  • WWE Talent Now Required To Buy Their Own Health Insurance

A major change was recently made to WWE’s talent contracts.

WWE is now requiring all of its signed talent to purchase and maintain medical insurance for themselves. WWE will not be covering the cost of the insurance, but as independent contractors, the workers would be able to write off the cost of the medical insurance as a business expense.

The news comes just weeks after the UFC announced that it will be paying for medical insurance for all of its contracted fighters, but it’s not directly related to that situation. WWE has been planning the corporate policy change for quite some time, prior to UFC’s announcement.

WWE requiring its superstars and divas to buy health insurance is something that we’ve heard was being discussed and it was confirmed earlier this week.

What do you think about think about WWE mandating its talent have health insurance? Is it a good move? Should WWE be paying for it ?

  • McCool Explains Why She Left WWE, Cites Animosity Backstage

Speaking to former WWE Divas Lilian Garcia and Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool took part in her first interview since leaving WWE Monday night on the AfterBuzz TV AfterShow for Tough Enough. The multi-time champion says her peers’ animosity towards her behind the scenes played a huge factor in her decision to part ways with the organization.

Below is a transcript of her appearance on the program, courtesy of MichelleMcCool.net.

Lilian Garcia: Why did you leave on top?

Michelle McCool: You know, it’s nothing that has culminated overnight. That’s for sure. I mean, I’m going on six years, and you know- I mean, Lilian, Torrie, you know- six years is really a long time for one of the girls. I do a lot, and I’m thankful for that. It’s a dog-eat-dog world and in a man’s world, too. It’s just a fight, every single week, this job. I was in it to win it. I did fight, stand my ground. Add to that, these past couple of years has definitely been the most fun I’ve had in my career. But again, it’s not something that has culminated overnight. It’s something that I’ve actually been thinking about for a while. Something that I even thought about doing earlier than Extreme Rules, but I wanted to go out in the right way, and I wanted to do what was right for Layla. We’ve worked together as a team these past few years, and she’s done so much for me, for each other, that I wanted to go out doing the right thing. Working a program with Layla, while short, it was fun. I also kind of wanted [my exit] to be unexpected to the fans, and actually to some of the Superstars. I wanted to give them something unexpected. I wanted them to expect the unexpected, and hopefully we did that.

Torrie Wilson: Do you feel like the more you went up the ladder, getting the belts and being on television and had all these great things happening, do you feel like you had to work harder to prove yourself to the women? Did you see a lot of clawing and backstabbing, or was it… helpful?

Michelle McCool: Oh, gosh. No. You know the answer to that question! (laughs) The higher you climb the ladder, everyone is going to have a reason as to why you’re there, why you’re on TV, and they don’t want to believe the fact you’re in the working hard, fighting for storylines. Instead of complaining about only have two or three minutes on TV, you want to make those two or three minutes mean something, so that you can go somewhere the next week, and the next month, and then the next three months. And that’s what Layla and I did. And, yeah. A lot of people just didn’t want to believe that; I just think that’s the easy route. I think that they did, in their hearts, know that. The backstabbing, the clawing, it’s always there. It definitely comes up more when you’re on TV a little more often. And I can laugh. A prime example, Layla and I. We pitched an idea when we were going back and forth between RAW and SmackDown. We did a pre-tape on RAW when we got kicked off: so, we show up at RAW and get kicked out of the building. Two weeks later, they call us up to be on RAW again. It’s like, dang! Of course, all of the girls are complaining. We’re just like, ‘hey, we tried to get kicked off the show. It’s not our fault. Sorry we’re here.’ But you know, it’s like. Somebody else step it up! And I know that sounds horrible, but that’s what it is.

Torrie Wilson: Do you feel like that contributed to you wanting to step away or not? Because it was getting to be… too much?

Michelle McCool: Yeah. Yeah. You know, that’s hard. Torrie, you know. You’re the same way. I think we have a lot in common, as far as our hearts go. It’s just hard when you’re not that kind of person. When you don’t want to be miserable, when you don’t want to have that drama and… the drama just follows you. All due to the situation or the position that you’re in. It wears on you, as much as you’d like to say ‘I don’t care what the girls think!’ or ‘I don’t care what they’re saying!’ – I just want to go out there and do my job! It got harder each and every single week, just because it hurt me as a person. The kind of person that I am. You don’t want to feel that way.

