Tony Khan: Supercard Of Honor Is A Transitional Show For ROH

Tony Khan knows how important Supercard of Honor is in beginning the transition period for ROH.

In early March, Khan announced that he is the new owner of Ring of Honor. At first, many questions were unanswered such as whether or not Khan would be running the promotion or if he’d have someone else in charge.

Khan told reporters during the AEW Revolution post-event scrum that will be the booker for ROH. Shortly after the scrum, SEScoops exclusively reported that Khan and his team at AEW were planning on running Supercard of Honor.

Transition Period For ROH, Says Tony Khan

During an appearance on SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, Tony Khan discussed the importance of Supercard of Honor as a transitional event for ROH.

“I had not scheduled this pay-per-view, the Ring of Honor Supercard but I really think it’s important for me because they sold tickets and made a commitment for the fans, to still do the show.

“I see it as a transitional show in many ways that I’m really excited about. It is the first show under new management and it’s also a transition show before I will relaunch what I hope to be a really great, new Ring of Honor television product.

“A weekly series wherever it does air or stream.”

We’ve already seen the big announcement that The Briscoes will indeed attend the event to put their ROH World Tag Team Championships on the line against FTR.

SEScoops had reported that there was some concern over whether or not The Briscoes could make it to Supercard of Honor but that worry has clearly vanished.

ROH Supercard Of Honor XV Match Card, Date & Time, How To Watch

Ring of Honor is returning to host their annual Supercard of Honor show as a part of WrestleMania weekend.

Ring of Honor announced on October 27, 2021 that they would be going on hiatus for the first quarter of 2022 after their Final Battle event. All their wrestlers and staff were released from their contracts on various dates.

    Supercard of Honor 2022

Supercard of Honor XV will be the first wrestling event of 2022 promoted by ROH following their hiatus. This is also their first event under the ownership of Tony Khan. This year’s event will be the 15th event in the Supercard of Honor chronology.

On the March 2 edition of AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan announced that he had purchased Ring Of Honor. This has left the Supercard of Honor XV up in the air and there are many questions surrounding the booking. • Exclusive: ROH Supercard of Honor Planning In Disarray

Exclusive: ROH Supercard of Honor Planning In Disarray

Ring of Honor’s pending sale has thrown planning for the upcoming ROH Supercard of Honor pay-per-view into disarray.

Supercard of Honor XV is scheduled to take place Friday, April 1st from the Curtis Culwell Center in Garland, Texas. It’ll be ROH’s first live event since December’s Final Battle.

Sources tell SEScoops that ROH is way behind on the show’s preparations, including finalizing the card, booking, travel arrangements and other logistics.

Earlier this week, a top ROH employee told staff,

“One way or another, Supercard is happening, as of today.. Supercard is moving forward.”

    Supercard of Honor XV

Tony Khan’s team (‘AEW’) wants to produce the PPV and use their own production resources that they feel comfortable with. AEW has run the building before and they know what they’re doing.

AEW also wants to handle the booking, but are being respectful of what’s already in place. The dynamic has been described to us as, “The AEW team wants things to go smoothly, but done their way.”

AEW requested a list of talent that is booked for the show. The list ROH provided includes Joe Hendry, Bandido, Jonathan Gresham and The Briscoes. However, the Briscoes are not locked in just yet.

The Briscoe Brothers are working the main event of Impact Wrestling’s ‘Multiverse of Matches’ event across town later that evening. ROH has discussed The Briscoes wrestling FTR at Supercard of Honor and then working for Impact afterwards, but that’s just wishful thinking at the moment.

Ring of Honor had a new logo designed and a total rebranding in the works that would represent the company’s new chapter after Supercard of Honor.

Digital assets have been created with the new look, as well video packages. They even had new ring skirts and turnbuckle pads made up with the new logo. As it turns out, the new logo may never see the light of day.

AEW wants to use the current ROH logo at the PPV to represent the end of this era before they completely take over with their own rebranding. As a result, ROH has two sets of marketing materials (current logo and new logo) but are expecting the current logo will be used.

