  • John Cena At NASCAR’s Daytona 500 (Press Release)

    WWE issued the following press release about John Cena serving as the honorary starter for the Daytona 500. The event takes place on February 26th, with Cena set to drop the green flag:

    WWE Superstar John Cena Serves As Honorary Starter For The 54th Annual Daytona 500

    DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – WWE Superstar John Cena will wave the green flag as Honorary Starter of the 54th annual Daytona 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race on Sunday, Feb. 26 at historic Daytona International Speedway (FOX, 1 p.m. ET).

    Cena was invited to participate in this year’s big race by 2011 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series runner-up Carl Edwards last night on WWE’s Monday Night Raw®. Edwards got out of his official No. 99 Fastenal Ford and told Cena, “NASCAR asked me to come to Monday Night Raw and personally invite you to drop the green flag and officially start the Daytona 500 on February 26.” An appreciative John Cena enthusiastically accepted with an emphatic “Yes!”

    “John Cena is the greatest Superstar in WWE today,” Daytona International Speedway President Joie Chitwood III said. “We look forward to seeing him on the flag stand waving the green flag to start ‘The Great American Race’ and kick off the new NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.”

    Cena, who made his WWE debut in 2002, is a ten-time World Champion. He can be seen each week on the hit cable series Monday Night Raw on USA Network. The avid NASCAR fan will headline WrestleMania against The Rock® at Sun Life Stadium in Miami on Sunday, April 1, 2012.

    Cena’s success has led to starring roles in various Hollywood films. He recently starred in The Reunion from WWE Studios and alongside Patricia Clarkson and Danny Glover in the family drama Legendary. His first theatrical film was the 2006 action-thriller The Marine from Twentieth Century Fox. Always a fan favorite with kids, Cena played himself in Nickelodeon’s popular teen comedies Fred: The Movie and Fred 2: Night of the Living Fred. A popular talk show guest, Cena has appeared on The Today Show, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, The Talk and many more.

    Cena, like many NASCAR drivers, has a long standing relationship with the Make-A-Wish Foundation. He is on pace to grant his 300th wish, making him the first celebrity wish granter ever to reach that lofty goal. The Make-A-Wish Foundation recently dedicated a room to WWE at the foundation’s headquarters in Phoenix, AZ, in honor of Cena’s unwavering dedication to children with life-threatening medical conditions.

  • Update On Evan Bourne’s Status, Madusa Taunts Beth Phoenix

    — SmackDown ring announcer Lilian Garcia’s husband Chris Jozeph stated during last week’s AfterBuzzTV.com post-show for Raw that Evan Bourne had entered a rehab facility when the topic of tag team partner Kofi Kingston’s match against The Miz was discussed. Jozeph stated on tonight’s show that he was misinformed as Bourne did not actually enter rehab. He attributed the misinformation to “dirt sheets” and apologized for the error.

    Bourne, whose real name is Matthew Korklan, is currently serving a sixty-day suspension for his second violation of WWE’s Talent Wellness Program.

    — Madusa, who has said that she would like to defend the WWF Women’s Championship she unceremoniously trashed during a 1995 episode of WCW Monday Nitro against Beth Phoenix, continues to berate “The Glamazon” through Twitter. The women’s wrestling legend insists that Beth “fight like a champ” if they meet.

    Madusa wrote, “Bite me, pull my hair, whip me w/ the strap but make damn sure @TheBethPhoenix u fight like a champ and not a pussy diva!!”

  • Chamber Match Set, Cena Jabs The Rock, Brodus Clay

    – John Cena vs. Kane in an Ambulance Match for the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view was announced on RAW by John Laurinaitis.

    – As a result of winning the 6-man main event of RAW, Chris Jericho will be the last man to enter the RAW brand’s Elimination Chamber match.

    – John Cena wrote the following regarding The Rock’s WrestleMania 28 hype video:

    “Saw rock’s video. Especially liked the quote “when I left WWE…” Something u will never hear me say. WM28 I WILL NOT LOSE! #teamfilmit”

    – Brodus clay was absent from RAW, but did wrestle a dark match against FCW star Damien Sandow.

    Clay’s squash match over Heath Slater and post-match beatdown on Drew McIntyre was edited off Friday’s SmackDown broadcast.