Torrie Wilson: For someone that personally saw you, and how hard you would work, even before you were on TV-and I traveled with you-just how hard you worked, how many storylines you came up with to me, and with me, to work with me! It’s just actually frustrating to think that people would think you’re not working hard.

Michelle McCool: Well, thank you for saying that. That means a lot.

Lilian Garcia: And let me tell you something. Not only did you work hard in the ring, but also on your outfits! That meant a lot to you. Talk about being creative: I saw you being creative in your moves, in your entrance, but also in your outfits. I remember [you] coming out with the most amazing gear, and just going, WOW! You’re going to get noticed just based on that – and your body! Holy cow, girl!

Michelle McCool: Oh, please! (laughs) I think the whole Flawless thing backfired in my face. I’m just like, ‘oh, man! We’re out here calling ourselves Flawless, and being the most obnoxious characters, that even I wanted to slap myself sometimes!’ Even I would get sick of watching myself on TV! But let me tell you about the first night. And I just thought that it would only happen on the first night that I left WWE. I had almost an entire large pizza-you know me and stuffed crust! I had me a whole cake with frosting, and the problem is, I’ve done it almost every night since! The whole ‘Flawless’ thing is kind of out the window! (laughs)

Lilian Garcia: Um, Michelle. I have some bad news for you. Since I’ve left WWE a year and a half ago… I can’t… stop… eating! I can’t stop cheating!

Lilian Garcia: Do you have anything that you regret that you didn’t get to do?

Michelle McCool: Well… you know what? Somebody asked me that question in passing, not long ago. It’s crazy. I’ve really done a lot. You know, when you’re out there, and all of the drama is going on every single week, and you’re fighting every single week, you know. It just gets harder. And then you forget. Which is horrible! But you forget about all of the wonderful things that you’ve done. I was the Women’s champ, the Divas Champ, the unified Champ, Layla and I were co-Champs. I was in the first [Diva’s] table match. You think of all of these things, and it’s like, wow. I like to think of myself as a humble person, and I hate talking about myself, but… that’s kind of a lot stuff, you know. That’s pretty cool. I can’t think of anything where I can look back and wish that there was something that I could have done. Even with all of these opportunities.

Torrie Wilson: Yeah, well… you could have won the Golden Thong Award!

Torrie Wilson: Well, at this point are you thinking that you’ll never, ever, ever, ever return back to WWE or what?

Michelle McCool: Well, that’s not my intention at all. Right now I’m just trying to breath for a little while. And, you know… enjoy life and see where it takes me. So hopefully, I can just take that attitude and let it carry me from today to the next day to the next day…

Lilian Garcia: Speaking of Tough Enough, you came through a similar competition. How do you feel about a show like that?

Michelle McCool: Well, you know. A lot of people don’t know, and it’s funny, that I actually filled out all of the paper work for the original Tough Enough and that I was going to apply. I still have all of the paperwork, but I just began my teaching career instead. Obviously, I love the show. And yes, I went through the Divas Search. And it’s funny, you know? Because everyone puts this ‘staple’ on you that you’re just a ‘Diva Search Reject,’ which there were several of us at the time, which is fine. But I often wonder that if I had gone through Though Enough and became a ‘Tough Enough Reject’ would so many people hate on me the way they do as a ‘Diva Search Reject.’ I’ve always wondered that. So that’s funny. And I actually do love the show. I’ve trained with Bill DeMott, down in Deep South. And even watching the drills tonight, I’ve been through them all. I know exactly what the contestants are going through. In the end, it’s a mental game, and they’re going through some tough times. Believe me. Again, I love the show, I love the concept.” … “Times have changed, you know? Times have definitely changed. Some of the girls backstage are just… yeah. From the time that I came in, back with Dawn Marie, and everybody else. Today? It’s just a whole different ball game these days.

Lilian Garcia: Do you stay in touch with anybody, after you’ve left?