Marketing campaigns for the PPV that are currently running will continue, including radio ads in the Dallas and NYC markets. There are no plans for additional media buys.

    Future of ROH TV

Ring of Honor has television produced through April 16th and those shows will all air even if Tony Khan’s deal to purchase the company closes before then.

Exclusive Details on the Sale of ROH, How Current Employees Are Affected

Ring of Honor will soon be under new ownership. With that transfer comes a major shake-up for the company’s operations.

Back in October 2021, ROH announced it would undergo a “reconceptualization” period after December’s Final Battle pay-per-view. All contracted wrestlers were also let go at this time. The company planned to relaunch in April 2022 with a mission to provide a new and unique fan-focused product.

Fast forward to the March 2nd episode of AEW Dynamite, which saw AEW President Tony Khan announce that he has an agreement in place to buy Ring of Honor’s video library, brand assets, and intellectual property.

The wrestling community largely embraced the deal, but a number of ROH employees will soon be out of work.

Winding Down of The Old ROH

SEScoops has learned Ring of Honor execs expect the deal with Tony Khan to close around the first week of April. It could be finalized sooner than that, but that is the timeframe they are working with.

There is a feeling that the deal went “in reverse” and “backwards” because it came together quickly and now a lot of details are being hammered out.

Trusted sources say ROH employees were told the company doesn’t get the impression the ‘new regime’ is interested in hiring them after the sale goes through. Staff has been encouraged to explore new career opportunities, including speaking to Sinclair Broadcast Group’s HR department about transferring elsewhere in the company. Severance packages are being considered but nothing is decided on yet.

Management is still unsure if they will issue a statement to let fans know that a new team will be bringing them the product they’ve followed for years.

The HonorClub streaming service is in limbo. ROH has a call scheduled with AEW to review the technical setup behind HonorClub and determine if that asset will be included as part of the sale. Otherwise, ROH will have to “unwind” everything related to that service. Subscribers will be notified of changes to the service and where they can get video content going forward at some point.

The general message to ROH staff has been described to us as, “We’re fighting for you and exploring how to help everyone. If you want to stay in the wrestling business, we’re doing our best, but there is no formal transition planned and no guarantee that anybody will stay on.”

  • Tony Khan Wants To Keep ROH Running, Plans To Be The Booker

Tony Khan Wants To Keep ROH Running, Plans To Be The Booker

AEW boss Tony Khan has plans of continuing the ROH wrestling operations.

Khan announced that he purchased Ring of Honor from Sinclair Broadcast Group on the March 2 episode of Dynamite. Not much else was known about the acquisition other than Khan now has full access to the ROH tape library along with brand assets, intellectual property, production equipment, and more.

    Future Of ROH

As expected, reporters at the AEW Revolution post-event scrum had some questions for Tony Khan in regards to the purchase of Ring of Honor. Khan revealed that he plans to keep ROH in business and he’s even looking to be the booker (h/t F4WOnline.com).

“What we’re going to do going forward? I think it assumes that we’re going to do something going forward. And yeah, I do still want to continue the operations going forward, and I am very excited about it and do have a lot of plans for it. I do expect to continue the wrestling operations.

“I’m gonna be the booker. And there’s a reason for that. Because I will be bringing in young wrestlers, and they have a lot of young wrestlers, and I think we’re very successful here and we’re doing very well here.

“There should be a Ring of Honor, and I think I’ve got the resources to present a better version than anybody else can.”

It’ll be interesting to see how Khan plans to run ROH. Reading through the tea leaves, one might assume that Ring of Honor will become sort of a developmental system for AEW. Especially when Khan talked about the brand having “young wrestlers.”

SEScoops will keep you posted in the coming weeks and months on Tony Khan’s vision for ROH.

  • CM Punk Breaks Down In Tears Discussing Tony Khan’s Purchase Of ROH

CM Punk Breaks Down In Tears Discussing Tony Khan’s Purchase Of ROH

CM Punk was feeling quite emotional in the aftermath of Tony Khan purchasing AEW and his entrance at Revolution.