  • Eve Suffers Broken Nose On Raw, Diva Added To FCW Roster

    — Eve Torres was rushed to the backstage area immediately after she tagged out of the ring during the Eight Divas Tag Team Match on tonight’s Raw SuperShow. Torres was hit hard by a Beth Phoenix clothesline. She was severely bleeding from her nose and it is said that she suffered a broken nose.

    — The official website of Florida Championship Wrestling has added Summer Rae to their Divas roster page. Summer Raw is Danielle Moinet, a 28-year-old model and former American football player who played with the Chicago Bliss of the Lingerie Football League. Since debuting in the developmental promotion late last year, she has been trying to assume Maxine’s position as General Manager of FCW.

    — Shawn Michaels stated the following on Twitter Monday: “FYI, I’ll be signing at the Big Game Forever booth (booth 140) Hunting Expo in Salt Lake City, on Saturday Feb. 11, at 10:00am.”

  • WWE To Make Decision On Laurinaitis, Morrison Heading To Qatar

    — Michael Cole announced tonight on the Raw SuperShow that WWE’s Board of Directors will render a decision on the future of John Laurinaitis’ position as Interim Raw General Manager on Tuesday morning. The decision will be announced on WWE.com at 10:00 a.m. EST.

    — John Morrison will be heading to the Middle East in April to wrestle, according to his booking agency, The I.P.A. Network. He will be wrestling for Qatar Pro Wrestling on April 26-28, 2012.

    — Torrie Wilson is scheduled to appear at Collectormania on April 15, 2012 from noon to 2:00 p.m. The event is located at 59 Syracuse State Fairgrounds Syracuse, New York.

  • Matches Taped For WWE Superstars, Clay Works Dark Match

    — Matches taped tonight at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma for this week’s episode of WWE Superstars are as follows:

    * WWE Tag Team Champions Epico and Primo vs. JTG and Michael McGillicutty

    — Brodus Clay squashed WWE developmental wrestler Damien Sandow in a dark match at tonight’s Raw SuperShow taping in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sandow was accompanied by Abraham Washington, who introduced him to the audience prior to the bout.

    — A photo of Sheamus performing the High Cross on Chris Jericho at last week’s Royal Rumble is featured on the cover of the latest issue of Super Luchas.

  • Owens Says WWE Dropped The Ball, Latest Graduates From FCW

    — It was reported Friday that the official website of WWE developmental promotion Florida Championship Wrestling had removed Calvin Raines, Leroy Parks, Marcus Owens and Peter Orlov from their roster page. Owens, whose real name is Jay Nobles, confirmed on Facebook that he was released by WWE on Friday. He vows to show that WWE made a mistake in letting him go.

    “I will now travel the world and show them that they totally dropped the ball!” he wrote Monday on his Facebook fan page.

    He continued, “I just wanna say to everyone following me that this journey is not over. Sometimes you have to take a step back and analyze what is really important in order to be happy. Happiness is not determined by how much money you make but, what you truly enjoy!”

    — Aksana, Derrick Bateman, Kaitlyn, Percy Watson and Titus O’Neil have been removed from the roster page of the official website of Florida Championship Wrestling. All five talents continued to appear for the developmental league after their promotion the main roster.

  • Former WCW Champion To Be Inducted Into WWE Hall of Fame

    Former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Ron Simmons is slated to be inducted into this year’s WWE Hall of Fame class in Miami, Florida. It has not been disclosed when the official announcement will be made.

    Among his many accomplishments, Simmons held the WWE World Tag Team Championship three times with Bradshaw, the WCW World Tag Team Championship with Butch Reed as Doom and the WCW United States Tag Team Championship with Big Josh. However, his greatest achievement occurred on August 2, 1992, when Simmons became the first officially recognized African-American singles World Champion, defeating Big Van Vader for the WCW World Championship.

    Other elite Superstars scheduled for induction on March 31, 2012 are Edge, The Four Horsemen (Arn Anderson, Ric Flair, Barry Windham, Tully Blanchard and JJ Dillon), Mil Mascaras and Mike Tyson.

  • NASCAR Announcement On RAW, Punk’s Heroic Move & More

    – Friday’s SmackDown drew a 2.19 cable rating with 3,194,000 viewers, on par with what the show has been doing in recent weeks.