Michelle McCool: Well, I stay in touch with Layla and Vickie. And, um… Nattie, every once in a while. She text me yesterday, actually. And Kelly. But…. sadly, that’s about it. Kelly, Layla, Vickie and Nattie on occasion. …Yeah.

Lilian Garcia: Well, I’m curious now. Since we all know that feeling, what’s next?

Michelle McCool: That’s kind of scary…

Lilian Garcia: It is, right? It’s scary, but exciting.

Torrie Wilson: And then it’s scary to think about going back! To the traveling, at least.

Michelle McCool: Well, I certainly don’t want to be near any airplanes or airports anytime soon, that’s for sure. But it is, it’s really scary. But it is also exciting! Like this week, for example. I spent the weekend with my parents. I can’t even tell you the last time I spent an entire weekend with my parents, or my godson, for that matter. I’m just enjoying life. But, I have also kept my teaching license active.

Lilian Garcia: So is that what you’re thinking? Or is there something else brewing in your head?

Michelle McCool: Nope. There’s nothing brewing. Though, I wouldn’t mind it, I think I would be a darn good Tough Enough trainer! Nobody has mentioned that to me, I swear to you, but I am throwing it out there. I think I’d have fun and I’d do a good job. It’s just that I’m such a big fan of the show, and I’ve worked under Bill. I know his personality, what his drills are like, I just… I don’t know. Why not throw another personality on that show? Sort of right up my alley.

  • Punk Talks About His WM27 Match With Orton, Being Cheered

Nexus leader CM Punk was recently interviewed by UK wrestling magazine Fighting Spirit. Here are some highlights of what Punk said about:

How Far He’s Come In Wrestling: “For me the thing I’m most proud of — aside from being three-time heavyweight champion and winning Money In The Bank — is the fact that I started wrestling in my backyard when I was 15, and now I’m here … I was CM Punk when I was rolling around with my friends in the backyard when I was 15, and now I’m CM Punk at WrestleMania XXVII fighting Randy Orton in front of 70,000 people.”

His WM27 Match Against Randy Orton: “I hate everything I do when I watch stuff back, so I don’t tend to generally watch my matches again, but I did watch that one and I liked it. Obviously there were a few things I wish I had done a little different, but it will hold-up over time. For me, the highest praise was having the so-called ‘old timers’ tell me that they liked it.

“Bret Hart went out his way to call me up and tell me how much he liked it. Randy’s Dad (Bob Orton Jnr) loved it, as did Bob Armstrong. So much of wrestling’s history said it was good, and that it was the match of the night.

Getting Cheered As A Heel: “On [WWE’s recent UK tour] I was getting cheered which made me want to pull my hair out. I think it’s mainly from the older audience and it’s something that I think eventually happens to everyone when a level of respect is built-up. It’s just up to me to get them to hate me again by pushing their buttons.”

Issue 68 of Fighting Spirit Magazine is out on Thursday May 19. For more details check out FightingSpiritMagazine.co.uk

  • JR Blog: The Rock Returning To TV, TNA Billboards Near WWE HQ

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog update, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com .. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

The Rock Back On WWE TV: “Yes…I can easily see the Rock back on WWE TV in some form and feel that matter is essential to promote his main event level match at WM28 in Miami vs John Cena. How Rock could NOT make reoccurring appearances on WWE TV and headline WMania is beyond me. However, I don’t see Rock wrestling on free TV before WM28 but that’s simply one man’s opinion.”

Drew McIntyre’s Potential: “What do I think of Drew McIntyre? Lots of potential, nice look, seems to be athletic but it needs to be established as to who the Scot is and what his immediate objectives are.”

TNA Billboards Near WWE Headquarters: “Yes…I heard about TNA putting up billboards in Stamford, Ct which is the world HQ of WWE. Thoughts? A complete waste of money unless obscure mentions such as this one is what TNA is looking for. Silly expenditure of money IMO. One would think that organization would have bigger and more important fish to fry. However, what TNA does isn’t any of my business or concern but the question was asked and has now been addressed. I would guess that many WWE, Stamford based employees learned of TNA for the first time via the local billboards.”

As always, we recommend you check out JR’s site for his amazing line of BBQ products .. His BBQ sauces, ketchups and mustard are out of this world and a staple of the refrigerator at SEScoops’ global headquarters.