Back in Oct. 2021, ROH shocked the wrestling world by announcing a “reconceptualizing” period. The company released all of its talent and planned on resuming operations in the spring of 2022.

Little did anyone know, the company would be purchased by AEW’s head honcho. On the March 2 episode of Dynamite, Tony Khan announced that he is now the new owner of Ring of Honor.

    CM Punk Gets Emotional

Longtime CM Punk fans got a pleasant surprise when he walked out to his old ROH theme song for his dog collar match with MJF at Revolution. Punk even donned his ROH gear.

    https://twitter.com/AEW/status/1500661549148643328

During the AEW Revolution post-event presser, CM Punk talked about the significance of Tony Khan purchasing ROH and things got emotional.

“I mean it was pretty important. I loved ROH so much, you know? I can’t explain how happy I am that my footage is in good hands.

“It’s just good to know that it’s in the hands of somebody who will treat it well. I literally feel like my baby is in somebody’s hands that I know will raise the child the right way and do good things with it.

“It won’t get made into just some tab on a sh*tty, confusing app that’s hard to navigate and the boys don’t get paid anything off it, you know what I mean?”

Punk wrestled for ROH from 2002 through 2006. He is a former ROH World Champion and won the tag team titles twice under the promotion. Punk is a 2022 inductee in the ROH Hall of Fame.

  • ROH Statement On Acquisition By Tony Khan

ROH Statement On Acquisition By Tony Khan

ROH has sent out a statement in response to being acquired by AEW President Tony Khan.

On the March 2 episode of AEW Dynamite, Tony Khan announced that he purchased Ring of Honor from Sinclair Broadcast Group. In a statement released by AEW, they gushed over the promotion’s video library.

    ROH Speaks On Acquisition

Here is ROH’s statement in full:

“An agreement has been reached for All Elite Wrestling CEO Tony Khan to acquire the assets of Ring of Honor Wrestling Entertainment, LLC from Sinclair Broadcast Group.

“Khan made the announcement during Wednesday night’s episode of AEW: Dynamite on TBS.

“’Ring of Honor’s influence on modern professional wrestling is etched permanently in the history books, and this acquisition ensures that its legacy will be kept alive and treated with the utmost respect,’ Khan said.

“ROH COO Joe Koff said: ‘Ring of Honor has produced some of the best professional wrestlers over the past 20 years, but more importantly, it created a family. I will be forever grateful to everyone in the ROH family who has worked tirelessly for the past two decades to take ROH to levels previously unimagined. Tony has the utmost appreciation and respect for Ring of Honor, and I’m truly excited to see how he continues the legacy.’

“ROH was founded in 2002 by a Philadelphia-based pro wrestling video production company and has gone on to become one of the most influential promotions in the industry.

“Emphasizing unparallelled in-ring action and athleticism, ROH initially catered to a niche audience of disenfranchised hardcore wrestling fans, recording live events in Philadelphia and a few other cities in the Northeast and selling them on DVD and VHS.

“From those humble beginnings, ROH steadily grew into a global brand that launched the careers of a number of top stars, including CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, Samoa Joe, the Briscoes, Seth Rollins and Kevin Owens.

“In 2011, SBG acquired ROH from Cary Silkin, who had been ROH’s sole owner since 2004. Under SBG’s ownership, ROH became the only wrestling company in the U.S. with a major, multi-market presence on broadcast TV.

“The next chapter in ROH’s storied history will now be written by Khan, who described himself as ‘a huge fan of Ring of Honor’ when he made the announcement on Dynamite.

“’This deal adds thousands of hours of content to our rapidly growing library and creates new opportunities to expand our footprint on national and global scale, while having the potential to produce new content under the ROH banner,’ Khan said.”

There has been plenty of speculation regarding AEW’s plans for the Ring of Honor brand. We’ve already seen a report from Cassidy Haynes of Bodyslam.net that ROH will be used as a “developmental territory of sort.”