    – WWE Champion CM Punk made a classy move over the weekend at a live WWE event from Wichita, Kansas. Prior to his match with Dolph Ziggler, Punk tried throwing his t-shirt at a kid in the front row, but a man grabbed the shirt away from the kid and walked back to his seat with it. Punk was visibly pissed off by the man taking the shirt meant for a child, so Punk left the ring, walked across the arena to the merchandise tables and grabbed a new shirt to deliver personally to the young fan.

    – Tonight’s WWE RAW Supershow will feature a big announcement regarding NASCAR.

  • Colt Cabana Takes Shot At WWE Online Show, HOFer Hospitalized

    — Colt Cabana, who hosts the Art of Wrestling podcast, took a potshot at WWE over the company’s newly launched Are You Serious? YouTube series. In the series, Road Dogg and Josh Mathews “are forced to watch some of the most appalling, unpleasant and dreadful clips found in the WWE video library.”

    “Can’t wait to see Josh Mathews and Road Dogg host WWE’s newest show ‘The Art of Sports Entertainment Podcast,” tweeted Cabana.

    — WrestlingFigs.com reports WWE Hall of Famer Superstar Billy Graham was hospitalized Sunday morning for pneumonia and leg infection.

  • Batista Appearing In Film With Vin Diesel, WWE Classics Update

    — Former WWE performer Dave Bautista (a/k/a Batista) is listed as a cast member in the third installment of the Riddick film series. The movie also stars Vin Diesel, Karl Urban, Jordi Mollà, Matt Nable and Katee Sackhoff.

    The film was delayed at one point due to financial issues but Universal Studios announced that principal photography has begun. More details on the film are available here.

    — WWE has released the synopsis for next month’s slate of programming on WWE Classics On Demand: “It’s “March Mania” all month on WWE Classics On Demand with classic shows geared towards getting the WWE Universe excited for this year’s WrestleMania.”

    — Former WWE Diva Torrie Wilson was spotted with Alex Rodriguez at Saturday’s UFC 143 event in Las Vegas, Nevada.

  • Maryse Talks About WWE’s Divas Division, Her Persona & More

    Former WWE Diva Maryse spoke with Wrestling 101 recently about her time with WWE. Here are some highlights of what Maryse said about:

    Signing with WWE: “I could only speak 10 words of English at the time, however, WWE management told me that I had such an exceptional presentation in French, haha! They loved it…”

    State of the Divas division: “There is a lot of potential right now in the Womens Division, but a lack of investment from the management! They deserve better.”

    Her Persona: “I developed a heel persona and everything about Maryse was presentation, facials, gestures. I believe that Maryse’s persona was the best female persona in years within the WWE.”

  • Bobby Roode Responds To The Rock Putting Him Over

    TNA Champion Bobby Roode has responded to The Rock endorsing him on Twitter over the weekend.

    The Rock tweeted on Saturday:

    “@REALBobbyRoode I dig your work. Keep movin’ the crowd and kicking that ass. (tell Bubba his calves still aren’t as big as mine)”

    Roode responded with the following:

    WWE’s relaunched YouTube channel has posted the debut episode of a new show featuring BG James and Josh Matthews titled, “Are You Serious?” The show features the hosts looking at wacky moments in WWE history.

  • RAW Preview For Tonight, Jericho & Punk’s Feud Continues

    – The Chris Jericho vs. CM Punk storyline continued at Saturday’s RAW live event in Wichita, Kansas, another sign that the two are headed for a showdown at WrestleMania 28.

    Jericho appeared during the Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler match and tried to cost Punk the match twice, nailing him with a Codebreaker when the referee was laid out.

    – Tonight’s WWE RAW Supershow takes place from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma from the Chesapeake Energy Arena.

    Following his return to WWE television last week, we can confirm that Triple H is scheduled for tonight.

    Matches advertised locally for tonight are John Cena vs. Kane and WWE Champion CM Punk vs. Dolph Ziggler.

    Oklahoma native Jim Ross appeared the “Oklahoma Ford Sports Blitz” radio show last night after the Super Bowl to promote tonight’s RAW. Ross was still sporting his gray goatee, so if he does appear on RAW tonight it will be with the new look.

  • Shaq Update, HBK On RAW This Month, Booker T-Khali

    – NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal  is still expected to wrestle the Big Show at WrestleMania 28. WWE is planning to hold a press conference in Miami to announce Shaq’s involvement at WrestleMania and Shaq is scheduled to appear on WWE television shortly after Elimination Chamber.

