday:

AN APPEARANCE BY A LEGEND & TWO BIG MATCHES SIGNED FOR NASHVILLE!
    SATURDAY, JAN 4TH, 2014 – NASHVILLE FAIRGROUNDS

Ring of Honor’s first television taping of 2014 is less than two weeks away! On Saturday, January 4th, all the stars of ROH will be in Nashville. This event will host the first rounds of the 2014 Top Prospect Tournament. We can now confirm an appearance by a LEGEND and two more giant matches for
    Nashville!

ROWDY RODDY PIPER will make a very special appearance Saturday, January 4th for the fans in Nashville. This will be a rare chance to meet a Pro Wrestling Hall of Famer. Autographs will be available for a fee.

“Mr Wrestling” Kevin Steen vs. Chris Hero

Finally, we know Chris Hero’s first opponent as he returns to ROH – Kevin Steen! While Hero has already been announced as part of a major tag team match at Wrestling’s Finest in Pittsburgh, Nashville will host his very first match back in Ring of Honor. At Final Battle, Kevin Steen defeated Michael Bennett in a brutal brawl that destroyed the ringside area. While an incredibly talented wrestler in his own right, in recent years former ROH Champion Steen has tended toward ring apron power bombs and steel chairs over trading holds with his opponents. Nashville is going to see a huge styles clash as he welcomes the technically savvy Chris Hero back to ROH.

Chris Hero has made clear he has his sights set on Adam Cole and the ROH World Championship. His return matches to Ring of Honor will be his chance to prove he is still one of the best wrestlers on the planet, and Hero knows all eyes are on him. A collision with Kevin Steen could derail the comeback before it’s even started – or it could be the catalyst that sends Chris Hero barreling straight toward Adam Cole and Matt Hardy.

    ROH World TV Championship
ROH World TV Champion “Sicilian Psychopath” Tommaso Ciampa vs Silas Young

At Final Battle 2013, Tommaso Ciampa finally captured what has eluded him his entire Ring of Honor career: the ROH World TV Championship. He defeated longest reigning champion Matt Taven and destroyed the HOT at the same time. Ciampa has persevered a through horrifying injury and rehabilitation to begin 2014 more motivated and dominant than ever before. In Nashville, he makes his very first TV Title defense against Silas Young!

Nigel McGuinness is awarding Silas Young a TV Title opportunity after his Final Battle strap match victory against Mark Briscoe. Young has been building momentum in ROH and no doubt sees a title victory as a fitting way to kick off the year. Meanwhile, now that he finally holds ROH gold, there is no way Ciampa is losing his title without an all out war to defeat him. Be there in Nashville to see a huge match between two of the most intense, hardest hitting athletes in Ring of Honor!

Tickets to this television taping are available HERE. Keep checking rohwrestling.com for updated information on our first show of 2014!

As previously reported, Davey Richards will no longer be appearing at the Ring Of Honor “Final Battle” event on December 14th at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City. Richards confirmed this news in a statement he released this weekend, where he also revealed that as of right now he is officially done with ROH for good. Richards wrote:

“With a heavy heart I can announce I announce that myself and ROH have parted ways for good and I will not be at Final Battle. Please continue to support them and the incredible talent they have. Thanks for the memories. It was an amazing ride.”

Apparently Richards was let go from ROH and removed from his final scheduled booking with the company at the 12/14 event in NYC due to some comments he made in a recent Total Wrestling Magazine interview in the United Kingdom. Richards talked bad about the importance of the ROH titles and the iPPV issues ROH has been having not being his concern.

Richards reportedly made a point to apologize to the guys in ROH in the locker room at a recent show, and noted that the aforementioned magazine comments were taken out of context.