  • WWE Was In Talks To Buy ROH, But Tony Khan Closed The Deal

WWE Was In Talks To Buy ROH, But Tony Khan Closed The Deal

WWE and AEW were both offered the chance to purchase Ring of Honor, but it was AEW President Tony Khan who did what was necessary to secure the deal.

Khan has been hyping an industry-changing announcement and delivered the news at the start of this week’s AEW Dynamite. The purchase includes the complete ROH video library, as well as the brand’s assets and intellectual property.

Tony Khan now has the ability to shop around both the AEW and ROH libraries to a streaming service, which could land him (and AEW) a huge influx of revenue in the years ahead. It also gives AEW a secondary brand where they can send young and underutilized talent (think NXT to WWE).

Dave Meltzer addressed Tony Khan’s purchase of ROH on Wrestling Observer Radio. According to Meltzer, both WWE and AEW were contacted about buying the company.

“Both WWE and AEW were contacted when the idea was to sell the company and AEW was the one that, obviously, made the better offer of the two and got the company,” said Meltzer.

    Valuable Tape Library

Khan now owns 20 years of footage from ROH, including tapes featuring CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, The Young Bucks, Kenny Omega and many more.

“The tape library is very valuable to AEW because they want to do some sort of a streaming service,” Meltzer continued. “Whether they sell something to HBO Max or they do their own streaming service in some form. That amount of library with a lot of wrestlers, including, one of the keys to that library is Ring of Honor owned the All In show which is an important part of the history of AEW.”

    WWE’s Interest in Buying ROH

This is not the first time that WWE considered purchasing Ring of Honor. A few years ago, around 2018, Triple H (Paul Levesque) wanted to buy Ring of Honor for the same reasons that Tony Khan ultimately did. There were talks and WWE made a pitch, but the deal fell apart.

“From what I gather, Vince wanted to buy somebody bigger, not realizing that the ‘bigger’ which was New Japan Pro Wrestling, he couldn’t buy,” Meltzer added. “WWE tried to buy New Japan. They tried to buy Stardom. They tried to buy NOAH. They tried to buy AAA. Nobody would sell to them from foreign countries for the price that they were willing to pay, so none of these deals ever got going, but this is one, obviously, that was in play, and you know, whatever.”

Ring of Honor’s most recent show was December’s ROH Final Battle 2022 pay-per-view. The company ‘went dark’ after that to restructure and evaluate the company’s future operations. In recent weeks, ROH has announced the inductees for the company’s inaugural Hall of Fame Class, including The Briscoe Brothers, CM Punk, Bryan Danielson and Samoa Joe.

The next ROH show, Supercard of Honor XV, is scheduled to take place during WrestleMania 38 weekend in the Dallas, TX metro area. More information on that show below:

Tony Khan has purchased Ring of Honor, including the company’s video library, brand assets and intellectual property.

This development is a game-changer and has widespread ramifications for the industry, including the operations of AEW and ROH. It also puts AEW in a stronger position to eventually secure a lucrative streaming deal that leverages both the AEW and ROH content libraries.

We’ve rounded up some reactions from people in the industry:

Gabe Sapolsky: “Here’s how Ring Of Honor started. It was announced as a monthly indie in a mail order catalog for a video company. I never dreamed that 20 years later it would be featured on a prominent, red hot wrestling show on TBS. I’m very happy that so many more will now enjoy the legacy of ROH and that it will continue to blaze a path in the world of pro wrestling. Congratulations to Tony Khan on becoming the new owner. I normally give a pro tip in my IG posts. All I’ll say here is to never limit yourself and anything is possible in life. It means so much to me that this little indie darling from 2002 will forge forward in 2022 and continue to build community while bringing entertainment to the fans.”

Deonna Purrazzo Wants to Defend ROH Title Everywhere

Ring of Honor World Women’s Champion Deonna Purrazzo wants to be a fighting champion.