    – WWE Hall of Famer Shawn Michaels is scheduled to make an appearance at the February 13th RAW Super show from San Diego, CA. HBK has been rumored to be the special guest referee for the Triple H vs. Undertaker match at WrestleMania.

    – Booker T was back in action this weekend at the SmackDown live event from Spokane, Washington. He lost to Cody Rhodes, but Hornswoggle helped him get revenge after the match. Booker T and Hornswoggle did spin-a-roonie’s to celebrate.

    – The Great Khali also returned to live event action at the SmackDown show from Spokane, defeating Jinder Mahal.

  • Mark Henry Update, Heyman & JR Joke About Vince & More

    — To update the status of Mark Henry on SmackDown, he has been “suspended indefinitely” after putting his hands on Teddy Long during last week’s show. The suspension is being used to allow Henry time off to deal with various injuries and rest up in time for WrestleMania 28.

    – During Saturday night’s UFC 143 pay-per-view, Paul Heyman tweeted to Jim Ross and mentioned Vince McMahon’s dislike for the word “belt” when referring to championship titles. Jim Ross responded with “LOL” to Heyman’s comment:

    “@JRsBBQ Can you imagine Vince sitting at home watching #UFC143, losing his mind everytime some1 says “BELT””

    – Several fans who watched Sunday night’s NFL SuperBowl game noted that the New York Giants came out to the song “Written In The Stars,” which was the theme song to WrestleMania 27.

    – During the half time of the SuperBowl, MTV2 featured the annual Lingerie Football League’s Lingerie Bowl.

    The Los Angeles Temptation defeated the Philadelphia Passion – and the Temptation’s quarterback Ashley Salerno was awarded with a replica Attitude-era WWE Championship belt. The belt had their team logo over the WWF logo.

    – Speaking of the Lingerie Bowl, several past and present wrestling divas have participated in the event. TNA’s Christy Hemme was in the 2nd and 4th Lingerie Bowl, former WWE Diva Joy Giovanni was in the 2nd and 3rd Lingerie Bowl games, while FCW Diva Summer Rae (Danielle Moinet) played for Chicago in the LFL from 2008-2011.

  • The Miz Talks About Getting Into Acting, His Character

    During an interview with GulfNews.com, WWE star The Miz says he will be the latest pro wrestler to cross over into Hollywood and plans to appear in a movie this summer. When asked if he’s interested in making movies fulltime, The Miz said:

    “I did a movie. I just filmed a cameo in a movie that will be coming out in August. So definitely look out for that, because I’m amazing in it. I’m a method actor. I’m like Christian Bale and Daniel Day Lewis all wrapped into one. I really feel my characters, I really get into it.”

    He also talked about the difference between his wrestling character and Mike Mizanin:

    “As you can see I’m The Miz right now but when I leave here, I just tone down into Mike. But you know, you always got to feel your character and really understand him and where he comes from. Just the art of acting, you got to understand these type of situations.”

  • Honky Tonk Man On WWE Hall of Fame, Legends’ House, More

    The Honky Tonk Man spoke to Off the Top Rope Radio last Wednesday on a variety of topics. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

    Declining WWE’s offer for WWE Hall of Fame enshrinement: “I turned down the WWE Hall of Fame because I was booked somewhere else and it’s the indies that put food on my table. They didn’t call until early March, it was just left too late.”

    Why he did not appear the “Old School” episode of Raw in 2010: “I nearly went back for the WWE Old School Raw, but I was booked on a 6:00 a.m. flight there and 6:00 a.m. flight back. I wouldn’t have even had time to check in the hotel.”

    WWE Legends’ House: “I’ve had no contact from WWE about the Legends House TV show.”

    Returning to WWE: “It’s as simple as this. I don’t want to be treated any better than anyone else (by WWE), but just as good and have a nice time.”

  • Sting Says He Almost Joined WWE, Wants To Face Undertaker

    Sting appeared on 97.9/105.5 KISS-FM on Thursday to promote Impact Wrestling at Wembley Stadium. Highlights from the interview are as follows:

    Which wrestler he’d like to face that he hasn’t yet: “I’d have to say the top one… Undertaker. I think wrestling fans have wanted to see Sting vs. Undertaker for years. I think between his gimmick and mine, it could be pretty cool. We could do some pretty cool stuff.”