  • J.R. Comments On TNA Targeting WWE, McIntyre’s WWE Status

Jim Ross has posted a new blog entry on his official website, www.jrsbarbq.com. Highlights are as follows:

Drew McIntyre: “What do I think of Drew McIntyre? Lots of potential, nice look, seems to be athletic but it needs to be established as to who the Scot is and what his immediate objectives are.”

Sin Cara vs. Daniel Bryan: “I did enjoy Sin Cara vs. Daniel Bryan’s match on Smackdown a great deal and the involvement of Chavo Guerrero into the Cara mix as well. Cara is developing nicely, was a predictable, HUGE hit in Mexico last weekend for WWE, but Cara needs to accelerate his learning to speak English so he can communicate with a large portion of the WWE audience.”

WWE utilizing Hall of Famers at live events: “Yes…I like the way WWE is using WWE HOF’ers to add to the live event experience ala The American Dream this weekend in Lake Charles, La and Dream’s hometown of Austin, Texas. These specific bookings provide many potential resources including meet and greet opportunities, advance PR/media work, a reconnection to previous generations of fans, and adds much needed star power to the live events. I’d pay good money just to hear Dusty cut an impassioned promo about any subject that he chose. Perhaps WWE should draw suggestions for a Dusty promo from a hat and watch him go to town…..if you will.”

TNA placing billboards near WWE HQ: “I heard about TNA putting up billboards in Stamford, Ct, which is the world HQ of WWE.

  • TNA Buying Billboard Ads Near WWE Headquarters

As part of TNA Wrestling’s new “Wrestling Matters Again” re-branding effort, the company has purchased a number of billboard ads in Stanford, Connecticut – home of WWE headquarters.

The ads, which are to promote TNA renaming its Spike TV show to “Impact Wrestling” – can be seen all over Stanford, including right down the road from WWE HQ. There are said to be 4 or 5 billboards spotted so far.

WWE employee Craig Tello had posted a picture of one of the billboards on Twitter, but it has since been takent down. He tweeted:

“Just saw a #TNA billboard in Stamford on the train to work @WWE. They re-booking the Invasion angle? #IWantWrestling…to stop recycling.”

We’ll post a picture of one of the ads here as soon as it is posted online again.

If you’re located in Stanford and can take a picture of one of the billboards, feel free to send in a picture to SEScoops@gmail.com.

  • Orton’s Next Feud, Rock At SummerSlam, Khali-Jinder

    – As previously reported, WWE is currently working on how to use The Rock on television in the coming months. While nothing is confirmed just yet, we can confirm that the creative team has a few ideas of what to do with The Rock at SummerSlam and Survivor Series in the fall.

    – After Randy Orton captured the World Heavyweight tile last week and ended Christian’s 5-day title reign, WWE is already looking forward to Orton’s next heel challenger. While an extended feud between Orton and Christian was discussed, right now it’s looking like Mark Henry will be the next title challenger. It should be said that Mark Henry as a top heel world title challenger is a scenario that’s been discussed many times in the past, but is not an indication that a title reign is in his future.

    – There are currently plans for The Great Khali and his manager Jinder Mahal to form a heel tag team together and feud with WWE tag champions Kane and the Big Show.

  • Austin Movie News, More Managers, Heenan In Bad Shape

    – WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin wrote on Twitter that he will be finishing filming “Recoil” in Canada this week. Austin said that it’s probably been the most fun he’s had shooting a movie so far.

    – Fellow Hall of Famer Bobby Heenan is reportedly having a very tough time lately with his health issues. Keep “The Brain” in your thoughts.

    – As we saw last week on Superstars, Tyson Kidd is now being managed by Michael Hayes. WWE has been considering the idea of reviving managers in recent months and there are said to be more WWE performers who will be getting managers soon. One other person who has been discussed as a possible manager is WWE producer/agent Arn Anderson. Anderson was considered for the role of Tyson Kidd’s manager, but still might be brought in to manage.

COMMENT BELOW: What do you guys think about WWE bringing back managers? Is managing a lost art that adds a lot to a wrestler’s character, or are they an unnecessary distraction that takes heat away from the wrestler?