Sporting News Daniel Yanofsky interviewed Purrazzo about becoming the ROH World Women’s Champion and her plans. She defeated Rok-C to win the title on the January 13th Impact Wrestling episode. Although ROH is on hiatus, the company has allowed there champions to defend the title for different wrestling promotions.

Yanofsky transcribed the following quotes. He asked Purrazzo if she’d try to represent ROH elsewhere as a champion like ROH World Champion Jonathan Gresham.

“Absolutely, especially with the unprecedented times, they are in. It’s interesting to have Jonathan Gresham wrestling on Impact, fighting Steve Maclin in a Pure Rules championship match. I love that Ring of Honor is represented, whether on Impact Wrestling, an independent show, wherever it is. It is a brand that means a lot to me personally from my time there,” said Purrazzo. She explained, “It helped develop who Deonna Purrazzo, “The Virtuosa,” was going to be as a wrestler. Now that I have the championship, I don’t know if I will be defending it under Pure Rules, but it does mean the world to me to be the ROH Women’s World Champion. I want to defend it and carry on the ROH brand wherever and however I can.”

    What’s Next for ROH

ROH announced on January 20th that they would return with Supercard of Honor on April 1st. They revealed a unification title match for the ROH World Championship between Bandido and Gresham. However, the company doesn’t plan to sign talent to exclusive contracts. Instead, they will act like other independent promotions and get wrestlers to work dates. It’s unclear if the Bandido vs. Gresham match winner will defend the championship for different promotions.

Impact Wrestling doesn’t have an event scheduled for April 1st, and Purrazzo could appear for ROH’s return event. Although, ROH would have to figure out whom she would defend the title against now that they don’t have signed talent.

ROH Undisputed World Championship Match Announced for SuperCard of Honor

Ring of Honor has announced its first match for the ROH Supercard of Honor event on April 1.

Since going on hiatus, ROH Supercard of Honor will be the company’s first event back. After releasing all of its wrestlers last year, ROH planned to revamp its business strategy. To promote their ROH Supercard of Honor event, the company also revealed that Jonathan Gresham would challenge Bandido to decide the undisputed ROH World Champion.

The Undisputed ROH World Championship Situation

ROH has found itself in an intriguing situation with Gresham and Bandido. The company wanted Gresham to challenge Bandido for the ROH World Championship at Final Battle on December 11, 2021. However, Bandido had tested positive for Covid-19, and ROH had Gresham challenge Jay Lethal for the ROH World Championship. After winning the title, ROH allowed Gresham to defend the title for other promotions like Impact Wrestling and Game Changer Wrestling.

Bandido returned to successfully defend his ROH World Championship at Terminus against Baron Black on January 16. At the same event, Gresham also retained his title against Josh Alexander. After the match, Bandido confronted Gresham to tease a unification match.

It’s unclear what ROH plans to do with the ROH World Championship after the ROH Supercard of Honor event. The company plans to book talent for appearances instead of signing exclusive deals. Regardless, Gresham vs. Bandido is an intriguing match that ROH hopes can excite wrestling fans to watch their upcoming event.

Jonathan Gresham vs Santana Announced For 2nd Terminus Show

Last night in Atlanta, the first-ever Terminus event produced by Jonathan Gresham and Baron Black took place. In the main-event, Gresham defended the ROH World Championship against Impact’s Josh Alexander. The finish of the match saw a double-pin take place.

Gresham and Bandido then went face-to-face. Bandido had held the ROH World Championship before being unable to appear at the promotion’s Final Battle PPV last month. Santana then interrupted both of them and challenged Gresham to a match at Terminus’ 2nd show which will take place on February 24th.

Bandido vs Gresham could possibly take place at ROH’s recently announced show on April 1st.

Gresham has one scheduled defense of the ROH title before then, however. He’ll face Blake Christian at the “WRLD on GCW” show for Game Changer Wrestling next Sunday from the Hammerstein Ballroom.

New Ring of Honor Champion Crowned on Impact Wrestling

Deonna Purrazzo has become a double champion once again on last night’s Impact Wrestling.