    If he has any regrets over not joining WWE: “Yes and no. Who wouldn’t want to say that they’ve done at least one WrestleMania? I’m not going to lie to you, I wish I had done one of those. I’ve had great conversations with him [Vince McMahon] over the years and been real close on three or four different occasions. There was always a need met or desire of mine met with WCW or with TNA, so I stayed.”

    When was the last time he almost joined WWE: “Last year… we were very, very close.”

  • Madusa Continues Taunting Beth, Says She Will Take Her Title

    Madusa revealed last week that she remains in possession of the WWF Women’s Championship she unceremoniously trashed during a 1995 episode of WCW Monday Nitro and that she’d like to defend it against Beth Phoenix. The legendary women’s wrestler tweeted an image of herself wearing the belt with a challenge to Phoenix reading “Are u woman enough?”

    Madusa has continued taunting the WWE Divas Champion via Twitter. She wrote again to “The Glamazon,” “You will be the only one with mud on your face… And everyone laughing!”

    Phoenix responded, “Bring the hate. It fuels me. #divaschampionforever.”

    Madusa than vowed to take her Divas Championship.

    She wrote, “No hate…only love when I stomp that ass and take the diva title too! Let the schooling begin!”

  • Natalya Tells Her Fans To Not Worry; Does She Watch TNA?

    For the second consecutive week on SmackDown, WWE suggested that Natalya Neidhart had farted during a backstage segment. As Natalya and Beth Phoenix were warming up for their match against Aksana and Tamina, sound effects simulating farting were heard. Santino Marella then walked into the area and displayed an alarmed reaction to the foul scent.

    The angle has drawn the ire of many of the third generation wrestler’s fans on Twitter, who feel it’s doing her no favors. Natalya, however, thinks they should lighten up.

    “I love to respond to all of you and answer your q’s but some of your comments are Debbie Downer-esque! Settle the tea kettles would ya?!” she wrote.

    “What I’m trying to say to some of you is that life is too short to be so negative! So chin up, go for a jog or save a puppy! :)

    “To everyone who is positive- I’ve got nothing but love for you… Like Tupac said! And thank you from the bottom of my heart. Goodnight!”

    She then specifically responded to a message saying a lot of people are worried about the passing gas segments. She responded, “No one needs to worry about me:) except for the people at Louis Vuitton!”

    Meanwhile, Neidhart responded to a question asking whether she watches TNA Wrestling. She said, “I watch all wrestling! What do you expect from a Hart?!”

    — WWELiveTour.com is advertising Shawn Michaels for the February 13, 2012 Raw SuperShow at Valley View Casino in San Diego, California.

    It will mark as his first appearance on the program since the June 27, 2011 show.

  • Ryder On Fans Saying He Sold Out, FCW Star Works Live Event

    — Zack Ryder has drawn complaints from fans over his YouTube show Z! True Long Island Story being transferred to WWE’s auspices under their revamped YouTube channel. The WWE Superstar took to Twitter to respond to fans saying he “sold out.”

    “I’m confused…Doesn’t one need to receive money to “sell out”?” he wrote.

    — WWE developmental wrestler Kenneth Cameron lost to Santino Marella in a singles matches at Friday’s Raw live event in Topeka, Kansas. Cameron is 6’3″, 216 pounds and billed from Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England.

    — Spike TV will air The Marine 2 starring Ted DiBiase immediately following Impact Wrestling at 11:00 p.m.

    — New Dolph Ziggler T-Shirts are set for release soon.

  • Cut Wrestler Happy To Be Free From WWE, ESPN Profiles DiBiase

    — It was reported Friday that the official website of WWE developmental promotion Florida Championship Wrestling had removed Calvin Raines, Leroy Parks, Marcus Owens and Peter Orlov from their roster page. Owens, whose real name is Jay Nobles, confirmed on his Facebook account that he was released by WWE on Friday. He was pleased over the developmental.

    Nobles wrote Friday of his release from WWE’s grip, “Thank god! The Handcuffs are off!! Free at Last, Free at Last, Thank God All Mighty, I’m Free at Last!!!”

    — ESPN.com published an article on SmackDown talent Ted DiBiase concerning the “DiBiase Posse Party,” a Twitter-fueled get-together with tailgating fans outside WWE events.

    “Instead of sitting in line for an autograph and getting a handshake and that’s it, I sit around, I tell stories, and they ask questions,” said WWE Superstar. “It’s just like my sitting around with my buddies on the back porch cooking steaks.”