Mr. Anderson, who won a 25-Man Battle Royal last Thursday on iMPACT! to become the No. 1 contender to the TNA World Heavyweight Championship, confronted Sting following the match. Sting will face Anderson next month at Slammiversary, which takes place June 12.

    — WWE.com editor Craig Tello posted a photo on Twitter of an iMPACT! Wrestling billboard located near WWE’s headquarters in Stamford, Connecticut. The image, however, has since been removed. He posted the following the tweet:

“Just saw a #TNA billboard in Stamford on the train to work @WWE. They re-booking the Invasion angle? #IWantWrestling…to stop recycling.”

  • Bret Hart Criticizes WWE, NXT Diva Works SmackDown Show

    — Bret Hart criticized WWE’s utilization of Drew McIntyre, who headlined last week’s episode of WWE Superstars against Chris Masters.

He wrote on Twitter, “I honestly can’t believe that the best way 2 utilize a talent like Drew McIntyre is 2 waste him on Superstars. Who’s genius is that? Idiot!”

    — NXT Season 3 contestant AJ is on the road with the SmackDown brand this week. She worked last night’s SmackDown live event in Lake Charles, Louisiana, teaming with Natalya in a match against Rosa Mendes and Alicia Fox. Natalya made Mendes submit to the sharpshooter.

The bout marked as Fox’s first in-ring appearance since suffering a shoulder injury at the May 3 SmackDown taping.

  • JR Blog: Chyna In TNA, Managers, WWE’s Mexican Tour

WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross is back with another blog, which you can read in its entirety at JRsBarBQ.com. Here are some highlights of what JR said about:

WWE’s Mexican Tour: “How did WWE do in Mexico City? HUGE…almost 20,000 people and a live gate hovering just under $1M. WWE will produce TVs in Mexico City this fall which has been on the drawing board from quite some time. W/ Rey Mysterio, Alberto Del Rio, and now Sin Cara in the fold, WWE has significantly strengthened its position in the Mexico marketplace as their TV ratings indicate. Strong TV clearances in Mexico has been vital to WWE’s growth there too.”

Managers Returning: “Will WWE begin to utilize managers again? Not sure what the story on that is but apparently Michael Hayes filled that role with Tyson Kidd on WWE Superstars this week which can be seen on http//www.wwe.com now. I assume ‘PS’ wore attire from his ‘Don Cornelius/Soul Train’ collection. If WWE does utilize ‘managers’ it will be new again and some key, manager additions can help younger talents in a variety of ways. I am a fan of managers. Arn Anderson would make a great mentor/manager IMO.”

Chyna In TNA: ” What are my thoughts on Chyna returning to TV? Happy for her. Why wouldn’t I be? She needs to earn a living too. Not sure where she is as it relates to her passion for the genre any longer but she is earning a pay day. For the record, I still don’t endorse women wrestling men plus I never said Chyna was undeserving of Hall of Fame consideration as some misinterpreted.”

  • Melina Posts Injury Update On John Morrison, Roddy Piper News

    — Melina posted a blog on her official website, RealMelina.com, updating fans on John Morrison after he underwent surgery to correct a pinched nerve in his neck.

“The first week after surgery is the most painful,” she wrote. “He hates not helping out and carrying his own weight. He stubbornly tries to do little things and I understand that I can’t baby him but I worry. I want to do everything for him so he can just rest.

“I have taken him on mini walks so he can get out of the house… he can’t stay out for very long because he starts to ache. I wish I could do more. During the day he has to sit, but he can’t sit for long because his neck starts to hurt… then he can’t stand for too long either because the same thing happens. His body gets tired because its hard for him to rest. At night he wakes up every few hours and gets out of bed because his neck is sore. For some reason he thinks I sleep through him bumping into stuff in the dark, on his way to the kitchen. He says coconut gelato is the only thing that makes his neck feel better at 5am. Bless his heart.”

She continued, “I hate to see him in pain. He won’t tell me a lot of the times but you can just see it. It breaks my heart because he’s my Honey, but he always tries to smile. I admire him for being so positive, being strong and making me laugh. I wouldn’t blame him if he just vegged and sulked a bit… but instead he keeps his chin up and Smiles… even if it hurts.”