“The Virtuosa” who is also the AAA Reina de Reinas Champion, faced Ring of Honor Women’s World Champion Rok-C. The match was a title vs. title match, with Purrazzo putting her Reina de Reinas Championship on the line against Rok-C.

The match was impressive and physical, and it ended when Deonna Purrazzo forced Rok-C to submit by applying the Venus de Milo armbar. Purrazzo had just participated in a Texas Death Match at Hard To Kill, where her opponent, Mickie James, defeated her. Purrazzo still performed impressively on Impact Wrestling after the brutal match.

Purrazzo’s after-match celebrations didn’t last long as Maria Kanellis along with a group of other ROH talent confronted her. Kanellis let the new champion know that she will take her titles. Help arrived from Impact but the ROH talent laid waste to them as Purrazzo got out of the ring as the battle began.

Deonna Purrazzo is a two-time Impact Knockouts Champion, however, this is her first ROH title reign. She dropped the Knockouts title to Mickie James at Bound for Glory in October and as previously mentioned, was unsuccessful in winning it back at Hard To Kill on Saturday.

Rok-C held the title for 119 days after winning it in a 15-woman single-elimination tournament Death Before Dishonor XVIII to become the inaugural champion.

Details On What’s Next for ROH Women’s Champion Rok-C

Rok-C is one of the top prospects in all of women’s wrestling. At 20 years old, she has already won championships and drawn attention from the industry’s top promotions.

Rok-C is the Ring of Honor Women’s Champion. She was just named the ROH Women’s Wrestler of the Year. However, is not expected to be affiliated with the company for much longer. Warning: Spoilers ahead.

Following an appearance at Saturday’s Impact Hard to Kill pay-per-view, she dropped the ROH women’s title to Deonna Purrazzo the following night at Impact’s latest round of TV tapings. This got people questioning what’s next for the Laredo, Texas native.

On the latest Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez commented on Rok-C’s future. “I was told that, not 100% she’s going anywhere, but they [ROH] are expecting that she’s probably going to end up going somewhere. Therefore, she’s no longer champion,” said Alvarez.

Last weekend, she competed for New Texas Pro Wrestling and received a big sendoff from the fans of her hometown promotion. This typically indicates a wrestler is moving on to the next chapter of their career.

    What’s next for Rok-C?

Rok-C recently had a WWE tryout at the Performance Center in Orlando.

She’ll debut for MLW later this month at Blood & Thunder on January 21st from Dallas, Texas. After that, she could go anywhere.

This is completely speculative, but what better way to make a splash in WWE than to appear in the Women’s Royal Rumble match just one week later? Rok-C is talented beyond her years and would fit in perfectly at NXT 2.0.

Impact Wrestling held its latest round of television tapings on Sunday night from Dallas, TX at the The Factory at Deep Ellum. Charlie Haas made his Impact debut, but it did not go well.

The former WWE tag team champion interrupted a promo from Josh Alexander, who was staking his claim as #1 contender to Moose’s Impact World Championship.

Haas and Alexander fought later in the night, with Alexander getting the win. Unfortunately, Haas was injured during the match.

    Charlie Haas Injured

After the match, the group of ROH wrestlers who appeared at Hard to Kill jumped both men. They were eventually run off by Chris Sabin, Rich Swann, Willie Mack, Heath, Rhino and Eddie Edwards.

During the post-match angle, Charlie Haas exited the ring, crawled under the ring, was tended to by Impact Wrestling officials. He was eventually stretchered away.

Ring of Honor in Impact Wrestling

Ring of Honor had a strong presence at the Impact tapings.

Jonathan Gresham defended the ROH World Championship against Steve Maclin during the tapings.

Impact star Deonna Purrazzo defeated Rok-C to capture the ROH Women’s Championship. Ian Riccaboni and Matthew Rehwoldt were on commentary.

The ROH group comprised of Matt Taven, Maria Kannellis and Mike Bennett, PCO and Vincent is now known as Honor No More.

Impact Wrestling’s next tapings will be held on January 21st and 22nd from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida at the Charles Dodge Center.

ROH Stars Invade IMPACT Hard To Kill

Ring of Honor stars Mike and Maria Bennett, Matt Taven, Vincent and PCO made their presence felt at the IMPACT Wrestling Hard To Kill.

The group appeared following the Hardcore War match on the PPV, attacking the team of Heath, Rich Swann, Willie Mack, Rhino and Eddie Edwards. Heath had just won the match after Rhino hit a Gore on Karl Anderson.

The commentators referred to the situation as an invasion during the PPV broadcast, and it looks as though IMPACT will be running with somewhat of an invasion angle going forward.

Scott D’Amore was seen backstage in a segment following the attack, and he said that he would be “calling Baltimore to figure out what the hell is going on.”

When the broadcast came back to commentary, the duo questioned if Ring of Honor “sanctioned” the attack, so this might play into the storyline going forward.

ROH is currently on hiatus until April, so this could be part of the plan to keep the brand in fans’ minds ahead of the return date.

Ring of Honor Champion Jonathan Gresham successfully defended his title at the IMPACT Wrestling Hard To Kill PPV event.

Gresham faced TNA/IMPACT and ROH legend Chris Sabin on the card, and both men put in a fantastic hard-hitting performance.

The ROH Champion will now be heading to the TERMINUS event to defend his title against another IMPACT Wrestling star, Josh Alexander.

Should Gresham be successful there too, he will likely be defending the title in the UK as part of the February 6th card for PROGRESS Wrestling.

Bully Ray: D-Von Felt Ring Of Honor Was Beneath Him

Bully Ray has looked back on the time D-Von felt he was above a run in ROH.

Bully and D-Von were a legendary tag team as The Dudley Boyz. They made their mark in ECW, WWE, and TNA Wrestling. Eventually, the team split apart and Bully found himself going solo in ROH.

Bully Ray Claims D-Von Wasn’t Sold On ROH

During an episode of SiriusXM’s Busted Open Radio, Bully Ray made quite the claim that D-Von felt ROH was beneath him.

“I’ll never forget the first day I was there. They asked me, ‘Hey man, what do you wanna do?’ I said, ‘I wanna work with The Briscoes.’

“That was the big deal for me, I wanted to work with The Briscoes. Me and D-Von when we had left the WWE for the second time actually had a deal in place from Ring of Honor to work with The Briscoes.

“It was supposed to be The Dudleyz vs. The Briscoes. D-Von felt that Ring of Honor was beneath him. I completely disagreed so we never got Dudleyz vs. Briscoes.

“I went there and I made sure I got to do something with them because I had a lot of respect for those two guys.”

Bully ended up winning the ROH World Six-Man Tag Team Championship with Jay and Mark Briscoe. The Briscoes are heavily rumored to be making their way to AEW soon. The team has already been feuding with FTR.

  • Kevin Owens Explains Why WWE Didn’t Send Videos for ROH Final Battle

Kevin Owens Explains Why WWE Didn’t Send Videos for ROH Final Battle

Kevin Owen says WWE has a good reason for not sending any tribute videos to ROH Final Battle. According to Owens, they never asked.

Les Anti-Pods de la Lutte’s Patric Laprade and Kevin Raphael spoke with Owens about ROH. When asked why no one from WWE did promos for ROH Final Battle, he replied that ROH didn’t ask WWE. Unlike WWE talent, former ROH wrestlers in All Elite Wrestling and Impact Wrestling sent in videos thanking the promotion during ROH Final Battle.

Laprade transcribed the interview from French to English. He shared the transcription with SEScoops.

“The answer is quite simple: Ring of Honor didn’t ask any wrestlers from WWE to do that, nor contacted anyone at WWE. I knew it was going to be their last show, but I didn’t think to send a video so they could play it at the show. I’ve watched it. I was at a WWE show, and I was watching it on my phone, so it was not something I simply ignored. I’ve read some people on the Internet saying that probably WWE didn’t let us do it, but that’s incorrect. It’s just ROH who didn’t ask us, and I bet that if they had, we could have done it, but that wasn’t the case,” said Owens.

End of an Era for ROH

ROH Final Battle took place on December 11. The event marked the end of the current format of the wrestling promotion, as they are looking not to sign talent exclusively. ROH will book independent wrestlers to appear for them per event. However, it is unclear how they will book talent for events or ROH TV episodes. ROH also plans not to do any shows until April 2022.

Kevin Owens on How ROH Impacted his Career

After explaining why he didn’t send a tribute video to ROH, he shared why the promotion helped his career. While he appreciates his time in ROH, he’s unsure if he needed ROH to get into WWE. He also credits his time in Pro Wrestling Guerilla for growing his popularity.

“It’s funny cause I often ask myself that same question. Of course, it gave me a very important platform in the United States. But at the end of the day, William Regal saw me at a PWG show. And even before I started full-time with ROH in 2007, I had a good name on the indies because of PWG. So sometimes I wonder if things would have not become what they became with ROH if I would have made it to WWE anyway. Maybe, maybe not, I don’t know,” said Owens. He also admits that he once thought he’d stay with ROH for his entire career.

While he’s unsure if ROH helped his popularity, he does credit ROH for helping change his priorities. “…However, with time, my priorities changed a little, my family’s priorities changed a little, and that’s when WWE became my goal again. So ROH was a big influence and a huge part of my career, but I often wonder if ROH would have not been part of my career if I would have made it to WWE anyway. A huge part of me thinks so. That said, I have plenty of good and fun memories with ROH, and I’m very happy to have been apart of ROH for all those years,” said Owens.

ROH is planning not to do any shows until April 2022. For ROH fans, the hope is that the promotion will have a successful fresh start.

ROH Women’s Champion Rok-C Takes Part In WWE Tryouts

The current ROH women’s champion Carla Gonzalez better known by her ring name Rok-C took part in the latest WWE tryouts from the Performance Center.

The company held its latest tryout from the PC in Orlando, Florida from December 15 to 17. They later shared some photographs from the tryouts on their official website.

One of the more interesting names to have been spotted in the photos was Rok-C, who has become a free agent after the mass layoff from ROH.

ROH released all of its contracted talents in October and made the announcement of going dark for the first quarter of 2022 to reimagine the company.

Rok-C Has Been Trained By Booker T

Rok-C, who was trained by WWE Hall Of Famer Booker T made her ROH debut in April this year. Prior to it, she had been working for T’s Reality Of Wrestling promotion.

The female star quickly rose to the top of the ladder within the company. She competed in a tournament and defeated Miranda Alize in the finals at September’s Death Before Dishonor PPV to win the ROH women’s championship.

There is no word yet on how WWE officials feel about the current ROH champion. It will be interesting to see if she is offered a contract by the promotion.

ROH’s Joe Koff: We Never Used the Words “Shutting Down”

In late October, Ring of Honor announced that the promotion would be going on hiatus following Final Battle. They also noted they planned to return in April of 2022. It was further revealed that the company would no longer be using contracted talent moving forward. Some fans took this to mean ROH was shutting down. ROH COO Joe Koff recently appeared on the ROH Strong podcast to refute this.

“What seeped into the narrative … is that we were shutting down, when all we announced is that we were not doing any live events in the first quarter,” Koff said.  “We never used the words ‘shutting down.’”

According to a report from PW Insider, a venue for a Ring of Honor show in April during WrestleMania week in Dallas has been booked and paid for. It’s not clear what date the show will run or what venue has been booked, however.

    https://twitter.com/ringofhonor/status/1470876441067798535

With ROH returning in April but running with no contracted talent, they are likely looking at booking wrestlers much like independent promotions do, using whoever happens to be available on the date with no exclusive contracts. The ROH Championship titles are currently held by Jonathan Gresham (ROH World), The Briscoes (Tag-team), Rok-C (World women’s title) and Josh Woods (Pure).
